Vampires in Broad Daylight

Having finished Interview with the Vampire with Walter, we found ourselves discussing the subject matter while under the covers. I was already snuggled up against him last night, eyes closed, but with my mind still fully active. He did as he usually does in these moments, and followed along while his pinched airways made him snore every other sentence. You could've sworn we were both asleep, but Walt's slight gestures when he raised a point, or his raising and lowering eyebrows, would've betrayed that we were in the midst of an interesting bit of discourse.

Back when Neil Jordan gave it his shot, all the Straights ever saw involved pretty monsters doing monstrous things to each other. Jordan's treatment buried the gay subtext under moral quandaries and enough sentiment to make even Herman Hesse's ghost tell Rice to tone it down. Now we've got a version vetoed by Christopher Rice himself, and the gay subtext isn't sub anymore. Louis de Pointe du Lac and Lestat de Lioncourt are gay. That's the series' beginning thesis. That reframes a few things interestingly - and posits that before being the "Brat Prince", Lestat was - and likely still is - a toxic individual to be around.

Walter started telling me about one of his earlier trysts, before he knew to embrace his own nature and to pursue love out of the perception that he deserved it. There was this guy, or so he tells me, who was the very picture of success. Clean-cut, fit, dressed to the nines in a way that made Sartoriophiles like Walter sweat bullets, cultured, pleasant to be around - and supposedly a living god in the bedsheets. Walter hung out with him for a few years, in the seventies. He rode the best cars, booked the best restaurants, and made Walt feel like someone finally appreciated him.

Then the microaggressions started. Tiny comments on Walter's weight, on his choice of tailoring, on the Marketing firm he was working in as a junior associate, at the time. On the food he ate, on how he snored in bed. On how he never had enough stamina to finish, when he took the lead. On how Walt was, and is, the type to roll over and fall asleep after sex. The truth is the guy didn't want to bare his soul or listen to Walter after doing the deed, he wanted to talk about himself. After doing exactly that for eight hours prior.

Walter didn't exist under this particular ex's wing. He merely survived. Walter ended up killing him - professionally - by exposing just how bloated our buddy's Expenses account was.

"Vampires exist," Walter told me. "They're the walking beacons, torches in the gloom of a Christmas afterparty. They've got more life than you or I combined - and everything is endlessly and forever about them."

His other hand rounded his gut and gently raised my head up. He had this precise look I keep falling for - a mixture of tiredness and boundless love; like we're not partners on equal footing for a minute or two, but I'm also existing as someone he also has avuncular fondness for; in parallel to the love that pulls us together.

I'm both his lover and the son he's never had.

"For every ounce of me you took over the past five years," he tells me, "you've given me a pound of your own. Your care, your attention, your time and your kindness - and you're always here, Grem. You listen, and you inspire me to keep doing the same. It feels like this jackoff sapped years out of me, and you make me feel twenty years younger."

I'm fighting to stay awake. "Even when we disagree on things?"

He smiled. "Especially when we disagree on things. We're constructive towards one another, and we're never so angry that we can't go back to one another, if you've noticed. We rephrase, reframe and apologize if need be... We work. We're not feeding off of one another, we're..."

He briefly lets me go to bring his hands together in a steeple. "We're feeding one another, instead," he says. "Not like parasites, though."

"We try and be symbiotic," I mumble. Walter repeats the word, mulls it over, I feel him nodding. He grunts in assent and his breaths start to deepen.

I wake up a few hours later. It's the middle of the night, I've rolled over on my side and Walt and I are spooning. I feel his head move slightly on the pillow, between his intakes and exhales. He's hugged me close without being too tight.

I remember Claudia's line about Lestat and Louis' breaths synching, when they share a coffin. Walt's pulse matches mine beat-for-beat. His exhales faintly smell of his Saturday evening pipe, like rythmic caresses on the nape of my neck.

You've got vampires who fizzle out after sapping the life-force out of everything they touch. Inconstant lovers who see themselves as a gift from God when they're more of an Infernal punishment. Maybe some vampires are like Walt and I, then: we give each other strength and I'm filled with the notion that the count of our years doesn't matter.

If I only get ten, maybe twenty good years with him, then these will be our Forever. Within the limits of that span of time, we'll effectively feel timeless.

Synopsis- When Yn decides to put her boring life aside and go to her high school reunion where she’s met with her ex— her ridiculously hot single ex who also cheated on her. After a steamy one night stand, she isn’t expecting to see him again in her office with an adorable puppy and his equally adorable daughter.

“Easy for him to say.” You scrolled away from your daily inspirational quote and shut your phone off. “What’s wrong?” Momo faintly asked, taking a bite of her muffin, you sighed. “I had to do surgery on not one but— two cats!” You querulously let out, Momo issued a sharp ‘tsk’ at your complaining. “You’re always complaining about having to do your job.” Momo pointed out now picking the chocolate chips out of her snack. “You’re lucky. Always getting the hamsters or bunnies.” You whined, ignoring Momo’s eye roll at your continuous complaints. “Half of the time the Hamsters are dead or hibernating, and bunnies aren’t as fun as you think. They seriously poop like every five minutes.” Momo argued contrary to your claims, throwing her now chocolate-less muffin into the garbage. “So much better than Snakes who decide to have themselves for lunch.” You snapped your head to the male entering the break room. Mark was wearing his puppy-covered scrubs, as usual, his usual chestnut hair was now a burgundy color and he looked spent. “Guys! I will not tolerate your complaining! Come on, we have the best job on the planet, taking care of cute little predominantly harmless animals!” the both of you eyed Momo, her enthusiastic outburst caused Mark to let out a caustic snicker. “Yeah, the next guy who decides he wants to keep a wild raccoon as a pet— I'll send him to you.” Mark puffed; Momo rolled her eyes. “You guys decided you wanted to be exotic veterinarians! Yn you signed up to be an animal surgeon!” Momo lectured before she turned around to wash her hands. You nodded at Momo’s contention “Well this pays more. But I won’t deny I love animals but— the work is awfully vexing these days. I need to go out.” you admitted. Momo let out a scoff. “Joshua and I invite you out all the time but you never come out.” She whined, poking your arm, you shook your head fiercely. “I hate being the third wheel of your corny sports bar dates.” you sharply avowed, causing Momo to let out a chuff. “Pessimism! There it is.” she quickly pinpointed, her finger outstretched and pointing at you. “How am I being pessimistic for not wanting to watch you make out with Joshua for three hours while drinking honest to god bad beer.” Momo rolled her eyes. “You're only looking at the bad side. We have good times too! Well it's 11:45, I have an appointment with a cute little husky puppy soon!” she said, a teasing tone entering her voice as she bragged about her imminent appointment.

Work was— well work. When you got into your apartment you were winded by the sudden gust of cold air. Which meant Daniel was home. It may come off to many that you're a lonely bitch, which is only partially true. Temporarily, you had Daniel, your boyfriend of a year now. Even though you two decided to split three months ago, he still lived with you and was soon moving into his apartment. You only used the title “boyfriend” as a cover-up to hide the fact you were a single 27-year-old with a cat named Stitch that didn't even like you. Not that you thought there was anything wrong with that, you just didn't like what other people thought, that's different.

You went to turn the thermostat down; eventually puffing at the temperature of 78 degrees, you began furiously lowering it. “Daniel—!” you muttered even if you wanted to shout his name from the top of your lungs at that moment. You placed your jacket on the back of the couch and ventured further into the apartment. “Hey. You got mail— hereeee it is!” Daniel was standing in the kitchen in his plaid pajama pants and a plain black t-shirt. He placed the pale yellow envelope on the counter distancing it from the other stack of mail across from it. You quietly hummed before sighing, “Okay, don't go through my mail and what did I tell you about running up the utility bill? It's fall for fucks sake, Daniel, you don't need the A/C, open the window!” you reprimanded stomping over and taking your mail. It'd been such a long time since he's shown his face there that you forgot why it didn't work out for you two in the first place. “Whatever,” he grumbled as you walked into your bedroom. He was fucking impossible for you to work with.

