Lowkey, the majority of my experience with G1 so far has been me nearly shouting "Who the hell are you?!" either because I'm seeing the G1 version of a G3 character for the first time or it's just a character I don't know yet.

I love it. It's like it's 2012 and I'm watching Transformers G1 for the first time again.

the way you were utterly excited to be inked by sukuna, not only because of his innate artistic talent, or even his good looks, but the fact that he was a sweet talker… or so you heard.

he would always take extra time prepping the skin, making sure it’s smooth and ready for the placement. he would meticulously place his stencil on, making sure you were satisfied with the placement but that ultimately he would be too. he wanted to be proud of it.

although he looks intimidating, and maybe he is a little, he’s ultimately super sweet when he’s in artist mode. constantly checking in on you every 20 minutes, momentarily stopping the buzzing of the tattoo gun to ask if you’re okay. you would always answer yes, this was nothing honestly. sukuna would grin and praise u, purring out things like “good girl” “you’re taking it so well”…

this. this was why you booked him. you were basically locked in at that point. every new tattoo idea you had, you came to him first. you would never admit it, but his little praises had you addicted.

it got to the point you didn’t even come up with the ideas anymore, you just asked him to ink you. you wanted to be his canvas. you would let him put anything on your body if he praised you for it. and he always did.

you always tried your best not to squirm or move around, but every little praise or comment had your body feeling. you couldn’t even feel the sensation of the needle pressing ink into your skin— all you could think about was the way his hand meticulously gripped the tattoo gun, how his bicep would flex, how he’d look up at you sometimes, studying you. one particular comment, “such a good girl, yeah?” had you softly whimpering out and jolting momentarily. his rough hand gripped your thigh, holding you into place. “be careful, princess” he warned. his sessions were usually private, no one else around to hear the glorious praises he would purr out with his sultry voice, every word dripping with tension.

he loved the complete and utter trust you gave him. sukuna loved that you were his personal project, his canvas, his toy. his gloved hands would linger a little too long when wiping the ink. he always admired his work, but this time he’s just admiring the canvas in front of him. it fills him with satisfaction seeing evidence of your trust in him literally inked onto your body.

“it looks amazing, ___” but he wasn’t talking about the tattoo. he was looking at you, every part of your body covered with him. he made his final wipe on the fresh tat, revealing the intricate design. “you were such a good girl this time.” he wraps your tattoo after cleaning it.

you smiled, “thank you~”

“you’re welcome, doll. on your knees so you can pay me now, sweetheart~”

Is one of the best competitive pokemon in a tier consisting of box legendaries, mons min-maxed to hell, and literal gods.

How does it do this? Well, thanks to the Unaware ability allowing it to ignore attack boosts, being able to take advantage of a fire/ghost typing, and a great movepool with recovery and status inflicting moves, it's able to stand up to and beat 1v1 three of the metagame's top offensive threats. 1: Zacian-Crowned.

That's right, the mon that was banned from the banlist last generation. With an ability completely countering both intrepid sword and the common swords dance, a resistance to Steeland Fairy, and a complete immunity to fighting, Skeledirge seems almost custom-designed to take all of Zacian's hits like a champ. It has no shortage of options to respond too, choosing between the supereffective torch song to deal big damage and will-o-wisp to permanently weaken the sword dog.

2.Koraidon

The new toy of pokemon scarlet, this pokemon is a strong contender for the best in the ubers metagame. Skeledirge happens to be one of the only pokemon that can stand up to its rampages of powerful fighting and sun-boosted fire attacks and recover off the damage or burn it. Even better, Koraidon's sun shores up dirge's weakness to water and powers up its own fire moves, making it tougher to switch out of. Just don't try and take a choice band boosted outrage.

3. Arceus-Normal

Better known by its apt nickname of "Ekiller", this lord of the pokemon universe has a very simple gameplan: click swords dance to boost attack, click extreme speed, the strongest and fastest move in the game, and sweep your team. It's fallen off somewhat compared to previous generations, mostly due to the fact that Skeledirge is its worst nightmare. Without being able to click swords dance or extreme speed, it must resort to trying to stop dirge from healing or clicking the world's most flaccid shadow claw.

