every couple of months i rediscover exactly how much i love tea and go through a period of almost a week wherein i drink multiple mugs a day of it, only to forget again after that
#eliot posts#i love Warm Beveridge#and i have a big stash of tasty flavoured teas and herbal teas/tisanes#but also sometimes just a big rich mug of black tea is the best#i tend to like my black tea quite bittersweet#like super duper strong and a bit oversteeped (and no milk. milk makes it bland and sad)#but with a good amount of sugar#like 3 or 4 cubes of it#in a big ole 16 ounce mug not a lil teacup mind you. i think that much in a teacup would kill me dead. but still quite sweet.#i liked it even sweeter than that as a child (but just as strong and bitter)#prolly should've suspected i had adhd when sometimes mugs of fully caffeinated black tea helped me sleep#i had like. chronic sore throats/tonsilitis for a few years as a child#and my mother's go-to home remedy for sore throats was tea with honey and some toast#which i found to be absolutely delicious#(i liked to sometimes dip my toast in my tea tho and looking back ew i do not think i would like doing that now)#sonetimes i'd complain abt my throat even when it wasn't bothering me much bc i wanted The Tasty Snack at night#tho when i was like halfway through elementary school she showed me how to make it myself so i would quit asking her#and on one hand it was nice that i could have it without having to ask#and making it gave me an excuse to go downstairs after my bed time instead of being trapped in my room w my insomnia#but also i remember missing the feeling of being taken care of (which. being taken care of was a rare commodity in that house)

Went to the doctor just for a check up and he basically just told me "your body just processes sugar very well! :) :) :) It's a good thing! :) :) :) It can't possibly be the source of your symptoms even though eating fixes it :) :) :)" But there was also a moment when talking about my iron deficiency that is possibly one of the funniest things a doctor has ever said to me, up with the cardiologist who said "you're a medical mystery": He was going over my blood test results, and said "Your iron levels haven't gone up at all, they are still extremely low, but you're not anemic anymore" And I was like how am I not anemic anymore??? And he said "Your hemoglobin levels have gone up...somehow..." while frowning at the blood test results on his computer. It was very "somehow, palpatine has returned" lol

A Dash of Nutmeg
I'm in the middle of preparing my next meta, and while mulling over a problem a had a wtf! moment. More like a "lead balloon" moment, really, where you realize you're looking at one of those glaring anachronisms that the Good Omens AU has plenty of but never makes a big deal of.
Nutmeg. And lemongrass. You know, they get mentioned together in this little passage in the book:
"Come off it. Your lot get ineffable mercy," said Crowley sourly. "Yes? Did you ever visit Gomorrah?" "Sure," said the demon. "There was this great little tavern where you could get these terrific fermented date-palm cocktails with nutmeg and crushed lemongrass-" "I meant afterwards." "Oh."
Nutmeg then turns up in the S2 as part of Aziraphale's magic sleight of hand performance.
Tumblr media
The reason it jumped out to me is that nutmeg has played a significant role in the history of the world - it was the center of deal between two countries that you could say became a "sliding door" moment about 500 years ago. And because of that, I knew its origin put it at unlikely odds of being in the right place at the right time in the GO story (but when has that ever stopped anything getting in the way of the story!)
Although we don't know if Sodom and Gomorrah were actually real cities, we know they are supposed to predate the Roman Empire, and that is what matters here. And the matter I'm trying to get to is that the natural origins of nutmeg are from small cluster of islands in the Indonesian archipelago that were a closely guarded secret for centuries. The first nutmeg reached Rome in the first century AD, long after Sodom and Gomorrah would have been razed to oblivion by Sandalphon's smiting efforts. And there was never very much of it. It was always in short supply, and considered precious.
Oh, and its a well known hallucinogenic, if you consume too much of it. Even just a generous amount sprinkled on your Christmas pud can give you a lovely relaxed, floaty feeling...mmmm, or was Aunty Jill a bit heavy-handed with the brandy, I'm not sure...
Lemongrass is also of south-east Asian origin. It likes a hot, damp environment to grow well. I'm not sure that's the kind of place Sodom or Gomorrah was!
So for Crowley to describe a cocktail, of all things, with two exotic, rare ingredients from thousands of miles away in a "time" when the trade routes hadn't quite spread that far...
ugh. My head hurts just thinking about this one.
Did I mention I found a thing that many cultures believed nutmeg could protect you against evil? Right, right...whatever. Go for it, Crowley. You've obviously been into the mind-altering chemicals for millennia anyway.

the heirarchy of good habits for feeding yourself when you have brainfuck doesnt need to be all at once at all and in fact is probably best not to do it that way
start by making sure youre getting enough calories at regular intervals to fuel your body
then move forward to making sure youre getting enough fruit n vegetables in whatever form you can
then you can start to worry about nitty gritty things like salt intake or cutting out some sugars or saturated fats or more protein or whatever you need to do for your health
its WAY more important to be getting all the right stuff first than be cutting things out with nowhere to go

Hey, don't cry. Mix 40-ish grams softened butter with 20-ish grams of powdered sugar until cohesive. Add 40-ish grams of flour and mix until a very soft dough forms. Shape into a log inside of some parchment paper and place in the freezer for about 30 minutes. Heat the oven to 170°C. Cut the log into 1/2 cm-ish thick pieces and place on a parchment lined baking sheet. Put in oven for 15–20 minutes. They shouldn't brown too much. Take out, let cool, eat your shortbread.

