"Seminario cited the recent report, “Employer-Reported Workplace Injuries and Illnesses,” that shows that the number of respiratory illnesses in the private health care and social assistance sector increased from 145,300 in 2021 to 199,700 cases in 2022, an increase of 37.5 percent.
...
As an industrial hygienist, Seminario was extremely critical that there were no experts in respiratory protection on the committee nor did it include engineers who developed ventilation guidelines. She believes that the HICPAC committee members are likely so opposed to respirators “because once you are into recommending respiratory protection, with that comes a full respiratory protection program from OSHA,” with penalties for violations.
An epidemiologist and consultant, Michael Olesen, echoed this, believing the changes reflect “pressure to remove liability from hospitals.” He added, “I take a very clear position that we should be having respiratory protection mandates in all healthcare settings right now.”
...
Many patients who spoke at the HICPAC meetings said they had gotten Covid-19 when they went to the hospital and that the new policies were keeping them from getting care.
Given that, Dr. Art Caplan, professor of medical ethics at New York University’s Grossman School of Medicine, previously told me that dropping masking requirements in hospitals is “utterly, completely, irresponsible.” Similarly, staff refusing to mask, even when a patient requests it, is a moral failure. “The first principle is, you must do what is in the best interest of your patient,” he said.
...
Several people were asked why they believe HICPAC is determined to water down protections. Consistently, respondents say, “to reduce liability.” Earlier in the pandemic, hospitals regularly tested patients and staff for Covid-19, and you could often tell where and how you became infected. Since staff are no longer masking and continue working when ill, and patients are not being tested on admission, you can no longer prove who infected you. Hospitals are the only ones who win in this scenario, absolving themselves of responsibility and liability."

Fucking amazing conversation with a person at my surgery center. Insurance just denied my (very necessary and totally covered) surgery for the second time on bullshit excuses.
I called the surgery, the woman I spoke to goes, "oh, it's this insurance, yeah we know about them. Don't worry, I'm going to deal with it, I'm pissed off at them too. I'll get back to you, but you don't need to do anything, I'll make them pay."
Which is both a badass statement to make and also I may have fallen in love with a 40 something year old woman named Erin for going toe to toe with my insurance company for me with righteous fury.

my doc approved me for antivirals to pick up soon and my symptoms today are better than yesterday, i am on the mend 😌 i am EXTREMELY lucky/blessed to have avoided this thing for three years and to be vaccinated/boosted and to have health coverage now so i can treat it proactively. it was very funny going over the list of risk factors with my doc today though, she was like "okay you're not 50 years old yet so you're not at the same high risk as some people.... let's see......." and then as we continued checking off more than three significant health markers, she was like, "okay yeah. girl i gotta prescribe you this shit. jesus"

it has come to my attention that i will be better off enrolling in a medicare advantage plan. i just can't afford medigap insurance. i checked and plugged in all my providers/hospitals--all are in-network and covered. plus, at least these plans come in a PPO or HMO--that i understand.
i'll text my broker dude tomorrow. he'll be happy to know i made a decision.
the medigap plan G insurance i wanted was through BCBS. but it would be $400/month. then i'd have to buy a plan D, which was looking to be $79/month and i'd still have to spend $4,000. whereas the MA plan would be $34/month, spending $2800 for meds.
at least now things make more sense.

I've come a long way in accepting my mental issues but sometimes I'm really like damn I really gotta be in this brain forever. There's no escaping. There's no magical end point. I have to be this bitch 24/7 until I die and my god, if that's not fucking terrifying sometimes.

I'm serious when I say the United States is actively hostile to children. Constant school shootings our leaders refuse to do anything about. Child Protective Services that overwhelmingly do nothing of the sort. No healthcare. Our education system is abysmal. Very few areas in the public that are safe for children to be in. Large swaths of states making gender affirming care for trans kids a felony. Child marriages are legal in a lot of states. Treating kids like property parents have every right to do whatever they want to, to the point where the U.S. is one of the very few countries that refused to ratify the U.N.'s Convention On The Rights Of The Child explicitly on the basis that treating children like people erodes the rights of American parents. And now states are enacting laws that overturn child labor laws like it's the goddamn Victorian Age. And even before those laws were made, it turns out that migrant children have been working in factories for a lot of companies, including the supposedly socially-minded Ben and Jerry's.
As complicated as adult life is, I would never want to be a kid again, with no say or agency in my life and completely helpless to the whims of the adults around me.