You opened the envelope, ready to just skim over it and throw it out, but it seems that would be furthest from your plans.

“A reunion?” You could hear the smile in Momo’s voice at her question. “Momo— Yes it’s a reunion.” You sarcastically respond brushing your damp hair staring into your vanity. “Why do you always look so sexy after a shower?” Momo teased a bad habit of hers since the first day you met her. She always flirted with you at random times, but you understood it was her way of giving you affection when you’re being grouchy. You looked at your laptop, staring at Momo who was cooking something. “Whatever— what are you cooking?” you asked and she grinned at the camera. “I wanted to try this new shrimp alfredo recipe,” she answered, turning around to face her stove, giving you a view of her large white t-shirt and sweatpants. “But Yn. You should go. Meet or Re-meet some people, so you have someone other than me or Stitch.” Momo attached to her prior statement, turning around to glance at her screen to make sure you heard her. “I know. I know. I am. It's just— I had no good memories there!” you explained putting your brush down. “Well, the people who caused all those bad memories are going to see how hot and amazing you are and are going to regret it!” Momo cheered, finally turning around and facing the screen. You couldn't help the smile that crept onto your face as you jokingly rolled your eyes.

Without Momo you didn’t know where you’d be, she was your rock in more ways than one and she was the most supportive and reliable friend you’d ever met.

As time passed on it seemed like your life was getting more boring by the day, and nothing exciting happened. Well except for Daniel finally moving out, that was pretty mind-boggling for you. You were still celebrating your freedom from him.

You met Daniel last year, he took his mom's dog to the vet, and unfortunately, you ended up hitting it off. Sadly Daniel just wasn’t your type, he was too— childish? Like he couldn’t grasp being an adult, having deadlines, taking rainchecks.

Finally, came the awaited day of your reunion, were you scared to show your face there? Not necessarily but you weren't exactly ecstatic. You figured since it was on an off day and you had nothing better to do then why not go? You let Momo come over and doll you up, curling your hair and squeezing you into one of her very tight mini dresses. “Oh my God you're so fucking hot!” she exclaimed loudly, startling Stitch from his resting spot on your pillow. “Momo I can't even walk in these!” you held onto her shoulders, trying not to tumble over, due to the unfamiliarity of the placing of your feet. “These are like 8- inches!” you exaggerated finally finding balance and letting her go. “They’re five inches Yn.” she corrected, her eyes still scanning. The black latex dress she placed you in unbearably tight and even though you were in pain she was grinning. “You seriously look so hot. Like a supermodel!” she complimented again, “come on, Joshua wants me home by 8:30 were starting ‘You’ tonight.” she added, grabbing your hand, and pulling you out the apartment. You'd be lying if you said you didn't envy your best friend, she was living the life you always envisioned yourself with. She was happy, in a stable relationship, had a very stable income, lived in a Condo, and even her pets lived a more fascinating life than you. She was just everything you've ever wanted to be, but you don't let your envy get the best of you. Because she does deserve everything she has and more.

You weren’t socially awkward, just distanced. Even when you were supposed to be smiling in each other's faces because distance brings fondness or some shit, you didn’t care too much for it and preferred to hang out by where the drinks were being served. You were very comfortable in your corner until you heard your name being called. You glimpsed over to see a group of girls waving at you, which you sheepishly returned. God, you hated them. Those four were so annoying. You thought before filling up another cup of vodka and punch.

“Oh my God Yn?” a very pregnant girl was stumbling over to you. “It’s me! Vicky.” she smiled at you. You smiled back remembering the girl. She was acknowledged around school as Icky Vicky. For— reasons. Let's just say you're not shocked that she's pregnant. “God, you look so good! What do you do?” she sought, taking a sip of water. “I’m a vet.” you answered with a nod and she smiled. “Oh, that sounds like fun. I'm a stay-at-home mom these days. I have four right now, but this one's number five.” she grinned rubbing her swollen stomach. You let out a ‘wow’ at her words. You could barely take care of yourself and your cat, but five kids at once? Yeah, no thank you. “It was good to see you!” she smiled rubbing your arm as she stumbled about.

You weren't having a hard time catching up with some people but now you were sitting at the corner table drinking vodka punch. “Can I sit here?” you nodded at the male voice before unlocking your phone. Briefly, you looked up at the person who sat across from you before your eyes widened. “Jeongguk?!” you tested his name on your tongue, it still tasted the same. Still sweet and bitter, like dark chocolate. He looked at you and his eyes widened as well. “Woah—Yn? You- you look good. I didn't recognize you.” he admitted in complete awe, “I could say the same.” you retorted, a surprised chuckle slipping past your lips. Jeongguk wasn't Jeongguk anymore. At least not the one you remember. The boy you knew was quiet and lean, but the man across from you had a bold aura, his whole body was bulbous with muscle, he had piercings on his ears, lip, and eyebrow. Tattoos littered over his hands and arms, were you staring for too long? It’d been a while since you’ve seen someone so— hot. “Wow-” he said again, rubbing his hands through his hair. His hair. Oh god yes, you were sure he was going to ask. “And I have a daughter,” he added, looking at his empty cup. “What’s her name?” You inquisitively asked which was an answer he was not expecting from you. Most women were turned off by him being a single dad at his age. They thought he was irresponsible they thought he didn’t know what pulling out was, or what contraceptives were. His eyes met yours again. “Jisu.” he replied, “That's pretty..how old is she?” You inquired, “She’s four.” he held up his hand showcasing four fingers. “I can’t see you as a dad— not like that, but the tattoos and- I’m not saying that you can’t be a dad with tattoos-” “Do you wanna get out of here?” he cut off your rambling and you sighed in relief, god you were embarrassing yourself. “I thought you’d never ask.”

He understood what you meant, he just didn’t look like the type to be a father. He appeared to be the guy whose fathers warned their daughters about, but inside he was the opposite.

You and Jeongguk ended up in his backseat in some dark, empty alley. His hands were dancing on your upper thighs, your hands were entangled in his hair. You finally got to touch his luscious silky hair. His lips were against yours, like lines to paper you two just fit. Although you weren’t rid of the memories of high school, and lamentably the outcome of your previous relationship. But you couldn’t stop, the warmth that enveloped your body as his lips told you a million stories, as his hands made you feel a million emotions. His hands unzipped your dress, his fingers ghosting your shoulders as he slid the now loosened material down your shoulders, halted at your hips. It left you in your black strapless bra. All while being the epilogue, the part where you’ve taken in all the information. Each unpremeditated shift of his hands feeling like sudden fireworks going off on the 4th of July, you know it’s going to happen but you're not quite prepared for the loud bang; that bang being Jeongguk’s hands on your body, creating inadvertently profound friction against your now heated skin.

Your hands get courage, sliding in between the intensity of warmth emitting from your bodies press against one another. You began to unbutton his white button-up. Passion coursed through your veins as you could feel his bare chest against your hands with each button gone. “Fuck— I need to be inside of you. Is that okay?” he murmured against your lips, his voice low and lustful. You nodded frantically, god he was so hot and respectful? God, you were bursting at the seams at this man. It’s so sexy and cerebral and the main characters are so hot. Jimin is just a guy trying to live his life, but whatever is brewing between him and his best friend’s sister is driving him insane. He wants to be a good guy, but she just isn’t playing fair.

Are You Sure? by @cutechim is such a swoon-worthy and touching piece of wonderful. I tell you I was MOVED. This is beautiful and emotional and EXTREMELY satisfying. Taehyung’s best friend has a sister who he has always secretly adored. When she comes to him and asks for some intimate experience, he isn’t strong enough to say no—not when she’s everything he ever wanted.

