Made some loyalist Space Marine cross stitch patterns. Many of them are untested, I can't guarantee they work. But the idea was for them to fit into an 8cm hoop with 18ct aida.
There isn't enough grimdark crafting!
Space Wolves, Dark Angels, Salamanders, Iron Hands, Ultramarines, White Scars, Blood Angels, Raven Guard, Imperial Fists

Today, something a little different! Because Votann aren't. Good. In 10e, and Games Workshop are kinda lame anyway. A game of One Page Rules! The Reach Industrial Conglomerate (RIC) has deployed the Hekaton Fortress Noble-6 to extract resources that happen to be in the middle of a City on Harvest World Marwick. The Sanguine Knights dispatch a Calvary Detachment to Shoo them off:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Sanguine Melta ATVs are the most immediate threat to Noble-6, thus it trundles forward, immediately destroying one.
Tumblr media
The other one gets a chance to respond, and takes off 3 of Noble-6's *18* hit points. I love One Page Rules. The Lone Champion, the Hammer Chief, goes to claim the objective. He will sit. there all game. With his 4 inch move. But he did his job. The Khal of the RIC and his Veteran 10-man squad drop out the right door of the fortress, to set up against a bike advacne.
Tumblr media
The right Flank has more issues. The Techmarine can heal basically anything in my opponents list, and the Baal Predator puts out. So many shots. The RIC bikes duck behind the bridge, waiting for the right moment to take the crossroads objective. (One page Rules has no victory points. It's battlefront rules. You own it until an opponent steps on it. If you both have minis within the outer hazard circle, it's contested. Shaken units can't hold objectives. This is going to become. *Very* important)
Tumblr media
This quickly turns into a battle of the bridge. Whoever holds it will end up taking this battle.
Tumblr media
Both tanks trundle onto the bridge. It groans in protest. The Death Company Bikers are shot down by the Magma Guns on the RIC. (Splasers, Baby!). The Baals Machine Guns Whirr, it's Hunter-Killer Missle Sings .. and yet it all plinks off Noble-6's Hull (I would not roll below a 5. That thing could've easily taken down the Hekaton. And each of his characters has fusion pistols. There's no *strength* in One Page Rules. Just a roll to hit a roll to defend. He was throwing a lot of AP 1 and 2, which work like tenth.).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally, the battle for the crossroads begins. The bikers move in, and are able to fight the RIC off point with Morale Checks and Charges. The Rich had left too little, and the biker squad in full (the machine gun bikes are separate activations). Was too late to respond. Although they, too, would quickly break (a 4+ is brutal for this. Morale fucking matters in this game). It's looking like an RIC Loss..
Tumblr media
Untill the last moment. The other Trike was able to capture the now unattended objective 4. A tank charge from the Baal Predator Induces a failed moral check on the Hekaton, meaning that this day ends in a draw. As the sun sets and artillery roars, both sides are ordered to fall back... This isnt over though....
(overall I had a lot of fun, my opponent seemed to as well. This was a learning game, so I'm sure we both made mistakes rules wise (even with a single sheet) and tactical. Today, we told a tale of combined arms versus bikes. I think next time it may be more Iron Vs Iron....)

I keep seeing some variation of "why am I so upset?! It's just a show!"
No! No, that is the mind-killer! Art matters! TV shows are pieces of art!
They might be silly, fluffy, brightly colored art, or they might be grimdark fantasy hellscapes, or they might be moderate pieces of hotel art, but they are ART. And art affects us because we're human beings. We see ourselves in it. We learn through it. We tell our histories through it. We teach our children through it. We've been making art since we became human.
This is something that a lot of people spent a lot of time and care and love crafting, so that they could share it with other people who would see something of themselves and others in it. Stories matter! How stories make you feel matters!
We've become so embarrassed by having feelings, especially ones of love and care and grief, but one of the things that OFMD says very clearly is that those feelings are good! They're OK to have and to express and not expressing them in healthy ways can hurt us, very badly.
This is a silly pirate TV show and it matters. How it made you feel matters.

sorry it drives me crazy how many people r invested in only the crazy psycho killer grimdark edgelord aspect of dark urge like they aren’t the forefront of a beautifully crafted narrative about nature versus nurture. the person you want to be versus the person you cannot stop being. how late is too late for you? does sunk cost apply if the price was paid in blood? can you deny the very purpose of your existence? is this what love truly is, and is what you were given before a mere imitation of affection? what if i fucking exploded

