Tick, tock, tick, tock. He took steps in time with the clock, careful not to drown out its sound. She wouldn't hear him coming, wouldn't notice him until it was already too late. He was a professional. As he got closer and closer to her, euphoria rose in him over what was about to happen. He licked his lips expectantly, put every single one of his muscles under tension and reached out.   She screamed in surprise, squirmed, but it was all of no use. He already had her completely wrapped in his arms and firmly in his grip. Even her aikido could not save her now. "Heiji, please don't." Her plea only made his grin grow bigger. "Well, you should have thought of that earlier." This was his revenge, and it was perfect. Slowly, he slid his hands down her sides under her sweater, causing Kazuha to freeze. "N-no. You know I'm especially sensitiv-" She couldn't finish speaking, for in the next moment she burst into peals of laughter. Heiji acknowledged this with a satisfied snort and intensified his tickling even more. "A-stop!" Tears were already welling up in Kazuha's eyes from laughter, but Heiji remained firm. "First you take back what you said this morning." "I don't know what you mean," she asserted stubbornly, but did so in a tone that told the opposite. "Then perhaps it will help your memory if I move over to your feet?" Immediately Kazuha started kicking again, but it remained fruitless as before. Then, when Heiji lifted her foot, she gave up. "Okay, okay. You're the best detective in all of Japan." Heiji took his hand back, but didn't release her yet. "You think so?" "In the whole world," she added. She knew how to feed his ego. And indeed, he let go of her, and she took the chance to twist his hands behind his back and push him face-first onto the sofa. "H-hey. That was unfair!" he complained. "As unfair as sneaking up behind me and mugging me?" "That was just revenge." "A criminal's vindication from the mouth of a detective," she noted. Heiji sighed. "Will you let go of me now? Please?" "If you promise not to attack me again right away, then maybe." "I promise. Truly as I love you." Kazuha had to smile at this vow. Sometimes even this blockhead could be quite cute. "Good." She pulled him back to an upright position by his arms and looked him in the eyes. "But only because I love you too, Aho."
