Thoughts on JJBA Ships (1/?): GioMis
Hi guys! Since Tumblr facilitates more long-form posts, I decided to make a series covering my thoughts on my favourite JJBA ships. This will include how I like to characterise the ship, headcanons, etc. And since GioMis was the ship that made me watch JJBA in the first place, I see no better place to begin.
TW: Child abuse, neglect (canon)
GioMis
1) Analysis
To me, this ship is about the love that blossoms between two people who are very different in many ways, but are drawn together by their strong similarities. It is an opposites attract ship, but ultimately, Giorno and Mista work so well together (platonically and romantically) because they share certain similar values.
This is basically covered in canon and is somewhat self-evident, so I won't go into it too much. Throughout Part 5, Giorno and Mista are generally both very supportive of each other, as they support each other through their weakest moments. The White Album fight is the prime example of this, as Mista is there for Giorno when he loses hope and vice versa. Mista's refusal to leave Giorno behind echoes how Giorno refused to leave Fugo behind earlier, and is very touching, reflecting how they both deeply value the lives of their comrades. Their resolves are the same, and in the White Album fight, both of them remind each other of their own resolve, echoing each other in a beautiful way.
While Giorno's ideals are more similar to Bucciarati's, and Bucciarati can be considered the 'main Jobro' of Part 5, Mista feels more like Giorno's closest friend than Bucciarati does. They are very frequently paired together and continuously protect and inspire each other, and they're even together in the ending. It's clear that Giorno and Mista were meant to be a pair (platonically at least).
2) Why I Like It
I'm generally just a huge sucker for opposites attract ships in the vein of "Reserved person x Upbeat person" so...honestly, it was inevitable, and that (plus Giorno being my favourite character) is definitely the main reason why I like this. Pretty much all of my otps follow this pattern. But I think the reason why this is my JoJo otp is that I just really like how they are paired together. They develop a strong mutual trust and respect, quickly come to rely on each other, and have each others' backs, despite being very different people. I love how they are always looking to each other despite only having known each other for a week. It just feels like a match made in heaven; two people who gravitated to each other so naturally and easily that being together just feels right. This is amplified by the ending.
3) My Characterisation / Headcanons
As a fic writer, how I characterise them kind of depends on the fic I'm writing (outside of GioMis, I have written both Dark! Manipulative! Giorno and Team as Family! Giorno). However, separate from that, I do have certain headcanons that inform the way I see the ship. So, below are my favourite ways of characterising this ship.
a. Giorno's feelings for Mista
I like to hc Giorno as falling for Mista fairly early on. He starts to crush on Mista either after the White Album arc or in his early days as Don.
The reason why I hc this is that, well...post-White Album, Giorno seems to really like touching Mista. The infamous gun pose aside, someone pointed out to me that Giorno tends to unnecessarily cradle Mista a lot. As they mentioned, the most egregious instance happened during the Diavolo fight. Trish almost died, but Giorno catches a falling Mista and just stares at him (thinking about Bucciarati)...he only checks on Trish when Mista mentions that he's glad she's safe. He doesn't even heal Mista when Mista asked, and he takes quite a while to lay Mista down, so that means he just wanted to hold him, lmfao. And perhaps he was reflecting on how Mista was thankfully still alive while Bucciarati had died...so, he was holding Mista in his arms, grateful that Mista is still breathing.
This is, of course, contrasted by how Giorno starts nervously sweating when Mista touches his shoulder when they betray the boss. I like to think that Giorno got a bit flustered by Mista's closeness, his stomach doing little flips etc, which was why he reacted that way. After all, it's a pretty random reaction otherwise (he also nervously sweats in response to Abbacchio sometimes, but Abbacchio is shouting in his face) and it seems a bit much for mere surprise. So, that's why I choose to put on shipping goggles and interpret it this way, haha!
(There's also the cover art of the last volume, where Giorno is reaching for Mista's hand...sadly, that detail was covered by the logo in the cover itself, but the art shows their hands touching).
Anyway, I hc that Giorno falls for Mista because...other than them sharing the same resolve, he's also uncomplicated, straightforward, funny, genuinely friendly and supportive. To be clear, Mista isn't unconditionally or always supportive of Giorno; he questions Giorno a couple of times during the plane arc, and not very nicely, either. He also disbelieves Giorno during the Diavolo fight. However, Mista is also Giorno's first ally besides Bucciarati, and he is the most open to Giorno's ideas among the team. When Giorno needs help with something, it's Mista he turns to (seen in the plane arc). So, it seems that among Team Bucciarati, Giorno feels most familiar with and supported by Mista (and Bucciarati, but he seems more familiar with Mista).
