LMAO at not wanting Jon to be "special" God forbid he be anything besides Sansa's love interest huh? And you guys are always so confused on why you get so much push back on your ship
hi! wow my first ever angry anon. i’ve been on tumblr for, oh goodness, coming up on a decade soon. thank you, anon. you’ve finally made my tumblr experience complete.
as far as jon being special in a magical sense, i think he certainly is. i just don’t think that’s because he is rhaegar’s son. i think it’s because he is lyanna’s son. i don’t want rhaegar’s choice to abandon his wife and children to knock up a teenager for the purposes of a prophecy to turn out to have any justification. and if jon really is the fulfillment of the prophecy, then that would mean rhaegar was right. i am very invested in rhaegar not being right.
jon gets really cool wolf magic from his mom’s side, and he’s definitely going to play a part in resolving the issue with the others, an issue which likely has its origins back in the early days of house stark. it probably needs to be starks like bran and jon who figure out what is going on with the others and fix the situation. i don’t think it’s going to be something as simple as “stab one of them and it’s over.” lol
jon is certainly also special because of the incredible adaptability he has shown during his time at the wall. his ability to see beyond ancient prejudices and conceptualize the freefolk as allies speaks to his empathy and his innovation. i believe much of the rest of his story will focus on the political plotlines—retaking winterfell, uniting the north, finding more allies in the war for the dawn. he’s going to put everything he learned to good use.
but none of those things require him to be rhaegar’s son. only lyanna’s. lol get fucked rhaegar

ok now I need to know about your lannister oc and her targaryen sons uwu
yes siree!!!!
Tumblr media
get used to her because despite my boltonposting shes the only one ive been putting in any sort of work writing for . <3
her name is myrielle lannister :-) she's around during the dunk and egg era born aboutttt 192 ac ..? daughter of damon lannister and cerissa brax (one year younger than tybolt and one year older than gerold) - she's honestly just kind of awful sorry . spoiled and vain and selfish like a high school mean girl who goes to nursing school but if you put her in the place of the only daughter of an unbelievably wealthy medieval lord that's given her anything she could ever ask for . while tybolt is heir and the golden boy myrielle ends up being the favourite exclusively off the idea of being a good daughter who smiles politely and sits and looks pretty when they're meeting with this lord or the other . she has a pretty strained relationship with tybolt when they're younger but when they get past being 10 and insulting your sibling over every little thing they end up being really close .
her relationship with gerold on the other hand iiiis . weird . i think they're a little bit too similar in that they like to plot and scheme a little bit and she never really knows what to make of him . they're kind of at odds and while she always has some sense of loyalty to him by virtue of them being family she's never very fond of him, especially after tybolt and his daughter die (which she'd probably believe he's got some hand in).
Tumblr media
when you really get into it grrm is notably not very good at telling us exactly what year things happen in this part of the timeline nor is he very in depth with a lot of these targs so a lot of this is going to be headcanon + assumptions etc don't get mad if you're the number one dunk and egg lorehead...
when she's 11 years old she goes to king's landing with tybolt and their father and she ends up engaged to aerion targaryen - which neither of them are suuuper enthused by . aerion because he's a little bit of a child emperor esque horrorshow of a son that holds fast to the idea of the targ legacy and traditions and from what we know about him he'd prefer to marry a sister. myrielle on the other hand finds herself at court and very quickly realizes that She wants to be important and She wants to be special and She wants to be queen so she has a bit of a period where she resents aerion for being a second son of a fourth son (!) and kind of goes well i shouldve married valarr or matarys or even daeron more out of a childish belief that she's owed something that stems from being raised the way she was. her and aerion end up bickering a lot but eventually settle into some kind of acceptance and eventually a fondness for each other in the way only two freaks of nature can . <3
at court she meets odessa dayne (oc + art by chloe), who's betrothed to valarr - they become bestiesss and form a very weird very complicated vaguely homosexual relationship that i don't know how to summarize but i think in some way myrielle ends up wishing she could be odessa's husband . doesn't know how to put words to her feelings that are so different from what she should feel (attraction to a woman) that she ends up kind of taking on a role of makeshift caretaker in the way a husband would - especially when valarr dies later on and odessa is kind of left in the dust at court in favor of her son. myrielle in my mind of much much more fond of her than odessa is of her by virtue of being the kind of person who makes up a complex made up version of their relationship in her mind .
she marries aerion around 208 and instead of being sent off to lys in 209 after the tourney of ashford meadow he's kind of put on house arrest a bit - aerion, myrielle and odessa end up in dorne when the great spring sickness hits (odessa has family business and myrielle + aerion end up tagging along because they have nothing better to do) . valarr dies in 209 and myrielle's dad dies in 210 right before myrielle gives birth to twins anddd well i'll cut the timeline off there for now . sorry anon i could go on for way too long .
she has twin sons with aerion in 210, one of which like in canon aerion insists they name maegor (kid on the left in the first img) and to match she names the other aenys (kid on the right) . funny . by this time given that odessa had a surviving son with valarr she ends up becoming a bit jealous . my son/s should rule etc even if they're like number 234923 in line . raises them to be resentful and ambitious which works for aenys who becomes exactly like she wants but not maegor who ends up being very gentle and kind and trusting . get it.. its funny because theyre like their namesakes but reversed
when she gets a little older myrielle more actively pursues the idea of being queen because these targs just will not stop dying. by the time maekar becomes king she begins to make more and more attempts at convincing aerion to get rid of daeron in advance and really really pushes hard for him to consider himself heir and because he's kind of batshit it works . a strong sense of entitlement between the both of them and a belief that he'd do a better job than daeron when the time comes (very doubtful).
errr.. well in an ideal world in her mind they kill daeron and maekar dies and aerion is crowned after which she also ends up killing him when she gets sick of him or he gets a little older and less nice to look at and one of their sons gets the throne. errr . of course it doesn't end that well . but that's about what i have so far we'll get more in depth one day . <3

