Heading to New Plymouth for Electricarna; a car show featuring only clean vehicles! Oddly, this EV show is in a region known for drilling oil and in a city with a council that hates electric vehicles. For years the New Plymouth District Council worked tirelessly to halt new DC charger installs but despite their efforts they finally failed and lost the fight. 😎

New Zealand cities ranked
The vast majority of iconic New Zealand is rural / wilderness, while the vast majority of the population live in the cities. While little of their built environment is beautiful, there are still many attractions in our largest cities. I’ve spent time in the twenty largest (according to Wikipedia), visiting all bar two (Whanganui and Hastings) multiple times, and this is how I would rank them as…

New Zealand Doom-Groove Crew INFINITY RITUAL Drop New Music Video
~Doomed & Stoned Debuts~
By Billy Goate
Here's an act that'll really light your fire. Hailing from New Plymouth, New Zealand, this is INFINITY RITUAL, a band whose motto is "Doom, Groove, Volume." Dealing mean stoner riffs is the name of the game for their extended play debut -- four gritty, motoriffic tracks with an infectious charge full-steam ahead and take no prisoners along the way kind of vibe.
Today, we're revisiting the record, simply titled 'EP' (2022), with a fresh look at the third track, "Underneath." The band takes us to the damp, dark halls of prison for the music video, performing a song that's at least as dank as the concrete and steel bars that surround us.
"I see a light at the end of the tunnel. It's my father. He's smiling at me. I don't really understand....is this the end?" singer and guitarist Adam Colless wonders aloud. The band answers with a fury of complex rhythms and chunky slabs of riffage that had me thinking of Coal Chamber and Mudvayne at junctures. The song is one hell of a headbanger, releasing pent up angst and aggression within a framework of despair and metaphysical mystery.
Give ear...
WATCH & LISTEN: Infinity Ritual - "Underneath"
SOME BUZZ
Fans of heavy music have a new band to keep an eye on: Taranaki's Infinity Ritual. It's hard to pin down their sound exactly, but the band says they'd describe it as a groove metal wall of noise, with solid doses of rock, doom and stoner rock. And they already have their own beer.
Infinity Ritual released their debut self-titled EP in July, and – well-deserved, but much to their surprise – it reached No. 17 in the Top 40 Albums Chart and No. 5 in the NZ Albums Chart.
Drummer Mark Thomas told The Taranaki Daily News, “It was quite amazing to see us at number 5 on the New Zealand chart, but to be number 17 on the general top 40 was something I didn't expect.”
Mark Thomas may be familiar to music fans via his passion for vinyl He currently owns Vinyl Countdown in New Plymouth, and used to own Real Groovy Wellington. He has a long history with record stores, and calls record collecting "a really healthy addiction."
EP by Infinity Ritual
In other very cool news, Three Sisters Brewery has just released a beer named after the band, the Infinity Ritual Magic 8 West Coast IPA. They say, "To celebrate this collaboration with doom metal band Infinity Ritual we wanted to brew a beer that tasted like drinking a bitter pine tree. Mission accomplished, fuel for the mosh pit..."
Infinity Ritual has just completed a tour of the North Island, impressing people at each show. Muzic.net.nz's Kev Rowland caught their Auckland show at Ding Dong Lounge (17 December 2022) , saying, "This is a band I definitely want to see again, and anyone into this style of metal needs to seek them out."

I know it's probably the easiest route and it's all very stressful, a 500kg unexploded WWII bomb is not something I'd want anywhere near me, but did they have to make the evacuation zone a wobbly cock?
Let's hope it doesn't blow.

Who's going to Electricarna in New Plymouth on April 22? I've been loaned a 𝒻𝒶𝓃𝒸𝓎 electric vehicle that I've never driven before. 😏
Gonna be heaps of fast & cool EVs there, but does anyone have an EV conversion they want to bring? Now THAT would be a show stealer!
