Green Net for Construction: Why It's Essential for Builders
In the construction industry, safety and efficiency are paramount. Green net for construction has emerged as a vital component, ensuring both. This article delves into what green construction netting is, how it works, and why it's indispensable for builders.
Tumblr media
Understanding Green Net for Construction
Green net for construction is a type of safety netting made from durable, UV-stabilised materials, designed to withstand the rigours of construction environments. It serves multiple purposes, from safeguarding workers and passersby from falling debris to reducing dust and providing shade.
How Green Construction Netting Works
This netting functions as a barrier, catching or containing debris that may fall from heights. It also acts as a green shade net for construction, offering protection against the sun and creating a more comfortable work environment. The construction shade net significantly reduces the heat and allows better airflow, which is crucial for maintaining a safe and productive job site.
The Benefits of using Green Shade Net for Construction
One of the primary advantages of using a green shade net for construction is the enhanced safety it provides. By preventing accidents and injuries, it ensures that projects adhere to safety regulations and standards. Moreover, the shade net construction technique helps in controlling the site's temperature, which can lead to increased worker efficiency and reduced risk of heat-related health issues.
Why Builders should use Green Net for Construction
Using green netting is not just about compliance with safety standards but also about its long-term benefits. It can lead to cost savings by minimising the risk of accidents. Furthermore, these nets can help in containing construction materials, reducing waste, and minimising environmental impact, aligning with sustainable construction practices.
Choosing the Right Green Net for Your Construction Project
Selecting the appropriate netting involves considering factors like mesh size, material durability, and UV resistance. The right choice ensures that the netting will perform effectively throughout the construction phase, offering reliability and peace of mind.
Conclusion
Green net for construction is more than just a regulatory requirement; it's a critical tool for enhancing safety, efficiency, and sustainability on construction sites. Builders who prioritise the use of these nets are investing in their project's success and the well-being of their workforce.

The Growing Popularity of Sustainable Construction: Green Building Trends 2022
The Growing Popularity of Sustainable Construction: Green Building Trends 2022
Technology is a high-quality enterprise because it has advanced the human lifestyle and the field at large. Green buildings have changed into the simplest buzzword until the last decade, which was first limited to international locations and communities. But developing beliefs and trends around weather extra and international warming have led to a desire for extras in a dignified location. In…

so, inspired by the warm welcome the captain received with that rough doodle i posted, i made an updated design for Ki'ita as well (basic and with clothes)
i removed the piercings she had bc considering that they spend the majority of their time in arctic waters i think having metal directly in your skin is a bad idea, no matter how thick your blubber is; i also gave her typical white markings a green hue bc ... i liked how it looked and makes them stand out a little more
(i will not repeat what i wrote on the post about the captain but wanted to add a bit of more info about Ki'ita herself)
(i dont have ALL of their backstory done yet but) the captain and Ki'ita worked together in another organization, one in which the father of the captains child also worked at, before being betrayed and barely managing to escape, after which the both of them founded their pirate crew (possible name is the Solar Pirates bc of their solar powered boat stuff); since the captain had her daughter shortly afterwards Ki'ita managed most of the organisational matters at first, including the construction of their base on an abandoned island they had initially fled to
over the years they invented the solar powered ships that allowed them to gain control over a large part of an important trade route, leaving normal ships (mostly) alone but attacking those of hunters and similar, rescuing demons and mutants, even some humans from them, most of which also join the crew and it quickly lead to them becoming their own little community
Ki'ita does not like to spend alot of time among large groups of people, no matter how much she cares about them, and her originally being from norther lands gave her the idea to explore, and if viable, do underground missions in those norther areas to disrupt the infrastructure the hunters had built in recent years and overall keep the crew informed about things that may otherwise stay hidden; with each of their travels her time absent from the base increased but the patience of the captain is wearing thin so its likely a serious talk is underway on Ki'itas third solo mission she nearly died due to entanglement in abandoned nets made by hunters from an unknown material that she could not break, the massive scars on her tail especially come from that, only surviving bc the date they were supposed to return to the crew had passed and the captain grew to worried about her and made the entire crew rush into an emergency search, including the captain herself and her toddler, who were not suited for the cold climate just like the rest of crew, taking a huge risk that Ki'ita still feels ashamed of for causing; they stayed within the base for a whole year afterwards, not just to recover but also as a silent apology, taking time preparing herself to ensure theyd not get into a situation like that again
(before departing on their next mission the captain gifted her a sword with the blade made from the material of the net, a wooden handle, bc of the cold, and a blue wrap around it reminiscent of the captains striking blue teeth; a reminder of what had happened, a means to defend herself when their strength and teeth are not enough, and also a promise to always return again)
the oldest members of the crew know Ki'ita well and treat her like an old friend, among the newer members she has more of a .. cryptic status, the mysteriously absent vice-captain who only appears every few months or so out of thin air, throws a big party, sleeps for a few days and then vanishes again, the only hint to when they will return soon again being the captain getting noticably grumpier
(OC art, Ki'ita, she/they)

One Dress a Day Challenge
July: Green Redux (+ Blue Redux)
Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries (s3e1, "Death Defying Feats") / Essie Davis as Phryne Fisher
This mint-green dress has a very interesting construction: it is called a tabard dress, with sleeve-frills attached by ropes of beads, worn over a base dress of the same material as the "sleeves." When it was exhibited in 2015, it was described as "1920’s green silk net with luminescent sequins and bugle beads"--which sounds like it may be a vintage piece.
This episode is quite the source for Miss Fisher costumes, as it also included Dot's orange dress and Phryne's midnight blue dress with the lace overlay. I'm also including a nice shot of the crescent-shaped hairpiece--from the front, as the side shot is out of focus.

