Project Moon Discourse Part Whatever: Statement 2
Project Moon's company twitter has released a statement on their perspective.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In summary, the Youth Union who has been rallying a lot of people has been protesting about Vellmori's "unfair dismissal" (firing over previous statements). Project Moon points out that they have not fired her yet, and the YU do not have concrete proof of what happened (AKA why you have to say "alleged" when commenting on crimes yet to be tried). Youth Union discusses the private circumstances and apologizes for repeating accusations as fact.
Kim Jihoon posits here that this was a political conspiracy by the Youth Union to boost their position (they were a very very small group before all this), which the Project Moon User Association must a part of. He posts the draft the Youth Union drew up if PM complied, without the union rep's permission as evidence. OK man.
...By the way, he also sent an official legal notice to the Project Moon User Association with that same info.
The PMUA says hey man! We do talk to the Youth Union, but we're actually a completely different group who has not declared jackshit as fact and have been conscientious in our speech. Fuck you! And posted the letter (legal threat) PM sent publicly along with their reply. (Jihoon references this in the statement above).
Read here. The letter is the pdf at the top of the doc.
It's through this response that we learn that the reason the Youth Union was cowed was because Vellmori resigned.
The PMUA notes: hey, isn't it extremely fucking suspicious that you publicly stated that due to breaking company rules with years old tweets (this isn't legal btw) and Vellmori's most recent statement was that you told her that she's getting her papers in a week (legal but asshole shit btw)? And yet when you're catching heat about the ludicrously illegal unjust firing, you reveal you've been hiding her resignation? Unrelated, why did you post an unfinished draft statement predicated on a round table that never occurred? Why are you threatening us for libel we never posted?
AKA they fucking ate him for dinner.
Kim Jihoon is being cooked alive over his notes app malding & pointed translated repost of his original statement. Everyone and their dog can see his sole deflection only really applies to the Youth Union, who fucked up publicly a while ago, while the PMUA is spotless in their conduct. The fact they have not done anything but ask the Youth Union for info - which they used responsibly thus far - renders literally every complaint Kim Jihoon is making totally worthless. And they made sure he fucking knew it. Meanwhile, the folks who originally kicked off harassment and boycotts (DCInside) remains uncommented on, enraging people even further.
By the way, you may be wondering why Kim Jihoon is suddenly so frenzied in his attacks. The thing is, PMUA just successfully met their fundraising goal! And wouldn't you know it, the money they raised is for applying to file a class action lawsuit over PM's mismanagement.
Stay tuned for more on Crossy News Network. I am too nosy to possibly stop reporting on this

bsd character design analysis ★
– part 1: borrowed clothing and its symbolism
word count: 1.3k
includes: dazai, beast dazai, akutagawa, ranpo, yosano
Tumblr media
1.) Dazai's Coat (PM vs ADA)
Following the Port Mafia tradition of giving a new subordinate a superior's item as a sign of loyalty, Mori gives Dazai his jacket upon his entrance into the mafia. Dazai never wears this coat correctly, instead draping it around his shoulders.
On the other hand, the coat he wears in the ADA is not only worn in the correct fashion, but it also closely resembles Odazaku's coat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The way Dazai wears his coat symbolizes where his loyalties lie. He was never loyal to the Port Mafia, or Mori himself. Hedoes takes on Mori's influence, specifically in his acts of getting something done no matter the means. Dazai does not mind playing dirty, and this follows Mori's own ideas of finding the most optimal solution. While I don't believe Mori is entirely the reason Dazai follows this path of action, it is clear that he did have some influence on Dazai with his teachings.
Dazai is loyal to the Armed Detective Agency, however, and goes to extreme measures for his comrades, including sacrificing himself in various ways. (Meursalt, dead apple, etc).
Going back to how his coat resembles Oda's, it gives light into Oda's influence on Dazai, that being him planting a moral seed in Dazai. His final request is for Dazai to strive to be a good person and not dwell along the dark side of humanity any longer. Oda is arguably one of the most important relationships Dazai has over the course of the series. He is the one who sets Dazai on a better path, and Dazai takes his words to heart. Otherwise, he would not have joined the Armed Detective Agency and found people he is loyal to.
2.) Beast Dazai
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Beast Dazai noticeably has the same scarf Mori does. This could be a signifier of position as the Port Mafia boss, but I believe it represents tactics that Beast Dazai learned from Mori. I am specifically talking about the control they both excise on others. In order for Beastzai's plan to work, he had to gain an almost absolute hold over the world immediately surrounding Oda. This is why it is mostly him, SSKK, and Oda whose lives are affected by his actions. Most everyone else's lives remain similar to the original BSD verse. The members of each organization are the same, is what I mean.
The iron grip that beast Dazai has over the Beast universe in order to reach his goal resembles the tactics Mori uses as the Port Mafia boss. Absolute control.
Beast Dazai's coat is another important factor. Unlike PM Dazai in the main BSD universe, beast Dazai wears his coat correctly and not around his shoulders. Beast Dazai is dedicated to his goal of securing a world where Oda can stay alive and freely write his novels. His loyalty is not to the Port Mafia, but that goal.
3.) Akutagawa's Coat
This is another item that follows the Port Mafia tradition and Dazai gives him his own coat on the night that he picks up Akutagawa from the slums.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Akutagawa's coat is a representation of his trauma and dependence on Dazai's recognition to live. His goal is to receive the recognition he never got from Dazai in the past, and this hinders his own development. While Akutagawa does not care about Dazai as a person, the effect Dazai's training had on him was creating a dependence on this approval.
His coat is his most important item for the greater majority of the series. He does not use his ability without it, and keeps it on at all times, which is another topic to discuss upon his coat/ability and protecting himself. In fact, he believes for a while that he can't use his ability without his coat, either, or that he is defenseless without it.
This changes during the Decay of the Angel's arc, specifically in the SSKK vs Fukuchi fight. In a pivotal moment, Akuatagwa discards his coat in order to aid Atsushi in delivering a powerful blow to Fukuchi. He uses Rashomon without his coat for the first time in this scene, too, which shows his growth as a character, and no longer relying so heavily on having to prove himself to Dazai for a reason to live. It is an example of him making his own choices and not being under the influence of Dazai's teachings onto him that he needed to prove himself useful, or that he is even useless in the first place.
Tumblr media
4.) Ranpo's Glasses
Tumblr media
Fukuzawa gives Ranpo an ordinary pair of glasses in the Untold Origins novel as a way to "control" his ability. Now, it is well established that these are a cheap pair, and that they are useless since Ranpo is not actually an ability user, however, the importance of it lies in Fukuzawa's influence on Ranpo, and the facade Ranpo subscribes to.
Fukuzawa is a figure that represents an integral point in Ranpo's life. Before the events of Untold Origins, Ranpo had no one in his life as a result of his parent's death. Fukuzawa is the first figure to step up for Ranpo and try to guide him, he is the sole reason Ranpo realizes he is not isolated in this world. This is important because Ranpo needs that at 14 years old. Fukuzawa is the cause if Ranpo's worldview changes, otherwise he would have continued to stray on his own uncertain path.
This also marks the beginning of Ranpo's attachment to being viewed as an ability user. He has an innate need to prove himself above the extraordinary because he cares about protecting the ones he values, namely the Agency. His resolve to be strong for his friends and family is strong, and this relates to the fact that he is so driven on remaining this image of an astounding man. He can't afford to lose his place in this light precisely because he is such an important piece of the Agency. The Agency was created because of Ranpo, after all, as a place for him to utilize his intellectual gift and to belong with Fukuzawa to.
His glasses tie back as a symbol of this in the Ranpo and Poe chapter (32). He loses his glasses while in Poe's ability space, and has a meltdown over the fact that he can't use his ability without them. It has also been established that Ranpo is self aware of his non-ability reality, yet he still clings to it because he needs to live up to that self standard, and his glasses are the object of this.
(I had images for this and yosano but Tumblr has a 10 image limit ://)
5.) Yosano and Her Butterfly Pin
There is a strong theme between life & death, and rebirth & transformation within Yosano's character.
Yosano gets her hair pin from Tachihara's older brother, who was a soldier in the "immortal army" unit under Mori's command. The way she acquires this hair pin is important because he represent a huge aspect of her trauma during this time, as the repeated abuse of her ability on him ended with his suicide. This time also cements her connection with life and death through her ability. She has the ability to control life and death itself, after all. Life is important to Yosano, this is established from her herself during her fight with Kaji through her comments on death is the lack of life, and the way she strives to save lives with her ability.
Butterflies serve as a symbol of metamorphosis, whether physical or emotional, and Yosano follows this theme well. She changes drastically as a person, as she does not let her past nor her ability connect her to that level of inhumanity she is pushed into by others' views. Golden butterflies specifically represent transformation, hope, or something along the lines of past souls as well, which fits with Yosano well.

The rays of the midday sun seep into a familiar room’s willowy curtains, gently hitting the chiming phone atop the desk near the windows.
Tumblr media
—multiple message notifications pop up on the lock screen under the name “sakiii”.
A hand quickly grabs the device and deft fingers immediately swipe at the notification block, typing up a reply as the phone unlocks.
While the phone continues to chime and replies and chats are exchanged, a mop of pink hair flutters as the owner of the mobile opens the room’s door, a happy skip in his step as he exits the dorm and walks out of the campus dormitories.
Yuuji had made plans with Kugisaki, Fushiguro, and Gojo-sensei last week—more like he was suddenly ordered to clear up his schedule without any preamble, but Yuuji didn’t care and just happily obliged because he originally didn’t have anything planned anyway. He wasn’t told why he needed to do so, though, so he was left to wander over to their meeting place without any context.
With a hum, Yuuji exits the chat interface and opens his phone’s map, finally reaching the exit of the campus.
As the warm outside air brushes over tan skin, his phone’s map then loads up directions to the place Yuuji inputted on the search bar. A series of left and right turns that looks akin to a maze pop into his view, and Yuuji prays that he won’t get lost following the guide.
When he takes a turn for the third time on the fourth intersection he’s passed, Yuuji is met with… a minor inconvenience: an old lady sprawled on the floor with fruits and vegetables littered around her.
With the time on his phone turning 1:05 PM, slowly nearing the supposed meeting time, Yuuji tilts his head in contemplation and takes a step.
——————————————
What should Yuuji do next? 1. Walk up to the old lady. OR 2. Turn around and look for another route.
POLL RESULTS: [Option 1] - 100% [Option 2] - 0%

PART ONE | NEXT

That's it for the first part!!! It's not much yet but,, well you will technically determine how the story goes so 🤷