Drivers License and Detour by @gyukult is sweet and tender and just a fantastic coming of age story. The reader has been in love with her brother’s best friend, Park Jimin, for almost all of her youth... but what is going on in his head?It’s a tender story that really warms the heart. AND I am happy there is more coming. I would read about these two all day. She published the second part and oh my gosh it’s so incredibly perfect I could scream. This was just such a beautiful journey every step of the way.

Milestone by @1kook is probably one of the first brother’s best friend BTS fics I read and it is amazing. I adore it so much. Because Jungkook is your brother’s best friend he is there for every milestone in your life. But you’ve both grown up now and neither of you are kids anymore. It’s hot. Like really hot. Dialogue and set up are so sharp and fast paced I really loved every second.

Young God by @njssi is scorching hot smut with complicated feelings and warm revelations. You think it’s going somewhere and then it goes somewhere else and honestly it is so awesome the whole time. Jungkook was always your brother’s sweet little friend, but he’s returned determined to show you that he is all grown up.

Tease by @caiuscassiuss floored me. I loved it so much! I spent the whole story just squealing happily about everything. This story has it all. It’s scorching hot. It’s enemies-to-lovers. It’s Taehyung. Jungkook’s sister and Kim Taehyung do not get along AT all—so she decides to bring him to his knees by making him desperate for her. It’s a wild and completely awesome ride.

Wasabi by @ironicarmy is a classic. Hobi is a bad boy that Namjoon vehemently refuses to let near his precious baby sister. But love is too strong a force and soon Hobi and the clever object of his desire decide that some things are worth fighting for. It’s a really sweet story of facing challenges and relying on the people you love. Warm and fuzzy feelings abound, but it’s also super hot.

Forbidden by @btssmutgalore is a masterwork blueprint for this trope. Hobi is a carefree player who falls brutally for Taehyung’s sister. They two of them eventually give in to a VERY steamy series of secret encounters and feelings get very involved. This is hot, suspenseful, and emotionally satisfying. Excellent characterizations as well.

Prohibido by @personasintro is an office AU with a twist. Namjoon is not only her brother’s best friend, he is also her boss and the two of them have incredible chemistry. Watching them pretend that they’re not insanely attracted to each other is so endearing and hot. Reader is convinced her feelings are one-sided. It’s lovely and fun. Definitely a slow burn, but worth it.

Strawberry Kisses by @kimnjss is a fic that I devoured in one sitting and then re-read again immediately. Jeon Jungkook is a player who matches with a girl on a dating app and has no idea she is the sister of his revered mentor and close friend, Min Yoongi. I laughed. I cried. I GASPED OUT LOUD a bunch. It was a whole thing. This is a hybrid social media/written AU and it’s pretty much perfect.

Tempestuous by @ppersonna is so special to me because it was written at the very beginning of my friendship with Lindy. She was looking for requests and I was quick to request my favorite trope. Lindy is bae now and this fic she wrote is marvelous. You are forced to spend the weekend in the same house with your sexy arch-rival Taehyung who just so happens to be your brother’s best friend. Naturally snarky hotness ensues.

Off Limits @floralseokjin is basically a famous entry when it comes to this trope. It’s a Jin fic and Miss Jordan writes EXQUISITE Jin characterizations. There is a hint of mistaken (or unknown) identity in this one which makes it even more fun. Sparks fly between you and a devilishly charming Kim Seokjin at a party. You don’t find out until later who he really is—and why he’s off limits.

And finally I’ll recommend my own Brother’s Best Friend fic All I Want for Christmas is You featuring a charming Taehyung who falls for Jimin’s sister. Jimin basically blackmails his best friend into escorting his sister to several holiday galas. Tae and Jimin’s sister have never gotten along, but they soon discover (through multiple pranks and mishaps) that love (and desire) are out of their control.

Not Your Fairytale by @yeojaa is incredibly sweet and tender. Erin really does emotion so well and her Yoongi characterization is honestly so nuanced and brilliant. This story is about a girl who had her heart broken and instead of canceling the cake tasting she scheduled with her philandering ex-fiancé, she wrangles the tsundere best friend of her brother to pretend to be him.

Brother’s Best Friend by @bts-hyperfixation is a short and sweet moment between two people who have been fighting their attraction for each other. It is so hot and delicious I tell you. You’re in trouble and the person you call is probably the person you shouldn’t—but you aren’t the only one willing to take a risk tonight.

Off Limits by @kaddiiction will break your heart and put it back together again. This one was recommended to me by a reader and I cannot thank them enough. It is fantastic. Jimin is a player but he crosses the line when he begins a liaison with his best friend’s sister. Still there is far more to this situation—and Jimin—than meets the eye.

꧁Best Friend’s Brother꧂

Orectic by @gimmesumsuga is one of my favorite fics of all time. It is a hybrid fic where the reader is a cat hybrid and Hoseok is the brother of her best friend who comes to stay with her while her bestie is away... It is so tender yet SO HOT. I’m telling you I cannot even keep count of how many times I have read it.

Theophany by @ilikemesometaetaes was a JOURNEY. It made me so emotional. Like the story centers around art a lot, but let me tell you, this fic IS art. Jimin is just the man of my whole dreams in this piece as the brother of a former best friend with an irresistible allure. It is a coming of age story with the most beautiful twist. AND THE LOVE SCENE—oh my gosh I screamed it was so good. This story is just so so good.

Run by @neonlights92 is Jungkook’s story in the mafia universe I am COMPLETELY OBSESSED WITH. You don’t have to read the whole series to understand it (BUT YOU SHOULD). This is best friend’s brother meets arranged marriage and honestly it’s fantastic. Jungkook doesn’t do love and affection and being forced into an arranged marriage with his sister’s friend who has always had a crush on him is just a blow to his freedom... or is she? GAH! This story—like all the stories in this universe—is superb.

The Magic to Happiness by @readyplayerhobi is a best friend’s brother meets teachers AU meets Hogwarts AU. Now... all of those are top tier tropes so finding them together is like winning the lottery. Hobi was once just a skinny kid who had obvious heart eyes for you (his sister’s best friend) but now he’s tall and confident and really attractive. The magic of this story is evident in every word of the sweet relationship that blooms between these two.

Problem with You by @monvante is so sweet and kind of hilarious. I giggled so much! Jungkook is your best friend’s brother and he is kind of too perfect and too handsome and he’s always around and you hate him and he hates you... Right? When you cross paths with the infuriating Jeon Jungkook at your best friend’s wedding, you discover that you may have been wrong about a great many things.

Show Me Yours and I’ll Show You Mine by @ktheist is so so SO fabulous. I was obsessed with this (now complete) series from the very first installment. You and Tae are besties who have know each other since you were little kids, but lately Tae’s older brother Jin has been lookin mighty fine. Just how far can you push him till he breaks. And if he breaks.... what then?

Title : Jon’s downright ridiculous shooting case ( Jon’s Mysteries )

Author : AJ Sherwood

This book and the series itself is PURE GOLD. It keeps getting better and better and I honestly can’t wait for more installments of this story. So, here we have Jon ( Jonathan Bane ) who works with the police as a human lie detector— using his gift as a Psychic. He can tell a lot about a person because he’s able to see their Aura. He fries any electronics near him, he has to wear sunglasses & he has no Anchor to ground his powers which is always on. Then he meets Donovan Havili who is assigned as his partner/bodyguard and he’s never seen someone as bright as him. They work together on cases and IT’S SO GOOD. I love how Donovan just slides into Jon’s life and makes all those “quirks” feel natural, like it’s not Jon’s fault and it’s okay. His psychic ability is amazing and the Mystery aspect kept me guessing. 👍🏻 This book honestly has everything I want : ✔️ Paranormal ✔️ Protective boyfriends ✔️ Found family ✔️ Explicit scenes that comes from a nice build up ✔️ MUTUAL PINING ✔️ Mystery. Please give this a go. There is also a spin off and that one is A+ too.