Logged into my health app to message a doctor and this is a screen I had to click through.\
This seems...wild. And it’s absolutely new. And I hate it. Thanks.

I fuckin hate how health services are connected to apps.
I’ve been procrastinating on finding a certain kind of specialist and didn’t realize that part of the reason for doing so had to do with not having an account for a certain app.
So every time I try to look up the specialist it’ll open up the app and not have the proper login info because it’s 9pm and I’m too lazy to find my health insurance card.
I’m just wondering: why the simple fuck can I not just find the specialist that is covered under my insurance without having all this bullshit in the way? There is literally no reason for this beyond the American Healthcare System being designed to be this fucking annoying.
If the American Healthcare System was a person I would’ve stabbed the fuck outta them rn.

im glad you've figured out the boob situationTM, but i must say that i was stopped in my fucking tracks when you mentioned both that you're 135 pounds and that youve had doctors say you need to loose weight. 135 pounds?!? if one ever needed a clearer example of how america's medical institutions are obsessed with weight over the actual health and vital signs of the patient, that'd be the perfect case, because what person weighing 135 pounds needs to LOSE WEIGHT? no one needs to loose weight as much as they just need to exercise for general health, but people at that weight especially don't need to. they fucking shouldn't.
what, are they working under the assumption that your muscles can't fuck you up further if you're just skin and bones instead? some goddamn doctors, man.
Mmm. It's unfortuantely not limited to the US healthcare system. I grew up in the UK, and I've got pretty strong memories of always being told to lose weight even when I was at my absolute lightest so I'd be at the "better" end of the BMI scale.
Because of this, back when I first moved to the US 10 years ago, I weighed about 120-ish lbs soaking wet, and the first doctor I saw looked at me over the top of her glasses, tsked, and told me that based on my BMI I should aim to be 5lbs lighter for optimal health and that "extra" 5lbs was why I had acid reflux.
(Spoiler alert: even when I rapidly dropped 30lbs last year due to a medical complication, I still had acid fucking reflux.)
I'm so, so thankful now that core providers of my healthcare team think BMI is bullshit because, holy fuck, it it bullshit.

Electrolytes and why they're important especially when water f4st!ng:
Electrolytes are electrically charged minerals, such as sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, chloride, bicarbonate, and phosphate. They are involved in various physiological processes.
During a water f4st, the body can lose electrolytes through various means, such as urine, sweat, and even through breathing.
Without sufficient intake of electrolytes, the body may experience imbalances that can lead to various health issues including:
muscle cramps, dizziness, weakness, irregular heartbeats, and in severe cases, even life-threatening conditions such as de4th.
Here's a breakdown of each electrolyte and its role in the body:
Sodium (Na+):
Role: Sodium is the primary extracellular cation (positively charged ion) and plays a vital role in maintaining fluid balance and blood pressure. It is essential for nerve impulse transmission and muscle function.
Source: Commonly found in table salt (sodium chloride) and many processed foods.
Potassium (K+):
Role: Potassium is the primary intracellular cation. It helps regulate fluid balance, nerve impulses, muscle contractions (including the heart), and maintains proper cellular function.
Source: Found in various fruits and vegetables, such as bananas, oranges, potatoes, and spinach.
Calcium (Ca2+):
Role: Calcium is essential for maintaining strong bones and teeth. It also plays a key role in muscle contractions, nerve transmission, blood clotting, and cell signaling.
Source: Dairy products, leafy greens, nuts, and fortified non-dairy milk.
Magnesium (Mg2+):
Role: Magnesium is involved in hundreds of enzymatic reactions in the body, including energy production, protein synthesis, muscle and nerve function, and maintaining healthy bones.
Source: Found in nuts, seeds, whole grains, leafy greens, and legumes.
Chloride (Cl-):
Role: Chloride is the major extracellular anion (negatively charged ion) and works closely with sodium to help maintain fluid balance and osmotic pressure in cells.
Source: Commonly found in table salt (sodium chloride) and many processed foods.
Bicarbonate (HCO3-):
Role: Bicarbonate is involved in regulating the body's acid-base balance (pH level) and is a crucial component of the bicarbonate buffering system.
Source: The body produces bicarbonate as part of normal metabolic processes.
Phosphate (HPO42-):
Role: Phosphate is essential for bone and teeth mineralization, energy production (adenosine triphosphate, ATP), and serves as a component of DNA and RNA.
Source: Found in various foods, including meat, dairy products, nuts, and whole grains.
To prevent these complications and support the body during a water f4st, it is crucial to supplement with electrolytes.
Many people who practice prolonged water f4st!ng or intermittent f4st!ng find it helpful to take electrolyte supplements or consume electrolyte-rich drinks to ensure they maintain proper mineral balance throughout the f4!sting period. However, it is essential to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any regimen or supplement routine, as individual needs may vary.

