Hi! I have a fluffy Aaron Hotchner request:
Aaron with a BAU reader who LOVES all things stereotypically “girly”, like always wearing cute skirts and pretty tops, being up to date on the latest fashion trends, and having the cutest stationary possible, the whole works. But something happens and she starts feeling insecure about being so girly in a very professional and male dominated field. Aaron saves the day by giving her lots of reassurance (and maybe even a kiss <3)
Tumblr media
Everyone was used to your bubbly personality, and colorful clothing. Some were confused on how you could remain so cheerful and nice, with your job. All you saw was grueling and horrible things everyday. But somehow you still remained a nice woman with an even more beautiful personality. That's what drew Aaron Hotchner to you. Everyone knew you and your fiancé were complete opposites but that's why you both were perfect for each other.
A case in Alaska had everyone's fuse short. The police officers who were supposed to be helping you with the case, were icing you and your team out. It was like the battle of the forces between you guys. The BAU team tried their hardest to not let the snobby comments, and run over interviews bother them but it was getting hard. You walked through the station, in your pink t-shirt, and light pink jeans carrying trays of coffee and donuts. You were trying to ease everyone's minds.
Your team graciously took your offer with small smiles and thank you’s. Walking through the precinct, setting the snacks down on the officers desk, some took your gesture nicely. As you went to sit one down in front of an officer, he looked up at you.
“You think filling us up with coffee and donuts is suddenly going to put us on the same side?” He spoke standing in front of you. The vein in his forehead was bulging to the point it looked painful. You were confused, you were just trying to do a nice gesture for everyone. “I just thought-“ you spoke gently in order not to cause an issue.
“You thought what, pinky?” He smeared. “You thought that coming here, dressed like a kid handing out treats like a easy going bitch, would make everyone all of a sudden get along.” He took a step close to you, making one of the other officers take a step closer to the situation in worry. “Hey, Mike, why don't you just lay off?” She spoke up. “No! How about Mrs. Pink Perfect over here take her smug team and get the hell out of my town!.” His outburst made you jump.
Your team snapped towards him from his outburst. Aaron could see from your body language that you were timid. “What's going on here?” Aarons stone cold voice interrupted. You peaked up at him, a look of sadness on your face. Looking between both, you and the cop, Aaron frown dropped more. “Watch how you talk to my agents, officer, we understand that we are in your jurisdiction but don’t forget that we were invited by your boss. The next time this happens you will be reported for insubordination.”
When the officer backed down Aaron looked at you as a sign to follow him before turning on his heel. You followed behind him quickly, setting the treats on a nearby table. Aaron waited for you to enter the room before shutting the door behind you.
“Are you alright honey?” His tough unit chief act dropped to the loving man you knew he was.
You sighed, looking down at your clothes. “Maybe I do look like a child,” you thought. “I'm fine Aaron.” You smiled, sadly making him frown at you. He knew when you were lying.
“Whatever, officer Jones said to you, just know it wasn't true.” He told you, ignoring your untrue statement.
You sighed knowing you couldn’t hide anything from him. “Do you?” You paused. “Do you think I'm childish?” You asked, sadly. Aaron looked at you confused, but waited for you to elaborate more. “Officer Mike said that I look like a child from my outfit choices.”
“Baby.” Aaron spoke softly. You looked up at him, with a saddened look. Aaron could feel his heart breaking at the sight. “I think that you are the most wonderful woman I've ever met. Your clothes bring out the brightness in everyone's world, especially with this job. Don't let someone ruin your style.`` He picked up your chin, and placed a small kiss on your lips.
When you smile into the kiss, he pulls away to see your small smile. “You alright?” When you nod your head. He pulls you towards the door. “If it makes you feel any better, his suit is too tight, he's cutting off the circulation around his throat.” He mumbled, making you giggle as you walked out the room and back to your job.

Michael and I had finally arrived home after a long day full of appearances. It was unlike anything I’d ever experienced before. The hysteria that follows Michael wherever he goes is unfathomable, yet he handles it with such grace. Usually, we keep a safe distance at public events, I appear more so as apart of his entourage than his partner, but it’s how we planned it. However, that was all in the past, now that I’m his fiancée we decided I’d be by his side. We were more than ready. As always he was extremely protective of me and made sure I felt safe. We announced our engagement only a few days prior. Michael and I were elated, the media on the other hand was relentless, I was labeled a gold digger, Michael was attacked and mocked— nothing too out of the norm, which pissed me off to no end, but he insisted I bite my tongue. He ensured me that he could handle it. It was tough to say the least. The noise surrounding us was so hateful— so loud and they were all rooting against us. It was infuriating. Unfortunately, as much as I tried to ignore the noise, it successfully added fuel to the flames of my own insecurities and I had no idea how to come clean to Michael, but it had to happen and soon.
“Baby?” I heard Michael’s voice, along with his footsteps nearing his— our bedroom— where I was currently hiding. “There you are! What’s wrong?”
“Hi. Nothing. Nothing” I answered quickly.
“You haven’t been yourself all day. I know these events can be draining. The crowds of people, the bright lights and the screaming. It’s a lot to get used to. If you don’t like them I promise I won’t force you to attend. I’ll understand. It won’t upset me.” The concerned look on his face made the knot in my stomach tighten. “Are you having doubts? Do you not want to get married?” My heart ached at the pain evident in his voice.
“No! Michael, of course not. I love you.”
“I love you more.”
“I’m sorry. I know I wasn’t the best date tonight.” I tried to ease my way into this conversation.
“Did I do something wrong?”
“No. It’s just last night—”
“I knew it. I’m sorry if I did too much. I was trying to be spontaneous you know? I completely understand if you want to wait until our wedding night. No matter what it’ll be perfect.”
“It’s not that I want to wait.”
“Talk to me.” He whispered with pleading eyes.
“I’m— I’ve never really— I don’t—” I began stuttering, unable to complete a sentence, my hands trembling as I tried desperately not to hyperventilate.
“Woah. Okay, breathe. Baby, it’s okay. Everything is okay.” Michael wrapped his arms around me, leaving a kiss on my forehead and began to sing to me softly.
Every night she walks right in my dreams
Since I met her from the start
I'm so proud I am the only one
Who is special in her heart
The girl is mine
“Keep going.” I smiled into his chest, loving the sound of his voice.
“Baby, if you wanted me to sing for you, all you had to do was ask.”
“You’re so annoying.” I playfully rolled my eyes, moving to sit on the bed.
“I’ll keep going if—” he paused dramatically, putting his hand in the air. “You tell me what’s on your mind. You can talk to me about anything.”
“I’m nervous about going further because—” I drifted off, feeling overwhelming embarrassment. “I’m a virgin.” I said barely above a whisper.
The only clue I was given that Michael heard my confession was how his grip on my hand loosened before pulling away all together. This was just what I was afraid of, he’s going to leave me.
“I should’ve told you sooner. I’m sorry Michael. I understand if—” I couldn’t bring myself to finish the sentence, so instead I slowly twisted the engagement ring off my finger, trying to fight the tears that threatened to fall as I reached my hand out to return the ring to Michael.
“No. No. I don’t want it back. No. Baby, it belongs right here.” He spoke softly, he sat down next to me as he slid the ring back onto my finger. “Thank you for telling me. I’m sorry if I pressured you. It wasn’t my intention.”
“I don’t feel pressured. I want to. I want to be with you. I just— I’m terrified of disappointing you.”
“You could never disappoint me.” Michael moved closer to me, pulling me into his chest. “I love you so much.”
Suddenly, I didn’t feel afraid, with the weight of my confession finally off my shoulders, I was able to feel something else. Love. Desire. Yearning. Craving. It was all I could feel and I couldn’t help myself— I couldn’t wait any longer. I looked up at him, his beautiful chocolate brown eyes staring back at me. I grasped at his collar with my fingers, pulling him into me, desperately needing him as close as possible. He kissed me back, his hands finding the small of my back, holding me tenderly. I moved into his lap, straddling him as our kiss intensified. I began to unbutton his shirt, before I heard Michael’s voice.
“Slow down.” He gently took my hands into his. “Baby, we don’t have to do this right now. I’ll wait as long as you need. You’re more than worth the wait.”
“All I need is you. Right now. I’m ready.”
“Are you positive?”
“Yes, just maybe talk me through it? Teach me a thing or two? I really want you to enjoy it.”
“Baby, I’m already enjoying it.” He smiled, gesturing to the erection poking into my inner thigh. “Just call me Professor Jackson.” He said, with a flirtation wink.
“You’re making me blush!” I giggled, burying my face in his neck. “I’m trying to be serious! Sexy even..”
“You’re always sexy. You don’t have to try.” He spoke lowly, picking me up, laying me back on the bed as he placed himself between my legs. “Oh, I can do serious.”
“Michael!” I yelped, feeling his warm hand slipping underneath my dress, moving up my thigh teasingly.
“Relax. Let me teach you.”
“Please. Teach me.” I begged, the anticipation building as his hand hovered between my legs, fiddling with the lace of my panties. Michael kneeled down in front of me, causing the air to get stuck in my lungs.
“Do you trust me?” He whispered, his breath tickling my thigh. I was desperate for more.
“Yes.”
“Yes what?” He asked, looking deep into my eyes, his long fingers slipped underneath the lace, his touch sending a shiver throughout my body.
“I trust you, Professor Jackson.”
“Oh, that sounds so much better coming out of your beautiful mouth.” He smirked, kissing me and quite literally taking my breath away. He ripped off the lace that covered my modesty, this side of Michael was quickly becoming my favorite.
I felt an overwhelming urge to scream as Michael began moving his fingers in a circular motion. My breathing becoming unsteady, struggling to process the pleasure I was feeling for the very first time.
“It’s all about touch.” He whispered. “It comes naturally once you stop overthinking.” His pace increasing as he spoke. “When two people are as connected as you and I— every kiss, every touch, everything feels— amplified.”
“Michael! Michael!” My body shaking, falling back into the mattress, suddenly I didn’t feel his fingers anymore. I felt something else— something even better. I slowly glanced down, seeing the top of Michael’s head, his face buried between my legs. The sight alone was enough to drive me crazy. I could feel his tongue, the way it curved, the way it moved, the way it sent shocks of electricity through me. My back arched, unintentionally thrusting my hips forward, locking my leg around the back of his neck. I began to curse profusely, feeling his hand slowly travel up under the fabric of my dress, the skin to skin contact made me shiver as he took a firm hold of my breast.
“Oh! My!” I felt a build up in my core, gripping the comforter tightly, attempting to ground myself, but there was no use. My thighs clenched around Michael’s head as a sound fell from my lips— one I didn’t know I was capable of.
“Just breathe.” I heard his voice, as his fingers slid the straps of my dress down my arms. He leaned down kissing and sucking down my neck. I squeezed my eyes shut. “I got you.”
“Please—” I pleaded between my gasps for air. I had no idea what I wanted. I just knew I didn’t want this to end. Not yet.
“I’m going to try something first.” Michael said before I felt his lips on my nipple. “How does that feel?”
“So good.”
“Open.” Michael murmured, gently tapping my knees. I did as I was told, watching as he removed his pants, taking a place in between my legs.
“Is it going to hurt?” I said quietly.
“I’d never hurt you.” He grabbed my arms, placing them above my head and intertwined our fingers. “I’ll go slow.”
As he looked into my eyes, the sensation of him entering me ignited a flutter in my chest, tears of pleasure puddled my eyes and I squeezed his hands so tight I began losing feeling in my fingers. Once he was fully buried inside of me he made gentle movements by rotating his hips in small circles. The tingle that raced through me was indescribable. I never knew that this feeling existed, but now that I do, I was sure that the reason was because subconsciously I was waiting for Michael.
“Michael!” I cried, ripping one hand free, tightly gripping his shoulder, digging my finger nails into his skin.
“Y/N, baby, you have to loosen up.” He said sweetly, unwrapping my legs that were locked around him. “Now, I can do this.” He started carefully moving in and out of me. As great as it felt I craved more. “How does that feel?”
“God. I love that.”
“I have an idea.” Michael said, moving away from me, I frowned, ready to protest until he laid on his back pulling me on top of him.
“What are you doing?” I panicked, at the extreme withdrawal and our new position.
“Teaching.” He smirked. “You’re going to learn how to ride me.” He said so seductively it gave me goosebumps.
“What if I hurt you?”
“You won’t. Just follow my instructions. All you have to do is—” He guided my hips with his hands, explaining what I had to do, but I couldn’t hear a thing. I was to focused on wanting him inside of me again. As he spoke I slowly spread my legs, coming closer to him until I felt his tip. The rush it gave me was so intense, my knees slid further across the silk comforter and I felt our full connection again. Michael’s eyes widen at my speed, he briefly glanced down, admiring how I took him whole. “Oh god!”
“Oh crap! Did I hurt you?” I panicked.
“No. No. It feels amazing. I just— wow. You’re a fast learner.”
“Well, I have a great teacher.” I slowly began to move my hips, watching Michael bite his bottom lip, his hands squeezing my thighs firmly.
“Baby. You’re gonna make me—”
“Make you what?” I questioned, slowing my pace, waiting for his answer. “Am I doing this wrong?” I felt my cheeks heat up from embarrassment as I stopped my movements all together.
“Don’t stop!” He moaned loudly. Holy shit. That was so hot. I began moving my hips like my life depended on it. Michael had beads of sweat on his forehead and his chest was glistening. “Baby, I’m gonna— I’m almost—”
“Michael!” I begged, Michael pulled me down onto his chest as I felt him twitch inside of me.