Title : Felix and the Prince ( Forever Wilde Series )

Author : Lucy Lennox

Oh boy. If you like a bit of Drama, relationship issues, finding yourself brouhaha & explicit scenes then this series is for you. It’s a guilty pleasure kind of read and I wasn’t able to stop from book 1 down to the last. The books can be read as standalones but it’s much better if you know all the people popping up here and there. This one is my Favorite, Felix & The Prince. All because of the Commoner/Royalty trope that just never fails to fascinate me. So Felix goes to this remote island who is famous for their Stained glass and to study it. Aside from that, he’s really trying to run away from the public as his Mom’s ( who abandoned him ) blockbuster movie is coming up as he hates being in the spotlight. There he meets Lio in one of the secret rooms he accidentally finds and from there, well. 😍😍😍 These characters feel very real and their emotions read well to me as an outsider. I just love the being stuck in that place and both of them having no other choice but to fall in love. Also the whole DRAMA of how they can make it work despite all the issues is a big part of what makes their story better.

Title : Be still my Heart ( Four Kings Kings Security series )

Author : Charlie Cochet

All the books in this series is worth a read, definitely. It’s just that I really loved Laz and Red’s side-relationship from Book 1 and so when they had their own story with Book 2 it was an instant favorite. Red is an ex navy SEAL and now working as a security detail while Laz is a fashion photographer. This book opens with Red off work as he recovers from being shot and seeing Laz doing a shoot. Then someone opens fire, clearly targeting Laz and so the whole story is the two of them in close quarters and coming to terms with their relationship. They are so sweet together! 😭 and the explicit scenes are scorching omg! The mystery part on figuring out who is plotting against Laz was cool too ; I thought it was this guy, but then it’s not until that last moment when the mastermind is revealed. 😳

Title : Breaking Magic

Author : J Brenton Parker

There’s this trope that is very hard to come by in books because of how specific it is. It’s the Draco Malfoy/Harry Potter trope. This books has it all and I couldn’t be happier. You have a magic school, the chosen one and his nemesis & a whole lot of adventure. Adam Wolfe is a ticking bomb. He is the most powerful magician of his time who doesn’t even know how to use it. He can’t use a wand, can’t maintain a spell, and when he does- it results into a catastrophe. When he almost burns down the whole school and has a group of rebels interested him + the threat of his magic being stripped away, here comes someone he never got along with FELIX ROTH. Oooohhh how I love this character. 💜 So he goes to Adam and tells him he can help with controlling his powers but they have to get Merlin’s staff. And the rest of the story is just wonderful. Ugh. Soft boys, magic, adventure & good vs evil all in one book. God. Read this one please. This book needs more love.

Title : To Have It All

Author : Jill Wexler

This book is short & sweet and the right pick for a cozy sunday. Mild angst and so much fluff. This is my first bestfriends to lovers book and this one just nails it. Brett and Jordan have been friends for more than 2 decades, and yes there are times they have looked at each other in a non-platonic way ; but they both shut it down as their friendship is too important. Then Brett’s sister and brother in law dies in a car accident leaving their 4 kids to his care. Jordan helps him take care of the kids and setup himself up with this new life. Everything about this was so sweet! The domesticity and them seeing each other in different light at the right time. Just the inevitability of them being together after all those years as friends left me with all the feels. Ahhhhh~ ❤️

gen Z dating rant

Day 1,345,216 of sitting in my narcissistic despair comes to a close. As I gear up for month seven of sobriety I find it difficult to find daily activities that tickle my fancy. Hence my new found stimulation: the validation that comes from the temptation of procreation. In layman's terms; tinder, bumble, and other rectifying outlets that make a man feel wanted. Take this as Jordan's review of dating in the twenty first century if you will. Or take it as a guide to dating in the twenty first century if you may. I really don't give a fuck.

I took pride in never using an app to get laid for the majority of my sex life. I'm not being over zealous (okay, maybe I am). My nerves and "butterflies" were extinguished around the seventh grade. As a precursor I lost my virginity at 15, got head for the first time at 14, and had my first kiss at 5. I believe the kiss was my lady cousin. Whatever. I'm a sex addict, a dope fiend, a true "anything that produces an effect" fiend. I'm obsessive, possessive, and contradictory. I have expectations out the ass for everyone around me yet expect them to have no preexisting expectations involving my actions.

So goes my whole life. For as long as I can remember I've had a disconnection to love. Really human beings in general. For as long as I can remember I haven't felt "love" for my parents or anyone for that matter. So I was a sheep in the heard when it came to saying I love you to those I guess Im expected to love. Like I said im a sex addict. It is what it is. So what. Who gives a fuck. Ask my ex lovers and they'll tell you something completely different. I do what I want when I want. That means sex. So before we really dig into this 21st century idea of dating, please if you're a feminist who wears "power in the pussy" t-shirts and flaunts your titties with tassels on main street, yes, even you may be able to get something out of this. So lets dig in.

I'm old school. Even on these fucking apps ill get horny around 12/1am and start asking these validation seekers if they'd like to grab a drink and every time they have some excuse. "Oh its too late", "I don't know you like that", or my personal favorite "I'm already in bed…tomorrow?". Are you fucking kidding me. I've been. Banned on all major platforms several times for slick and sly comments. But this brings us to the hook of the article which is validation problems within generation z. Now lets make this clear I'm not supporting underage drinking but yes I have offered to buy ladies underage a drink. (Key word: offered) I get it. Having a dating app on your phone is as common as having uber, if you put two and two together with that one lets make a baby. But if you have a dating app put in your god forsaken bio (which no one reads) that you're only on it for the validation. So what do I mean by Validation.. Validation (in this case)- the act of ones presence or aesthetic presence being confirmed. In other words- you think I'm sexy and you confirm this affirmation by swiping right on my profile or seeing that I have a new match from so and so, even though I may find nothing in their bio or pictures attractive, the thought of " I could sleep with them if I wanted to" arises. Temptation+Procreation=Validation. The issue with the topic of validation is woman (men as well (I'm not gay but I know men purge this sin as well)) put a profile up on these apps in order to receive attention that their significant other is no longer providing. I'm guilty of this. In fact, I did this while in a three long relationship. She was no longer pleasing the part of my brain that says "oh yes, Jordan, she thinks you're sexy and that is enough". So I put up a bumble and tinder profile and got off on the fact that I had all these matches and girls messaging me with their shitty pick up lines (My personal favorite: Are you a spy? Because I could see you under covers) and need for validation themselves. And it was a balancing act at first. It really was. But the validation was enough. I did however feel like a piece of shit for having to delete the apps right before we would hangout. It is what it is. I dont give a fuck. I got over that guilt faster than I did a shot of dope or a bad sexual encounter. All I'm saying is if you're on a dating app and you swipe right and you don't say anything, then fuck you. Stop wasting everyone's time with some beautiful picture and some bullshit and don't reply cause you're on the bullshit. Us single people don't have time to waste on high expectations just to be let down with a no response or a typical "I'm tired I'm going to stay in tonight". Please. If you're one of those people fuck you and your boyfriend who isn't putting out for you.

Another pattern I've noticed is this trial period involving digital communication. As many times as I've messaged a lady and asked her to grab dinner with me and gotten the response, " I don't know you like that. But we can chat for a while and than Ill let you know". The fucked up thing about this is every person who says this has some sort of very provocative picture.

(brief note that my main qualifications when I was looking for books, besides not wanting YA, was that 1. they were not about straight cis white men and/or 2. they had particular appeal to one of the areas of sf&f that I have a particular fondness for and/or 3. they cost under five bucks. so there’s a lot of diverse lit, and a lot of novellas, and a lot of urban fantasy wizards who are also detectives/rebellious angels and or demons/necromancy/dragons/stuff that is explictly Lovecraftian adaptations but takes the piss out of Lovecraft/anything on this list/anything published by Tor)

the Lovelace & Wick series by Jennifer Rainey – this is the Demon Husbands one I’ve been yelling about. Two gentleman demons in love – a Faustian tempter and a bringer of catastrophes – are growing increasingly dissatisfied with the work they do for hell, while also being forced to contend with new and dangerous enemies. Set in a vaguely-steampunk 1890s Massachusetts. Also includes monster-hunting steampunk scientist lesbian wives.

