Do you think the Nine Houses follow a Marxist, Keynsian, or Austrians economic model
this ask made me SO happy you have no idea! some vague thoughts
The Houses obviously have to do careful resource allocation. I doubt they have a free market economy, at least not on a system-wide scale. I could see some of the Houses — like the Third or Fifth Houses, which are by all accounts wealthy and with a very large population — develop some kind of internal capitalist economy within the House itself. Namely, private actors who control and own properties, wealth accumulation, competitive markets etc. But ultimately I think even those are subject to strong (local) governmental oversight because, again, they live on space installations in a situation of constant resource constraint. I bet there are quotas for everything.
However! No way ALL the Houses have a market economy. I'm thinking especially those Houses that are very small and/or have a "mission" which means that societal development is carefully planned, and probably the economy is also centrally planned. (Ninth, Eight, Sixth, maybe Second and/or Fourth).
On an overreaching scale (within the Home System) I don't think "the Empire" (as in, John) is overly concerned with the yearly economic development of the Houses, partly because he's been historically absent for decades or even centuries at a time. Verging sharply into headcanon territory, I think the closest thing the Houses have to a real centralised government is military leadership (High Command or the Fleet Admiral, who's the head of the Second House) and when it comes to issues that concern multiple Houses but are more "civilian" in nature, is kind of a free-for-all. I'm thinking about how Harrow thought that writing to ask for help would result in the Fifth or maybe the Third cannibalising the Ninth House — it looks like there's an informal council of House leaders, but no properly organised central government.
Trade: travel and commerce between the Houses is regulated. You can't just take a spaceship and move from the Eight to the Second, for example — movement of people as well as goods depends on a ship schedule that runs on "routes" and I'd bet there's an immigration/emigration quota that's maybe decided between specific House leaders, or maybe a third party. My best bet is that one of the Houses (possibly the Third or Fifth) OR an ad-hoc organisation (which includes multiple higher-ups from said well-off Houses) are the ones who regulate shipping and travel, and either have an ownership stake in the shipping system or administrate it in the name of the Emperor.
The shepherded planets: putting the "imperialism" in "Empire". The Houses definitely exploit their colony planet for resources, as per AYU (talking about the "contracts" that the Empire signs with the occupied planets). However, it's also worth noting that 1) for at least 5000 years, the House system was self-sustaining and hadn't made contact with any other population; and 2) stele travel is kind of a hassle, and only seems to be limited to Cohort ships that we know of.
What I'm getting at is that I think the economy of the Houses is not dependent on their war of conquest — imo it's more of a mission of conquest for conquest's sake, see Corona thinking that the economy of the Houses doesn't quite add up, and Augustine talking like the ongoing expansion of the Houses is a whim of John's and little else. Basically, it seems to be a way to oppress the occupied planet for occupation's sake, and I wouldn't be surprised if the resources the Houses extract from the conquered planets go straight into financing yet more war and occupation and very little (if any) of any wealth they may accumulate makes it back to the Houses.
It COULD be that there's a necromantic equivalent of the East India Company, and my bet would be on the Second administrating it — Harrow doesn't seem to rate them at all, which tracks because Harrow's primary concern is Houses that could be a threat to the Ninth, and the Second being focused on exploitation that's external to the Home System could be an explanation for that. I've also seen speculation that making money from colonialism is the Fifth House's purview (*) but EYE think it makes more sense if the House that are more strongly associated with running the war effort are also the ones making money from it. Or it could be a joint operation.
(*) never forget the iconic tag #we regret to inform you that spreadsheets dad is maybe running the necromantic East India Company @katakaluptastrophy here)
Anyway. Sorry I haven't answered your actual question! GUN TO MY HEAD, if I had to pick ONE economic model to map the Houses onto, I wanna say soviet type economy (think: centralised planning, no inflation, little to no unemployment, tendency towards black market, little to no innovation). I have thoughts about what the consumer needs market looks like in the Houses but nobody needs to hear that. Also, it's def very limited
If anyone has thoughts PLEASE feel free to jump in, I'm always thinking about the logistical side of space imperialism in the necro empire!

