Idea for a movie trilogy:
Similar to the “Cornetto Trilogy”, an anthology trilogy in which the main connecting feature is the cast and a joke that is split up between all three movies. What I mean is that:
1) the first movie starts a long joke, but the character gets cut off before they can finish it.
2) the second movie has a scene where a character is in the middle of telling a joke. Keen viewers will realize that the joke is picking up where the first movie left off. The character is cut off again.
3) the third movie does the same thing as the previous movie, but the character finally finishes the joke.
We can call this the “Finish The Punchline!” Trilogy.
A hypothetical outline of this trilogy could be:
1) “The Fist of San Diego”: Martial arts comedy film. A young girl (Jenna Ortega) who grew up in a hidden island of warriors is told by the island elder to find the reincarnation of the society’s founder before their enemies do. She ends up in San Diego, California, where she confuses a celebrity martial artist (Pedro Pascal) as the reincarnated founder. Shenanigans ensue as the real reincarnated founder (Steven Yeun) is actually an ordinary Starbucks barista who the young girl just missed.
2) “The Cursed Blade of Muramasa”: Period/historical action adventure movie. In the 1960s, an infamous grave robber (Steven Yeun) discovers a map that leads to the Cursed Blade of Muramasa. Since he can’t decipher the map’s puzzles, he hires an expert (Pedro Pascal), who brings along his daughter (Jenna Ortega). Shenanigans ensue as the father and daughter, who have never been in a dangerous adventure, have to tag along with the grave robber. Along the way, the trio deals with the Yakuza, who are also looking for the blade.
3) “Blood Heist”: A fusion of a heist film and a horror comedy. In a society where supernatural beings and humans coexist with each other, a vampire (Jenna Ortega) stages a heist on a blood bank that is said to have the highest quality of blood in the city. She recruits several vampires to help her. Among them is a hacker (Steven Yeun) who claims he is a vampire, but is actually a werewolf. Along the way, the robbers are being watched by the lead human detective (Pedro Pascal), who has a soft spot for the vampires.

(Archive) Animated movie of the day: Lupin III The Castle of Cagliostro (1979)
Originally posted: January 1st, 2022 Happy New Year everyone! This month(maybe February too) is gonna be about animated movies. And since this is the beginning of the year, let's start with a debut. Namely, Hayao Miyazaki's first feature film.
A simple but charming heist story with light elements of mystery, it's action packed and comical fun in spades. Lupin and the gang's antics are as entertaining as ever, and while rather thin(with endearing but simple characters in the damsel that is Clarisse and villain that is the Count), the plot is solid enough to justify the creative set pieces.
These are brought to life with stunning animation. Over 40 years later it still holds up in spite of the film production constraints given the animation was made in just 4 measly months. Yuji Ohno's classy score doesn't hurt either, enhancing some beautiful scenes to magical (Jazz ftw).
If there's an issue with the film(and it's not really about its standalone quality) is that it is pretty misleading for newcomers to the Lupin III series. It's almost flat out kid friendly save for some instances of violence that may be a bit too intense for children, Lupin's characterization is mostly heroic and the prime anime femme fatale that is Fujiko is completely devoid of sexual charge. In other words, a complete far cry from the rest of the series. Miyazaki planned for this, but it backfired in Japan initially. Appreciation for the film didn't come until later.
Overall though, it's still a great adventure film that inspired many other works, including the Castlevania series and maybe even Steven Spielberg when making Raiders of the Lost Ark. Such is its legacy.

Heat 2 by Michael Mann & Meg Gardiner
Just finished this & it’s like two stories in one. A great prequel to Heat (1995) following Neil & his crew as they are stalked by a new psycho killer, Wardell, with Hanna after Wardell. The other one is a computer tech/theft/espionage/whatever sequel to Heat that follows Chris. Wardell gets back into Chris’s radar, Chris goes after Hanna, etc. All the characters meet up in the end for one massive, confusing shoot out.
The prequel will make a great movie - even the final shoot out with Chris, Hanna & Wardell. The hitech stuff - not so much- at least not in the same movie. It was my least favorite part - mainly because Chris was not my favorite Heat character.
If the movie goes ahead, so far we have Adam Driver as young De Niro & maybe Austin Butler as young Kilmer. Would love to see it!
