The Benefits of Lowering the Gaze
Abū al-Fawāris Shah b. Shujāʿ al-Kirmānī said: قال أبو الفوارس شاه بن شجاع الكرماني: “Whoever lowers his gaze from what is al-muḥarram (ie: prohibited) and restrains himself from worldly desires and inhabits his inner self with self-assessment and his outer self with the following of the Sunnah, من غَضّ بصره عن المحارم، وأمسك نفسه عن الشهوات، وعمر باطنه بدوام المراقبة، وظاهره باتباع السنة، and habituates himself with eating al-ḥalāl (ie: the permissible) shall not err in his (decisive) insights.” Been a while since I’ve posted something related to XIV so here’s some Carmina. There was something about next patch using portraits for more dungeons and stuff or something? I dono I don’t really pay attention to announcements and just skim patch notes for stuff I care about when things actually come out but I heard something about this and decided that I needed to go in and make portaits for every class. This also resulted in me tweaking a couple glams and making a few new ones. Sadly I use two of my glam plats for my Crafter and Gatherer glams so MNK/SAM and DRG/RPR have to share outfits for now. PLEASE SE I just need 2 more glam plates (though also like a nice rounded 5 would be nice to keep holiday outfits separate on). Anyways random details about all the tweaks and new outfits (along with some of my general long winded ramblings) below the cut I guess.
So SCH, RDM, MCH, and NIN got completely new looks. My old SCH was too close in color and used a lot of the same pieces as my SGE look I put together for story this expansion so it had to go. RDM used a top that I had modded and so didn’t look right anymore. The top it has WAS originally on my new MCH look but I had shifted that to be more pirate-y and still wanted to use the top and it looks great in red. NIN was going to get a modified version of a Cait Sith cosplay I put together for a group Halloween shot my FC did but then I realized when lookig through stuff that I had the Neo-Ishgardian top and that plan went out the window as I decided I had a need to work around that top for the look.
Meanwhile... BRD continues to get stuck with my holiday look whatever that ends up being. So for now it gets to support my Christmas gear. Maybe after the holidays I’ll change it but the look is solid on its own holiday season or not so it may just stay.
For more minor changes... My DNC used to sport a hat, I might even have some screenshots somewhere on here from the past where it still sports that hat. The look was built around an old old glam from the HW days that I made that was very... tap-dancer-esque. These days the new look has kind of been a Mina default look and is what I base a lot of my art and designing around but I always leave out the hat so decided I’d switch it with glasses. They might not stay but I do always love the look of glasses on Mina. Second only to hair flowers (I just didn’t feel I had any good ones on hand to go with the look).
MNK/SAM got new earrings and DRG/RPR got new nails. These were both super minor style changes. I wanted some earrings that were lowkey and that I didn’t really use much (instead of my usual heart earrings) for the MNK/SAM look. That look has always been a staple of my wardrobe since at least early HW if not sooner than that. It’s simple and effective and was built entirely around the gloves and going “what else can I make black that has gold accents?” The DRG/RPR look is similarly an old classic of mine, built completely around the Maelstrom coat. I used to have the sharp beastly nails on the look and I just switched those out for the like regular painted nails. Super minor change for a look that has never stopped being amazing. The way the Y’shtola HW boots pair with that coat is too dang powerful.
As one last random aside, BLU continues to be my most extra look. I have tried to make it over the top and extravagant in ever incarnation I’ve made of it. This one is decidedly less silly than it’s first main glam (which I should dig up some old pics of) but it still has that very loud, “LOOK AT ME” showmanship to the design. Every time I make a new outfit for it I have a lot of fun with it. The only look that I think brings me more joy from the sillyness of it is my blindfolded “I can’t read” SMN look.

The food influencer racket
The food influencer racket
Yeah, I called it a racket. I like bold flavours. So what? And especially the halaal food influencers. The halaal food industry is a fickle bastard to be honest. There are some cooks, bakers etc who have this dream of making food and start up a food business. The problem with halaal food is that anything can considered not halaal or haram. About 12 years ago a family run halaal business in PE…