Of course, there are drawbacks to using Skeledirge: its low speed and special defense especially hold it back from being a truly elite pokemon. But still, for one beautiful moment, the smogon community had to ask:

so i finally watched Bumblebee(2018) with a bunch of friends and

holy fucking shit

its incredible. its a 10/10. it is so, SO much better than the shit-tier bayformers movies were. it has color and soul and emotion and actual plot and clear motivations for the characters. the decepticons arent some morally gray vague entity, theyre a clearly manipulative, tyrannical regime. the autobots are clearly a resistance force that lost the war and is going to earth to regroup. the movie immediately opens up with a sequence that is full to bursting with color and personality and it makes it very clear that the fights and the cybertronians arent going to be all gray and greebly and boring because their designs are obvious renditions of the generation 1 iterations. theyre the actual transformers! and oh my GOD i cant stop gushing about the actual transformations in the movie, like, look at this.

my friend indyjacob said this, which is a technical examination that that i couldnt put into words:

it's not like the fucking original michael bay ones where the transformations are weird nonsense. like, you can see the cockpit canopy flip down into the chest piece, or the wings invert and then raise up alongside the jets, and the front intakes rotating into the arms. the parts of the vehicle actually shift into place on the new body as if it were the old toys

and these multi transformations are cool too

the animations are slower yet more impactful, theyre much less blurry, and they look incredible. the fight choreography incorporates many more transformation sequences, especially in the final fight of the film, and they have more weight to them. the fights arent just them ripping each other apart and blasting each other with one hit kill weapons. they use the environment, they use creativity, they use martial arts, and as with the transformations, its not a messy blur of gray movement. you can actually see whats going on!

and then the characters. oh my god theyre great. our main character aside from bumblebee is, first of all, a young woman named charlie. already starting off on a great note. and she has personality! this is the story of a girl and a transformer and their unbreakable bond that i so badly wanted mikaela and bumblebee to have in the bayformers films.

bumblebee himself is also fantastic- i wont spoil anything but his arc is sooo satisfying. and the villains arent just like, mindless monsters. they arent caricatures, they have clear personalities and motivations, and their plans are satisfying yet dismaying to watch unfold. and then agent burns, played by john cena, is such a great character. hes not just an insect in a hivemind of soldiers, hes a person who eventually actually understands whats at stake and he ended up as one of my favorites. just look at him!

the boy! so much emotion there. youll understand if you watch and reach that point in the film.

in conclusion, Bumblebee is the live action reboot that transformers really needed. michael bay did have a message in his original movies, but transformers was the wrong medium for it, and this film is everything that they should have been. if you havent watched it yet because, like myself, you were scared off by bayformers, please give it a shot. its nothing like them. like i said at the top of this post, its a 10/10. it rekindled my love for transformers, and i am very excited to see where this new line of movies goes.

No One Lives (2012) [This would run all the time when I had cable. And I'd sit and watch it every time this came on. There are...certain scenes that are just burned into my mind]

The Cell (2000) [I don’t even know what to say. The visuals in this movie are just SO GOOD. I want to tongue kiss the entire art direction team. The costumes, the cinematography, it’s so creative and so lovely]

Troma. Fucking Troma, a lot of the movies they make are gross, stupid and cheap. So if you want something that’s absurd but still strangely entertaining. I’d recommend looking through their catalog of movies, picking a random one and seeing what happens.

Full Moon Features <3 If you want some film series, I’d recommend Puppet Master and Subspecies! [I’ve seen every Subspecies]. Full Moon has a lot of killer doll and toy films. But they do branch out. Castle Freak kinda wild though.