will not shut up about how bluey's 30 min episode gave us so much more lore and references to the real world
the writes really made so much literal and euphemistic use of the word "sign" in this episode
in chronological order! and spoilers below!!
do let me know if I missed anything out!
FRISKY AND RAD'S WEDDING!!!! in the iconic heeler house!!
bandit's bully bucky dunstan being the real estate agent selling his house
English sheepdog buying the bluey house (emigration - would be nicer if they got english voice actors to voice them though)
the bluey house was actually for sale on an Australian real estate website! and as per the time of writing this post, it's been "withdrawn from sale" - the bluey digital marketing team AMAZES ME.
I wonder which city bandit got a new job in - don't know if they'll explore that in future seasons
bluey's friend the brown dog (I'm sorry I don't know his name) having 2 mums!
winton talking about his divorced parents and the terriers' saying their mom likes winton's dad!!!
jack and his army interest! him and rusty playing army!!
the sitting in a tree, kissing thing that kids do
Jeremy the gnome
bobo being the car's name
frisky's licence plate being fr15k
the first time kids sit in the front seat of the car
police officers pulling people on the road over LMAO
rad's profile picture being him goofing around with his 2 brothers
how realistic it is trying not to lose someone you're following on the road
the butterfly from slide!! 🦋 it has a name! flappy!
everyone being afraid of the butterfly except bingo because we know she loves insects!
chilli reminiscing how she and frisky used to go to the lookout to "think" when we all knew she meant drink LOL
frisky's 3rd friend appears!
BRANDY IS PREGNANT???
the canon in d rendition as bgm
the busker being the priest??
also they got mort and maynard to come attend the wedding too!!
frisky's father is a typical surfer dude lmao
we see trixie standing amongst the girls during the bouquet toss. and then we see stripe come in to intercept the toss. does this mean that stripe and trixie are not married yet and have just been cohabitating? stripe grabs the bouquet and celebrates, but we see trixie face palm... what does this mean??
love the photo montage and the huge family photo, how it shows that you can't get everybody to be ready for the photo
AFTERPARTY
GRANDPA BOB WENT TO INDIA TO FIND HIMSELF 😭 man needed spiritual rediscovery
the busker is the music dj too!!
uh oh... stripe and trixie are fighting... perhaps it was about the bouquet toss? and we see socks playing with the cake toppers - possibly mimicking her parents actions
awww Radley quit his job so that frisky could stay in a city she loved ❤️
they brought back the music from dance mode!
NANA AND BOB FLOSSING!!!
chattermax randomly appearing 😭
bingo getting stuck in the railing again
bingo being sad because she has to move and lila won't be able to follow. which is also the moment I realised they won't be moving in the end, because of the montage at the end of daddy drop-off episode where bingo and lila grow up together and be friends "forever and ever and ever"!
the 2 English sheepdogs pushing their fluff away from their eyes to see haha
THEM SEEING WINTON'S DAD'S HOUSE WITH A POOL WHICH IS FOR SALE BECAUSE THEYRE MOVING IN WITH THE TERRIERS AND THEIR MOTHER!! THEY ALL FIT IN ONE CAR!!!
seeing the iconic bluey house empty, with spots where furniture used to be somehow makes me feel a little empty and nostalgic
the montage of them saying goodbye to their old neighbours, bandit having one last chat with pat, the girls and chilli saying goodbye to judo and her mum
Judo still has short hair!
chilli reminiscing the kitchen because bluey took her first steps there
WHO SANG THAT SONG IN THE END PLEASE RELEASE IT LUDO STUDIOS
THE SHEEPDOGS WENT BACK ON THEIR DECISION TO BUY BLUEYS HOUSE TO BUY WINTON'S DAD HOUSE
you can tell how much chilli didn't want to move as she was the first one out of the car running over to hug him when she realised bandit didn't want to sell the house anymore. and the shoulder shakes shows that she was fully sobbing too
iconic kiwi rug! loved the simplicity of the last scene, where even if there's nothing around you, as long as you're together with the people you love, eating the simplest meal, enjoying the moment, that's family.

