During my research, I was recommended to look into a plant called Japanese Knotweed. Japanese knotweed is a weed that spreads rapidly. In winter the plant dies back to ground level but by early summer the bamboo-like stems emerge from rhizomes deep underground to shoot to over 2.1m (7ft), suppressing all other plant growth. If left untreated, Japanese knotweed will grow rapidly, by up to 10cm a day during the summer months, pushing up through cracks in concrete, cavity walls, and drains
I found this plant really interesting and I believe it ties in perfectly with my project as it is a weed whose movement is rapid and greatly overtakes area over time. I will be keeping this research in mind as I continue my project as I found this piece of research compelling.