2023 Updated Resolutions and Progress (September):
Be in bed every night by 9 PM.
Lose 5 pounds without resorting to disordered behaviors.
Read a minimum of 35 books by the end of the year. I'm currently at 29 books read.
I've listened to over 2500 bands this year, which means I've met my goal!
Learn Python. I took Code in Place and learned a ton!
Go back to university. Classes start in September!
Read The New Yorker within a week of when it arrives.
As it turns out, that job pays an extra $6 per hour on top of what I'm making at my current side gig. I should find out if I got the job by the end of August.
2023 Updated Resolutions and Progress (July):
Be in bed by 10 PM every night. For the most part, I have done this successfully. However, I've been waking up around 4 am and am having difficulty falling back asleep. It's not severe yet, but I'm worried that it will be eventually.
Lose 5 more pounds WITHOUT resorting to disordered eating.
Read a minimum of 30 books. My original goal was 25 books, but I've finished reading 27 books so far. I figured I'd raise the bar. I'm currently knee-deep in something like 26 other books and don't know how many I'll finish by the end of the year.
Listen to at least 2500 different bands/musicians this year. As of this moment, I've listened to 2326 bands in 2023. Honestly, I'm a little sick of seeking out new music and have begun listening to bands from when I was a teen 1000000 years ago.
Learn Python. I took Code in Place and learned a ton. I'd like to learn more, but I'm putting Python and Coursera classes on hold for the next goal...
Which is going back to university to become a licensed secondary math teacher. I've been accepted into the program I applied to and am psyched about it. University starts in September.
Read The New Yorker within a week of its arrival. I've managed to do this but don't know if I'll stick with it once work and school start up.
Get the third job I'm applying for. It's basically the same sort of job as job #2, but it pays an extra $12 per four-hour shift to reimburse the cost of transportation.
2023 Original Resolutions:
Be in bed by 9 PM every night.
Lose 10 more pounds (I lost 13 last year).
Read a minimum of 25 books. This is a super realistic goal, and I'm sure I'll read more than 25 books.
Listen to at least 2500 different bands/musicians this year.
Finish the Energy and Momentum course I'm taking. Earn >90%.
Take the Rotational Motion and Gravitation course.
Take the Electric Charges and Fields course.
2023 Updated Resolutions (April):
Be in bed by 10 PM every night.
Lose 10 pounds.
Read a minimum of 25 books. I’ve finished 17 so far.
Listen to at least 2000 different bands/musicians this year. I’ve listened to 1083 bands so far.
Finish the Energy and Momentum course I’m taking. Earn > 90%. I’ve put this on hold to start learning Python, but still plan to finish this year. I’m around 50% through the course.
Learn Python via Coursera, Zenva Academy, and Code in Place 2023 (if my application is accepted).
Begin working through problems on Project Euler using Python.
Read The New Yorker within a week of its arrival.

Client Project Management solutions
A client project is a project completed on behalf of a client whose results or deliverables are intended for an external client. The client project manager acts as an intermediary between the client and the project team and is responsible for ensuring that the client’s needs are met while making sure the project is moving in the right direction. The client project team is able to bring the project conversation back to how it will affect the business or whether it meets the stated goals of the project, which earns them the respect of the client. The following are project management challenges frequently faced by client project teams:
1. Avoid customer-specific scope creep
Scope creep is what keeps client project managers up at night. It is a constant threat, somehow lurking around every corner. When project requirements change midway, the complexity of the project deliverables increases and goes beyond the original agreement with the client. Scope creep happens often and more often, and it happens to the most well-intentioned team members. They see problems in the plan and want to fix them. Or, as an agency head, you want to know why something does not have a specific function, or the last change was made because of a recent request from the head of the company or agency. So scope creep occurs again. As an owner or agency head, you can see scope creep from two perspectives: as a victim or as an instigator.
Common reasons for this to happen:
Scope creep can sometimes feel inevitable, but dig a little deeper and there is usually an avoidable reason. Does this sound familiar?
Poor project planning, such as vague or unclear scope, can lead to scope creep
Stakeholders sometimes add new requirements after the schedule has been approved and set
Stakeholders fail to provide necessary information during the project planning stage (or the project manager fails to gather information adequately)
Sometimes a project is too long and complex to avoid scope creep and it is better to break it down into smaller activities
Ways to overcome this challenge:
8Manage PM provides requirement and change management functions, allowing you to control project scope and handle changes and impacts in real time. The best way to deal with changes is not just to suppress them. For high-priority changes, use 8Manage PM to provide change impact information, including time and cost, so people can make trade-offs. Many project-wide issues stem from (i) insufficient up-front research and (ii) the inability of the software used by the project team that cannot provide impact information in real time. The result is that the user group feels that the project manager keeps saying no, while the project manager thinks the user group demands everything.
2. Create and maintain process documentation
While the project scope outlines what the project should and should not do, the process document outlines how the work should be done. Great process documentation allows new team members to get started quickly, which is especially useful when someone leaves the team and has to bring others in. It also helps measure whether the team is doing everything according to the process. When disputes arise, teams need to find answers by consulting the processing documentation.
Common reasons for this to happen:
There is no way to properly add details to client files that are easily accessible and centrally managed by all team members
There is no process in place to create and update this material, or no responsible party
No one has defined and documented a given process well enough
Those in project management roles are too busy tracking repetitive tasks to focus on more complex things like process documentation
Ways to overcome this challenge:
8Manage PM allows you to plan the deliverables of the entire project, including the above-mentioned documents, allowing the team to set aside a fixed amount of time that can be used to work on the documents. 8Manage PM’s deliverables include automated time management mechanisms and review and acceptance processes, and even quality and KPI metrics. The system also provides an electronic document library subsystem for documents that need to be co-authored by multiple people, or need to keep multiple versions.
3. Manage customer expectations
Every business decision prioritizes cost, quality and time, but not every customer understands this in the same way. Even when clients are great, managing their expectations can be a challenge.
Common reasons for this to happen:
Fail to communicate realities (timeframes, capabilities, constraints) to clients ahead of time
Client changes their expectations after agreeing to project scope (another version of scope creep)
Customers want more control than you are prepared to give
Ways to overcome this challenge:
Most issues related to customer expectations boil down to proactive communication. Although 8Manage PM cannot solve all people-to-people communication problems, it can help you communicate systematically, confirm requirements, and effectively manage requirements changes and impacts. With 8Manage PM’s deliverables, you can (as we mentioned earlier) create and maintain process documentation, making sure everyone knows the exact tasks, deadlines and requirements. Creating paper trails and properly documenting who asked for what in a project are critical to maintaining a transparent client relationship.
4. Provide adequate project visibility to all stakeholders
Stakeholders appear to have no vision for what the project involves. Sometimes it is really the stakeholders fault, but usually it comes down to project visibility.
If stakeholders cannot clearly see what is involved, they cannot make the best decisions.
Common reasons for this to happen:
Inadequate tools for presenting and visualizing projects (whether in project planning, update meetings, or anything else)
Project managers are not clear when providing verbal or written updates
Data is presented in formats that some stakeholders do not understand (e.g. Gantt charts) or based on project management methodologies (e.g. agile project management)
Ways to overcome this challenge:
In addition to improving communication skills, 8Manage PM can also move stakeholders from alienated to active through better project visibility. It allows you to invite as many clients as possible to use the system for better collaboration. Worried about a particular client disrupting your project workflow with this type of access? Set up client access and keep your team focused!
5. Consistently manage and meet client deadlines
Project managers have a frustrating job: They have to convince teams to meet deadlines and prioritize work, but they don’t necessarily have full executive authority. If you are the owner or the head of the agency, you have an advantage here because you do have executive power. Still, you cannot tell exactly which software engineer is developing faster. This is a real challenge.
Common reasons for missing deadlines:Team members are not prioritizing tasks in the correct order; project timelines contain unrealistic workloads; agencies overcommit and take on more work than they actually accomplish; workflow inefficiencies.
Ways to overcome this challenge:The solutions here depend on why your team is not consistently meeting deadlines. Use 8Manage PM for better prioritization, project planning, staffing and learning.
6. Ensure good team and client communication
We have advised managers to communicate, but it does not stop there. Your team also needs to have good internal and external communication between members and customers. It is always harder to change others than yourself, and many professional project managers have struggled to create a culture of effective communication within their teams.
Common reasons for this to happen:Poor communication skills among team members; poor communication that is hurting team relationships; work environment not conducive to team building; unrealistic client deadlines or stakeholder dysfunction is damaging morale.
Ways to overcome this challenge:There are small steps you can take to improve your team’s relationships and morale, such as setting aside time for icebreakers and unstructured conversations at the start of meetings. You can also use the project management communication plan designed by 8Manage PM that enables team members to easily view, access or comment on tasks or subtasks, avoiding email black holes of project details, and ensuring better interactions with clients and more efficient cross-departmental cooperation.

Templo Major
Templo Mejor
Last day in Mexico city for museums. There are several I wanted to see but were closed or overbooked. A wander through the local area put me on street of fabric vendors, stores filled with rolls of every imaginable colour, slabs of foam, curtains and tablecloths. Left turn up towards the Zocalo, but the City museum was closed, so next on the map was the Templo Mejor, the site of the Aztecs main temple, discovered by street diggers, destroyed by Spaniards for building blocks for the cathedral. Long a vacant lot, planned for access, but not far underground was a huge stone disc with hyroglyphics(sp?). There proved to be a square block of ruins, some 20 feet deep. Plaza, temples, tombs, all carefully excavated, and artifacts removed to an onsite museum. From the street it looked like every other old site, crumbling walls, busted blocks, a few glyphs. However, the museum was one of the best yet, with a thousand items well displayed over 7 salas on 3 floors, well lit, but only Spanish plaques. As the authors are only guessing about the history and uses(no native history left) not reading the cards was OK. What continues to amaze me is the sheer volume of stuff found, lots in good condition. Clearly these people had a thriving crafts and tool market, and lots got dumped or lost. Thousands of spear points, obsidian knives, blades and pottery, bowls and cups, water coolers, and ritual pieces. The figurines were in excellent condition, some with original paint. Here were the childrens toy animals , pull toys on wheels, the only use of the wheel in this civilization(odd!). Despite the annoyance of having my water confiscated at the entrance, the 90 peso fee was well worth it,.
Up towards downtown(OK it,s all "downtown"), and I ambled into a museum only to realize i,d seen it before. Out and the National Museum that I really wanted to see was fully booked (tours only) with a standby maybe at 1 pm. Next i went through the huge wooden double doors to a magnificent 3 tiered courtyard surrounded by an art museum. Realized I,d been here too, but more salas were open and the rest were well worth a revisit Some of the paintings of streams and forests were 10 foot by 20, with massive gilt frames, and all well done, It's hard to paint water, but the ponds and streams seemed to flow, and the series of Mexico city as a pueblo on a lake had good perspective. I wandered the ballroom again with the frescoe 50 feet overhead and slogged up the marble staircases. All museums have washrooms which is convenient.
I,d gotten hungry so actually stopped at McDonalds for a chicken burger and gulped a Sprite(remember the confiscated water?). Crap food, but filled the spot. On to the Alameda searching for the Cafe Pagoda with the quality bakery. A few missteps and a couple of questions and there it was. More Strawberry shortcake and apple strudel(supper) and a tart for breakfast. The crowds were still surging up and down the pedestrian only streets and i realized that the sheer volume of tourists never stopped..Many of them could be from Mexico city, having 35 million to draw on. Anyway, an ice cream cone and back to Hotel Isabel to try and fit all my stuff into a daypack. It,s been a goal of mine to travel light and for these 2 weeks I have. Washed the shirt de jour nightly, stuffed my new tapetes in the bottom and abandoned my flip flops. books and odds/sods.
Now it,s off on a bus, hopefully the right one, for the aeropuerto
and my Volaris flight to Puerto. This has been an interesting and succesful trip, stimulating and challenging, just what i wanted. More from Casa Dan.....