It’s funny at one post you mention Robin!Dick being possibly the scariest one of them when you consider that
1) Jason literally once used a firearm to fend off some goons covering Batman
2) Tim literally has a mini Batmobile he can control with an RC radio called The Redbird
3) While Tim had a bo staff, all Dick really hand at most were two sticks plus he was the one wearing green pixie boots
Not saying Robin!Dick was in any way outclassed by the latter two but it’s funny he got that rep around Gotham’s underground as a small child
Original post in reference
Yes!!
Like Jason had used a gun and almost used the sharp end of a Batarang and Tim had a whole robotic machine at his disposal, but it's absolutely hilarious that Dick terrorized the town in little green gloves and short-shorts!
His original entrance didn't even have a weapon, his weapon was being a full on psycho!

Batman (1940) Issue #1
Guerrilla warfare at its peak. I can literally hear that "boing" through the comic panel.
This kid was a nightmare for villains - post
Later he used a sling shot of all things

Detective Comics Issue #38
LOOK AT THE WICKED GRIN ON HIS FACE!!
He's using a construction crane as a crime fighting device, no net below or anything!!
I firmly believe Dick terrorized the Gotham underworld for the sole fact that they couldn't come to terms with his insanity. When you look at some of the stuff Dick did as robin, even the Joker's madness starts making sense and then put that ball of craziness next to the gloomiest, most anti-criminal man in existence as his back up?
The criminals were right to be worried! They're fighting for their lives and he's fighting for fun!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That little blue glob there? under Dick's feet? that's a man screaming on his way down.
But Dick on the other hand?

Chapter 2
At first, I felt cold then I felt a searing pain in my head. When I opened my eyes I was greeted by strings of fluorescent lights hanging from a cave ceiling. Glow worms? I looked around seeing that I was in a tent-like structure made out of rope nets. As soon as I sat up, trying to regain any kind of information as to how I got here. Then it hit me. That man knocked me out! The nerve! Another pulse of that searing pain came over me. I hissed and brought my hand up to my head as a result. Gosh, it hurts. If I get a life-altering concussion then I am suing. Although I am not sure how you sue a possible undercover mutant agent.
I looked around and suddenly realized that I'm not in my swimsuit. In fact, I am in an intricately embroidered brown dress with green accents which means someone changed me whiles I was unconscious. Panic creeps up in me. What is going on?! Before I can think any further I hear a shy voice call out.
I quickly turn around and I see this light blue-skinned girl with a mask over her mouth. She called out again in what I would assume is her language. She walked closer to me and looked at me with her soft brown eyes and then at the bowl of fruits she was holding. She reached out and called once more.
"Is this for me?" I ask while motioning the food to me. She pushes the bowl to me once more. I hesitantly grab a yellow fruit and examine it. It may be poisonous but what can do I? I don't know where I am or if I can find my way home and I'm so hungry. I take a bite. It was tangy and sweet. I kinda liked it. She put the bowl next to me and said something then motioned towards the exit and began walking. I watched her until she stopped and looked at me.
"You want me to follow you?" I asked motioning toward the exit. She said something and waited so I followed her. The cave was gorgeous and surrounded by little vibrant pools of water. She walked me to a little cabin. Once there she opened the curtain entrance to the cabin and waited. Assuming she wanted me to go inside, I went in and she left.
The first thing I noticed was the murals on the walls. It was beautifully painted and upon further inspection, I realized it looked Mayan-inspired though I can't say I'm an expert. Come to think of it, his earrings and jewelry remind me a lot of the ones on these figures in the murals. I noticed a small table filled with more fruits, a bed, and baskets as well as a big ceramic vase. I looked at each of the murals and saw how they portrayed different stories. I was so invested that I nearly stepped foot in a bowl of paint. When I looked up at the mural in front of me, I saw a Mayan warrior fighting a big panther. It seems to be the latest in the collection.
"Do you like it?"
I knew that voice. I turned and saw him. He had more clothes than last time, wearing what seemed to be a shawl. "I do," I answered. "Though I wonder. Did you really kidnap me so that you can show off your room?" He chuckled a little. "No...no I have more important matters to discuss than paintings. Please sit." He motioned to the chair closest to me. I sat down.
"I have watched you for quite some time now." He hands me a glass, I accept it and hesitantly drink. Taste like some kind of tea. " I know of your frustrations with your line of work, constantly being pushed aside for a "quick buck" as you put it." He looked up at me and continued.
"I also know that the only thing that seems to calm you is the sea, the currents' pull is something you greatly appreciate. I believe this is our common interest." He takes a sip of his tea and I find my eyes lingering on his lips. "I fear the leaders of the surface are hoping to take my home's resources and my ally may not be willing to take the necessary actions to protect it. That's where you come in. If we can develop your powers more, it could be the asset we need to keep the leaders of your world from further plundering and polluting our seas."
Wait what does he mean by "leaders of the surface"? Are we not in a cave somewhere? I feel my heartbeat rising. We're underwater. How deep? As if on cue I realize that the nausea and discomfort I've been feeling were not from the hit but from under water pressure. "Who are you? And what is this place?" I ask. He leans back on this chair and takes a deep breath before answering.
"I go by many names. My people call me Auh Ku'kulkan but my enemies call me Namor... As for where we are" He stands up and walks to my side of the table till he's right next to me and staring me down. I kept eye contact. I wish I could say it was because of fear to look away but something was telling me that that was not the only reason. His eyes were drawing me in and I felt a need to follow. "We are in an underwater cave closest to my home, Talokan." He turns away and looks towards the murals. "We have stayed hidden for centuries. Away from those who seek to exploit us and what we have. But recent events have forced us to consider revealing ourselves." He begins to walk back to his seat. "Of course now that you know this I cannot let you leave regardless of your personal wishes." with that he sat down.
"What happens if I refuse to help you?" I asked.
"You will remain here till you die. If you try to escape you will be killed." He said bluntly and took a bite of one of the fruits by the table. My shoulders sank. Is this all real? A fish man and an underwater civilization at the brink of war with the world above and he's asking for me to choose between living as his soldier or imprisonment? This is too much to take in. Seeing my internal struggle he takes my hand in his. "I am not asking of anything that you will regret but I understand that you may need time to process the idea. I will give you a day." He calls out in another language and the blue-skinned woman comes in. They converse and then he turns to me and says.
"This is Zyanya. She will be your caretaker and show you where you will stay." He then motions for me to go which I do. Zyanya brings me back to the tent but this time it's covered in big tapestries so you can no longer see the worms from inside. I move towards the bed and begin to take off my jewelry. Reality starts to set in. How am I going to leave? Will I ever be able to see my friends again? I begin to tear up until finally, I break down and cry like I've never done before. I feel Zyanyas hand rubbing my back. Am I ever going to be free from this?