Defunctland Disney Theme Documentary -A Critical Analysis-

so after a shit day of existing in public and thinking about my art, ive watched these videos of these very obscure youtubers :

the Defunctland video had me feeling we will never have a clear confirmation of who wrote the disney jingle. it's easy enough to get more information in the roblox video where the boss of the company (Tommy Tallarico) is so obviously putting himself out there any chance he has, even when he really should not. This man has seemingly always been kind of unlikeable, yet mostly tolerated for his entire career. On the other hand, hbomberguy mentioned the actual work of Joey Kuras, being the self-credited designer of all sound effects from.....most of the games that Tommy Tallarico Studios worked on for sound design. Joey Kuras also made the glorious sound design of the Fortnite Pick Squeak pickaxe, which is the best fucking fortnite pickaxe, after the scampi slugs pickaxe which is criminally underrepresented in the Fortnite Pickaxe Tier Lists, but whatever. Weirdly enough, none of haze's pickaxes are on the tierlist despite their extremely cool design theme, either. I didn't find the cool neon shark one, or the neon street signs either. Heh, whatever, just look at all of these I just mentioned. They're all above the pick squeak, naturally.

I'd say the vuvuzela pickaxe comes second after the pick squeak because obviously it does, it makes the player's brain enter football mode trying to activate the sound by finding a netcage and kick a ball into it, and the homestuck reference comes third because it's a good omen of what's to come. Then the balloon pickaxe is a strong fourth as it also makes great sounds of the balloons rubbing each other when you hit the air with it. Much subtler as far as sound design goes, but definitely a strong pick.

Honorable mentions go to the brightly colored dumbbell pickaxe, the splatoon pickaxe, and the drum pickaxe. Other notable pickaxes include a camera pickaxe, a pizza cutter pickaxe, but also a stop sign battleaxe pickaxe (which I feel is a very sapphic mood) as well as the obvious crowbar, going far in the anti-authoritarian aesthetic. There's also the survivalist shovel that's pretty cool, as well as a bunch of others whose shapes surprisingly escape my understanding altogether. And then there is the trash, where the pickaxe stabbing a shark goes (the shark isn't even neon at this point !!! Trash).

Those are the forgettable ones. Yeah, the planet pickaxe is forgettable and doesn't even appeal to a cosmic aesthetic. It looks like a toy, and if you want a toy pickaxe just buy the pick squeak next time it comes in the shop. Get yourself ready with the fortnite trackers and shit, its only 1500 Vbucks. Worth it even if you don't play the game. Its what, the price of an entire meal ? Come on. Worth it.

Anyway god damn it.

Aside from that. Yeah. I think the Defunctland video couldn't do as much of a good investigation job because it's about Disney. As a mediatic monopoly on media, you can't simply retrace the work people made as well as in a company that was seemingly just two ex-Virgin employees trying to make a sound design company work out.

In the Defunctland video, the only clear confirmation we get that Alex Lasarenko is the composer of the melody the entire video is about is by Andrea Taylor, the previous Senior Vice President of Disney Channel. Which by all accounts has never worked in the sound design of any of disney's projects.

Her job was to "create" personalities for networks, as in : be the link between a brand and the artists that will then rework its identity. Organize contractors, including Tonal Sound, which was founded by Alex Lasarenko after leaving Elias Music in 2002, the same year the actual jingle was composed and used on the channel. I think it's important to keep in mind that Alex Lasarenko is said to have been the "creative director" of both companies (Elias and Tonal), which I think is not the right term.

Creative directors are assigned from the start of a specific project, no matter the industry. Someone will assume the leading role in order to help focusing said project in one direction, making sure it doesn't get carried away to become something entirely different in the process. It's mostly a managerial role which does imply a strong grasp on the domain's technicalities, as a creative director can absolutely directly contribute to the project.

The issue is, Alex Lasarenko was also the executive of both these projects that were contracted by disney. What's absolutely certain at this point is that the theme song has been made under Alex Lasarenko, whether it's at Elias or Tonal. My take is, it was probably made under Elias as they still seem to be a provider for the Disney audio identity to this day, as shown on their website. On the other hand, there is no way to check online what specific projects Tonal Sounds worked on, unfortunately, as it's been shut down since.

And because Eric Perlmutter wrote the "Let's Watch a Disney Channel Movie" Theme under Tonal Sound after having followed Alex Lasarenko out of Elias, while still not knowing who actually made the jingle, I think it's safe to say Alex Lasarenko didn't actually make it on his own. The direction taken for the bumpers's music was much more vague than if it was passed down to Eric Perlmutter by the composer of the original jingle himself.