12/12-18/12/2022
Bleh week at work. Decent week outside with highlights of chocolate, cheese, and gaming. 💀
This week was less fun and more filled with meetings than I'd care for. Including at least two that started with 'do you have 5 minutes' and lasted for over an hour. I get that people are trying to cram stuff in before they leave on 19th and before the year end but... mercy. I'm still burnt out from 2020. 😭
I'm swinging wildly from being quite pleased about what I've done with Team 2 to being depressed about how underbaked some of the processes are, how messy the backlog is, and so on. Fortunately the new PM is helping now and my mantra of reducing WIP may actually get somewhere, and they will have a new DM joining just before the day in the office. \o/
On the bright side I made some notes from User Research for Team 1 and heard pop-up research results from the side project which has now finished. We also have an emerging solid plan for Team 1's work in the first Q and some ideas for making our programme check-ins different and more effective.

The unexpected snow that paralysed UK transport as usual got in the way of a nice dinner with a friend. I still managed to join the

If I ever find the strength to be a Lead or in the position to influence org-level roadmaps again (Doubt.) this is definitely something I'd like to try:
It seems so obivous now that I've seen it, I am bewildered why anyone bothered with the Gantt-y spreadsheet lines. 🤯
It might go well along Vaugh Tan's Boris framework as well, just to make sure the things NOT being done are super visible? https://vaughntan.org/unpacking-boris

The unexpected snow that paralysed UK transport as usual got in the way of a nice dinner with a friend. I still managed to join the chocolate tasting group this month (we did bars originating from Tanzania) and use words like 'coarse', 'sour cherry', 'fruity but without a sour note at the end, a bit like apricot or banana' and hear other people describe stuff as 'the bin', 'sick', 'horrigyingly cloying'. One of the most pressured environments I've ever been in for sure. 😂 The chocolate in those sessions ranges between 70-85% so they day after in a bout of foolhardiness I went for a 100% hot choc at Knoops* and instead of something inexplicably disgusting I got a cup of hot, watery disappointment.
I failed miserably on the cheese advent calendar/cheese tasting front and mixed all my wonderful cheeses together to create (in all fairness pretty amazing) pasta cheese bakes. Farewell pre/post make model, we hardly knew ye. :'(
*I try to use Duck Duck Go more but even with string 'hot chocolate new row' and 'hot chocolate new row covent garden' this place was unfindable and I had to go with Google again. Sorry that I'm addicted to convenience I guess. -\(-__-)/-

Puppet History made me cry.
I lost several more hours in Hades - it's way too easy to do just another run.
And of course I'm playing Witcher 3 again. I forgot just HOW MUCH empty space to run across there is in it. The writing remains gut-wrenching and I already found two new quests so overall I am having a very good time tho.

NEXT WEEK
I feel like I've not watched a genuinely good film in ages. Maybe I'll try to change that. Maybe I'll just play games I've played before for 100 hours. 🙄
I might get started on a year-end personal retrospective and a personal plan. I've been asking the people I coach about theirs so it's only fair, right?
Booking things for the Interrail trip PROPERLY. Not just 2 days in Netherlands and then losing the will to live because of too many options and general anxiety. orz

10.4.22 Tuesday
7:21 am
Uncle Jun already up and went outside probably will feed Neko...
Me? I'm up now, drinking my kohi/coffee and still having this windblow trap... My personal case, wanna leave the hometown...
Theory:
A family or a circle of friends will never be successful if there is traitor inside the so called "group".
There is a so called "group" but all of the members only have their own personal agenda. Or there are people who joined but to spy on the agenda but will never be real on the main goal... A sad kingdom.... or there is "conspiracy" coming from old friends or from the family... A sad kingdom... is it???
9:14 am
Uncle Jun is doing his tik-tokings in the kitchen,now...
10:40 am
Uncle Jun went out going to baranggay...
Theory:
You can't give smile to a person that you don't even know their intestine.... That's the truth!
Theory:
You can't take a vow on protecting someone if you can't do it alone,first....You wanna be a protector but you let the baby grow old and you are putting the baby in the incubator for so long....The baby is already dead!!! No goal... No aim... Only jealousy and personal agenda! No success!!!
12:15 noon
Done, eating lunch with my bebeh-John....Thank God!
Trivia:
We presently have 1 aspin, her name is Lalah... This aspin is originally owned by my Uncle Jun and I just heard accidentally that Lalah is the legendary aspin in Cavite coz she is loved by a human being... She is treated with genuine love and care... The first aspin who is accepted in Cavite to have equal rights in a way,not to be abandoned on the street...
12:23 noon
Trivia:
I posted here that I was originally a cat lover... Our old living room,as you can see it used to be carpeted... We used to have 4 ac's... Whew!

Trivia & Theory & Memory: On friendship!
Tumblr media
It is just weird that I have a strange feeling on Mitch that she is somewhere, that I know that she is already married and happy perhaps and a doctor... We lost touch for so many years... Probably,my heart is longing for a good friend...
People will compare but 100% not coming from De La Salle University, coz people in De La Salle knew etiquette in life...
I just probably miss Mitch coz imagine for 3 1/2 years we were together, almost everyday from 7 am to 5pm or beyond... Mitch or Dra. San Juan she was part of yoga group coz of her scoliosis, she needs that and she was a mountaineer...
I remember she invited me to do yoga but I declined coz I enjoyed losing weight on taekwondo since I was still innocent and just enjoying...
2:26 pm
Theory:
A true friend will never back-stabbed you or tell stories that can cause your stage to shake,in- front of other people... A genuine friend will never open a negative thing about you even the intention is simply a joke...
An enemy will kick you, sometimes they will make it indirectly or in a way that is difficult for you to see...
My personal case,I feel self-pity...I have this windblow trap cult of Manalo! I feel bitter and bullshit!! Wanna leave the hometown... I feel fat and ugly...I need money and wanna express myself and I hate being caged unfairly... I need money and wanna do whitening injection and wanna a job away from here...
Theory:
A fake minister will never advice you to masturbate...They don't have the right to put a verdict on anyone most specially, for 15 years!
5:46 pm
I still have the windblow trap and I feel heavy from the past days... Hmm... Probably, coz of my sciatic pelvic pain... I still have the windblow trap and I feel self-pity and I need money and I feel bitter... I wanna leave the hometown...
I feel super self-pity... They took away my life since 2007!
5:57 pm
Uncle Jun went home and brought a cassava and mushroom flower, according to him Marvin, Old Ibias and him went to "Mushroom Burger" in Tagaytay...
In a lil while,I'm gonna share here something about that yummy "Mushroom Burger"...
6:47 pm
Oh! About this "Mushroom Burger" me and Mitch went there coz it was and still famous coz of the mushroom burger itself! Healthy and really, really yummy... Pricey for an ordinary earner around the cheapest is 2 to 3$ and beyond...
So, we went there, simply hanging out for a couple of times... Then, one day we need to decide our thesis topic... Then, one day again while we were eating,it suddenly pop-up in our head,to make a thesis about mushroom...
And I remember saying "oh! not bad at all!" Ohkay... Let's just think where we can have it for our thesis...
Then, we came up to a title of "Edible Mushroom of Basidiomycetes" as far as I can remember... Then, we asked Nick our old-aged classmate and in a way friend who lived in Laguna....We went to one of the falls there named " Buntot Palos of Laguna" or Tail of Palos Laguna... with Uncle Jun and his daughter,my cousin Janet as our supporters...
Hahaha Nick I remember Nick... He was our classmate and that time he was already on his 30's and we were both teenagers... Nick got a good family and nice house in Laguna....I remember he said my mother is crying, she didn't want me to leave the house or our family until I can give her my college diploma... That's why though I'm older than you guys and already I'm on my 30's,I have to finish my college and bring her my college diploma...
Those were the words of Nick,as far as I can remember...
Trivia:
A college diploma is a shield or a weapon when time comes that people around you is pushing you down and removing your dignity as an individual but still you have your shield...
That's my ID as a lifetime college graduate of De La Salle University...
Tumblr media
7:36 pm
I have complex and I feel so ugly...I wanna be myself and spread my wings... I wanna see people that I wanna see... I need money, a straight talk... I need a friend who can be mutually compatible with my request and favour...Probably, an old friend like young JP... An upper friend....Time to grow....
I wanna leave the hometown,I wanna see donkey and camel...Whew!
And text of Uncle DD... I or we need money these days... I hate it we can't open the AC! I feel bitter and self-pity...
Tumblr media
9:51 pm
I still have the windblow trap... Done, doing my stretching exercise on my sciatic pelvic pain but I think I need to see the chiropractor to fix this pain and to align whatever it is... I'm out of fundings... I can move but there is weird pain like an electricity running on my left pelvic, down to my left leg....
I feel self-pity and this weird cult of Manalo hating them so much for making me stupid for 15 years...
I need money... I have zero self-esteem for 15 years... I need a job for me... I'm losing my individuality and my rights as a woman and human being...
Wanna see people, that I wanna see... I hate being always on the 2nd choice...
Trivia:
Sex is a human nature....Sex is relevant to a human being with decency and respect and good linking of relationship with someone that you like or having a mutual understanding...

