The flowers of Stachyurus praecox are looking smart this year as the display is often damaged by frost. This spreading, deciduous shrub produces bell-shaped, pale yellow-green flowers on purple stems before the leaves emerge.

錦糸公園を通ったら『桜まつり』の真っ只中。

すでに満開の時期は過ぎてしまったようだけど、その代わり珍しい薄緑色の花を咲かせた桜の木を見ることができました。一度見てみたかったんですよね〜緑色の桜💚

調べたけど “御衣黄桜”？“鬱金桜”？どっちかなぁ…？ いずれも日が経つにつれ花芯が赤く色づき、しだいに全体がピンク色に変わっていくのだそう🌸

Cornus (dogwood)

Dogwoods flower in May and June and that means we’re moving into early summer in Vancouver. They’re native to temperate climates all over the world and as many as sixty species are recognized. Dogwoods range in size from shrub to small tree and they prefer shady environments, surrounded by taller trees. Most dogwood flowers are white or pink but the third photo is the greenest dogwood I’ve ever seen. I reckon that this green dogwood is from the planet Mars where it’s tended in the gardens by little green men.

Trillium viride

Endemic to east-central Missouri and south-west Illinois, this trillium species can be found growing in woods with rich soils and on rocky slopes. It blooms in mid to late spring and there are lookalike trilliums; however, T. viride has a characteristic unique only to it - tiny, yet visible stomata that look like white dots all over the top of its leaves.

The hardy, clump-forming perennial, Helleborus orientalis (Lenten rose) flowers in early spring. This plant has leathery, dark green leaves divided into leaflets and here the old foliage has been removed so the flowers can be clearly seen. After flowering the new foliage will emerge. The flowers can be variable in colour with shades of greenish-white to pink or purple and the flowers are often spotted.