== Love Notes ==
Alright lovelies. We've run out of Rhys videos for a few days so you're back to me being irritatingly loving at you! I saw this today on The Latest Kate's instagram and it reminded me of a few things I wanted to say. My brain is a bit covid-fogged so apologies if it's a bit wibbly wobbly.
We all struggle with so many little and big things in our lives. Whether it's mental health, self esteem, a physical ailment, love, lonliness, self-identity, family, friends, world conflicts, or anything, I could go on and on.
I know sometimes it feels like you are pushing so hard and you start making so much progress-- and then something, big or little stalls everything and you feel like you're having to start from scratch again.
I just want to send you a gentle reminder that progress isn't always linear. Just because you have lost momentum doesn't mean you've lost your progress. Every single situation is a learning opportunity and every time you run into a new hurdle, you learn from the last one.
You are wonderfully intelligent, kind, precious, complex people and no matter what you're dealing with, no matter how small or how big, you are moving forward and making headway bits at a time. Remember to be kind to yourself and don't beat yourself up for bad days.
We are so proud of you lovelies, remember that.

"I must go through a complete withdrawal. Remove her from my system. It was the same with opium."
-Thomas, season 4 ep 2: Speak as ye choose
'It was the same with opium'
Opium is a highly addictive non-synthetic narcotic that is extracted from the poppy plant, Papaver somniferum. The opium poppy is the key source for many narcotics, including morphine, codeine, and heroin.
Was Thomas a drug addict? Maybe so, but there's more:
Early in the 18th century* the Portuguese found that they could import opium from India and sell it in China at a considerable profit. By 1773 the British had discovered the trade, and that year they became the leading suppliers of the Chinese market.
And:
Thomas Thorne, born: 1796
Died: 10 October 1824 (aged 28)
Well?? Was our favourite recency poet an opium addict??

I try not to be negative here. Like there's just too much negativity in this webbed site as is and I don't wanna add on to it
BUT god it's so hard not to shit on Mihoyo's character designs
Like I could write a whole fucking essay on why Yae Miko maybe has the ONLY good character design in Inazuma, and how Kokomi's and Raiden's designs are an affront to character design
Not to mention how much I could dunk on how pasty white the entirety of their fantasy India is
...but that would take like an ungodly amount of words and effort and ranting, and like I said I wanna keep negativity to a minimum
so instead I'm gonna do a little "bulk dunk" and go for the entirety of HSR in one go
quick disclaimer that I still play and enjoy these games and Jingliu has me by the balls no matter how painfully boring her character design actually is
ALRIGHT LET'S GO!
I guess it goes without saying that the design of any character in a gacha game is created with only a single thought in mind and that is: MASS MARKET APPEAL!
Which means the characters are meant to be PRETTY and their designs are meant for immediate appeal, not to actually inform the character
This results in some...weirdness
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like the fact that the Natasha (girl on the left) raised Seele (girl on the right) from childhood and used to run an orphanage, meaning she's much MUCH older than Seele, even tho they look about the same age
Okay Nat does look a little older, but no one is allowed to look old in this game
Something that becomes extra clear with
Tumblr media
Serval! Who you'd be forgiven for thinking is a young adult playing for a rock band, and not a middle aged disgraced scientist who used to be in a rock band.
And yeah she's supposed to be AT LEAST in her 30s, because girl is the same age as Cocolia and that woman is a mother to an adult woman by the time we meet her
Oh and speaking of Nat and Serval, you've now seen 2/3s of all characters with ANY FORM OF BLEMISHES ON THEIR SKIN!
Nat has a spot on her chin, and Serval has a tattoo on her hip
Last one is Arlan
Tumblr media
My man has the only two scars in this whole ass video game. He's also the only dark skinned character. He follows a pattern set by Xinyan and Dehya in Genshin, by being dark skin rep, carrying a big sword, and sucking absolute ass
But okay these characters are pretty, but there's nothing wrong with keeping characters pretty. Well, there is when their prettiness goes against what their character is supposed to be
So Belobog's story is one of class struggle in a military state that is holding back a never ending catastrophe. The entire population of the world is just one big walled city holding back the cold.