Sonic Origins Stream
It is finally here. Sonic origins are now out on steam and I'm going to stream it until 3 PM or 4 PM I am hyped for this game, and I will share my first time playing this since I never got to play the remake of Sonic 1 and Sonic 2, and I have been given a chance to do so now.
I have seen my friends saying it is bad or that is bad. Ignoring their opinions, for now, I'm going to form my opinion based on what I see. And yes, the old music done by MJ for Sonic 3 is gone, it sucks but it is not the end of the world for me.
If you want to watch this stream, you can head on over to https://www.twitch.tv/chaosony where I will be streaming this from 8 Am to 3 Pm EDT or till i get tired. I will be doing story mode for the stream and other stuff. :3
Beat Sonic 1,2, CD,3 and Knuckles as a goal

So I've never actually seen /u/ryans01 excellent post re-posted here on tumblr, and I think it could help a lot of people, so I'll repost it below. Link to the original
Ouch. Sounds like you're having a tough time max. That sucks. I've been there, so I kinda know what you're talking about. I've been in the ever circling vortex of self doubt, frustration, and loathing. It's no bueno. I know. If you don't mind lemme tell you a couple things. You can read em if you want, read em again later if you feel like it. But honestly man, if I spend all this time typing this out to you and you don't let it be a little tinder for your fire, well, you're just letting us both down. And you don't HAVE to do that. You don't HAVE to do anything. But you get to choose.
(Who am I? My name’s Ryan and I live in Canada. Just moved to a new city for a dream job that I got because of the rules below. I owe a lot of my success to people much cooler, kinder, more loving and greater than me. When I get the chance to maybe let a little bit of help out, it’s a way of thanking them. )
Rule numero uno - There are no more zero days. What's a zero day? A zero day is when you don't do a single fucking thing towards whatever dream or goal or want or whatever that you got going on. No more zeros. I'm not saying you gotta bust an essay out everyday, that's not the point. The point I'm trying to make is that you have to make yourself, promise yourself, that the new SYSTEM you live in is a NON-ZERO system. Didnt' do anything all fucking day and it's 11:58 PM? Write one sentence. One pushup. Read one page of that chapter. One. Because one is non zero. You feel me? When you're in the super vortex of being bummed your pattern of behaviour is keeping the vortex goin, that's what you're used to. Turning into productivity ultimate master of the universe doesn't happen from the vortex. It happens from a massive string of CONSISTENT NON ZEROS. That's rule number one. Do not forget.
La deuxieme regle - yeah i learnt french. its a canadian thing. please excuse the lack of accent graves, but lemme get into rule number 2. BE GRATEFUL TO THE 3 YOU'S. Uh what? 3 me's? That sounds like mumbo jumbo bullshit. News flash, there are three you's homeslice. There's the past you, the present you, and the future you. If you wanna love someone and have someone love you back, you gotta learn to love yourself, and the 3 you's are the key. Be GRATEFUL to the past you for the positive things you've done. And do favours for the future you like you would for your best bro. Feeling like shit today? Stop a second, think of a good decision you made yesterday. Salad and tuna instead of Big Mac? THANK YOU YOUNGER ME. Was yesterday a nonzero day because you wrote 200 words (hey, that's all you could muster)? THANK YOU YOUNGER ME. Saved up some coin over time to buy that sweet thing you wanted? THANK YOU. Second part of the 3 me's is you gotta do your future self a favour, just like you would for your best fucking friend (no best friend? you do now. You got 2. It's future and past you). Tired as hell and can't get off reddit/videogames/interwebs? fuck you present self, this one's for future me, i'm gonna rock out p90x Ab Ripper X for 17 minutes. I'm doing this one for future me. Alarm clock goes off and bed is too comfy? fuck you present self, this one's for my best friend, the future me. I'm up and going for a 5 km run (or 25 meter run, it's gotta be non zero). MAKE SURE YOU THANK YOUR OLD SELF for rocking out at the end of every.single.thing. that makes your life better. The cycle of doing something for someone else (future you) and thanking someone for the good in your life (past you) is key to building gratitude and productivity. Do not doubt me. Over time you should spread the gratitude to others who help you on your path.
Rule number 3- don't worry i'm gonna too long didnt' read this bad boy at the bottom (get a pencil and piece of paper to write it down. seriously. you physically need to scratch marks on paper) FORGIVE YOURSELF. I mean it. Maybe you got all the know-how, money, ability, strength and talent to do whatever is you wanna do. But lets say you still didn't do it. Now you're giving yourself shit for not doing what you need to, to be who you want to. Heads up champion, being dissapointed in yourself causes you to be less productive. Tried your best to have a nonzero day yesterday and it failed? so what. I forgive you previous self. I forgive you. But today? Today is a nonzero masterpiece to the best of my ability for future self. This one's for you future homes. Forgiveness man, use it. I forgive you. Say it out loud.
Last rule. Rule number 4, is the easiest and its three words. exercise and books. that's it. Pretty standard advice but when you exercise daily you actually get smarter. when you exercise you get high from endorphins (thanks body). when you exercise you clear your mind. when you exercise you are doing your future self a huge favour. Exercise is a leg on a three legged stool. Feel me? As for books, almost every fucking thing we've all ever thought of, or felt, or gone through, or wanted, or wanted to know how to do, or whatever, has been figured out by someone else. Get some books max. Post to reddit about not caring about yourself? Good first step! (nonzero day, thanks younger me for typing it out) You know what else you could do? Read 7 habits of highly successful people. Read "emotional intelligence". Read "From good to great". Read “thinking fast and slow”. Read books that will help you understand. Read the bodyweight fitness reddit and incorporate it into your workouts. (how's them pullups coming?) Reading is the fucking warp whistle from Super Mario 3. It gets you to the next level that much faster.
That’s about it man. There’s so much more when it comes to how to turn nonzero days into hugely nonzero days, but that’s not your mission right now. Your mission is nonzero and forgiveness and favours. You got 36 essays due in 24 minutes and its impossible to pull off? Your past self let you down big time, but hey… I forgive you. Do as much as you can in those 24 minutes and then move on.
I hope I helped a little bit max. I could write about this forever, but I promised myself I would go do a 15 minute run while listening to A. Skillz Beats Working Vol. 3. Gotta jet. One last piece of advice though. Regardless of whether or not reading this for the first time helps make your day better, if you wake up tomorrow, and you can’t remember the 4 rules I just laid out, please, please. Read this again.
Have an awesome fucking day ☺
tldr; 1. Nonzero days as much as you can. 2. The three you’s, gratitude and favours. 3. Forgiveness 4. Exercise and books (which is a sneaky way of saying self improvement, both physical, emotional and mental)
Edit: Wow reddit gold? Thanks! No idea what to do with it or whats the deal but many thanks!
Edit2: Someone asked what I meant by "much more when it comes to how to turn nonzero days into hugely nonzero days". The long and short of it is a simple truth, but it's tough to TOTALLY UNDERSTAND AND PRACTICE. It's this: you become what you think. This doesnt mean if I think of a tree, I'll be oakin' it by august. It means that the WAY you think, the THINGS you think of, and the IDEAS YOU HOLD IN YOUR MIND defines the sum total that is you. You procrastinate all the time and got fear and worry goin on for something? You are becoming a procrastinator. You keep thinking about how much you want to run that 5 k race in the spring and finish a champion? Are ya keeping it in mind all the time? Is it something that is defining your ACTIONS and influencing you DECISIONS? If it is, then you're becoming the champion you're dreaming about. Dreaming about it makes it. Think and it shall be. But do not forget that action is thought's son. Thoughts without actions are nothing. Have faith in whatever it is you've steeled your mind to. Have faith and follow through with action.
Ok, Ryan that's a bunch of nice words n shit, but how does that help me turn slightly nonzero days into hugely nonzero days. Do you believe all these words you just read? Does it makes sense to you that you BECOME WHAT YOU THINK OF? Ask yourself: What do I think of? When you get home and walk in the door. (how quickly did you turn that laptop on? Did turning it on make you closer to your dreams? What would?) At the bus stop. Lunch break. What direction are you focusing your intentions on? If you're like I was a few years ago, the answer was either No direction, or whatever caught my eye at the moment. But no stress, forgive yourself. You know the truth now. And knowing the truth means you can watch your habits, read books on how you think and act, and finally start changing your behaviour. Heres an example: Feeling like bunk cause you had zero days or barely nonzero days? THINK ABOUT WHAT YOURE DOING. and change just a little bit more. in whatever positive direction you are choosing to go.