Deadline by Stephanie Ahn – fourteen months after a disastrous failed ritual, disgraced blood witch Harrietta Lee gets offered a ridiculously lucrative job quietly recovering a stolen artifact for a young member of a powerful magical family, and promptly finds out that this is too good to be true. Also she keeps meeting scary, hot women. Instantly the only wisecracking urban fantasy PI named Harry that my heart has any room for. (This one’s a bit Spicier than my usual fare but the author actually includes a list of content warnings including page numbers at the front of each book, which you can view with the preview option on the Amazon page.)

Hammers on Bone by Cassandra Khaw – A kid hires London PI John Persons to kill his stepfather. The first catch is that the stepfather is a Lovecraftian horror. The second catch is that Persons is too. This is like, the noir-est horror I’ve ever read and that’s something I am very into.

The Haunting of Tram Car 015 by P. Djeli Clark – An urban fantasy police procedural set in an alternate 1912 Cairo, in which two government officials are sent to deal with a strange, malevolent spirit in the midst of political upheaval as Egypt’s women demand universal suffrage. There’s a free short story prequel to this on tor.com called “A Dead Djinn in Cairo“ that’s worth reading first.

Three Parts Dead by Max Gladstone – high fantasy with a black protagonist, in which Tara Abernathy, a disgraced magic user and rookie associate in an internationally renowned necromancy firm, is assigned to resurrect a city’s murdered patron fire god – but first, with the help of a chain-smoking priest and a vampire-addicted servant of Justice Herself, she has to track down his killer.

River of Teeth by Sarah Gailey – in an alternate history where the 1910 “Hippo Bill” passed, Winslow Remington Houndstooth, an ex-rancher out for revenge, is hired to travel north with a ragtag crew – a con artist and pickpocket, a demolitions expert with a proclivity for poisoning, the most dangerous contract killer in the country, and the very man who ruined his life – and take on the dangers of the massive swamp that was once the Mississippi river, a place ruled over by deadly feral hippos and a homicidal riverboat gambling king.

or, essentially, a swamp-based heist Western with a cast including a British-East Asian bisexual man, a black nb person, an unashamedly fat woman, and a pregnant Latina lesbian, and also their pet hippos. Listen just go ahead and get the version with both stories in it

Silver in the Wood by Emily Tesh – Tobias has lived in the woods as long as anyone can remember; long enough that the nearby town tells stories of the Green Man, the spirit-king of the forest, who dwells in the trees. These stories are truer, and far more dangerous, than anyone but Tobias knows – so when friendly, handsome, curious Henry Silver buys up the neighboring Greenhollow Hall and starts investigating the local folklore, Tobias will have to decide whether to sacrifice the only life he has known for centuries, or the first person he has loved in all that time.

not-new books that I have read:

idk if you don’t know about the Wayfarers series, the first of which is The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet, but it is an absolutely stellar bit of sci-fi very much based around ideas of found family and discovering your own identity and place in the universe and love and compassion and stories based around sweet slice-of-life stuff in a scifi universe with lots of fun aliens and it is so very queer and so very heartwarming and all three books (which each have different casts, although the characters in all three are connected to one another and sort of cameo across all the books) are fantastic.

Urban Dragon by J.W. Troemner – Dragons are supposed to be ruthless, unpredictable, deadly, selfish creatures. So why is it that Rosa Hernandez seems to be able to keep her best friend Arkay in check? How did Arkay, a shape-changing dragon with lightning at her command, end up being found alone and starving and with no memory of her past by a homeless woman? And as evidence mounts that someone is hunting down supernatural beings, who can they trust? (I stumbled across this while looking for urban fantasy on TV Tropes and BOY am I glad I did. Good if you like close friendships between queer women or the enemies-to-lovers trope)

The Merry Spinster by Daniel Mallory Ortberg – of course I was going to read Daniel Ortberg’s short story collection, are you kidding me. Not “””darker””” fairy tale retellings, but fairy tales as often very surreal, psychological horror. Read this if you want to totally ruin “The Velveteen Rabbit” for yourself.

The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker – historical fantasy set in the early-20th-century Orthodox Jewish and Middle Eastern immigrant communities of NYC, about the strange friendship that springs up between a bitter jinn trapped in a mortal body and a masterless golem living among humans. and it gave me feelings.

The Ballad of Black Tom by Victor LaValle – a retelling of H.P. Lovecraft’s short story “The Horror at Red Hook” from the perspective of a black man. One of the better pieces of horror I have ever read.

Lovecraft Country by Matt Ruff – a very different take on a similar concept to The Ballad of Black Tom, wherein a mid-century black Midwestern family find themselves mixed up in the plans of a bunch of cultists and set out to disentangle themselves from this whole cosmic-horror mess. Apparently Jordan Peele is adapting this into a TV show, so I’m stoked for that.

Rupert Wong, Cannibal Chef by Cassandra Khaw – Apparently several authors have written standalone works in this series, and Cassandra Khaw’s aren’t chronologically the first, but I love Cassandra Khaw and “chef for ghouls and pencil-pusher for the Ten Chinese Hells is forced to solve an inter-pantheon murder mystery” just sounds so good to me.

Bones and Bourbon by Dorian Graves – Cursed half-huldra PI is forced to help out his little brother and the demon who shares his body, and then everything goes wrong. Feat. carnivorous unicorns.

Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Cordova – reluctant bruja attempts to rid herself of her magic and instead plunges her entire family into magical trouble. YA.

Robbergirl by S. T. Gibson – WLW retelling of The Snow Queen from the perspective of the bandit princess. YA.

Passing Strange by Ellen Klages – slightly-fantastical historical lesbian noir novella set in the burgeoning 1940s gay club scene in San Francisco.

The Black Tides of Heaven by JY Yang – admittedly caught my eye because the cover art reminded me of Moribito, which I adore. East-Asian-inspired epic fantasy which I believe has a nonbinary protagonist.

Rosemary and Rue by Seanan McGuire – I’ve been neglecting getting around to October Daye way, way too long considering how much I love Seanan McGuire and urban fantasy, but my mom started reading this and that pushed me over the edge because damn it, yes I want to read her take on the Wizard Detective genre that I have such a weakness for.

The Traitor Baru Cormorant by Seth Dickinson – this was recommended to me in a Tumblr post listing interesting, diverse fantasy, and I’ve been into high fantasy political intrigue lately.

The Paper Magician by Charlie N. Holmberg – came across this in a Twitter thread about fantasy worlds with unconventional and interesting magic systems. A newly graduated student of magic is bitter about being sent to learn paper-crafting magic rather than working with metal, until Murder Stuff Happens. YA.

Miranda in Milan by Katharine Duckett – queer fantasy sequel to The Tempest, with Miranda as protagonist.

Witchmark by C. L. Polk – post-WWI gaslamp fantasy MLM romance about a male witch in hiding, working as a doctor; the reviews seem to indicate people think it’s more ‘delightful’ than ‘literary’ but apparently it is pretty fucking delightful.

In the Vanisher’s Palace by Aliette de Bodard– East Asian WLW retelling of Beauty and the Beast and also one of them is a dragon.

Winter Tide by Ruthanna Emrys – another one of the rash of new Lovecraft adaptations that are turning perspectives around, this being one where the citizens of Innsmouth are the protagonists. Also has a really good short story prequel you can read for free on tor.com.

also I just feel like mentioning that I’m stupidly excited for Gideon the Ninth by Tamsin Muir to come out this fall because the review they’ve decided to put at the top of every blurb is “Lesbian necromancers explore a haunted gothic palace in space!” (not my exclamation mark) and I don’t know how anyone could more perfectly craft something to my tastes.

