Summary: When his brother forces him to go on a double date with him and with a girl that absolutely hates Grayson, he’s forced to realize that their mutual disdain might have been caused by his own actions.
Warnings: swearing, a lot of banter
Word Count: 2.5 k
A/N - this is sort of a version of This Is War (Ethan frat/soulmate fic), but there are no soulmates here. It’s probably bad since I stress wrote it instead of studying, but it’s also kind of fun? I guess I’m a sucker for enemies trope. Also, I am writing Fix me finale, but it will take me a while because I am back in college for the next month and a half or so and I have back to back exams every 2 or 3 days. Hope you guys understand and I hope you like this one as well.
*                                    *                                        *
Ethan never thought he'd have to beg his brother to accompany a beautiful woman on a date, but he still found himself in front of his arm-crossed twin and his defiant glare.
„No. Not happening.“ Grayson is adamant, refusing to budge and most definitely not when it's her who they want him to go out with. Why can't they find someone else to be their double date?! He just didn't see the sanity in that decision.
„I'm asking as a brother!“ Ethan pulled his twin card, hoping to see change in Grayson who simply laughed in his face before turning his back on him, still stubbornly refusing to even consider it.
„Bruh, never gonna happen.“
Rolling his eyes, Ethan's annoyance grows as he's forced to walk in front of his brother who seems damn determined to fuck up his night even after he tried to bribe him with chores, cash, even his dear Smooth cat.
„She's Amina's best friend. I am begging you, please, don't make me call mom on you.“ And that's when he played the ultimate card – the mom card. There isn't a woman in the world as important to Grayson as his mother, but then again, there isn't a woman as capable of making him do things he'd never want to do.
„Seriously? Playing the mom card now? What are we, like 10? Plus, why would she even want me as a date?! She fucking hates me and I'm pretty sure she's mental. You're putting your favorite brother in the line of fire.“ Reasoning with Ethan had never been fruitful in the past, but even as he watches Ethan shrug his pleas off his shoulders, Grayson clings to some hope he'd manage to escape this whole ordeal. It's probably the only time he had ever regretted being a playboy instead of having a girlfriend...taken men can't be forced into dates with their worst enemy.
„Favorite? You're my only brother, Grayson. It does not make you necessarily a favorite.“ Ethan retorted with furrowed eyebrows before tossing a white, classy shirt at his brother's chest. „Now get ready and be nice tonight, okay?“
Nostrils flared as he inhales deeply, staring daggers at Ethan's back as he leaves the room, Grayson yells after him: „No promises!“
To say he spent the entire drive over to the restaurant sulking would be an understatement. The last thing, absolutely the last thing, Grayson wanted to do now is to spend a few hours around Y/N Y/L/N.
You know those girls that are always seemingly fun but will cut you down with just a look if you make a single misstep? The girls that may be smaller than guys but cause terror in them whenever they scowl?
Y/N Y/L/N is the queen B of the club Grayson is certain exists as some secret college society of women that learn how to make men's lives miserable.
Sure, she's on good terms with everyone else, but Grayson always found her to be rude and mean-spirited with him. Every time he tried to bridge the distance between them for not only his brother's relationship but his own inner peace, she nearly chewed his head off.
In time, Grayson learned to avoid her and her mood-swings, but he still found himself getting out of the car on this particular night, finding Amina in front of the restaurant and he could easily recognize Y/N, even from behind. Perhaps he's spent too much time admiring her ass in the past, but she wasn't hard to recognize, besides, who else would be helping Amina fix her hijab?
For a moment there, he just stands there on the curb, watching her as the wind picks up and her hair flies to the side, revealing her face as she steps away from Amina and giggles, the sound carried through the wind and to his unsuspecting ears. He thought her laugh is almost...tolerable...cute even.
Shaking his head vehemently, Grayson felt Ethan's hand on his shoulder and his expecting gaze as well.
„Come on. It might rain soon and I'd rather not worry if Amina will freeze to death when her clothes get wet.“
Sighing, Grayson follows his brother reluctantly, his gaze unwavering and on his enemy. She may be clothed in a beautiful green dress with bare back, but Grayson still remembers she's a wolf in sheep's clothing.
„Hey.“ Ethan smiles sheepishly at his dear Amina, giving her a small wave as she looks down shyly and her cheeks turn a darker shade. Their relationship is pure in Grayson's eyes – they rarely ever touch and when they do it's by accident and yet they seem to be inseparable. In a moment of weakness, he wished for something as simple and pure as they have too.
„Ugh. Grayson fucking Dolan? Seriously Amina?“ Y/N all but growled at her best friend who was forced to look at her instead of Ethan who really captured all her attention moments ago. Frowning, Grayson clears his throat, hoping to speak but Y/N continues.
„I thought I was supposed to be here with you as the third wheel because your dad insisted! Why call...“ She turns to Grayson, gesticulating to his face with slight disgust on her face before she adds: „Him.“
„Excuse me?!“ Grayson exclaims, quite frankly offended by the way she looked at him like he's not worth the dirt off her cheap heels, but she just turns to him with the fakest, fed-up smile she could muster.
„You may be excused.“ Showing him down the road, hoping he'd leave, Y/N looked at the way his face quickly changed from insulted, to angry, to wicked.
„Oh, no. I'm staying. Now that I know you have been blindsided into spending a whole dinner with me, I'd love for a chance to make your meal a little spicy.“ Winking, Grayson opened the door. Waiting for them to enter, Ethan and Amina were fast but Y/N crossed her arms and tapped her foot against the pavement, her eyes narrowed at him with suspicion.
„Waiting for a formal invitations, princess?“ Grayson clicks his tongue as he gestures with a nod for her to get inside, nearly bursting out laughing when she flinches with the thunder echoing in the street.
„You're just waiting for me to walk in order to let the door slam in my face.“ She guesses, looking up at the sky nervously as lightning tears the sky open.
„Maybe, but you'll never know if you don't come in. Or you can test your luck with the thunderstorm.“ Shrugging as if saying he's alright with either or, Grayson raises his eyebrow in challenge and then it crosses his mind – this is the first time since he met her that he has the reigns and it feels really, really good.
Pensive, she looks back up at the sky before shrugging. „I'd rather brave the storm then, quarterback.“
However, as she states her choice, rain starts to drizzle and the lightning illuminates every line of her frustrated face and her pouted lips as she closes her eyes in anticipation of what's to come. Brave...but stupid.
„Come in. I won't slam the door in your face.“ Clearing his throat, he adds. „My mama taught me better, alright?“
„Fine, but if you do, I know who to complain to then. Don't underestimate me, quarterback. I can find her number if I want to!“ Eyes narrower with every step she takes, arms tense as she expects him to go back on his word, she manages to walk into the restaurant without a scratch on her and surprisingly no attempt to even frighten her.
Y/N headed straight for the table next to Ethan and Amina, the only one available with 'reserved' card on it. She sat opposite of Amina so she could pick up on any signal her best friend sends, but also because she had many signals she wanted to send her and a middle finger might be one of them.
Of all the men in the universe, hell, of all the women in the universe, those two chose the quarterback from hell? She never quite understood how he and Ethan could be twins and be so fundamentally different but after the first two years, she just stopped trying to understand it – understand him, at all.
„Alright. What do you want to order?“ Grayson picks up the menu – the only menu on the table and she rolls her eyes at him again. „Might wanna watch the eye-rolls. Don't want your eyes getting stuck like that, do you?“
Glancing at Amina who just mouthed 'Please', Y/N let out a violent huff in utter frustration, even more so when Grayson continued to hog the menu.
„Why are you here? Really? Did they blindside you too?“ Y/N questions, more curious about how calm he seemed when he found her in front of the restaurant than the menu he holds. She can't eat much now when her appetite is for vengeance alone.
„Nope, Ethan played the mom card. I wouldn't be here otherwise, trust me.“ He responds without even looking at her, his eyes still going over the menu and if she didn't know better, she'd think he's confused.
„You have something better to do on a Saturday night? A girl perhaps? Did I cockblock you, quarterback?“ Raising her eyebrows with amusement, she leans in and cocks her head slightly to the left, awaiting for his response.
„Don't flatter yourself. My plans were more important than a girl. I was supposed to run on the treadmill.“
Shaking her head, finding his answer peculiar and she couldn't help herself but question him further. Besides, she had no other form of entertainment but to make steam come out of his ears.
„Running? That's more important? What the hell?“ Flabbergasted, she draws in a shaky breath as she puts a hand on her chest in surprise and Grayson dignifies her with a curious glance.
„Who chooses to spend a Saturday night on a treadmill?“
Putting down the menu, Grayson presses his tongue against his left cheek to reel his usually loud self which was always amplified around her.
„Someone who makes good life choices. Try it sometimes.“ Snarky tone he used made her bite her lower lip, slowly releasing the soft flesh with a little less lipstick than before. Shame – Grayson quite liked the red shade on her lips.
„Oh, quarterback, you're so scandalous. For future reference, if you ever see me running you should run too because I only run for my life...maybe not even then.“ Smacking her lips, she slyly grabbed the menu from his hands and looked it over herself. She noticed Ethan nod at his brother before they exchanged a few words in their weird gibberish language Amina told her about, though she had caught them doing so a few times before too.
„So, you're really into football, huh“, Grayson asks so naively, noticing exactly when she raised her eyes from the menu and up to him with a boy-you-better-run look and he gulps, aware she'd soon say something that would fuck everything up.
„Football? It's literally the last thing on my list of interests...hell, it's not even on the list!“ She exclaims, noticing Grayson's jaw clench and his eyes harden and Ethan facepalmed immediately, all too familiar with what will happen.
„Football is life! What do you mean it's not on the list?“ Shushed by Amina, he presses his lips together but his eyes are wide and wild and Y/N can't help but chuckle.
„It's the dumbest sport there is. All you do is throw hands with men with over-sized pads and helmets. You get concussions for fame? Fuck that.“ Tossing the menu on the center of the table, Y/N leans back in her chair as she notices a vein prominently showing on Grayson's forehead and she can't help but enjoy the view. There is nothing she likes better than a pissed off Grayson. He's got everyone treating him like a deity, but she was never among them. Perhaps it's because he fucked up when they first met, but she tried time and time again to give him the benefit of the doubt and he always proved her opinion of him, while abominable, is very accurate.
„Dumbest sport? Do you know how hard I work to be the very best on that field? The theories and strategies I have to learn? The physical preparations?!“ Whisper shouting, Grayson leaned closer, his elbows resting on the table and his biceps swell up as he moves some of his weight onto his arms and the table under him.
„Oh, wow! You work so hard? A doctor works hard, Grayson. They save lives and they will never earn the money you will earn after college. You're learning how to run zig-zag across the field with a crummy ball in your hands without falling, while doctors, lawyers, teachers, cashiers and many REAL professions are so underfunded and underpaid and you think that's fair?“ Shaking her head, she raises her hands in mock surrender, watching a little bit of Grayson's ego chip away and he shakes his head too, looking away as he keeps his mouth shut.
„Why do you even hate me so much?“ Grayson mumbled sometime during dinner -  a very quiet dinner.
Looking up at him through her eyelashes, she wondered if he really doesn't know. Hell, she always knew why she hates him, but she never knew why he hates her.
„You really don't know?“ She nearly chuckles when he shrugs, oblivious as always.
„Why is that somehow worse than everything you did?“ Talking to herself more than him, she lets out a heavy sigh. Tucking her hair behind her ear, Y/N presses her lips together and Grayson can't help but notice the red lipstick is once again evenly spread across her lips.
She remembered the way they met, the way he treats the girls, the pranks he pulled that left her mortified, or the nickname he started that followed her for a whole semester and most of all, she couldn't forgive him for scaring off a guy she thought she'd be with for a very, very long time.
„You're so smart and sure of yourself, figure it out.“ But then again, she did have an appetite for vengeance and he had no idea how ready she was to satisfy it.
He was clueless until Monday morning, right after practice when he was left last in the locker-rooms after his self-imposed morning practice. He was clueless as he walked out of the shower, confused as to where his towel is. He was clueless when his steam-clad body felt the breeze of the mysteriously open window in the locker-room had made him shiver.
However, when he opened his locker, Grayson was no longer clueless: his clothes – gone, his jersey – gone, his phone, bag and towels gone.
Everything is gone, yet when he looks at the mirror, he finds the cause for the message left in a very familiar shade of red gave him more than just a clue – XOXO next to a clear mark of a particular pair of lips he was admiring on Saturday night.
„Y/N FUCKING Y/L/N!“

Elena Cordova always thought she had her life figured out. The plan was this - marry her high school sweetheart, work her dream job as an art teacher, two kids, and live in a beautiful home sized just right for her family. But at the moment, it didn’t seem like the high school sweetheart part of the plan was working out so well.
It was the second to last week of high school and a ceremony for scholarship recipients was being hosted in the auditorium of the school. One of her family’s proudest moments was seeing Elena go onstage and win three scholarships for merits and her art. The night felt almost perfect, the one fault being Adam, her boyfriend, being a no show.
Trying not to let it bother her too much, she ran offstage to her family once the ceremony was over, being met with an abundance of flowers and balloons from her parents alone.
“I am so proud of you!” Gabriela, her mother, told her as she hugged her tight and kissed her temple. She accepted the love openly before moving on to her dad, Eduardo, who shoved more flowers her way, making her laugh.
“Congratulations sweetheart, you are officially smart enough for this family,” he teased, smiling brightly and looking like the epitome of a proud dad.
“Oh, ha, ha, you’re absolutely hilarious!” She rolled her eyes and accepted the bouquet. “And thank you for these, I hope they didn’t cost too much.”
“Can this one even go one night without spending basically hundreds on her kids?” he asked, not-so-subtly pointing to Gabriela. She playfully shoved his shoulder and he laughed, but Elena nodded in agreement anyway.
“Good point.”
Elena found herself being basically tackled as a familiar voice told her, “Congratulations, you’re rich!” When that person let her go, she looked to find that it was her best friend, Madeline, smiling at her like a goon.
“I almost died from that, if I die, I can’t be rich so be gentle with me,” she joked, and Maddy rolled her eyes before going in for a proper hug.
“Shut up, I love you,” Maddy told her before letting her go and looking at her. “No one is out here doing it like you, you’re such a baddie.”
In that moment, she felt a hand at the small of her back, which startled her at first until she looked to see it was none other than Adam. In an instant, the whole vibe changed, and her smile fell to a stony look rather than feeling happy to see him.
“She really is a baddie, huh?” he asked, a hint of teasing in his voice before pressing a kiss to her cheek. “My baddie.”
“It’s ugly when you say it, Adam,” Maddy deadpanned. “I hope you choke.”
“Woah, I just got here, what is with the hostility?”
“Because I hate you.”
“Aw, I love you too, Mads.”
Elena’s brother, Brandon, and her sister, Lyla, approached them then, most likely to check on what’s happening.
“Adam, dude, surprised you actually made it tonight, didn’t think we’d see you,” Brandon says to him.
“Yeah, you kinda missed the whole thing,” Lyla adds, nodding in agreement.
“I had work, I’m sorry guys,” he told them with a shrug, and Elena looked at him again, confused.
“I thought you took off for me tonight…”
“I meant to. I did, I just...I get busy, El, I must’ve forgot.”
Elena hums in acknowledgement before looking at her siblings and Maddy and grabbing Adam’s hand. “I need a minute with Adam,” she told them before dragging him along outside the building.
“What were you really doing?” she questions once they’re alone. She crosses her arms and looks at him expectantly.
“I told you, I was working!”
“Even after I asked you this morning if you were coming and you said yes?”
“I was busy this morning, I don’t even remember you asking me. I might’ve just glanced and said yes without actually thinking about it, baby, I’m sorry.”
“Adam! You fucking knew how important this was to me! For once I asked you to put me first and what do you do? You just fucking go to work and forget about me! I get put on the backburner like usual!”
“Elena, I don’t know what you want from me!”
“I want you to give me what I give you! When you have your stupid fucking games or anything else that you feel like is important, I always show up for you! But when it’s for me, it always just seems to slip your mind or something else always has to come up! Why is that, Adam, why?”
“I’m trying, Elena! But I have a life and things that matter more to me than a stupid scholarship ceremony!”
Elena huffed a breath, a little taken aback at him saying it was stupid. He seemed to know how that came out, because he sighed and started to say something.
“Stupid?”
“I didn’t mean-”
“No, I think you did.”
“Well, it’s not exactly the way I wanna spend my fucking night, Elena! Seeing that everyone’s futures are kind of being handed to them, including my own fucking girlfriend, when I can’t even get a single fucking break in life!”
“You want a break in life, Adam?”
“You know what? Yeah, I do. And I would like a break from your constant nagging about me not fitting in that dumb ass dream of yours. It’s a fucking dream for a reason, El.”
“Well, here’s your break, sweetheart. We’re done,” she scoffs, starting to walk away from him.
“Yeah, right. Get back here.” He tried to reach for her, but she doesn’t let him even touch her before turning to look at him.