For the ask game, would you please answer questions numbered 2, 8, 14 (all of your titles have such cool names), 18 (I hope Abditory isn't one of them as that story rocks), 21, 24, 29, 30, 33, 34, 44, 51, 62, 76, 82, 85, 88, 90, and 98.
Sorry for asking so many, but I love your work! Entombed gave me so many feels! I found your stories because author Breanie said to read them in her author's notes. Best rec ever! Thank you for answering.
Wow, that is a lot of asks! Thank you so much for wanting to know so much about little ole me. I think I hit them all in this and my apologies if I missed one. Let me know if I missed one. @breaniebree is awesome and my writing BFF. She is amazing, and I love her.
2) What fandoms do you write for and do you have a particular favourite if you write for more than one?
So, I’ve written for The X-Files, Supernatural, and Harry Potter. I currently only write for Harry Potter. I would say Harry Potter has always been the most fun.
8) Where do you take your inspiration from?
Random shit. Brontide came to me because I was browsing the HPFanfiction subreddit looking for a story suggestion and someone asked for a story where Harry was addicted to Felix. Only one unfinished dimensional time travel story was listed. It idea sparked me to write my own version. Entombed came to me because I was rewatching Buffy the Vampire Slayer where Buffy was buried alive. I knew I wanted to bury Ginny alive. As I stated in the author’s notes of last Kalopsia chapter, I drew inspiration from the Djinn storyline in Supernatural. I write about things I know, too. I have young kids at home so I like writing the Potter children as young because I can mimic their mannerisms in my writing. I’ve even asked my kids to say certain words to emulate their speech pattern in my writing if I’m writing that age group.
14) How did you come up with the title for the XXX? You can ask about multiple stories.
I HATE coming up with titles. My newest trend has been to literally Google “unique words”. There are a ton of Pinterest accounts who make fancy word and definition pictures. I scroll through all these little unique words and pick out ones I think fit a story. Sometimes I Google a unique word for BLANK and see if I can get a cool version of that name. @breaniebree actually helped me with Entombed.
18) Do you have any abandoned WIP’s? What made you abandon them?
Sadly, I would put Abditory in this category. Never say never though. I think about it from time to time. Honestly, I abandoned it due to such a negative response I was receiving and the lack of positive response. I became discouraged. It wasn’t even negative response due to my writing, it was literally a bunch of “why would you waste your time writing a story about the biggest plot hole in the books? JKR butchered the whole SK storyline and it’s unbearable to read.” So, basically, my reviews and PMs were filled with JKR hate over that plot point in the books. They heavily outweighed the positive reviews I received. Honestly, I think that’s why a bulk of stories get abandoned - lack of positive reviews or enthusiasm for a story. If I didn’t get so many great reviews for my stories, I don’t know if I’d be able to finish them or continuing writing new ones. Fanfiction is free, (as it should be) but it’s a lot of time and hard work. A little appreciation goes a LONG way. So, my advice, review everything you love reading and encourage writers to keep writing. I always say in my authors notes that reviews make me want to write and inspire me. That’s the truth. The moment I stop getting reviews will probably be the time I take a writing break again.
21) Tell me about another writer(s) who you admire? What is it about them that you admire?
@breaniebree. I mean she’s dedicated years to a single story with so many plot lines and characters that I’m amazed she did it. She’s a fantastic writer, and I definitely consider her my writing BFF. I feel like I’ve learned a lot from her and enjoy talking about writing with her so much. I’m so glad we’ve become friends.
24) How do you feel about writing smutty scenes?
Horrified. Anytime I get a little steamy in my stories, it goes immediately to @breaniebree who usually adds way too much smut and then I cut it down to still be somewhat PG-13 in order to appeal to a wider audience.
29) Do you have a story that you feel doesn’t get as much love as you’d like?
I feel like Kalopsia isn’t getting as much love as my other stories. I’m way behind in my normal review count per chapter. I wonder if it’s just the confusing storyline or if it’s just not as fun to read? But I was definitely worried it wouldn’t get the love I thought it deserved when I started writing it and it’s lived up to that expectation.
30) In contrast to 29, is there a story which gets lots of love which you kinda eye roll at?
Cronus Rising. People still recommend it occasionally and I still get random reviews. I’m like, “why????” Its horribly written and a stupid plot line. I literally was getting back into writing after not writing for a good five years, so it’s abysmal. I’ve often wanted to rage delete it.
33) What’s the biggest compliment you’ve gotten?
When someone tells me I should write an original novel and they’d buy the hell out of it. I do have some original novel ideas floating around (one I’ve been writing since I was like 15), but crippling fear of rejection from publishers have stopped me from ever actually finish an original novel.
34) What’s the harshest criticism you’ve gotten?
I got some criticism in Brontide for having drama for drama’s sake with no real purpose or goal for said drama. I felt my drama served a purpose, drove the story along, and I add a lot of fluffy and cute family moments. I feel like in real life, when you to your loved one is going through sometime, it feels like nonstop drama and bad news and like a dark cloud just follows you. I wanted to emulate that in real life. So Harry’s POV was often drab because HE was the one going through something horrific and it was all doom and gloom for him.
44) What is the last line you wrote?
“You never think I listen to your ramblings, but it’s kind of hard to block out, mate.”
51) From one to five stars, how would you rate your writing? (No downplaying yourself!)
Um... I’d say a 3. I think I have some good and unique plots for stories but sometimes I struggle on how to execute those on paper effectively. I struggle with descriptions, action, and showing rather than telling. But I do think I’m good at dialogue and capturing a character’s personality. So, 3.
62) Tell us about a WIP you’re excited about.
A lot! I have a Teddy/Victoire stalker story in the works that I’m excited about. I have (this is going to sound weird) but an outsider rom-com planned where Ron/Hermione breakup right before Hinny’s wedding and Hinny struggles to get them back together before the big day. I have a Potter family vacation fluff/comedy story planned. I have a game night one-shot planned. I have a short story about Luna’s wedding. So many that I want to write and don’t know which one to write first!!
76) Is there anything you’ve wanted to write, but you’ve been too scared to try?
I’d say no. I’ve always tried to write my ideas down. Some I’ve never finished because inspiration peters off and some I plan on finishing once my newest big project is done.
82) Summarize a random fic of yours in 10 words or less.
Harry goes through some shit, and Ginny is his soulmate.
85) Ramble about any fic-related thing you want!
I don’t understand why people don’t ship Harry/Ginny more. I don’t understand the Harry/Daphne obsessions (like just why???) or the Harry/Hermione ship at all. I always see people asking for story recommendation and they specific say “no Harry/Ginny”. They are literally perfect for one another and they are soulmates.
88) If you could ask one other fanfic author three questions about their writing, writing process, or works, what would they be and who would you ask?
@breaniebree .
1.) How do you organize all your charts? Send me the ALL the charts. Because I don’t understand how you keep everything straight!
2.) How do you write so much? You’re like a little writing machine in a cute little package.
3.) Where do all the ideas come from? In a dream? Just thinking? Driving? Do you write everything out in your head like meeee? Can I have some of your writing mojo?
90) How do you process and deal with negative reviews?
I obsess over them. I analyze them. I may get bummed out and not write for a few days. If you don’t like what I write, then don’t read or review. It’s a hobby. I do this for free. I’m not asking you to critique me. Give me a nice review or ask me a question, but don’t be cruel or mean because you can hide behind a keyboard and be a bully to make yourself feel superior.
98) If you had to give up either snacks and drinks during writing sessions, or music, which would you find more difficult to say goodbye to and why?
Music. I grew up with three older brothers. My house was always rowdy and loud and obnoxious. I need it to be loud. I can’t stand the silence or focus when it’s silent. I need music to help me think and write. When I’m home alone, I always turn on the TV or music, because I can’t stand when it’s silent. I think I’d go insane.

Read The New Yorker within a week of its arrival.