Kevin : "Wait so you didn't write the theme, but you wrote with the theme ?"

Eric : "Yes, so we would have the theme. Mostly for those, we just had so much fun with them[...]because they're so short."

-talking about his experience, contracted by Disney within Elias Associates, working under the leadership of Alex Lasarenko. Which then goes on to talk about the sheer status of Elias Music (formerly known as Elias Art or Elias Associates). Eric saying "we" as a pronoun when he's talking about getting to work with the pre-made 4 notes from the disney channel's theme song reminds me of something.

Yeah, that's the answer. It was Joey who wrote the disney jingle.

More seriously, the actual important bit in the Defunctland video is at 59:06 where Kevin asks Eric about the status of Elias as a company, to which Eric responds in a very, thematically interesting way :

Eric : "I think the company tried to harness this idea of "there are no individuals here" [...] You aren't allowed to be known."

This is basically the conclusion hbomb makes in his video, mentioning how easy it is for a huge company to simply erase these names over time, as most of the work is done to establish quickly brand image and never to actually help conserve the work and allow artists to have their own career paths accessible on the long term.

Eric actually tells us about how big Elias was, and how intimidating it was to work under Alex Lasarenko in his interview, but that they were good friends and worked a lot together. The documentary seems to derail from "trying to find out" who wrote the song, to a post-mortem tribute to Alex Lasarenko, which unfortunately might still not be the one who technically created the song.

Eric mentions his former boss as the "ringleader" of all of the Elias composers, which does fit his established job as executive. The striking choice of words that go right after is the bit that made me the most emotional from the entire video though :

Eric : "Its tough when you have a boss who's a genius and who's just an absolute music prodigy, and you're just a dumb rock bass player trying to[...] breathe the same air as him"

The previous interviewee, David Little,has been working with Alex for a long time, and said "He was one of those guys, if a camera came out, he was outta here" which is definitely a healthier way to deal with working in the industry than Tommy Tallarino , thats for sure. (watch hbomb's video if you haven't done already, its great)

The interviewing session ends with Andrea Taylor telling us she worked with Alex Lasarenko back on her TNT job, where they used an orchestra to rework the channel's audio identity, probably lead by Alex himself, within that five years job.

But within the more recent disney job, Andrea Taylor tells us a lot about how the entire job went down, with a lot of very evil meetings to create demands within kids for upcoming disney movies by producing disney merch and special bumpers a whole year before said movie would even release (specifically known about "the "The Lizzy McGuire Movie" and the "Finding Nemo" movie, thanks to this interview).

At no point does Andrea seem to have any real insight in the artistic creation of every element that goes into the rebranding, she only organizes them and makes sure they all the different contractors do the work on time, by talking with the executives. Which does lead me to believe this here is a case of actual long term erasure of the person who created this melody, when she immediately credits Alex Lasarenko because she knows him as the one responsible for musical departments she used for her job.

Kevin : "Do you remember anything from the production, when he was writing the theme ?"

Andrea : "You know, he probably did it in like a day or two. Things just came to him. He was amazing. I mean he probably wouldn't have said he wrote it in a day, he probably would've said Oh I struggled over it for months !"

She wasn't there, unfortunately. She wasn't producing it. She is not a producer after all, she is a bachelor of communications from Boston University.

Kevin then goes on to call the producer Andy Solomon thanks to Andrea sending him his contact information, but Kevin isn't shown asking for confirmation that Alex really did write the theme, even though Solomon probably supervised the entire thing. Maybe it was cut, but from this point onwards the video becomes a hommage to Lasarenko instead. His sister Lisa Lasarenko then talks about his genius-like qualities as an artist, followed by David Little who also praises the "effortless" nature of his entire craft.

To me, this documentary concludes on this idealized depiction of a quiet artist who made sure he wouldn't appear on cameras his entire life, highlighted by the fact that Kevin found only one photo of him on his obituary. He was the anti-Tommy Tallarino, never attempting to reach the spotlights in his life, yet working for a massive sound company whose entire goal is to centralize sound production as well as completely erase all names from the work.