Cranberry chutney
Sweet, tart, jammy cranberries evolve into the subtle aromatics of cumin, mustard, and bay leaf before rounding off into a smooth, even chili heat in this Anglo-Indian-style chutney. It's excellent in place of cranberry sauce on all kinds of roasts, meat pies, flatbreads, sandwiches, and charcuterie boards.
The cooked fruit-and-vinegar chutneys made by English cooks during the British colonization of India were inspired by the fresh and pickled Indian condiments that English traders and soldiers—including those in the East India Company's military arm—had acquired a taste for, but substituted locally familiar produce and cooking methods for Indian ones. "Indian" recipes began appearing in English cookbooks in the mid-18th century, inspiring and fulfilling a desire for the exotic and, effectively, advertising colonial goods. The domestic kitchen thus became a productive site for the creation and negotiation of colonial ideology: the average English housekeeper could feel a sense of ownership over India and its cultural and material products, and a sense of connection to the colonial endeavor desite physical distance.
This sauce, centered around a tart fruit that is simmered with sugar and savory aromatics and spices, is similar in composition to an Anglo-Indian chutney, but some Indian pantry staples that British recipes tend to substitute or remove (such as jaggery, bay leaf, and mustard oil) have been imported back in. The result is a pungent, spicy, deeply sweet, slightly sour topping that's good at cutting through rich, fatty, or starchy foods.
Recipe under the cut!
Patreon | Tip jar
Ingredients:
1/2 cup dried cranberries (krainaberee), or 1 cup fresh or frozen
5 curry leaves (kari patta), or 1 Indian bay leaf (tej patta)
1/2 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
1/2 tsp black mustard seeds (rai)
3 Tbsp jaggery (gur / gud)
1-3 small red chili peppers (kali mirch), to taste
1/2” chunk (5g) ginger (adarakh), peeled
1 clove garlic (lahsun)
1/2 red onion (pyaaj) or 1 shallot
1 Tbsp mustard oil (sarson ke tel)
1/3 cup (80 mL) water
Pinch black salt (kala namak)
Curry leaves can be purchased fresh at a South Asian grocery store. If you can't find any, Indian bay leaves can be used as a substitute (the flavor isn't per se similar, but it would also be appropriate in this dish). Indian bay leaves are distinct from Turkish or California laurel bay leaves and have a different taste and fragrance. They will be labelled “tej patta” in an Asian or halaal grocery store, and have three vertical lines running along them from root to tip, rather than radiating out diagonally from a central vein.
Instructions:
1. Pound onion, garlic, ginger, and chili to a paste in a mortar and pestle; or, use a food processor.
2. In a thick-bottomed pot, heat mustard oil on medium. Add curry leaves or tej patta and fry until fragrant.
3. Add cumin and mustard seed and fry another 30 seconds to a minute, until fragrant and popping.
4. Lower heat to low. Add aromatic paste and fry, stirring constantly, for about 30 seconds, until fragrant.
5. Add cranberries, jaggery, black salt, and water. Raise heat and bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer and cook uncovered, stirring often, until thick and jammy. Remove from heat a bit before it reaches your desired consistency, since it will continue to thicken as it cools.
Store in a jar in the refrigerator for 2-3 weeks.

Eating Meat That Was Not Slaughtered The Correct Way
(Question): Your son ʿAbd al-Raḥmān Muḥammad al-Asiri says, “Is it permissible for us to eat meat slaughtered in a manner other than the Islāmic way, knowing that there is no other restaurant designated for lunch during lunch time? Even though that is permissible because it is from the meat slaughtered by the People of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), however I know that it is not slaughtered, but rather it was done by way of strangulation, shooting or with specific machines?” He answered, may Allah the Exalted have mercy on him: The meat slaughtered by the people of the Scripture is lawful for us due to the statement of Allah [The food (slaughtered cattle, eatable animals, etc.) of the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) is lawful to you]. [5:5] Neither is it permissible for us to ask nor is it obligated on us to ask how they slaughtered them; and whether they uttered the name of Allah over it or not; but rather it is not legislated for us to ask, because the Prophet [ﷺ] – as reported in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī- was asked by a people, who said, “O Allah’s Messenger! Some people bring us meat, but we do not know whether they mentioned the name of Allah over it or not”. He said, “You mention (the name of Allah over it) and eat”. [al-Bukhārī 2057] This shows that it is not legislated for a person to ask about the slaughtered meat of someone whose slaughtered meat is permissible (to eat) as to how he slaughtered it? And whether he did mention the name of Allah over it or not? Moreover, when a Jewess gave a goat to the Prophet [ﷺ] at Khaybar, he ate from it and did not ask her how it was slaughtered. Therefore, neither is it legislated nor is it from the Sunnah for a person to ask about the slaughtered meat of someone whose meat is permissible as to how he slaughtered it, and whether he mentioned the name of Allah over it or not? But if you are certain that this particular animal that was presented to you was slaughtered in a way other than the Islāmic way, by strangulation, shooting, or by throwing it into hot water, or something similar to this, which is not the Islāmic way, then it is not lawful for you; just as it is not lawful for you if a Muslim slaughtered it in this way- and the Muslim is undoubtedly better than the Jew and the Christian, and more beloved; then more so (i.e. unlawful) if a Jew or a Christian slaughtered it in manner other than Islāmic way. And if the slaughtered meat of the Christians or Jews is varied -meaning, some of them kill (the animal) by strangulation, some by Dhabh [i.e. permissible slaughter at the top of the neck, such as what is done to cows, sheep, goats etc] and Nahr [permissible slaughter at the bottom of the neck, such as what is done to camels], then indeed there is doubt in the affair as to whether it is from these or one of those? Then a person should be cautious, because the path of precaution for a person – in leaving what is doubtful for what is not doubtful – is better, more appropriate, and more excellent. Muḥammad b.