ch. 1 // ch. 3 // series masterlist
Though your mom always tells you that all of her sorority batchmates are her closest friends, you’ve observed over the years that there are particular people in such group who are simply a little extra special in her heart. No one can genuinely call each and every one of their friends as their best friends, after all. For different reasons, some people just weigh a little more than the rest in one’s heart.
It’s like how you would differentiate Jisung and Ryujin as your best friends; the former is your annoying childhood best friend while the latter is your college support best friend.
You’ve come to this conclusion through the ‘auntie activities’ as you would call it that your mom would participate in without fault with certain people. Said activities are usually one on one and with the purpose of either gossiping about one of their friends’ family life like when your mom and Mrs. Hwang would have your families go on a Saturday brunch once a month or discussing how their respective businesses are going like when your mom and Mrs. Kim would meet up either at either of your family’s nearest restaurant or bakery.
For your mom and Mrs. Han, their unique ‘auntie activity’ together is going to the mall together.
Of course, they still go on individual trips on regular shopping days but mall sales are specifically reserved for a joint trip. For some ten years or so now, they’ve never gone to a sale without the other and although that’s a genuine friendship goal in your book, you’re always on the suffering end of these trips, possibly even more than their black cards, because Jisung and his older brother usually bail on you to help carry the shopping bags.
Fortunately this year, however, as you (and you later find out, his dad as well) had made him promise last year, Jisung joins you on your respective moms’ first shopping spree together on the day after the New Year. It’s especially fortunate because it’s right after the first holiday of the year and as usual, your mom and Mrs. Han have an endless list to go through for the entire day.
“I’m telling you, we’re going to go through all the shops in the mall.” You exaggerate to him for the second time as the two of you walk behind your mom and his, your hands unclasped now that they’re not looking in favor of simply walking next to each other with your hands in your respective coat pockets. “The New Year’s Sale is no joke.”
After years of Jisung often running away from shopping duty, you feel like you have ten years worth of exaggerating this whole trip to taunt him.
But Jisung shakes his head, still unconvinced, “Nah, you’re messing with me, my mom doesn’t bring home that much bags after this.”
“But you were in Malaysia for a year,” You counter. “so your opinion’s quite outdated to a degree.”
Walking a little faster now that a crowd has formed in the large distance between you and your moms, Jisung walks closer and links his arms to yours. It’s not a show for other people this time; rather, it’s his natural response to being in crowds and public spaces, so you naturally pull him closer to your side in response which he sends you a genuinely grateful smile for.
“I still don’t think we’re going to have that much of a hard time.” He repeats unfazed, leaning down next to your ear so you can hear him clearly against the loud chatter of the people around you. When he almost trips from not looking ahead, you catch him with a chuckle. “Anyway, yeah, that!”
You only shake your head at him at him, prompting him to walk faster with you now as you see your moms walking in a shop ahead of you. “Tell that to me again when we end up in a furniture shop later.”
If your exaggerations weren’t enough a while ago to convince him, your nonchalant comment quickly made up for it as you see him looking at you in disbelief from the corner of your eye. “Seriously?” He asks after a moment, blinking twice and slowly.
But you only pull him in the same retail store you find your mom and his in, dragging him to the empty seats and making him sit. “We’ll see later.” You smile tauntingly at him this time before joining your moms to do some shopping yourself. Turning around before you disappear into a nearby clothes rack, you manage a wink at Jisung and conclude, “I hope you worked out well while in Malaysia, Sung.”
Tumblr media
Your lunch ends up getting pushed back to some time around 3:30 PM fourteen shops later, much to Jisung’s displeasure as he hauls his mom’s shopping bags inside the mall’s branch of your family’s restaurant chain with difficulty. You carry your own mom’s shopping bags which are relatively the same in amount and weight as well but without any complains, showing the clear difference between you and your best friend who’s only done this for a total amount of twenty sporadic times in the span of ten years.
“Sungie, put them under the table not on the chair!” Mrs. Han scolds her son when she notices some of her shopping bags on your table’s extra chair to Jisung’s left. She sits across him and next to your mom on the rectangular table while you sit on Jisung’s right, receiving the menus for the whole table when a waiter approaches.
With a pout, Jisung quietly obliges, pushing his chair back and transferring all the shopping bags under the table (where your mom’s shopping bags have already been placed) and pushing them to the glass pane so they’re out of everyone’s way. Though this makes you chuckle, you pass the menus in your hands to your mom anyway and proceed to help Jisung, briefly seating yourself on the now empty chair and helping him arrange the bags so they don’t mix.
“Are you still good, baby?” You tease Jisung with a nudge as you finish your task, moving back to your original seat after. Your mom then hands you a menu for you and Jisung to share, having slyly returned the fourth menu book while you had your attention elsewhere.
“Please tell me we’re not going to more shops after this.” Jisung pleads, taking the other end of the menu and holding it up to your faces, obstructing your respective moms’ views of the two of you. You’re forced to hold up your end of the menu because of this, beating him to turning the pages in return. “My arms are going to fall off.”
You glance over to his now exposed arms, teasingly much like he did checking you out last Christmas. As long-time best friends do, you briefly relish in the fact that it’s your turn teasing him now. “They look fine.” You half-shrug nonchalantly, chuckling when he doesn’t stop whining in protest. “Anyway, I think my mom’s too tired to go to another shop already. Surprisingly, that might just be all for today.”
“I’m so tired, I don’t think I can even walk back to the parking lot.” Jisung leans back in the soft cushions lining his wooden chair with a sigh, skimming through the menu while you patiently have your hand bookmarked to the next page. “Can I order the entire menu?”
“Only if you pay, of course.” You answer, flipping to the next page when you’ve sensed that he’s finished.
“What should I get?” Jisung hums next to you, scooting his chair closer now and leaning his head on your shoulder when his hand holding the menu starts cramping and he’s forced to set his half of the menu down on the table. “After buying fries with you a while back, I don’t think I’m in the mood for anything savory right now.”
You push him away with a finger to his forehead until your mom looks pointedly at you, making Jisung chuckle on your shoulder after as he puts your hand down. Sighing, you suggest, “Our pastry chef that you like so much, Chef Moon, relocated here from the branch on our subdivision, so—how about blueberry cheesecake?”
“Ah, okay.” Tilting your head to him, you see him nod with a smile before lifting his head up from your shoulder and leaning over the table to tell his mom that he’ll get cheesecake and iced Americano, not passing up an opportunity to eat a slice of your family business’ infamous cheesecake recipe. With your shoulder now free once again, you flip to a few more pages before telling your own order to your mom, settling on ordering Cola and pizza good for two in case Jisung changes his mind.
“You’re not ordering dessert, Y/N?” Your mom asks curiously when the waiter approaches for the second time, pen and paper in hand this time to take your orders.
You shake your head but Jisung contradicts you by saying, “We’ll just share.” which only makes your mom and Mrs. Han giggle.
“Okay!” Your mom grins at Jisung before turning to the waiter and reciting back everyone’s orders. She specifically makes sure to request having Jisung’s cheesecake plate to have two slices instead of one, winking up at the waiter.
Hearing that, Jisung initiates playing footsies under the table and you purposely step on his favorite black boots in response. “You’re getting one less pizza slice because of that.” You scold at him, briefly placing a hand on his knee after to stop his leg from moving.
“Then you get only half of the second cheesecake slice.” He shoots back, nudging your thigh with his knee before stopping completely. “Come on, I’m trying to get on your mom’s good graces here.”
“It’s not like you haven’t been this entire time.” You mumble under your breath as the waiter finishes taking your orders and leaves.
It’s a relatively known fact that best friend or fake boyfriend, Jisung is your mom’s favorite friend of yours. You don’t want to admit it in front of his face but he really has that kind of aura as he’s always claimed—the one moms like for their children.
“I know but we’re ‘dating’ now so I need to earn extra points here and there.” He points out cheekily, grinning wider when he catches his mom trying to eavesdrop on the two of you while pretending to browse through your mom’s phone with her. “You don’t have to do the same for my mom, though, she actually likes you better than me.”
The last comment makes you sigh in relief and relax in your seat.
After a moment, the waiter then briefly returns for the second time and serves glasses of water to your whole table this time, informing your mom after that Chef Moon in the kitchen has approved of her special request regarding Jisung’s cheesecake.
“Your order will be served in 15 to 20 minutes.” The waiter concludes, eyes darting between your mom and Mrs Han. “Would that be okay, Mrs. Y/L/N?”
“Yes, definitely.” Your mom smiles, the waiter bowing respectfully before leaving.
Once the waiter is out of earshot, your mom and Mrs. Han turn to you and Jisung across the table with an all-too familiar look on their faces—the same look they gave Chan and Miyoung the first time they attended the Christmas reunion party together which is definitely not good.
Now that there’s no menu acting as a shield between the four on you on the table, you mentally prepare yourself for the next natural topic that would follow: questions on ‘who confessed?’, ‘what do you like about each other?’, and some invasive and probably even NSFW questions you’re not sure if you can handle hearing firsthand from your mom in front of Jisung right now.
You seriously hope you don’t tackle the last part.
“So, Jisung, Y/N.” Your mom starts, clasping her hands on top of the table intimidatingly. “You two have been seeing each other for a month now, right?”
You cough awkwardly, as if signalling Jisung to follow along, “Almost a month now, I think.”
Next to you, Jisung hurriedly nods in agreement, “We just started going out a week before I came home.”
Mrs. Han hums in thought, crossing her arms in front of her chest as she alternates glancing between you and Jisung. Eventually, she lands her eyes last to her son, asking, “Sungie, dear, you know your mom really gets confused about these kinds of modern things, right? And Mrs. Y/L/N too! Can you tell us again how the you two actually started dating in long-distance? It just baffles us, really!”
Now, it’s Jisung’s turn to cough and shuffle in his seat awkwardly. “Oh, um...” His arm behind your chair naturally falls on your shoulder as he sits up, his hands squeezing your shoulder nervously once that convinces you to refrain from swatting his hand away. “You know, texts and calls. We FaceTimed a lot like what you, me, and dad used to do after my classes.”
“And you confessed first?” Your mom asks next, an endearing smile on her face as she to the table in anticipation.
“N—“ Jisung stammers before you nudge his leg, making him change his answer, “Y-Yeah! It just...it just happened, like that, Mrs. Y/L/N.”
You purse your lips nervously, glancing to Jisung as you do so. Luckily, your worries quickly fade when, instead of asking you for more specifics, your mom only gushes to Mrs. Han, “Time’s really changing a lot, don’t you think, Mrs. Han? In our days, men would court women and everything!”
You relax under Jisung’s touch and he instinctively rubs circles on your shoulder blades, sighing in relief.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Han twists her body to the side so she’s facing your mom more now, “I know right, sis! We used to have pagers and send letters and go to payphones in our time too! The only time you’d see your date would be when you go on actual dates!”
“Right, dates!” Your mom exclaims, turning to you and Jisung. “I’m sure you guys haven’t gone on a physical date yet since we went to Japan for Christmas, right?”
You nod slowly, carefully processing this entire conversation. “Well, yeah, but we’re not—we’re just taking things slow now.” You clarify sheepishly, cringing internally at referring to you and Jisung as a couple. “We did start this—dating, I mean!—while...apart, so—“
“—Oh, but you should go on dates soon!” Your mom interjects, waving her hand frantically in the air now. Mrs. Han nods along. “Call me and Jisung’s mom old-fashioned but quality time is very important, especially with you kids always dependent on talking through your phones and gadgets now! What if you liked going on dates through your phones but you don’t enjoy each other’s company? That’d be really troublesome!”
“And besides, you only have a few weeks of classes before you get another break, that’s a lot of time to actually date!” Mrs. Han adds. “You two can hang out at one of our hotels or here on your restaurants.”
Though the offer is tempting (the Han family’s hotels do have great facilities), Jisung grins bashfully and declines the offer. “It’s fine, mom. Y/N and I are chill, seriously. We see each other at campus, anyway.” He assures.
“He drives me home too,” You add, just to be a little helpful. “you know, pre-Malaysia.”
Jisung nods at this, making sure to discreetly send a grateful smile your way.