*slams table* that's it i'm posting nope thoughts
listen i'm not smart i'm not gonna talk about this like a smart person i'm gonna rant about it like the buzzy shell this movie left me
THIS MOVIE IS AS MUCH ABOUT GORDY AS IT IS ABOUT JEAN JACKET AND ALL THE ADULTS I SEE ACTING CONFUSED ABOUT THE WAY THEY WEAVE TOGETHER ARE KILLING MEEEEEEEE the existence of gordy's tragedy grounds the story in reality in a fucking harrowing way, chimps Have Done This, in Real Life, and they are From This Planet.
that said..................i'mgonnamostlytalkaboutjeanjacketok
stupidest take i've seen today is that OJ actually died and the shot at the end was Em's desperate imagination. fuck off no no you don't know how to watch movies you only know how to write messed up grimdark theories. NO. OJ's finally confrontation with Jean Jacket demonstrated how his knowledge of animal handling was so much more comprehensive than anyone else's, and that he and Em CAN live up to and even exceed the legacy of their family.
because Jean Jacket is written as a predatory animal, that's how OJ describes it. and we realize that avoiding eye contact is one way to keep yourself safe, but that way IS NOT A GUARANTEE, it absolutely would've slurped OJ and Lucky if not for the flag decoy. so knowing animals, knowing predators, knowing territorial behaviors, there is another way to handle a predator. the most dangerous way. which is showing absolute, inarguable control in the face of it. meeting its eyes and convincing it you are the bigger animal. dominating it.
when beautiful, terrible Jean Jacket unfurled and opened its REAL eye and flash flash flashed at OJ, instantly, INSTANTLY, i was like "that's a threat display." right??? am i wrong??? why else would it go so extra when it had been wrecking shop just fine as a saucer?? that was a threat display, Jean Jacket made itself as big as possible in the face of OJ, despite being totally capable of sucking him up at any time.
and finally, OJ looked right back. totally calm, totally motionless, totally prepared to die for his sister. at one point he says "if it's an animal it can be broken" because horses are territorial, horses are massive, horses are tough, and handling them is his craft. he was DOMINATINGGGG
for gordy, there were implied to be no animal handlers on set. there was no one who knew what to do. Jupe is not an animal handler, he's an actor with notions of being "chosen" to live and connect with these predators who appear to spare him. he survived a tragedy and profited off that spectacle his whole life. that doesn't mean he deserved his fate but that's the thing it's not about deserving it's not about being chosen it's not about fate it's about ANIMALS.
and ultimately, the only people who could exert any level of control over Jean Jacket were the financially struggling, less than glamorous, disrespected mother fucking animal handlers!!!!!!!!!!!!