In the end, there is no real confirmation Alex wrote the theme (unless Kevin has footage of the producer having insight on when and how the theme was created exactly, which would probably be in the video if it was the case.) I barely even watched disney channel in my life and I still know about the motion of the wand IDs. This is a missed opportunity to brag, which is out of character for a corporation.

I talked mostly about Defunctland's video because it touched me in this specific way, but also kind of sent me chills about how efficient the actual music & editing of a video can be to convey subtle messaging. Being afraid of actually entering the animation industry with all the shit you can read about, there's absolutely a lot of ways artists get exploited, erased and even their image distorted for profit.

In the end I'm glad youtubers are talking about these subjects in such rigorous ways, as it's a very important part of how the newer generations (me included) perceive the various industries we aspire to invest ourselves in. There is never enough conversation had around the subjects of media ownership, art creation and overall what's going inside our industries, and I am so glad it's the focus of accessible works anyone can watch and think about nowadays.

Summary:

Propaganda:

Akudama Drive is an anime produced by a video game company, and it’s amazingly a single standalone piece, unlike their other projects. The three people who lead the creation of the Danganronpa series (character designer, story writer, and music composer) came together and produced something so different from their usual pattern and it pays off.

The character designs are so fun, the music vibes hard, and the story is better than anything seen in DR before since (no offense meant) the cast all get fleshed out as individuals beyond a single trope. Everyone is depicted as morally grey, and it’s such a fun experience to watch the madness break out and root for the bad guys or the bad guys.

Every scene is so pretty, and you can see the color theory SLAPPING THE SCREEN, it’s so pleasing to look at. The voice acting is also top tier! The character evolution can literally be heard in the voices 🛐 The anime is a fun show with cool stunts and epic battles, but it’s still got some interesting social commentary if you’re the type that loves dissecting that madness. There’s a little something for everyone!

Kind of a rant on Furby Connect cuz it deserved better

(sorry if some of the sentences are way too long, it's just how I type and even talk irl and I can't do anything about it sadly)

It's really disappointing to me that Furby Connect was cancelled before they even finished the app and a lot of the toy's functions they planned to add, and also what they did with it in general cuz it had so much potential to be one of the best Furbys if they did a few things differently (mostly the marketing), like look at the toy's design, in my opinion it looks more "friendly" to a lot of non-Furby fans than any of the previous Furby generations - saying this from experience cuz Furby Connect personally got me interested in Furbys as a whole and I bet I wasn't the only one who didn't like the other models that much at first but liked Furby Connect for its more "cartoony" design, and then got into Furbys and started liking the other ones too thanks to Furby Connect.

Another thing I like to talk about is the app - there's a lot wrong with it, such as all the glitches and stuff (some are probably caused by the fact that my copy is from a some unofficial website but that's the only place you can even get the app now so I'm glad to have it AT ALL) and some functions and features of the app that are kinda... Cringy I guess? You probably know what I'm talking about (I didn't ask to see Furby taking a virtual shit and you probably didn't either). I don't think that the target age demographic in 2016 found that type of humor to be that funny either. And if they did then still definitely didn't want to hear about it every two seconds.

But for every thing I don't like about the app, there's several things I love about it - such as the virtual Furblings' designs, which are GOD TIER. They're really cute, and after playing the bootleg game "Whimsical Island" and comparing that app's own designs of its Furblings (not talking abt the ones that were just straight up stolen models from the original, I mean the ones that appear in the mini-games and such), the bootleg ones are cute, but it feels like they are just trying way too hard to be cute, making them look kinda "soulless" or "artificial", while the original Furby Connect World Furblings were so well designed and animated that they almost looked like actual animals (or people, idk to me Furbys are something in-between so whatever), as in they had character and "personality" and they were just naturally cute (seriously the cutest virtual pets I've seen, everyone who worked on that app deserves way more credit, especially the artists, animators and voice actors - yeah the voice acting is another thing I love about the app).