“Think about it, anyway.” Mrs. Han insists, just as you see the waiter from a distance approaching with two trays of your meals. “Dating in college is really the sweetest time but if you two ever get bored of snacking at kiosks and going to the smaller cafes, just call me or Mrs. Y/L/N and we can definitely make arrangements anywhere!”
You then see your mom’s eyes widen before you can even speak, turning to Mrs. Han and asking, “Right, Mrs. Han, don’t you have a new hotel in Jeju?” which makes you choke on your spit and Jisung to sit up straighter in his seat, his free hand going up to his neck awkwardly. “That would be a cute Spring break getaway, don’t you think?”
“Right, right!” Mrs. Han agrees enthusiastically, momentarily stopping when the waiter now arrives and arranges your meals on the table. “We just opened last summer and our Sungie hasn’t been there yet.”
“That’s perfect!” Your mom clasps her hands again in satisfaction. “My husband and I haven’t been there yet too but sending Y/N in for us for a Spring break trip sounds good to me!”
“Oh my God, mom.” You place a hand to your forehead in embarrassment, begrudgingly sliding yours and Jisung’s plates towards you with your free hand Next to you, Jisung dramatically whines to his mom about how embarrassing she’s making him feel.
The two of you unconsciously agree that your respective moms are being a little too much.
“Ay, what are you two being so dramatic about?” Mrs. Han dismisses with a laugh. “Your grandparents were the same when your mom and I were dating other people in college, too. We’re just a little excited like them!”
“Yes, plus, Jisung’s the first guy you’ve dated that you’ve introduced to me and your dad!” Your mom points out.
“It’s not like I’ve seriously dated anyone else.” You grumble, making Jisung chuckle. You then smack his arm, now back to his side as he digs in his cheesecake, in response.
“Still, Mrs. Han and I are just more than happy that it’s the two of you dating.” Your mom concludes as she prepares to eat. “You two are just so adorable!”
“Very, very adorable.” Mrs. Han emphasizes before taking a bite of her own meal. “Now, let’s eat before the food gets cold!”
You sigh, carefully dividing the pizza slices for you and Jisung. “Thank you for the food.” Next to you, Jisung cuts you a spoonful of cheesecake, holding it up to your lips and mumbling, “Take this one. Congrats on surviving your first interrogation, I guess.”
You can’t help but chuckle, relaxing your shoulders. This time, you let him feed you cheesecake.
Tumblr media
Your half a day spent walking around the mall and shopping mostly for clothes finally catches up to your mom and Mrs. Han towards the end of your meal, enough to keep them seated longer than usual but not enough to stop them from talking. Checking the time on your phone, you see that it’s almost 5 PM but neither your mom nor Mrs. Han make any initiative to part ways and call it a day, endlessly chatting along across from you about the most trivial of things you’re quite sure they’ve talked about at least three times this whole break already.
It doesn’t bother you nor Jisung, of course (him especially since he immediately leaned all of his body weight onto you and took a quick nap after eating), but from what you can remember, your parents have scheduled the yearly New Year’s company party at home for later at 7 PM.
“Mom,” You call for your mom’s attention after a while, your Twitter and Instagram feeds getting boring now after almost twenty minutes of mindless scrolling. Next to you, Jisung has long awakened from his nap and has settled to passing the time on his phone as well, albeit spamming a groupchat that seems to have Seungmin and Hyunjin in it. “Sorry, but, um, it’s almost five. I told the helpers that we’d be home by 6:30 to help prepare for the party later.”
Your mom and Mrs. Han briefly exchange knowing looks to each other before your mom turns to you again and smiles, “Oh, of course, dear, we won’t take long now. I already texted the driver too.”
“Oh,” You muse in relief, leaning back in your seat. “okay, then.”
Jisung, having closed his phone now, then turns to you and suggests, “How about we walk outside?”
You immediately turn to him, “Hm?”
He pouts, frowning. “Let’s take a walk, it’s getting boring sitting around.”
Your mom, upon hearing this, quickly backs Jisung up, “You two can walk around for now, we’ll just be here. You spent most of the day following us, anyway.”
You look back across the table to your mom as you remove your coat from behind you on the chair and gather your pouch from the hooks under the table, “Are you sure?”
She nods reassuringly, shooing you with her free hand, “Yes, go! I’ll text you when the driver gets here.”
Jisung stands up after you, taking his own coat from his chair then joining you in bidding your mom and his own goodbye. With that, the two of you then head to the exit, reemerging into the mall’s main corridors whose crowd has reduced significantly now.
“Okay, so, where do you want to go?” You ask as the two of you put on your coats and randomly agree on turning right. You offer your arm in between the two of you as you walk, out of concern for him just like when you were walking a while back, and he links his arms with yours in response, pulling you closer as you walk.
You look up to him after to see him quickly scanning the shops ahead of you, head turning around in different directions until they land back to you. “I don’t really have any shop in mind.” He shrugs. “You?”
You shrug back, concluding, “Let’s just walk around?” which he nods in agreement to.
With that, the two of you then walk mindlessly with the flow of the crowd, occasionally stopping by a couple of windows to look at displays of products you don’t actually need right now. Jisung stands close to you the entire time as he always naturally does whenever the two of you are together but without much pressure of your moms looking this time and you let him without teasing or complains, leading the two of you and navigating around the mall.
Eventually, you reach a branch of Mumuso on the rightmost end of the main building’s second floor, deciding on entering the shop when you spot a hamster stuff toy inside.
“I don’t look like that!” Jisung puffs his cheeks out as you pull him inside by the wrist, the gesture completely unhelpful to his case when you glance back at him from your shoulder and laugh which only makes him groan. “You’re so mean!”
“But you do!” You insist, carefully weaving in through the aisles, display shelves, and other people until you reach the other side of the glass pane you were observing the stuff toys from a while ago. Picking up a hamster stuff toy and holding it up to his pouting face, you chuckle, “Look, hamster one and hamster two!”
He gently swats the stuffed toy away, whining, “Y/N!”
“What?” You whine back teasingly, hugging the stuff toy to your chest. “It really looks like you! So cute.”
“I thought we agreed before that quokkas are better?” He points out before attempting to return the stuffed toy back on the shelves but to no avail.
“But they don’t sell quokka stuffed toys, not even Tickles sells those.” You pout teasingly this time, twisting your upper body away so the hamster’s out of Jisung’s reach. When he easily gives up trying to steal the hamster from you, you then then to the shelves behind you. “Anyway, what should we get with this little guy?”
Behind you, Jisung’s eyes widen and his mouth falls slightly agape, “You’re seriously buying?”
Glancing back to him again as he follows you scanning the shelves, you reply, “Mom and auntie let us walk around the mall before we go—they never do that, even when you’d tag along before, remember? I’m sure they’re expecting us to buy something.”
“I doubt it.” He dismisses, humoring you by picking up a stuff bear anyway. “Besides, stuff toys are too expensive when you can get quality hugs from me.”
You scoff, gently shoving him away when he takes a step forward to you and holds the stuff bear in front of his face. This only makes the two of you laugh, holding your respective stuff toys in front of your laughing faces.
“But it’s on sale.” You point out when you catch your breath, showing him the tags on the toys you picked up. “Buy 1 take 1.”
Jisung hums in thought, squishing the bear in his hands before sighing in defeat, “Okay, fine—but you buy and I take.”
You scowl up at him but he only holds the bear up to his face in an attempt to look cute. “What?” He continues with a smug smile. “You suggested we buy stuff toys, so stop scowling, ugly.”
You groan, frowning down at your hamster stuff toy that seems to plead you with its beady eyes. “Okay, okay.” You surrender quite easily, hugging the stuff toy again much to Jisung’s amusement, the toys undeniably too cute to pass up.
Jisung grins happily, grabbing hold of your wrist this time and leading you to check out, “Let’s go, then, before you change your mind!”
You roll your eyes but let him pull you along behind him, anyway, taking you to the fairly long line of customers at check-out.
“We’ll be back in your restaurant just in time.” Jisung assures, taking your plush hamster courteously. “Here, let me take that.”
“Thanks.” You smile appreciatively, replacing the plush toy with your phone now as the two of you wait.
A few people behind you, you initially fail to notice Mrs. Park on the adjacent check-out’s lane with her two daughters and one of her nephews, , immediately recognizing you and Jisung. Having missed the opportunity to talk to the two of you during the reunion party, she approaches the two of you, calling your names just as you and Jisung conclude your last conversation, “Jisung! Y/N! Hello!”
You instinctively freeze while Jisung turns around curiously, eyes widening at seeing Mrs. Park. “Mrs. Park! Hi!” He greets with an equally awkward bow to her, turning you to face your mom’s best friend in setting you up on blind dates after when he sees how tense you’ve become. Looking behind her shoulders, he catches Mrs. Park’s three companions and waves politely at them. “Happy New Year!”
Mrs. Park smiles sweetly, “Happy New Year to the two of you too!” She then adjusts her shawl on her shoulders, gesturing over to her daughters and nephew, especially to Jaemin who waves at you with a warm smile. “Soyeon, Soojung, Jaemin, and I were just finished shopping around as well when I saw you so I thought I’d come and say hi. How are you two?”
“We’re, uh, we’re good!” Jisung grins, showing her your plush toys. “We were just shopping too.”
“Was I interrupting a date here?” She asks curiously, dramatically gesturing to you and Jisung. “Are your moms around? Mrs. Han? Mrs. Y/L/N?”
“T-They’re at our restaurant.” You stammer out this time, eyes glancing over to Jaemin just a few feet away. He doesn’t look back at you, having gone back to scrolling through his phone, but your eyes unconsciously drift over to him while Mrs. Park’s not looking, anyway, suddenly feeling awkward. “We’re leaving after this, actually for my parents’ company dinner.”
After bumping into your mom, Mrs. Han, and Mrs. Hwang together at the reunion party, your next natural fear is seeing Mrs. Park and your most recent almost blind date from last year, her nephew Jaemin—though he’s the only nice one among everyone who’s been set up with you, you eventually ended up evading him and his offer of free movie tickets to any movie house in Seoul until his aunt stopped asking you for updates because you just didn’t feel like seeing him romantically.
You didn’t think it’d be this soon, especially since Jisung practically missed this entire mini drama in person last year, only hearing a few mentions of it in your personal chat.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Park’s eyes widen at your previous statement, moving along with you when your line moves forward. “Really? We had lunch there at 11! Pity we didn’t bump into you.” She gestures a lot with her hands and sighs before glancing over her shoulder to her children and Jaemin. “Anyway, you should say hello to Jaemin. He’s been asking about you and he couldn’t believe that you and Jisung are dating!”
“Oh, um,” Your eyes glance back and forth between Mrs. Park and Jisung now, the latter looking back at you with a raised eyebrow in clear confusion. “It’s okay, we’re—”
But, as if your last comment flew past Mrs. Park, she hurriedly gestures for Jaemin to approach you. With her back momentarily turned to you, Jisung shakes your upper arm once and asks, “Hey, didn’t you message me before that—”
“Yeah, Jaemin was Mrs. Park’s last blind date offer.” Simultaneously, you hurriedly explain to him just before Mrs. Park returns her gaze to you once again and Jaemin joins your group, waving hello to you and Jisung. “Hi, J-Jaemin!”
Next to you, realization dawns on Jisung and he slowly mimics your greeting, “Hi...Jaemin, long time no see, bro.”
“Hey, how are you?” Jaemin asks with a small smile, more to you than Jisung whose offer for a high-five he unintentionally misses. “Y/N, you stopped messaging me last summer before we could go on that movie; then the next thing I hear you’re dating Han Jisung!”
You smile back, equally as awkward as Jisung putting his free hand back to his side. “I got really busy last summer working at one of our restaurants so I couldn’t take you up on that movie offer.” You explain, chuckling along when Mrs. Park laughs. “Jisung and I just started dating last month, though, so it’s not because of him.”
“Oh,” Jaemin muses, finally acknowledging Jisung after by turning to him. “Weren’t you in Malaysia the entirety of last year though, Jisung?”
This time, it’s Jisung nodding. “Yeah but we started dating long distance.” He explains almost proudly, slinging an arm over your shoulder now.
You feel Jisung’s grip on your shoulder blades too tightly, making you nudge him with the same shoulder once for him to loosen up a bit but he doesn’t hold his guard down one bit.
In front of you, Jaemin nods, completely oblivious to the way he’s making Jisung react. “Yeah, so I’ve heard! Anyway, congrats to you two, you both look cute together!” He grins in genuine happiness while Mrs. Park nods along, making you sigh in relief and Jisung to finally loosen up next to you. “Jisung, my movie tickets offer to Y/N still stands but you can totally use it together now, it’s cool.”
“Thank you but—” You begin to kindly reject until Jisung butts in.
“Thanks, I’ll keep that in mind!” Your best friend beams back with a contrasting tensed figure next to you before glancing over your shoulders and shifting the conversation, “Oh, Y/N, babe, we’re next in line.”
You follow his line of vision and, indeed, the man at check-out is already motioning for you to approach the counter. “Right...right.” You mumble in agreement before turning to Mrs. Park. “Um, I’m sorry Mrs. Park, Jaemin, we have to go now.”