“Yeah right? Adam, I am seriously done with this! I cannot and I will not continue to put time and energy into this relationship when you can’t even show up to a ‘stupid ceremony’ for a few hours when it comes to me! You think a future is being handed to people here? No, people worked hard, and want more for themselves, unlike you. You could be so successful, Adam, even maybe more than you think I am, but you don’t want to do anything! So I am not going to give you my all when you don’t want anything but to sit around and be a victim to everything, even me.”
And on that note, she walked away from him for real, not even giving him a chance to respond.
When she met with her family after so they could head home, she was quieter than usual. Her family talked around her about things like what they wanted for dinner or joking about what some people were wearing to the ceremony. Once they were home, Gabriela pulled Elena aside to ask her what was wrong, knowing that her silence was very odd. Elena just started crying in lieu of an actual response at first, and her mom hugged her tightly to comfort her.
“I just broke up with Adam,” she told her, pulling away just a little to talk, “and he didn’t even really care. But I love him, and I wish he cared and appreciated me so much more.” She went back to hugging her mom and Gabriela pet her hair as Eddy watched from a short distance.
He hasn’t seen her like this for so long, not since she was a child, so seeing her this upset was very out of the ordinary. He tried to usher everyone inside, but Brandon and Lyla just wanted to comfort her too, joining in on the hug. Eddy just joined them as well, deciding she needed this more than a moment to cry.
“This was supposed to be a happy night with good memories,” she says, sniffling, “I can’t believe that asshole ruined it.”
“Hey, mija, calm down, it’s alright. Plus, you’re gonna give yourself wrinkles with all this upset.”
“Dad!”
“Okay, okay, but can we at least go inside to talk?” Eddy asks, and this time everyone agrees and heads inside to their living room. There, Elena explains everything that happened with Adam outside with her parents sitting beside her and her siblings listening attentively.
“El, my love,” her dad started telling her, “I know you thought you had a perfect life all planned out, but you know what? Life sometimes just doesn’t work out. And that has to be okay when it doesn’t. You’re brilliant, you have such good things in life, and you will one day find someone who is ready to give you what you want and more.”
“I wanted that with Adam, dad.”
“Fuck Adam,” Brandon scoffed, and Gabriela gave him a look.
“Brandon,” she said, her voice letting everyone know it was his one and final warning.
“No, he’s right though,” Lyla spoke up, “literally fuck Adam. Right now, the focus isn’t boys and dating anyway, you need to worry about yourself first and live for you first.”
“Easy to say when the first person you guys found was the one for you, mom, and dad,” she countered, frustration evident in her tone.
“Hey, at least you got me in your same boat,” Brandon reassures. Lyla scoffed, making him look at her with a furrowed brow. “What?”
“No offense, Brandon, you know I love you, but you also need to-”
“Mmh mmh,” he started, “this is just not about me, let’s keep the focus on Elena.”
“You know what, maybe you’re right Lyla,” Elena decided. “I’m gonna be going into my first year of college and pursue the one thing I love more than anything. That really should be my focus. A nice, fresh start.”
“That’s the spirit,” Gabriela said, clapping and standing up, starting to make her way to the kitchen. “Let’s celebrate with dinner! And a movie, someone pick something!”
Lyla got up and followed her mom to the kitchen to grab utensils to set up the dinner table while Brandon and Eddy both started to fight for the remote.
In the time following this, her fresh start really did begin, starting with spending a good month of her summer in Puerto Rico with her family and Maddy following graduation. There, they visited beaches, went to nightclubs, and visited a lot of her family. Following that, they got back home to New Jersey, and Elena went right back out to Maddy’s beach house, spending lots of time taking pictures and visiting the boardwalk.
As fun as her summer was, she shifted gears when the time came down to it, and it was truly a rough start when making the transition from high school to college. She had a lot on her mind and lots of stuff to juggle, plus she still found herself thinking of Adam and their downfall. Breaking up with him was something she definitely needed to do, but it didn’t make it any easier to just forget about him. On top of that, she had a job in the library that she really needed, and found useful since she was able to do some coursework on shift if it was slow enough. It was a rough start, indeed, but once she really got the hang of it and made some friends, she was able to finish off strong and make for a decent freshman year.
Her first semester of sophomore year is the one that she was in for a treat with. It was Monday morning and she was a couple minutes early to her 10:50 Calculus class in order to get a good seat. The professor promptly started at 10:50, even though a few people were still piling in. One guy came in later than the rest by about eight minutes. As if that wasn’t enough for him to have Elena’s attention, he had lengthy hair that fell just past his ears and he was wearing grey sweats paired with a plain blue tee. Elena had to shake it off though, reminding herself that her focus was her career and not boys.
The professor ended class a little early, which Elena appreciated since she had a shift at noon and this class was cutting close to that. In her rush to leave, she didn’t notice that she was going to run into someone, and that someone knocked the book out of her hands.
“Oh fuck, I’m really sorry about that,” he said, picking up the book and handing it to Elena. He held onto it just a second too long while looking at her, distracted by the fact that she was actually very pretty.
“It’s fine,” she rushed out, brushing hair behind her ear and taking the book back. “Thanks for picking it up.”
He didn’t even get to say anything in response before she was rushing out of the classroom and making her way to the library. On her way there, she texted Maddy and Brandon in their group chat.
elena: omg i just bumped into the hottest guy in the whole entire world ???
elena: adam who??
brandon: omfg el not this, please
maddy: be honest - scale of one to ten, how hot???
elena: eleven !!!
maddy: sis. get him.
brandon: no !!! no, do not get ANYTHING you don’t need this rn
elena: but brandon he’s literally an ELEVEN if not a twelve
brandon: i am so over this gc ! when are we ever gonna talk about intellectual things??
elena: never bc you also come to us to talk about cute boys soooo
brandon: excuse you i would never
elena: ANYWAY he is the loml
maddy: YES !! FUCK ADAM FR SIS MOVE ON GET THE ELEVEN-TWELVE GUY !!!
Elena just laughed and put her phone away to clock in for what she already knows will be a very uneventful shift. It’s the first day back and she didn’t even have much to do class wise, since Calc was her first and only class for today. She decided to just sit and look over her syllabus all the way through while watching out for anyone who might come in and check out textbooks and other stuff for first class homework.
While Elena was working, Plain Blue was still in the classroom, trying to remember what he was trying to do before the collision. His brain was caught in that moment, though, wondering where she was off to so quickly.
The sound of their professor shuffling papers suddenly pulled him from his thoughts and reminded him he needed the syllabus.
“Hi,” he greeted, and the professor looked up at him.
“Ah, yes. You’re the late one.”
“Actually, I’m Grayson, but late one works too. I actually need a copy of the syllabus, being that I was late.”
“And what was more important than being on time for my class?” the professor asked. He wasn’t actually upset, but Grayson didn’t catch onto that, since he was a bit stressed by the situation.
“I was in a different class, I kinda messed up my schedule and this one conflicted with a gen ed I need too, so I was trying to fix it before school started, but the freakin’ registrar—”
The professor stopped him with a simple raise of his hand before pulling out a syllabus and handing it to Grayson. He sighed and took it, relieved that this professor wasn’t some kind of asshole.
“It was a joke, kid, I get it. Life happens. Sorry about your rough start today.”
“Thank you,” Grayson said, glancing at the time. “Fuck, I’m sorry sir, I have another class that I’m now running late to.” Before the professor could even say anything else, he was rushing out of the room, shooting a text to his twin brother, Ethan, about his horrible day.
grayson: bro im having the worst ducking day in my entire ducking life
grayson: FUCKING* FUCK
ethan: u need to relax
grayson: i was late to my second class and now i am late to my third why did i make my schedule back to back
He hit send on that text and entered the library, taking a quick glance at the front desk and seeing the girl he bumped into earlier. He then typed out another message to his brother while making his way towards her.
grayson: now i am about to be more late :)
About halfway through her shift, a familiar face approached the front desk and smiled at her before he started talking.
“Hey, I saw you in math class this morning,” he informed, leaning against the counter. She sat up and eyed him curiously.
“Yeah, and you’re the klutz who knocked the book out of my hands.”
“I said sorry, no?” Elena shrugged and he just continued talking. “That very same book is why I’m here actually. I was wondering if I could cop pictures of your textbook for the homeworks.”
“Oh, so I don’t even know you by name or anything, and I’m just supposed to let you take pictures of my book because you...asked nicely?”
“I-I’m Grayson, if that helps with the name part,” he told her, standing up straight and holding his hand out for her to shake. Her eyes flickered between his hand and his face for a bit before she decided to just shake his hand anyway.
“Elena,” she said simply. “Let’s say I do let you take pictures of my textbook, Grayson. What do I get out of it?” she asked him, resting her chin in the palm of her hand.
“A very good friend,” he says with a smile, also resting his chin in the palm of his hand. In her mind, it was so very endearing and she wanted to smile very badly, but externally she made sure to remain unimpressed.
“Are you good at math?” she asked, and he nodded once.
“I’d say so.”
“In exchange for the textbook pictures, how about you help me figure all this stuff out so I can pass.”
Grayson smiles more and pulls out his phone, unlocking it before holding it out for her to take. “How about you give me your number and we can try to work something out?’
Internally, she was really shook up by the fact that this really hot guy wanted her number. Externally, she remained calm and took his phone, putting her number in it.

Excuse Me (E.D)
Warnings: mentions of alcohol
Plot: y/n and ethan have feelings for each other, but don’t think the other will ever feel the same. at a frat party, y/n is talking to another man. but she’s ethan’s girl.
Word Count: 1071
She was absolutely exquisite, an angel sent from above. Any guy on campus would love a chance with her. Just being around her caused Ethan to become weak in the knees. He never knew what to say, and tended to come off as a fuckboy. But there was something about him that made Y/N want to be around him. Maybe it was the way he could liven up any room, make anyone laugh. Or maybe it was the way his brown eyes sparkled when he smiled at her. How he would scratch the back of his neck and look at his shoes as he thought of something else to say. How he went from being the most confident guy in the room, to a nervous wreck when the two of them were alone together.
But he didn't feel the same way. In her mind, she was just some other girl. A girl that shows up at all of his frat parties, hoping that night would be the night she would finally make a move. Kiss him, tell him he's all she can think about. But no amount of alcohol ever made her confident enough. So she would always leave alone, go back to her sorority, and wonder what his lips would feel like on her own.
But boy was she wrong. Ethan always tries to work up the nerve to ask her out. He always watches the door until he sees her come in, dressed to the nines as usual, as she nervously pushes her hair behind her ears, and scans the room. His heart stops when her eyes land on him and she smiles. How can a girl be that beautiful, he always things to himself. He makes his way to her, two drinks in his hands. "Late as usual." He jokes, handing her a red solo cup. She rolled her eyes.
"Got to be fashionably late to make a true entrance." She replied, taking a sip of the drink he handed her. "Were you waiting for me?" She playfully shoved him with her shoulder as the two stood against the wall, music blasting, and drunk college kids partying around them.
"In your dreams Y/N/N!" He joked back, taking a quick drink of his own drink, hoping he didn't make it too obvious that that's exactly what he was doing. No one else catches his eye the way she does.
The two continued to talk for a while, before Ethan got called away for some drinking game he was supposedly the best at. Y/N was going to go watch, but another guy in Ethan's fraternaty approached her, asking if she would like another drink. She looked down into her now empty cup, and accepted a new drink. She stayed and talked with him for a little bit, hoping Ethan would be back soon. After a while, she looked around, and saw Ethan caught up in another girl. His arm proped up on the wall beside her head. "I, uh, should go." She said, placing her empty cup on a nearby table, and left before this new guy could object. She knew Ethan would never feel the same about her.
As the next week passed, Y/N focused on her studies, going from class to a cafe just off campus to study in peace. She didn't want to be in a place where she could accidentally run into Ethan. It was time to get her life back on track and not focus on winning some guys affections. She would order the same drink at the same time every day, and sit at the same table, and look over the notes from that class and classes previous. Another week passed, and her grades seemed to skyrocket. She knew all the answers on a pop quiz given in one of her classes. It's as if she hardly thought of Ethan anymore.
Once the third week passed, her sorority was getting ready to go to a party at his frat house again. "Come on! You have to go! Ethan has been asking about you since the last one. And so has Liam." She rolled her eyes, declining once again, saying she was going to study for her test on Monday. "Study tomorrow! You can't tarnish our sorority name by not going to this party." Her sorority sister picked out an outfit from her closet and threw it at her. "Put that on, and let's go get drunk." She really didn't want to, but it seemed as if she didn't have a choice. So she obliged. She would make an appearance and sneak out.
As if by habit, she looked for Ethan as soon as she walked in, not seeing him anywhere. Liam approached her, though, smiling and handing her a drink. "I was hoping you'd show. You kind of ran out last time." He said, giving a fake pout. Liam was a rather attractive man, dirty blond hair, spiked up into a quiff, and honey coloured eyes that could make any girl swoon. His biceps always seemed to burst through his dress shirts, making her wonder how he even got them to fit.
"Sorry about that. I was feeling sick." But he wasn't Ethan. Nobody would be Ethan. She seemed to keep looking around for Ethan, but after a while gave up and just talked to Liam. He seemed to be moving closer. Unbeknownst to them, Ethan was on the other side of the crowded room, watching as the two danced, and talked, and seemed to get closer. His blood was boiling. He didn't want anyone else to have Y/N. That was his girl. As he downed his fifth drink of the night, confidence and rage flew through his veins. He was gong to win his girl tonight.
Ethan pushed through the crowed, coming up to the couple as Liam was leaning closer. "Excuse me." He said as he pushed through the couple, cupped her face and pressed his lips to hers with no hesitation. Y/N didn't wait in kissing him back, as she's been waiting for this day for far too long. His lips were soft, and the kiss was passionate. The cup dropped from her hand as she wrapped her arms around Ethan, wanting him as close as possible. "You're my girl, and don't you forget it." Ethan whispered when he pulled away. She nodded, and pulled him in for another kiss.

warning: language | theme: angst, college au | thank you for the 1K, guys. I appreciate every single one of you. Here is a angst filled treat as a thank you!
the relationship used to be so good, you don’t know where the two of you went wrong.
You loved Grayson Dolan, with your entire heart and soul. But sadly sometimes love isn’t enough. Sometimes love isn’t enough to keep your heart from breaking as everything around you seems to fall apart. The two of you met on the first day of college. The moment you walked into the 8:30 am English class, hair pulled away from your face and wearing a short sundress, you captured Grayson's heart. He’d never been left breathless by someone before. You were the love of his life, he figured out in that moment. But once again, love just isn’t enough sometimes.
“Get out!” You screamed towards him, face flared with anger as tears streamed down your face.
Your chest heaving with each labored breath you took as you pointed towards the front door of your apartment. Grayson's face matched your anger if not more. His face was red and his fists were tightly clenching and unclenching beside his side. When the two of you argued it was never just a fight, instead it was full on brawl. The two of you saying things that you grow to regret in the morning.
“Why won’t you believe me?! I didn’t fucking cheat on you!”
“Fucking bullshit, Dolan. I’m not falling for this shit again. Get your shit and get the fuck out.”
Grayson scanned over your face for any moment of hesitation or doubt. But he found none. He let out a dark and false humor chuckle before shaking his head and walking towards the door. His heavy footsteps walked towards the door, the only thing letting you know he was leaving. You couldn’t stand there and watch him leave again. So you turned your back to the door and cupped your hand over your mouth to muffle the sobs. Grayson stood in front of the door and placed his hand on the doorknob, but didn’t dare turn it.
He waited for you to say it was all ok, that he didn’t need to go. That you loved him and that the two of you would work this out. But it never came. Instead he turned and looked over his shoulder to see the damage he’d done. Grayson knew you were the love of his life, but sadly his life wasn’t ready for you. He wasn’t ready for you. He’s made mistakes. Broken your heart. No matter how hard he tried it was like he couldn’t stop himself. You were a bright, pure and angel eyed person he’d taken and damaged. He knew that this time wasn’t gonna be like the past. He’d fucked up.
A single tear fell down his cheek as he gripped the doorknob tightly and pulled it open. A small shriek of shock and fear came from you as it snapped back into the frame. The walls rattling from the force as he left, enough that a photo of the two of you feel from the wall. It was ironic how the glass on the frame cracked and shattered into pieces.
Grayson tried to bury his heart break. Make it so he didn’t have to feel. From girls to booze, he’d drown himself every weekend till things blurred. It hurt too much to see you walking around campus. You tried to cover up your heart break and instead threw yourself into your studies. You wanted your mind to be filled with anything but Grayson Dolan.
It was hard to see Kristina any time you two would study together. She instantly made you think of him. You had to bite down on your tongue to stop yourself from asking how he was doing. Was he hurting as much as you? You never asked cause either answer wouldn’t do you any good.
It was months before you felt good enough to get out there again, even if it was to socialize with friends. It was the end of the year bash that was thrown every summer at a field not too far from campus. It was a booze filled night that went well into the next morning. There was music, dancing, bonfires and more. Kristina and Adele had begged you to come. Of course your first question was gonna be;
“Is Grayson gonna be there?” You swallowed the ball that had formed in the back of your throat at the mention of his name. It annoyed you how he still had a effect on you.
Adele hesitated, before deciding to be honest with you. “Yes...with Kylie.”