In it the rich and powerful live in the Overworld, where they have museums and theaters and grand statues, and a massive building from which their rulers can pass judgement.
The Underworld is mostly just a giant fucking mine where the lower class people are forced to work 24/7 in order to get food and medicine from the Overworld in the hopes that they'll keep surviving.
Underworld characters are survivors who have been struggling every day of their lives and have NEVER SEEN SUNLIGHT BEFORE
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah guys I can really get hardworking survivor from these two
But I mean that is just ONE planet, it can't be a thing for EVERY world, right? ...right?
So the Xianzhou Luofu is... a lot. Like it would take a long time to explain everything that is up with those guys, but the big themes here are stuff around chronic illness, memories, PTSD, war time trauma, and a whole bunch of stuff about aging
Like here are two characters who are veterans of war. One is constantly overwhelmed by her own traumatic memories, causing her to go into violent dissociative episodes.
The other one lost her copilot/best friend/rival/love of her life (YOU CANNOT CONVINCE ME SHE ISN'T GAY, MIHOYO) in battle, and the trauma of that loss has left her terrified of flying again, living the rest of her life in the shadow of this one monumental event
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...yeah I don't see it either
But hey don't worry, this game believes in gender equality, and that means the men are also just very pretty and very boring
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like the Luofu's messiest polycule, who are all millennia old pretty boys made with the sole purpose of making the straight women in the fanbase call them "daddy"
Well at least Blade has spider lily symbolism, which is like always a plus for me
Okay
That's it
That's all the dunking I have for HSR. I exorcised the angry grumpy critic from my system, and can go back to being positive and loving things again.
And I mean these games make more money than I can ever even conceptualize, so maybe I'm the one who is wrong
Oh also
Tumblr media
Clara is perfect and objectively the best character design in this game, don't fucking @ me!

MileApo x Dior update
Reporters are asking about working with Dior, Po said wait for the good news coming soon. Wait for the official announcement…
Apo: What news will there be coming soon
Q: Will there be any titles coming from working the brand? The fans are wondering/hoping there’ll be a title for you
Apo: Have to wait and see krub. It might or just from the fashion side, it could be from movie, work, or even the film ManSuang, (we’d/I’d) like to stay tune for what’s going surprise everyone
Translation by MileApo Safe Place
I had mentioned in the Dior Gateway to India press roundup that Hello! India might have jumped the gun on announcing the Dior ambassadorship in their coverage or possibly misunderstood the invite... it looks more like the former is the truth now.
Additionally, I'd mentioned this in response to anon about Dior:
Dior might be testing the waters of how much bang they’re going to get for their buck too. I had also thought, given the ambitious nature of Man Suang at international film festivals circuit, a high fashion brand might want the exclusive rights to dress them for all the red carpets, which for BOC could be very lucrative. Putting Mile and Apo in front for Dior seems to be part of a larger strategy at LVMH. LV is the stable brand that drives the highest volume and sets the average, but LVMH has been vesting a lot of effort into making Dior a giant.
Apo's comments seem to be validating that that might be what's in negotiation too.
Finally, on the bang-for-their-buck and digital strategy element, that wasn't just a throwaway comment--! Hot off the press, Lefty.io just published their most influential figures at the Dior pre-fall show (Gateway to India)
Tumblr media
This is what EMV stands for:
What Is Earned Media Value? Earned Media Value is an influencer marketing metric that's used to quantify the value of social media content. EMV measures engagement with social media content about a brand that is created by a third party.
I don't care about other celebrities or whatever, but as a point of reference you can look at other EMV values they generated in these tweets for reference: (1) (2) (3)
If you bother to click the tweets, there are some other Thai actors on the list including Bright and Win (from you know. that couple). Mile and Apo clearly still lag behind them, but for a year out of one successful show it's pretty decent, and brands are really starting to see the impact of the Thai media in international soft power realm.