The Dark Side of Sports Stadiums
Billionaires have found one more way to funnel our tax dollars into their bank accounts: sports stadiums. And if we don’t play ball, they’ll take our favorite teams away.
Ever notice how there never seems to be enough money to build public infrastructure like mass transit lines and better schools? And yet, when a multi-billion-dollar sports team demands a new stadium, our local governments are happy to oblige.
A good example of this billionaire boondoggle is the host of the 2023 Super Bowl: State Farm Stadium.
That's where the Arizona Cardinals have played since 2006. It was finally built after billionaire team owner Michael Bidwill and his family spent years hinting that they would move the Cards out of Arizona if the team didn't get a new stadium. Their blitz eventually worked, with Arizona taxpayers and the city of Glendale paying over two thirds of the $455 million construction tab.
And State Farm Stadium is not unique. It’s part of a well established playbook.
Here’s how stadiums stick the public with the bill.
Step 1: Billionaire buys a sports team.
Just about every NFL franchise owner has a net worth of over a billion dollars — except for the Green Bay Packers, who are publicly owned by half a million cheeseheads.
The same goes for many franchise owners in other sports. Their fortunes don’t just help them buy teams, but also give them clout — which they cash-in when they want to get a great deal on new digs for their team.
Step 2: Billionaire pressures local government.
Since 1990, franchises in major North American sports leagues have intercepted upwards of $30 billion worth of taxpayer funds from state and local governments to build stadiums.
And the funding itself is just the beginning of these sweetheart deals.
Sports teams often get big property tax breaks and reimbursements on operating expenses, like utilities and security on game days. Most deals also let the owners keep the revenue from naming rights, luxury box seats, and concessions — like the Atlanta Braves’ $150 hamburger.
Even worse, these deals often put taxpayers on the hook for stadium maintenance and repairs.
We taxpayers are essentially paying for the homes of our favorite sports teams, but we don’t really own those homes, we don’t get to rent them out, and we still have to buy expensive tickets to visit them.
Whenever these billionaire owners try to sell us on a shiny new stadium, they claim it will spur economic growth from which we’ll all benefit.  But numerous studies have shown that this is false.
As a University of Chicago economist aptly put it, "If you want to inject money into the local economy, it would be better to drop it from a helicopter than invest it in a new ballpark."
But what makes sports teams special is they are one of the few realms of collective identity we have left.
Billionaires prey on the love that millions of fans have for their favorite teams.
This brings us to the final step in the playbook: Threaten to move the team.
Obscenely rich owners threaten to — or actually do — rip teams out of their communities if they don’t get the subsidies they demand.
Just look at the Seattle Supersonics. Starbucks’ founder Howard Schultz owned the NBA franchise but failed to secure public funding to build a new stadium. So the coffee magnate sold the team to another wealthy businessman who moved it to Oklahoma.
The most egregious part of how the system currently works is that every dollar we spend building stadiums is a dollar we aren’t using for hospitals or housing or schools.
We are underfunding public necessities in order to funnel money to billionaires for something they could feasibly afford.
So, instead of spending billions on extravagant stadiums, we should be investing taxpayer money in things that improve the lives of everyone — not just the bottom lines of profitable sports teams and their owners.
Because when it comes to stadium deals, the only winners are billionaires.