Thoughts on Jon Snow as a character? He's my fav so far
I like him!
He didn't start out as a character I felt especially drawn to. I mostly pitied him, especially in ASOS, and he's very dour if that surface level dramatic melancholia and dry resignation isn't your cup of tea. I never hated him, but... he was just sort of there. And every projection for his future plot I found while casually perusing the fandom was bland. Secret Targ, okay. What's the point of that, then? Connecting the Wall plot to the dragons? Grand Tragic Secret Heir and Grand Dramatic Dragon Queen Do Grand Dramatic Tragic Destiny stuff dramatically? Zzzzzzzzz.
After delving into the theory of Jonsa, I obviously engaged more with the character, and I have grown very fond of him. Lots is lurking under the surface that I had never paid attention to in depth.
And what I find the most crucial is that his story is at its heart so small and domestic and emotional. It's relatable for being ordinary at its heart. It's about healing and reconciling after a burdened childhood, finding out what you really want and discovering you can have it. Not in grand gesture but in self-worth and honesty.
The most engaging and the absolute hinge of his characterization is his attachment to his family, his home, and the North. Being a bastard prevents him from living this out and creates The Obstacle he chafes against. It causes him to strike out looking for Importance in adventure and glory, and he fails. And learns. But it is ultimately that deep love and attachment that truly guides him in everything he does. And that makes him actually extremely interesting as a character, because it shifts his arc away from being about Magic and Apocalyptic Drama as some abstract excuse for heroics, toward that of inner conflict. It's a small, very relatable story about longing for home, playing out on a big canvas for background. All Jon does during his adventures away from home, his frustration struggling with his compassion, his understanding of the world being wittled down to questions of basic ethics, it's all based on his understanding of himself as a Stark, serving the duties and values of a member of House Stark. To belong to his family and himself in his own heart, if he cannot belong otherwise. And it highlights why those popular speculations about him are so bland. They don't touch his core. Dragons? What do they have to do with House Stark and Winterfell and his pack? Nothing. They, too, ultimately represent an Obstacle between himself and his deepest desire of truly belonging in his home without reservation, by removing his paternal connection.
Except, it's replaced by the maternal connection. One that matters just as much. That has been nagging at him all this time. It actually cements his identity, rather than dismantling it. Not shameful burden but valued and protected. This, too, takes Jon out of the realm of Bland Male Heroics (Rhaegar's special destiny boy) toward a story of inner healing and equilibrium. It's self-acceptance. Very human. Very ordinary. Very powerful.
And as a special twist - and this is why Jonsa is so brilliant as a theory - his parentage is also the key to actually granting him those impossible secret wishes of replicating his childhood the right way through his own marriage and family. But only if he is worthy of this through his actions and choices, worthy of being loved and recognized as a metaphorical prince. He get's to be a fairytale princess, essentially, raised from humility to fulfillment. Because of who he is. Who he has chosen to be again and again, because of his fundamental love. Everything else, the heroics, the missteps and recoveries, is just window dressing. Exciting ways to tell a simple story.
His story doesn't work with a tragic ending of repeated exile. It's all building toward balance and peace. It's extremely moving.
I'm a big fan.

HOTD Modern AU where everyones dragons are some kind of reptile or amphibian.  Sooo, I finally gathered the courage to add my own stuff to the HOTD fandom, lol. I love reptiles, specifically Komodo dragons, I’ve made like 3 different college projects with them and it was impossible for me to not see Vhagar as one, I’ve seen other really good takes with old grandma V being a snapping turtle, an alligator and so on, and then I decided to imagine my own modern AU were all the Targaryan dragons in HOTD are some kind of reptile pet! -Because Targ shenanigans they do have a special bond with their reptile friend (Thats the only way you get a croc and a Komodo to dont eat you, lol). -The dragon keepers are a special reptile breeder company, the Targs are like one of their most important clients . -To add more lore and stuff I like the idea of them living in a made up european country called Valyria, like Genovia from the princess diaries, or at least just a modern westeros and Valyria being their something something big company where they work. -If they live in Valyria they do have the monarchy problems, but without the murder plis, Aegon ll its like fuck you all and runs away to Italy or France and starts a wine company called “The usurper” xD.  -Because I like Jacegon, Jace goes along with him so he doesn’t die from bad decisions and because I think he’ll be more reliable with the new company stuff hahahahaha, Aegon just tests the wine ok 😂?  -Lucerys its also like, the crown? No thanks, and goes to college to study literature, also in the some college as Aemond, who’s in a History major, they’re roommates 👀. -Joffrey its even less interested in the crown and decides to help his grampa Corlys with Driftmark. -I’m mexican, I dont know how Dukedoms and all that fancy european stuff works, Driftmark can be one of those or something, I’ll do some research after the reptile drawings ok xD? -That way the crown can go to little Aegon the younger without anybody dying yay. -Rhaenyra its not that ok with this, but she loves her kids, and hopes little Egg doesn’t run away too.... Im just starting with my favorite incest deranged couple, Lucemond 😚. I think its obvious this is not completed at all 😅, but I was really exited about it and wanted to talk about it after being working on it all day 😄.
More stuff about the not dragons! -They can’t live the hundreds of years of the dragons, so lets make them live as long as their owner lives, an average 80-90 years, for this HC sake hahahaha, specially because turtles, komodos and crocs are able to live long lives too! So lets make all the other special Targ reptiles/amphibians live longer too 😝. -This makes Grandma V, Vhagar ll, because Vhagar l was Visenya’s, when Laena dies in some kind of accident Aemond claims Vhagar ll so she doesn’t die, specially because she wasn’t that old then, wiki says Laena dies at 27, I havent thought that much about what happens in the Driftmart incident, but something happens 👀! -Then the Viserys l Balerion it’s Balerion ll too! Vissy T gets to keep his croc and makes him an awesome enclosure, lol. Alicent never goes there 😂, but Viserys likes to see when the servants feed him or to just chat with his friend, he has this really nice enclosure like in the zoos where you can go like underground and see them swim.
-Helaena’s kids can have little geckos or something cute like that, I need to think about it 🤔.
-Im not very sure about Caraxes being a red Tegu, they’re awesome, but I don’t know if I should make him be something else, any thoughs anyone 🤔? If you have any other ideas that are different from the ones I have so far let me know 😉!! The only ones that Im very sure about are Vhagar and Arrax, I’m really in love with the idea, and I also like them all being something different, except for Silverwing and Vermithor uwu.