Finally, in terms of Dior's overall strategy, this is on overview of their digital push:
(this one is for SS2023 show, which happened in October 2022 - MA attended none of these shows)
Tumblr media
(For FW2023 which is the show Apo attended)
Tumblr media
This is why when I and annoying other fan clubs or posters encourage you to engage with Twitter and IG posts - that's why. Brands can see the impact of the engagement directly translating into marketing value and will encourage further high-value sponsors with their projects.
I don't have Mile's numbers for the Pre-fall show nor am I giving this company my info to get it, but I would be surprised if it was below $1M. But anyway, please continue to engage with posts not just on Tumblr. It does make a difference.

#2
The other teachers had warned her about the Snape boy. There was something not quite right with the boy, even if no one could put their finger on what exactly was wrong.
He daydreamed. He asked too many questions in class. He was prone to flights of fancy. He took everything you said too literally. His homework would either be on time or complete but never both. He passed every exam. His failure to understand basic concepts meant he ought to have been held back a year. He was already socially stunted without being held back. The boy only had make-believe friends to ostracize him, so what would it have mattered if he'd repeated a year? Was it not punishment enough to have to try and teach him for one year, now you want to add another year to my sentence?
She was younger and maybe didn't know as much as her peers. She certainly saw what they saw, but there were also glimpses of something more. Once she saw his scores on the pre-test for the Eleven-Plus exam she thought she had the answer.
Underneath his unkempt exterior was a exceptional mind. Snape had put up the top score on the pre-test for his entire year, not just his class. His brilliance explained so much of what was wrong with the boy -- the late homework, the daydreaming, the lack of friends.
Given the strength of his creative writing she wondered if she wasn't mentoring the next Lewis or Tolkien.
She'd been so ecstatic about his results that she'd held him back after class to tell him the good news. That with his scores he could go on scholarship to one of the better public schools and from there maybe to Oxford or Cambridge. He'd have to work on his study habits and how to pay attention in class but she'd help him with that if he wanted to do more than work in the mill.
He'd shrugged and said that his mother had made plans to send him off for his schooling, but he couldn't recall where.
Perhaps there was a rich great aunt willing to put in a good word for him to an admissions board... but that seemed unlikely, given the type of people who lived in Cokeworth.
She just wasn't getting through to the boy. Despite his brilliance he was still just turned eleven. He could hardly be expected to understand the magnitude of the opportunity in front of him, waiting for him to grasp it.
She'd decided a chat with his mother was in order and sent him home with a note asking her to come speak with her. A note that went unanswered, even though the boy swore he'd given it to her. After several ignored notes she'd pinned one to the boy's jacket, only for him to return the next day with the note still attached to his collar.
She'd pulled his student file in exasperation and was shocked to see that not only did his family not have telephone, but the address was still over in Spinner's End. There'd been a big to-do in the paper a year ago about the last residents of the neighborhood moving into the new council estates. The neighborhood now was just another cemetery monument to Cokeworth's shortlived glory during the Industrial Revolution, before cheap cotton and cheaper labor from India and the Americas had destroyed the market. No one should still be living there, but the boy would give her no other answer when pressed about where his family was living now.
She intended several times to march down there and ask Mrs. Snape just what she thought she was doing ignoring her notes, raising her son in such a place, didn't this woman know that she was trying to help. Every time she tried something turned her off from it. She was afraid of being there after dark, her heel broke, and one time she'd been bizarrely certain that she'd left the gas on in her apartment even though she had an electric cooktop.
In the end she'd been forced to concede defeat when despite his scores on the Eleven-Plus no school bothered to request his records. They'd gone in the box to head back to the council administration offices along with the records on all the other children who'd disappeared without a trace.

2023 Reading Log, pt. 15
I am behind on my writeups: the last book here I read the week of Thanksgiving!
Tumblr media
71. The Body Fantastic by Frank Gonzalez-Crussi. This book made for a surprisingly relevant pivot from Cult of the Dead, as it starts with talking about how Christianity has made a long history from denying and denigrating the flesh. This book is a miscellany of odd medical trivia and historical beliefs about the human body, from wandering wombs to the curative power of saliva. As someone who’s read a lot of medical history books, this one didn’t stand out so much to me, but it would probably be a good starting point for someone looking to learn some of the odder highways and byways of how people have thought about bodies. The author’s sensibilities are philosophical, leaning mystical, and his personality shines through. This is particularly true in matters of food and drink—he feels disgust over eating competitions having gone hungry in his youth, for example.