GL Jazz Anger Management
Ok this shit is like half made but I know that I Will Not finish this so fuck it we ball.
Heavily influenced (and encouraged) by @gilbirda
Jazz is an Arkham Asylum Psychologist who’s been on staff for roughly three years at this point. Jason has been assigned to work undercover as a Arkham Security Guard to try to scope out and stop the next breakout that Batman has heard whispers about.
Jazz and Jason have very similar shifts. Jason is instantly pinned as someone who could handle their stronger patients. This makes him almost always automatically assigned with helping transport the more physically menacing asylum patients to their therapy sessions. Jason and Jazz had similar shifts so Jazz frequently saw Jason in the staff break room or assigned to follow her patient into her office to make sure they didn’t try to attack any other patients or staff. (Jazz could handle herself no problem, but protocol is protocol.)
Sure enough, the rumors for the breakout were true. Jason overheard their plans but just a tad too late. The breakout was happening tonight and he was severely underprepared for handling something this big with this short of a deadline. Damn it. Jason was just getting to know Jazz really well. He asked her on a date set for next week but he might be too preoccupied trying to wrangle these villains to show up.
Low and behold: There is a breakout. Head of the breakout being Scarface (The Ventriloquist) and Two-Face. (Jason doesn’t know which shift fucked up and managed to let an entire ass veltriloquist doll get a green light past security but he damn well knew it wasn’t his.) Dozens upon dozens of patients were out of their cells and stormed the building as alarms and lights blared at nearly deafening levels.
Suddenly, a deafening crash shakes the building. Chunks of the ceiling rain down onto the angry mob of Arkham patients as something small and green flies through the wall of the building and finally rests on Jazz’s hand. Jason is far too far away to do anything to help. In his Red Hood uniform, he’s busy subduing the angry mob one criminally insane patient at a time. The design was reminiscent of the Green Lantern rings but a strange skull shaped emblem on the top of the skull made him think otherwise.
Jazz knew that this was the ring of rage. It was calling to her. She somehow just knew that Danny had rejected the ring and that she was the nearest liminal on earth with the strongest will to be an acceptable wielder of the ring. Jazz looks at the angry mob and back at the ring. Sure, she could take on a few dozen goons and patients before getting overwhelmed, but with the ring she could do something about this. Protect the people she cared for, fight for what’s right.
Jazz puts on the ring.
-Draw Jazz GL outfit but inspired by the Ring of Rage.
-Jazz closes her eyes as she can feel knowledge of how to control the ring suddenly flood her brain. A strange suit of green light envelops her body that glows a bright toxic green. Bright green fenton blasters, hammers, force field barriers, and mixed martial arts to subdue the rowdy patients. Balls of green light encase the unconscious patients and float them back into their rooms, keeping them out of the fight. Jazz is a force of nature, plowing a clean line of goons and criminally insane individuals down to get to Two Face and The Ventriloquist.
Jason blinks heavily because Jazz is now holding a strange bazooka that seems to be cobbled together out of household items, duct tape, and pure willpower because there is no way that thing should be functional.
The mortar doesn’t shoot Two-Face but instead turns instantly into a net the second it makes contact with his body.
-Jazz then gets to work fixing up her workplace. Using her constructs to repair and fix the broken bits of ceiling and hallway until they looked like they were never broken in the first place.
-Jason, staring at the now fully fixed Asylum with every patient locked in their appropriate room, is still reeling from what just happened. He no longer has to worry about the threat of his date being put off, but now he has another issue.
-Jason tells Jazz that he’s gonna need to bring her to the watchtower for questioning and to meet the other GL’s.
-They go to the watchtower and The GL’s that Jason tells to meet them there instantly clock that Jazz isn’t a normal Green Lantern.
-the GL’s are kinda shocked because they haven’t seen a Ghost Sector GL before. They thought they were just a rumor. Jokes on them, they’re real. It’s a subset of Green Lanterns that patrol various sectors of the Ghost Zone like the regular Green Lanterns patrol sectors of the universe.
- Their chest emblem is more like that ghost skull on the ring of rage. Her hair is more flamelike and etherial and she looks physically more unreal. Jason is shocked that the one girl he thought he might have something going for him got superpowers. Just his luck. He’s not complaining tho, he’s happy that Jazz can fully protect and defend herself and doesn’t have to worry about her. (He still very much so worries but not as much)
- Jazz and Jason have a sorta long distance/short distance relationship. Jazz spends her time patrolling the GZ but whenever she’s needed on earth, she always takes time to visit Jason. They are very very sweet with each other and are a fuckin literal power duo. You mess with their S.O.? Next second be prepared to be staring down the barrel of either a corporeal or incorporeal looking gun. Either one will hurt like hell.

Got my comp set up at my inlaws so I am back on the net! Time to get into chimera variants! Buckle up this is an info dump below.
Chimera actually get their common name because they come in a LOT of different shapes once their society advances enough to discover magical body modification. Something that I’m going to have to make a few posts about but these are the ‘starting styles’ so to say. They are based off of different populations in Mirum who occupied different areas of the continent prior to chimera becoming one unified culture.
Coastal- These chimera are living the closest to the ancestral chimeric niche. They live in the island chains and Western/Southern coasts of Mirum, live in very small nomadic family groups. Most distinguishing features of them is the fact that their faceplate does not fully flatten out upon maturity, leaving them with a much wider field of view and a more streamlined body. They also have partially fused trunks, much wider splayed toes, and long thin teeth. These are the fellas built for a much more aquatic life, fast swimmers but a little clonky on land.
Plains- The stock standard. These are the most common ethnicity of chimera by a mile, populating the vast floodplains of the continents interior. They are lean and quick on their feet, with endurance equal to their speed. The majority of their diet still relies on the waterways around their settlements, but they don’t turn their nose up at fruit and veggies. Think of them as the transitional form, venturing into spending most of their time on land, but still very tied to the water. They live in large towns with many different families coming and going, sometimes far enough to run into the others!
Alpine- Short and stout, these fellas are pretty much the only variety of chimera able to inhabit Mirum’s Southern mountain chain. They are built for the cold, with much more bristled nostrils and bellows to keep out the chill and padded toes to help them climb their rocky home. These guys aren’t particularly fast but they really have no need to be for these are the only chimera that don’t regularly worry about predation, the largest carnivores in the mountains are terrestrial birds which very rarely target larger prey. Their main worry is food, they have moved off of fish to meat, leading to them going from actively hunting to more trapping and farming. They live in small towns with very few ever leaving aside from trading, but that’s not infallible.
Forest- From the forest/jungle covering the Eastern side of the continent come the largest of the chimera, these guys are tall and lean. By far the fastest yet quickest to tire, they’re the most magic reliant of the bunch. The classic squishy caster. They live a calm life and worry far more about Antlerworms than Histin, so they are able to be a bit more lax on their building construction. Their towns are small but known for large sprawling buildings, often built around and through some of the larger trees in their range. Again they have weaned off of fish somewhat, but still actively chase down their meat. For their greens they have taken to orchards within felled portions of forest.
That’s the basic ideas, but all of them have far more in common with each other than not. They all ‘speak’ the same ‘language’, recognize the same creator, and generally no issue with accepting others into their communities. As time goes on the boarders between them begin to blur until most chimera have a little of every background within them.