Baela is an absolute ICON. Truly her father’s daughter. The fact that she was only 13 years old when she bravely fought a 23 years old Aegon II in a dragon duel. This act of courage saved her from being struck dead by an enemy lord after being gravely injured in said duel. And even as her dragon, Moondancer, fell from the sky, taking Sunfyre down with her, she didn’t dismount, unlike Aegon II, who did in fact jump off before both dragons hit the ground, ended up crippled for life by the twenty foot fall and lived the rest of his life in great pain. And Sunfyre would never fly again and eventually died from the wounds inflicted by Moondancer. Baela ended Sunfyre and almost killed Aegon II.
Yes, Baela seems to have similarly bold and self-possessed traits as Daemon. However (and this isn't an invective against you, anon), so does Rhaena. She's just as much Daemon's daughter as Baela. While it is true that Daemon's being their dad set up their feelings of power & autonomy/self-esteem because Daemon was actually more supportive of his daughters than most Westerosi lords, both women develop their personalities/boldness as their own without having it all come down to them being Daemon's daughters.
Rhaenyra also would have had a hefty hand in their development, and in their first few years, they still had Laena. women leading by example would have also inspired her to do as she does with her smallfolk friends/followers and her whipping the Peake follower as she and Rhaena both brought Daenaera to Aegon III, rescuing him and a lot of other people associated with them from anything Unwin Peake planned through marriage to his daughter Myrielle. Rhaena does this while recovering from a miscarriage while Baela was heavily pregnant. "Strength" in the physical sense can thus be argued to go for both girls, but still, for both, their "strength" is more how they shaped their communities or families' lives despite patriarchal attempts to limit their movements or decisions from ideologically gendered principles of female obedience and sexual "purity".
Baela "does more stuff" and does more starkly cool stuff than Rhaena (because she's more militaristic or does more stuff like these in a war context), but Rhaena is known as the very last dragonrider before Dany AND she managed to hatch said dragon (Morning) by herself after years of waiting. Other than it being narratively symbolic that the Targs get to "live another day" as rulers but also as survivors--contrasted to her brother Viserys II, managed to hatch her egg--it implies another sort of "strength" or a unique-to-her condition that is reminiscent and foreshadowing Daenerys' special bond with her dragons. Both are rejuvenating/rebirth and female-protection symbols/figures. And other Targs before her either bonded with the dragons in the cradle and didn't have to wait to bond or they had to bond with a more grown dragon anywhere from their preteens to young adulthood (12ish-19ish--and most bonded the latter way).
As for Aegon-Sunfyre, yes agreed. She was still badass. I mean, she ran and scaled a lot of the smooth-stoned castle walls--plus many building roofs--to get to Moondancer...that's insane agility, dexterity, and determination!
Tumblr media
("Rhaenyra Overthrown")
This was meant to answer a general fan applaud that usually characterizes Baela's personality as mainly coming from Daemon's being (as if Daemon passed down boldness to her passively), instead of the result of and a reflection of an emotionally invested/child-first/pro-women upbringing that wouldn't have just been Daemon's doing or responsibility.
After all, Daemon still has his own misogyny (the insults against Rhea Royce) WHILE he seemed to have loved his mother and has been most like Visenya in role and partial temperament.

It is explicitly stated that Rhaegar first thought himself to be the the prince that was promised, then Dany had a vision in which Rhaegar said his son Aegon was the prince that was promised and that a dragon had to have three heads and there must be one more. He had two children with Elia: Aegon and Rhaenys. The original dragon trio were Aegon, Rhaenys and Visenya. What's not clicking? Do these people even read? He thought he was the savior, then shifted to his son, then either 1) he wanted another sister for Aegon and went for Lyanna since Elia couldn't have more kids 2) thought the prince that was promised had to have both Stark and Targaryen ancestory (a song of ice and fire).
No, no they don’t read anon, because then how would they come up with ideas such as “there was no prophecy, it’s a fanon interpretation” and declare it with their whole chest? The same prophecy that is connected to one of the biggest plots, that is yet to be unveiled, and has had people in a frenzy for the past one and a half decades. A prophecy that was explicitly mentioned in affc
“Sam, we tremble on the cusp of half-remembered prophecies, of wonders and terrors that no man now living could hope to comprehend …”
Samwell IV, A Feast For Crows
“No one ever looked for a girl,” he said. “It was a prince that was promised, not a princess. Rhaegar, I thought … the smoke was from the fire that devoured Summerhall on the day of his birth, the salt from the tears shed for those who died. He shared my belief when he was young, but later he became persuaded that it was his own son who fulfilled the prophecy, for a comet had been seen above King’s Landing on the night Aegon was conceived, and Rhaegar was certain the bleeding star had to be a comet.”
Samwell V, A Feast For Crows
So what’s not clicking?
Can I also talk about how entitled and proud Rhaegar is to think the prophecy was about him and then definitely his son. Bro couldn’t fight to save his life but knew he was tptwp, and then went ahead and toppled a continent because of his ego. He ruined Elia and Lyanna’s lives, plunged the realm into a civil war, got his own house destroyed, KILLED HIS OWN CHILDREN and for what? To satisfy his own arrogance? For self-adulation and admiration? There is literally no greater cause here. How do you read a prophecy of all things, and think yup, this is 100% about me, I’m the chosen one, the special prince, who was talked about for centuries, the prophet, the one who’ll save lesser beings than myself from their doom, yup that’s me. Targ arrogance goes hard. Jfc.
There’s a lot of speculation about why Rhaeghar went after Lyanna. The whole “and his will be a song of ice and fire” does sort of fit as a reason Rhaegar would give himself for going after Lyanna, apart from the fact that he just found a gullible young girl at the tourney who had also done something that would bring her a lot of opprobrium (knight of the laughing tree) and saw his opportunity. Lyanna wanted a life of freedom, and Rhaegar promised it to her, and then took away everything from her, her family, her agency, and in the end her life, locked away in a tower. He did that because he could do that, and then give any reason for it because he’s the last heir to the Targaryen crown (at that time). But the other shoe did drop, there were consequences to his egregious actions, and the cocksure idiot hadn’t prepared for that.
Though as a reader, I would argue that the “ice” counterpart is not House Stark but rather the white walkers. The “ice” and “fire” analogues, for me, are the others and stannis and his red witch and the rhollor worshipers and, later, the targaryens with their dragons. I don’t think grrm (4:55) was referring to the starks as the ice because there are other northern houses as well, and would they be counted as the ice too? Anyway, it could be said that Rhaegar did either want another daughter (visenya) for the three heads of the dragon or had completely abandoned that idea by the time he met Lyanna, and decided that their son would be tptwp.
Either way, fuck rhaegar for all of eternity and then some.