Your eyes shot up and looked towards them both in shock. Kylie, the same on the text message that came through that night six months ago. The girl he swore he didn’t cheat on you with. Kristina felt her stomach drop at the look that came over your face. You nodded your head before standing from your bed and walking towards your closet. You weren’t gonna let him ruin this night. Not like he’d ruined the memory of your time together.
“[y/n], babes you don’t have to come. We’d understand.”
“I’m not letting the fucking asshole ruin my last night with my friends. I’m coming.” You stripped out of your clothes and slipped on your favorite red sundress. It ended mid thigh and made your skin look like it was glowing. Coincidentally it was the same dress you’d worn the first day Grayson had seen you.
You finished getting ready before grabbing the few things you’d need and headed out with the girls. Your heart was hammering against your chest, for a moment you thought it was going to come out of your chest. You couldn’t help the moment you go down to the field but look for Grayson. It was like your body knew that he was near.
His laugh seemed to cut through the crowd and make your heart stop in the best and worst ways. He stood a few feet away from you next to a truck that was backed up near one of the fire pits, beer bottle in hand as he talked with the frat boys that were around him. You grabbed something stronger than beer as you walked to get as far away from him as possible.
But it didn’t matter, Grayson saw you. The smile across his face faltered slightly as he watched you walk with Adele towards another group. His grip on the beer bottle in his hand tightened when he noticed what you were wearing. That fucking dress. He watched with anger growing inside of him as he saw men checking you out, one of them even having the balls to walk up to you. You two may not be together any more, but to Grayson, you were still his.
You seemed to consume drink after drink in order to ignore your body’s response to the man that was feet away from you. You felt a false happiness start to fill you the more you consumed. You giggled as you felt John? James? Whatever his name was wrap is arm around you and pull you into his lap. His beard tickled against your neck as nuzzled into your neck slightly. You were barely paying attention to him. All that mattered to you is that he looked and felt nothing like Grayson. He was blonde with blue eyes, tall but more on the lean side. Not as broad and built as Grayson. He was a good enough distraction for the night.
Grayson felt the anger building within his chest as he watched you with the guy whose lap you were sitting in. He’d never felt a anger like this before, it was beyond the anger he’d get when fighting with you or anyone else. All he saw was red. Ethan could feel the heat from his brother’s anger from beside him.
“I’m going to g-get another d-drink” You slurred as you leaned over towards Adele. You struggled to get out of the lap you were sitting in before making your way out and towards a keg that was set up more towards the center of the field. Your footing was unsteady as the world spun around you, nothing but laughter and loud music welcoming your ear.
You giggled to yourself as you walked, holding tightly to the cars as you passed to make sure you didn’t hit the grass beneath you. Grayson took that as his chance when he saw you get up and start walking away. He nearly threw his beer down, before getting up and walking towards you quickly. It didn’t take him long to reach you since you’d been barely moving .
“[Y/N],” Grayson called out once he was close enough.
The moment you heard his warm voice speak your name, the happiness that filled you quickly evaporated. Your back straightened before you slowly turned around to face him. When you finally did all the air seemed to leave your lungs at once. He towered over you, his broad shoulders stretching the dark colored t-shirt he was wearing. His longer hair was pushed back and tucked beneath a baseball cap, the small tendrils of curls peeking out from beneath. He was beautiful.
“What do you want?” your voice held malice and anger. Grayson’s brows rose up in shock from how much anger you held.
“I-I just wanted to talk,”
You chuckled before shaking his head, “Talk, you wanna fucking talk?”
“Baby...please...”
“No! Don’t you fucking dare call me that!” You pointed a finger towards him and stumbled forward slightly. He reached forward to catch you, but all you did was push his hand away. “Don’t you dare touch me.”
Grayson felt his anger start to build quickly. “Why? You let that fucker touch you.”
You stumbled slightly “Who? That guy?” You pointed past him towards the firepit that Adele was sitting at with the others. “Why do you care. Don’t you have someone new to worry about?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Grayson stood straighter, quickly covering up with a lie. You glared towards him and quickly caught it.
“I see nothing has changed. Once a liar, always a fucking liar.”
Kristina looked around the moment she heard shouting, the voices sound familiar to her. She looked around the field and stopped when she spotted you and Grayson on the other side. You guys were a little farther away, but she was able to hear the angry screaming the two of you were doing. Kristina quickly grabbed at Ethan’s arm to get his attention, before pointing towards the two of you. He cursed beneath his breath before standing up and rushing towards the two of you, Kristina close behind.
You and Grayson were face to face with each other going back to your old ways. The two of you trying to say the most hurtful thing you can to each other. The moment Ethan was close enough, he pushed Grayson away from you by his chest, making him take a few steps back. Kristina wrapped her arm around you and pulled you away, feeling your body shaking in her arms.
“Haven’t you done enough! What fucking more do you need from me?” You shouted towards Grayson, ignoring Kristina as she tried to calm you. “Haven’t you broken me enough?”
You sagged in Kristina’s arms as tears ran down your cheeks and you felt the energy leave you. Grayson was speechless. He allowed Ethan to continue to push him away. Ethan took Grayson to the other side of the field where he was far from you and everyone else. Grayson felt like he was going to explode and took his aggression out on the first thing he could. Which sadly was a tree. Grayson ignored the pain that shot up his arm, along with the blood bleeding through the cracked and broken skin.
“Dude you need to fucking calm down,” Ethan spoke, “What the hell were you thinking going up to her!”
“I just wanted to talk!” Grayson shouted, turning towards Ethan. “She fucking get’s me so goddamn mad.”
“Well I don’t know what the fuck you expected to happen, it’s been six months. You cheated on her Grayson, I don’t think she’s going to be welcoming you with open arms any time soon.”
Grayson sighed heavily before looking down towards the grass beneath him. The two of them stood there in silence till the soft sniffs of Grayson’s cries broken through it. His shoulders shook, before turning his head up to meet with his brothers. “I miss her, I miss her so fucking much.”
Ethan sighed and stepped closer to his twin, “I know man, I know.”
“I still love her. I love her so fucking much and I just want her back.” Grayson cried as Ethan took him into his arms.
“I think you need to let her go.” Ethan sighed “It’s too far broken. You need to let her go.”
As Grayson cried in his brothers, deep down, he knew that was true.

“I’ve always wondered what it’d be like to be famous- never telling anyone but I’ve always wanted to know- wanted to get in the head of someone famous and see what they go through- but I could’ve never guessed this was how I was going to find out.
It all started when I was 22, fresh out of college, with a crappy assistant job at a publishing company in Los Angeles, California. Having been stuck at this job for almost three years and never even having my articles read, I was starting to lose hope that I would never be more than an assistant. Until one day…”
“Lily! Get in here! And bring me a coffee!” I scurry to Mr. Lane’s office, clutching the coffee I had just gone and grabbed for him, stopping by my desk to grab my notebook and pen.
I opened his glass door and put his coffee down on his desk, pushing up my glasses as I opened my notebook and clicked my pen, looking up at him expectantly, waiting for him to say what he needed me to do. He looks at me, his eyes bright at first but quickly losing their color and he sighs as though he’s already exasperated, “What is this?” He holds up a copy of a story I had put on his desk.
Oh jeez, another rejection. I push my glasses up again and start to stutter out an explanation in a quiet voice, “Well, I-I heard you talking to some of the reporters about need-needing a new story for next week's issue and well, I-I already had an idea so I thought I’d-” He cuts me off with a quick raise of his hand and a stoic look on his face, giving nothing away.
“Look,” he sighs and rubs his face with both hands before continuing, “It’s not a bad story, but it’s a half-baked idea. That’s your problem. That’s why you haven’t gotten a byline yet- you can never deliver a full idea- let alone a full article, do you understand?”
I look down, refusing to let him see my cheeks burn red and my eyes water. This is what he says every time I give him an idea. “Do you want to be a journalist?” He questions.
I make eye contact with him quickly lifting my head and squaring my shoulders to try and seem more confident, “More than anything, sir.”
“Well then, I have a proposition for you.” He gets up from his chair, his tall, lean body going to perch on the corner of his desk as he looks up at me his blue eyes sparkling with a mischievous glint, “I’ll give you a lead, and if you can follow through and get me a full 12000-word article by Monday, you can keep your job and I might throw you a lead here and there. But if you fail to deliver…” He pauses momentarily, thinking over his next words carefully, “you lose your job.”
I gasp and try to reason with myself for a second, making a mental pro-con list before replying quietly, “What’s the article on?”
He shakes his head and smirks lightly, filling my stomach with more unease, “No, you have to agree to the proposition. Then, I will tell you the story.”
Can I do this? Can I risk everything? I mean, that’s what my life’s been so far, a lot of risks and sacrifices. But is this a sacrifice I’m willing to make?
What would mom do? I sigh, “O-ok. Okay, I accept. Now, what’s the story?”
He claps his hands together excitedly and looks up at me with a boyish grin, he moves swiftly behind his desk and grabs an envelope, handing it to my shaky hands, “Grayson Dolan, he fights tonight here at the arena, go with a press pass, get an interview with him and ask him a couple of questions. Oh, and make sure we get a quote.”
I stare at him open-mouthed, frozen to my spot, “What? The Grayson Dolan?! You and I are both very aware that he refuses to do interviews. This isn’t even possible.” I say without trying to raise my voice too much.
Jace just leans back in his desk chair, lacing his fingers together and putting them behind his head, “Not my problem- it’s yours now. If I don’t have that story in my hand Monday morning, just pack your things up and leave, got it?” He smirks up at me.
I just silently walk out of his office and back to my desk, sitting down and putting my head against the cool wood surface. I don’t know if I want to cry or punch myself in the face.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
“And then he told me that if I accept- but fail to give him a story- I lose my job!”
“Wow! I never liked that guy, you know. He gives off such- such a douchebag vibe.”
I can’t help but chuckle at my dad’s voice dropping a little, he hasn’t been big on cursing since mom passed. At first, it was weird because both my parents cussed when I was growing up. But after mom passed, dad decided that, ‘there’s enough hate in the world’ and that he’s not going to add to it with foul language.’
“I know Dad, but what am I supposed to do?”
“Don’t accept it! You should never risk your whole career on whether or not some guy is feeling up to an interview!”
“Ok, one-” I start, “it is not just some guy! This is Grayson Dolan! And two,” I lower my voice and chew my lip, a bad habit I picked up in middle school, “I already agreed.”
“Of course you did!” he sounds exasperated and I pull my phone away from my ear a little out of reflex, “You are just like your mother, you know that?” he sighs and the line goes quiet.
“Daddy?” I whisper into the phone. He stays silent. It’s my turn to sigh and fall back onto my couch. I mutter into the phone, “He wouldn’t tell me the story until I accepted. I have to go get ready, I’ll talk to you after the match. I’ll be sitting ringside so look for me, ok?”
“Ok, I will. I’m still not happy about this.”
“I know Dad, you’re not happy with two-thirds of the things I do.”
That gets a reluctant chuckle out of him, “I guess you’re right. Good luck, by the way. If anyone can get an interview out of Dolan- it’d be you. And if you can’t, your childhood bedroom would love to have you back.”
“Ha-ha. Thanks. I love you.”
“Love you too baby, I’ll see you soon?”
“Dad,” my stomach drops at his hopeful voice and I can’t bring myself to tell him the truth, “Maybe, bye.”
I hang up the phone before he can say anything and I sink into the couch.
I wake with a start, my neck sore from the back of the couch. Oh no. I grab my phone in a haste, I turn it on and my whole body sags in relief when the time shows up; 6:45.
I have about an hour and a half to get ready, that’s enough time!
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Wrong. Very wrong. I feel a wave of heat wash over me, igniting my anxiety as I look at the time on my phone; 7:45.
I quickly put on my normal, light makeup consisting of moisturizer, skin tint, blush on my cheeks and nose, giving me an almost sunburnt look. I shape my eyebrows a little, fix my glasses, and put on my chapstick. I quickly brush out my short, wavy hair and clip back the front parts. I shake my head slightly to get my bangs in place and do one last check in the mirror before heading to my closet.
Too pink. Too casual. Too tight. Too- ugh where did I even get that from? I start moving the hangers faster, getting frustrated with my lack of options. I move past a pastel purple dress- wait. I go back to the dress and grab it off the rod, holding it up in the light.
When did I buy this? My eyebrows furrow as I look at the beautiful and delicate dress that I must’ve forgotten about. I pull it off the hanger and slowly put it on, saying a silent prayer that it fits.
I smooth the soft material out and look in the mirror. I’m pleasantly surprised by how the dress fits. It’s silk with spaghetti straps and is a lilac color with little flowers all over it.
I don’t have time to overthink my outfit now. I throw on my roommate’s white Timberlands, grab my black purse, making sure my ID, wallet, and phone are all tucked safely inside. I grab my press pass and put the lanyard around my head carefully.
Taking a deep breath, I walk out to the living room where my roommate is sitting waiting for me to come out.
I clear my throat and try not to look too awkward. Ryan looks up from her MacBook and gasps, tossing her laptop onto the couch next to her, she moves over to me, her long legs gracefully walking around the coffee table.
She investigates every part of my outfit, making me feel small and self-conscious. Before I can stop myself, I start rambling in a quiet tone, “Is-is this too much? Do you th-think it looks okay?”
She grasps my shoulders and a wide smile makes its way onto her face, “Of course, you look amazing!” I smile at her and she winks at me, “When that pretentious ass sees you- he might want to do more than just let you interview him.”
I snort and roll my eyes and she laughs, “Yeah right,” I mumble.
She walks over to our coat rack and pulls off a small black cardigan, “Here, I know it gets cold in there,” I smile gratefully and take it from her, folding it over the crook of my arm and taking a deep breath.
I start to walk towards the door and she calls my name, I look back at her as I open the door, “You look hot Lil- knock ‘em dead,” I smile at her and nod, walking out before I get sappy.
I pull into the busy parking lot of the arena and gulp down my bubbling anxiety. I find a parking spot, towards the back of the lot seeing as I don’t get bothered by having to walk a little. I go up to the line, seeing a sign that says, ‘PRESS ENTRANCE HERE’ I smile at the worker looking at me and pointing to the Press sign and then at my pass hanging around my neck, he nods.
I go towards the other entrance and show a different security guard my pass and he opens a door for me, I smile up at him, “Thank you-” I glance at the small name tag, “Don.” He blushes slightly and coughs.
I blush too and walk through the door quickly. I realize that I’m ‘backstage’ and can hear the fans cheering for one of the main card fights happening. I check my small watch and see that it’s going to be another hour or so before Grayson Dolan fights.
I take another deep breath and start walking forward, trying not to look like a lost puppy and failing when a man wearing a UFC crew shirt comes over to me with furrowed brows, “Who’re you looking for?”
I look at him, his deep voice vibrating against the walls, “Grayson Dolan,” I answer back.
He gives me a once-over and I try not to make a face when he meets my eyes and smirks, “Oh, he’ll like you.” I furrow my brows but decide not to question it as he points down a long hallway, “Four doors down, take a right, then the last door on the left is him- the one that’ll say, Grayson Dolan.” I thanked him even though he was a bit rude, and made my way down.
Once I turn down the hallway I see someone sitting outside one of the rooms on a single chair. I make my way closer and my heart drops into my stomach when I see it’s a girl sitting outside Grayson Dolan’s room, “Hello? Are-Are you okay?”
The girl looks up at me from her phone and gives me a once-over, except it’s different from the way the worker did- she looks annoyed with me. She stands up, her high heels making her about an inch or two taller than me, “Who are you?” She asks, crossing her arms over her chest, pushing her cleavage up.
I cough to clear my throat a little, taken back by her abrasive tone, “I’m a reporter- Are you okay?”
“I’m perfectly fine, and if you’re here for Grayson Dolan- he won’t talk to you.”
“I- I’m sorry, why do you say that?” The woman steps closer to me and I try not to gag at the smell of her cheap, overused perfume. I step back from her and she straightens up slightly, glowering at me.
“Just run along, maybe you’ll understand when you’re grown,” She says, looking back at her phone, when she glances up and sees I’m not leaving she rolls her eyes, “Grayson Dolan doesn’t talk to reporters. I wouldn’t be surprised if you weren’t actually a reporter anyway, you’re probably just here to fuck him, huh? Get in line,” She laughs.
My whole body feels like it’s on fire. I don’t understand why she’s being so rude and malicious towards me but I have to get this interview. I can’t let people like her bring me down anymore. When she gives me a fake smile and sits back down, I decide to be the bigger person. Not snapping back at her and ignoring her. Because she doesn’t know me and she doesn’t know what I’ve been through.
The door opens before I can say anything anyways and we both look over, startled. A man looks over at us, then turn and glances back inside the room before he nods, looking at me, and asking what my name is, “Lily Taylor, here with Ace Publis-” I try to tell him but he cuts me off opening the door wider and my eyes widen as he tells me to come in. I try to keep from laughing when the girl asks if she can come in but he just shakes his head at her, I turn around quickly before he shuts the door, “If I were you- I wouldn’t lie to others and say you’re around his age, it’s very obvious that you’re old enough to be his mom,” And the door shuts on her shocked face.
I realize my heart is pounding in my ears and that is probably the meanest thing I’ve ever done, “I should probably apologize,” I whisper to myself and jump slightly when I hear a deep chuckle.
“What can I help you with, Ms. Taylor?” My shoulders tense at the familiar voice and I turn around slowly, facing a couch with a very amused Grayson Dolan sitting on it.
“I- I’m so sorry for being so rude to her. I didn’t mean to be.”
“Why do you think I’d care about her? She’s been sitting out there for two hours,” He laughs and I think he caught the raise of my eyebrow but ignores it, “I asked you once, Ms. Taylor, I don’t like repeating myself.” He reminds me of his question.
I square my shoulders, “I’m here with Ace Publishing & Co., I would love if you could answer some questions for me,” I smile at him, trying to come off as friendly.
His amused expression drops and he scoffs, “You’re one of them? God- here I was hoping you were a die-hard fan. Was going to make you feel very special,” He smirks at me and I scrunch my nose out of habit at his gross words. I quickly stop, realizing I need this, “Frank- show Ms. Taylor out please,” He sighs, and my eyes widen and I stick my hands out and Frank stops moving for a second.
“Wait! Wait! Please I-” Frank huffs at my refusal to move and grabs my arm as I move closer to Grayson, “Please. I wouldn’t be this adamant if I didn’t need this. Please. My career is counting on this moment. Please, I will get down on my knees and beg if I have to, please,” I put my hands in a pleading gesture, hoping he’d take pity.
He holds his hand up to Frank and he lets go of my arm, I sigh and straighten up a little, hoping to gain back some of the dignity I seemed to have lost, “What do you mean?” He cocks his head to the side curiously and I blush, glancing at the ground.
“My boss he uh- he told me that if I don’t get at least a quote from you I can kiss my job goodbye and well, it’s not the best job but I’ve worked my ass off to get where I’m at and he’s being unfair and I understand that this isn’t your problem and I understand why you don’t like to talk to interviewers-”
He cuts me off, “You know why I don’t talk to interviewers?” I look up at him and nod meekly, “Why? Explain it to me,” he crosses his arms and I think he might be upset with me.
I look back down at the ground and take a breath, glancing back up at him through my lashes, “You don’t do interviews because doing an interview is personal and revealing. You’re scar- scared to let the world see who the Grayson Dolan is because you don’t think they’ll like you as much.”
He cocks his eyebrow and uncrosses his arm, sighing, looking away from me to the wall, his tongue pressing against the inside of his cheek as he contemplates for a minute, “You got like 20 minutes to ask me whatever you want, and no stupid questions that all the interviewers ask, okay?” I nod and move to sit in the chair next to the couch.
“Do you mind if I record this? I’d like to keep this paper-free, meaning I don’t have a notebook out and try to write everything down. We’re just going to have a conversation and let it flow. I can stop recording at any time if you say something you’d like erased. I’m not here to expose you, just here to get to know you. As a person. Not as a fighter. I’m not going to ask you anything about how being a fighter’s been or what your inspiration is. I’m going to ask you about you. As a whole. Because the UFC is not your personality,” I explain to him, pulling my phone out and pulling up my voice memos app and looking back up to him, waiting for an answer.
He stares at me until finally, I say his name quietly, hoping he’s okay, he blinks and flushes, shifting, “Sorry, y-yeah, that’s okay. I just- I didn’t expect you to be like- acting like a human.”
I laugh and start recording, “Maybe that means I’m a bad journalist? I don’t know- I feel like it’s easier to connect and get the questions in without papers and cameras and all that other stuff.”
(this part is going to be a dialogue as though we are just listening to the recording)
“That makes sense, and no I can tell you’re going to be great, you treat me like I’m just- a guy, which doesn’t happen often.”
“I bet, you don’t deserve that though. Okay, I’m going to start us off with some icebreakers- so tell me what your childhood dream job was, your favorite ice cream flavor, and 3 things you do on the weekends.”
“Oh, jeez, what is this- first day of 6th grade? Fine- Uh, I always wanted to be a pro wrestler, that was my dream job as a kid. My favorite- vegan- ice cream flavor is probably mint chocolate chip. And, uhm, three things I do on the weekends...okay okay I got it; eat, sleep, workout. Now you.”
“Me?”
“Yes, you, Miss Reporter. If you want this to flow you gotta participate as well.”
“Okay, fine. Uh- as a kid I always wanted to be a veterinarian, and then when I was like 10 I realized I wanted to be a writer. My favorite ice cream flavor is probably mint chocolate chip as well. And on the weekends...I’d probably say; read, watch fights with my dad, and drink tea with my best friend at a cafe.”
“Every single weekend?”
“Yeah, my dad lives on the other side of the country so we do a FaceTime call and watch UFC together. My roommate has a job that takes up a lot of her time during the week so we go to this small cafe by our house every weekend.”
“Wow.”
(this is where the rest of the interview would be but, for later in the timeline, we aren’t going to cover every question she asks him :))
“Okay, now tell me about your family. Where you grew up, were your parents married, did you have a dog, and how do you think this all helped make you the man you are today?”
“I grew up in New Jersey; my dad left when I was 10. I’m allergic to dogs and cats, so I have a parrot named Gizmo. My mom never remarried and my sister lives with her. My brother and I moved to LA when we were 18, with no money, no job, just hope. We went to a gym and asked them if they’d train us. The next thing I knew, my brother was getting a job working at the gym and becoming one of my trainers. I learned how to fight and used my wrestling experience and worked my way into the UFC.”
“You didn’t answer my last question.”
“Yes, I did.”
“No, you told me how you got started in the UFC. I don’t want to know about that- everyone knows that story already. I want to know how you think the things you went through as a child have shaped you as a person.”
“I- I guess- I don’t know, to be honest. I don’t think much of who I’ve become so that question is hard to answer.”
“Why do you say that? You are one of the most accomplished men in America.”
“To others, but this- I wasn’t supposed to be a fighter. Everyone sees me as accomplished but I just feel like this was an accident. There was no great event in my life that caused me to become an MMA fighter- it just happened.”
“You don’t believe in fate, Mr. Dolan?”
“No, I don’t. Do you, Ms. Taylor?”
“Yes, I believe that we all have a path we are meant to follow and that everything happens for a reason.”
“Why?”
“Because- I don’t know- it’s nicer than the alternative to me, I guess. I don’t want to live in a world where nothing has a reason behind it. We’ll move on to the next question. You don’t disclose personal information; relationships, family, children, etcetera.”
“Where are you going with this?”
“Why is that? Are you afraid?”
“Afraid? Of what?”
“The same reason I said earlier as to why you don’t like interviews; you are scared people will see the real Grayson Dolan and not like you as much or think you’re different.”
“Are you like- a profiler or something? Why do you think that?”
“I’m not a profiler- I’m a journalist. It’s my job to look for clues, pick up on the small things about someone no one else would notice.”
“Ok, I’ll accept that. Is it my turn to ask you questions?”
“No that’s not how this works.”
“You said you wanted this to be like a normal conversation, did you not?”
“Yes, I did say that, but-”
“Okay, well, I don’t know about you but normally when I’m getting to know someone- I get to ask questions just like they do.”
“Fine. What do you want to know?”
“I want to know...if you’ll go out with me?”
“What? Like on a- like on a date?”
“Yes, a date, Ms. Taylor.”
“Uh- I don’t know, maybe, I-”
“30 minutes to the fight, Dolan! Gotta get you warmed-up!”
(the story is back to normal now)
“So?” He questions as he stands up and I try to gather all my stuff. Trying to push down the butterflies while I stop the recording. I just continue to get more flustered, especially when he puts his hand out for me and I shyly take it, he pulls me to my feet and I stare at him through my lashes.
“I- sure. On one condition,” I smile slyly up at him and he raises an eyebrow at me, I ignore the unfamiliar feeling between my thighs at the look on his face and continue quickly, “You have to win this fight. I’ll be in the front row watching. If you win- I’ll go out with you.”
He smiles and then chuckles, “I thought you were going to make it hard? I could win this fight in my sleep baby, I’ll let you know the time after the fight, just stick around, yeah?”
I snort and roll my eyes, ignoring the pull on my heart when he calls me baby, “I’ll be there,” He smiles at me again and I jump a little in surprise when I feel his warm, large hand on the small of my back, he opens the door for me and leads me into the hallway.
I try not to laugh at the face of the Instagram model when she sees Grayson’s hand on me, “I’ll be looking for you in the front row, just so you know.” He teases.
I smile at him and kiss him on the cheek, “I’ll be the one cheering the loudest. Knock Em dead!” I walk away quickly and glance back seeing him standing there, his right hand gently going up to touch the spot I kissed and we both blush. My heart drops into my stomach when he looks over and sees the model. I have to turn the corner and get to my seat so I don’t see how he reacted. He wouldn’t sleep with her right after asking me out, would he? My subconscious snaps back; you barely know the man! Maybe he does this all the time! I push her down and ignore the bad feeling in my gut.
As I sit down in my seat, everything that just happened hits me and I slouch into my seat, what. the. fuck. I’m going on a date with Grayson Dolan! I got an interview with Grayson Dolan! I kissed Grayson Dolan on the cheek! I bite back a smile and take out my phone, taking a video showing me smiling at the camera, then flipping the camera around and showing off how close I am to the octagon. I sent it to my dad quickly.
He responds almost immediately.
*From Daddy: Wow!! So cool! Have tons of fun! Not too much though! Not ready to be a grandpa...yet ;)
I snort and roll my eyes, responding and then turning my phone off when the lights in the arena dim.
*To Daddy: Lmao, shut up. I’ll try to have fun though! The main card is starting! I’ll talk to you later, love you <3
After I watch a few of the fights before Graysons’, I take some pictures and jot down some information about the fights and who won, knowing it’ll add more substance to my piece.
I watch as the whole arena transforms and the whole place is bursting with barely-contained energy and the place goes dark. Suddenly, lights start beaming and music starts playing, I smile at the Kid Cudi (each fight he uses a different Cudi song) choice for tonight- Enter Galactic as it blasts through the speakers everyone goes wild, Grayson moving swiftly to the octagon with his head low and singing the song softly to himself. I can tell he’s not the same Grayson I was talking to, he has flipped the switch- as he told me he does- and is now The Grayson Dolan- UFC Fighter and Champion.
He takes his shirt off and I blush at his tan skin, the rippling muscles making my brain go straight in the gutter. The ‘doc’ pats him down and puts vaseline on his face. I try not to laugh at how weird he looks with his eyebrows slicked down.
He makes his way into the octagon and I see him scanning the front row when his eyes land on mine. I smile at him but he just gives me a curt nod in response before turning away. I’m taken aback by his attitude but I know he has to stay in his fighter mentality.
The other fighter, Dominick Reyes, comes in and he has a good amount of people cheer for him but the majority of the arena boos when he comes out. I know that having some of how this fight goes in my article will make it look better because it’s such a big deal, so I jot some notes down, some about Grayson and some about Reyes.
I subconsciously chew on my nail, scolding myself when I realize what I’m doing. He’s going to win. I tell myself to calm down, I’ve never been to a fight before so the chaotic and anxiety-filled energy around me must be getting to my head.
The ref announces them both, and then they go to the middle, Grayson goes to touch Reyes’ fist, but Reyes pulls back and smirks at Grayson, “C’mon pretty boy,” he sings.
Grayson’s jaw clenches and he starts moving around the octagon, Reyes slowly falling into a pattern of chasing him around. Grayson continues to step to the right until suddenly, he moves to the left, and Reyes doesn’t see it. I watch in astonishment as he puts all of his power into the punch, hitting Reyes perfectly on the temple. Reyes drops to the ground and Grayson’s about to follow him to the mat but the ref stops him, officially calling the fight. Grayson looks over at me, my mouth hanging wide open and he smirks, winking at me.
That asshole just winked at me.
I stand up quickly, cheering loudly with everyone else and he shakes his head, turning back to his team as they run into the octagon to hug him. Once Grayson is done with everything and the crowd starts shuffling out, Grayson comes over to me, “D’you see that?” He smiles and I smile back.
“Yeah, yeah, I saw,” He chuckles and grabs my arm pulling me into him.
I gasp as I hit his hard, sweaty chest, “You’re sweaty,” I scrunch my nose up and try to pull away but he tightens his grip, staring down at me with a mischievous glint in his eyes.
“You owe me a date,” He responds and I roll my eyes, ignoring the hammering of my heart at how close we are to each other.
“What time and where?” I say, acting bored.
He chuckles down at me, “I’ll pick you up at 5:30. This Saturday. Just bring your beautiful self and don’t worry about anything else.”
“What’s the dress code?” I raise my eyebrow and he shrugs.
“Whatever you want to wear, although I’ll tell you right now they might frown upon you wearing lingerie or something like that.”
I snort and as he moves away from me a little and we start walking behind his team I realize that I’m a lot colder than I realized, rubbing my arms subconsciously and realizing that I left my sweater in the car damn it.
Grayson notices me rubbing my arms and bumps my shoulder, “You cold?”
“A little. I have a sweater in the car, I’ll be fine.”
He frowns as he opens the door to his dressing(?) room, “I have a jacket you can wear.”
He goes over to a chair in the corner and grabs a big, soft black jacket with DOLAN on the back and the UFC and Reebok logo on the front. I shake my head, “No, r-really it’s- it’s okay,”
“Just take it, you can give it back later, s’not a big deal, I don’t need it. I’m way too hot right now.”
He hands it over to me and I look down at it in his hands and then glance back at him, crossing my arms. He rolls his eyes and comes over to me, putting it on my shoulders and looking down at me, “Just wear it. Please?” He whispers and I flush, seeing that if I moved too fast our lips would be touching.
I nod softly and he steps back. I take a deep breath and put my arms through the sleeves and the jacket immediately warms me. I relax into the warmth and pull it tighter around me and he smirks, “Like you in my clothes.”
I blush and look down, “I- I should be goi-going,” I point my thumb at the door and he bites back a smile.
“Yeah, I’ll see you Saturday then?”
I nod and stutter out a response as I walk back to the door, “Y-yep! 5:30! Wait- I didn’t give you my address o-or my phone num-Ow!” I yelp in surprise when the door handle digs into my lower back and he can’t hold back his laugh as he walks over to me, trapping me between him and the door.
I swallow at his large frame covering me up, his arms resting on each side of the wall by my head, I can see his large biceps and the veins running up his arms in my peripheral vision. He smirks and leans down, “Check your pocket,” he says softly and I look up at him with furrowed brows.
I slowly move my hands to the jacket pockets and after digging around a little I feel a small piece of paper in the right pocket. I pull it out and open it up. I glance up at him in surprise at the digits scribbled onto the paper.
“H-How did you- why-” He cuts me off by moving away from me, my body on fire from how close he had been to me.
I move off the door when he motions for me to move and he opens the door, “Ms. Taylor,” He says, trying to hide a smirk.
I scoff incredulously and walk past him, stopping outside the door in the cold hallway, I turn back to look at him before I walk away to go have a panic attack in my car, “Mr. Dolan.”
A/n: okayyy so I know it’s bad and I’ll be editing it soon but I’m posting this on an ipad lmfao so please cut me some slack.

Grayson and I have been together since junior year of high school when I moved to New Jersey. He was in my English class, my best class and his worst. I eventually offered to tutor him and he accepted which I eventually found out why. He thought I was the pretty new girl who wanted to give him my time of day even if it was just for tutoring. He needed a tutor though so he could stay on the team. An F in English meant baseball season on the bench so he was so glad I decided to be his saving grace. It was his junior year and that’s when college scouts really start to look. Granted Grayson played varsity ball as a freshman and always caught the eyes of scouts but now it’s do or die. He invited me to the first home game and of course, I went. I had to see why he needed to pass so badly. To say I was surprised by his skill was an understatement. He was a triple threat. He could run, he could hit, and he was beautiful in the field. Not to mention how good he looked in that jersey especially when it wasn’t buttoned all the way, he looked like a baseball player you see on a calendar. You also can’t forget how big his ass was (and still is) in his baseball pants. It made my heart skip a beat. After the game, he asked me to be his girlfriend and I obviously said yes. Thanks to me he passed and had a winning season as well as earning the team MVP award. Scouts from all over the state were looking at him. Rutgers, Princeton, Stockton, and many more whether they be private or public. He had out of state colleges looking at him too. He loved baseball, it was his passion and he loved me, I was his world.
Senior year came quickly which meant a lot to both of us. I had to go to school and Grayson needed to get a scholarship. I loved Grayson with every fiber of my being. I made a decision with myself if the college Grayson chose had my major I would follow him there as long as he wanted me to, of course. Spring semester hit fast which meant that baseball season was right around the corner. Grayson trained daily and he never gave up. Opening Day senior year they played our arch rivals and won with a score of 6-2. I, of course, had my customized shirt for all of his games. The name of our high school team on the front and on the back read “Dolan’s Girl” with a large 7 plastered underneath it. I was his lucky girl and 7 was his lucky number. His parents, his grandparents, Cameron, and Ethan were all there to support their star player. He had an excellent game. Two hits, three RBI’s, and made an incredible play at third that astounded everyone. Scouts attacked Grayson after the game wanting to know his post-high school plans. A week later Grayson signed with Rutgers’ University.
“Congrats, Gray! I’m so proud of you!”  I congratulated. “I’m so excited. They were one of my top schools” he smiled as he hugged me tightly. Later that night after the signing party I started talking about our future. “Gray?” I asked. “Yes, babe?” he replied. “I love you and I know you love me but I also know you love baseball. My grades will get me into anywhere and I already applied at Rutgers. I also have already gotten accepted. I have not pledged to anywhere so I want to know what’s going to happen with us?” I asked tears pricking at the back of my eyes, fearing his answer. “Baby, I want you to go where you want to go. If you want to come to Rutgers with me I would love that more than anything but I want you to go where you are going to be happy. Don’t let MY scholarship hold you back” he said as he wrapped his arms around me. “Gray some school isn’t going to make me happy when you already make me the happiest girl in the world” I admitted. “Well then it looks like we’re going to Rutgers in the fall then huh?” he smiled and I nodded. Grayson’s senior baseball season had its moments, both happy and sad. He was so excited for what awaited him but leaving the team he’s known for the last four years broke his heart.
The next fall we both started our freshman year at Rutger’s University. We got lucky that our schedules matched up well. We didn’t have any classes together but a lot of our breaks were at the same time so we still managed to see each other that is until baseball season started. Spring semester I really only saw Grayson once or twice a week or at his home games. It really tested our relationship but I knew we only had to make it to summer and he was pretty much mine again.
Every year after came with more trials and tribulations. Sophomore year came with more credits, more classes, fewer breaks, and less Grayson but we managed once again. Both of us knew that we were meant to be and we just had to make it through college. Everyone loved Grayson at college, he was always invited to parties and of course, I always went with him. Junior year meant buckling down and making sure everything was in order for our last year so we could both graduate on time. We ended up in the same class junior year which was a godsend. I missed my boyfriend but I knew that school and baseball were important. It’s not that Grayson ignored me or made excuses, it’s that we both had so much to do it was hard to make time but we managed nonetheless.
Senior year, Grayson and I decided to rent a one bedroom apartment about 15 minutes from campus. There was a celebratory senior party that Grayson and I had to attend. We were both so close to our degrees we could feel it. It was late August. It was warm and the whole frat house was buzzing. We both knew it was going to be one of our only chances to get sloshed all year so we did just that.
Six weeks later came fall break and I was so excited to have a couple days with Grayson all to myself. Grayson and I had gotten all of our assignments done so we would be solely focused on each other and that’s exactly what happened until I  started throwing up. I spent all day Sunday emptying the contents of my stomach into the toilet. “Baby, are you sick?” he asked. “Maybe, but I don’t feel sick,” I said as I reached for a new roll of toilet paper then I noticed my box of tampons. “Gray?” I yelled. “Yes, babe?” he replied. “What’s the date?” I asked. “The 17th, why?” he answered and my heart fell into the pit of my stomach.I was almost two weeks late and I was so worried about getting everything caught up before fall break so I could spend time with Grayson that I totally forgot about it. “Why did you need to know the date?” he asked. “Grayson, my period is almost two weeks late” I admitted and his face fell. “I mean it doesn’t necessarily mean pregnancy right? It could be stress” he suggested. “Well, there’s only one way to find out” I shrugged as I grabbed my things and headed to the nearest pharmacy. Once I found the pregnancy tests that I wanted I went back to our shared apartment filled with nerves. After waiting the three minutes for the results I  picked up the pregnancy test that sat before me. Pregnant.
“Grayson” I cried out and he came running in. “Baby, Y/N. Breathe, it’s ok. We will get through this. It’s senior year. We’re almost done then when this little one gets here we will be graduated or almost done then we can be a little family” he said. “This isn’t how we planned this all out, Gray. How did this happen?” I whimpered. “Well, we may or may not have used a condom after that party. I don’t remember. I’m sorry, baby. It’s all my fault we’re in this mess” he whispered. “We’re? Grayson, this is on me. This baby is residing in me! You don’t have to be here” I sobbed. “Y/N, do you really think I am going to leave you when you’re pregnant with my baby?” he asked, hurt filling his voice. “You don’t have to stay, Grayson. This is my responsibility, go play baseball” I shrugged. “Y/N, stop. I am not going anywhere. I promise you, I will be with you every step of the way. Going to appointments, helping you pick out names and furniture. This baby isn’t just yours, it’s ours. Maybe we’re not quite ready for it but we were meant to have this little peanut and it’s happening. This isn’t how we planned it but that’s the fun of it all. It’s going to be ok” he encouraged. “I love you, Gray. I’m sorry I tried to make you leave” I said. “No matter how hard you tried, I was never leaving you” he promised.
We were both a little scared to tell our families but we were adults, we were almost done with school, and our families knew we’d be amazing parents. They were all pretty understanding for the most part which made it all a little easier. My first trimester was filled with a lot of surprises. Turns out our little peanut turned into two little peanuts. We were having twins which was terrifying, to say the least. Grayson was excited on the other hand as his little girls would know what it’s like being a twin just like he did with Ethan. My second trimester really started to test my limits. It was a new semester and my belly was growing like a weed not to mention it was Grayson’s senior year of baseball. Thankfully, I only had my internship to go to which was on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s meaning I could go to all of his home games. I always tried when we were younger but now it was easier than ever. Freshman year for Christmas Grayson got me a Rutger’s baseball shirt with “Dolan’s Girl” on the back of it. He had to change his number because seven was already taken. He decided to do 16 because that was the day he and Ethan were born. This year for Christmas he got me a new one that was a little bigger knowing I probably wouldn’t be able to fit in it this season especially with having twins. I smiled at the thought. “You didn’t even notice” he mumbled. “Notice what? That it is huge because I am going to be a whale?” I retorted. “No, calm down. Read the back again” he said. I flipped the shirt over and instead of it saying “Dolan’s Girl” on the back it read “Dolan’s Girls”. Tears began streaming down my face before I could say anything in response. “There’s not just one of you anymore, baby. There’s three” he smiled before kissing my forehead then wiping the tears off of my cheeks. “I love you, Gray” I whispered. “I love you too,” he said.
It’s the first home game of the season and Grayson was excited. There had been talk of major and minor league scouts coming to watch Grayson and couple other seniors. We had teams from all over the country from the Yankees, to the Cubs, to the Dodgers, teams from coast to coast who were interested in him. It was exciting but scary all at the same time. I was so incredibly proud but we had two little ones to think about even if they weren’t here yet. That night after the game I brought it up to Grayson. “Hey, babe?” I asked. “Yes, dear?” he replied. “Have you thought about the future?” I started off rather vague. “Well, I know we’re going to have two beautiful little girls because they take after their momma and we will have our degrees, why?” he asked. “Well, what about baseball?” I asked curiously. “What about it?” he asked. “It’s your senior year what if a minor or major league scout wants you?” I  asked scared for the answer. “I haven’t thought about it” he shrugged. “Grayson, how have you not? I think about it all the time!” I yelled. “Because I am more worried about you and our girls before this hobby I have. Baseball is a hobby, you three are my life, Y/N” he explained. “You really need to think about it before you agree to something you don’t mean to” I admitted. “What do you think I should do?” he asks. “Well, I mean you have to look at the pros and cons, Gray. You’d make really good money but there would be a lot of traveling which you’re used to that but you have little girls to think about. I mean we can move to wherever during the season and then come back to Jersey in the offseason if that’s what you want. Baseball is your passion, Grayson and I don’t want you to lose that” I explained. “Baseball was my passion. Don’t get me wrong I still love it and if I didn’t have these little peanuts to think about we’d be going to wherever they want me but it’s not just us anymore” he said. “I know, Gray. It would be hard but they’d have such a good life. We’d never have to worry and I mean they’d be so cute in the team gear. It’s up to you, Gray and I want you to do what makes you happy. If you don’t want to or think it’s a bad idea then I will support you but don’t say no because you have a family. Lots of major and minor leaguers have families. We can make it work, baby”. A couple weeks later he was picked up by a minor league affiliate from Boston. Thankfully, not too far from New Jersey. Starting the following baseball season he would play for the Double-A Team for the Boston Red Sox. They are the Portland Sea Dogs and they play in Maine which is only about 5 hours away from New Jersey. He had to continue training throughout the winter which is expected but I was definitely excited about this new chapters of our lives.
College started coming to a close quickly as we graduate in a week. Grayson only has a few more games left and then it’s the postseason. Shortly after that, the twins will be here. “Grayson I am going to look like a damn whale crossing that stage” I groaned. “Baby, you’re pregnant with twins” he smiled. “Yeah, your big ass twins. These babies are going to kill me! What if I fall? What if my water breaks?” I exaggerate. “Quit being dramatic or I am going to start calling you Ethan” he retorts and I rolled my eyes in response. “Grayson, can you believe we did it? We’re graduating college and then we’re going to be parents” I said full of shock. “I know, it’s crazy. I’ve gotten so many opportunities and there were some bumps along the way including the one you’re sporting right now but I couldn’t be happier” he smiled kissing my lips.
A week later, it was graduation day. Both of our families sat in the audience waiting for our names to be called to celebrate one of the biggest days in both of our lives. Cheers erupting after every name but when both of our names were said our families blew all of the rest out of the water. After the ceremony, we all went out to eat to celebrate all of Grayson and I’s accomplishments. Not to mention, that Ethan graduates next weekend from Stockton. We also were going to tell our families the news about Grayson’s signing because no one except us and Ethan had any idea.
“Mom, dad” I sighed. “Uh, yeah,” Grayson said rubbing the back of his head. “You guys know that baseball is Grayson’s passion. He’s played since T-ball and has loved it ever since. He played with Ethan until Ethan outgrew it but he continued. As we’ve gotten older he’s fallen even more in love with it” I started. “Y/N’s right and along the way I found my number one fan, other than my parents and E, of course” he chuckled. “Anyway, I was offered to play in a minor league affiliate for the Boston Red Sox” he announced and everyone’s faces dropped. “You’re moving to Boston!” my dad shouted. “No, sir. Nothing is happening until next baseball season. Come April I will be playing out of Portland, Maine on the Double-A affiliate team, the Portland Sea Dogs. Now, this is an amazing opportunity” Grayson explained. “It is and we have these two little ones to think about. I know it’s going to be hard for us to be away from all of you but we’re going to be moving to Portland next spring so when Grayson is home he can be with the girls. We know this is a lot but you’ve raised us to be good people and we’re adults now. I know this is going to be hard but we can do this”.
Two weeks later we had two beautiful girls. Addison Rose and Amelia Bailey Dolan. Grayson sitting right next to me missing his final game of the regular season but he didn’t care his family was much more important. A couple of days later we got to go back to our apartment. We were already looking for a two bedroom apartment to move to seems how our lease was up in July. Grayson was an incredible dad. Even on nights before or after a game he would be up at 2 am helping me with the twins. Of course, I would always tell him to go back to bed but he insisted. “I helped you make them, I help with the dirty work,” he told me every time I tried to fight him about it. Two weeks later the game was a home game, giving Rutgers the home field advantage. I was surprising Grayson. I hadn’t been to a game since before the girls were born. It was 80 degrees and the twins were doing so well. I asked his family to join me so they could watch him play because if they moved on the game would be nowhere near New Jersey. It was probably going to be their last time watching Grayson play college ball.
The girls each had little Rutgers onesies that said “Daddy’s #1 fan” on them. I met Grayson’s family for lunch beforehand then we followed each other to the field. We sat in a shaded area of the stadium so the twins wouldn’t be in the harsh rays of the sun. Grayson played third base and that’s what side we were sitting on so his back was to facing us most of the game. Which meant I got a great view of his ass in the baseball pants. It was the bottom of the second inning and he was the first one up to bat. “Up first, Grayson Dolan. Number 16” the announcer said. “Go, Gray! That’s my baby daddy!” I yelled and he looks at the noise. He smiles as he sees his small family and then the rest of his family as well. Soon enough it’s 3-2, full count minus the outs. We’ve all watched Gray long enough to know where his sweets spots are. Watching the ball soar out of the pitcher’s hands, I knew it was a good one. I knew I was right when I heard the sweet crack of his bat. I watched the ball soar until it landed in the right-field seats. Everyone roaring as my boyfriend made his way around the bases, waving at me and then our girls as he rounded second. He returned to the dugout and was attacked by his team for getting a lead early on. It was nearing the end of the game. The last inning and they were tied. 3-3 and Grayson was due up third. The first person got on with a single then managed to steal second. The next batter grounded out. Then it was Grayson. He already had one home run for the day but a single may even win this game. On the first pitch, he swung his bat hoping for yards. I watched the ball soar straight into the bleachers, this time into leftfield. He had just hit the walk-off 2 run home run to send them to Nationals. His teammates flooded home plate as the other team exited the field saddened by their loss. Everyone cheered as he crossed the plate. He made it onto the college ESPN channel a few hours later. Everyone had gone their separate ways. I was at home with the girls watching the reruns when an interview came up and it was with Grayson. “So you had not just one but two home runs today, one of them being a two-run home run to seal the win moving your team to nationals, how did that feel?” the announcer asked. “It felt great, it’s my last few games at Rutgers and my girlfriend surprised me at the game with our twin girls who are only a few weeks old so I had to score a point for all three of my girls, I just hope I did them all justice and they're proud of me” he said as a tear rolled down my face, proud was an understatement. “We are so proud of you, Gray. Aren’t we Addy Rose? Your daddy makes mommy so proud. Then look at you Lia Bug, you are just so smiley hearing your daddy’s voice on the tv” I cooed to my small children. I was so captivated by the interview and the girls, I never heard Grayson come in. “You’re either really sleep deprived or you actually are proud of me,” he said causing me to jump. “A little bit of both actually but of course, I’m proud of you. Even if you would’ve had the worst game of your life I would’ve been proud of you” I smiled as I stood up walking over to Grayson and pecking his lips. “Thank you for coming. That meant the world to me to have them go to at least one of these games, It’s the best feeling ever” he smiled looking over to our girls who were fast asleep. “They were so good, I think they love watching daddy play” I admitted. “Well they better get used to it,” he said kissing my forehead. “No, kidding”.
April came around quicker than either of us imagined. We moved into a small house with three bedrooms. One for Gray and I, one for the girls, and one as a guest bedroom when one of our families comes to visit. The twins are 10 months old and are both complete daddy’s girls. Gray started his games and practices while I stayed home with the girls. April was still a little chilly to take the girls to games but once it warmed up we would definitely go support Grayson and his teammates. He seemed to enjoy his new baseball team, he had even made a few friends which I was thankful for. One was even married with a one and a half-year-old son so they knew what we were going through.
April and May flew by. June hit and the twins turned one. My family and Gray’s both came for the weekend so we could celebrate Addy and Lia turning one. It was mind-blowing that I had one-year old’s when it seems like just yesterday when we graduating and they were being born. Gray had a day game on Sunday after the twins birthday so we all went to see him in action. Grayson had been following this passion since he was 6 when he and Ethan started in T-ball. He never lost touch with who he was and why he fell in love with baseball. In high school when we met, he only began to love it more because he knew he needed to prove that I didn’t waste my time tutoring him so he could play. The truth is even if he sucked I would have loved him anyway. He has the biggest heart, a wonderful personality, a beautiful laugh, and is one of the most amazing people I have ever met. He has turned into an even better baseball player, he is a wonderful boyfriend and an absolutely amazing father. I could not have picked a better person to follow around the country pursuing his dream.
And speaking of pursuing his dream, at the end of his first season they are already moving him up to Triple A. Unfortunately that means we have to move again. Thankfully we have a month to month lease as a lot of the realty companies understand the baseball world and work with our schedules. So during the offseason, we will be moving to Pawtucket, Rhode Island so Grayson can play for the Boston Triple-A affiliate, the Pawtucket Red Sox. I wasn’t looking forward to moving but we would be a couple hours closer to New Jersey which made everyone a little bit happier. Grayson continued to train during the offseason and he always helped with the girls as they were pushing a year and a half old. They could crawl, walk, and were talking pretty well by now. I was so incredibly proud of my little girls and even though they were identical like Ethan and Grayson we had our ways of telling them apart. Lia even though she was younger was much more caring and maternal like Grayson always was (and still kind of is) with Ethan. Addy was much more mischievous like her uncle E. Addy was the bigger twin though and she often got hurt as she was also a little more clumsy hence why Lia is so maternal. They both have beautiful personalities. Addy is loud and mischievous like a perfect mix of Ethan and Grayson whereas Lia was a little bossy but not until she was comfortable. She was a lover and leader which was a hard mix to handle sometimes. They both were spitting images of the twins but as females. They had dark and wavy/curly hair, honey colored eyes that gleamed in the sun, and Gray’s cute button nose. It looks as if Ethan and Grayson made them and I had absolutely nothing to do with it but that’s alright. They’re daddy-and their Uncle E- grew up to be very handsome men so they’ll both turn out to be beautiful girls (even though they are the most beautiful children I have ever seen but that may be a little biased). The girls love going to Grayson’s games. Lisa made them both red and navy blue tutus to wear to his baseball games along with little t-shirts that have the club insignia on the front with Dolan and number 16  on the back. I had a matching shirt to theirs and I wore blue jeans instead of a tutu whenever we went to the games to support Gray. Every time Grayson would stand in the on-deck circle the girls would yell and cheer excitedly to see what Gray would do at the plate. Even if he struck out they would yell they loved him and he did a good job. They were the best supporters Grayson could ever ask for. We’re quickly closing in on Grayson’s second year in Pawtucket. He had been performing exceptionally well. It’s his third year in the minors and we’re 25 now. The girls are almost two which is beyond crazy. They still seem to amaze me every day, all three of them. Some days are harder than others. The twins realize more when Grayson is gone as they’ve grown. Every time it turns into a meltdown. They cry usually until they both fall asleep in my arms. It’s so hard as they are still too young to understand that Grayson is leaving for a few days maybe a week then he will be back. We usually have movie marathons and popcorn on the nights he leaves and again on the nights, he comes back. Every time he walks in from the journey home he is met with two little girls dashing to the door screaming “daddy” and hugging his legs. He drops his bags, scoops them up, and then gives them all the love they have missed during his absence. “I missed you, daddy,” Lia says. “I missed you too pumpkin,” he says. “Wait no I missed you more,” Addy says. “No, I missed daddy more” Lia argues. “Girls, I know you missed me. It’s ok, I’m right here. Daddy’s tired let’s change into our jammies, snuggle on the couch, and have our movie night” he suggests as the girl's screech in excitement scrambling out of Gray’s arms. “I missed you bub,” I said. “I missed you too, mama” he smiles as he hugs me tight. “That was a rough stretch. We only won two games the whole road trip and there were 9 games” he sighed. “Did you do well?” I asked. “Yeah, I had a hit every game, a couple home runs, scored some runs, and had some good defensive plays” he explained. “Then you did your part, Grayson. You can’t control when everyone else is in a slump when you’ve done your part” I reassured. “I love you so much” he sighed as he slid his head in the crook of my neck. “I love you too, Gray. Let’s go change and watch the movies you promised the girls. We’ve missed you” I said as he removed himself from me. “Gimme a kiss first” he smirked. “Don’t have to tell me twice!”
Grayson’s third year in the minor leagues has come to end. Overall he has done really well hitting a few slumps here or there but he always pulled himself out and put himself back near the top. We were in New Jersey for a few months for holidays and the ooffseasonwhen Grayson got a call from his agent which usually meant there were trade rumors flying around which always made me a little anxious. Five minutes later Gray walked back into the room. “You want the good news or the bad news?” he asked. “Bad” I deadpanned. “The Red Sox have traded me to the Louisville Bats” he admitted and I smirk grew on my face. The bats were the Triple A affiliate for my favorite team, The Cincinnati Reds. “The good news?” I asked. “That’s the Reds affiliate which I’m sure you already know as they are your favorite team but they already said I have an invitation to Spring Training in March!” he said excitedly meaning he could make it up to the majors this year. “That’s amazing Gray!” I shouted. “You excited my first major team could be your favorite team?” he asked. “I’m ecstatic, Gray!” I yelled enthusiastically. “This is the farthest we’re going to have to move” he sighed. “Yea,h but our families are used to it. We can come home for the All Star Game break and they can come to visit whenever but I guess we’re already here we might as well tell your family the news!” I said and he agreed.
We spent the next couple months finding a place near Louisville and in February we moved in to begin the next exciting chapter of our lives. A few weeks after we moved in Grayson left for Spring Training for a month which was really hard for all of us. We were in a brand new place where I knew no one. The twins were never used to Grayson being gone for that long so it was very hard. We had nightly FaceTimes so the girls could see and talk to Grayson. This was the part Grayson hated. The few days away we got accustomed to but the whole month was a learning experience. Soon enough he came back and played a whole year with the Louisville Bats. We always hoped he would move up within the season but it just wasn’t in the stars, at least not yet. Another season went by and in the middle of it the twins turned 3. It’s the following spring and we are faced with another month without Grayson. I’m just hoping the girls have adapted enough that it gets better. We were about half way through Spring Training when Grayson called me. “Babe I have good news!” he almost yelled. “What’s that bub?” I asked. “I’m going to Cincinnati. The original third baseman got injured today in a Spring Training game so they want to bring me up. I’m starting third base this season!” he shouted. “Grayson, that’s amazing baby! I’m so proud of you Gray. You do deserve this” I congratulated. “No, baby. We deserve this” he smiled. “I love you Gray,” I told him. “I love you too, Y/N and our beautiful baby girls,” he said back.
Opening Day in Cincinnati was always extraordinary. It was like a second Christmas. Grayson was so excited to be able to experience and I was so excited to take the girls. They were excited to see their daddy on a big float with confetti and who knows what else. Later that day the game came and it went. Grayson played well. He had a single, scored a run, and had a walk so he was one for three so far in the major leagues. I was so proud of him. The first game I ever watched back in high school I knew he could go far and even if he didn’t I was so proud of him for his work ethic and determination. The first half of the baseball season flew by. Grayson had a .290 batting average which was pretty good especially as a rookie. He had two errors on the season which one of them in my opinion wasn’t an error but whatever. He got along with his teammates. They always loved and commented on his laugh. Even if they were getting blown out if Gray laughed they all felt a little better. His laugh was one of my favorite things about him and one of the first things I ever noticed about him. It’s the game before the All Star break. It’s mid-July, the twins just turned 4 last month, and I’m ready to have Grayson home for a few days in a row. Both of our families decided to fly to Cincy to watch Gray play. Grayson was usually the 5th batter and played at 3rd base so we sat on the third base side. The girls had a red tutu they wore with t-shirts that had the Reds logo on the front along with Dolan and trusty number 16 on the back. I had on a plain Reds shirt and some jean shorts. It was almost 90 degrees which was pretty cool for mid-July and the Reds were playing their rival the St. Louis Cardinals. The first inning went by quickly, three up, three down on both sides. The next inning the Cardinals scored one run of a homerun. The third inning and the fourth were both uneventful. A few hits or walks here or there but no runs. In the 5th Grayson was the 2nd person due up. The team mate in front of him ended up getting walked. I watch my boyfriend of 10 years step up to the plate and as I thought about it 10 years was a long time. It blew my mind how we weren’t married yet but we had our beautiful girls together so I didn’t mind. We live a very busy life.
Grayson had two strikes and three balls, full count when I heard a crack. The ball went flying to deep right field. It flew over the heads of the Cardinals outfielder and into the seats. He ran through the bases behind his teammate. He waved towards us as he round third blowing a kiss to the girls as ran towards home. He got the go ahead run so now it was 2-1 in the bottom of the 5th. The 6th and the top of the 7th flew by. The 7th inning stretch came and some local singer sang “Take Me Out to the Ball Game”. We all began to sit down when they finished but I saw a player run up to the mic afterwards. I quickly realized it was number 16 and that it was Grayson. “Hey, everyone this a little bit of an extended 7th inning stretch but I need to do something I have been waiting a long time to do. Y/N, baby, will you come down here and bring the girls?” he requested. I blushed as I got up and grabbed Addy and Lia’s hands to lead them to home plate where Grayson stood. We finally made it to Grayson. “Hi,” he smiled. “Gray, what is this?” I asked. “You’ll see” he grinned as he looked at me softly. He gave each of the girls a hug before he looked back to me. “Y/N we’ve been together for a long time. Part of high school, all through college, we were blessed with the most beautiful twin girls, and I think it’s time I grow a pair” he started and I knew where this was going. “Not to be cheesy but I really scored with you baby girl. All you’ve done is support from day one before we were even together and you were just my hot tutor.I have loved you for a good chunk of my life and I want to spend the rest of my life loving you like I have every day for the past 10 years. I’ve dreamed of how I was going to do this and I think playing in your favorite major league team’s stadium right before the All Star Break is a perfect time so why don’t we make this little team of ours official?” he said as he sunk down to one knee. I had the girls on either side of me as they looked all around the stadium. “Y/F/N Y/M/N Y/L/N, will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?” he asked as tears streamed down my face. “Yes, Gray. I’d love to be your wife” I nodded as he slid the beautiful ring across my finger. The whole stadium erupted as he stood up and I wrapped my arms around his neck. “I love you so much, Gray. This was so much to take in” I said. “I love you too and you deserve it” he admitted. “Addy, Lia,” I said. “Yes, mommy?” they asked. “Mommy and Daddy are getting married are you excited?” I asked. “Yes!” the shouted. “Why are they so calm?” I asked. “I told them we would get ice cream after the game if they didn’t tell you. They knew before I left this morning. That’s also why both of our families were here. I have been planning this for a couple months now. The extra practices and shit were for me to go pick out a ring” he smirked. “You little shit” I giggled. “Only for you” he smiled as we headed into the clubhouse. “Stay in here and watch the game. Now that everyone knows who you are I don’t want you getting mugged for your ring. I’m going to go play baseball now” he explained. “You do what you do best” I smiled. “Love you,” he said as he headed towards the field. “Love you more Bailey” I smiled as I looked down at my beautiful engagement ring.
Grayson and I had battled a lot of obstacles. Where to go for college, college in general, graduation, having twin girls just weeks after graduating college, his minor league career sending us all over the east coast, and now here to Cincinnati. Life sure has thrown us quite a few curveballs along the way but today was the best one I have ever gotten. Walking into the stadium today laughing with Ethan, talking to my parents, and catching up with Lisa I had no clue I would leave with a beautiful diamond on my left hand. I was so incredibly lucky to be marrying someone as amazing as Grayson. I also never thought I would get proposed to at a baseball game especially in my favorite teams’ stadium. Today was a dream come true and I couldn’t wait to plan our wedding this off season. I can’t wait to go home tonight after a Reds’ win but more importantly a Cardinal loss with my fiance and our girls. We’d always been a family but this was so surreal. I was officially going to be a Dolan, I’ve only waited 10 years for this.

the one with the record // gbd
summary: in mourning, you reflect on the first day you met grayson
a/n: okay so this is a short i wrote for a fiction class i took in college a few years ago. out of the seven shorts i wrote that semester, this one was my favorite, so i revised it a little bit and turned it into a gray short. this could be considered as an AU? because clearly, i didn’t even know who the dolan twins were back in 2016. THAT BEING SAID; there are implications of depression/suicide in this, so if you’re easily triggered by either of those two topics, i advise to not read this one. buuuuuuut i still think it’s a semi-okay-but-maybe-pretty-good short. if you like it, let me know and i can post my other shorts from that class, too. enjoy (:
The pain ran through your body, burning each and every muscle slowly, one at a time.  Screaming out in pain, you turned down the stove and dropped the pan onto the linoleum tile of the outdated kitchen in her apartment.  You moved over to the sink, turned it on, and let the ice cold water run down the now purple line on your left hand mumbling to yourself about how you should have just ordered take out.  Turning off the water and wiping you hands on the pocket of you favorite tattered hoodie, you felt something crinkle underneath her palm.  You shoved your hand in the pocket and pulled out a folded up piece of paper.  Opening it up, you felt that familiar sharp pain in your chest as you saw the two people printed onto the paper.  Both faces held a giant smile and both sets of eyes seemed to sparkle.  Your arms were wrapped tightly around his waist and his hand rested on your long tanned legs.  Your eyes stung with tears as you remembered how the hazel eyed boy even stumbled into your life four years ago.
You were on the hunt that day for a record you so desperately wanted.  Since your parents had gifted you your first vinyl record six months ago, you were obsess with finding all of your favorite albums, even the ones you already owned on CDs.  You had looked through almost every record shop in town and still hadn’t had any luck.  The bell at the front of the store alerted any employees when she walked in the front door of the last shop within a 20-mile radius of your house.  It wasn’t a store you visited frequently so you weren’t entirely sure where to start looking or how the records were organized.  You also didn’t see a single employee throughout the entire store.  After a few minutes of aimlessly thumbing through the collection, someone emerged from a door at the back of the store that had a sign that read “Employees Only”.
“Can I help you with anything?”
“Actually, I’ve been searching all day and haven’t been able to find Taking Back Sunday’s Tell All Your Friends.  I already have the ten-year anniversary acoustic album that they put out a few months ago, but I can’t seem to find the original.  I’ve kind of just given up hope so now I’m just looking through everything.  I might find something remotely enjoyable for my collection in this unorganized mess,” you rambled to the employee without making any eye contact.
“I’m sorry you haven’t found what you’re looking for,” the employee sarcastically apologized.
You suddenly looked up and watch as he stalked toward the door from which he had emerge. Gee, thanks for the help, asshole.
Almost an hour later, you’d almost made it through the entire store still with no luck in finding what you wanted.  Your phone buzzed in your pocket alerting you of a text message from your best friend asking where you’ve been all day. It’s already eight o’clock? Shit, I was supposed to be at Y/BFF/N’s a half an hour ago.  When does this place close? You shifted your attenion to look around for that guy who seems to have disappeared since your initial exchange.
“You’ve got another half hour before I have to close up shop,” you heard from three rows behind you.  Turning around to face him, you noticed he hasn’t looked up from the bin he seemed to be reorganizing.  He was wearing a somewhat fitted bright red t-shirt that had, what you assumed, a band’s logo that you didn’t recognize.  You noticed his head bobbing along to the song filling the empty air throughout the store and could faintly hear his voice singing along.
“Did you happen to find that shit album you were looking for?” He asked without looking up from the bin.
“No, but it’s not a ‘shit album’,” you mocked back at him.
“Whatever you say,” he says with a sarcastic chuckle as he shakes his head.
“What’s your deal?” You questioned with an offended tone and he finally makes eye contact for the first time since you came in the store.  There was an annoyed look on his face and an uncomfortable amount of silence before he answered your question.
“I don’t have a ‘deal’, but I also can’t appreciate obnoxious people,” he finally answered.
“Obnoxious?” you raised your eyebrows, leaned back on one foot, and crossed your arms over your chest.
“You think you might find something in this ‘unorganized mess’ but yet here you are an hour later still thumbing through every. single. one,” he said without breaking the eye contact, “I just don’t get it,” with a side smile, he returned his attention to the bin he was sorting through.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t realize browsing through a collection was obnoxious,” you said and turned your back to him to continue looking through the albums.
“You’re so irritating,” he rolled his eyes as he’s suddenly standing next to you holding out the record you had been searching for all day.
“Are you fucking kidding me?” you nearly screamed in excitement.
“You must have missed it while you were looking for something remotely enjoyable,” he said over his shoulder as you followed him to the register.
“Would it kill you to be nice?” You questions as you flipped the record in your hands looking at each side of the cover over and over again.  He had stopped walking and turned around to face you just as you bumped into his chest. Jesus. You looked up at his face, he had to be like a foot and a half taller than you.
“Yep, and I’m too young to die,” he said with a cheeky smile and in that moment, butterflies filled your stomach and you could feel the heat creeping into your cheeks.
        “Grayson,” he introduced himself.
        “Y/N,” you shyly responded.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen you in here before,” Grayson said as he made his way behind the counter.
“Yeah, I don’t make it to this side of town very often,” you cleared your throat of the nervousness in your voice.
“You say that like it’s a bad thing.”
“Oh no, I don’t mean it like that, it’s just I never really knew this place existed.  Not that this place isn’t worth knowing about or anything, it’s just that my regular shop didn’t have what I was looking for so I thought I’d venture a bit farther and see what was out there.  But I mean, I think I’ll definitely have to come back,” you were just rambling now.  Why was this arrogant boy having such an affect on you?
“Relax, I get it.  We’re small, not many people know we’re here,” Grayson said with a light laugh and you sent him a shy smile.
As you took a better look at him, you realized that the boy on the opposite side of the counter was much more attractive than your initial judgment.  You were mesmerized by the beauty of his face which you hadn’t noticed when he walked away from you earlier.  You normally didn’t take a liking to facial hair, but the patchy scruff worked for him.  Really well.  He had a wing earring dangling from his left ear and dark brown hair with a subtle caramel highlight.  His jaw line could cut glass and you could tell he was very toned underneath his shirt.
“It’ll be $21.78,” Grayson said as he reached under the counter for a bag for the record.  You handed him your debit card and made the purchase.  As you reached to take the bag from him, your hands brushed just like the way you’d see in the movies and you swear you jumped a mile in your skin.  You turned to leave the store just and just as you reached the door, you heard Grayson call out to you.
“I hope you’ll come back again soon,” he said with a smile that you returned and left the store to make your way across the parking lot to your car.
As soon as you sat down in the driver’s seat, you dug your phone out of your purse and sent a quick text to Y/BFF/N, Sorry, I got distracted at a record shop, I’ll be over in a bit. But just as you were about to start your car, Grayson appeared at your window, scaring the life out of you.
“Holy shit, you scared me,” you said as you rolled down your driver’s side window.
“i’m sorry, I didn’t mean to,” he said as he nervously scratched the back of his head, a habit that he’d never been able to break, “but you left this laying on the counter and I figured you’d be missing it.”
“Oh my god, thank you,” you said as you took your debit card from Grayson’s hand.
“Not a problem.  Have a nice night.”
You watched Grayson in the side mirror of your car as he walked back into the store.  Just as he reached the entrance, he turned around and looked in the direction of your car.  You quickly diverted your attention from the side mirror and turned the key in the ignition to start your car.  Music filled the air at a volume that was louder and you anticipated causing you to jump as you reached for your seatbelt.  As you backed out of your parking spot, you noticed Grayson still standing outside the store from the corner of your eye as you drove away.
The photo had never left your possession since the day he died.  You shoved the photo back into your pocket and walked back to the bedroom you once shared with Grayson.  The pillows and sheet still lay the way he left them, strewn across the bed and floor.  You had left it just the way he had, desperately holding on to every memory of him.  The couch wasn’t the same as your bed, but you couldn’t bring yourself to sleep in it alone.  The only thing left of him was an old hoodie that he had worn all the time.  You remembered clutching it to your chest after you finally managed to enter the bedroom again as you sat on the floor and cried, barely able to breathe.  You sat there for hours that night, praying he would come walking back through the door like always, kidding you all over and tell you how much he loved you.
You had no idea how much pain Grayson had been in, no one did.  When you answered your phone to his twin brother frantically sobbing and tell you, “Grayson killed himself,” repeating the same sentence for what seemed like an hour, you couldn’t move.  Your knees gave, you fell to the floor, and you dropped the phone with Ethan still on the line.  You stared at the wall for what seemed like a life time as tears stung your cheeks.  Why hadn’t he told anyone?  Why hadn’t you noticed something different about him?  You could’ve helped him.  You could’ve saved his life.
You constantly thought about every moment you spent with him.  He would insist on cooking you dinner, saying takeout wasn’t healthy every day of the week.  He would wake you up in the morning with a hit cup of coffee and sometimes breakfast.  He would shower you in kisses and mumble about how much he loved you and didn’t want to lose you.
You also remember your first fight.  Grayson had come home drunk after a night out with his friends and you had tried to make dinner, but he insisted on throwing in rude comments about how you could’ve tried harder.  Minute by minute his words grew harsher and your eyes started to water.  You were soon in a full blown rage, screaming hurtful things in each other’s faces and throwing things.  That fight, much like the ones that followed, had ended with both of you apologizing profusely followed by spending the rest of the night making it up to each other.  Both of you desperate to outdo the other, hungry for each other.
You picked up the phone and dialed the number of the Chinese place down the street.
        “Yeah, Tom? It’s Y/N.”

Burger Boy
Grayson College Au A/N: this is my first imagine ever. let me know if you like it or if you want a part 2.
You were in your own world as you walked across campus with your earbuds in blasting music trying desperately to avoid awkward conversation with other members of your freshman class vainly trying to collect as many friends as they can to prove to their mother, and themselves, they really were ready to leave home. Considering it was now 1 pm and your day had started early at 7 with a shower to get ready for your 8 am class you wanted nothing more than to get to the dining hall and sink your teeth into those amazing smelling burgers.
The only thing standing in the way of you and lunch was some of the lacrosse team. You remembered the rowdy group of boys from the orientation week pep rally that glorified these well built boys. All the athletes you had contact with so far were also in your class. These particular group of meat heads were infamous. Especially the Dolan twins. Recruited straight out of high school, they were already legends and school had started just a week ago. Sure, they were extremely handsome but in all honesty they seemed kind of rude. They were always shouting about something and shoving their friends around. The loudest and the pushiest was the leader of the pack. None other than Grayson Dolan. He was the most attractive boy you’ve ever seen. Probably the most attractive boy to ever walk on earth but there was no way he’d ever give you a second thought other than maybe to ask you to move out of his way.
“Excuse me.” a deep voice from somewhere behind you said. As you blushed and moved out of the way you noticed it was in fact the god himself Grayson who had asked you to move out of his way so he could also get to the burgers. Impressed with his manners, you almost didn’t register the snickers from his teammates. Almost.  Mortified, hungry, tired and slightly annoyed you continued walking into the dining room finding your friend Natalie across the room who looked like she was equally as irked as you.
“Rough morning?” you asked as you set your food down.
“The worst. I don’t know why I decided to take bio, chem, and calculus all in one semester.” She grumbled as she angrily stabbed the salad in front of her.
“You know, you could just drop one of those classes. You don’t need to take every class the university offers in one semester. You will be here for four years.”
“Oh you’re one to talk Miss Double Major. How many different history classes are you taking this semester?”
“Three.” you said under your breath not wanting her to be right in this argument.
She rolled her eyes. “Exactly. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a chem lab to go suffer though. We’ll meet up after and go to the activities fair and check out the clubs?”
You lowly mumbled some form of consent as you pulled out your laptop ready to review the syllabus for your next class.
As you sunk into a seat towards the back of the classroom aimlessly scrolling through twitter you were relieved to see the european history class looked small and was void of any obnoxious lacrosse players. That was until a familiar voice asked if the seat next to yours was empty. Startled by the sudden noise in the previously quiet classroom your head shot up to spot the source of the question. Looking at you expectantly with his eyebrows raised was burger boy himself.
“Go ahead.” you said a little rudely hoping he would get the point that you wanted that seat to stay empty. Or at least empty of him.
“Thanks” Grayson replied as he sat down his things and eventually himself.
You watched him not because of his sheer good looks but you wondered how someone as big as him could possibly fit into the small desks the university placed into neat rows in every classroom. He felt your eyes on him and glanced your way winking when he noticed you were indeed staring at him. Thankfully the professor walked in at that moment so you didn’t need to explain the staring. The hour went by quickly. Most of the time was spent going over the course requirements and explaining attendance policies.
“5 minutes left. Normally I would let you go but I need to fill in this seating chart. I hope you like where you're sitting because these are your seats for the rest of the semester” the professor explained. You groaned internally when you remembered who was in the seat next to yours. How were you expected to do your best with this loud, gorgeous, obnoxious deity right there?
“Looks like we’re going to be buddies.” Grayson said after the professor stopped talking.
“I guess so” you replied carefully trying not to trip up your words and look like an even bigger fool.
“I’ll introduce myself properly then. I’m Grayson.” He said holding out a hand for you to shake.
“Y/N.” you answered shortly taking his big hand in your smaller one trying to ignore the blush you felt creeping up your neck.
“Nice to meet you.” He answered flashing a thousand watt smile of perfectly straight bright white teeth.
“Mhmm.” you mumbled.
“Class dismissed!” the professor declared
Relieved you started to pack up your things.
“I guess I’ll be seeing you around then.” Grayson said rubbing the back of his neck as he stood getting ready to leave.
“Yep.” you voiced bluntly hoping he would leave.
“Bye.”
“See ya.”
Weeks had passed and you barely noticed Grayson in your class. He was always quiet and never spoke up or said anything to you. That is until one day after class.
“Y/N! Wait up!” Gayson called after you.
“Yes?” you sad with much less attitude than the first time you spoke to him.
“I was wondering if you would help me. I am really falling behind in class. It goes so fast and I can’t keep up. Will you please tutor me?”
So that's why he was always so quiet. He was lost. “Sure.” you answered cooly.
“Awesome! Here’s my number. Text me your schedule so we can figure out the best time to meet up. I really appreciate this.” He explained smiling and writing a cluster of numbers on a corner of some paper he had in his pocket smiling as he anded it to you.
“No problem. Happy to help.” you answered surprising yourself with the kind words.
“You’re the best!” he exclaimed as he turned to run and meet one of his teammates down the hall.
You stormed into your dorm huffing as you threw your bag down onto the small bed.
“Class didn't go well? You love that one normally.” Natalie asked.
“No class was fine. What happened after is what was bad.” You half heartedly explained. You quickly pulled out your phone and sent Grayson your schedule. He answered quickly and you decided Thursday at 6 in the library was the best time for his tutoring. You were dreading it already.
At 5:55 you walked into the all too familiar library. You walked to the third floor where the study rooms were and picked the one you always use, texting Grayson where to find you when he got there. At 6:15 you were really considering leaving since he still hadn’t shown up yet but just as you were about to pack up he ran in, breathing heavily. “Sorry I’m so late!” he panted out “I was in the shower and lost track of time. I got here as fast as I could. I’m really sorry. Thank you so much for waiting.” he explained.
It amused you to see the usually cool and collected boy all out of sorts. “No problem. I don’t have anywhere else to be.” you answered. “Let’s get started.”
Time spent talking about ancient battles and kings and queens flew by and before you knew it it was almost 9 o’clock. “I think that’s enough for tonight.” You said with a yawn.
“Yeah,” Grayson agreed. “Thank you so much for your help. Same time next week?”
“Sure.” You answered.
“Jeez it's really dark outside. Let me walk you back to your dorm.”
“No. It’s fine. I wouldn’t want you to go out of the way.”
“Y/N, it will make me feel a whole lot better knowing you got back to your building safely.” Grayson insisted.
“Okay..” You were secretly relieved to have someone accompany you back to the building all the way on the other side of campus.
The walk was relatively quiet. The silence only being interrupted by the crickets now and again.
“Well, this is me.” you voice drifted off as you pointed to the tall prison like structure behind you.
“Thanks again. I really appreciate it” Grayson beamed at you.
“No problem.” As you turned to leave you felt something tug on your arm. Confused you turned around only to be met with that thousand watt smile again.
“You’re the best.” Gayson stated and then out of the blue leaned down and pressed a soft kiss onto your cheek.
“Good night” you uttered dumbfounded as he turned to walk away only looking back to wink at you.
When you got upstairs your roommate was in bed waiting to hear what you had to say about the study session with the jock.
“How was it?” she asked sitting up ready to hear all your complaints about the stupid athlete. “Incredible.” you breathed out still blushing from the kiss.
Maybe lacrosse players aren’t so bad after all.

Pretty pleaaaae make a part two to the Grayson college au? 🥺🥺
had two anons request this! part one
you had been ignoring grayson for days now. which was hard to do since you had your psych class together, but you made sure to always arrive right as class was starting and sit in the way back. you also made sure to not look towards him, knowing if you saw his face it would crush you.
grayson and you had a bond founded in friendship first, that soon turned into love. you deeply cared for him and couldn’t believe that he’d do something like this to you. But sadly, in the end, he broke your heart.
your roommate always played bodyguard at your room door, denying him access any time he came begging. you’d sit there on the couch listening as he begged, pleaded and even cried to see you. grayson wasn’t stupid, he knew that you could hear him.
grayson hated himself for hurting you. In actuality he never slept with amber, she was a old hook-up that he ran into at the party. he was stupid to pull her into a room and talk, thinking she’d understand he didn’t wanna hook up with her any more. but since the two of you had started dating months before, she seemed to not get the message that he was no longer interested.
“I have a girlfriend now.” grayson spoke, crossing his arms at his chest as he looked down towards her.
amber rolled her eyes and took another swing of her drink. “yeah right, grayson dolan has a girlfriend? that’s hard to believe.”
“i’m serious, maybe go talk to dylan or gavin if you wanna get laid, but it’s not gonna be with me. got it?”
and he’d left it at that. not thinking that anyone was paying attention to him. but little did he know your roommate was standing at the other side of the living room watching him leave with amber.
grayson meant it when he said that he loved you, he did. he’d never been with someone that made him feel like this, to make him so happy. and to not have you in his life was torture. to see you every day in class, not being able to hold you. talk to you. kiss you, he hated himself for hurting you bad.
but the worst was that he didn’t do anything. he was cutting off his old life, because he wanted only you. so one day before class grayson waited outside the classroom for you, determined to finally have a moment with you.
and just like you had been for the past few days, you’d show up to your psych class just a minute or so before the class started. grayson nervously watched you walked, your head turned down as you looked at your phone, giving him the perfect chance to grab your arm and pull you to the side into the doorway of another class.
“what the hell?!” you nearly shouted as you were pulled away from your current focus, next thing you knew, your back was pressed against a wall and you were looking up towards grayson. “what the fuck is your problem dolan?!”
“I’m sorry. I needed to talk to you,” he sighed, looking around to make sure no one was paying attention to them.
“I don’t wanna talk to you.” You went to walk away but he pulled you back.
“please....just let me fucking explain....i didn’t cheat on you.” You scoffed and rolled your eyes “I promise you, I didn’t. your roommate might’ve seen me with amber but we did not sleep together.”
“you really expect me to believe that?” you asked, face unamused. “i know what i saw.”
“and trust me, i know. it looked bad. but i would never do that to you. I went to cut things off with her cause she wouldn’t stop hitting me up, I pulled her aside to tell her that I had a girlfriend, that’s it.”
“what about the photo?”
“another one of her tactics to get me to give in? I don’t know how she got my shirt, I might’ve left it at her place once and she never gave it back.* grayson stepped closer to you. “baby, please...you mean too much to me for me to throw what we have going on away. I really do love you, and I hate that I’ve hurt you...but I can promise you that I didn’t cheat.”
you looked up towards him and could see that he was being sincere. and maybe what he was saying was the truth, but there was still of piece of you this didn’t believe him. a piece of you that wanted to protect your heart.
“I-i....I don’t know...I wanna believe you.”
“Then believe me!” Grayson moved to caress your cheeks. “Please...”
You heisted for a moment before grabbing his hands from your face. grayson frowned as you pulled away from him, seeing the hesitation clear in your eyes.
“I just....need more time.”
you gave him one final look before turning and leaving out of the doorway. leaving Grayson to pick up the pieces of his shattered heart.

frENEMIES, pt. 14 - Finale {Quarterback AU}
Tumblr media
Series Masterlist
Gnawing on the inside of her cheek, Y/N felt guilty. She not only felt guilty, but evil because just looking into Mike's eyes that looked at her current state and easily deducted she was already Grayson's in more ways than one, he looked like she just ripped his heart out and danced on his grave.
"Really? Grayson fucking Dolan?" Mike exclaimed, his voice losing all the toughness he had with Grayson, the flowers in his hands shaking and not with rage.
"Look, I don't care. I'm crazy about you. Okay? I can get passed this if you're having regrets." And she felt even worse when she realized she could do whatever and Mike would still want her. But she wanted Grayson, as scary and uncertain as he can be, she wanted Grayson fucking Dolan.
Glancing at Grayson who seemed to have genuinely worried about her next move, she realized she had to end this torture and fast.
"Mike, I'm really sorry but...it's Grayson. You knew that, hell, you read the book! And I hate how it all happened, but I love this idiot and if I don't try, I'll hate myself." Sniffing, she rubbed her nose before locking eyes with Grayson who had a wide smile on his face because she just uttered the L word and it wasn't in an over the top way he imagined it would be and it wasn't really dramatic, it was as easy as breathing for her and that made it memorable.
"Yeah." Mike sighed, nodding to himself as his gaze fell to the floor and he licked his lips, gathering strength. "Hope you don't live to regret it. I really do." And he turned around, leaving the flowers he brought her on the table next to her front door before walking away.
"Are you okay?" Grayson stepped in front of her, breaking her unrelenting gaze that focused on the bouquet of lilacs - her favorite.
"I am. You're here, aren't you?" She inhaled deeply before looking up at her quarterback, giving him a small smile until he picked up on her wish and leaned in, kissing her lips.
"Now, how about that breakfast?"
The pair had found a way to be happy, leaving New York together on Sunday. Y/N didn't want Grayson to breach his contract and get him in legal trouble, so she followed him to L.A. thinking she can be a writer anywhere. And she was right because her sequel came out three years later, painting their reunion bittersweet considering the heart that broke in the process and the many issues they faced.
They were married six months into their relationship, already planning a family...a family they wouldn't be able to start so easily.
It killed them both, making it hard for Grayson to watch her sinking further every month. They've tried the normal way, they tried ovulation stimulation, they underwent so many diagnostic procedures to find the reason why but they got nothing. The doctors simply couldn't understand why she wasn't pregnant, and she was convinced it was karma.
"I broke Mike's heart and this is my punishment." She truly believed it.
Y/N took it the hardest, aware that she was failing not only herself but Grayson who always rambled about having a big family. It’s why she underwent the most painful procedures to get to the bottom of the issue, but got nothing in return.
She pulled away, hating herself, blaming herself, breaking to pieces. Until she gave up. There was so much hope in her for the first year, even as they kept causing her pain to find the cause in order to remove it, but the hope was gone after that and... She simply gave up on having children and that's when the surprise came.
"Y/N, love, why are you here?" Grayson looked at her with pure confusion and some worry because Y/N never came to his practice, saying she wanted him to focus. But she was there, her eyes filled with tears as he approached her.
"I had to come. I had to see you." Picking around her bag, she managed to find the item in question, pushing it onto his palm with excitement.
"Are we? Am I gonna be a dad?" His voice is shaky, his mind coming to a stop as he stared at the plus. The plus that meant his wife would finally return to him, that sex would be love making again and not just a reproductive action, that she will stop crying in the bathroom at night thinking he can't hear her as he too cried because of the pain he saw was tearing her apart. It meant she would finally be happy in their marriage, that she won't waste away watching his brother's daughter grow with her heart breaking each year. It meant so much more than a baby and Grayson was beyond happy because their next step was artificial insemination and in vitro fertilization which would be hard on her with more hormones being pumped into her body, possible failures and miscarriages that would only weaken her body and soul more.
That plus was everything he could ever want and Grayson never felt quite as happy than the day she had come for him at practice, pulling him away to the doctor's where they confirmed her pregnancy. Until the babies came and the ovulation pills have apparently worked too well because Grayson instantly had more kids than Ethan - identical twin girls.
"I didn't think this book would be such a success, but I guess people love enemies to lovers trope, huh?" She laid back, watching Grayson carry their girls, each nested in one arm, sleeping peacefully after their cramps eased up.
"I'd say it's the slow burn, maybe even the struggles to convince." He whispers and she has to hold back a chuckle to not wake the babies. The cramps they've been struggling with had both of them on edge, not sleeping for weeks.
"Or the fact everyone knows it's you, even if I never named you." She shrugs, realizing he's ready to put them down, watching with a grimace because she had a nagging feeling both girls would wake up the moment they don't feel their dad's warmth.
"I'm getting better at this." Proud, Grayson snuck back to the bed, way too happy about the silence that followed as he finally put his head down and relaxed.
"You're a good dad, but I'll bet you they will be up in less than ten minutes." Y/N smirked, aware that it took them hours to stop crying which meant their feeding time was pretty much now.
And just as he said deal, the babies started screaming and he wanted to cry too.
"You don't get to cry right now, quarterback! They're living off my boobs, not yours."
But still, they were happy, blissful even as they laid there tired, the babies eating while Y/N tried to stay awake and Grayson did the same just in case she fell asleep. He was definitely a hands on dad, always helping out even if he did gag every diaper change or had offered to ‘milk’ her on the first night and she cried because she thought he called her a cow - a big misunderstanding caused by his overwhelming need to help her because one baby was hard, two felt impossible.
"I love you and I'm so grateful for you and everything you do. For giving me these little girls that drive me crazy already and they're barely a month old, but also for loving me at my worst." Kissing her forehead, Grayson watched her tenderly, aware that his life had truly started when she came into his life and when she started loving him. Being dubbed worthy of love by a woman like her meant the world to him.
"Imagine someone telling us we'd be here back in college? I'd have thought they need a psychiatrist. But I'm happy. I really am. Even when I hated you during the difficulty of pregnancy and labor."
"You hated me?" Grayson's eyes widen and she smiles, aware if she laughed both babies would get scared and wail and do you know how hard it is to settle two wailing babies and convince them to eat? It’s hell she didn’t think worthy of risk for a single laugh.
"You try carrying two humans and then pushing them out of a very small hole. The point is, I love you too, quarterback. I do."
Finding comfort in one another, they braved that night and many more to come, always in love with each other to the point of embarrassing their kids, two more that came after, but isn't that what we all want? Someone that is your best friend, partner in crime and lover until the day we die? Y/N found that in her quarterback, realizing people are more than what they show on the surface and the line between love and hate is a fickle one.

Bloodstream (Vampire AU)
Tumblr media
Summary: Small towns usually hide big, dangerous secrets. Dolan twins thought it would be a perfect place to lay low...until they meet her.
Warnings: mentions of death, blood, violence, angst and fluff
Word count: ~ 3000
Vampires are bloodthirsty creatures, past redemption, their humanity long gone. Y/N knew that even in the moment she stayed with Ethan and Grayson while everyone else ran. She stayed, her eyes hyper focused on the blood dripping from their chins, their hands drenched with no trace of human skin - all red. She didn't know what happened, why they lost control, but she believed they wouldn't hurt her. Perhaps it's naive, wishful thinking or even her overconfidence in skills she was granted after they first arrived in town, but she stayed put, actually provoking them.
"Why did you do that?" Trying to keep her voice even, calm, Y/N almost forgot they could hear her frantic heartbeat, smell the indescribable mix of emotions oozing off her skin, undiscovered by human senses.
"You know why." Grayson rolls his eyes, wiping his mouth and chin against the sleeve of his once white hoodie, looking at Ethan for justification.
Regardless of his silent plea, Ethan simply shakes his head, turning around to avoid her questioning glare, almost relieved with her presence. A part of him craved for her in every possible way - from a primal human way to a primal vampire way and it's an overwhelming tension around his dead heart that makes him take a step back.
"No, Grayson! I don't fucking know why and I want to understand, I do! But how can I when all I seem to get is dead bodies dropped at my feet as if you're a damn cat showing off a kill!" Voice echoing around the now empty woods, Y/N realized she has to tone down her anger.
She wanted them to suffer for what they did but she didn't want them to die. If anyone found out a vampire slayer is in love with two vampires who kill mercilessly, she'd likely lose her life along with them.
Before she could blink, she found herself gasping for air, not because of the sudden change in her position or the tree she found her back pressed against, not even because of the way Grayson's bloody hand held onto her neck, but because of the intimacy of the way his lips lingered right above her carotid.
Applying a little bit of pressure only to release it had made her arteries run wild with turbulent blood-flow, the kind that played on Grayson's control issues, the kind that made him want to do something he would forever regret - if he could have just a taste and stop, to let her blood warm his heart and make it beat again even if its for a few hours, he might do it, but he couldn't risk her dying. Not now. Not ever.
"I did it for you. To protect you." Drawing the words out slowly, carefully, Grayson leans back and away from her neck, letting her breathe again. He could sense she wasn't scared, not even when he held her at inch length of death, she trusted him and that scared him. He has never been as scared in all his miserable days as he's been scared since the day she walked into his life. For once, Grayson Dolan had something to lose and he wasn't about to let it happen.
"I can't tell you how many people I killed since I came to this town, but I know why they're dead." Swallowing thickly, she watched his lips press together briefly, just for a moment - as if he's contemplating his next words and the impact they might have.
"They're dead so you could live. And I don't feel sorry. Not even a little bit. Maybe that makes me the monster you think I am but I can't regret saving your life." Leaning his forehead on hers, Grayson almost forgot about Ethan who was so clearly growing anxious, frustrated and most of all - jealous. Sadly, to Grayson's greatest dismay, he wasn't the only Dolan in love with a human - a slayer - his Y/N.
She didn't utter a word; she didn't have to. In a blink of an eye, Ethan and Grayson, as well as the bodies of the people she once considered her townsfolk are gone. Shaking, leaning back on the tree, Y/N wondered why she ever got involved with the Dolan twins - why couldn't she leave this particular mystery alone?
To understand that, we'd have to rewind this to the day she first met them, a few months earlier.
There are three things you need to know before you read this:
1. Vampires are real,
2. Their thirst for blood is unmatched by anything but the love for their mate,
3. Humanity is fragile and to love a vampire is to court death.
The sun-rays lit up her pale skin, her favorite season finally chasing away the winter snow she hated more than anything. She wasn't particularly happy about being forced to walk to campus so early in the morning, a cup of tea warming her frosty fingers, reminding her winter's still got a hold of her little town, the kind of town you'd see on postcards. It's easy to feel at home in towns like these, the kind where nothing bad ever happens except for a few college students running wild during rush week.
Smiling, she nods at the car letting her pass the road, recognizing one of her old high school teachers, the one that used to favor her for her "exceptional kindness and talent". She always felt like she disappointed him, her pristine grades and record were supposed to take her far from that town and for a while she was willing to do anything to get out of there, but life always has different plans for us, doesn't it?
Regardless, Y/N wasn't bitter nor did she resent the circumstances forcing her to stay behind when all her friends left. She still found happiness in small things - watching the sunrise that reminded her there was a fresh start every day if we're willing to take it, in the beautiful scenery - nature always calmed her nerves and it reminded her of her late father who always took her camping and taught her basic survival skills, and then there was the very college she goes to - the place her parents met for the first time, giving her a feeling of closeness to the ones she loved the most but had to say goodbye to.
Nostalgic, half lost in her thought, Y/N didn't pay attention to her surroundings, a daydreamer as her friends uses to call her. Perhaps that's something she would have changed, that day and that moment she was too lost in her own head to see she was seconds away from colliding with a force of nature - Grayson Dolan.
She didn't register the moment of impact, rather the moment a strong pair of hands gripped her waist and left arm, holding her in place with a sturdiness she didn't possess on the best of days. She heard her books fall on the pavement, one of them breaking at the seams and she didn't bother looking up, rather down at her precious books.
Quickly, she bent down to collect her books and assess the damage on her favorite book, the man doing the same, managing to take the books before her, forcing her to look into his eyes without escaping it.
Grayson could see wind-stirred waves in her eyes and he knew if one were brave enough to enter their depths, the world would blur and he'd fall so deep in love that he'd choose to stay there – right in the midst of her storm, no matter what. Of that, he was completely sure.
"The Vampire Academy? Really?" His almost mocking tone made her snarl, narrow her eyes and force the books out of his hands. If there is anything she hates, it's someone judging a book by its covers and she really hated when people deemed her a vampire fanatic because of her favorite series. The Vampire Academy is so much more than a story about vampires and that's a hill she was willing to die on.
"You bumped into me and the first thing you want to do is mock my choice in literature?” Standing up, she raised her chin defiantly high, perhaps because he's a lot taller than she is or because she simply hated being perceived as weak and naive, but she was ready to hand his ass to him and in the most merciless manner possible. “Seriously?" She humphed, swallowing thickly as she held his gaze captive.
"You're right." Raising his hands in mock surrender, he chuckled at her attitude. Licking his lips, he raised an eyebrow before speaking again. "I'm Grayson Dolan and I'm very sorry about your book." Putting an emphasis on very, Grayson smiles too, hoping his usually disarming smirk would make her swoon like all the other girls do.
Shrugging, she pulled the books closer to her chest, her gaze falling to her feet inadvertently, wishing she could rip him a new one but he's apologetic. After all, she felt guilty about the small incident anyway and while he may be a closeted asshole, she wasn't about to chew him out for being decent enough to apologize. Every asshole needs someone to show them they are capable of change, right? Well, she certainly thought so.
"Alright." She shrugs again, a nervous tick Grayson realizes but reserves that observation to himself, deciding it would be best not to antagonize her much more though he wants to. Y/N certainly peaks his interest and it's not just about the fact he can sense her blood type just by the smell of a recent scratch on her forearm, but the fact that she's awkwardly, innocently feisty but also beautiful in the most effortless way possible, the kind where she's absolutely blind to the little things others notice and adore about her.
"Not gonna tell me your name?" Grayson steps in her way, stopping her from leaving him high and dry, effectively making her heart skip a beat loud enough that his brother heard it from the football stadium. Those earthly hues he enchanted everyone with, rimmed with thick, long, dark lashes that brushed his cheeks every time he closed his eyes, seemed to bore into her every time she looked into them and nearly lost herself. Suffering, loneliness, longing, desire; his eyes held all those deep seated emotions and for a moment she had to physically restrain herself from placing her palm on his cheek and softly asking him who hurt him so deeply.
Shaking her head, she pushes those thoughts down and reminds herself she’s probably seeing this comely man through the eyes of her wild imagination, her reality check lost somewhere on the ground ever since he bumped into her. "No. You haven't earned that yet." Smiling, she winks at him cheekily, enough to cause him to change his initial opinion - there is nothing innocent about her and he's more than willing to find out what hides in every dark corner and crease of her complicated mind.
He inhaled her scent as she passed him by, sauntering toward the entrance, purposefully too. She knew his eyes never left her form, she could sense his gaze taking her in, and usually she'd feel overexposed, making her self-conscious of every step she makes but she wanted to leave a lasting impression on him. For some unfathomable reason, Y/N found herself glancing over her shoulder at the grinning man, rushing inside faster to hide just how fast her heart is beating and how blushy his attention made her.
Shaking her head, she wondered why him. She wondered why would he be the first man to make her feel like that after years of never even looking at any man. One thing was certain - Y/N wanted to know every single part of Grayson Dolan's heart and soul.
He's not perfect as he seems, but she wants to know him, all his virtues and flaws and she wants to love and hate him and argue and cuddle and go on adventures and stay at home being lazy. She wants to hype him up and have him be her cheerleader too. It doesn't even have to be romantic in any sense even though she couldn't deny the spark she felt just by the way he looked at her. He would be a part of her life and she would make sure of it.
**
Rumors fly in small towns, there is nothing surprising about it. That's how Y/N had found out more than a few things about Grayson Dolan and apparently, he has a twin brother. When two guys manage to switch universities in their senior year and at the beginning of the summer semester, it’s bound to create a buzz.
From what she remembers, Grayson Dolan is very tall, muscular and from her vantage point, all she could say for certain is how sharp his jawline is. Of course, she managed to memorize his smirk and gaze, both intimidatingly intimate, the kind that grips your soul and haunts your dreams. He oozes charming confidence but also arrogance she'd usually frown upon. All in all, in few minutes she knew him, Grayson Dolan had left an impression worthy of an afterthought, the kind that turns into a daydream where your mind makes up scenarios that are highly unlikely to happen.
As it will turn out, she wasn't nearly as imaginative as she thought.
Taking her seat, relieved it's the last class for the day, Y/N glanced at the door, her eyes catching a striking man as he enters the room, his presence alone enough to make her question reality, pinching herself only to groan under her breath. In that very moment, his eyes met hers as if he could hear the silent pained 'ouch' she mumbled under her breath.
Averting her gaze, she sat up a little straighter, clearing her voice nervously before looking into her bag for a pen, anything to avoid eye contact with a guy she could easily tell was the fated twin of the man who was still taking over her waking thoughts and she was certain he'd be there when she closes her eyes too.
"Need a pen?" The low, dark voice makes her turn sideways, noticing the guy had taken the seat next to her without hesitation, his brown eyes focused on her with interest she truly wanted to squash. If anything, Y/N didn't want a guy too close to her, especially with what her father told her: "You're going to change the world one day. It's in your blood - our family blood."
Anyone would think it's just delirious talks at the end of a man's life, but there was something in his eyes when he told her, something she couldn't disregard.
"I got one." She shrugged, looking back at her bag, trying to remain calm despite feeling his lingering gaze on her.
Heat washed over her, the kind that comes when you're both embarrassed, nervous and extremely uncomfortable. The main reason for it all wasn't just Ethan but the fact that her pen was missing...and her back up pen too.
Ethan knew that too. She had no idea he had swiped them during lunch, aware he'd need a conversation starter with the girl his brother had decided was worthy of his attention after centuries of ignoring romance and love in any form. Ethan had expected a little more if he were completely honest, especially since Grayson spoke about her alluring blood and enticing personality, but he figured there's more beneath the surface.
Unlike his brother, Ethan loved making women giddy, enjoying every bit of attention his immortality gifted him with and what most humans never understood, it's that vampires have more than the gift of immortality kept by human blood.
Vampires have strength unimaginably greater than any human as well as speed no human eye could follow. Their skin isn't always cold, as long as they drink hot beverages or human blood, even their hearts might beat again. The sun won't hurt them, crosses and holy water and garlic wouldn't cause any damage either, but fire might - as well as their hearts pierced with a wooden stake or their head being chopped off? That’s a sure way to rid oneself of a vampire.
"Just take it." Ethan pushed one across the table, winking her way when she dares to look his way once more, enjoying the pink tinted cheeks barely covered with her hair way too much not to crack a smile - a smile that could melt a hundred hearts.
"Alright." Taking the pen, she clicks it eagerly, pressing her lips together to hold back a smile from him. "Thanks." And that's when the longest hour of her life began, completely unaware she became prey and not just in the eyes of the handsome twins that recently joined the campus, but of many more who'd come looking for her - a direct blood relative of Buffy Summers - the last vampire slayer and her power had finally awakened.
Completely unaware of her destiny, Y/N went about her day, falling asleep just a few minutes before midnight strikes, a certain vampire sitting nearby, listening to her breathing evening out and her heartbeat slowing down.
"Are you really going to stalk her now?" Ethan clicks his tongue, watching Grayson roll his eyes. "Don't be a cliche, brother. Either kill her and get it over with or leave her alone. It's not that hard."
Cracking his knuckles, Grayson narrows his eyes, a few dark, blood filled veins becoming increasingly prominent on his face and his once brown eyes are now clouded with darkness.
"Someone is here." Grayson whispers and Ethan chuckles.
"Yeah. Us."
"Are you really that dense? There is something creeping on that girl and it's not just us. And it smells foul." Scrunching his nose, Grayson whips his head around to her window, noticing a speedy shadow moving up the wall, and before he knows it, Grayson's instincts take over.
It only took a moment, but the next thing he knows, Grayson’s primal nature had acted for him and he was grateful. He couldn’t exactly sit by her bed and protect her all night – he couldn’t even enter her home without an invitation, but Grayson could at least protect her home.
Why?
Even he wasn’t sure on the actual reason.
"What the fuck did you do?" All he hears is her heartbeat, even as Ethan whisper shouts in his ear. All he can feel is her scent invading his senses once more, the foul stench of the creature he just beheaded no longer standing in the way.
"What I had to." Grayson spat on the body of the creature he killed without a second thought and he couldn't help but smile. As he did, the temperature fell a little. Even in the dim light of the streetlight Ethan saw his bared teeth.
"This is what will happen to anyone who dares touch her."