Hello! I’ve been looking for some good books to read and was wondering if you had any recommendations? I seem to just wander around the bookstore not knowing where to start.

I confess I’ve been reading nothing but fics on fics on fics (Drarry exclusively lol) for a good year now, so I haven’t touched original works in ages, though I have several of the latest installments of my favorite series waiting until I run out of good Drarry fic... (please...god...free me from this hell........)

I’ve made several recommendations for excellent M/M original works (you can always check out my reccs tag for any recommendations as well, though it includes original novels as well as manga and fic). I pretty much only read M/M fantasy (with the very VERY occasional M/M scifi or supernatural book thrown in), so I hope that’s what you’re looking for XD

Here’s a “””””””brief””””””” recap of series I particularly enjoy and go back to reread often, along with details on who might like these books and why. They’re all available via Amazon (most as Kindle reads, but some as paperbacks; some are also available from other sources as well in other formats if you prefer, for example, epub) and at reasonable prices (all but one series are under $10 per book, some under $5).

Read this if you like... magic and science working together, religion-borne racism and the difficulties of interracial as well as interreligious relationships, snarky aristocrats and a good mystery. And read the second book in the series definitely if you liked Yokozawa Takafumi no Baai or Sore Nari ni Shinken nan desu (I've found I really like stories where the rejected third-party from the main series gets his own happy ending, and Book 2 of this series is one such, building an entire new couple with the midway-through-the-story return of Book 1 couple so you get the best of both worlds.)

Read this if you like...magic and 19th century UK settings and snarky aristocrats who guard their hearts fiercely. The dynamic is fantastic, and the writing itself is gorgeous.

Read this if you like... phenomenal skill with the written word (I mean REALLY TOP NOTCH), fantastic characters with real evolution in relationships, amazingly intricate political intrigue (guaranteed to keep you guessing the whole way), enemies-to-friends-to-"I think if I gave you my heart, you would treat it tenderly"-to-...well, I won't spoil things 8D Please note the 'slavery' aspect that is heavily featured in Book 1. There is NO RAPE between the main characters, but there are forced sexual scenes between Damen and another minor character (n.b. minor as in not major, not minor as in a kid), and well, Laurent just isn't a very kind 'master', nor does he pretend to be. This is not your typical 'omg the slave falls in love with the master and vice versa!!' dreck, but do be aware that the first book deals intimately with those themes as Damen must play his part.

Wytch Kings series, by Jaye McKenna - [GOODREADS BLURB: (Summary of Book 1) "Prince Garrik is the Heir Presumptive of Altan, next in line to be crowned Wytch King. Read if you like... DRAGON SHIFTERS. There's really not much more I can say to encourage you to read this series (there are five so far!) other than to say HERE THERE BE DRAGONS, AND LOTS OF THEM, AND HOT GUYS WHO TRANSFORM INTO THEM. The plots are interwoven, with side characters from previous books showing up as MCs in subsequent ones, so you get to see major characters fleshed out, even if not right away.

Mermen of Ea series, by Shira Anthony - [GOODREADS BLURB: (Summary of Book 1) "Taren Laxley has never known anything but life as a slave. After finding out about your boyfriend’s infidelity, you seek after his lover’s boyfriend, cause mama always told you that sweets are better when shared. But first, you need to convince him to join you.

Saying that your phase ‘pos-breakup’ was changing you was probably an overstatement. You were pretty much the same girl. You changed? Yes. But not really, if that even makes sense.

It took you a few hours thinking about it after the whole chaos passed to make you realize what they meant when they said: “breakups are new chapters”. Life was full of chapters, each one leading you to a grand finale.

At least you thought that the moment you ended things with Jordan. A new person, making changes and growing up.

You were changing, yes, but you still had the same dreams and ideas. You would smile to the same things that used to make you smile. You still felt like there were butterflies at your stomach sometimes.

“I want to study another language.” You told your parents the morning after the breakup. And then you told them that you already found a school for it. They never looked prouder than that day.

You were trying and challenging yourself. You were growing, not only maturing but improving yourself.

“We should ask Taehyung to bring something takeover.” You father said, without moving his eyes from the news on TV. “How about Chinese food?”

“I prefer pizza.” Your mom said, by your side on the sofa, pausing the fruity game she was playing.

That was Taehyung’s first day at Emes Publishing House and you were so proud of your brother, and so were your parents.

But that didn’t make you less excited.

Your parents knew you were seeing someone else right after ending things with your ex, but they haven’t met him. And Jungkook was coming with your brother. Not that your parents knew yet.

A smile appeared in your face just because of the thought of him.

Jungkook was great for you, comprehensive of taking things slowly but also being a constant presence the last month.

You took two days before calling him. You wanted to be sure you were making the right decision. Not that you doubted your each-day-growing-more feelings for him, but you were not sure if jumping into another relationship was right for you at that moment.

At first, you were afraid of what people would think. What your friends could think!

But the second day, you couldn’t wait anymore. You missed him.

So what if you were pushing things too fast and way too hard? If Jungkook was so sure about his decision, you could be too. After your fiasco with Jordan, you knew that heartbreak was nothing careless.

“What?” You ask, surprised, only know to notice your parents were staring you.

“We were only wondering…” Your father mutes the tv before saying it.

“Why would you be so dressed up for a dinner at home.” Your mom finishes the sentence. The fruity game no longer seen at her cellphone's screen. “You don’t have the excuse of work anymore”.

“Ah. It’s just, we never know who might show up with Taehyung”.

When the door was opened, you felt like saved by the bell. By the look in your mother’s face, you knew she was pretty pissed at you.

But your relief soon vanished, seeing your brother standing next to the door, alone, with his pizza box.

Taehyung just motioned outside with his head, and as quick as you could, you went there, finding Jungkook scratching his hands, walking back and forth.

“Is there something wrong?” You whisper, worried about him. What if he decided to regret being with you the last minute?

“No, I’m just…” He moved his hands to take his bangs from his eyes. “I’m nervous. I’m meeting your parents. Taehyung told me they are not expecting me”.

A smile emerged on your face.

“That’s sweet and all, but the pizza is getting cold, let’s get inside”.

“How can you be so confident? I’m sweating”.

You look at his eyes, those brown and deep iris. Gosh, you were so in love with him that you felt like jumping around as if you were a kid.

“I’m super nervous too.” You touch his smooth skin, Jungkook is clean-cut this day, as handsome as the first day you met him. “It’s just, I’m excited too. Thrilled. I want them to like you, and I know they will”.

He still looked hesitant. Where did all his confidence go?

“Jungkook, we faced much worst than my parents. I can’t accept that you’re gonna chicken out now. We’ve come so far.” You looked at him, pretending to be disappointed, but by his looks, you realized he was being serious. “They will love you. You’re great. The perfect son-in-law”.

“You sure we’re not going too fast?”

You didn’t feel like you needed to answer his question. Of course, you were. And if, for some unknown reason, you were not, you would have to be. You needed to be impulsive sometimes. That had already lead you to great achievements.

Your head is moving, nodding, before you realize, your smile only growing bigger.

“Kiss me then. Give me some of your courage”.

“As you wish”.

His mouth felt like heaven. So soft and… Kissable. God, you loved kissing him, moving your hands through his dark hair, pulling it and leaning your body against his. You could kiss him the whole day and not get tired of it. Well, you actually did it before, so you knew first-hand it was true.

“You’re both lucky that I decided to come to call you instead of dad.”

Feeling like a kid that got caught, you step away from your boyfriend, ashamed. You could sense your lips swollen.

When you finally decided to spy Taehyung’s face, he was already inside the house, left with the door open wide. His way to tell that next time wouldn’t be him calling you.

“Was that enough?” You offer your hand to Jungkook, smiling at him.

Hesitating for a moment, a shy smile appeared at his face when he took your hand.