you know, it doesn't help the fact that in the final op they show baby eren reaching to his father then to ymir or the fact that deep inside the attack titan there was ymir who always sought freedom signifying that eren was always meant to be the one who would free ymir ultimately, that eren was that somebody that ymir was waiting for only to then subvert it then make mikasa as the one who freed ymir like...
i don't think that to be the chosen one, you have to exactly parallel and ymir and eren do parallel in a way in which they were controlled and only used to do this and that, most of the time being disregarded for who they truly are, a human and most of the time being put in a pedestal, a god and humanity's hope. Eren is the total opposite of Ymir while she is passive and submissive, Eren is not, he's full of rage and hate and he does not back down without a fight regardless if the fight would come out fruitless, only the fact that he got to fight.
And in Ymir's belief, which I think is one of her main drives in serving Fritz is that she needs to EARN her freedom whereas Eren believes freedom is a RIGHT, it is something that is already granted to you the moment you were born to this world.
Eren is exactly what Ymir needed in that moment. I believe Ymir did wanted to rage at the world for everything.
Like, the rumbling isn't just an alternative for Paradis to be liberated and be safe, it is a personification of rage, human rage, it is misdirected, yes, there is no arguing that but it is rage.
And most would argue, it would deconstruct eren being not special and how that's okay that he isn't well, important and all that but it really isn't because this isn't a jon snow story book wise, in which it would be okay that jon isn't azor ahai nor is he the prince that was promised nor that he had targ blood in him because everything he got was done straight from the ground, no shortcuts.
but the thing is there was plenty of buildup for Eren and the way the narrative always veered away from him, always showed him losing in some way and how him being the ONE, how the final arc was now focused on eren and eren alone. It reminds people who is the main protagonist, reminds people why Attack On Titan is named from his titan.
And there was a price to pay indeed if he ever was the one, what bastard, what non special people, what second choice in aot ever won without paying a price? He killed thousands of innocent people and is deemed a monster, he would not attain his freedom in the end because if Ymir was freed, the power of the titans would cease to exist and the founding titan is what kept Eren alive the whole time.

So, I don't know about you, but that *targ prophecy* made my day.
I mean, they are no special for dreaming about a future cataclysm, that happened before with Daenys the Dreamer, and they just ran away from their country to settle in Dragonstone. They saved themselves and no one else.
But since they thought themselves special and above ordinary men and closer to gods, they believe they dreamed about the Long Night because they were destined to be the heroes and saviors. "If there is an Ice threat, we will defeated it because we are Fire" or something like that....
But also, the Last Hero and the Children of the Forest are right there!!! They are *legends* from 8000 years ago or even before. And we all know about that from Bran Stark's chapters.
The *ordinary* men of Westeros defeated the Long Night in ancient times and they did that without any *special* Targaryen or dragon.
So a dream of Aegon just from 300 years ago, it's nothing but a new warning, a warning that they keep to themselves, because *of course* they needed to be the only heroes.
In contrast, "Winter is Coming" is right there!!! Right in the open as a perpetual warning, as is the fucking Wall that was built by Brandon the Builder, and not a secret of a single family that believe themselves the grand heroes, and did almost nothing to prevent the future extinction. Instead of that, during their certainly short reign, they conquered, killed and burned the realms of men or simply killed each other and their dragons for an ugly chair, made from the weapons of all their killed enemies...
They really dreamed about one threat and thought themselves the saviors when in reality they were the second threat.
A Song of Ice and Fire always meant a clash, not some romance.
And even in the show(s) canon, they showed a Stark, a Lord of Winterfell, in the middle of a targ king passing the secret to his heir, and we watch said king talking about unifying the kingdom and touching certain dagger.
Well, Jon Snow did that, he started to spread the word about the Ice threat and asked help of all the Houses of Westeros, friends or foes.
And that dagger was the one they tried to kill Bran with, the same dagger that Arya Stark stuck in the Night King's heart.
And please let's not forget about what George always say, prophecies are dangerous and misleading.
Having said that, I wish you all a nice Sunday!

I'm not being rude or evasive and if so, forgive me. I just have this doubt: why don't you illustrate baela with black skin like in the HBO series?
I'll tag the artist, @aifsaath in on this too, in case I'm speaking out of turn, but it is indeed something that we definitely discussed when we decided make this fic happen.
The simple answer is that we're writing from the book canon, and we went with book descriptions when possible, including their coloring and their body types. Of course, whenever there's an adaptation, the actors portrayed in the show are going to be the ones who first pop into people's minds, regardless of whether the fic is set in the book canon or the show canon, and that's fine! In fact, my first long-fic is based more on the show-verse, and I described that Baela as she appears on the show, with curly silver hair and brown skin. To me, they're different canons and there are legit reasons to choose one or the other, or to mix them up. For this fic we wanted to stick to one consistent canon rather than mixing and matching, and since the majority of the events that happen in this fic have not been depicted on the show yet, and won't for many years to come, we decided to go with Fire and Blood. Less simple answer below the cut.
Here's the more complicated answer. While the show chooses not to focus too heavily on this aspect of the world building, the Valyrians are racial supremacists. They believe in blood purity and consider themselves to be better than non-Valyrians. The Targaryen dynasty in particular has built a whole mythos around Targaryen exceptionalism based on their special blood, but the blood is shown time and again to not actually be all that special. It's a lie, like white supremacy itself is a lie. Targaryens can't get sick, until they do. Only those with Targaryen blood can ride dragons, until Nettles comes along. Targaryens must marry their brothers and sisters, and nothing bad will come of this because they are a special exception, but it literally ruins multiple people's lives and causes at least one massive war. The Valyrians weren't special chosen ones, they were slavers, eugenicists, they practiced blood magic (heavily implied to involve human sacrifice), and their hubris led to their doom. And while it's kind of heavy handed, it's not coincidental that GRRM made these folks pale haired and pale skinned and made them obsessed with preserving Targaryen purity. OFCIR is critical of this, and we did not think it was a great idea to make George's fantasy version of white supremacists into POC since they are blood supremacists in our fic, something the show waters down a lot, at least so far. George has actually said that he once had the idea of making ALL of the Valyrians Black, as a kind of uno-reverse on white supremacy, but realized that would probably be a bad look and scrapped the idea.
Some fans are also very attached to the idea of the special blood actually being special. Online I've already seen people arguing that Nettles, who was written in the books as a Black woman, could simply be of Velaryon blood (nevermind that the Velaryons were not dragonriders by blood, Addam Velaryon rides a dragon, probably due to centuries of Velaryon mixing with the Targs), when in Fire and Blood it is heavily implied that Nettles tamed a dragon the good old fashioned way (by feeding it!) rather than bonding to one by blood. And when Rhaenyra believes Nettles is fooling around with Daemon, she throws around insults that imply Nettles' blood is impure, calling her "common," saying Daemon would never lie with such a "low creature," and finally accuses her of sorcery to tame her dragon, saying, "you only have to look at her to know she doesn't have a drop of dragon blood in her." Hair and eye color alone can't be what she's talking about either, because book!Rhaenys has dark hair, and Rhaenyra's own sons are brown haired and brown eyed. And while I have no doubt that the show will likely change this storyline significantly, we are using book canon. For what it's worth, I think it's significant that the one canonically Black dragonrider is the one who does not get her dragonriding skills from her "pure" Valyrian blood, but through skill and perseverance. It's a deconstruction of racial supremacy, but it doesn't work if she is simply another hidden Valyrian.
But you might have noticed the art gives Aegon a more golden skin tone, and that's because his mixed heritage is a part of his story. And although later on some Hightowers are described as having light blonde hair (possibly because Rhaena marries into the bloodline), Oldtown is very close to Dorne, and the southern part of the Reach is closest to the Summer Isles of any part of the realm. Oldtown is this major trading port, with people coming in and out from all over the world for thousands of years. Oldtown has a history of being a center of trade for a lot longer than King's Landing has, so we imagine the southern Reach as being as pretty diverse place, a bit like the Mediterranean in our world. It's fair to say you'd have Reacher families with a wide variety of skin tones, which is why you see that in @aifsaath's drawings of Aegon, and in our descriptions, he is indeed darker than Baela.

