Karanga mai,
e te moana o aku tīpuna
Ka huri au, ka rongo ki a Tangaroa
Ka hurihia, ka pūawhehia au e Tāwhiri-mātea
Whakatakina ai aku tātai
———
Call me forth
The ocean of my ancestors
I turn to, I listen to/sense Tangaroa [God of the Ocean]
I am turned and blown about Tāwhiri-mātea [God of the Wind]
In search of my heritage / Reciting my lineage

LOST GIRL PROJECT #9
Hi everyone, and welcome, to another Woodend!
For whoever's back, so glad and thankful you returned. For whoever's new to it, thank you for joining this """""little""""" fanfiction project, and please be sure to check out the introducting post for everything you have to know about it and to read its prologue, or Foreword, just as both the previous posts.
DISCLAIMER: swearing language/coarseness and hints at themes as alcoholism
So, here we are. Happy 2024, everyone!!!
It's been a busy year, but I'm glad I managed to bring this project as far as this in the meantime.
The next paragraph will switch the clock back to 1903, but until then...
This paragraph actually should have been shorter, barely describing Daniel and his thoughts after leaving the pawn shop, an idea I got from one of my favourite Disney classics, The Rescuers (1977), but especially from a Christmas classic everyone should see once in their life, Trading Places (1983 itself, coincidentally). What our OC Fueler tells, actually comes steaight out of it.
For his apartment, as you could see, I didn't really base it on the one he had, as a character, in Doctor Sleep. I actually wanted to create an ambience describing the turn his life had been taking until now.
About the twinges crashing his head, no. They are not because of his alcoholistic past. For their reason, though, you'll have to wait...
Fun fact: about Finney and Robin, the question this paragraph ends with, was the very same question I had when I left the cinema after The Black Phone (despite my shipping the two of them... 😅)
WARNING: I do not own Picnic at Hanging Rock, nor any of the other movies/series/books/songs this fanfiction was inspired from. Again, this is just a fanfiction, and a homage to many of them.

New Zealand cities ranked
The vast majority of iconic New Zealand is rural / wilderness, while the vast majority of the population live in the cities. While little of their built environment is beautiful, there are still many attractions in our largest cities. I’ve spent time in the twenty largest (according to Wikipedia), visiting all bar two (Whanganui and Hastings) multiple times, and this is how I would rank them as…

East Coast North Island
From Papamoa we travelled east, though you can't go directly east, with our next destination being Napier. We had to go through both Rotorua and Taupo on our way so took the opportunity to visit my favourite sight - mud volcanoes at Waiotapu - not the best day being a little cloudy but the mud was still bubbling nicely. From Taupo we followed the SH5 which took us through yet another different landscape this time with heather and pine trees and more evidence of logging.
We stopped briefly at Waipunga Falls but the route was quite slow going so we continued on as quickly as possible to our destination for a few days Napier. We stayed slightly outside the main town in a suburb Ahuriri which was lovely with a beach view and some fab sunsets again.
Our first expedition from Napier was on a bit of a grey and dull day to Gisborne to see Captain Cooks statue. the weather did improve on route and we did a detour to Mahia peninsula on the way which did have some amazing beaches full of logs. The roadtrip was again slow but this time due to extensive areas of roadworks as this is the area which has been affected several times by storms and hurricanes and in places you could see how the road had sipped away.
By the time we got to Gisbourne it had dried up and we were able to walk along the prim to see both Cooks statue and that of "young Nick" the surgeons boy who was the first to spot land here from the mast of the Endeavour. We also went to the spot where Cook landed in Gisborne and on the way back we saw Young Nick headland.
It was a long day just for a visit to see a statue but it was an enjoyable drive up the coast despite the roadworks.