“You feel so perfect.” He purred in my ear as we lay still for a few seconds before Michael excitedly propped himself up on his elbows. He rolled us over, so he was now looking down at me. I laid against the mattress with a confused look on my face.
“We’re gonna be here all night.” He finally spoke as he touched my lips with his.
“Well, I do have more to learn. If you’re interested in teaching into after school hours.” I teased, wrapping my legs around his hips.
“Your wish is my command.” He declared, kissing me sweetly before he started up again, his quick pace taking me by surprise.
The wooden bed frame shrieked against the floor boards with each thrust. Our kiss becoming sloppy, needy even. Everything felt so intense. I couldn’t catch my breath, but I didn’t care. As long as Michael stayed on top of me, beneath me— inside me, I didn’t care about anything else. It’s just us.
“Amazing.” I breathed out, working up the courage to speak. “Can I— can I try to use my mouth?” I asked nervously, staring straight up at the ceiling. Michael slowed down, dragging his finger along my jawline, forcing me look into his eyes.
“Baby, you can do whatever you want to me.”

I think a large reason why Byler is so difficult for some people to comprehend is because they struggle to understand ‘show, don’t tell’:
Tumblr media
Yes, Mike and El have said that they love each other. But that does not align with what the audience has been shown: El has no interest in Mike’s interests. Mike feels as though he can’t be his true self around her. El isn’t comfortable confiding in him about her problems. Mike has only said he loves her under life-threatening circumstances. Mike is insanely insecure in the relationship and feels unworthy, and Will is the one who helped him to feel better about himself not El. El has never complimented or said one thing she loves about Mike. Mike idolised El for her powers and that feeds into El’s issues about being the monster vs the superhero. I could go on, but Bylers already get it.
Like…you’re telling me Mike wouldn’t rather be with the person who shares his love for DnD and other nerdy stuff, the person he can open up to and be comforted by with ease, the person who does need and want him and said he always will, the person who literally called him the heart, the person who loves him so much he would sacrifice his own feelings to see Mike happy…again, I could go on.
I love El, but what does her love for Mike even actually look like at this point? She has a box of letters and pictures from him. Okay, cute but ultimately surface-level. She turns to him for physical support e.g. forehead touch, leaning into him. May very well indicate love, but not being in love. Other than that? She lied to him consistently, including to his face. She left him behind to go with Owens, with nothing but a ‘from El’. She never responded to his long-awaited confession, never soothed his insecurities. I’m not sure how any of that constitutes ‘loving him the way he wants to be loved’. Sure Mike hasn’t explicitly expressed his desires in that regard, but we have watched this character on screen for years. We can use context clues to pick up on the kind of partner he would be best suited to, even if Mike himself may not be aware yet.

The fact that Will being brave in their DnD game inspired Mike to take a risk and search the woods for him is so special to me. Will said that Mike inspires and guides him (and the party) but the person that inspires Mike is Will. Mike has continued to be brave and fight because of Will.
I fully believe that everything Will said to Mike in the van is the same way Mike feels about Will. Will basing a lot of what he said on Mike’s apology just proves this. Feeling lost without each other? Mike said the same. Making each other feel better for being different? Will is the one who checks in on Mike and eases his insecurities. I could go on. They just fill in the blanks and understand each other so well.

The past few days have been nothing but terrible to you. You despise every mirror you see or anything that could show a glimpse of your reflection. The usual checking on how you look or using it for guidance when you’re doing your hair or makeup turned into loathing every single part of yourself. Everyone has insecurities it’s just that yours is taking over you and it’s messing up with how you see yourself. You try to snap out of it but it keeps coming back like a shadow, haunting you everywhere and today is just unbearable for you.
Your fellow students scream their lungs out as they cheer for the school’s basketball team entering the gym, you roll your eyes with how smug and arrogant they look, you hate how all of the jocks you met are nothing but douchebags who think so high of themselves.
You look over to your friends and see that they have the same expression as you - bored and unfazed. You only went for your friend, Lucas and if he gets to finally play, you’ll definitely pour your heart out to show your support. But for now, you’ll just sit and wait.
The cheerleaders then come gracefully running to the center, shaking their pompoms around, smiling and looking pretty. The cheers get louder as Chrissy, the captain walks to the front and start moving her hips side to side followed by the rest. You gulp and glance at your boyfriend Eddie, he was smiling at the cheer squad, mainly at Chrissy.
You take your hand away from his arm and put them in the pockets of your jacket, your self-consciousness making you uneasy.
You can’t help it, not with knowing that Eddie used to like her since middle school.
Or
Does he still like her?
𖤐
It’s almost the end of Eddie’s campaign and the room’s filled with groans, laughs, and screams of Hellfire. The games getting intense and everyone’s anticipating the number Mike’s dice will land on, his team relies on it, it’s their only chance.
“Shit! I almost got it!” Mike smacks his forehead, it was so close but guess it wasn’t their time to win tonight.
The campaign is officially over and the rest have already packed their things and head home, leaving you and Eddie behind.
Eddie watches you clean up the table, you’d normally talk about your day as you do so but right now, you were so quiet he could hear his own thoughts out loud. Something’s bothering you, you’ve been like this for a few days - you looked much more gloomy today and it’s worrying him so much. He knows how you usually open up to him if something’s in your mind so he decided to wait and give you some time, but he’s really concerned about you, he can’t take it anymore.
Maybe I should make the first move he thought.
He approaches and puts a hand on your shoulder, “sweetheart, are you okay?” He asks quietly.
You face him, “I’m o-okay” you lie, smiling softly, hoping that he won’t ask you again. You can’t tell him the truth, what were you supposed to say? Is Chrissy prettier? Do you still think about her?
Eddie sighs, he’s not buying it so he pulls you into a hug instead and rubs your back comfortingly. He starts to feel his shirt get wet, you were crying, the tears just suddenly escaped and you didn’t even notice.
His hold gets tight and he places a soft kiss on the top of your head, “Y/N?”
You pull away and face him, “are you happy to be with me?” You sniff. He tucks pieces of hair behind your ear, his arms still wrapped around you, “What are you talking about? I’m so happy to be with you” he replies.
Tears start streaming down your face again, “then why me? Why did you choose me over Chrissy? She’s really pretty, sexy, she’s everything a boy wants. You liked her for years, s-since middle school a-and the way you were smiling at her earlier at the gym, I-uh-“
You get cut off by your own sobs, you can’t even let out the rest of what you wanted to say. You cover your face with your hands as you cry even more, you don’t want Eddie to see how miserable you look.
He takes out a chair and sits you down, kneeling in front of you as he rests his hands on your thighs. Eddie’s eyes getting glossy as his heart breaks, he can’t believe that you’ve been enduring this for some time now. He takes your hands off your face, “you are the most gorgeous girl I’ve ever laid my eyes on. You’re also so amazing with everything you do. I adore the way you make me smile by merely just thinking about you and hearing your name”
He wipes your tears away, your eyes looking down on your hands, “You’re always on my mind, when I’m taking a shower, playing a gig, eating, even when I’m high!”
“Everybody may want Chrissy, but I want you, only you. I know I liked her but that was the past, my feelings for her are long gone. But for you? What I feel for you is different, I’m in love with you Y/N. So in love, you make me smile like a fool everytime I look at you. Just like a while ago, at the gym, I wasn’t smiling at Chrissy, I was smiling because you almost caught me staring at you and I didn’t know where else to look when you turned to face me. So I just looked straight ahead instead” he continues.
“I’m sorry” you say.
He cups your cheeks and move closer to you, “don’t be sorry, it’s okay to feel this way, I understand. I’ll always remind you how much you mean to me and how beautiful every part of you are”. You nod in response and try to get you composure back. “I love you” he cups your cheeks and kisses your forehead.
“I love you too”

Linger
Tumblr media
Fandom: Stranger Things
Pairing: Steve Harrington x Plus Size Reader
Writer: @writings-of-a-hufflepuff aka @hufflepuffing-all-day-long
Warnings: Spoilers for S.4
Prompt: I would definitely be interested in anything with Steve Harrington and a plus size reader!!! + hugs that last a little longer than they should
Normally i’d ask for a prompt go along with this request, but I had something in mind, so here you go.
Note: In this house what happened in S4. Vol. 2, that we do not speak of, that didn’t actually happen.
It's silly, but not at the same time, the way you're so utterly hyper aware of Steve Harrington and every little thing he does or says. It's that hyper awareness that makes you feel like you're going crazy sometimes, like you're imagining the things you notice. Like right now, how his hugs seem to linger. It’s a combination of insecurity and hope that makes you wonder if his hugs mean something more, if the linger is that of a good friendship or the chance that maybe, just maybe, your startlingly large crush is returned.
It's typical for you to hug Steve goodbye, you hug all your friends goodbye, always have done. You were known as the hugger, and the 'good hugger' at that, your physical softness apparently making you ripe for hugging. You're not necessarily surprised by that, you're bigger, you're softer, where Nancy and Robin are lean lines, more angular than you, you are round curves and a soft stomach and that naturally changes the way you hug, how it feels to hug you, the same way hugging Steve differs from hugging Nancy or how hugging Robin feels different to hugging Hopper.
The thing about hugs with Steve is that they never used to linger. At the start they were quick, his hands always detached from you as he patted your back in an awkward sort of manner before pulling away. They were so quick that sometimes it felt like they might as well not happen at all, a wave or a handshake felt longer than those first few hugs...and then it changed. Slowly, over time, each moment lasting just a little bit longer.
You held on a little longer, Steve's arms would tighter around you just a little bit more, hands holding you against him rather than awkwardly patting your back. Then it developed from there even more, an almost ridiculous reluctance to pull away forming, even as you did so, his hands would linger on the thickness of your waist or the width of your hips, yours trailing down his arms, as if two magnets struggling to pull apart. Then his lips would find the crown of your head, your temple, your forehead, your cheek, one last effort to make the moment last longer, eyes intense and smiling, the inevitable sound of Dustin or Mike gagging at the gesture, enough to make you believe that maybe you weren’t imagining it, that this was truly happening. That it was something a bit more than friendship that pushed Steve to linger, encouraged you to stay bound in his arms.
It doesn’t help that you’ve had a rough few days; Eddie being hunted down for murder, Vecna, Max being hunted by Vecna, Chriss dying, Jason being a supreme cult leader, Eddie nearly dying, Max in hospital, no idea if she’ll even wake up, Hawkins splitting in two...fuck, it’s been so utterly rough, so horrendously difficult that saying goodbye to Steve feels so extremely difficult, like if you leave him, if you blink, he’ll be gone too. Like you’ll never see him again.
It’s why you push your cheek further into his chest, warmth and the steady beating rhythm of his heart beneath your ear as your arms wrap as tight as they can around his waist. It feels like Steve understands, he doesn’t say a word, but his arms wrap around you tight, squeezing pressure that helps the almost insurmountable feeling in your chest to ease, one of his hands cupping the back of your neck, fingers digging into a tight spot there. His chin lands on the top of your head, a weight, familiar and welcome as you close your eyes and just breathe him in. Like this, it’s easy to feel like you’re surrounded by Steve, like you’re the only two people in the world as the hug doesn’t just linger, but prolongs itself.
You don’t want to let go. Don’t want to leave. Don’t want to go back to your empty house, your parents away on holiday, leaving you alone. Now an adult, now seen as responsible enough to care for the house while they enjoy the freedom of their child being an adult, finally. But, the world might be ending and you’re so fucking tired but so very scared at the same time.
It’s almost like he knows what you’re thinking as he presses a kiss to your hair and mumbles out just loud enough for you to hear it, “Sleepover at mine?” It’s not something you’ve really done before, not normal for you and Steve to sleep round the other’s house, but the world is going to shit and maybe next year won’t even exist, maybe next week won’t, or tomorrow, and you really don’t want to leave Steve so you just nod under the weight of his chin and let him lead you to his car.
Even that sees a reluctance to separate, an arm wrapped around your shoulders and neck, side pressed fully against your own, so close that you bump each other as you walk and find yourselves veering off course with each step.
And maybe...maybe it’s not that the world is ending and you’re good friends, maybe, maybe it’s that you and Steve have been toeing the line between friendship and lovers for a while now, and the reality is that maybe you won’t get even a year together. Maybe the world is ending and maybe whatever hesistancy that always caused you to pull away is gone, replaced with a new found reality that lingering, being as close as you can for as long as you can is worth it because who knows what’s going to happen. Why fear rejection and humilation? Why fear the potential for unrequited love when everything might not even exist tomorrow?
All you know is wherever hell is, you’ll be in the thick of it, with Steve. Wherever he is, you’re not going to be far behind.

I love Eddie’s introductory scene because like. After we see him in the subsequent scenes and episodes, it just takes on a whole new reading?
Like he actually believes what he’s preaching about society and conforming… but he’s so overdramatic and giving off these vibes.
You initially think that this will be a friendlier, non racist/abusive Billy Hargrove. He’s COOL and a TOUGH BAD BOY and listens to METAL and he doesn’t give a FUCK what people think about him. He deals DRUGS.
But nah, as we get to learn more about him, him… he’s not a nerd because he plays D&D, but he is in fact a nerd. He’s familiar with Tolkien.
He’s not actually tough, he’s a big softie who looks after the nerdy freshmen and gave them a safe space where they feel they belong. Because he knows what it’s like to be an outcast, to be that scared kid.
Who tells Chrissy they can back out of a deal, and makes every effort to put her at ease - even if it means making a goober of himself in front of this girl he’s clearly into. He offers a discount for flattery, which… she didn’t do. All she did was laugh at his jokes.