I saw your targaryens being terrible rulers post and i loved it. Do u have any unpopular stark rulers? I for one don't think cregan was that special, not a fan of him being on team rhaenyra (i just don't get why he was so loyal to her or jace, didn't jace ask for attacking kingslanding via dragons in the books?)
Anyways, ❤️ your posts.
Thank you for liking my posts; I’m glad they were able to give some information and maybe a little entertainment. Unlike the Targs, the historical Starks don’t really get a lot of page time, so it’s hard to say who did what or when especially during the Kings of Winter era. Some dishonorable mentions:
Rickard “the Laughing Wolf” Stark, who took the Neck (previously a region that kept to itself and allied with the other northerners to repel invaders) from the last Marsh King and forcibly married his daughter (if it had been a peaceful marriage alliance, that would’ve been mentioned)
All the Starks that ruled during “the Worthless War” for 1000 years, that cost thousands of lives for a region they eventually lost interest in. Special dishonorable mention is to whoever instigated the Rape of the Three Sisters (wiki said possibly Theon the Hungry Wolf), which seemed to involve indiscriminate slaughter of civilians and mass executions
Brandon “the Burner” Stark, for burning all the shipyards because his dad disappeared. The north hasn’t had strength at sea since, even though there were Essosi pirate raids from the east, ironborn raids from the west, and wildling raids from the north
Cregan Stark, for executing war criminals yet marrying one himself (cuz she smells like woodsmoke not flowers! Never mind she was burning smallfolk lands), for putting an end to a succession crisis due to bad family planning yet starting one due to marrying 3 times and siring 10 kids, then not naming a definite heir when his oldest son predeceased him
Some people talk about how House Stark is going through a redemption arc for what it’s rulers had done to others. And yes, there were several Starks who seemingly committed atrocities in the name of conquest, and others who aligned themselves with criminals for their own benefit, and still others who committed fatal mistakes not in the interest of their subjects. Even if they are the protagonist house, they aren’t and have never been perfect.

