(book 6 spoilers. very heavy. like two of the big plot twists in this one)
I like book 6 for a lot of reasons but the biggest reason is the absolutely fucking inSANE three chapter run in it that is possibly the worst whiplash I've ever gotten from a book. I am of course talking about the Snake Eyes - Flesh And Blood - The Agatha Quartet run. So we've got
Snake Eyes - the (frankly. insane) reveal that Rafal is the TCY twin's dad. insane. unreal. Why would they do that. who's going to tell Sophie. Mad. Surely we need a Moment to recover from this very important revelatio-
Flesh And Blood - not even kidding it's all of the japeth lore. just like all of it. The first half of the chapter is literally just the events leading up to book 4 from his perspective. So surely the second half is some cool fight scene ri WRONG. ARIC. suddenly turns into (in my opinion) the most devastating chapter in book 6. we get some of the best Japeth Dialogue (tm) (oh??? you genuinely actually would've like given up the crown for him? Aric essentially tells him the best course of action is just to kill himself? right! okay!). it's not actually Aric and japeth like works it out or whatever but okay. okay. I'm prepared this time. Third devastating chapter. I can deal with-
The Agatha Quartet: haha guys they don't know which one's the real Agatha!!!! and Sophie's got to work it out!!!!!!! by asking them silly little questions!!!!!!!!!!!! this is a normal chapter progression!!!!!!!! This is so fun and silly!!!! im in literal tears
Absolute madness. This is why book 6 is second in my ranking

no one asked, but the reason all of my ocs are either healers or very knowledgeable about poisons and/or disease (or both!) is because it all relates to my special interest of All Time

Within some lore, the Rose was connected with the Devil. The Wild Rose, specifically Eglantine (Rosa Rubiginosa) and the Dog Rose (Rosa Canina) both have extremely sharp and large thorns […] The downward pointing thorns hook into the skin, digging deeper as one tries to escape from their grasp [...] From France [Eglantine] rosehips were called 'Devil's Bread' and sometimes the names 'Rose Sorciere' and 'Rose du diable' were used as well; a folk story tells that the Eglantine's thorns are pointed downward because after the Devil was excluded from heaven, he used the plant to make a ladder […] in order to climb back up. When the Eglantine would only grow as a bush rather than a tall vine, he placed the thorns in their hooked position out of Spite.

Hi 👋! I need some help for a bit of research I'm doing! If anyone knows of a book or links to herbal lore, myths, use in religion and history. Im combing the books I have for some of the information I have quite a few books on medical use. But I would enjoy getting recommendations from everyone I can. Thank you for all the help!

Just a disclaimer:
When I reblog lists of herbal uses, it’s for my own personal use, so I can cultivate a general understanding on what a herb does in different witches’ perspectives.
I do not support lists of herbs that just state the herb and a single word “use” I think it does no justice to the plant.
Everything in nature has virtues, sometimes those virtues can only be accessed by using the plant a certain way.
And sometimes the specific plant you are harvesting from will have a completely different set of uses than what it’s typically known for.
Unfortunately witchcraft is seldom easy to categorize and make accessible for the masses and posts that make lists like these should always be read with utmost discernment.

I went to harvest some nettle (with gloves of course!) on the edge of the woods.
After those dry months, we've been having a lot of run and everything is growing as if it were spring.
I haven't decided yet if I'm going to make soup or pesto.
Either way, nettle is a good source of calcium, vitamin C and D and iron. It's a good ally to treat arthritis, hight blood pressure, anemia, urinary tract infection and pms.
(I will add my sources on my intro post, later today. I always use the same books.)

Wormwood
Due to the last few years of natural disasters, social upheaval and medical distress, the importance of relationships is quite clear. Individuals who found themselves alone or disconnected have suffered deep trauma.
The animal and plant world has been a source of joy and healing for me. Certain plants have drawn me in, capturing my attention and changed me physically, mentally and spiritually. One such plant is Wormwood.
Sweat to the smell but bitter to the taste, Mother Wormwood has been generous. I have experienced her aromatic oils via teas, tinctures, fresh leaves and homemade absinthe. Wormwood-infused balms have even helped alleviate joint pain in my hands.
Wormwood has a complex spirit. Culpepper attributes her governance to Mars, and I can see why. The plant is well known for its aggressive anti-parasitic and liver-cleansing properties. However, the botanical genus and name (Artemisia Absinthium) feel rather apt. The dream and mind-altering effects experienced from ingesting the herb suit a Greek hunting and luna goddess. In the forest of Artemis, you could meet the Green Fairy.
Recently, a curious interaction with one of the Wormwood plants in my garden caught me off-guard. I had just pruned the Rosemary and Rue and was about to clip dried Wormwood stalks when a friendly but assertive thought thrust into my mind. "Save the cuttings; they protect", and a vision of a wreath of Wormwood flashed within my inner sight. Those who have communed with plant allies would know the feeling of this non-verbal communication. So I trimmed the plant and soaked the dried stalks overnight. The following day the stalks had softened and were wrapped and woven into a loop. After a few days of drying, stating my intentions and thanking Mother Wormwood, I bound the wreath in red dyed natural wool.
The wreath now lives in my office, hung above my work desk as a sentinel. As with all defensive wards, I hope that it's never activated. But if it does, let it strike true like the arrows of Artemis.

Can you use fresh nettles for the nettle infusion? Also how do you dry your nettles? Oven?? I want to dry nettles but I’ve been told it might be too humid to hang them up to dry them, but doing them in the oven feels like a waste of electricity. Oh and do you leave the stems of the nettles on?
Fresh nettle infusion is basically like a nettle broth, yes you can do it, but the quality might be different. We dry the nettle because that way all of the water evaporates and the oils inside get intensified, with that it's healing abilities as well. But you can definitely make some nettle infusion with fresh nettle and try it out and tell us what it's like! All the recommendations I've seen use dry nettle so I'm sticking to that.
Nettle dries incredibly easily, I leave it on a bedsheet for 2 days and it's already dry. You can hang it dry, leave it on top of some newspapers, I never tried oven but I guess if it's not too hot it works? I think the healthiest way is to get it air-dried. When drying herbs, you don't want them drying in a direct sunlight, because the sun deteriorates their quality and makes the colors fade and yellow; ideal is a nice shady place with well air circulation. But my bedroom also does just fine; nettles are already very low in water so they dry up quickly.
I've seen people in humid places dry herbs via putting them into big paper bags, and letting the paper draw out the moisture! I've never tried it but I've heard women vouch for it. I guess it would work the same if you put it in-between some newspaper sheets. Good luck!
And yeah, I leave the stems, stems are fine for infusions. Actually, there's not much stem in my nettles, when foraging I usually just take the tips, as they're the healthiest new growth, most likely to be uncontaminated by anything. And also because of the way nettle grows, if you just take the first 3 junctures with leaves, it's going to grow 2 new tips within a week! Meaning you get unlimited nettle.

Standing at the Feet of Giants
When healing is standing over us.
I’m told that trees are scientifically astounding in the sheer height they attain; that humans are unable to recreate them. That they are so tall and narrow is a feat of engineering akin to pure magic. But what do I know. I know that I can’t comprehend their capacity to stand that straight and that tall, stretching their limbs in the wind. Like mythological creatures that only worship the…