The Civil Nuclear Roadmap includes exploring the construction of a major new power station, £300 million ($382 million) of investment to produce an advanced uranium fuel and "smarter regulation".
Taken together, the measures would quadruple UK nuclear power by 2050 to 24 gigawatts, enough to provide a quarter of the UK's electricity needs.
"Nuclear is the perfect antidote to the energy challenges facing Britain -- it's green, cheaper in the long-term and will ensure the UK's energy security," said Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
"This is the right long-term decision and is the next step in our commitment to nuclear power, which puts us on course to achieve net zero by 2050 in a measured and sustainable way," he added.
The government says it is committed to the 2050 net zero target but has come under fire after announcing last summer it will issue "hundreds" of new oil and gas licences in the North Sea.
It is also grappling with a cost-of-living crisis partly caused by the spike in oil and gas prices following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Energy minister Claire Coutinho said the plans would mean the UK would "never again be held to ransom over energy by tyrants like Vladimir Putin".
The government said the proposals represented "the biggest expansion of nuclear power for 70 years", adding it would "reduce electricity bills, support thousands of jobs and improve UK energy security".
Construction
The most eye-catching proposal is the possible construction of another power station as big as Sizewell in east England, construction on which is due to begin this year, and Hinkley in west England, which is currently under construction.
Both power stations will be capable of powering six million homes each.
The UK currently has nine operational nuclear reactors on five sites but many are nearing the end of their operating lives.
Six reactors on three sites have been shut down since 2021 and will be dismantled.
However, operator EDF announced in March that it was extending the life of two British power plants -- Heysham 1 and Hartlepool.
The UK intends to build up to eight new reactors by 2050.
The government said on Sunday it will invest up to £300 million into producing the HALEU fuel required for new high-tech reactors, and which currently is only commercially produced in Russia.
"The UK will lead the way from its North West production hub to provide the world with this form of uranium fuel, with the first plant aiming to be operational early in the next decade," said the government.
Regulators will also be allowed to assess projects while designs are finalised in a loosening of rules aimed at speeding along construction plans.

"The amount of electricity generated by the UK’s gas and coal power plants fell by 20% last year, with consumption of fossil fuels at its lowest level since 1957.
Not since Harold Macmillan was the UK prime minister and the Beatles’ John Lennon and Paul McCartney met for the first time has the UK used less coal and gas.
The UK’s gas power plants last year generated 31% of the UK’s electricity, or 98 terawatt hours (TWh), according to a report by the industry journal Carbon Brief, while the UK’s last remaining coal plant produced enough electricity to meet just 1% of the UK’s power demand or 4TWh.
Fossil fuels were squeezed out of the electricity system by a surge in renewable energy generation combined with higher electricity imports from France and Norway and a long-term trend of falling demand.
Higher power imports last year were driven by an increase in nuclear power from France and hydropower from Norway in 2023. This marked a reversal from 2022 when a string of nuclear outages in France helped make the UK a net exporter of electricity for the first time.
Carbon Brief found that gas and coal power plants made up just over a third of the UK’s electricity supplies in 2023, while renewable energy provided the single largest source of power to the grid at a record 42%.
It was the third year this decade that renewable energy sources, including wind, solar, hydro and biomass power, outperformed fossil fuels [in the UK], according to the analysis. Renewables and Britain’s nuclear reactors, which generated 13% of electricity supplies last year, helped low-carbon electricity make up 55% of the UK’s electricity in 2023.
[Note: "Third year this decade" refers to the UK specifically, not global; there are several countries that already run on 100% renewable energy, and more above 90% renewable. Also, though, there have only been four years this decade so far! So three out of four is pretty good!]
Tumblr media
Dan McGrail, the chief executive of RenewableUK, said the data shows “the central role that wind, solar and other clean power sources are consistently playing in Britain’s energy transition”.
“We’re working closely with the government to accelerate the pace at which we build new projects and new supply chains in the face of intense global competition, as everyone is trying to replicate our success,” McGrail said.
Electricity from fossil fuels was two-thirds lower in 2023 compared with its peak in 2008, according to Carbon Brief. It found that coal has dropped by 97% and gas by 43% in the last 15 years.
Coal power is expected to fall further in 2024 after the planned shutdown of Britain’s last remaining coal plant in September. The Ratcliffe on Soar coal plant, owned by the German utility Uniper, is scheduled to shut before next winter after generating power for over 55 years.
Renewable energy has increased sixfold since 2008 as the UK has constructed more wind and solar farms, and the large Drax coal plant has converted some of its generating units to burn biomass pellets.
Electricity demand has tumbled by 22% since its peak in 2005, according to the data, as part of a long-term trend driven by more energy efficient homes and appliances as well as a decline in the UK’s manufacturing sector.
Demand for electricity is expected to double as the UK aims to cut emissions to net zero by 2050 because the plan relies heavily on replacing fossil fuel transport and heating with electric alternatives.
In recent weeks [aka at the end of 2023], offshore wind developers have given the green light to another four large windfarms in UK waters, including the world’s largest offshore windfarm at Hornsea 3, which will be built off the North Yorkshire coast by Denmark’s Ørsted."