I understand now. I understand all of it.
All those times politicians claimed something was "too complicated" "not that simple" "we don't have the money" it's all lies to keep us complacent.
They did it about the situation is Israel. "It's too complicated" everyone said. It didn't look complicated when I did my own research, away from those shitty think pieces talking down to me. Israel was a state built off the blood of Palestinians, and they simply do not want you to think about it. Because there is oil in the middle east and Israel is our only "Ally"
Wow, so complicated! The complicated part being that our media is tricking us into thinking this is so complex so they can be evil in plain sight: yes, so complicated of a situation!!
And today I wake up to find that the House of Representatives (the lowest level of US government) has passed a bill offering 14 billion to Israel! It will go to the Senate to vote. Wow, billion with a B huh? I got a question for you.
Where the fuck did we get enough money to fund genocide? Where the hell was all this money when it comes to supporting the Americans you politicians claim to be representing? Where was this money for free college, universal Healthcare, covid precautions, the climate crisis??
"It's just too complicated! You'll make us do cuts on other programs! You'll make us raise taxes!! Think of the taxes!!!"
Then where did this money come from? Oh, the IRS, the fucking company that handles our taxes??? Yeah????? That was an option? Why wasn't it an option before but it is now? Were they over funded and we just didn't notice until now? Or are you taking advantage of the situation to cut funding to another service you hate?? The point being: if they really want something, they can find the fucking money. They haven't because they don't want to.
It's never been complicated. It's their job to move money around. It's their fucking job to raise our taxes and provide for us, but the only people they truly represent are the ones filling their pockets with lobby money. They could have done this long ago, given us what we've been demanding, but they coddled us and said it was too complicated and our baby brains couldn't handle it. And God forbid you be a woman!! That means you're double unable to understand!
Enough. Fucking enough. Every year congress votes to increase their wages and refuses to raise our minimum wage. Every year they take advantage of their medical insurance and benefits they get for "representing" us when nearly every adult I know is left to suffer with their conditions: untreated sicknesses, chronic conditions, the depression that looms over us because we live in the most wealthy country in the world but we can't make ends meet and our government is more concern with funding armies that feeding and housing us
Politics was never complicated. They just told us it was. To shut us up. To make us feel young and idealistic and stupid. And we fell for it. And now evil is moving through the wills of our leaders IN OUR FUCKING NAMES to support a genocide in the middle east. Their only crime was being born on that land. Their only crime is being Arab. That's not a fucking crime.
Our system isn't complicated. It's working as intended. Keep the people blind and claim that it's too hard, leave all the details to them. But we are smarter than they are. We are informed. The world is connected like never before and I refuse to let their propaganda ever reach me again.
Hold them accountable. Know their names. Write it in the history books. Let their legacy be known to the end of times.
Be loud about your anger. Go to protests. Write your reps to tell them your vote is on the line. And for God's sake vote in the damned elections!
THE IDEA THAT YOUR VOTE DOESN'T MATTER IS PROPOGANDA. THEY WANT YOU TO FEEL USELESS. THEY WANT YOU TO GIVE UP SO THEY STAY IN POWER.
They want you to think it's complicated. It never has been. Be loud. Vote. Use your right to protest. Use your right to free speech. Use your right to petition. Next Tuesday is election day. Make it fucking count.

"So long as Zionism is an operative ideology and colonial system, working class solidarity between Israelis and Palestinians is blocked off. The Israeli working class is fully committed to the project of Zionist colonialism, and reaps the benefits of this through land grabs, broad unionization, universal healthcare, and high wages. As is known by Palestinian revolutionaries and revolutionaries of the Third World, the only solution is total liberation from the river to the sea."