“Kissing you is never enough”.

1 / he is born number three of four children and the world around him is exceptionally quiet. it’s not as if he notices, however. what he does notice is getting in trouble far more than his siblings, finding himself yelled at more than them, sent to bed without supper more than them, but he can’t work out why. in fact, he only starts to notice something is wrong when he’s taken to a doctor at four years old. there’s too many tests and his little ears hurt afterwards but they realise he’s deaf. he’s not a rude little boy at all -- he just can’t hear them.

2 / as a little prince growing up, claudio lives a relatively peaceful life. he’s a big lover of stories, just like his mother, which leads him to books. loving to tell stories leads him to a life of dance. he’s an excellent little ballet dancer, actually, which takes his whole family by surprise. terribly ungraceful in his real life, claudio is effortless whilst dancing, even when he’s little. it’s a gift that transfers into other areas -- movement is a skill that allows him to speak. he picks up signing and invests his time in the deaf community.

3 / he has a special teacher to tutor him on deaf culture on top of his regular education, he dances six times a week, he fences, he reads, he tells stories to children at deaf schools. despite the pressure on him from his parents and the kingdom and himself, he is doing his part as a good and noble prince. he is doing good and it feels good. unfortunately for claudio, sweet as he is, he is incredibly naive and easily wrapped up -- he loves to tell romance stories, love stories, sickly sweet disgusting stories, and so when a slightly older man comes into the picture, claudio cannot help but get swept up in the rush of it all.

4 / when it ends, as inevitably it does, he completely breaks claude’s heart. his entire world falls apart, really, and it takes him a long time to put himself back together. he loses all interest in dance and books and speaking ( relying purely on sign, with no interest in speaking english at all ), and instead spends all his time curled up in his room suffering. he’s a big romantic and so a broken heart really hurts him. as time passes, he slowly emerges out of his room and back into the world, still naive but much more wary about love this time.

5 / now twenty four, claude is trying his best to keep his life together and to stop himself from falling apart. his mental health is trying to get the better of him, but here he is, studying law, getting back into dance, returning to telling stories to deaf schools and pushing for more accessibility. princely things. good things. and god, god -- he wants to be good. he needs to be good, because being passable isn’t enough. being okay isn’t enough. he is the son of belle and adam and he is a prince and he has to be good. he just hopes the pressure isn’t becoming too much.

We Play Our Parts So Well

prompt: bellamy and clarke are actors on a tv show. theyre love interests but are also dating irl and they have to shoot their first sex scene together. they get it on either during (unknowingly to others) or after the shoot for anonymous

There are countless things wrong with having your co-stars head between your thighs. Especially if it’s done off-camera, in the casual setting of his apartment, with the spicy taste of Italian red wine lingering like a promise at the tip of her tongue. Bellamy, of course, ate her out vigorously until she grasped at the sheets like a lifeline, and now his character, Julian Amerada, has to do the same to hers. And Clarke has to pretend, for the sake of self-preservation, that she doesn’t know what it feels like.

In the hit NBC TV-series Embers, Clarke plays the role of Cassandra Tallion, a princess whose life is forever altered when she discovers what it’s like to be a warrior. And since the premiere of the show — the first scene she shared with Bellamy, more precisely — fans on Twitter (and virtually every other social media platform in existence) — have been screaming in all caps for them to just ‘SUCK FACES ALREADY ASDFGBSKCKXS’

Now, they’re finally going to get what they want. It’s been five seasons and the showrunner, Thelonius Jaha, has decided that it’s finally time to make Jassandra a thing — a canon thing.

Jasper Jordan, one of the special effect technicians, puts sugar in his coffee (enough to kill a small animal), quirks up an eyebrow and looks from Bellamy to Clarke before stating the obvious, “The internet is gonna fucking explode when you guys finally get it on.”

For a moment, Clarke’s eyes flicker nervously to Bellamy’s. Oh god, she’s supposed to be an actress, but she can’t even keep her cool in this situation. Meanwhile, her very handsome and very forbidden boyfriend takes a sip of his Earl Grey tea (Miller loves to call him a ‘sophisticated bastard’ for that preference), looking at Jasper nonchalantly.

“Did I hear someone say ‘getting it on’?” Raven chimes in, walking towards their table to throw her arms around Clarke’s shoulders. “That’s my domain.”

At that, Clarke only chuckles. So does Bellamy. “Raven, the last time I checked, you were happily married to an ex-pilot by the name of Shaw.”

Flippantly, Reyes takes her best friend’s coffee mug to steal a sip, then winces at the taste when she realizes that it isn’t black. “Yeah, and we get it on all the time. But of course, you wouldn’t know about that now, would you, Griffin?” It’s a fair burn, but little does Raven know that it no longer rings true. Since Clarke started seeing Bellamy off set four months ago, she’s had more orgasms than she had during all of last year.

“Have you read the script?” Harper McIntyre joins them. She plays Amelia, Cassandra’s stepsister, who is trying to overthrow her own father’s regime. “It’s cunnilingus, right?”

Jordan chuckles, “Oh please, Harper. You read all of it just like the rest of us,” and when Clarke looks at him, her brow furrowed in confusion, he continues, “Every single one of us is on team Jassandra. It’s no secret.”

As Clarke looks around the table, everyone — including Miller — nods, and Murphy even confesses to buying merch from Ebay, which leaves the rest of them shook. Still, his only explanation is, “What can I say? Some of this fanart is pretty fucking cool.”

Well, you can’t argue with that. Every time Clarke logs on to Twitter, her mentions are full of beautiful art pieces and gifs that people have made of the show (someone even wrote a song for Jassandra once). It warms her heart and makes her smile each day knowing that there are so many talented, passionate fans out there.

Episode 5x07 of Embers is called ‘The Land We March For’, and they’re shooting some of it tomorrow morning, including the already notorious love scene in Cassandra’s bedchamber in Marble Castle. Feeling a bit nervous about the whole ordeal, Clarke decides to abandon the table and take a look at the set, which has been prepared for the shoot tomorrow.

There are candles everywhere, ready to be lit and the bed has been covered in furs. It looks beautiful, but Clarke still has to swallow the lump in her throat.

“You alright?”

Smiling, Bellamy puts a hand to her shoulder. He must’ve followed her here, and she instantly appreciates it. For some reason, she always feels more at ease when she’s around him, and even though having to do her first love scene on screen is still incredibly daunting, she’s so glad that he will be there with her.

“Yeah… Just a bit nervous,” she confesses after a minute.

In comfort, he places his hand on her shoulder, caressing it with his thumb. “Trust me, I get that.”

Unlike her, Bellamy has done a love scene on Embers before, although it was a short flashback one between Julian and his deceased lover, Karolina. “Whatever,” she says, exhaling. “We’ll just have to kill this scene, you know? The viewers deserve something great. Our characters deserve it. We just need to do it justice.”

In fact, it was partly with the viewers and their characters in mind that Bellamy and Clarke asked for some of the script for the scene to be altered. Originally, Cassandra was supposed to beg Julian to ‘ravish her’, but that seemed non-consensual and out of character, so they made sure that the line was changed to ‘make love to me’.

“I can’t wait to see the fan reaction.”

“Jasper’s right. People are gonna lose their shit.”

(Certainly, they are not wrong…)

Just before they start filming the scene the next morning, Clarke tweets a row of cryptic emojis along with the hashtags #EmbersTV and #BigDay. Smirking, she joins Bellamy on the set of Cassandra’s bedchamber, and even though they both look very much in character, they have one last ritual as Bellamy and Clarke before they start shooting.

They hug. For a long time…

It’s nice, not only because of the obvious reasons, but it also seems to strengthen their connection, so that the chemistry continues to be — as according to @TheTheloniusJaha on Twitter — on fire. When this ritual started two years ago, the showrunner found it so special that he posted a picture of it to the Internet, and to say the fandom went nuts would be an understatement. “Are you okay?” Bellamy murmurs once they pull away from each other, his eyes as soft as the rain-soaked Earth, and she just barely resists the desire to kiss him. Instead, she nods, determined. Then they go to their assigned marks just before Thelonius Jaha roars, “ACTION!”

