Thinking about how by becoming a better person Narvin progressively gets more tormented by his past mistakes and pretty cruel and unhumane things he did throughout the series. Yes, he became a better person but he has to constantly face the person he was when he sees how Time Lords destroy planets without any regards for the local population and nature, when he sees Ollistra mistreating Leela as a lesser being, when he understands that the situation that Lenaris and Helico got themselves into is the result of his past-self's carelessness and cruelty. You can see throughout War Room 2 how this guilt constantly affects his decisions.

Additionally, he absolutely sees himself as the reason why this whole war is happening since he unwillingly started it. Which makes him partially complicit in Romana and Leela's imprisonment.

I wonder how much more will it affect his rationality later down the line 🤔

Hey like what if Rufus during the regency wasn't actually a philanderer like the rumors claim. What if it was just because Cornelia was constantly all over him in creepy ways and people see that and misinterpret that. What if he was drinking so much to try and ignore all the red flags because he knows he's already fucked up beyond turning back and is just trying to play within the cards he still has.

What if he really did try as regent but being drunk so often to avoid the horrors also meant his political aptitude isn't being used to its full potential on top of the fact that he wasn't taught to rule the way Lambert would have been. Because he was never meant to rule. He's trying to scrape things together haphazardly while fighting mental battles against Cornelia's influence and also his own running from the horrors and the alcohol influence and the timer ticking down on him.

Cornelia was the one who orchestrated the Tragedy in his name. The Western lords answer to her. But he was complicit and by the goddess he feels so guilty for it because her influence still made him permit all those things to happen. Because without her influence, no matter how much he resented his brother, he would not have tried to kill him. And he lives to regret it knowing he can't undo it. He tries to salvage things where he can. But he's just in far too deep, and too unprepared. And so if he has to commit, he may as well commit to the end and get his retribution at the hands of the one who deserves to give it to him most.

A weak pretext, a cheap ploy, he was going to play a game of odds stacked against himself fully expecting to - and wanting to die at the hands of his nephew even if he fears it just as much. He is strong, but his nephew is stronger in ways that he can never reach, and fueled with resentment for him. There is no one more deserving to give him his release from a living nightmare to plunge him into hell.

Maybe then, he's just as much a victim of the Tragedy as his brother and nephew are.

I'm researching the era when Alastor was alive right now to get a better idea of both his character, the life he lived before Hell, and to hash out a backstory for him.

And so, apparently, Alastor lived through the Prohibition (which was basically the United States government illegalizing the manufacture, transportation, and sale of alcohol because they thought it was the cause of a lot of domestic violence and child abandonment).

Alastor canonically died in 1933.

Do you know how long the Prohibition lasted?

From 1920-1933.

ALASTOR LITERALLY DIED THE SAME YEAR ALCOHOL BECAME LEGAL AGAIN. CAN YOU IMAGINE HOW BITTER HE MUST'VE BEEN?

The Prohibition officially ended on December 5, 1933, and now my headcanon is that Alastor died December 6, 1933. Literally the day after he could legally drink all the booze he wanted.

I am learning a LOT about New Orleans and the era Alastor lived through (including the gay community in the city at the time) which has been a lot of fun, and I just wanted to share that tidbit because it is so fucking funny to me.

Thinking about how Diavolo’s feelings transcend time and how in the Nightbringer UR+ card Demon Lord’s Castle Tour this conversation happens.

When asked, “Do you wish to see your father?”

Diavolo responds:

“I suppose I do . . .” isn’t the typical reaction to how a child would feel about wanting to see their parent. Especially when said parent has essentially been in a coma for a year.

Along with how Diavolo describe his father.

It makes more sense why when you learn in Lesson 56 how Diavolo was treated by him growing up.

Diavolo can tell when others are lying but is unable to understand his father’s intentions.

Diavolo mentions that he lived a very sheltered life growing up. That from a young age his father never allowed him a chance to talk to anyone outside the castle.

His childhood friend was Mephistopheles. A demon literally RAISED to be his friend. Putting a barrier between the two because Mephistopheles would put Diavolo on a pedestal.

The isolating childhood he experienced riddled with his strict father constantly scolding him.

Despite everything MC is so important to him he wants to see his father again so we can meet.

#Demons and Humans can’t get married even in the present so it adds an extra layer him wanting to introduce us. #There’s a lot more you could add onto this (please do I’d love to hear other’s thoughts). #Like how Diavolo’s childhood affected him just look at the way he describes himself: #“The truth is I am a child in a way. A child who spends his time alone and never gets to do anything interesting.” #A lot of Diavolo’s poor behavior while not excused comes from his childhood. #How Diavolo admits to using his position to force others to do what he wants. I want. Four to get appreciation. Because

Four gave a ton of unnoticed help when Twilight was injured

The fight with Wild was difficult, and I know we're all concerned about his negative view of the shadow crystal

But Four did something that no one else really thought of to help- He took care of Twi's stuff

From the beginning he told Twilight to not worry about them

So Four took care of pretty much everything but the others (that Sky and Wars handled)

He took care of Epona

Which is so very important- he took care of Twilight's horse. After her arrival at the stable Four followed up on her

And for Epona, a horse so attached to her human, having some company can help so much for reassurance

He took care of Twilight's stuff

He got Twi's shield- his bags and equipment, and organized it into one place

And he was worried. He obviously found the shadow crystal while handling Twi's stuff, but his negative reactions to it were out of concern.

Also- because of his placement in this scene

I'm fairly convinced Four was ready to start cooking before Wild showed up (since he's beside the counter with food supplies). At the very least he had the basket of fruit out for everyone -but he was literally standing with food behind him- he thought of everything

And he did housekeeping!

Wars payed for the inn, so Four took care of the inn

Realistically these boys were probably not too concerned with tidyness. Four got all of Twi's things on one table, and took care of the room they stayed in

Organizing tables and Twi's things, having food supplies ready, and opening the curtains- overall he was the one tidying up the inn

Four helped in a huge way! He took care of Twi's horse (Epona is so important), his equipment and shield and bag, as well as the other rooms in the inn

Four filled in all the little tasks that others didn't think of. He helped in ways that were needed, but not obvious

There's a lot of problems with the shadow crystal and with Wild, and I don't know what's gonna happen in the future

But don't forget this- don't forget that Four was one who stepped up in an almost unnoticeable way

Don't forget that when everyone was barely holding it together, Four visited Twilight's horse and took care of his things

No matter what develops in the future- this amount of care shown is important ya know?