One of my concerns about the Snow sequel in addition to the stuff that you and others have mentioned is whether the writers try to lean into the "Jon is the real hidden heir to the IT and he supported his brother Bran as a king instead because he's such a Great Guy (tm)" because there is literally no way that he would be in line to the IT because he is not legitimate and this leads me to one of the most egregious plot points from the show - R annulling his marriage to E. There is literally no way in the medieval feudal universe GRRM has set up that an annulment of a royal marriage which was consummated and produced two trueborn children can be a thing (D&D truly deserve to be tarred and feathered for the absolute disrespect to E and her children for this plot point). I see others agree that the annulment (and subsequent marriage to L would never be valid) and then say "but there is a precedent for taking multiple wives so maybe that's what will happen in the books" but is there? The only "precedent" was Aegon the Conqueror from 300 years before R's time and Meagor the universally hated king which was the catalyst for outlawing poly-marriages in the first place lmao. Do I think in R's pea sized brain he thought he was above the law and could have a poly-marriage? Maybe. Sure. But if the main players all survived (R, E, and L) literally no one in Westeros would see any potential annulment or poly marriage as valid and Jon would be a bastard. Not a Stark bastard, but a Targ bastard. Also, Dorne would have initiated an actual rebellion for breaking an arranged royal marriage and for the complete disrespect toward a Princess of Dorne. The ONLY way Jon could have been legitimate is if R took L as a mistress and then the King legitimized whatever children their affair produced - that obviously never happened. I REALLY hope GRRM doesn't lean into some poly-marriage or worse some BS "annulment" because it would be just so disgusting to do to E and her children on top of it not making sense based on the Westerosi rules of society.
Oh, and additionally to my very long (lol) ask about the legitimacy of Jon. D&D giving Show!Jon Aegon's name, part of his identity, his legitimacy as the actual heir, and parts of his storyline was also disgusting. I absolutely hate when people refer to Jon as Aegon because it's so degrading toward E and her trueborn son. D&D truly deserve the worst for how much they disrespected the Dornish characters on the show.
Based on the fact that HBO kinda...ignored how the long night went/how GoT ended so that they could celebrate Targ specialness via the prophecy in HOTD, and seeing how Kit recently mentioned he thought Jon should have been king (he used to name other Starks), your fears are kinda warranted? Usually an actor's opinion doesn't indicate much about where a show might go, but the sequel is Kit's baby, he is the one who is making it happen, his people are working on it, so...I think his feelings are more relevant than normal. And, we really don’t know how much of his thinking on the characters/the world has been shaped by D&D’s version or if he’s gonna depart from that for another version, and if that version would be one closer to Martin’s vision or further afield. We really don’t know, and since I’m someone who genuinely thought, “oh shit, they are raising Dany from the dead and making a worse version of s7-8” upon hearing about the sequel, I’m not gonna alleviate any fears!
I agree that Rhaegar is a disgusting, that an annulment would be horrible and unlikely. Unfortunately, I can see a lot of reasons why Martin would have Rhaegar “marry” Lyanna. As you said,
Do I think in R's pea sized brain he thought he was above the law and could have a poly-marriage? Maybe. Sure.
I don’t know that it matters that his plan was horrible, we already know his actions are insufferably offensive and idiotic. I mean, knowing his father wasn’t fit to rule and not focusing on that as the pressing problem and instead pursuing a teenager? Crowning Lyanna in front of everyone? Running away with or kidnapping her? Imprisoning her in Dorne? Going to war even after his father brutally murdered the father/brother of the girl he abducted/ran off with? This guy’s foresight/moral compass/problem solving mechanisms were nonexistent. Something being a stupid idea, guaranteed to end horribly does not mean he didn’t do it, or that he would be deterred from a course of action by seeing the fallout, unfortunately.
I think there are a number of things that happened in GoT that were a variation on what Martin told D&D, since then he’s said he’s diverging more than he expected, so perhaps we worry for nothing, but I am not convinced Martin wont have Rhaegar do as you suggest, not annulment, but take a second wife. Stumpy’s reread has been tracking evidence for true born vs Targ bastard for Jon, and I think either version is still on the table. My personal feeling is that the first story we got about Rhaegar is not ultimately going to be the truth, simply because Martin’s whole shades of grey thing. Obviously, my feelings about Rhaegar aren’t gonna change no matter what is revealed in TWOW, but Martin seems to want everything to be complex, lots of layers, nothing too one-note. We now know the prophecy which undermines R/L strictly as some star crossed lovers story which was the other extreme people went to, and that to me indicates we are getting a mix of motivations/ a complex truth.
I assumed Jon was trueborn because a lot of what many have pointed to as R+L=J clues that center on the word “king”
"Likely they were too shy to come out," Ned jested. He could feel the chill coming up the stairs, a cold breath from deep within the earth. "Kings are a rare sight in the north."
Robert snorted. "More likely they were hiding under the snow. Snow, Ned!" The king put one hand on the wall to steady himself as they descended.
(AGOT, Eddard I)
Obviously, now knowing that Robb and Bran become kings, this is a really fun line, but to me, it is undoubtedly a R+L=J hint. We might argue that it is KitN foreshadowing for Jon, not about his parentage, it is the name however that makes me think this is about being Rhaegar’s son, “hiding under the snow. Snow--” Ned claimed Jon as his bastard --snow-- to protect him, so while we can read it about our Stark boys becoming kings, I think Martin wrote it thinking of Jon as a Targaryen heir. Maybe that changed? He keeps up with the king stuff throughout the series and a lot of that is more easily seen as KitN hints, so maybe? 🤷🏻‍♀️
I also like to think about what Martin would want to write, he loves grief and inner turmoil, so I would think that he would like the idea of writing Jon struggling with the option of becoming a legitimized Stark and then the temptation of being a legitimized Targ simply because while parentage reveal alone is a bombshell, being an heir/potential king plays forward story/plot wise and offers that whole heart in conflict with itself. Whether it’s something the rest of Westeros would acknowledge or not, I’m not sure that’s the purpose? To me, the idea of Jon finding out he is not a bastard, only to choose it, to choose to be known as one, for the greater good is meaningful, to not be forced to bear undeserved shame but choose it for love of the Starks, that could be written in a beautiful way.
On the other hand, the fact that D&D gave Jon the name Aegon def makes it seem like they potentially took book Aegon’s heir status/the people loving him more than Dany and assigned it to show Jon, that would explain why Jon had no importance in the political endgame in the show, maybe R+L=J wont impact the politics in the books. I’ve read great meta arguing for and against, but I could just as easily see them being so consumed with Dany saying “wtf do we have two nephews/two heirs for?” and conflating them for that reason, without thinking much more about it. But, it seems to me that Martin might want to use the three Targs to create those nuances that D&D steamrolled. As in, Dany embraces her Targ identity/fire & blood, Aegon embraces Targ identity but will reject fire & blood, Jon will reject both the identity and fire&blood. To me, part of the benefit of introducing Aegon is to allow some middle ground with the Targs? It might allow for a more interesting discussion on what must be done with a legacy such as theirs? It’s a conversation that doesn’t really happen with only Jon and Dany (extremes) or only Dany and Aegon. I would also think a lot depends on the ending Martin has in store for Jon. If he is trueborn, I’d think that points at an Aemon-like ending. Being a Targ bastard would allow for a much happier ending for him imo.
I’ve said before that I have an (irrational?) hatred for Rhaegar, so I am on your side with all the concerns, but I’m just...well, I’m not convinced that any of what happens with the Targs is gonna be as clear-cut as we might want. I’m bracing myself for messy, not nice.