Tumblr media
72. Eight Bears by Gloria Dickie. As the name suggests, this book covers all of the extant bear species, although more from a cultural and conservation perspective than evolution or ecology. The author travels around the world in an attempt to see all of the bears in the wild, or at least in local captivity (such as going to a panda preserve in China). I think the book’s strongest chapters are the ones in South Asia, where she sees how in India, humans and sloth bears are being pressed into conflict through land use, and the waning in visibility but still strong market in bear bile in Vietnam. I was also pretty surprised about the chapter closest to home—how the black bears in Yosemite National Park were outright fed by park management for decades as a tourist attraction before the realization that, wait, getting large strong omnivores used to associating humans with food is a bad decision.
Tumblr media
73. The Delusions of Crowds by William J. Bernstein. This is an odd one. It poses itself essentially as a sequel to Charles Mackay’s Memoirs of Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds, a book about mass hysteria and fads from the 1840s. It narrows down Mackay’s wide scope to two major domains—economic bubbles and millenialist religion, and then progresses in a roughly chronological order. The problems are two fold. One, the narrative never really draws much linkage between these two types of “delusions of crowds”, leaving the book feeling disjointed. Second, the author assumes a lot about the reader’s background in economics (possibly because he’s an economist himself), so the explanations of the exact financial chicanery involved in the various bubbles are not always fully comprehensible. I wanted to like this book a lot more than I actually did.
Tumblr media
74. Spirit Beings in European Folklore 2 by Benjamin Adamah. The second of four volumes, this covers primarily north-central and north-east Europe. Germany, Finland and the Netherlands get the most attention. The monsters contained within include a lot of house and field spirits, as well as many variations of alps and other sleep paralysis monsters. Again, what monsters the author decides fall into his category of “spirit beings” and which ones don’t is somewhat arbitrary. Tatzelwurms and stollenwurms, for example, are listed, even when more traditional dragons are not. I also think that the author needs to be more careful with their word choice, and/or spend more time studying folklore as a whole. For example, the book talks about the spoukhoas, a ghostly hare from the Netherlands. It talks about the spoukhoas as being a “were-hare”, despite the only lycanthrope-like trait in the entry being its vulnerability to silver… which is not universal to werewolves, and only became inexorably linked to werewolves due to Hollywood. No references to being a person at all!
Tumblr media
75. Saurian: A Field Guide to Hell Creek by Tom Parker, Chris Mansa and RJ Palmer. This is an art book, tied into the Saurian video game in which you play as a dinosaur. As such, the book takes an in depth look at the habitat represented by the game, and discusses the flora and fauna of the late Maastrichian South Dakota. The book is, of course, gorgeous. Both in terms of the dinosaur reconstructions and the landscapes, this makes a wonderful coffee table book. This might sound like an odd complain for a coffee table book based on a video game, but I do wish it had a bibliography. The book talks a lot about specific diets and habitat preferences of the animals within, and I want to have some sort of a guide to sorting out what’s supported by evidence, and what’s creative license.

Just putting it here rather than add to the post because it's a bit long. Maybe a slight difference of opinion here; I place what we would often call financial imperialism more or less on the same level. Denying your markets to other countries can be a form of financial imperialism, especially if you deny them to your natural geographical neighbor. Obviously, it's NOT direct that just invading with a military force, but if you can coerce a nation to go against its own interests or flail against you like a dog trapped in a steel cage, it's not that much different. My home country has spent its entire existence as an independent state under financial imperialism. That threat of pulling everything out and dooming the economy has pretty much hung in the background for nearly 2 centuries at this point. It sure has led to a lot of needless death and suffering without really needing to use bullets. As for Goo-ron or any asshole who follows them. Yeah. They are not the best guys. And their methods for solving the problem are comically counterproductive. Obviously, the fantasy setting and Goo-ron being actually evul don't help at all. And Fates doesn't give me much choice but to accept the premise given to me by the story. And I sort of feel some way of "why should I have to accept the pro-imperialist framing of the story?" Even if it's not intentionally so, we sure do spend more time on the moral bankruptcy of the weaker nation than upending the oppression carried out by the stronger one. That's where I'm coming from.