“Well, we can’t keep this long line waiting now, right?” Mrs. Park concludes while Jaemin nods along sheepishly. “We’ll be on our way now, then! It was nice seeing you.”
“Yeah, it was nice seeing you.” Jaemin repeats to you and Jisung, waving goodbye this time. “See you around, okay?”
“See you!” Jisung replies courteously for the two of you. “Happy New Year again!”
“Happy New Year, too, dears! See you around!” Mrs. Park then concludes your conversation.
With that, your small crowd then parts ways with Jaemin and Mrs. Park going back in their lane while Jisung gently directs you to the check-out counter with his hand on your shoulder, the other handing your plush toys to the check-out once you’ve reached it.
“Cash or card?” The man at check-out asks politely, swiping your purchase across the scanner. The lady next to him then carefully places your plush toys inside decorative paper bags for New Year’s before returning it to Jisung.
“Card, please.” You cough awkwardly before giving your card to the man with slightly shaky hands, Jisung’s arm on your shoulder not leaving your side even when he reaches over the counter to get your plush toys.
Looking up at Jisung, you find him looking back at you with a curious expression after. “What now?” He asks with a pout, as if expecting you to react similarly to last Christmas. “What did I say this time?”
“What?” You shoot the question back at him as your card is returned to you and the two of you now leave the store. “I just looked at you.”
You actually wanted to ask him why he was holding you in front of Jaemin like that a while ago but quickly dismissed the thought, cringing internally.
Walking outside Mumuso now and out of Mrs. Park’s sight, Jisung only pulls you closer to him as you now walk back to your restaurant, swinging your paper bag on his other side. “You’re thinking of something.” He points out, leaning close to your ear once again when you find yourself in the middle of a big crowd. “Did Jaemin do something you didn’t mention to me on chat last year?”
"I’m not? And no, he didn’t do anything” You snicker in amusement, elbowing him gently. “It’s nothing, I swear. You’re delusional, dummy.”
“So why didn’t you go to the movies with him?” He smoothly changes the topic after a moment, glancing at you expectantly as you walk. “Jaemin’s nice, unlike Mrs. Park’s other nephews, and his parents invest in really cool stuff so you can always get movie tickets and backstage passes from him.”
“I really was busy last summer.” You reason out, leading the two of you carefully at noticing how Jisung’s only paying half attention to your path ahead.
“Ya, but not busy enough to stop bothering me on chat while I was touring.” He points out. “You know, with or without Mrs. Park, you can still go out with him as friends, you know, the movie ticket’s still going to be free, anyway.”
“Yeah, but,” You sigh, hesitantly sharing after a moment, “it just...it felt weird since he asked me under the impression of his aunt setting us up—and I’ve always known he liked Lee Jeno.”
Jisung hums in thought before a thought crosses his mind, “So, if he asked you on his own, as a serious date and without thinking about Jeno, would you have said yes?”
You think about this for a moment, just as you arrive back in the restaurant where your mom is now parting ways with Mrs. Han.
“Y/N!” Your mom calls for you as you and Jisung approach and thus initially preventing you from answering Jisung’s question, some of your shared shopping bags in her arms. Only then do you notice the presence of your driver, Mr. Yoon, who carries the others for her. “Say goodbye to Jisung and Mrs. Han now, dear, we’re going home.”
“And, Jisung, we’re stopping by the tailor to get the jeans I left there a while back.” Mrs. Han reminds her son before turning to you and extending her arms out for a hug. “Come here, dear, let me say goodbye to you properly!”
You look at Jisung who only rubs the nape of his neck sheepishly, wordlessly gesturing for you to accept his mom’s hug with a tilt of his head. With that, you then take a step forward, turning your back to him briefly to give Mrs. Han a hug.
“Thank you for today, Mrs. Han.” You hug her briefly, until she pulls away to affectionately smile up at you. “See you again soon!”
“You have fun at your company dinner tonight, okay? And please, just call me auntie!” Mrs. Han pats your hair delightfully before letting you go, turning to Jisung after. “Okay, Sungie, let’s go so we can go home quickly too.”
Over your shoulder, you see Jisung nod at his mom before gesturing over to you. “Yeah, let me just give Y/N something.” He says, holding up the paper bag he holds in one hand and making his mom gush.
“Okay, then!” Mrs. Han says, taking a step back now to help your mom and Mrs. Yoon to collect your things. “How adorable!”
Only then do you turn back around to Jisung, receiving your stuff hamster from him. “Thanks.” You smile at him, squeezing the plush toy once in your hand before looking up at him again. “And about a while ago—”
Jisung’s eyes immediately perk up in curiosity, “Yeah?”
“I doubt Jaemin would ask as a serious date but either way,” You shrug nonchalantly, “I’d probably turn him down, still. We’re not that close, anyway, and I’m dating you so it’d be weird.”
The last statement catches Jisung off-guard, even though you said it with no underlying meaning or whatsoever, too long that by the time he’s already gathered his thoughts, you, your mom, and Mr. Yoon are already on your way out of the restaurant.
“See you on campus, ugly.” You playfully elbow him by his side as you pass by him on your way out, mumbling the nickname so only the two of you can hear.
“Y-Yeah,” Jisung blinks twice in a daze, watching you until you disappear outside. “see you on campus...huh.”
Tumblr media
You find yourself at your first party of the year hours later as scheduled, this time in your own house with extended family and key people in your family’s company. Instinctively, you cling onto your cousins Jeongin and Lia as the three of you try your best evading your actual blood relative aunts and uncles while they’re still sober and can still ask invasive questions.
As the time on your phone nears 9 PM, the three of you take refuge in your bedroom with two liters of Cola and snacks you stole from the buffet table and random YouTube videos playing from your laptop that serves more as background noise while you gossip than actual entertainment.
“I can’t believe you just went along with Han Jisung telling your mom and his that you’re dating.” Jeongin shakes his head in disbelief as he sips on his Cola. “That’s crazy, so unlike you, cousin.”
“It was that or Mrs. Park’s nephews, I’m telling you!” You insist for the third time, chewing on gummy worms. “Anyway, at least it’s him and not someone I’m not that close too so I don’t have to adjust much. Don’t you like Jisung?”
In front of you, Lia shrugs hesitantly, “I mean I like him, I guess: he’s your other other best friend and he’s cool with everyone.”
“So why do you two sound like you don’t like him?” You point accusingly, leaning back nervously on your bed frame.
“It’s not him! We’re just processing this whole fake dating thing since it’s not really something you’d most likely be into doing willingly.” Lia answers honestly. “Personally, I didn’t know that the sorority aunties bothered you this bad to agree with such a thing.”
“You’re not going to be so showy and affectionate with it, right?” Jeongin asks. “‘Cause that would be weird and gross.”
You roll your eyes, kicking him by his crossed legs in annoyance, “Of course not, just when necessary; by that, I mean until everyone lays of all the blind dates for a long while or when there’s another event then naturally we have to be seen together.”
Jeongin smacks your foot with a pillow in response. “So when are you breaking up? Are you two going to Chan’s wedding together as dates?”
“I don’t know yet,” You shrug at the first question, taking a sip of your own Cola before continuing, “and either way, we’re going to Chan’s wedding together.”
“Hm,” Lia muses this time, reaching in between the two of you for a packet of chocolate candies. “Then don’t break up before, during, or a little while after the wedding because it’d be weird for everyone, especially us as your mutual friends.”
“Definitely not.” You agree with a nod. “So, how about you, Jeongin? Are you and Seungmin going together?”
Looking up at Jeongin, you see him pouting, “Probably but I haven’t asked him about that yet.”
“Why do you need to ask him? It’s not like you haven’t gone to other events together before.”
“Yeah but Seungmin started seeing someone lately so I don’t know if I can still tag along with him on the wedding.” Jeongin pouts at you as he opens a small candy for himself. “And I don’t want to go with you and Jisung this time since you’re ‘dating.’“
“Then go with Hyunjin and Minho if you don’t want to hang out with me.” You pout. “You know Yeji, Lia, and Ryujin are going to stick together the whole time and, hopefully, Ryujin finally asks out that girl from one of our lab classes so just stick with Hyunjin and Minho—unless, of course, you want to hang out with your brothers or the younger kids at the wedding.”
You see Jeongin silently contemplating on this idea for a moment, chewing on his candy then taking a sip of his Cola once he manages to break it with his teeth. “Hm, I guess that’s okay now—Hyunjin and Minho, I mean: chaotic but better than third wheeling the whole ceremony and reception.” He muses out loud. “I think I’ll pass hanging out with the sort of adults group my older brother and Jisung’s older brother have unofficially formed and I’m definitely not joining the younger kids!”
“Perks of having close-knit families, I guess.” You chuckle between more sips of Cola. “How come your mom allows you and your brothers to skip the sorority reunion parties whenever you want to, by the way? It’s not like you’re studying abroad or something.”
At that, Jeongin grins mischievously at you before taking a longer sip of his Cola. “Unlike auntie, my mom’s a cool mom.” He giggles. “She understands that my brothers and I prioritize finishing video games at home over having to face her college friends and endure really weird questions.”
The last thought makes you sigh, “I’m seriously jealous, I want to stay at home whenever the reunion parties come up, too. It’s not like I have anything much to show off to the sorority aunties, anyway.”
But Lia waves her hand dismissively at you in disagreement this time, “Yeah but you met and grew closer with your best friend over the years because of such parties, right? He might be your ‘annoying best friend’ as you always call him by but I can see you enjoy his company the most.”
You don’t respond immediately this time, getting caught off guard by the thought.
When you don’t speak, Lia chews her sour worms quickly and adds, “Maybe you’ve just been blinded by being annoyed over the toxic questions the aunties would ask that you don’t appreciate much the fact that you met most of your closest friends now—not to mention your ‘boyfriend,’ too—because your mom is so strict with you attending these parties.”
“So you’re saying I should just put up with the invasive aunties because I met good friends through them?” You feign a scowl, though you know that’s not what he means. “That’s not really a healthy mindset.”
And as expected, your cousin quickly shakes her head. “No, I mean it’s better that you focus more on the friends aspect than on the aunties aspect.” She explains more clearer now. “especially now that almost everyone in your group’s graduating this semester and you guys are probably going to be busy with your respective businesses after. Not to mention, Chan’s getting married and will probably take over their family business soon! That’s soon serious adulting stuff!”
“...huh,” You trail of contemplatively after a while, sipping your Cola once. “I never thought of it that way.”
Jeongin grins cheekily, “That’s because you don’t think at all.”
“Ya!” You smack him again playfully with a pillow, making him laugh. “Shut up.”
The three of you laugh lightheartedly over his witty comeback anyway, catching your breath only when you hear your mom’s footsteps nearing the hallway, probably trying to find you.
“Shit.” You mutter under your breath, a hand to your mouth as you stifle in your laughs and carefully watch your mom’s shadow pass over your door. “Do you think she’s looking for us?”
“For what? Another one of the non-family partners trying to meet you and Lia and set you up on a date with one of their children again like my older brother?” Jeongin teases, moving in between you and Lia nervously when your mom’s shadow hovers by the door from your view of its gaps.
You silently smack his arm with your hand this time, exhaling in relief when your mom finally leaves, most likely to pick something up from her room. “What are you talking about? You heard my mom bragging about Jisung a while back.” You retort. “If anything, maybe she’s looking for you and Lia and setting you up.”
Jeongin sits up straighter now, transferring your laptop where he sat a while back then leaning against your bed frame too. “But you know how they can be, always on our tails and getting on the parents’ good graces.” He shrugs. “That’s just business, I guess.”
“Right, because you’re minoring in business.” You roll your eyes with a chuckle, twisting your upper body so you’re facing Jeongin on your left. “But that’s not my problem right now since I’m dating. I’d look out for you, if you ask me.”
“Yes but you’re ‘fake dating’ not actually dating.” He points out teasingly. “You eventually have to ‘break up’ like most relationships, too. What will you do then?”
Deep inside, you answer the question with a ‘no.’ Outwards, you shrug, seemingly unconvinced, “Still, not my problem right now.”
Then, as if on dramatic cue, your mom knocks on the door. “Y/N, Jeongin, Lia are you in there? Some of the new investors and partners want to meet you!” She yells from the other side, her voice coming out muffled from where you sit. “And Grandma and Grandpa just arrived so say hello to them!”
You groan and Jeongin laughs while Lia only sighs, Jeongin downing what remains of his Cola. “That’s our cue.” He says, standing up first before helping Lia up then you. “Told you.”
“I’m going to laugh if you end up getting trapped by any of our moms.” You hiss at him, picking up your trash and taking it with you as the three of you leave the room.
“We’ll see,” Lia shrugs. “I’m sticking straight to Grandma!”