Ko-Fi Prompt from @apprendere:
Economics topic: ethical investing (what definitions are they using when companies like amazon are on lists of ethical/social/green stocks?)
This one took me a bit of research 😅
My first instinct is that those are frequently greenwashing, and that any individual company needs to be investigated for those claims, personally, before actually going ahead to invest. I'm generally hesitant to call most investment/stocks ethical, but there are ways and reasons for ethics in the given industry (as discussed here with @rhokitten and @dasnya).
Green-chip stocks are, by name, a play on blue-chip stocks (established, stable, reliable companies that are unlikely to waver overly much if the economy takes a bad turn). Green chip companies are those that claim to be environmentally sustainable, or to support the environment in some way. If the company in question is one that works directly in environmental sustainability, such as solar panels or wind farms or organic farming tools, that's probably not a lie.
However... you also get companies like Ford claiming to be green. Now, from what I can tell so far, they have been cutting down on carbon emissions for two decades now, but any large company that historically relies on gas or oil claiming to be green is... a bit questionable. The Climate Town video on Carbon Offsets is a good primer on understanding how large transportation and vehicle manufacturing companies can use 'green' language to claim progress while effectively not changing any of their practices. With Ford, we've seen minor cuts in manufacturing pollution, but as this Guardian article points out, they still advertise for massive cars with terrible mpg... which is a related issue, because said massive cars, the SUVs and 'extended cab' pickups are unregulated compared to sedans and other, smaller vehicles (see: Not Just Bikes video).
Ford spends a lot of money advertising a car that is the opposite of green, and doesn't actually provide a use for the vast majority of people buying it. Unless you work in an industry where you need to haul large, dirty equipment on the regular, like on a farm or in construction or landscaping, you don't need a pick-up truck. And if you do work in those industries, an extended cab is generally not helpful.
So Ford is talking good game, but... is it following through? That's up for debate.
You mentioned Amazon, so I went to look at their Climate Pledge Fund. They mention a "net-zero carbon goal," which already sends up red flags, as explained in the aforementioned Carbon Offsets video. They do seem to be investing in a lot of companies that will theoretically make their future work have less of an environmental impact; the companies include electric vehicles, renewable energy, and custom packaging to reduce waste. It all sounds good.
But what do the critics say?
In this Thomson Reuters Foundation article, Khalil Abdullah addresses how Amazon has historically hidden most of its information on environmental impacts, engaged in a number of greenwashing campaigns, and shoved numbers on its enormous pollution under the rug. Yet, despite this, it remains on the list of companies that the ESG (environmental, social, and governance) investors consider a viable choice, because it's... easy. It's a good investment financially, so they can just... look away from the complications, because the money and reputation is enough.
In my eyes, the concept of green stock is yet another form of greenwashing, one with no actual, specified definition, which means it's about as useful in understanding your investments as words like 'organic.' Unfortunately, it looks like this is going to continue being one of the ways companies lie to us, and any individual investment needs to be examined thoroughly before we can figure out what it is that we're actually supporting.
My suggestion would be to look into companies that are acting directly in support of environmentalism (solar and wind are probably safe), have a long and transparent history of environmentalism, from before it was trendy, or are small, local, and maybe new enough that they aren't killing the environment in the name of economies of scale.
Maybe if you get in early enough, you can grab enough shares to have a positive impact on future green initiatives!
(Prompt me on ko-fi!)