Shaytaan has been successful in many matters. In misguiding muslims all around the world. In making them believe Allah is merciful then making them follow the path of misguidance.
I believe porn industry is a major role player in this. Although we are well aware it is fake but still we like it. They are the most skillful in such cases. They numb their body parts to go extreme and do what is not befitting us. Allah says do whatever you want during intimacy prohibiting few things but we leave the halaal things and do haraam and this is really a major sin. I'm sharing this because the growing audience is watching this. They should not go close to it ( porn ) and do not corrupt their minds

Allah calls Himself As-Samee’— The Hearing, The Ever-Listening— on 45 occasions in the Quran. He is the One whose hearing and attention comprehends everything. As-Samee’ hears every word, thought, and secret, and He listens to every voice. As-Samee’ listens and pays attention to everything, perfectly, eternally, and without any limits!
The All-Hearing, The Ever-Listening

Samee’ comes from the root seen-meem-‘ayn, which refers to four main meanings. The first main meaning is to hear and to listen, and the second to accept and receive. The third main meaning is to pay attention to and the fourth is to understand the meaning.
This root appears 185 times in the Quran in 10 derived forms. Examples of these forms are sami’a (to hear, to listen), tusmi’u (to make hear), and as-sam’a (the hearing).
Linguistically samee’ is on the structure of intensification. As-Samee’ refers to the perfection and the totality of Allah’s hearing, which cannot be compared with the hearing of any other created being.
As-Samee’ Himself says: Our Lord! Accept this service from us: For You are the All-Hearing, the All-knowing [Quran, 2: 127] . . . If I am astray, I only stray to the loss of my own soul: but if I receive guidance, it is because of what my Lord reveals to me. He is All-Hearing, Ever-Near. [Quran, 34:50] . . . And Allah hears your discussions. Lo! Allah is All-Hearing, All-Seeing. [Quran, 58: 1]
No secrets for As-Samee’
As-Samee’ hears every single sound, every rustle of the tree, every voice, and every thought. Our most secret speech is an open declaration before Allah. As-Samee’ tells us: It is the same to Him whether one of you conceals his speech or declares it openly; whether he lies hidden by night or walks forth freely by day. [Quran, 13: 10] Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her, said: Glory be to Allah whose hearing embraces all voices. The woman came to the Prophet, peace be upon him, with her plea. She had a grievance against her husband. I was in the corner of the house and did not hear what she said. Then Allah revealed: Allah has heard the plea of the woman who pleads with you . . . [An-Nasaa’i, Ibn Maajah]
How Can You Live by This Name?
1. Watch that tongue.
How many times have you watched your mouth when certain people were around, like your parents, a teacher, or your boss? As a Muslim one of your tasks is to guard your tongue, anytime, anywhere, and in any company.
Parents sin if they use inappropriately harsh or curse words while disciplining the children. As-Samee’ told us: Not a word does he (or she) utter, but there is a watcher by him ready (to record it). [Quran, 50:18] Use your tongue wisely so that your words will not be something that keep you from the gates of Jannah.
2. Study the etiquette of speech for a Muslim.
How do you know if your speech is pleasing to As-Samee’ if you do not study His book and the sunnah of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him? Learn about the prohibitions of the tongue, like backbiting, swearing, and lying. Study the types of speech As-Samee’ loves to hear from you, like dhikr, good advice, kind words to others, and reciting the Quran.
3. Ask As-Samee’ in salah.
Did you know you have seven places where you seek As-Samee’ with supplications in your prayer? You can do so after the first takbeer, and on some occasions before bowing, also while bowing, when you rise from bowing, during your prostrations, between the two prostrations, and at the very end of the prayer before you say your Salaam. Make use of these times to ask for whatever (halaal) you want in this life and the next.