He’s not tough, it’s taking him all that he’s going through to find his courage. He’s basically shaming himself into being brave. Rather, being scared, but doing the right thing anyway. He’s a guy who usually runs away rather. Much like ConstantIne from Hellblazer, in that sense where He seems like this cool badass who isn’t to be fucked with, but he’ll run away at the first sign of trouble or try and find some way to outwit his way out of it. It’s all more peacocking. A curated persona.
It’s the Eddie he presents to people, because he wants to control his own narrative rather than have someone else put him in a little box.
And I just wish Chrissy had lived (for many reasons), but so they could talk about that? That it’s something they both have in common.
They both put on personas, present themselves as one way which isn’t fake so much as it is the person they’d like to be.
Eddie wants to be that cool tough guy that Dustin and Mike look up to. Chrissy would probably would have given anything to be the happy go lucky cheerleader people thought she was.
They’re just so good at masking their insecurities, and the masks only ever came down around each other.
Which is just another in the list of long reasons why it’s not faaaaaaair.

yeah...thinking again about how we really dont see a single time mike actually opening up to el about his insecurities, or even el opening up to mike about her inner turmoils (atleast not onscreen or one that didnt turn into a massive fight). we dont see a single serious and consistent heart-to-heart conversation between them that couldve actually solved their issues faster. whether m*levens want to admit it or not, it’s evident in the show that mike hasn’t been feeling comfortable enough to be vulnerable with his feelings around his own girlfriend and he always stumbles around his words and struggles to express himself to her, which is odd if we’re supposed to believe they truly understand and connect with each other. i can’t imagine being that bad at communicating with my significant other who i’m supposed to be close with and feel like i can confide in the most.
but you know who mike does feel the most comfortable with when it comes to expressing himself and being openly vulnerable with? will. all will has to do is to sit beside him reassuringly, and mike has no problem baring his heart and soul to him. it was will who knew the exact words to say to ease his feelings of guilt and worry. it was will who actively reassured him about his insecurities and made him feel loved with his words and with a painting crafted with care and affection, something that had mike catching his breath, smiling widely and looking the happiest he’s ever been all season. never once do we see mike being reassured like this directly by his actual girlfriend. it was will. all will. quite literally the only person who he’s able to be this authentic with too, since he’s 10x more repressive around everyone else.
and people can argue that yeah, mike and el never had the opportunity to sit down and have a serious conversation with each other since they were separated all season and el was off on her own self discovery arc, but that should make you wonder, why did the writers never LET them? they made the active decision of purposefully making mike spend the entire season glued next to will and el far away from him. remember, these are fictional characters, not real people, so you can’t just reason out that “oh el would’ve definitely been the one to reassure mike about his insecurities even without will in the picture she was just preoccupied with the nina project blah blah” because they were purposefully WRITTEN in a way that this never happened, not once. they couldn’t even insert a short conversation between them after el lost against vecna? after mike finally said ily to her, the one thing she has been pleading to hear from him for so long after he denied her a single utterance of the L word? they have one conversation that happens off screen and its not even about their actual relationship, just with the whole deal about brenner and el’s powers (we did get another heart to heart with mike and will though...wonder why 🤨).
at the very least m*levens have to acknowledge the fact that the second love interest had to get involved just to keep their failing relationship from falling apart, and that everytime they have relationship problems that need to be resolved, they’ve never been able to do it by themselves alone, there’s always somebody else in the background prompting one person in the relationship (mostly mike) to talk or make a move. they’re quite literally the only couple written this way too, other couples in the show (but specifically s4 lumax) have had conflicts with each other but they’re able to do it by themselves with proper communication and actually opening up to each other in a serious heart-to-heart conversation. imagine if mike just continued wallowing in his insecurities and never talked to will about his fear of being unneeded by el? imagine if will wasn’t there for him to open up to and nobody was there to convince him that el “still needed him”, since he was already about to resign himself to the fact that actually, el didn’t need him anymore? then nothing would’ve happened. no ily monologue, no nothing.
when a character is strategically separated from his significant other, who he keeps showing a fake side of himself to (“i need to be more normal i cant be my real nerd loser self around her!”) and who he’s been having a major conflict with, and then spends the entire season pouring his heart and soul out to the second love interest, actively seeking comfort and confiding in him the most, and the second love interest simultaneously being able to offer him the exact words of comfort that he wants and needs, they’re building something up between them and trying to show you how compatible and good they are for each other. the sooner people (m*levens) are able to understand this glaringly obvious love triangle pattern, the sooner they’ll be able to accept that maybe mike and will were always meant to end up together 🤷‍♀️

You ever think about how both El and Mike in S4 (or maybe throughout all seasons) are both dealing with self-insecurities? Their issues are incomparable of course, but there are a few similarities.
Both of them are scared and are struggling to be themselves.
With El, she was worried that she was a monster. With or without her powers, she felt that way. She especially had a difficult time when she lost it because at least she could save people and be a superhero to everyone when she did. She felt like she had to do something, to prove something, just so she could be worthy. She depended her self worth on what the important figures of her life think of her. She was insecure and hesitant with herself, it's clear in the way she's influenced by other people and how she lied about her real situation in Lenora. She is struggling.
With Mike, he was worried that he was just this "random nerd" who didn't have any good traits to be proud of. He was scared that El (or anyone) might not need him at all. He's scared of losing people time and time again, and him not being able to do anything to protect and save them. He always tried hard to be a different person than who he truly was, tried hard to impress someone, and depended his self worth on the opinion of important figures of his life. He's also struggling.
Both of their arcs have been intertwined since the beginning, and we could see these two characters trying to find that validation with each other the most— in their relationship. And time and time again, we'd see them not get that— and it was mostly evident in S4.
El thought Mike saw her as a monster that needs to be feared. Mike thought El saw him as just a random nerd who isn't needed. They make each other insecure about themselves. They didn't get the reassurance that they need with each other: they're loved just the way they are.
They're similar in those little ways and yet there's also a clear difference— while El was trying to find her self identity, Mike was trying to repress his.
And their individual arcs seem to be resolved by different people, or rather, a different person.
For El— we've seen her grow throughout the seasons with the help of many people. The party (yes, that still includes Mike. Pre-relationship, they had great dynamics aka platonic Elmike). Hopper. Kali and the group. Her mother and aunt. The Byers. And her memories getting back in the lab had helped her stand up for herself and realize her worth. But in the end, one person had really helped her see that it's okay for her to be just the way she is: Max.
"Not Hopper, not Mike. You." This specific line from Max had made such an impact on El and this was focused on by the end of Vol 2. Max had befriended her without conditions, and hung out with her and respected her choices. I think that's what El appreciated with Max the most: she gave her freedom and choice because that's the normal thing to do. Max made her feel normal. She's the first person that didn't try to tell her what to do, nor to hide her and be overprotective of her. She can do anything she wants, she can be anyone she wants to be: and Max supports her. In a few days, El has learned so many things about herself and she finds that she loves it and it's all thanks to Max's help.
And like El, Mike also has a few people who have helped him be comfortable in his own skin but one person essentially sticks out and helps resolve his arc in S4: Will. "Without you, the heart, we'd all fall apart." In one painting, in one speech, Will had easily eased Mike's worries about his insecurities. And although Will was veiling his confession with El's name, it doesn't change the fact it's his words. It's his feelings. And what I love most about his speech is that he doesn't only focus on El (himself), he also tells Mike that the party needs him as a whole: essentially saying everyone loves him for just the way he is. He didn't need to prove anything to anyone. He's always loved and needed without conditions. Will always intended to give the painting to Mike as a gift, to make him feel loved and appreciated— not as a confession for his love. Will's love for him is so selfless, beautiful, and pure.
El and Mike's arcs have been intertwined with each other, have been dealing with a few similar insecurities, and yet — it's not with each other that they find their needed reassurance. They don't grow as better people in their relationship. No, instead, they learn that with other people.
For El, it's with Max. And for Mike, it's with Will. And I think that already says a lot with which relationships S5 would focus on and which relationships would make more sense for the story's conclusion.

PS sorry I ranted it's just I have a lot in my mind rn <3
no no don’t apologize for the rant. also nice to meet you jeenni, i’m celeste :) and i’m more than happy to write this for you. i’m sorry (or glad, depends on how u feel) abt ur breakup btw :( i tried to make this a little bit longer for you. feel free to send me any request you have and i’ll be sure to get it done just for you <333
snippets of your relationship with mike
before he could call you his, before he even confessed, you knew how he felt.
you could feel his gaze, the emotions he attempted to communicate with just a look. most of the time, you pretended they didn’t exist, convincing yourself that they were just a figment of an overactive, hopeless romantic, imagination. but sometimes, just every so often, you would look at him, and he would look at you, and there would be something there. you weren’t a poet, your mind could barely conjure up a coherent sentence most of the time, but you knew that the way he looked at you was something so many people wrote about, painted about, yearned for.
something you’ve yearned for.
confessions are made over gas station slushees and sitting on the sidewalk. everyone else had already gone home, lucas and max riding together, and will and el riding with jonathan. your car was in the shop, so mike offered to give you a ride instead. you two did live close to each other.
you were getting ready to leave the diner, when mike half heartedly commented that he wanted a slushee. so that led you here, cherry and blue raspberry slushees in hand, mouths cold and tinted with food coloring. you’d stopped speaking for a while now, just sitting and watching the stillness of the night.
then he called your name, and you hummed, glancing over at him when he didn’t continue. “what’s going on, mikey?” you’d asked him. the nickname had become common for you to say recently, usually spoken when it was just you two as you feared the others would make fun of you or him.
he was looking head on, but after a deep breath he turned to face you.
“if i tell you something, promise you won’t hate me.” so you did, telling him that you could never hate him.
and when he spoke his mind, words almost whispered under shrouds of fear, anxiety and insecurities, you knew that you could never hate mike. never in a million years.
there’s concerns and suggestions shared between you on if you should tell the others. you both agree to ease them into the concept, but then mike kisses you when he’s saying goodbye and the secret is out.
he can’t really help it, not that he particularly tried. mike just can’t keep his hands off of you.
everyone surrounding you assumed that the “honeymoon phase” would die off within a few weeks, but it went on for months, and never really ended. kisses when you thought no one was looking, holding hands under tables and behind backs, knowing glances that yielded giggles. what was annoying to others, was endearing to the both of you.
you’d never felt loved, appreciated, and cared for like you do with mike. if you’re so much as saying a few less words than usual, mike is rubbing his thumb along the back of your hand and kissing your temples. he’s always there to listen to your rant about any and everything, immediately taking your side even if you’re most definitely in the wrong. he watches all your chick flicks, and nightmare inducing horror movies, with you.
and the entire time, you’re waiting for the other pen to drop. waiting for the inevitable to occur. you’ve braced yourself, mentally lowered your expectations, and waited. and when it does come, it’s minuscule, and nagging at the back of your brain.
mike couldn’t say The Big Three.
you’ve said it, slipped up a few times before you intended to say it. and despite what you tell yourself, you wished he would say it too. who doesn’t?
but either way, you knew that mike loved you, because his entire being showed it.
sorry for the abrupt ending i didn’t wanna leave this sitting in my drafts :(

You hummed along to the radio playing faintly in the background. Your eyes scanned the crowd, searching for your little brother and his friends. You couldn't even remember the number of times you told him not to mess around after class so you weren’t waiting in the heat, but every day, without fail, you left long after the final bell rang.
Today was one of those days. Most cars had left the lot and you were stuck there, leaning against the door with only your music to signify how much time had passed. The first side of your cassette had played through and you were halfway through the second. You were gonna rip him a new one.
Finally, after what seemed like forever, you could see your little brother rushing out of the front doors with his best friends in tow. You crossed your arms and glared at him, making sure he knew you were pissed. He grimaced once he was close enough.
“Sorry sorry sorry! I know we’re late but it was an emergency!” He pleaded his case. You rolled your eyes and opened the door, getting in and swapping out the cassette so you didn’t have to do it while you were driving.
“Get in before I leave all of you to take the bus home.” You said. The three teenage boys scrambled to get in the car, Dustin taking shotgun while Mike and Lucas got in the back. Once everyone was buckled in, you started the engine and pulled out of the school's parking lot.
“So please enlighten me on what was so important that you had me waiting out here for…” You paused to check your watch. “47 minutes.”
“We were talking with Eddie about the hellfire club,” Dustin replied. You raised your eyebrows.
“I thought hellfire was on Fridays.” You said. Dustin sighed and dropped his head against the headrest.
“Yeah well, there might not be any hellfire if Eddie doesn’t bring up his English grade. The stupid principal is threatening to shut down the whole club if he doesn’t get his act together.” Dustin said. You could hear how upset he was by the influx of his words. You frowned, knowing how much this club meant to him.
“(Y/n), aren’t you in English honors?” Mike asked. Your eyes flicked up to the rearview mirror so you could see his face.
“Yes?” You questioned. Dustin looked over his shoulder at Mike and then back at you.
“And you tutor on the side for money!” He exclaimed. You sighed, seeing exactly where he was going with this.
“I tutor freshmen on the side for money so they're better prepared for their classes, not seniors who flunked two years in a row.” You replied. Lucas laughed.
“He’s got you there Dustin.”
“I don’t know why you’re laughing Lucas. We’re all screwed if Eddie isn’t at a D by the end of the month.” He said, whipping his head to glare at his friend, but he quickly turned back to you.
“(Y/n), please. I’ll do anything. Consider all your chores for the next month done, alright?” He pleaded. You raised your eyebrows and glanced at him from the side of your eyes.
“Seriously? It’s that important that I tutor this guy?” You ask. Dustin nodded feverishly.