It was supposed to be an easy mission, catch the anomaly and go home. But when is it ever easy, really? You had received an alert on the watch from LYLA to meet Miguel in his office for a debriefing of the mission, an easy in-and-out type of mission. It didn’t turn out that way, not by a long shot.
The anomaly was a rogue Curt Connors, known as the Lizard, he was never supposed to be as powerful as he was but variants are unpredictable and both of you should’ve seen it coming. Curt Connors had breached E-928 sometime after midnight, he had hidden himself in an abandoned building that still had some construction necessities left over. Miguel had taken the lead in the fight against Connors while you followed shortly behind him.
 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You and Miguel work fluidly together, like notes of a symphony, switching sides to sling webbing over the larger-than-average Lizard as he slashed his sharp talons at the two of you violently and hissed wildly. Miguel takes the lead and wraps his neon scarlet webbing around the Lizard’s arms and shoulders, he planted his feet firmly on the concrete floor below his towering frame and dug his heels in as he tugged on the webbing harshly. You quickly wrap your own set of webbing around the Lizard to do the same as Miguel to hold the humanoid reptile still, just as you planted your feet a tale violently whips out and slams into your side which sends you flying across the open room your in.
You cry out harshly as the hit knocks the air from your lungs and your body slams against the harsh material of the concrete floor, landing in a heap as you attempt to catch your breath. You slowly push yourself onto your hands and knees as you heave, your lungs suck in as much air as they’re capable as the sounds of fighting continue in the background of your ringing ears. You lift your head up and watch as Miguel is thrown into a pile of construction material, your ears catch his cry of pain and your senses are pushed into high alert.
“Miguel!”, Your voice carries across the empty space with desperation filling your tone, you see the Lizard launch himself onto Miguel’s downed figure as you sprint forward. You throw yourself onto the Lizard’s back from behind just as he claws into Miguel’s chest, your arms reaching forward to wrap around the giant reptile’s broad neck. You hold your hands out and shoot webs towards his wrists quickly and yank them harshly backward to web them against his scaly chest. Miguel remains on the ground which sends a spike through your body at the prospect that he’s injured enough to stay down, you shake the thought from your mind to concentrate on taking down the Lizard who had begun to wildly thrash around in your grip.
You see a faint orange light coming from behind you and the sound of a portal opening, a motorcycle revs loudly as it emerges from the glowing dimensional portal. You glance out of the corner of your eye to see Jessica Drew landing a few feet away on the seat of her motorcycle, the engine roaring as the sound cuts through the nighttime air. A red net-like material is sent flying through the air from Jessica so you quickly jump away from the green reptilian quickly as the red net attaches to him and traps him within it. Your attention is brought back over to Miguel’s barely moving form, you feel a sharp pang in your chest as your body lurches forward as you sprint towards him.
“Miguel!”, You shout out as you fall to your knees beside him, you can see blood had started to puddle beside his body and see the sharp end of a large section of rebar through his side just below his ribcage along with the gashes across his chest from the set of claws that had slashed at him. Your hands press around the wound carefully and hear a whine come from the man before you, you quickly shush him softly as you think of how to get him transported back to HQ. Miguel’s hands envelop your own as your fingertips prod around the wounds on his side, his stubbornness seems to cloud his mind as he pushes your hands away and forces himself to lift off of the rebar that was attached to the concrete floor despite your hurried protests. Your hands reach out to wrap around his waist carefully but ready to hold him up in case he fell, he forces himself to stay on his feet but is only able to walk forward a few steps before falling to one knee. You quickly grab his arm and wrap it around your shoulders as you tell him reassuring whispers, your heart squeezes in your chest painfully as you worry over him.
Your hand presses firmly onto the deep wound the rebar had created as you support most of his weight due to your spider physiology, you open up a new portal directly into the med bay and lead him into it. As soon as his feet touch the smooth tile of the spider med bay, he collapses onto his front and pulls you down with him although you’re able to catch yourself with your hands. Your hands make quick work of turning him over onto his back and pressing into the wound as the shock from the med team wore off and they charged forward to assist. You’re gently shoved away from Miguel and watch as they lift him onto a gurney to wheel him into the back area where they could treat his wounds.
  ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your hand clutches his as you sit at Miguel’s bedside, they had to remove some debris from his side leftover from the rebar and clean up the deep gashes on his chest. Your eyes stare into the side of his peaceful face as he remained asleep, you knew his wounds shouldn’t take too long to heal but you couldn’t help but worry. You loved him but couldn’t find the courage to tell him just yet, this incident had scared you deeply and you had decided that you should tell him soon. You begged in your mind for him to open up those reddish brown eyes you love so much, you hated to see him this way as it was rare for Miguel to get hurt while on a mission due to him always being so careful. You had refused to leave his side since he was placed in his current room, your suit was still covered in blood as well as your hands although the thick red substance had long dried.
You had just laid your head down against the bed near his hand and your eyelids had just begun to close when you heard a soft groan come from above you, your head instantly snapped up to look at the hulk of a man whose eyes had begun to flutter open from his unconsciousness state. His name falls off your tongue in a whisper as shock fills your senses, you hadn’t expected him to wake up so soon and thought he would’ve slept long into the next day maybe two. Your hands shake as they clutch his, waiting for his senses to stabilize and for him to look at you. When his eyes finally meet yours, tears gather in your own e/c eyes when you fully realize he is awake and you weren’t just imagining it.
“Hey, how are you feeling?”, You manage to ask through your relieved tears, you quickly reach up and wipe your cheek with your wrist. Miguel stares at your hands for a moment and a grimace appears on his lips, his eyes flick back to yours swiftly,
“I’m fine.”, Miguel spoke, an obvious lie due to his stubborn nature. You sigh softly as you look down at your joined hands,
“You don’t have to lie to me, Mig.”, You mumble softly, loud enough for him to hear you but low enough so the medics can’t hear your conversation. You look back up at him and see an emotion that you’re unable to read in his eyes, you don’t know whether to be concerned or scared. You aren’t given the chance to respond as Miguel tugs on your hand and you stumble into his chest with a soft ‘oof’ escaping from your mouth, you feel his hands grip onto you tightly as he presses you into his mostly healed chest. You relax after a moment and press your face into the crook of his neck as you inhale softly, his scent relaxing your senses slowly as you remain in this embrace. After several silent moments, you pull away from him slowly but only just far enough to look at his face.
Your hand reaches up and her palm presses against his cheek softly, your thumb caressing over his cheekbone slowly, “I thought I lost you, Mig, don’t do that again.”, You whisper halfheartedly to him, you watch as his lips form a half smile at your words.
“I’ll try harder next time, cariño.”, Miguel whispers, there’s a passing moment as your eyes meet in an intense gaze. There’s a soft message that gets passed between you before there is a pair of soft lips brushing against your own, your mind freezes instantly as thoughts race through your mind and as you feel him pull away, you wrap your hand around the back of his neck and pull him closer. Your lips move slowly together and harmoniously, your emotions spilling into this moment all at once and expressing themselves with each movement of your lips. After a moment, you pull away to pull air into your lungs but press your forehead against his gently, your hand moves from his neck to his cheek instead. This moment burns itself in your mind where it’ll stay for as long as you live and breathe.

What’s Whitefang up to in your au? Does he still exist? Does he have a family? I would like to know everything >:D
Also I drew something for your millie collar au but idk if it got eaten by the void or not, I sent it in I’m pretty sure
Tumblr media
[ID: Dragonclaw and Whitefang from the Better Bones AU. Whitefang is laying on his back with a smug grin. Dragonclaw is looking at him with love.]
Your background blorbo got married to the cat with the coolest name in warriors. I needed them for the RiverClan Family Tree to make sure I had enough diversity to cross the Missing Generation Fog and ended up making a neat little power couple out of them!
Their children are Duckfur and Greenflower. Duckfur is killed in a fight over Sunningrocks in early TNP, and Greenflower was Sedgecreek's mate for many years before a cat divorce in late TNP.
Whitefang
His sister was Brightsky, making him Leopardstar's maternal uncle!
I think he has one of the coolest canon designs in warriors tbh so I didn't stray much. I just gave him this sleek, doberman-ish face with cool teeth.
Also his back paw boots go up a little further because Catboy Stockings is a VERY funny concept.
You ever notice how much Whitefang looks like a fanon design for a lynxpoint Hawkfrost? I dooo
He wasn't very scheming though, in fact he was a straightforward dude and a good teacher.
He helped his wife when they were young, she was a drypaw just like Leopard so Crookedstar hoped he would work his magic again.
I do not respect Leopardstar's Hacksaw and I'm willing to totally overhaul his death, but dying in a battle for Sunningrocks is fitting.
The patrol that kills Sunfish has been totally redone. It was THISTLECLAW taunting RiverClan as Redtail tried to tell him to knock it off, and Leopardfur killed him for mauling Sunfish.
So there's not really a need for Whitefang to be on that particular run.
It's likely that Whiteclaw died sometime in TPB, either during TigerClan or just before.
His specialties were teaching and hunting.
Dragonclaw
She is a rescued Missing Kit! Dragonflykit was the stillborn child of Greenflower, along with her brother Duckkit. Instead, I've made them her mother and a brother.
I dropped the 'fly' part of Dragonfly. In Clanmew it's all one word anyway. They're beloved and respected animals, excellent and agile hunters.
It is suspected that Dragon was the result of a half-clan crossing, or maybe found somewhere. She looks nothing like a RiverClan cat.
HUGE and sleek-furred, she's all muscle with a short tail and really big teeth, with huge ears that make her get cold really fast.
She is a trash-tier swimmer because of that, she sinks like a rock and can barely steer.
She was terrified of water for a while, but Whitefang was there to help her out. She can stay safe in the river but prefers marsh hunting and net-fishing.
Probably taken out by sickness, sometime shortly after Duck and Green became apprentices.
Her specialties are construction and brawling.