4. Be comforted by As-Samee’.
When Allah ‘azza wa jall sent Musa and Harun to confront the Pharaoh, He comforted them with the words: Fear not. Indeed, I am with you (both); I hear and I see. [Quran, 20:46] As-Samee’ hears and answers your prayers, so invoke Him and supplicate to Him. Remember— dua’ is the weapon of the believer and can make the mountains shake.
5. Seek refuge in As-Samee’.
The Prophet Muhammad, salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, used to seek refuge with Allah from four things, including a prayer that goes unheard:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عِلْمٍ لَا يَنْفَعُ وَمِنْ قَلْبٍ لَا يَخْشَعُ وَمِنْ نَفْسٍ ‏لَا تَشْبَعُ ‏ ‏وَمِنْ دَعْوَةٍ لَا يُسْتَجَابُ لَهَا‏
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowledge which does not benefit, from a heart that does not entertain the fear (of Allah), from a soul that is not satisfied and the supplication that is not answered. [Muslim] The Prophet did not mean that he feared Allah would not hear the prayer itself, but rather that Allah would leave the prayer unanswered!
6. Ask As-Samee’ to bless your hearing.
Allah As-Samee’ loves those who use the abilities He gave them for His sake. Did Allah give you ears to listen to gossip or music? Did He give you a tongue so He could hear swearing and lying from you? Ask Him to help you to use your hearing and your tongue only for things pleasing to Him.
7. Pick the right words.
A true believer would never intentionally give reason to others to be doubtful, nor hurt their feelings in any way. You must ensure, as far as possible, that what you say is heard and understood by all involved; pick your words with wisdom.
8. Feel ‘sami’Allahu liman hamidah’.
Next to the amazing Hearing of Allah, The beautiful name As-Samee’ also means He answers our prayers. After bowing in prayer we say: sami’Allahu liman hamidah (Allah hears the one who praises Him). We know that Allah hears us; this means that Allah answers those who praise Him and seek Him in prayer. Now every time you say sami’Allahu liman hamidah, feel that Allah is The All-Hearer and make the intention to strive that He only hears good from you.
O Allah, As-Samee’, we know You hear every sound and thought. Aid us to watch our tongues and use them for Your sake only, protect us from foul speech, bless our tongue and our hearing, and make us of those whose prayers are answered, ameen!

🌟 Rasulullah salla Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallam (ﷺ) said: ❛Shall I tell you a word which is one of the treasures of Jannah? It is: La hawla wa laa quwwata illaa billah.❜ [Sahih al-Bukhari 6384]
This dhikr is often translated as: [There is] no power nor strength except with Allah.
But power and strength seem to have a similar definition, so what’s the difference between these two words?
🌿 {Hawl} actually means to change (a condition). 🌿 {Quwwah} means strength, the ability to carry out that change.
So {la hawla} means that there is no change, no turning away from something; and {la quwwah} means there is no strength to carry out that change; {illa billah} — except only with Allah’s Help.
I cannot change from a place of sickness to health, except by Allah. I cannot go from sorrow to joy, except by Allah. I cannot even turn my heart towards Allah, except that Allah turns my heart towards Him.
But this dhikr is not a negation of our effort in changing our situation, rather it is an affirmation of Allah’s Power over us. For example, when Rasulullah ﷺ said that we enter Jannah only by Allah’s Rahmah, he ﷺ matched that with efforts until his feet would swell due to his long standing in prayers seeking that Rahmah. Our efforts should be exerted as much as possible while recognizing Allah’s limitless Power and our complete dependence on Him.
So every time we ask Allah for that turning, for that change towards khayr, recite this dhikr with the utmost confidence that Allah will make the matter easy, and match that conviction with the proper halaal efforts. May Allah grant us ease in this dunya and akhirah.