On the note of what's actually good for hydration - if you don't like the taste of water, there are other options than sweet drinks
Some of the options could include unsweetened teas (black, green, herbal, fruit), beer (in moderation, the less alcohol content the better), yoghurt-based drinks like Ayran, buttermilk or kefir (and even milk)
If none of that works, you can always check if it's the brand or carbonation of water that doesn't fit your tastes - or even vessel you drink it from. Your food and drinks will taste different based on if you're drinking them from a plastic bottle, a jug, a thin glass or a mug.

i went insane rambling on the tags of this post about princess bubblegum and ran out of space so i copy pasted it here so i could finish writing. under read more bc idk
tbf i dont think i would say pb is like... Good. well actually. wait. im gonna go on a rant.
i think it depends on how we classify ''good''. what makes someone a good person? what makes someone evil? thoughts or actions‚ past or present‚ etc. i honestly dont think i can firmly say bubblegum is either good or evil. shes one of the few truly morally grey characters ive seen. like
no matter what you think makes someone good or bad she has most certainly been bad in every single way. and also good in every single way. hm.
. she is not a naturally empathetic person. thats not to say she doesnt care about people‚ she does‚ and sometimes those feelings influence her actions a Lot even if she doesnt realize it. but also‚ even when it comes to those she cares about‚ emotional empathy is a struggle. shes the definition of thoughts over feelings 100% scientific brain facts and logic. she is Very egoistical‚ she likes being in control and having power over people (not bc shes power hungry per se but bc thats the best way to keep control over others. shes Logical. and if she has control than nothing can go wrong)‚ she likes not being questioned and she did and still does often disregard other peoples rights and privacy to get what she wants and to be on top/have control over them. she does care‚ about a bunch of different things in a bunch of different ways‚ but caring about someone/multiple ppl and naturally feeling empathy are different things. she needs to make an effort to take other peoples feelings into consideration‚ and while not feeling empathy and etc obviously has absolutely NOTHING to do with morality‚ the thing about pb is that most of the time she does not make that effort‚ and actively does things that hurt other people for her own gain‚ or for Science™ or the Kingdom™. she doesn't care ab how other people feel or their privacy and she does like government crimes and mass murders and a surveillance state about it. she cares deeply about her people for example‚ but not really them as individuals‚ shown when she likes fucking kills them or put cameras on their bodies etc. shes more worried about them surviving than their autonomy. she cares about finn‚ but specially at the beginning she treats him more as an asset than anything‚ and does shit like implant a gps on him without him knowing. and while shes Always liked control and been all logical alpha brain and shit‚ and struggled with sympathy‚ she used to care a lot lot more. or better, she used to Allow herself to care and to love and to feel‚ she build herself a family because she felt lonely and she loved marceline deeply. but like the post and the show said she kept being hurt and she needed to protect an entire kingdom alone‚ which meant repressing all that to fucking hell and back. so she slowly just build up and let her ''no sympathy no feelings only Facts And Science'' side rule until she forgot anything else
and thats how we meet bubblegum in the show: manipulative and head of a dictatorship and with no one she truly cared about close to her, doing awful awful things and not taking time to remember about others. what are morals. being just so very fucked up
like
your thoughts and brain and whatever do not make you evil. your actions do. but her actions are terrible and she does the things she does bc sympathy and caring do not come naturally for her, but being waaay to super mega smart and wanting control Do and she has hardened and isolated herself enough that she has no one to like, pull her out of that. keep her in check. remind her to make an effort to consider other people.
in the show, we see her begin to try and be good again. by letting other people in, by letting herself feel, letting herself be a Person outside of being a Princess and a Ruler and a Scientist, she begins to make that effort again. and bc shes like a war criminal that comes not only in the form of apologizing for those who are or were close to her and she was awful too, but also destroying the surveillance system and stop spying on people. she tries to begin having good actions. she realizes what she had been doing, and feels guilty about it (for... probably the first time honestly. she was very indifferent about it before. everything she did was the most logical thing to do, after all.) i say shes still firmly morally grey tho bc while shes no longer like Evil, she still. goes back to spying on people and etc. shes still Like That, just toned down. all that show that while shes getting Better shes still not good, and probably will never be, because thats just how she is. crazy scientist manipulative pink candy princess. shes the best
she was also never truly evil tho bc even at her worse her actions were not to cause harm! Most Of The Time! and when they were to cause harm it wasnt just bc she was idk a sadist or something, it was with a goal (usually the neutral goal of Science or the good goal of protecting her people) in mind! Theyre still not excusable tho bc they did cause harm! a lot! to a bunch of different people! and like she does care a lot she loves marceline she loves finn she loves netty and she loved shoko but she just doesnt KNOW how to love people and all of those feelings are like behind a brick wall in her brain so she just tries to science everything out and it doesnt always work. like ARGH such a good character. such a good morally grey character. i ❤ bubblegum. i love watching the show and flinching at all the terrible shit she does and being like jesus christ bubblegum what the fuck
anyways here are more good pb analysis

People warned me that after gallbladder removal I'd probably have digestive upset with certain foods, specifically foods high in fat, but I've not found this to be the case. I haven't had any problems with burgers, olive oil, fries, or any stuff like that.
The two things I've ran into so far that *have* caused issues? Clementines and orange juice! Other fruits do not seem to have any negative effects, so maybe it's all the citric acid? But in any case, it's definitely a new issue bc before the surgery I would often eat 2-3 clementines per day with no problem. Just find it kind of an odd sensitivity to develop...🤔

Mum just like. Fundamentally misunderstands the Olanzapine cravings.
No mum I do feel full, but there is still hunger despite that. No mum I don't think drinking a cup of water to fill me up will actually fill me up.
Like. Why do you think I bought 3 boxes of muesli bars at once. Because it's possible I might have 3 a day because of these cravings. These certainly aren't going to last a full week.