Completely valid! I didn't know that's where you were coming from, and I appreciate you educating me on this.
It's understandable to me, since I have the same opinions on how 3H handles its discussions of imperialism and trying to equalize it by finding ways to excuse Edelgard at every turn.
I didn't realize how others may look at Fates' depictions of how it handles the dynamic between Nohr and Hoshido. Doing research has led me to examples of financial oppression, such as India's time as a state under British control leading to mass famine and starvation, where they'd pull out all resources and make it impossible for the native population to sustain itself, for example.
Hoshido being voluntarily ignorant of Nohr's climate and resource crisis is similar. It gives an element of fridge horror of Fates' world to the more casual crowd, but again, it probably reads as something too close to home or even ignorant on the writers' part when it's happened in real life.
Thanks for taking the time to write this out, hope you don't mind me posting it.

My empathy is wack so I think I can handle it probably. Obviously I'll feel bad about what happened but I think I can handle most topics.
okay so. tw for massacres and artificial famine. answer will be under the cut
okay so. first of all there's a Wikipedia page about list of massacres in India. you can go to the colonial India section and look.
in particular, i want to draw your attention to the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. I'll copy paste the introduction from Wikipedia here.
"The Jallianwala Bagh massacre, also known as the Amritsar massacre, took place on 13 April 1919. A large, peaceful crowd had gathered at the Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar, Punjab, British India, to protest the Rowlatt Act and arrest of pro-independence activists Saifuddin Kitchlew and Satyapal. In response to the public gathering, the temporary brigadier general R. E. H. Dyer, surrounded the protesters with his Gurkha, Baloch, Rajput and Sikh troops from 2-9th Gurkhas, the 54th Sikhs and the 59th Scinde Rifles of the British Indian Army.[4] The Jallianwala Bagh could only be exited on one side, as its other three sides were enclosed by buildings. After blocking the exit with his troops, he ordered them to shoot at the crowd, continuing to fire even as the protestors tried to flee. The troops kept on firing until their ammunition was exhausted.[5] Estimates of those killed vary from 379 to 1,500 or more people[1] and over 1,200 other people were injured of whom 192 were seriously injured.[6][7]"
this was like the turning point for Indian Independence movement. the sheer cruelty of the British soldiers at a peaceful gathering shocked the colonial world at that time. the perpetrator, General Dyer, was dismissed from service after this. no other punishment. none. in fact, wait!
Tumblr media
this is what he got for massacring over a thousand unarmed people. yeah.
And this is just one incident. one incident of colonial British cruelty upon Indians because we were inferior to them.
oh, I haven't talked of the Bengal famine right?
quoting this article here:
"Policy lapses such as prioritising distribution of vital supplies to the military, civil services and others as well as stopping rice imports and not declaring Bengal famine hit were among the factors that led to the magnitude of the tragedy, historians have maintained."
again, towards the end,
"According to experts, following the Japanese occupation of Burma in 1942, rice imports stopped, and Bengal's market supplies and transport systems were disrupted. The British government also prioritised distribution of vital supplies to the military, civil servants and other "priority classes".
The policy failures began with the provincial government's denial that a famine existed. Humanitarian aid was ineffective through the worst months of the food crisis, and the government never formally declared a state of famine.
It first attempted to influence the price of rice, but these measures created a black market and encouraged sellers to withhold stocks."
so they literally caused a famine in Bengal. my home area. which caused the death of about 1-4 million people. i kid you not
And this does not even scratch the surface of what went on in colonial India
This is. not even 1% of what the British did to colonial India
they never teach you these things because they don't want you people to know the atrocities they'd committed in the past. they just want to paint the picture of a proud nation. no hate to you btw im just a bit mad that they do not teach y'all whatever wrong things they did to other countries. sigh