Voretober Day 5: Lost/Spider
A villain's factory is a complex, deadly place. Perhaps it really is for the best that you wandered into his clutches instead of getting tangled up in something much worse...
A factory was one of the worst places to lose your way, let alone a factory owned by an infamous mad scientist. There was little care for safety regulations, as evidenced by things like the twisting labyrinth of pipes and catwalks, a lack of guardrails over steaming vats of slime, and the irradiated Chompies you had to keep kicking away before they could sink their teeth into you.
You cursed yourself for deciding to wander this far into Dr. Krankcase’s lair. One misstep onto a conveyor belt was all it had taken for you to be separated from your Skylander companion. Fearing that staying in one place could get you caught, you chose to press on. This had been a mistake, and now you were fearing that every turn could lead to your capture, or even demise.
Keeping to the shadows, you kept your ears open for the sounds of moving wood and metal. Running into any patrolling Evilikin would be bad enough, but running into the “good” doctor himself would be disastrous. You shuddered at the thought of him trapping you, performing horrific experiments on you, leaving you tied up over a vat of goo…
As your mind wandered to awful places, you completely missed the net strung across the hallway. You kept walking, only to walk straight into a web constructed with green goo. You gasped, pulling away, but the slime stuck to you like glue. You tried to struggle, but much like a fly, you were only getting more stuck. What kind of horrible chemicals were getting all over you? Your panic was so great, you barely noticed the approaching tapping of wooden appendages.
“Oh don’t worry, that goo isn’t caustic, just sticky.” A slightly rough voice whispered in your ear. You whipped your head around, your stomach sinking to the floor. Dr. Krankcase gave you a sharp toothed smirk, sizing you up like the trapped prey you were. “Thanks for testing out one of my new traps! Shame I have to take you in now.”
“Please…let me go. I’ll leave, I won’t trouble you anymore!” You pleaded, shivering underneath him. Krankcase just chuckled, holding your chin and forcing you to look up at him.
“Sorry, dear, but that’s not happening. You’re a very valuable bargaining chip against your Skylander friends,” he said. “Just hold still, and I’ll move you to a very cozy cell.”
Like you’d let that happen. You held still long enough for him to untangle your body from the web of goo. Once the last slimy strand was pulled away, you made a break for it…and tripped right over an outstretched spider leg. You floundered for a moment, flipping yourself over, only for Krankcase to climb over and pin you under his five legs.
“Well aren’t you spirited! I almost feel bad about this.” Dr. Krankcase ruffled your hair before aiming one of his goo guns at you. All you could do was scream as he shot you point blank with a chilly, stinging glob…which almost immediately caused you to start shrinking in size. The reduction freed you from his pin, but that didn’t matter as you were swiftly snatched up. Even then, you were completely frozen. None of your muscles were cooperating with you.
Dr. Krankcase rubbed your head with a fingertip, grinning over your form. You wondered if he would toss you into a birdcage or jar…that thought was dashed as you were brought up to the doctor’s mouth, his tongue slipping out to lick his lips. Your stomach sank to the floor, and you immediately started to struggle.
“Wait, no! You don’t have to do this!” You cried. “I’ll leave! Just let me go!” But he just shook his head and tsked, sticking out his tongue to give you a slimy lick across the face. You shuddered, wiping the slobber away, only to find yourself being placed onto Krankcase’s tongue and slurped into his mouth.
You gasped, trying to crawl back towards his lips, but that damned tongue swished you around, coating you in a layer of slippery saliva. It wasn’t long before you were sliding towards his throat, unable to find purchase as Dr. Krankcase tilted his head back. Your legs were engulfed by his fleshy throat, and a single, strong gulp sent you right down his gullet.
“No!” You cried out, clawing at the squishy walls. The peristalsis squeezed you down, completely unaffected by your desperate struggling. The gullet was too strong, too slippery, too fast at pulling you down to the mad doctor’s waiting belly. You slipped through the esophageal sphincter, leaving you sealed within Krankcase’s digestive tract.
The stomach gave a low, rumbling gurgle, as if welcoming or taunting you. The walls had a sickly green glow, much like the goo he loved to concoct. It wasn’t very dark as a result, bringing you some form of comfort. You huddled against one of the squishy walls, hoping that he wouldn’t consider just digesting you instead of keeping you prisoner…
With a lick of his lips, Dr. Krankcase reapplied some fresh, sticky goo to the web trap before scuttling off deep into his lair. Unlike you, he knew the place like the back of his hand. At least now that you were trapped within him for the time being, you wouldn’t have to worry about losing your way in the perilous factory…