Yippee time for some oc headcanons because its my enrichment time <3
Vaelora!!!
- Her favourite flowers to plant are poppies because they got that sweet sweet opium in em, but she’s also kinda fond of em just cause they’re pretty
- Has probably been gifted a few masks to hide her weird birthmark (phantom of the operacoded), usually refuses to wear them out of discomfort but sometimes caves and wears them to big events she’s required to go to
- She was given Nightshade’s egg as a baby, honestly didn’t expect it to ever hatch but surprise! It did when she was like, in her 20’s or so, she probably got to ride her dragon once before kicking the bucket
- Has gone into the cranberry bog. Only once though
- She was definitely married at some point because she has Aeryn (and ol Jae probably wouldn’t be letting her go outside ever if she had a bastard *cough* Gael *cough*), but ngl her husband is…. Kinda unimportant, to me, so I just headcanon him as being a Crabb that died when their son was a baby
- She maybe probably definitely poisoned her husband but don’t worry about that
- Loves Aeryn because he’s her sweet special little quiet boy but has very much fed him a lot of fucked up homemade versions of sweetsleep and milk of the poppy, and probably tried even more fucked up medicines whenever he got sick
- It’s okay though! He survived! Mostly
- Has probably a dozen notebooks on her plant research, some of it is definitively about the trials she did on animals and other plants cause she definitely wasn’t sharing the human tests until after she died
- She absolutely has a shitty relationship with her parents which didn’t help her godawful reputation- but Jae and Aly didn’t really like… Do anything abt her weirdness, mostly because she didn’t step out of line until the witch rumours started popping up
- Was probably a bit mad when Rhaenys got passed over for Baelon. Not because of any legitimate reason she just hates her loudass older brother and his dumbass kids
- Not normal about any of her siblings tbh. Girl’s relationships were crazyyy
- She’s half blind in one eye. Nobody really knows why cause her birthmark doesn’t really hurt or anything so that’s kinda unique ig
- Grew weed in Aegon’s garden. Totally medicinal she totally wasn’t smoking blunts guys I promiseeeee
Naera
- loveddd a lot of physical activities. horseback riding and hawking queen <3
- Was proud to be a targ to like, an obnoxious degree. Definitely wore a lot of dragon imagery on her outfits even when she got married into another house
- Honestly looks a lot like Myriah, and that’s kinda on purpose! They also have an increasingly toxic relationship with her cause I said so!
- … ngl I kinda made her a lot like Rhaenyra in terms of personality, if Rhaenyra was like, not interested in the throne and spent 100% more of her brain cells wanting to kiss more women
- Definitely a daddy’s girl, one of Daeron’s favourites aside from obvious golden child Baelor and used that status to get away with everythingggg, even if Myriah wouldn’t take any of her fuckery
- With that though, it would probably take her doing something really bad to get Daeron angry enough to send her away- so I think the probable breaking point was her coming onto one of her brothers’ betrothed/wives, ngl I kinda hc it to be Aelinor because I always love putting this queen in situations <3
- Because I give slightly more of a shit about her husband- I’m gonna name him Theo! He’s probably a Tyrell or from a minor Tyrell branch and also a second son, but Naera was allowed to choose him so she was looking less at status and more… Willingness to ignore all her possible affairs because he’s nice and also a little naive lol
- Their first kid is a girl named Thea after her dad, and continuing the bad family relationship they do not get along that much. Even less when Naera marries her off to a Tyrell cousin and basically adopts a new daughter
- Second kid is a son named Forrest. His most interesting traits is that he’s kinda sickly and also tries to claim the throne after Maekar’s death before his mama tells him to sit the fuck down and mind his dang business
- Her third unofficial kid is her handmaid/lover’s daughter Ella, who’s probably treated the best because Naera like, actually wanted to be a mom for her so she gets spoiled and taken pretty much everywhere she wants
- When it comes to the whole “cutting off your hand and throwing it at the pirate captain” thing, that was insane but like, I cannot emphasize enough that it wasn’t in a girlboss way. Animal caught in bear trap moment
- It was surprising it kinda worked tbh- it was a pure desperation moment after promising “her hand” and she played on that misunderstanding to get away… Captain absolutely kept her hand though
- Doesn’t matter tho because she got a whole new hand!! And it’s better! Kinda- it has articulating fingers and is sorta light and functional, but it’s also a pain to strap on and uncomfortable to have for long periods of time
- Absolutely becomes a worse person after her hand’s gone. Toxic queen 😌

Tysm @forestcat000 for giving me an excuse to talk about my targ ocs :))
Tw, brief mention of cannibalism at the end, also these are the twintargcest mfers so keep that in mind (though I don’t support any variety of targ or incest generally)
Elaena and Aenar are both twin children of Alicent and Viserys. I’m not entirely sure where in the order of children they’d fall, but they wouldn’t be first.
Aenar is very separated from doing literally anything ever. Nothing interests him aside from dragon riding, so he spends the entire time dragon riding, or terrorising people. He never gets involved with politics, even when he’s being forced into it. Elaena is a lot more involved, though she is more of a pawn. She’s used just to get the family what they want, and she’s kind of danced around because she’s pretty, and does everything she’s ‘meant’ to do, and is basically the portrayal of a ‘perfect’ Targaryen woman in that sense. Mostly her position is to just try and make Rhaenyra’s claim look weaker by playing to the whole idea that Rhae’s not acting as women ‘should’.
El is pretty closed off, so her interactions with other characters are quite limited. She does obviously go out to play a persons when she’s needed to, but other than that, she keeps to herself. She’s closest with Aenar, he’s her twin brother and her lover it would be expected, but there is a lot of tension there. Aenar likes to torment, and he can take it a little too far. She tends to be very cautious around him because of it, but she’s also very tender and caring. With her mother, she can be very similar, though mostly because she really cares about Alicent thinks of her. Most of what she does, she does because her mother asks if of her. She is also married to one of my other ocs, Cevan, and they’re very sweet together. They don’t talk much, but they do spend a lot of time in eachother’s company and he can be very loving. She doesn’t like how little she finds herself able to reciprocate his behaviour, but he never expects her to apologise for it. Aenar just bullies everyone. He’s an asshole and like I’m not going to pretend he isn’t. He’s nicest to Cevan just because he can’t get away with it with him. And no matter how much he pushes back against it, Cevan is also very sweet towards him. Cevan just loves him some twins idk what to say.
Aenar and Elaena actually share a dragon. I think I spoke about it briefly in another post?? Of their dragon eggs, one of them died and the other hatched deformed. They were sure it was going to die, but reptiles with Bicephaly (two heads) can survive and live full lives, so it didn’t. Both managed to bond with an individual head, but El bonded with the more dominant head, so technically her bond with the dragon is stronger. They named each head, with Aenar calling his Vermeys and Elaena calling hers Balerul. It’s all black, and rather large for its age as each head eats enough for one. Because I like my dragons to be special little princesses. Vermeys likes to torment mice and other small animals, whilst Balerul tends to have a stronger dislike towards people. Balerul is often muzzled for incidents with biting, and has scars across her neck from Vermeys tormenting her whilst she can’t defend herself.
I do want Elaena to have a form of magic, or at least something peculiar about her. But I honestly don’t trust myself enough with Got magic to give her any right now. But I’m reading the books so let’s hope they give me some semblance of an idea how to deal with it because El would have magic. Just… she would. She’s wonderful. She deserves it.
As for dragonlike traits, idk if you meant like physically or personality wise because I’m mentally like just fucking stupid. But the closest I can think of off the top of my head is that Elaena has some weird little envy thing where she kinda wishes she was born a dragon and so… goes out of her way to act like one. Plus she eats people because she saw Balerul eat someone and wanted to know what it tasted like… so… if either of them has Dragon-like traits, it’s el.