“Yes.” He deadpanned. You sighed.
“Alright. I’ll fit him into my schedule. But you better hold up your end of the deal.” You said as you flicked his hat downward. He smiled.
“I will, I promise. And thank you.”
>><<
You sighed and checked your watch, wondering how long you’d have to wait out here for the door to be opened. You lift your fist, knuckles centimeters away, ready to knock for the fourth time when it swings open. You backed up, slightly startled from how quickly it happened.
“Your Henderson’s brother, right?” A man with long hair asked. Eddie Munson. You’d seen him around school but never opted to talk to him.
“In the flesh.” You replied. He stepped out of the frame so you could walk in, to which you hesitantly did so.
“We can sit here. Thought it’d be less awkward than sitting on my bed.” He said with a laugh. You nodded and did as he told you, opening your backpack and gathering all the materials you needed. He pulled the second chair out and leaned his elbow on the table, watching your every move. You glanced up at him tentatively.
“Um… Dustin tells me your failing-“
“Horribly. Crashing and burning in fact. Which is where you come in Henderson-“
“(Y/n). My name is (Y/n).” You reply. He smiles.
“(Y/n) Henderson. Pleasure. As I was saying, I’m in dire need of assistance. In fact, the hellfire club depends on it.”
“Way to put the pressure on.” You said sarcastically as you stretched out your arms and rolled your head. You groaned and gently massaged your neck, looking down at the sheets of paper spread out on the table. You sighed and shuffled through them, finding it hard to concentrate with the horrid knot in your muscles.
“Something wrong?” Eddie asked. You looked up at him and gave a halfhearted laugh.
“Yeah sorry. It’s… It’s nothing.” You reply, waving him off. You doubted he wanted to listen to you talk about your problems.
“No no please, enlighten me. I mean, we’re going to be spending a lot of time together so we might as well share our deepest darkest secrets.” He said as he leaned his chin on the palm of his hand. You couldn’t help but chuckle at the way he spoke. It was odd but… charming.
“Well, it’s certainly no deep dark secret. I’ve just been really tense lately. Dustin and his friends all rely on me for rides everywhere. And I mean everywhere. I drop them all off at their houses after school, I take them to the arcade, I drive them all to each other’s houses. I’m basically a professional chauffeur getting paid in annoyance by my brother. Don’t get me wrong, I love Dustin but I spend way too much time with him. Hell, I’ve never even picked up the DnD handbook and I probably know enough to DM a campaign on my own.” Once you started talking everything just seemed to pour out. You had no idea how badly you needed to get this off your chest.
“And how does that make you feel?” He said, staring at you intently, which only made you laugh harder.
“Oh come on. I pour my heart out to you and you say that. What a dick.” You reply. He smiles.
“You’re right, I do apologize my lord. However could a mere court jester such as myself make it up to the likes of you?” He asked. You snickered, but soon after felt another twinge of pain shoot down your neck and across your shoulders. You groaned again, pressing your fingers into the places it felt the tightest.
“You wouldn’t happen to be a masseuse as well as a jester, would you?” You asked, running with whatever bit he had going. He shrugged.
“I dabble.” He replied. You raised your eyebrows and looked up at him.
“You’re serious?”
“These fingers aren’t just good for playing guitar you know. Let me give it a shot.” He said, wiggling his fingers at you. You scoffed and rolled your eyes, leaning back in your chair.
“I-I mean if you want to give it a go, by all means.” You replied. You couldn’t help but ask yourself how you managed to get here.
He seemed to gladly take the invitation, standing up from his chair and walking behind you. He placed his hands on your shoulders, gently pushing his palms into your tensed muscles. He repeated the motions several times before moving on to your neck. His fingertips were calloused from what you could only assume was years of playing guitar, but still shocking gentle. And even more shockingly, they were relaxing you. He was working through all the knots with such care that you felt like you were melting into his hands.
He continued to massage you for a few more minutes, alternating between your shoulders and your neck until all your pain was gone. You hadn’t felt this relaxed in… God you couldn’t even remember. He finished with a gentle pat on your back, taking his seat across from you once again.
“Better?” He asked. You chuckled before sitting up straight.
“Um… Yeah actually. A-A lot better. I wasn’t expecting that.” You replied with a laugh. He places his hand over his heart, feigning offense.
“Such little faith in me.” He said with a smile. You shook your head.
“We’ve already burned through a quarter of our time together and I haven’t even started explaining anything. You’re a bad influence, Eddie Munson.” You said.
“In the flesh.”
>><<
You had been tutoring Eddie every weekday for the past two weeks, and his performance in class seemed to improve drastically. He asked to keep having sessions with you despite this, wanting to prepare as much as he could for the test that would be a significant chunk of his grade. You agreed, on the condition that he would continue giving you those massages.
And yes, you knew how weird it seemed, but you had been in such a better mood ever since Eddie started getting rid of your pain. So much so that Dustin confronted you, saying that you’d been acting weird and  “goo-goo eyes over Eddie”. What did that twerp know anyways?
You knocked on the trailer door, wringing your hands over the strap of your bag in nervous anticipation. Why were you nervous? You’d spent so much time with him that you’d think you would’ve gotten over that by now. But this time around, the nervousness was different. Not like the first day when you were nervous because you were in a guy’s house who you never talked to before and was rumored to do dodgy shit, but a kind that made your heart thump loudly and your stomach do summersaults faster than a gymnast trying to show off. The kind that made you come up with weird analogies such as that one.
“(Y/n), you’re early,” Eddie said as he opened the door to let you inside. You smiled and took your bag off, setting it where you normally did.
“Yeah, one of my regulars canceled cause he was sick so you get me for a little longer today.” You replied.
“Sick with a fever or sick of you? Cause depending on which we may have something in common.” He said with a laugh. You frowned and looked at your feet. Did he really just say that he was sick of you? You pushed around a piece of carpet with the toe of your shoe, too embarrassed to look up, but in doing so you missed a key component of his joke. He took a swig of cough syrup, considering he’d been battling off a cold for the better half of a couple of days.
You sat at the small table for two in the living room area of his trailer, keeping your eyes glued downward. You heard a shuffle of feet and the movement of the chair as Eddie sat down across from you. He placed a cup of orange juice down before raising his eyebrows.
“Earth to (Y/n)? You didn’t check out on me did you?” He asked. You quickly glanced up before nodding. You didn’t know how you were going to salvage this.
“Oh yeah. I just remembered I was supposed to take Dustin out tonight though. A brother bonding thing our mom is making us do.” You said, grabbing your bag from the floor. Eddie raised his eyebrows, taken aback by your sudden declaration. You began to walk toward his door to let yourself out.
“O-oh, really? Alright. Yeah, no worries. I’ll see you tomorrow though, right?” He asked. You paused, a twinge of pain plucking your heartstrings. Why did he want to see you if he was so sick of you? But you didn’t have the guts to confront him.
“Y-Yeah… tomorrow.” You replied, walking out the door as soon as the words fell from your mouth. Eddie watched you get in your car and drive off. He always watched you leave, but this time it was different. It felt different. And maybe that different feeling was the reason that tomorrow never came.
Sure, the sun rose, the way it always does for tomorrow, but not for the tomorrow that he was supposed to see you. That day, 6:00 rolled around and you weren’t there, you weren’t rushing in late at 6:15, and you never called to cancel at 6:30. By 7:00 he was dialing Henderson’s number himself, because at 6:45 he’d convinced himself something terrible happened to you.
Your mom answered and apparently, you weren’t tutoring anyone anymore. Which was fine, he just thought you’d gotten close enough to tell him that yourself. When he asked to talk to you, she said you were busy showering. He leaned his head back and sighed in relief. The confirmation that you were safe was all he needed to be at ease.
“Okay, thank you, Ms. Henderson. Can you tell him to call me when he’s out? I have something important to tell him.” He asked. She said she’d relay the message to you and that was that. 8:00. 9:00. 10:00. 11:00. 12:00. And by 1:00 in the morning, he fell asleep by the phone, waiting on that call back that also never came.
Eddie found himself stuck between a rock and a hard place. He knew you were okay. He knew that for whatever reason you told your mom to lie about your tutoring. He knew you were avoiding him on purpose. The one thing he didn’t know, was why.
Everything was fine one day and then totally fucked the next. He’d found himself falling for Henderson’s older brother and then suddenly you hate his guts? I mean, what were the odds of that happening?
He couldn’t take it anymore. It had only been a week without you and he was going stir crazy. Even if you told him you wanted him dead, he had to hear it for himself. No more listening to his thoughts running a mile a minute, coming up with the most outlandish reasons for your distance. He was going to get to the bottom of it and he wasn’t gonna give you the chance to use a lousy excuse like showering to get out of it.
He ducked behind the lockers, leaning against the wall that was ever so conveniently adjacent to the dark room. You passed it every day on your way to English, and he was going to have that conversation with you if it killed him.
Finally, he heard your voice, dropping things off at your locker and chatting with your friends. They went their separate ways to their respective classes and he heard the clang of the door. You were walking his way. He checked to make sure the coast was clear (his reputation was already bad, no need to make it worse) and once he deemed that it was, he grabbed your wrist to pull you into the dark room.
“What the fuck!?” You shouted.
“Shhh! It’s just me!” He replied. You furrowed your eyebrows.
“Eddie? W-What are you doing? And where’s the damn light?” You asked, fumbling around the wall to search for a switch.
“No no no! Don’t do that! If you turn on the lights you’ll fuck up the photos and then the whole news club will kick my ass.” He whisper shouted. You laughed quietly at this, to which he sighed in response.
“You know I’ve missed that laugh.” He said. You felt your face heat up with embarrassment, glad it was shrouded by the darkness.
“Why have you been avoiding me (Y/n)?” He asked, his voice softer than you were used to. You frowned and looked at your feet.
“Last time I went to your house you said you were sick of me so I just… I didn’t think you’d care if I stopped showing up.” You replied, crossing your arms as if to shield yourself from whatever he was going to say.
“What? Sick of you? Why would I ever say that?”
“When I told you that my 5:00 canceled cause he was sick you said he was sick of me and that you had it in common with him! And don’t tell me I’m making anything up cause I remember it clear as day. I cried about it for hours when I got home.”
“Woah woah woah, slow down. I remember that too. But that wasn’t the full joke. I said ‘sick with a fever or sick of you? Cause depending on which we might have something in common.’” He replied. You rolled your eyes.
“Exactly.”
“(Y/n), I was also battling a fever. I drank medicine right after I said that to show you I was feeling sick. I’ve been coughing like crazy. Can’t you hear it in my raspy ass voice?” He asked with a laugh. You paused for a second, thinking over the sound of his voice and what he’d just said. Did you ignore him all week over a misunderstood joke?
“You were really sick?” You asked, almost too scared to hear the answer.
“Yes! You can even ask my uncle. I could never get sick of you. Shit, seeing you every day was the first thing I’ve ever looked forward to more than Hellfire days or Corroded Coffin performances.” He replied. You felt your heart start to thump faster once again.
“W-wait seriously? That’s so corny.” You said. You couldn’t see it, but Eddie’s cheeks flushed a deep shade of red.
“You’re the one who cried all night cause you thought I said I was sick of you!” He retorted. You laughed before wrapping your arms around him, which he was taken aback by.
“I’ll never ignore you again Eddie Munson.” You said. He smiled down at you fondly, despite knowing you couldn’t see him. He wrapped his arms around you and leaned his chin on your head.
“You better keep that promise, (Y/n) Henderson.”
And you did.

Blinded Me with Science (Eddie x Reader) REQUEST
Tumblr media
Request….
Warnings: All fluff for this one! I just love a fluffy Eddie sometimes.
Request: theimaginationgotmegood:  So, i got this idea where Henderson|Sister helps Eddie study for something cuz Dustin begged her to and she a pretty has tensed neck/shoulders and he massages it for her. After that they become friends and he keeps on easing her pain, like whenever they are together (cuz she‘s the kid‘s ride) and it‘s just become normal for everyone. But she understands a joke from him the wrong way and becomes insecure, keeps pushing him away because of it until he confronts her one day and then just fluff maybe? This would be so so so amazing!
Author’s Note: This took me a little while to write and I hope I did it justice! I did proof read, but if I missed anything, please forgive me. This is quite a long one but I think it turned out well. Let me know. My inbox is open for requests for Eddie x reader and Joseph x reader. I will be working on one for Joseph since I finished this one up. Be on the look out for that! Enjoy.
The final bell rang dismissing you from your final class of the day. You were thankful. It had been a long week and all  you wanted to do was go home and relax. Maybe go to the mall with one of your friends. You opened your locker, digging through your books when you heard a familiar voice.
“Hey sis.”, your brother, Dustin smiled.
You eyed him easily. “What’s up? Ready to go home?”
You continued to wade through your locker, organizing your binders with your books.
“I have my club after school remember? Hellfire Club?”
You rolled your eyes as you shut your locker. “The one that plays that silly game Dragons and Dungeons?”
Dustin looked offended. He had played D&D for years with his friends, Mike, Will, and Lucas. He thought you at least knew the proper order of the title.
“Dungeons and Dragons.”, he corrected.
You chuckled easily. “Yeah that. With that Munson guy.”
“Eddie.”, he clarified.
You nodded, pretending to take in the information he was spewing at you. Your little brother was smart and matter-of-fact. He always had been. You were very protective of your little brother. He may be a dork, but he was your dork and you would put anyone in their place who tried to pick on him. You remembered when Will Byers vanished and the town was so up in arms. Your mom and you were panicked with the possibility the same could happen your little brother.
