Destinations: Japan
When you look at Japanese traditional architecture, you have to look at Japanese culture and its relationship with nature. You can actually live in a harmonious, close contact with nature - this very unique to Japan.

The last week has been deeply enjoyable from being able to see so many different views while traveling by train across Japan. Each moment we pass I imagine what it must be like to be someone who lives here. Who tends to the rice fields, who walks or bikes the roads each day, who fell in love here, who have died here, who have lost here. How different is the human experience based off location? What are the basic experiences of a person and how does the environment they are in effect that? Do they recognize how beautiful the landscape is everyday? Or does monotony of human experience blur the background, like it often does for many of us back in Colorado..

Japanese culture is so tied to the human experience alongside nature, and I have had a more difficult time trying to find apartments or homes that don’t have plants than ones that do, it makes me feel that the people that here are definitely more in tune with nature and recognize how beautiful and sacred it is. There isn’t a single street that I have been on the last month that I’ve been here that didn’t have a flower bush and a beautiful tree on it. I’m going to miss this feeling of connectedness with nature and the natural environment when I return home. I guess I’m going to have to go exploring in the mountains more to try to grasp this feeling again until I come back.