Im alive, lol. Inuyasha AU for Lucemond just because. Ok, I’m in way to many fandoms for my own sake, but meh. For the ones who don’t know, Inuyasha its a japanese anime, the simple plot, they are in feudal japan, and the’re are demons or youkai, in the original anime the male lead (Inuyasha) its a half dog demon or hanyo, his mother its a human and his dad its a famous demon (Or Inuyokai/Dog demon), in this case Lucerys its Inuyasha, Rhaenyra its his youkai mom and Ser Harwin its his human dad. Inuyasha also has a half brother how’s a youkai, a very proud and asshole dude, but also super handsome, lol, at some point in the story Inuyasha cuts his arm with his sword, and it doesnt grow back (for the ones who know lets leave it at that) so if Luke takes Aemond eye here of course its not coming back, canon you’all.  Inuyasha its like a very nostalgic anime from my childhood, I love it. I dont really ship Inuyasha with his brother, but Sesshomaru its to much like Aemond some times for me to ignore it, obssesed with his pure blood, his lineage and with power, also with pantene long white hair, do I need more? He also hates hanyo to the bone, specially his half brother, how can I not put my fated feud here? Lol. I like to think that the Targs are this very powerful and old Dragon Youkai family, Rhaenyra being well, Rhaenyra, doesn’t give a shit and goes and falls in love with Human Harwin and has all of her 3 hanyo children and has the time of her live with them until Harwin dies, because well, he’s a human and humans die, specially in feudal japan times lol. You can’t really hide being a hanyo because other youkais and hanyos can smell it, so no Laenor papa sadly, but hey, they are happy, the Targs, specially Aemond, can bitch about their pure blood all they want. Because anime magic and so on, Youkai and Hanyo don’t age like humans and they also have a bunch of other cool things, like weird magical swords and powers. Luke its not that good with swords so he uses a bow and arrows (Inspiration from Ñuhon its that you?), Aemond of course has a sword. Luke should have something more dragon like to show he’s a half dragon hanyo, but I really wanted to give him Inuyasha cute little dog ears for this drawing, we can also think they’re doing cosplay hahahahahhaa.  Fated feud forevah, Aemond its a snobby Oh no my pure youkai blood you damn hanyo ruin everything bla bla bla, and Lucerys always end’s up figthing with him for it, thats how you end up lossing eyes you’all. That’s also a very good way of ending obssesed with your hanyo nephew, hehe.

And let’s not forget that Laena herself is half Targaryen, she’s a direct descendant of Aegon the Conqueor, Rhaenys’s daughter and Aemon’s granddaughter. Baela and Rhaena are 100000 % Targaryens.
This denial of the dragons twins being Targaryen ever since HotD premiered goes along with the denial that Jaehaera will die and the desperate presumption that the show will keep her & she'll birth Aegon III's canonical children...that GRRM will "change his mind" bc the changes in HotD from canon events or characterization indicates such to them.
What happened to "two canons"? Even if the show did that, why do you think that the change will mean the actual series and history of the original story will also change?!
I already have one anon show how GRRM will never do that, but the other thing about that presumption is that GRRM has never really been that involved with the writing f this show. Even if he did come in to "fix" the 2nd season--and only IF bc we have no real confirmation--we need to remember that he'd be writing from what is already written and shown in the 1st season, and I already said many times that once you fuck up the characterizations and events/timeline of the first season you messed up your entire storyline. Because how can a story's characters and the internal lore of said story--the very history you've built up--be so different from what the first season and the tainted/ruined/misinterpreted messaging in the second? It's an imminent continuity error as well as a straight up lie--not fiction, a lie.
As it is, no, GRRM is not going to change his mind and recreate the original story or the in-world history for a few fans who can't take the fact that a few Targs are black and their singular girl will survive the shit her grandparents, parents and great-grandparent set up for her. He's had his lore for going on 15 or more years before HotD existed and before you ever even watched GoT or 1st pick up any ASoIaF installment...you think you're that fucking special? For a show that doesn't even match what her definitely put down in several sources?! Nah.
It's actually so arrogant bc why do you feel so entitled to have the story changed and not try to intake the purpose of Jaehaera's death and Daenaera's purpose for the Targ line towards Daenerys? ASoIaF maybe have received a commercial status as soon as it passed into a publishing house to be sold onto the market, but it is still a literary piece, an art piece. It still passes on an intended idea about "human conditions", to put it simply. And I mean the entirety of ASoIaF: the main series, F&B, the Dunk and Egg series, AWoIaF, all of it. And it's heavy on women and them defining and trying to restore and maintain their agency and/or protect a larger community as they cross class boundaries. Such ideas and commentaries on hierarchies--flawed they may be--should not be reduced into a capitalist product you can make demands of because you decided to engage with it and see it as just a thing GRRM makes money off of! Reminds me of people saying fanfic writers "should" do this, that and have editors...
Why do they feel so fucking entitled to a critical piece of lore to be changed...and not take time to actually try to know what they are reading?!!

Tbh with the way they sidestepped Laenor’s death in this episode and contorted themselves to frame Rhaenyra and Daemon as helpful to him while he’s actually being exiled in secret from his parents and children just after his sister has died, I think they’re going to find themselves in exactly the situation where the super special snowflake heroine has to suddenly flip to make the plot work in S3. Well, they can’t say they weren’t warned.
Helpful to Laenor BY MURDERING A RANDOM INNOCENT MAN. I'm not like super duper hyped on the thought that the show will actually acknowledge that but I thought that was VERY telling subtextually in that Rhaenyra and Daemon care about who they care about and literally see anyone outside of that as essentially objects. But as someone who is a non-Targ stan it's always weird to me because it's instances like these where I'm like WOW they're so heavy-handed that the Targaryens suck but everyone else in the world is like OMG can you believe how evil Alicent is because her son was mauled and her kids were tacitly threatened with having their tongues cut out for stating the obvious and she was gaslit by an entire crowd of people and she flipped her shit and actually CUT RHAENYRA ON THE ARM. I mean who could pay attention to the random dead guy who was murdered for absolutely no reason when RHAENYRA IS GOING TO HAVE A SCAR FOREVER. Targ nation will forever confuse me.