“Okay. How long is this club gonna meet?”, you asked, brushing you hair behind you ear.
“A couple of hours. Will you wait for me?”, he asked as you both walked down the hallway.
“Well, I’m gonna go grab a bite and I’ll be back around 6. Sound good?”
Your little brother nodded as you all neared the drama room. You noticed a few teenagers piling in, dressed in baseball shirts that read Hellfire Club. Wow, this was really serious to them. Dustin waved to you as he went into the room. Your classmate with long brown hair, doe brown eyes, and a wide smile greeted him. That had to be Munson. You hadn’t really talked to him but you knew a little bit about him. He had repeated the 12th grade twice before now. This was his third senior year. He was twenty years old while the rest of your class was seventeen and eighteen.
After greeting Dustin, his eyes shot up to you and you instantly felt awkward and turned your glance away, quickly beginning to walk down the hallway towards the exit that would lead you to the parking lot. Hurrying down the small flight of stairs, you pushed the double doors open and the wind hit you in the face, refreshing you. You had never met his eyes for that long and it was something about it that shook you to your core.
_____________________________________________________________
A couple hours passed as you parked your car in the front of the school as there was no staff here this time of night other than custodians. You locked the door, preparing to go inside to get your brother. You were ready to go home and finally see some peace in your room, listening to your new Whitney Houston record. You hoped this Hellfire Club was done with their meeting. The hall was quiet as you neared the drama room once again. A few of the members came out, signifying their meeting was complete.
Dustin looked at you, waving enthusiastically. You gave him a small wave, letting him know you were ready for him to leave. Eddie once again caught your glance as he saw what Dustin was putting so much energy into. Dustin waved you inside. You gave him an odd glance. You didn’t have to go in there. What was he thinking? You had only agreed to pick him up after his club was finished. Dustin waved you inside again, this time more emphasis on coming inside. You were confused but you opened the door gently, coming inside. Dustin was the only one left besides their leader.
“Hey sis.”, Dustin smiled.
Eddie had been packing stuff up before Dustin spoke. His eyes immediately shot up to you and he paused what he was doing as if he was frozen in time.
“Hey.”, you smiled gently.
“Sister? Henderson, it’s rude to not introduce us.”, Eddie said coyly.
Dustin laughed before speaking. “This is my sister Y/N. Y/N, this is the Dungeon Master himself, Eddie Munson.”
Eddie hopped over a chair, immediately placing himself in front of you. You were a bit taken aback. You were sure your face symbolized that.  He reached his hand out, waiting for you to reciprocate. It took you a moment to process his actions, but you soon gained your footing. You reached your hand out to his, both of you making contact with a handshake. It felt like electricity shot through your body and you hated to admit it. How could you feel this way about a man you barely knew? It felt like uncharted territory.
He smiled up at you and did the same. It was as if time had stopped around you and nothing else mattered. You never noticed how normal Eddie actually appeared. I mean, sure he was an outcast but he didn’t appear to be much different than anyone else.
“Nice to meet you. Welcome to Hellfire.”
You nodded. “Thanks.”
“Ready Dusty?”, you asked your little brother, turning to him.
“Yeah just a sec.”
You turned to go, making your way to the door and you could hear indistinct talking between Eddie and your little brother. All of a sudden, you heard them loudly exchange goodbyes. Dustin caught up with you, almost immediately. He seemed like he was in a really good mood since his meeting. You all neared the car, settling inside. You both buckled up as you started the car.
Dustin looked down at his lap, before turning to look out the window. Sometimes it was a buzzkill to have to chauffeur your little brother around, but you and your mom agreed it was not safe for Dustin to be riding his bike around town everywhere. At least not to school and away from school. You could tell Dustin had something on his mind.
“Is everything okay?”, you started.
“Yeah.”,  Dustin answered, dryly.
You gave him a confused look. “Dustin, did someone say something to you? I swear to God I’ll—”
He interrupted you. “No, no. Nothing like that.”, he laughed nervously.
You narrowed your eyes before looking over to him. “Then what is it?”
He sighed, twiddling his thumbs nervously.
“Spit it out Dusty.”, your voice became serious and flat.
“Well, um, Eddie needs some help.”
Your face crinkled in confusion. “What kind of help?”
Why was your brother telling you Eddie Munson needed your help? Eddie gave no indication he needed anything from you or sought any of your “help”. Maybe that was why Eddie was being so nice to you. Maybe this was all a set up to get your help. You were always paranoid of things like that. Most of the time you came off confident and sure of yourself, but it was little seeds of doubt that knocked the wind out of your sails.
“Well, you know Eddie has had some trouble graduating,”, Dustin began nervously.
“Uh-huh.”, you nodded.
“He’s uh really struggling Y/N. He needs help passing his chemistry exam. Can you help him?”, Dustin pleaded.
You thought for a moment. You weighed your options. What was it to you if Eddie Munson didn’t graduate with the class of 1986?  That wasn’t your concern. You were trying to get into the college you had been wanting to get into since you could remember. However, the sympathetic side of you was fighting with your logical side. You were great at Chemistry. Making an A average. Eddie had been trying twice to graduate from high school already. This was his third try.
“Dustin,”, you sighed. “I have my own exams.”
Dustin looked defeated but quickly was fired up again, ready to convince you to help his friend.
“Please Y/N. Eddie needs to pass this exam to graduate. It’s his third senior year.”
You closed your eyes quickly, sighing before opening them again. You did offer tutoring before certain tests. Mrs.Stern was always recommending you for help before chemistry tests, calling you one of her brightest students. Your mind was in a flashback. You could remember before a test, Mrs.Stern was up in front of the chalkboard and periodic table of elements. You also remembered Eddie sitting in the corner, eyeing his latest grade. He looked like he had lost his best friend but then quickly changed his face, fearing anyone would see.
He crumpled his test up into a ball, acting as if this class didn’t matter. Your heart instantly felt a ping of sadness. Could you really say no? You had thought about offering tutoring help to Eddie secretly but you didn’t know him all that well and he may take it wrong. Even Mrs.Stern’s words rang through your head that you heard her say to Eddie as you slipped out of the class room in front of him. “Edward, if you want to graduate this year, I highly suggest you talk to Ms.Henderson. She can help tutor you. Your grades are very borderline, most failing. She can give you that push you need to pass.”
You tried to shake it from your mind. You had waited at your locker, seeing if he would take her up on the opportunity but he passed your locker quickly, defeated. Dustin didn’t know any of that.
“Dustin.”, you groaned, your head spinning from remembering that painful day for him.
“Please sis.”, he was practically begging.
“So why couldn’t the big bad Dungeon Master ask me himself? He seems very charismatic.”, you spat off, thinking about how you had almost wished he had asked you for help that day.
Dustin sighed. “I don’t know. He asked me to ask you.”
You all pulled into your driveway. You shut the car off, getting out. Your brother appeared to be confused as to why you hadn’t gave him a straight answer. You felt him chase behind you as you grabbed your backpack, hurrying into your all’s house.
“Hey Y/N. Dustin.”, your mom greeted as you threw your backpack down on the couch.
“Please.”, Dustin pleaded again, ignoring your mom’s greeting.
“I don’t know Dustin. I have a lot of stuff to do of my own.”
Your mom looked confused as she was finishing up dinner. “What’s going on?”
You eyed your mom. “Nothing.”
Dustin looked at you before opening his mouth. “Y/N won’t help tutor one of my friends.”
There was your annoying baby brother. He was practically tattling on you for not tutoring Eddie. But I mean Mrs.Stern herself told Eddie how important it was that he sought tutoring. Plus, you all interacted at school and he had a chance to mention it to you if he was so concerned and worried about passing. Why didn’t he?
“Y/N, is this true?”
“Yes mom.”, you answered, glaring at your little brother who was smiling unapologetically.
“What is wrong with this boy?”, she continued as she turned her attention back to dinner.
You went into the kitchen, feeling your little brother’s presence behind you. You leaned up against the dining room table.
“Nothing other than he’s on his third senior year.”, you rolled your eyes, grabbing a cup of water.
“He’s trying.”, Dustin countered.
Your mom was continuing to attempt to finish dinner. She was dishing out helpings to your and your brother’s plates before her own. She had made grilled chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, and macaroni and cheese. She was taking in this information, attempting to process it before she gave her motherly advice. Your mom walked past you all to the dinner table where she set the table.
“Well honey, I think it’s a compliment. You are very smart. This boy needs your help to graduate.”, your mom smiled as she brushed her apron.
Dustin made his way to his usual chair, immediately beginning to scarf dinner down. You sat down in your chair, slowly. You didn’t make eye contact with your mom or Dustin as you began swirling your fork in your food, stewing on what your mom said. You could feel their eyes scanning over you, waiting for you to say something.
“I’ll think about it.”, was all you offered.
Dinner ended and you began your nightly routine of finishing homework, taking a shower, brushing your teeth, and preparing to lay down. You had a big day tomorrow and you were so exhausted from waiting on Dustin’s new found club. You were jotting down something in a notebook, listening to your new Whitney Houston record when you heard a knock on your door.
Your eyes shot up to your door as your brother’s head popped in. “Hey sis.”
“Dustin.”, you sighed, putting your notebook down.
“So uh,”, he began as he tapped the frame of your door nervously. “Have you decided?”
You eyed him, raising an eyebrow. “About?”
You knew what this was about but you just wanted to hear Dustin say it.
“Helping Eddie.”, he said quietly.
You sighed, getting up to pause you record player. It appeared as if Dustin was debating whether he should enter your room or not. You had a rule that he was to not enter your room without your permission. You closed your eyes before opening them back up to Dustin. He inched himself in the door way more, his shoulders and head appearing. It was time to make a decision. Your mom’s words echoed in your head. “Well honey, I think it’s a compliment. You are very smart. This boy needs your help to graduate.” You thought back to that fateful day in chemistry class. Eddie looking so defeated. Mrs.Stern encouraging him to seek tutoring. “Edward, if you want to graduate this year, I highly suggest you talk to Ms.Henderson. She can help tutor you. Your grades are very borderline, most failing. She can give you that push you need to pass.”
Then you considered the fact that Dustin was absolutely enamored with Eddie Munson. You even were beginning to think Dustin looked up to him. Sure, you were his big sister but he really loved Dungeons and Dragons. He always had. Eddie had an entire club dedicated to it. Eddie was a male figure in his life and appeared to be a big brother to him. Eddie deserved a diploma as much as anyone else did. The only way you could regret helping him is if he didn’t put any effort in or was a complete jerk.
“Fine.”, you sighed, crossing your arms. “I’ll help Eddie.”
Dustin’s eyes lit up as he shoved your door completely open, practically busting it down. He ran over to you, smiling and laughing. He tackled you.
“Thank you Y/N! Thank you!”,
You rolled your eyes before laughing yourself and ending with a smile. “However, I’m only doing this because you really like Eddie and he did let you in his Hellfire Club.”
Dustin nodded enthusiastically. “Thank you sis. I’ll tell Eddie tomorrow! Goodnight!”
Dustin gave you huge bear hug before running out of your room, the happiest you had seen him in a long time. He and his friends had been through a lot together, including you, Nancy Wheeler, Steve Harrington, and Jonathan Byers. You all shared a common interest: Dustin, Mike, Lucas, Will, El, and Max. You all had their best interest at heart and would do anything to keep them safe and secure.
“Night Dusty.”, you laughed as you turned your lamp off, climbing into bed.
What had you just got yourself into?
______________________________________________________________
The weekend passed more quickly than you had hoped. The beginning of the school week had approached. Dustin had never really confirmed how Eddie felt when you accepted to tutor him. You wondered if Eddie had decided to back out or change his mind.
“Y/N! Telephone!”, your mom yelled from downstairs.
Confusion swept across your face as you laid down your magazine, turning the corner at the top of the staircase. Dustin’s door was closed. Nothing unusual. You took the steps two at a time, feeling anxious of who could be on the other side of the telephone. Your mom held out the cream colored landline in anticipation.
“Who is it?”, you whispered.
Your mom just smiled. “Eddie ring a bell?”
Your face still wore an expression of surprise as you hesitantly reached to grab the phone away from your mother. You sat down on the couch instinctively before your mom rushed back into the kitchen, attempting to give you some privacy. Your hand was slightly shaking as you pulled the phone up to your ear.
“This is Y/N.”
“Hey it’s Eddie.”
“I gathered,” you began laughing. “So what’s up?”
You heard Eddie sigh on the other end of the phone, some static picking up. Static made you nervous as that usually signaled something from the Upside Down. Something of which, your all’s parents were oblivious to.
“Uh Dustin told me you agreed to help me study. Just wondering when we could.”
His voice shook slightly, indicating he was nervous. You were mentally chalking it up to the fact he probably wasn’t used to asking someone for help. Well, technically this time he hadn’t asked either but he at least communicated it to Dustin.
“Let me see,”, you reached for your backpack, pulling your planner out.
Eddie was silent on the other end of line, waiting for you to continue the conversation.
“When do you have Hellfire?”, you asked seriously, grabbing a pen to jot down when his club was meeting.
Organization was something you loved to do. It made you feel in control of your life. It was something you could control versus the other things that went on in the world.
“Uh usually Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.”
“Okay. How about we study on Tuesdays and Thursdays from four to eight”, you offered.
You could hear hesitation on the other end of the line. You hoped Eddie would realize he needed this in order to graduate.
“Okay, where should we meet?”, he finally asked.
Relief washed over you as he said this.
“Uh we can come to my house if you want.”, you offered, assuming he wouldn’t want to be seen with a “nerd”.