Total Drama Psycho Noah AU, what if Sierra (who knew everything about everybody) tried to warn Heather + Alejandro NOT to mess with Noah, cause he's a total psychopath (but they don't believe her) ... Sierra doesn't have to worry about Cody getting hurt, cause he's a sweet boy, and Noah only hurts people that attack him first... What if after Heather + Alejandro later learns the truth, Sierra simply tells the duo: "I told you so..." 😒
You're so right about Sierra being one of the few who's In The Know about p!Noah (without his express input), thanks to her superfan status.
Sierra throws a bit of a wrench into this whole AU, really. Because there'd need to be justification for her either not saying anything about Noah's true colours, or having the others not believe her claims about Noah despite it being abundantly clear that her knowledge on them is pretty infallible.
But.
Playing in to the whole 'obsessive superfan' thing, Sierra wouldn't want to jeopardise the ruse Noah's so carefully crafted if he were, say, one of her favourite characters.
Because Noah (every version of Noah) is a fairly private person, all things considered. She doesn't have a lot of information to go off of- not in comparison to the fountain of knowledge she has about the rest of the cast, at least- but she does know that he must be keeping his true colours a secret for a reason. Would you want to ruin someone's carefully laid web of deception when it's been one of the most entertaining aspects of the show thus far?
Or.
You could take it down another route, and have Sierra outright dislike Noah because he's A Danger to her beloved cast, but have this dislike become evident before she can warn the others; Sierra's pretty crazy herself, so the cast would dismiss her warnings are her trying to rally them against the person she so clearly hates instead of a genuine effort to keep them safe. After all, wouldn't it be in character for someone as evidently unstable as Sierra to lie and spread 'baseless rumours' about the person she clearly despises?
(That second option's fun, because it adds an aspect of dramatic irony for the audience both in-universe and IRL; they/we know that Sierra's right, so her struggle to be listened to would be almost Cassandra-esque.)
Either way, she'd make a point of staying as far away as possible from Noah. Because Sierra (like the rest of the in-universe audience) are working under the impression that Noah's a ticking time-bomb, a constant threat of incredible violence against the cast, since that's exactly what Noah painted himself as during his confessionals. (Speaking of confessionals, I do have a justification as to why the contestants eliminated before Noah are also unaware of his unhingedness, that I'll cover in it's own post.) That's not entirely true, of course; Noah's a psychopath with a grimdark sense of humour, sure, but he's not about to start randomly attacking people in bouts of spontaneous hysteria- but the audience, and therefore Sierra, don't have the comfort of that little tidbit of information.
It all circles back to Noah being a private person. He holds his cards close to his chest; in this case, the audience knows what he's capable of, but they don't know that a lot of his Baby Craves Violence act is just that- an act. A joke he's pulling on the viewing world, that he admittedly gets a little too into to. The perils of being dedicated to the bit. Not that he doesn't have the occasional urge to commit felonies and acts of brutality against others, but he's got enough self-control to redirect that energy into causing less destructive chaos (most of the time).
-
So when his true colours are eventually revealed? Sierra is so vindicated, she almost forgets the danger (she thinks) she's in. Almost.
(In the context of the second option;) She's spent the majority of the season thus far warning the others against Noah, only to have her good intentions brushed aside time and time again (which, ouch! Imagine trying to help the people you idolise enough to literally stalk throw your concern for their safety back in your face) by their incredulity. Being proven to have been in the right the entire time would be a power trip and a half, because it'd validate her skills as the unofficial-official expert on all things Total Drama and she'd get to shove the consistent rebuffs back in the others' faces.
It's a shame she'd be so dead-set on disliking Noah on principle, because the two of them could be great friends. If Sierra had a stronger craving for chaos and disorder, she could form a Terror Trio with Noah and Izzy.

There is a noticeable lack of Warhammer 40k Cross Stitching, and I seem to be the only person worried about this. In an attempt to combat this grave injustice, I made some smol 60x60 patterns from my favorite 40k book, Steve Parker's Deathwatch. I call it the Killteam Talon Collection. For free, GW, chill!

One thing I want to emphasize as important about Good Omens is that it didn't have to be brooding, dark, or filled with despair to be deep. Good Omens reckons with cosmically profound themes: free will, fate, disillusionment with humanity, hope in humanity, the complexity of growing up, justice vs. injustice, immortality, establishing yourself as an individual, family, characterization, isolation, and so much more. It's literally about the end of the world, but it doesn't need to be filled with hopelessness and senseless violence and sheer hopelessness and other grimdark staples in order to have those themes. Of course, Good Omens is not entirely happy-go-lucky, but the scenes of anger, grief, loneliness, and sadness all richly characterize the world and its characters. I think too often people believe that for a piece of media to be raw, deep, or meaningful it must be dark and show humanity its own cruelty. Those works are important, and they are fascinating, and they are valuable. But so are works that use comedy and lightheartedness to craft a story that does not need agony to convey complicated themes. Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett created a beautiful example of this