Now for the marketing of the Furby Connect toy, I think this is where most things went wrong. The whole thing with basically needing the app to play with the Furby cuz it doesn't do that much without it is a huge problem but it's not an exclusively Furby Connect problem because it was already there with Furby Boom and I can't really blame them that much for it either cuz it was a trend at the time, but I think the app thing can be actually very cool IF the toy can also do something without it, which sadly can't be really said about Furby Connect and Boom. This is very ironic when you find out that the whole premise of the original Furby was that it's a real eletronic pet and not a virtual one like Tamagotchi. Even Furby Boom still had actual toys of the Furblings, which you could even scan into the app to make virtual copies of them, which I think was an awesome feature, but Furby Connect just straight up made them virtual and nothing else (which makes me so mad I WANT THEM TO BE REAL!!!!) so full circle. Such a shame really.

That being said, I love Furby Connect and as much as I'm disappointed in a lot of things, I can still kinda ignore all those flaws and enjoy my kinda broken copy of Furby Connect World which I don't even know how I managed to obtain cuz it's getting more and more difficult lol. Anyways I hope that if there will ever be a 5th generation of Furby, it will be better (or at least as good as Furby Connect cuz my expectations are low but anything goes at this point, sadly).

But yeah I still do love Furby Connect a lot.

Author commentary: There's an upper limit to the rungs of the echeladder. Which is a thing I guess I decided not long before this panel. It's my way of saying, we're done with this silly thing. We're moving to a new logic for advancing levels. We've got to get to the god tier stuff soon. People don't know that yet, but we do. What they do know is those dang blue pajamas John was wearing earlier still need to be explained. Don't worry, Vriska (who else?) will be all over this soon. There's always been something a little childish about the echeladder aesthetic, like it's a leveling system meant for a little kid. Part of it is the toy-like design, but it's also conveyed through some of the names, like Riptike, Kneehigh Pilgrim, or Cool Buckaroo. The time for juvenile nonsense is over. Soon John must put aside his childhood ways and embrace his destiny as a very serious adult. Which apparently involves spending literally every moment of your life from now on in some ridiculous pajamas while still being mostly useless.

controversial/unpopular opinion: Simon's Quest wasn't as bad as people made out to be.

Ehhhhh kinda agree...?

It's not a Sonic 06 tier game, the game (mostly) works on a technical level (unless we're talking about the bosses, which are 100% broken).

However the fact that it's pretty much impossible to complete without a guide due to its crypticness (which was nothing necessarily unique to it within the larger context of 80s adventure games, see Zelda and Metroid, but still very severe) puts a pretty big stain on it.

But honsetly? Even if we ignore its more cryptic aspects the game....jsut doesn't live up to its predecessor: the level design is much more basic and less focused, I could swear there are more cases here of enemies spawning from offscreen and taking you by surprise, the amount of grinding you have to do in order to buy stuff gets really tedious (even the likes of Dawn of Sorrow, which has a similar grinding problem, at leastt makes said grinding mostly optional, not to mention the game is far better from a level/enemy/boss design perspective overall).

Even the graphics and music feel like a step down (how many locations are actually recolors of previous ones?), like yeah Bloody Tears is phenomenal....but I can list only 2 more tracks that are memorable.

I'd still very much rather play this over the likes of Castlevania the Adventure or Haunted Castle (dear God!) but I don't feel Simon's Quest's reputation is completely unwarrented, though the AVGN making it his personal chew toy certainly hasn't helped matters

I mean, I would like to get a few short stories / poems / animation shorts / short films / "software toys" going and by far. So may as well pitch a few of my current narrative draft ideas for initial practice...

I guess I will make it clear that I feel a powerful need to write down immersive / cohesive yet oxymoron Axis victory set of stories. Most likely with some cultural & technological nuances (not about making Nazism, Fascism and others legitimate but definitely challenging some assumptions we societally made from the world wars) & conflicted characters as far as emulating dystopia-writing with a humane / relatable touch.