Eddie agreed to this and you all exchanged goodbyes as you hung up the phone. Dustin bounced down the stairs, looking happier than ever. You smirked at him before sitting yourself up on the couch. He smiled at you and waved as he turned to go in the kitchen. You jumped up and followed him, grabbing his shoulder before he made it to his destination.
“What the hell?”, Dustin asked, scoffing.
“Did you tell Eddie to call me?”, you asked abruptly.
“Um yeah?”
You nodded. “Tuesday is our first study session.”
Dustin smiled before you both went into the kitchen.
_________________________________________________________
It was Tuesday. The bell rang, signaling the school day was over. Students rushed past you as you grabbed your Chemistry book and binder from your locker. You shut your locker and began waiting for your baby brother to appear. He always met you at your locker. A few minutes passed before he finally showed up. Minimal conversation was exchanged as you prepared mentally for your study session with Eddie.
“So what all are you going to teach Eddie?”, Dustin asked.
“A little bit of everything. He needs to do well on these tests and he needs to understand the information for his final exam.”
Dustin accepted this with a nod.
“Okay, so we should lay down some ground rules.”, you put your hands on your hips.
Dustin stared at you. “Huh?”
“Really Dusty?”, you laughed before continuing.
“I know Eddie is your “Dungeon Master”,” you made air quotations. “However, no interruptions.”
Dustin eyed you, not offering a response.
“No talk of Dungeons and Dragons.”, you narrowed your eyes.
“But Eddie just started a new campaign---”, Dustin protested.
“Absolutely not, Dustin. Tuesdays and Thursdays are MY days to help Eddie study. Do not even think about coming in my room.”
Dustin allowed his head to fall and he nodded like a pitiful puppy, thinking this would sway your decision. Sometimes his puppy dog eyes worked. Other times, they didn’t. This was one of those occasions. You bit your lip, turning your attention away from your baby brother and to see if Eddie was coming. He just had to. You eyed your watch and then back to the hallway, repeating this several times. Dustin was hardly paying attention.
All of a sudden, when you were the least focused, you felt a presence. You looked up quickly to see Eddie Munson in front of you. He gave you a small smile. Most everyone had filed out of the school by now and you guessed Eddie didn’t want to be seen with a “nerd”.
“Sorry I’m late.”, he brushed through his dark brown hair.
“It’s fine. Ready to follow me and Dustin to our house and we can get started?”, you asked, forgetting he was late.
He nodded and he and Dustin began immediately talking about D&D. There were things mentioned that you hardly could keep up with. You let them have this moment. But when you all crossed the threshold of the Henderson home, D&D would not be mentioned further. And you were sticking to your guns.
The ride home was uneventful, however, you reminded Dustin once again of the rules. You pulled into your driveway and Eddie’s van pulled in behind your car.  Dustin grabbed his backpack, waiting to see Eddie. You gave him another glare. He felt it. You grabbed your bag and closed the door of your vehicle. All Eddie had was his Chemistry book and a tattered notebook. You did your best to try to avoid staring.
Dustin welcomed Eddie into your all’s home. Your mom was at work but would be home soon and would probably make dinner.
“Eddie, come see my room.”, Dustin laughed.
“Uh absolutely not, Dusty. Eddie and I are going to study.”, you reminded your little brother.
A frown immediately crossed his face. “But sis-“
“NO.”, you raised your voice.
Dustin knew you meant business and decided dropping the idea would be in his best interest. Eddie couldn’t help but to smirk at you before turning his attention back to Dustin.
“You can show me your room before I head home Henderson.”, he smirked.
You rolled your eyes as Eddie followed behind you upstairs. You sighed as you opened the door to your room. It was a normal girls room. You threw your bag down on your bed and began taking your Chemistry book, binder, notebook, and pencil out. Your desk was at the bottom of your bed. You had a spare decorative chair in your room and offered Eddie his choice of which he preferred.
“So….Dusty?”, he smirked.
“I’ve always called him that.”, you said emotionless, almost like a robot.
You could feel a slight tension in the air. Both of your all’s worlds and social circles were colliding. It was slightly overwhelming for you. But you were doing this because of Dusty. Because Eddie Munson was someone your little brother looked up to and thought a lot of. It was more than a lot of people felt about him. Dustin was the reason you were giving this a chance. If Dustin was kicked out of his Hellfire Club, he would absolutely be crushed and then you’d want to kill Eddie. This was a much better option.
“Dusty.”, he repeated. “Has a nice ring to it.”
You tried your best to refrain from rolling your eyes in front of him. You sat down and opened your book, starting at the very beginning. If Eddie could go back and gain information, this would immensely help him. Eddie noticed you were going to begin this study session so he followed suit and slowly sat down beside of you. You eyed him as you opened your drawer, pulling out another pencil and holding it out for him.
“You might need this.”
He looked at you with his doe brown eyes and then down at the pencil before he took it from you, his rings touching your skin, sending a slight chill down your spine. You fought against your self, dismissing any further thoughts from your brain. This was for Dustin. You flipped open your binder and started at the beginning. Eddie noticed your binder and how you had everything just so-so.
“Organization could help too.”, you smirked easily.
Eddie nodded. “Yeah, I’ve never been great at this school thing.”, he brushed through his curls nervously.
You pretended not to notice his nervousness as you were sure he didn’t want you to.
“That’s why I’m going to help you. Let’s start from the beginning. An atom is known as the most basic building block of chemistry. It’s the smallest form of matter.”
Eddie nodded, scribbling this down in his hand writing in his tattered notebook.
“There are three types of particles atoms can consist of. There are protons. They have a positive charge. Neutrons which are neutrally charged. And lastly, electrons which are negative.”, you breathed as you scribbled three circles, one with a plus sign, one no sign, and the last with a minus sign.
Eddie nodded once again, processing this information. He seemed to really be listening to you. Sure, he was the all-knowing Dungeon Master when it came to D&D but he had much to learn when it came to Chemistry. The evening passed fairly quickly with you all taking a few breaks. Eddie seemed to be catching on as he re-explained the information you had given him. You all reviewed the Periodic Table of Elements, which was last on your list for the day.
You sighed, finally closing your book. “That’s all I had planned for this session.”
Eddie stood up easily, stretching. You rubbed your neck, taking a deep sigh.
“Tense?”, Eddie smirked easily as he came back over to your desk.
You eyed him, confused for a moment. Your brain was trying to process the question that just rolled off his tongue. What did this have to do with Chemistry?
“Uh, we’ve been sitting here for four hours. Kinda.”, you said easily.
Eddie smirked, coming behind your chair and his ring-clad hands instantly going for your shoulders. This took you by surprise and a hot, deep feeling entered the pit of your stomach.
“Mind if I help? I mean you were nice enough to help me after all.”
You nodded, your brain turning to mush almost instantly. His fingers pinched your shoulders up, releasing them and to be honest, it felt amazing. You hadn’t realized exactly how tense and stressed out you had been up until now. Now that Eddie Munson was helping release the tension.
“Wow, you were tense, Henderson.”, he mumbled as he continued working on your shoulders.
“Yeah I guess so.”, you hummed, feeling relief.
You could sense Eddie’s smirk spread across his lips as he kneaded your shoulders for a few more minutes. You held back any sounds of relief as they mimicked other sounds. And you definitely did not want your brother coming through your door right now. Once Eddie felt satisfied that he had removed the tension and kinks from your shoulders, his rings brushed the skin leading to your neck.
Where had he learned to do this? And why was he so good at it? Your brain could wander and run with the possible explanations, but you decided to only focus on him massaging your neck. You closed your eyes, feeling relaxed, even sinking slightly in your chair. Eddie, in fact, noticed this too, causing him to smile even more. You could feel his rough, calloused hands against your skin.
Eddie let out a sigh as he worked to remove the tension and kinks from your neck. It took him a few minutes but he finally had succeeded and was satisfied especially when it took you a minute to stand up and gather yourself.
“Thanks, Munson.”, you smirked as you rubbed your neck, no longer feeling tense.
“Welcome, Henderson.”, he smirked back and before another word could be spoken, Dustin burst through your door.
“Hey are you guys done? It’s like eight twenty.”, he complained.
You both eyed each other before turning your attention to your little brother and nodding. “Yeah, we’re done.”
Eddie kept his promise and went and saw your brother’s room. Your mom made a late dinner and invited Eddie to stay, which he agreed to. You and Eddie kept stealing glances across the dining room table. Dustin seemed oblivious to this. Maybe helping Eddie wasn’t such a bad thing after all.
____________________________________________________________
A few weeks had passed and you and Eddie had kept up your all’s study sessions regularly, working around his Hellfire Club meetings. Eddie’s grades were improving in Chemistry. His latest test was a B minus which he brought to your house and displayed to you proudly. You all were becoming closer than just study partners. In fact, Eddie invited you to the Hideaway to watch his band, Corroded Coffin play. You had to bring Dustin too, but Eddie was happy to see you both in the audience. It was a step up from the four drunks he usually played for.
Today, he requested you sit in on a Hellfire Club meeting to see what it was truly all about. You agreed which your little brother was ecstatic about. You were a bit nervous when everyone’s eyes were on you as you entered the drama room. Lucas gave you a confused look before turning to Dustin and asking him why you were here. Eddie had a lone chair near his “throne” and patted it as he seen you enter the room.
“Come on Y/N we’re just getting started.”
You came in and smiled a shy smile to everyone in the room. You sat down easily. Eddie began to get very theatrical as the Hellfire Club got deeper into their campaign. You smiled as you attempted to understand what was going on. The meeting went by quickly. Eddie reached a spot where he felt comfortable halting the campaign. Everyone was packing up their things as Eddie turned his attention to you.
“Nice work out there.”, you smirked.
He smirked. “Thanks. Did you enjoy it?”
You nodded. “I definitely got a deeper understanding of D&D.”
You both shared a laugh. Dustin and Lucas just watched on. You and Eddie began talking about the next study session. You looked down at the floor, rubbing the back of your neck again. Eddie could sense once again you seemed tense and without hesitation, you allowed him to help ease your tension the way he had been. A massage.
“Dude, do you see this?”, you heard Lucas whisper to your brother.
“Yeah they always seem to be doing this nowadays.”, Dustin rolled his eyes.
“Are you sure there’s not more going on? I mean—.”
Dustin interrupted. “Nope. They’re just becoming good friends so they say.”
Eddie rolled his eyes. “Henderson, Sinclair. I can hear you.”
Lucas got an embarrassed look before waving goodbye to everyone and jetting out of the drama room quickly. You and Eddie shared another laugh as Dustin eyed you both, sitting down, waiting for you all to finish. Everyone else in the Hellfire Club never batted an eye at this as you both had been doing it for a few weeks now. You scratched Eddie’s back, helping him pass Chemistry and well, he massaged yours.
_____________________________________________________________
Another week passed and Eddie was now passing Chemistry. He was on track to graduate with the class of 1986. You work almost seemed to be done. Eddie had asked for another couple of study sessions for the final exam. Which you agreed to. Prom was coming up and you didn’t have a date yet. You debated asking Eddie but wondered if it was even his scene. He probably wouldn’t want to go. One minute, you had yourself talked into it. The next, you had talked yourself out.
Eddie came up to your locker. “One more tests stands between me and that diploma.”
You smirked, organizing your books and binders to your liking before meeting his eyes. “Yeah and I am so proud of you, Eddie.”
He smiled. “I couldn’t have done it without you. Who knew? The freak of Hawkins High could pass thanks to a nerd.”
There was some humor laced in his words but the last word caused a ping in your heart and a lump in your throat. He was smiling but your smile quickly panned into a slight frown.
“Yeah who knew?”, you fake laughed, holding back the tears that threatened to fall from your eyes. “Uh gotta go get Dustin home. He wants to rent a new movie tonight and order in pizza.”
Eddie looked surprised you were leaving so quickly. “Okay. I’ll see ya Tuesday.”
You nodded, rushing off before the lone tear slid out of your eye. You were turned away, walking away from Eddie thankfully so he couldn’t see. Nerd. That word replayed in your head as you hurried to your car, unlocking it and starting it before your brother got there. You held back the sobs that threatened to rack through your chest. Grabbing a Kleenex, you dabbed your eyes and quickly dried up the tears as Dustin waved for you to unlock the door.
_____________________________________________________________
The next week came and it was Tuesday, the day you were supposed to study with Eddie since the “nerd” comment. You had avoided him all day Monday, even waiting in the car for Dustin after Hellfire. You even went as far as to stay home from school Tuesday. You didn’t know if the anxiety made you sick to your stomach or you were actually sick. You gave Dustin a message to tell Eddie you were sick and couldn’t help him study this evening.
Even when Dustin came home, you never asked for Eddie’s reaction. You never even went to see Dustin. You laid on your bed, thinking about how much of a nerd you could be. You turned to view your desk, instantly remembering the countless study sessions you and Eddie had shared, making you feel instantly sad. Why had you let yourself get this close? It seemed as though there was not that much more than a study buddy in this for Eddie.
Night fell upon the Henderson household. Your mom had came and told you goodnight and asked if everything was okay. You lied and said yes. She asked why you had been held up in your room all evening. You just told her you were sick. She accepted this answer. Dustin knew something was wrong with you but he gave you space. You continued to overthink as you drifted off to sleep, dreading tomorrow.
Dustin was waiting downstairs when you grabbed your keys from the coffee table. You all grabbed your lunches from the kitchen and went off to school. There was a feeling of dread in the pit of your stomach as you started the car and backed out of the driveway. Dustin made small talk with you, but nothing more as he could still sense you were on edge. You were going to first period which was English. Third was Chemistry and you absolutely dreaded it. You hoped Eddie would not even look your way.