Gotta say your au mixed with the art style and such and amazing work in what we seen so far with the horror and some laughs it's just become a treat every time I saw new details (whenever you supplies them up, thanks for that)
I know you already disclosure that it's gonna be bad BAD TIMES for the puppets gang but does it have it's soft ad fluff times??
The shot were Frank ask Wally if they're dying will looking up for the ceiling hasn't leave my brain, such a raw emotional clear on them, I wonder when they were just the two of them for a while they cuddle or hold hands for comfort??
I just.i just want them to have small victories of comfort
of course it has fluff and comfort! a lot of it! having a nice blend of both makes the fluff feel sweeter & the hurt hit all the harder <3 i will now supply some (written (for now)) examples and tidbits. putting it under the cut cause it got kinda Long
Frank & Wally do become very affectionate with each other! ofc as soon as Frank woke Wally was like "ok im holding your hand everywhere we go, this is Non Negotiable". because its dark! he doesn't want Frank to stray too far or get lost! and it's easier to yank Frank outta harm's way if they're already holding hands. comfort factors into it later, when Frank starts initiating & Wally does it purely to make sure Frank is still there. but yeah they get Very comfortable with each other, to the point where when Eddie wakes up he asks Frank - misinterpreting the situation entirely - "if you'd rather have Wally than me, i understand." ofc Frank laughs his ass off bc uhhh no that is Not what their relationship is, Ed
~ similarly, (almost) everyone acclimates to Wally's need to be as close as possible at all feasible times. he's Very physically affectionate and has little to no regard for personal space or boundaries anymore. like, he'll listen when someone asks him to back off or somethn, but until then he does not give a fuck. and this rubs off on the others as they get used to it
and then there's OH WAIT IDK IF I'VE MENTIONED THIS YET but! Wally - during his main exploration phase - found the Welcome Home episode recordings! and he eventually figured out how to work a tv he found, so he added "watch an episode of me and my friends" into his Routine. when the others wake up, he includes them in this. is it horrifying for them at first? yeah. but they get used to it and find similar if not the same comfort and enjoyment in it that Wally does. like in This Scribble, Frank & Wally & Poppy & Howdy are all watching an episode, and are quoting the lines they've memorized. they all cuddle up on a couch together and watch their favorite show <3
& Wally also teaches them (as they wake up) how to repair and care for themselves / each other, sleeping or otherwise. picture a little sewing circle of Frank, Wally, and Poppy, with Poppy giving tips and guidance on how to improve. these sessions provide them with genuine smiles and sometimes even some laughs.
before Wally & Home's divorce, they'd pass much of the time with games! go-fish, charades, i spy, etc. one of their favorites was when Wally would toss a ball at Home's door, and Home would hit it back. additionally, whenever Wally discovered something new, he'd rush back to Home with it - either the information or the actual thing, if he could carry it. ex: when he'd find books or files, he'd bring them to Home and (quietly) read them aloud while resting against them
and just in general know that the Post Office is a place of safety. Wally has made sure it's secure. i like to imagine like... little craft sessions and impromptu dancing lessons and story sharing going on in there among the awake neighbors. they try to have fun despite it all
that's all i can recall for Act One's fluff tidbits rn, but trust me there is More. and also abundant angsty comfort. the downright painful stuff has to earn its existence yk yk this au is Not grimdark