Akuma is ALWAYS a problem. Whether it is because of his traditional moveset that contains everything a Street Fighter character needs to trouble the top of a tier list or his often ludicrous damage output, Akuma is a character who is going to cause problems whenever he appears in a game. Throughout the years, since his first appearance as a secret character in Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Akuma is almost always one of the best characters in any game he is a playable character in. Hell, he even ended up in Tekken 7 and was one of the best characters in that series, too. Akuma is inevitable. And now, he’s on the cusp of appearing in Street Fighter 6 as the final DLC character in season one. May God have mercy on our souls. During a brief hands-on session with an 'Akuma build' of SF6 ahead of his release into the game proper, everything I expected was confirmed. Akuma is a well-equipped menace of a character, designed around inflicting hugely damaging combos whenever he lands a hit, with all of his usual tools at his disposal. He's a beast. So, you’ve got things like his ‘Shoto’ moves - fireball, hurricane kick and uppercut - his tricky ‘Demon Flip’, where he flies across the screen at you and can potentially hit you with several possible attacks that forces the opponent to make a quick guess and react accordingly. He has his aerial fireball - the special move that made him so broken in his debut appearance - and a divekick, ensuring that he can pause or change his jump trajectory and deliver an attack, making an approach from the air extremely perilous and can bait out any anti-air attempts by your opponent. Watch on YouTube He can charge his fireball so it not only hits multiple times but will tank a hit through a rival’s projectile too, making him a dominant force in any fireball wars you may find yourself in too. And, of course, if that all doesn’t sound like enough, he has a teleport so he can get himself out of dodge when the going gets tough. Simply put, he once again has ways that allow a player to control the fight no matter what the situation and constantly provide them with different ways to approach things offensively. So, it sounds like he doesn’t need anything else, correct? Well, Capcom have deemed it fit to hand him a few extra toys for his arsenal this time around. First up is a novel move called Admant Flamewhich is perhaps the least interesting but likely the most useful. A enormous strike that can be done on its own or can have an additional hit put on the end of it, to be used mainly in combos or as a means of punishing an opponent who is throwing out strikes recklessly. The ‘OD’ version of this move causes the opponent to be put into a stunned state against the corner of the stage, no matter where it is performed, allowing for a combo to continue and - crucially - gives the player immediate corner control, which is an extremely robust position in Street Fighter 6. His teleport now has a novel move attached to it - the Orobo Throw - allowing you to teleport Akuma up to your opponent and throw them. That’s correct, they’ve basically given him a command grab! It is, mercifully, pretty highly telegraphed by the initial teleport animation and, after a very brief bit of testing, it appears that the opponent can react to it with a throw of their own and win the exchange. Even so, that is yet another string to Akuma’s pretty bloody well strung offensive bow. My favourite novel addition is the terrifying sounding Demon Raida novel addition to his Demon Flip move, performed by holding down during the initial flip that causes Akuma to do… absolutely nothing. Instead of tossing a fireball, doing a divekick or slamming down with an overhead strike, Akuma simply lands beside his opponent.

Now, the thing here is that the usual follow-ups to the Demon Flip are going to have a player trying to block an attack, so Akuma now has a way he can catch an opponent out and hit them with a throw, for instance. It adds a whole novel dimension to the traditional mindgames around this move - there’s going to be so many clips of people doing packed screen Demon Flips, landing and hitting the other player with his legendary super move, the Shun Goku Satsu - or more commonly - the RAGING DEMON. I’m going to be raging at man the first time I get caught out by that. All these novel moves slot wonderfully into Akuma’s usual highly aggressive playstyle, with all of his standard attacks feeling really rigid and impactful and, within the session I was doing some pretty un-optimal combos that were knocking 50% plus of my opponent’s health off just because they didn’t block a jumping attack. It was a lot of fun. However, as is the case, Akuma is what is known as a ‘glass canon’ character and although his potential for deleting health bars is very high, he has the lowest health in the game. A quick test showed that a Punish Counter throw takes off around 30% of his total health. Hit, but don’t GET hit is still very much the character gameplan here. Although it is impossible to truly tell until some much better players get their hands on him, Akuma seems to have everything you need to be a competitive character in the current Street Fighter 6 meta - which will itself shift upon Akuma's release with a range of character balance updates.