Third period came and you sat down at a table all by yourself. Today was an actual lab day and you would have a partner. People filed in the class, taking seats beside one another. You opened your book, not looking for Eddie to come in the door. You were silently hoping he wouldn’t. You were the only one not partnered up and suddenly, Eddie came through the door just as the tardy bell rang.
Eddie hurried his way over to your table, taking the stool beside of you. You silently cursed in your head but there was nothing more you could do right now but grin and bear it. You looked down at your book, not meeting his glance. You could feel his eyes on you as if he was praying you would say something—anything.
“So feeling better?”, he spoke up, clearing his throat.
Mrs. Stern was writing on the board, not paying any attention to the small amount of chatter going on in the lab.
“Yeah.”, was all you offered.
Eddie looked at you, stunned. Your response was cold and dry, no emotion evident. You didn’t look at him, hoping this would deter him from talking to you further.
“Y/N, what’s wrong? What have I done?”
You eyed him before turning your attention back to the board. “Eddie, look, I don’t want to talk about this right now.”
Eddie scooted closer, whispering. “So when can we? I obviously have done something.”
“No, just please drop it.”, you hushed.
Mrs. Stern eyed you both as if in a silent way to tell you all to cease your conversation before having to call you down in front of the entire class. You could still feel Eddie’s eyes on you but they eventually turned to the board as Mrs. Stern explained the experiment and gave directions. She instructed Eddie to throw his hair up in a loose ponytail to prevent it from being a fire hazard. Part of you wanted to look, but you were still upset and hurt.
You and Eddie were successful with the experiment, being the first group to finish. There was ten minutes left in third period so you all began washing beakers, pipettes, test tubes, and an Erlenmeyer flask with proper PPE of course. Eddie still had his goggles on as did you with his hair pulled back.
“Y/N can we please talk about this?”, Eddie asked as glass clanked together.
“Eddie, there’s nothing to talk about.”, you persisted.
“Henderson.”, his voice became sharp causing you to stop what you were doing and eye him.
“What?”, you bit back, matching his tone.
“What did I do?”
“I don’t know, freak.”, you said with venom evident in the last word of your sentence.
Eddie didn’t speak and instantly stopped in his tracks, realizing his mistake.
“Doesn’t feel so good does it? Sorry the nerd is a total buzzkill to be seen with. All I’m good for is helping you pass your senior year.”, you snapped as you went back to washing the lab equipment.
Eddie eyed you, narrowing his eyes, becoming exasperated. “This is because I called you a nerd?”
You nodded. “All I am to you, isn’t it Munson?”
You didn’t meet his eyes once again, not straying from your task at hand. He took a deep sigh before becoming much less frustrated.
“No, never. I didn’t mean it like that. It was just a joke. You mean a lot to me Y/N.”, Eddie looked at you so serious, causing you to stop in your tracks.
“Funny way of showing it.”, you sighed, feeling sadness instead of anger.
Eddie sighed again. “I didn’t mean anything by it. Honest to God. I just thought it would make you laugh. Is this why you’ve been canceling on me? You didn’t even come to Hellfire to get Dustin.”
You looked down, feeling that lump in your throat again and just nodded in response, afraid your voice would crack.
Eddie put his hand over yours and you allowed it. “Can you look at me?”, he pleaded.
You finally turned to look at him, his doe brown eyes filled with concern. Yours filled with tears. You sniffled easily, feeling like such a loser for letting your emotions show.
“Y/N, I’m sorry. I’m sorry I made you feel that way. I know I’m a freak, a loser. You’re the only one who’s really taken a chance on me.”
A tear slipped out of your eye and you laughed a little before growing serious again. “You’re not a loser or a freak, Eddie. You’re really smart when you apply yourself. I mean I was amazed by you in more ways than one. I just was worried you were embarrassed of me because I know we come from different social circles.”
Eddie smirked before wiping your tear. “Y/N I’d never be embarrassed of you. I’m out of your league clearly.”
You let out a small smile before running your thumb over his hand. “No I was actually gonna ask you to prom. How stupid right?”
You sounded nervous and your voice shook as another tear fell from your eyes. Eddie looked surprised as a small strand of his hair had fallen out of his ponytail.
“You mean Dustin wouldn’t kill me?”, he laughed, breaking the tension.
You shoved Eddie playfully, causing him to laugh in turn. You met his eyes and bit your lip.
“I was gonna ask you after our study session yesterday.”, he smirked.
Your expression was one of surprise. Now, you felt a ping of regret that you didn’t keep your study session yesterday. The bell rang, dismissing third period. You and Eddie were smiling as you both grabbed your stuff off the table and went out into the hallway. You stopped with him at his locker.
“I don’t have to wear a suit, do I?”, he asked as he put the items in his locker.
“Nope.”, you smiled.
You both stared into each other’s eyes, his hair still up.
“Shit.”, he muttered, still noticing his hair was up.
You grabbed his hand pulling it back down before you smiled at him, leaning and planting a kiss on his cheek.
“Let’s do one better, Henderson.”, he smirked as he held your hands, you both leaning in for a kiss in front of everyone, defying the social circles of high school.

so someone in the comments of WBWH asked what a/b/o designations the other BCS characters are in my fic universe, and I think I gotta answer! under a cut just in case you don't want spoilers (though idk yet exactly which of these other characters will appear in the story proper, so don't get your hopes up, lol)
fun for worldbuilding anyway! subject to change if I find something else that works better later on. let's dive in:
Gus - omega. and a bit of a complex situation! he came to the cartel initially as an open omega, and Max was his bonded alpha partner. Hector almost killed HIM instead of Max, but got A Look from Eladio and switched it up at the last second, realizing that Eladio would rather have a heartbroken omega to control than an enraged mourning alpha. (bad decision, since Max probably would've turned out less ruthless.)
he's openly omega in his civilian persona, but alpha in his cartel one. so, most people who know him assume he's an alpha pretending to be an omega for his cover, when really he's an omega pretending to be an alpha pretending to be an omega... inception! does that even make any sense?
Victor and Tyrus - alphas, btw.
Mike - alpha, but he pretends to be a beta. does anyone in this universe own what they are? anyway... Mike dislikes the alpha posturing bullshit, always has. he was open about it when he was a cop, but after moving to Albuquerque, decided to get a fresh start as a mild-mannered beta parking lot attendant. they tell Kaylee it's not something you should normally lie about (since she knew him from before he moved), but sometimes pop pops want to keep things private. she has no trouble keeping the secret.
Kim - alpha. she doesn't often show it when she's not with Jimmy, though. she's been browbeaten into putting up with people's shit her whole life, and as a result, she feels insecure about being openly alpha. when she gets into public defense, she downplays it even more, thinking it'll help put her clients at ease. dislikes the aggressive alpha lawyer stereotype.
Jimmy - omega. but he's never let that stop him, despite the aforementioned "lawyers are/should be alphas" stereotyping. he's the omegaverse equivalent of what we'd know as nonbinary: doesn't really care about designations one way or the other, and will pretend to be anything if it serves his purposes (real-world equivalent being akin to my gender, "whatever's funniest for the bit"). if it helps him scam someone, he can be your angle or yuor devil alpha or your omega.
as Saul Goodman, he markets himself as "Better Call Saul - the omega that KNOWS how to FIGHT for your RIGHTS! hi, I'm Saul Goodman, and I know a thing or two about being OPPRESSED! about having THE MAN say you're not WORTH DEFENDING! well, I believe that every alpha, beta, and omega in this country has rights..." etc. etc.
Howard - beta. considered a nepo baby because of this. ol' Howard couldn't alpha his way to the top, so he had to have his father hire him, or at least, that's what they say. he doesn't pretend to be something he's not, though. he's not ashamed of who he is, and his clients and coworkers (more or less) respect him for that, if nothing else.
Chuck - alpha. the picture of the alpha attorney stereotype in his prime. Jimmy used to resent him for "stealing all the alpha genes outta mom's womb," but after Chuck telling him about 400 times that the father's sperm are what determines the sex of the baby, he gave it up and got over it. the fact that he's not "living up to his gender" after getting sick weighs on him heavily. toxic alphalinity!
Domingo/Krazy-8 - beta. by the BrBa timeline, he'll have switched to masquerading as an alpha.
and not all of the Salamancas may be as they seem... :)
that's all the major names I can think of right now! hope this entertained/enlightened!

Based Anon here!! I can't stop thinking about what we talked about Mike's character arc right now and I was also thinking about the juiciness of him having a Vecna vision to unravel his hidden character's arc. So, I have a kinda ambitious request to make: Could you describe the sequence or the elements Mike's (perfect) vecna vision must contain, please?
BASED ANON WITH THE BASED QUESTIONS!!!! this has been in my inbox for such a long time and i am SO sorry. i was originally gonna answer this with a huge breakdown of the overkill trance songs but i could never get the little details to fit quite right and i feel i covered most of the actual implications in the original post anyway and i don’t wanna start putting all my eggs in one basket so! there’s only one moment i’m gonna be talking about here that pulls straight from the overkill songs because i genuinely think it would be a fantastic ending to mike’s trance
let me say first that i’m coming at this from the perspective that mike will be in this trance for the two year time skip, giving us plenty of time to go through a lot of his fears and insecurities. we need the time to really understand everything that’s been withheld from us and that goes beyond just mike’s feelings for will and fear of being outted. so, below the cut, i’m gonna get into dustin, lucas, nancy, his parents, max, el, will, and then my ideal final scene. i don’t necessarily think the trance explorations will appear in that order (besides the ending) but that’s how i feel like talking about it
Mike’s relationships with each of these characters goes farther beyond the aspect I’m assigning them, however I don’t think we’ll have time to dive into every little detail of every relationship. I’m taking the most prominent thing from each dynamic and showing how it leads to their role in Mike’s trance.
ALSO Max isn’t here because I don’t think she’s going to be in his trance as an illusion, and getting into that deserves a whole other post lmao
Dustin; Loneliness
Okay, starting with Dustin. How does Dustin fit into Mike’s trance? This is something I plan on doing a very deep dive with once I finish the post about Mike’s self destruction, but I actually think Mike and Dustin will inevitably end up fighting about Eddie in S5. They could support each other, but narratively, Mike needs to feel like he’s also lost Dustin in order to push him to the final scene.
I have a feeling Mike is gonna be very reluctant to believe Eddie is actually dead despite Dustin’s insistence. Mike has suffered the most loss of actual people in the show right next to Joyce. He thought Will died, he thought El died, he thought Hopper died (yes Hopper is important to Mike’s story and he cares about him and their dynamic is a whole thing). Every single person Mike has cared for, loved, who died, eventually came back. Nobody is ever really dead in Mike’s world. He’s seen other people die, he’s seen them stay dead, but it’s never the people he cares about the most.
Alongside that, Mike is a character with a lot of hope. He’s stubborn and he almost never gives up with ease. If there’s a solution, he’s not gonna stop until he finds it. Even if Dustin saw Eddie die, Mike isn’t gonna stop hoping. They saw Will’s body, they saw El die, and Joyce first hand reported Hopper’s death and they all came back. He’s not gonna believe Eddie died just like that, not anymore.
This is something that I talk about in the “Vanishing of Mike Wheeler” post, where Mike follows Eddie’s voice into the hands of a waiting Henry, and I think this heavily plays into that. Mike desperately needs Eddie to be alive, not just because he’s a good friend, but Eddie was sort of a beacon of hope to Mike in the sense that he proved queer boys could thrive. If Eddie really is dead, what does that mean for Mike? He’s alone again. Even more so after having his romantic hope stomped on at the end of the season, once Will unintentionally revoked that belief of required feelings Mike had.
This is a lot of Eddie, but it all ties back to Dustin and Mike fighting over it. Dustin held Eddie in his arms as the life drained from his eyes, he’s gonna be pissed if Mike tries to make him think it wasn’t real. Dustin knows Eddie is dead. Dustin has always been able to believe Mike more easily than other people, they’ve grown especially close between S3 and S4, but Eddie died in Dustin’s arms. Mike is gonna refute Eddie’s death and it’s not gonna go over well with Dustin.
Losing the one friend he feels like he still has, who he can still be close with, is going to be coming back in Mike’s trance. Mike’s biggest fear has always been about losing the people he loves. Right now, Dustin is the only person Mike hasn’t lost in one way or another. When Mike pushes too far and loses Dustin too, that’ll be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.
Dustin is gonna be significant in Mike’s trance as a sort of staple that he really is alone. Dustin never gave up on him and yet he still ended up losing him. Everybody leaves Mike eventually, because no matter what Mike will never be good enough for the people he loves. He’s not even scraping by as good anymore. Dustin’s gonna hammer that insecurity in, making him truly believe he is completely, utterly alone.
Lucas; Normalcy
Lucas’ role is actually gonna be huge I think. A lot of Mike’s arc specifically regarding his sexuality outside of Will and El falls into Lucas’ hands because Lucas is representative of everything Mike wishes he were. Lucas is very similar to Mike (even if he doesn’t see these traits in himself); they’re both loyal, kind, stubborn, brave, etc. but Lucas is still what Mike strives for and we see that a lot in S3.
Even more so than just sexuality, because that was most of Mike’s attempt at normalcy in S3, we see Mike wanting to be like Lucas in other ways in S4. There’s a massive conflict between the two of them that runs deep, but during the cafeteria scene we see a sports book on the table, specifically one about how to become an athlete. This couldn’t be Lucas’ because he’s not eating with them. It’s pretty clear that none of the original Hellfire members are interested in any kind of sport, which only leaves Dustin and Mike. Why the hell would Dustin be reading about becoming an athlete? There’s no service to his character in that and there’s no previous indication of him wanting to play sports.