Cassandra’s hair is still wet from a bath, so she’s wringing it out when Julian emerges from the shadows, his ripped shirt exposing the blossoming bruises on his chest. She gasps, stepping forward to reach for him, but he takes a step back. His midnight sky eyes have lost their stars as they flash with an emotion she can’t identify. “I’m a monster, Princess,” he proclaims.

She ignores it. “I told you not to call me that.”

Without looking at her, he bursts into laughter, almost hysterical. The horror of battle has started to feast on his soul, on his heart and it threatens to tear her apart, seeing him like this. “Julian, please…” She can tell that he wants to look at her, because he clenches his jaw.

“I thought I was angry when I heard about Bhoran asking for your hand in marriage, Your Highness, but how can I be? I will never be good enough for you. I could never give you the life you want.”

Once he’s said that, the blood boils in her veins and fire sparks within her ocean eyes. This time when she strides forward, she doesn’t let him back away. Instead, she crashes her mouth onto his, her lips violent and desperate…

Unbeknownst to their co-stars, Bellamy and Clarke have already kissed countless times, so even though their makeout sessions are a lot more relaxed than this, kissing is easy. But staying in character, however, that’s difficult. She can tell that Bellamy wants to soften the kiss, which he isn’t supposed to. He also buries his hand in her hair, going off script, but it likely won’t be a big deal.

Definitely not to the fans anyway… They will gush about this for months.

Julian breaks away to discover that her rage hasn’t evaporated completely. “Since when do you know what I want?” She hisses, even if her lower lip quivers with emotion. In front of her is the man who taught her to fight, to defy her father, to value her own ambition instead of being obedient. “I want you. All of you,” she states, tearing at his ruined shirt until the material falls off.

“Cassandra…” Finally, he says her real name, causing her eyes to shut briefly as desire strikes her harder. Still, his voice is barely audible, hidden by a veil of uncertainty, but she holds his gaze with the utmost determination as she maps his chest with her hands, the bruises too.

(Clarke takes the liberty of licking her lips a little, so that means Cassandra does as well)

“Make love to me.”

He stares for half a minute. “I can’t… You’re a—“

“Don’t say it!” When she turns her back to him, Julian can’t resist the temptation of undoing the buttons on her dress. In fact, he wants nothing more than to free her of that horrible corset. Leaning into his touch, she sighs. “Until morning, I am Cassandra, no more, no less… And I love you.”

One thing that the TV Scoop journalist Riley Peterson remarked in his first of many reviews on Embers was that the love scenes were graphic, just like in Game of Thrones, which had a bunch of horny white men flocking to the show only to be disappointed when they discovered that Embers is unapologetically feminist. Jaha even had this in mind when he chose the type of sex that Julian and Cassandra (his two leads) would be having.

(“Yeah, Cassandra’s father may be all about preserving medieval values, but Julian isn’t.”

When Jaha said that, Bellamy had winked at her discreetly, whispering, “Julian knows how to please a woman. We have so much in common.” For that comment, Clarke kicked teasingly at his shin under the table)

There’s a cut between Cassandra’s dress falling to the floor and the next scene where they’re in her bed, having sex, so they take a quick break to have some water. “We got this, right?”

Looking around to make sure nobody’s watching them, Bellamy presses a reassuring kiss to her temple, and she smiles in gratitude. Still, she’s unsure about something, so she decides to ask Bellamy for his two cents because he’s probably the person — right next to Jaha and herself — that knows the most about Cassandra as a character.

“How loud do you’d think she’d be?” When he raises his eyebrows, grinning, she swats at his arm. “It’s a genuine question, Bellamy.”

“I know. Sorry… I’m gonna say that she’s a woman, a virgin, who’s having oral sex with the man that she loves the most in the world, so… she’s probably loud. At the very least shook.”

Well, that part won’t be hard to play at all. The first time Bellamy went down on her, she was left speechless, feeling as if she were flying high above land with the stars surrounding her. Yes, it’d been that great, and luckily he’d felt the same way.

They’re smiling at each other when Jaha appears. “Sorry if I’m ruining a moment, but we gotta roll again.”

Showtime…

To get it right, Clarke tries to remember the stars that formed behind her eyelids when Bellamy licked into her for the first time, and it works. She cries out, clutching at his hair with one hand and at the sheets with the other. As her lips part, Bellamy presses an unscripted kiss to her inner thigh, which has her gasping. It’s a natural reaction, for her as well as Cassandra, so it really doesn’t matter, but she still feels self-conscious.

“You good?” Bellamy adlibs, and she nods frantically, managing a fake moan when he pretends to pick up the pace.

To be fair, the script doesn’t mention anything about Cassandra having an orgasm, but in the matter of two seconds, Clarke decides that yes, her character would definitely have one, so she does her job as an actress and fakes it. This is something that she’s never done with Bellamy before, which means that the production team will have to decide whether it’s convincing enough to keep in the final take.

“Beautiful,” once again, Bellamy adlibs, but he’s good at that, mostly because he has such a strong sense of Julian. Then he moves up her body to kiss her deeply, and when Jaha yells ‘CUT!’ it clearly takes all of his willpower to stop. Pulling back, he mimics ‘Later’ like a promise; his dark eyes alight with sparks.

Later in her dressing room, Clarke is alone and has just pulled out a Hershey’s cookies and cream bar as a reward for her sweet tooth when Bellamy walks in, hands buried in his pockets. A smile is blooming on her lips when she turns around to face him.

He starts, “You should improvise more. I know that’s usually my thing, but you’re really good at it.”

Feeling heat rush to her face at the compliment, Clarke admits, “Well, I’m not actually used to faking orgasms… I’ve only ever done it once.”

His brow furrows, and it’s most likely because of their five-year-long friendship that she understands why without having to ask. Therefore, she clears her throat, blushing harder. She feels like a teenager. “Not with you. I have an ex-boyfriend that I only slept with once before we broke up, and he really failed at getting me off.”

“Do you want me to get you off?”

“You just did,” she replies, her sassiness colliding with his bluntness in a way that makes him laugh. It’s her favorite sound, even better than jazz on a Sunday morning or a rainstorm pounding against her window…

“No. Julian got Cassandra off. We should celebrate. Jassandra’s canon, after all. ”

There are countless things wrong with having your co-stars head between your legs; especially it’s in an unlocked dressing room… Whatever. It’s too late to be sensible now, and if being sensible means that she can no longer date or have sex with Bellamy, she is choosing to be foolish.

“Oh, the things we do for fun,” she thinks out loud, the words emerging at the edge of a moan. Bellamy’s tongue is always able to give her earthquake-like orgasms that cause tremors to run through her body, the best of aftershocks. Laughing, she pulls him up to kiss the bronze stars on his forehead.

“Do you think we should tell the others about us?”

Her heart swells. This is getting really serious for him, too. “Yeah. When the time is right.”

As it turns out, the time is right on the night where the episode airs on national television, and Clarke has decided to invite the entire gang over to celebrate and watch live. Just when the love scene is about to start, Jasper mumbles around his slice of pizza, “This is my favorite part,” and everyone chuckles, but he is too fixated on the screen to notice.

Smiling a little shyly, Clarke walks to Bellamy while their friends are watching the scene unfold and sits down on his lap. Only when the scene is over, everyone turns to them (mostly because their phones are blowing up with Twitter notifications). Apparently the least shocked, Raven is the first person to make a comment, “Fucking finally. I knew all of that chemistry wasn’t there for nothing.”

“Reyes, you sound like a Twitter fangirl,” Miller notes, which earns him a pillow in the face.

But yeah, in Miller’s defense, she actually does:
