#so i woke up really early #and that was okay cos inwatched avs while i loaded the dishwasher and fed henry (cat not popstar) and washed my face and logged into work #four day weekends are so nice but my bosses emails ugh #i managed to have three meetings #one of which i had to contribute a lot to #and get a ministerial response completed while watching that utterly borked nucks match #and now i am having morning tea and feeling good #ive decided its not too late to plant sweet peas #i couldn't do it cos of surgery but look its still Autumn.. #and idk i just feel gd about this week #i am enjoying organising the house in a low pressure way and writing my fic and i see neil on wed #and it is mamas birthday on Saturday so on Friday my sisters and i will have dinner at a nice place by the harbour #near where she wants her ashes scattered under the bridge where you walk round the corner and see soh #and we'll talk about things she would have hated and things she would have loved since she died #and I'll cry into my sydney rock oysters and miss her #but im missing her as i stand in the kitchen typing this waiting for the kettle to boil so you know #silv rambles #sorry i just do this on whichever blog im using the most #block the silv rambles tag if its super annoying

#played THREE rounds of foosball (first to nine points each) with the eight year old and then he wanted to play animals upon animals which is #a very delightful animal stacking die rolling game and i could've played a lot more of that only then the ten year old came along and wante #to start a game of monopoly and i did some theatrics about how LONG and BORING monopoly was and i'd rather play the spinning fish game with #the four year old but then they wheedled me a bit and i said fine but i would be setting a timer for thirty minutes on my phone and then i #would be fishing but then it was thirty minutes and i said fine ten more minutes because i'd just bought boardwalk and was flush with hope #but then had some spectacularly bad rolls and had to start mortgaging everything and somewhere in all that i forgot to stick to the timer #and then i was mortgaged to the hilt and hungry (two aunts got stuck on the bridge coming and dinner was pushed back and back) until finall #i landed on a property with a hotel and then another with FOUR houses on it and that was it for my career as a landlord #after dinner i sat down at the keyboard and banged out some tunes with the four year old (her full force with her palms and me rattling up #and down the top octave with two pointer fingers which i think will be quite bruised tomorrow) and it turned into freeze when she abruptly #switches the keyboard off and runs a lap around the grand piano and continue banging when she gets back on the bench and then after that sh #started chasing me around the big living room sectional and there was a lot of slipping skidding around corners in my socks which was FUN A #HECK and then i let her roll me around on the nice thick rug and then she chased me some more around everyone eating cake (mango mousse and #a green tea three layer with red bean cream SO GOOD) and then my mom sighed a lot about how stinky i was in the car #there aren't even that many children!! two of them had just turned thirteen! teenagers!! but there was just so much children for so few #children (six of em) sheesh!! okay yeah definitely time to shower now sor #a happy thing #sor.txt

It was one of my nights to make dinner - and I hadn't done a good job planning ahead. Whipped out a jar of arrabiata sauce I had and i knew i had some leftover hamburger from earlier in the week.... Then looked around for pasta and did not find good pasta candidates for the most part... Gnocchi and Tortellini - that I knew other people might want to tap on their dinner nights... And then I remember boxes of lasagna noodles that had been sitting there for months - and they weren't no boil noodles. (lets be real - the person who bought those hates cooking and there's no way on god's green earth do i see her making any kind of lasagna from scratch - let alone boiling the noodles first ok? ) So I was like - YEP , you're mine, you orphan lasagna noodles!

Broke the noodles ehhhh into relatively similar size pieces and then for good measure tossed cream cheese into the sauce - do not come for me. authentic? hell no. creamy and a nice balance to the extra red pepper i added to make the sauce spicier? yes. Also since I had sauteed onions and a whole buncha minced garlic before cooking the meat and sauce - it was niiiice. at least niiiiice for very little forethought.

(and i had made paul's pumpkin bars - like pumpkin cake with cream cheese frosting for dessert - that cake is life ok. and i hadn't had it since my mom passed. that one was for you out there mom- and whoever the heck paul was - mom got the recipe from someone at work or the newspaper back in the day)

ANYWAY - when we sat down to dinner, someone looked at the bowl of pasta and sauce and asked, " So.... What is this exactly?

My response to this semi-saltily delivered query was," FOOD."

After letting the resulting silence sit for a nice little moment or three I then added, "But if you feel you need a fancy name, consider it as 'Deconstructed Lasagna served in a Creamy Tomato and Beef Ragout to be followed by Pumpkin Bars ala Paul."

#eliot posts #i love Warm Beveridge #and i have a big stash of tasty flavoured teas and herbal teas/tisanes #but also sometimes just a big rich mug of black tea is the best #i tend to like my black tea quite bittersweet #like super duper strong and a bit oversteeped (and no milk. milk makes it bland and sad) #but with a good amount of sugar #like 3 or 4 cubes of it #in a big ole 16 ounce mug not a lil teacup mind you. i think that much in a teacup would kill me dead. but still quite sweet. #i liked it even sweeter than that as a child (but just as strong and bitter) #prolly should've suspected i had adhd when sometimes mugs of fully caffeinated black tea helped me sleep #i had like. chronic sore throats/tonsilitis for a few years as a child #and my mother's go-to home remedy for sore throats was tea with honey and some toast #which i found to be absolutely delicious #(i liked to sometimes dip my toast in my tea tho and looking back ew i do not think i would like doing that now) #sonetimes i'd complain abt my throat even when it wasn't bothering me much bc i wanted The Tasty Snack at night #tho when i was like halfway through elementary school she showed me how to make it myself so i would quit asking her #and on one hand it was nice that i could have it without having to ask #and making it gave me an excuse to go downstairs after my bed time instead of being trapped in my room w my insomnia #but also i remember missing the feeling of being taken care of (which. being taken care of was a rare commodity in that house)

the first book was such a well drawn portrayal of grief & the struggle to feel like a real person & the way empires consume cultures & it avoided consequentialism while still exploring the impact of a single action and it was SO gripping & interesting and then the second book was mostly. Problems Activists Have. And that was by far the best most well-observed bit of the book bc the character development was thin on the ground for all of the new characters it introduced and with a couple of exceptions the emotional moments were kind of clunky in a way they weren't in the first book. I was still invested the whole time though, and I'm hoping the next one manages to tie the politics and the arcs of the characters together in a more satisfying way

#anc*llary sw*rd i could fix you #ppl complaining about the tea house chapters. that was actually the best part #i was left going. #yes that is the way governments keep poor citizens under their control and those are the problems that happen when anyone tries to fix it #well and you know me i love a good party scene where people are subtly horrible to each other otherwise h*n wouldn't be my favorite book #br*q's anger at the conditions of ppl she was obviously connecting to lt a*n was a good throughline to the themes of the prev book #but all the stuff with tis*rwat just didn't hit. we were already exploring all that with br*q and mi*naai! #character with an interesting concept but truly lackluster execution imo #basically. it's nice to generally agree with a book politically but then if you get to the end and all you can say is that you agreed #hmm. idk. so much potential!! i just hope we explore all this in the next book #either way i am here for my love br*q. but i'm begging the side characters to be more interesting

i went to a DND session at my friend's house today it was so fun!!

#we all brought snacksss and all threee of us got lost on the way to our host's house lol #anfff we played. dnd :) #our fucking sessions are so chaotic because the DM will say one thing and we spend 10 minutes going off on random unrelated tangents #so we never get anything done #also our DM is so awesome i love her this is her first time ever dming and she used that dragon island thing but she diverged from the #story really quickly and the lore!!!! holy shit dude the things she puts us in is so cool #she's put so much thought into the session i love her so much she's so cool #anddd we played for like four hours and we ate biscuits and candy and drank 7up and tea #and my other friend talked about rugby to me which tbh is kind of charming when you get used to it #he is overbearing but you get used to it he's cool also ill never tell him but i actually really like his character even tho i tease him ab #and my other other friend talked about how she got all her jewellery i loveee her style she is so awesome #andd she let me sit on the floor behind her counter when i got tired and made us tea and im a little bit in love with her #and her sister watched the session and she was cool!! i like her she was really nice and i hope i get to see her more soon cuzi like her #mmmm mthis session was so fun. like gamewise aswell we're getting into the good shit it was so cool #the metaphors. grips you #yayyayayay :)))) #iii love my friends so much #ALAO my friend drew a silly cat on my hand!!! she is so expert at drawing silly cats. she's so good at it #she is just silly!!! i love her!!!! #peests