The book is Mike’s. Mike expresses his frustration with Lucas for joining the basketball team and choosing the championship game over Hellfire, yet we still see him showing some form of longing for the things Lucas has. By S4, Mike has accepted his sexuality and that he cannot change it (even if he has conflicted feelings about it) and that is heavily intertwined to him returning to being a freak by joining Hellfire, but Mike still thinks about what it would be like to be like Lucas. Mike finds light in Hellfire, a place where he can be unashamed of his passion for DND and where he doesn’t have to repress his sexuality (thank Eddie for that one). Part of him, however, still searches in the dark. There’s a temptation to return to that darkness, the one he hid in during S3, and that temptation comes from seeing Lucas manage to find light in the things that are nothing but darkness for Mike. I think Mike sometimes wonders if he can find light in that darkness, too. I think Mike gets kept up at night wondering if he had just kept pushing, kept trying to be normal, if he would have ended up like Lucas somehow. I think he wonders if there’s an even brighter light that he’ll only find by suffering through the darkness first.
Mike doesn’t understand that Lucas was never really doing all the basketball and popularity stuff because it made him happy, but rather out of necessity. Mike and Lucas’ worlds are both incredibly different, but neither sees that about the other. That’s part of what brings about their conflict. If Mike went the way Lucas did, things wouldn’t have ended well. They didn’t end well for Lucas. Lucas’ arc ends with him learning that he never wanted to be like the people he was surrounding himself with. Mike, however, is completely unaware of all this. Mike and Lucas have barely spoken since their fight, where Lucas was still fully on board with being normal — that being normal was better for all of them than being nerds and freaks. Mike doesn’t know anything about what happened with the basketball team. What happened with Jason. To Mike, Lucas is still the peak example of success through normalcy.
Part of Mike still wants to be normal. Mike needed Hellfire, desperately so, but it wasn’t enough. Mike had a space to start being himself, but Hellfire wasn’t a place for Mike. It was a place for freaks, nothing more and nothing less. Eddie didn’t open his arms to Mike on account of Mike being himself, but rather another freak in need of a place to be a bit of a freak. Hellfire successfully gave Mike a place to play DND and start accepting his sexuality (both heavily involved in his arc with Will) but Mike’s internal conflict doesn’t start nor end with who he’s attracted to. Mike has a huge problem in believing he, himself, is good enough. Hellfire gave Mike a place to accept his freakishness, but Mike is more than just a freak. Hellfire isn’t enough. There’s still something missing for Mike, and it’s something Hellfire can’t solve.
Lucas plays into Mike’s trance by being the epitome of everything Mike wishes he were. Lucas has everything Mike feels he lacks, especially in S4. If Mike were normal, if Mike weren’t gay and if he were a better person, maybe he could’ve been like Lucas.
Most likely, I think we’re gonna get some kind of scene where Lucas rejects Mike for his sexuality. He rejects Mike for not being normal, for not being good at sports and for liking boys and for being weak. Mike feels like he’s nothing special at all, and Lucas is only gonna serve to rub it in that Mike is right.
His Parents; Shame Over Emotions
This one is a little self explanatory, to be honest. Karen and Ted have set a lot of expectations for Mike that are more or less impossible to meet. They have set him up with the expectation of perfect emotional independence and control from a young age and they’re often very critical of a lot of his behavior.
Ted has never been there for any of his kids. He’s never even bothered to try. All he adds to Mike’s life is disapproval and critique. Unless Mike is doing something Ted doesn’t like, Ted is totally absent in anything beyond being a money maker. He’s always nitpicking Mike’s emotions. He’s not supposed to care so much about Will in S1, he’s not supposed to react so strongly to everything that happened and act out in S2 (Ted literally implies he should be getting kicked out for this with the whole “if it was my coach, you would be getting kicked off the team” thing), he gets no critique in S3, and he’s judged by Ted in S4 for his passion for DND. The only thing he’s ever seemed to approve of is Mike having a girlfriend. Otherwise, he’s just constantly telling Mike to be less emotional about everything. He’s setting the expectation of emotional control and apathy, just like Ted himself.
Karen, on the other hand, sets a certain expects of emotional independence. The best example of this is when she tells Ted to wait for Mike to come to them after Will’s body is found. Karen does offer support sometimes, through things like open arms and offering to get Mike any movie he wants when he’s supposedly too sad to go to school. The times she chooses to support him, though, set an expectation; he’s only meant to lean on others when he’s at his absolute worst. Even then, Mike is never allowed to open up about what he’s feeling. Karen offers minimal comfort to fulfill her need to be a good parent but it doesn’t let Mike feel as though he can reach out to other people. He’s expected to reach out to others, but when he does we don’t see any real depth to those conversations (except for with Will). Mike is expected to be mature and independent enough to be the one to reach out at twelve years old. He’s expected to be able to handle himself entirely when he’s not hitting rock bottom, and then Karen expects him to reach out when he does despite never really giving him good reason to do so.
Karen and Ted don’t set many surface level expectations with Mike. They aren’t involved enough in his life to really care about whether or not he plays sports or gets good grades. They do, however, expect Mike to be able to fill in the emotional void they’ve left entirely on his own. They expect him to be able to function entirely on his own and have perfect emotional intelligence. Ted encourages him to be apathetic, but Mike is anything but. He’s filled with love and care and anger and grief but he’s expected not to feel any of it at all. Karen doesn’t help by only supporting him when he’s at his lowest of lows.
In his trance, I wouldn’t be shocked if his memories switched to his parents after something incredibly emotional where they’d treat him as though he’s overreacting to it all. It’d really be a great way to showcase how Mike is very rarely allowed to express his emotions as they truly are, and we see him reign himself back several times throughout the show when he realizes he’s putting too much care into something and people are getting frustrated with him for it. It explains why he suddenly seems apathetic when the reality is that he cares so much that he gets shamed for it.
El; Lies
This one doesn’t need a ton of explanation. One of Mike’s core values established in the very first episodes of the show is that friends shouldn’t lie to each other. He holds himself and people around him to that same standard for a long time, and we see people adopt it and hold themselves to it too through the party, but especially El and Will.
His entire relationship with El has forced him to lie. Initially, he hadn’t been lying because he did want to be in a relationship with El as he hoped it would fix him (though we do see him use small lies to get out of hanging out with El without blowing his straight boy act). By the time the ending of S3 comes around, Mike has realized that his feelings for boys, for Will, can’t change no matter how hard he tries to fix himself. El kissed him, but they had been broken up for four months and in that time Mike had grieved the loss of Will (again) and met Eddie. Mike’s accepted his sexuality, but that doesn’t mean he’s ready to be open about it. At that point, he may not even like it (though by the start of S4 he does seem to be letting himself indulge in his attraction to guys beyond Will). He’s not ready to come out, and in his mind there’s no way to easily explain to El why he doesn’t want to be together without losing her entirely. So he goes with it. He starts lying.
Mike’s relationship with El after the S3 ending is a huge culmination of Mike conflicting with himself about lying. Contrary to his actions, he actually doesn’t like lying. He doesn’t want to lie to El, but also it’s impossible to be on this relationship with her without doing so. For so long he’s been lying to one of the people he cares about the most, and by the time he gets tranced El will most likely have broken up with him, revealing that his lies throughout all of this were for nothing and he’ll feel like he lost her anyway.
Mike feels plenty of guilt about lying. Even more so, he still wasn’t good enough even when he lied. Even doing the thing he hates he isn’t good enough. In the end, no matter how hard he tried to be enough for El, be the boy she wanted, he couldn’t do it. Lying caused him to lose El. He’s never good enough.
Nancy; Being Unloved
Nancy Wheeler… I have such a love/hate relationship with her specifically because of this.
Nancy is being given emphasis through her lack of presence in many ways. Over the course of the seasons, Nancy has grown more and more distant from Mike and Mike no longer feels cared about by her the way he used to. This post shows how S4 really hammers that fact in. Her lack of any sort of displayed care towards him throughout all of S4 is incredibly important and also a huge contrast to her behavior in S1.
Do I think Nancy cares about Mike? Of course I do. She does care about him. That doesn’t mean Mike feels as though she does, and that doesn’t mean she’s showing him she cares. Like at all. Every interaction they had in S4 showed Nancy as somehow annoyed or making fun of him. She was frustrated when he wasn’t dressed, seethed at Mike suggesting she join them for DND, and talked about how Mike’s room has looked worse than Hopper’s cabin. Mike doesn’t see her reaction to her vision and she gives him no indication of being worried about him upon his return. We have no reason to believe their relationship is anything different outside of what we’re being shown, and we’ve seen their relationship devolve with each season. This behavior in S4 isn’t even that new! Nancy was only barely more considerate towards him in S3.
Nancy, more than anyone else, is being shown as the absence in Mike’s life. She is missing from those core reconciliation scenes. Nancy’s love is absent in Mike’s life entirely at this point and she’s only shown to express negative feelings towards him (when he’s around).
This really isn’t hard to tie into Mike’s trance.
Everything I’ve been talking about this far contributes to this fear that Mike just… doesn’t deserve to be loved. There’s so many things he feels are wrong with him, so many things he’s destroyed. It’s an easy recipe to believe he doesn’t deserve to be loved. That people can see all the things he hates about himself and hate him for it too. Nancy is the peak example of this in S4. We don’t see any love or care expressed towards Mike that he’s made aware of and he only witnesses her frustration or the way she points out his inability to keep his room clean. Nancy used to dress up for his campaigns but now she seethes at Mike even asking her to join. Nancy used to make sure Mike was ok, even chaperoned his middle school dance, and now she doesn’t acknowledge him after he’s been missing for a week even though she was clearly worried about Jonathan. Sometime between the start of all this and now, it’s not hard to believe that Mike thinks his sister has grown to hate him no matter how far from the truth that is. Nancy doesn’t show care like she used to, and Mike is going to blame himself for that.
Will
Now, I find it nearly impossible to assign Will a role in revealing a specific part of Mike that’s been hidden from us. He’s his own category! So much of what has been hidden from us has been about Mike’s feelings for Will specifically.
There’s so many things that could happen with Mike’s feelings for Will, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Will came up as a topic multiple times and we were just given insight into things we weren’t before. Things like missing reactions throughout the show will come in to fill the gaps. We’ll probably get some sort of false confession from Will turned dark, or Will confronting Mike and telling him that he’d never feel the same for someone who’s hurt him so much.
What the trance serves to do is give us perspective on why Mike acts the way he does and give us the missing pieces, but pretty much every season except S3 has had Mike’s plot almost entirely revolves around Will. There is so much missing perspective from Mike’s relationship with Will because we have seen infinitely more of their dynamic without any of Mike’s perspective and because Will plays such a huge role in Mike’s storylines.
Will, on his own, is one of Mike’s greatest strengths and his greatest weaknesses. Everything that I’ve listed so far is something that plays heavily into Mike’s relationship with Will. Those pieces that are being given to us through other characters are filling in Mike’s story, and a ton of Mike’s story is about or includes Will, much more than any other character. When we get Will playing into Mike’s trance, it’ll probably mostly be the things we expect to see. All these missing pieces are gonna be used to fill in Mike’s story with Will in one way or another, so all these fears and insecurities I’ve listed will probably somehow end up getting looped back to Will. Will is vital to every aspect of Mike’s trance. I can’t categorize Will and give an accurate idea of what’ll happen because he’s gonna be everywhere. He’s built into every aspect of Mike’s being, therefore he’s built into the trance’s core.
Final Scene
Okay, so this past does come from the Overkill album and I discuss evidence in that original post, so here’s just a description of what my ideal final scene for Mike’s trance would be.
He’s back at the cliff. He’s spent the last unknown but ungodly long stretch of time completely alone being taunted and more or less psychologically tortured. He’s tried to wait for the music from his friends to save him, but it never came. He’s been left behind and he understands why, seeing as what all these depictions have been confirming for him. So he’s back at the cliff, ready to finally give up. Nobody is coming for him. Nobody is here to tell him to jump or make him stop. This is entirely his own choice, his own want to just let it end.
The toes of his shoes are barely over the very edge of the cliff when music starts echoing from all around him and a portal finally, finally opens. His friends are waiting for him on the other side, holding off Henry. They’re finally here. At this point, though, Mike isn’t even sure if it’s worth going back. He’s at this cliff for a reason. It’s been hammered in over and over why he deserves this. He almost wants this, wants to finally be free from it all.
His friends are screaming his name on the other side and he can’t move. God, he misses his friends. He misses Dustin and Lucas and El and he misses his family and he misses Will. After all of this, though, he doesn’t think he deserves to go back. But they’re calling for him. They want him to come home. They didn’t forget him, they came back.
Mike turns and runs towards the portal, choosing for himself to live. Right now, he’s choosing to live and come back to everyone. They came for him. It’s unbelievable, but they came for him.
This isn’t necessarily a resolution to Mike’s suicidiality more than it’s reinforcing that Mike is very suicidal, that he would jump off that cliff Dustin or no Dustin. He does have a reason to live, and it’s for the people he loves. In that same vein, he’s also willing to die for them. His care for his own life isn’t very strong, and he hasn’t yet discovered his own self worth, which could very well lead to a sacrifice to save one of them.
I think it’d 1. be so captivating and insane to watch and 2. reinforce the state of Mike’s mental health before he returns back to the real world and we’re no longer diving into the deepest depths of his mind when he does things.
anyway, hope all that was good enough!! love you based anon <3