So, I'd like to showcase a few things that I've put on DMsGuild because there's a whole lot more now.
I want to start off with Grimdark & Dangerous. Follower turnover is pretty high on Tumblr, and people go inactive pretty quick. So many people that see this will not be familiar with G&D. It was a huge project for me and I am very proud of it.
Grimdark & Dangerous is a 5e d&d homebrew book available for purchase on DMsGuild for $19.99. It comes as a PDF (for now) and is 159 pages of content geared towards gritty aesthetics. You can follow this link to see my full post on the book or the DMsGuild page here. It has a lot of content and is more than worth the price tag.
While G&D is my biggest item on DMsGuild, I have a nice handful of middle sized docs as well. These are mostly pay what you want (PWYW) titles and quite old. They are also more prone to errors and unintelligible text (where I just started writing and went into a stupor and created something I no longer fully understand).
+ Ancient Artifice Primer for Modern Practitioners (PWYW) - A magic item crafting system which can allow players to create magic items with some degree of value based balancing. It doesn't cover as much as it should in my opinion and is one of those unintelligible texts. However, I do still appreciate my very limited world-building of early runic magic and early graphic design work.
+ Better Backgrounds: 5e Character Building Alternative (PWYW) - A short book on how players can build characters without relying on race based ability score increases. I built on this premise in Grimdark & Dangerous and I'm still quite proud of how I did it in Better Backgrounds. This is a much rougher document than G&D and the writing has a handful of errors, but still decent.
+ The Inheritor: An Artifact and Exploration Class (PWYW) - A homebrew class option. I always say that if you want to play in a game and have a strong connection to the setting, run vestiges (Critical Role), or have a complex backstory this is the class for you. Inheritor characters come with a prebuilt artifact which functions as a growing magic item. You get to customize the item and there is a lot of variability to what your item can do (also includes a modular builder if you aren't very creative). Still pretty proud of this.
+ Mystic Revised (PWYW) - A full remake of the mystic UA class using my own opinions of what it should be. It's based, roughly, on the Nen system in Hunter x Hunter. It's a pretty fun class, but is not very mystic/psionic-y.
+ An Outcast's Notes on the Plane of Pensos - A Planar Adventure Setting for 5e (PWYW) - Don't pay money for this one unless you really genuinely love it. It's an outline and not worth much (IMO). Technically, it can't really even be sold on DMsGuild because it constitutes a homebrew setting (which they don't allow). I created it because I ran (and still do run) this setting and figured it could be a fun thing to share.
+ Plague Pestilence Parasite (PWYW) - A disease book that introduces new mechanics for how contagious diseases spread and how they can be integrated into 5e adventure settings. It also includes a handful of new diseases of varying danger (not all of which are actually threats to player characters). Still a decent book, though I now recognize it lacks some clear writing and has a handful of errors (I may come back and redo this book at some point).
+ Plague Pestilence Parasite: Avolakia Overrun (PWYW) - I don't think I'm really fit to write actual adventure modules, and this book is why. It is an adventure module written to use the rules in Plague Pestilence Parasite. It is still technically an open beta test. It's not unplayable, but I don't think it represents an adventure that players would latch on to (feel free to prove me wrong).
+ The Emissary: An Extraplanar Class (PWYW) - One of my first docs. It's a homebrew class heavily inspired by the Fate/Stay series (has nothing to do with any of the core themes/tropes/abilities of any Fate title) and is actually way more fun than it may sound. The premise: you get a little pocket dimension to store things in and it gives you a variety of powers (the ability to make a little nature preserve, become an auto-crafter, or be Gilgamesh in UBW and launch items at people).
Then there are smaller docs. These are moderately more expensive than most of my short docs (will list those later) but have a significant amount more content than my short docs. These are more recent docs and I generally have higher opinions of them because I was more skilled when I made them.
+ Grimdark Puzzles ($5) - An extension of the themes present in Grimdark & Dangerous. This document contains three (technically 5-6 depending on how you think about it) puzzles that present unique puzzles with dark aesthetics. I really like this doc.
+ From the Dwarven Vault ($1.50) - An item collection themed for dwarven cultures. This does rely a lot on dwarven stereotypes in fantasy, but I did get to bring in some fun things (like burial armor and the DUBA) that I think most people would really appreciate having in their games for lore and aesthetics. Also includes some content for rune carving.
+ From the Elven Vault ($1.50) - Like FTDV, this is a collection of items themed for elves. However, this one is a bit different. While Dwarves are smiths and warriors, elves are crafters. Not just of metal, but most mediums and particularly with mediums that take a great deal of time. If you like crafting in campaigns (if artificer is your favorite class), you want to take a look here because I added in crystal singing and there are three new sets of artisan's tools.
+ Lich Minions: A Lair Building Guide ($2.50) - I really liked making this doc and I am very happy with it. This is a guide for making lairs when your BBEG is a lich. It includes a variety of undead themed minions and how they fit into a lich's minion hierarchy. Each minion has some unique difference from their generic variety or are outright unique, they all have stat blocks. This is a really good resource if you want to do a short dungeon run campaign or a siege campaign. I plan on making more docs like this and I really enjoy this format.
Finally, I have my short docs (there's a lot of these). For simplicity I'll break these into two sub-categories: "Encounter With" and "Subclass".
The “encounter with” docs are short docs that include information on a unique or updated monster, a specific NPC, or a type of NPC. Each is given a stat block, has an outline of what kind of hazards are in the same area as this creature, and lists what kind of loot you might be able to gather from encountering this monster. These encounters include:
+ Archchancellor Ensiid
+ Dracolich Gollryn
+ The Athach
+ The Beholdra
+ The Boom Goblin
+ The Chaos Beast
+ The Destrachan
+ The Drow Paleweaver
+ The Introspective Terror
+ The Lifeblood Magus
+ The Musclemancer
+ The Non-Phaneron Beast (note the cover of this doc is intentional, as the beast does not have a visible form)
+ The Pale Widow
+ The Silkscale Coiler
+ The Soliptic Nightmare
+ The Sunken Effigy
+ The Venomous Plesiodrake
+ The Werewolf Lord
(I feel like I'm missing one...). All encounters have a $0.50 or $0.75 price tag depending on if the encounter features an original or converted stat block.
The subclasses are just that, subclass docs. I really love making subclasses and I try not to burn out on them because I have so many subclass WIPs I want to do. These subclasses include:
+ Druid: Circle of the Grove (Plant druid. Why doesn't this exist already?)
+ Druid: Circle of Witchcraft (Discworld witches, love this one)
+ Fighter: Blade Drifter (I just want to link a song from the Sonic Riders franchise here, but they're all so corny)
+ Ranger: Hell Skulker (nine hells/abyss ranger, also really like this one)
+ Warlock: The Greatwyrm (DRAGON PATRON! Why doesn't this exist already?)
These subclasses all have a $0.75 price tag. I will probably be making a lot more of these, they just take a bit longer than the encounter docs.