With the 'supportive' part of my list addressed, I'll turn to the other reasons. I think that for Giorno, who grew up having to learn how to read people in order to navigate perilous situations, someone as straightforward and uncomplicated as Mista must be pretty nice to be around. With Mista, he doesn't have to think too hard about intentions or guess at something he's hiding. Mista is just Mista. There's an honesty and frankness to him that, for Giorno, must make him easier to be around. It would also show a certain strength of character, because Mista is an eccentric person who is unashamed of his own eccentricity and has embraced it; Giorno probably tries to hide the 'weird' parts of himself, so he admires, respects and is attracted to Mista for this.
As for the 'friendly' part of the equation...well, I think that pre-canon, Giorno never really had friends. If he did, those relationships were probably mostly transactional. After all, the gangster bribed Giorno's bullies into getting along with him, which is hardly a model for healthy friendships. It's stated that Giorno felt like he was the scum of the earth, which changed after he met the gangster...but this most likely didn't extend to whether he felt people as a whole would actually like him for who he is. Giorno is implied to be rather awkward when he lacks a script friendship-wise (when Trish and Narancia are having a heart-to-heart during the Green Day arc, Giorno is just...standing there...frozen in place, and this could also explain his nervous reaction when Mista unexpectedly comes to him and touches his shoulder). I think that's because he's never really had genuine friends.
Enter Mista. Mista is a pretty friendly person; his excited and personable reaction to Giorno's jellyfish trick reflects this, and he gets along with Giorno pretty well afterwards. Mista seems really fascinated by Giorno's abilities and, as seen in Sleeping Slaves, likes to ruminate on really random thought experiments. I like to think that Giorno has a strong interest in biology, which is why he's able to use his stand so effectively. He clearly really likes animals, even those seen as weird or distasteful by others. However, I doubt he expressed this much to the people around him. I think Giorno doesn't feel anyone would be interested in that, or in him at a deeper level, as a person outside of his charming front and dream.
However, I think that post-canon, things would be different, because Mista seems like the type of person who would actually be interested in long rambling conversations about biology and animals. After all, he canonically began such a conversation. I think Mista would like and engage with the enthusiastic biology nerd side of Giorno when it inevitably slips out, which would surprise Giorno. He would begin to drop his guard and let a bit more of his inner self come out, and as Mista continued to encourage and support him, he would fall even harder for him. Mista would be Giorno's first actual friend. He would care about him in a way that Giorno hasn't known outside of the gangster, and Mista would eventually become someone warm, predictable, safe and comfortable for Giorno—someone he can trust in every sense of the word. However, I do think Giorno might be a bit overwhelmed by and freaked out by his feelings, and uncomfortable with how comfortable he is with Mista.
(Even besides that, it would take them some time to get there, though, as Mista would also take time to fully trust Giorno's judgment. He is very supportive of him in canon, but not always, even when Giorno's action is justified; I think these instances would be reduced as time goes on and they know each other better).
I think Giorno would also fall for Mista because Mista is just solid, dependable, and a sunny, quirky person. I don't have any deep reasons for this, but Giorno does remark once that Mista is an interesting person, and I think he'd find Mista refreshing and intriguing. Mista is his loyal, dependable right-hand-man, his warm and safe friend, and someone who likes and celebrates who he is, both as the powerful Don and as an awkward and emotionally repressed but kind and gentle person. Giorno would feel loved and appreciated by Mista, whom he also thinks is an incredible person whom he admires and respects for his resolve and willingness to be himself no matter what, and that's why I think he'd fall very, very hard for him.
Of course, though, he'd realise this and then despair because he'd think his feelings were unrequited. To me, Giorno doesn't seem like he'd confess unless he was certain that he'd be accepted. So, he'd probably pine silently for a couple of years.
b. Mista's feelings for Giorno
I like to hc Mista as falling for Giorno as the years go by. This is mostly because Giorno is 15 when they meet and it makes me a bit uncomfortable for Mista to be interested so early on, but nevertheless, I feel that Giorno seems to have a crush in canon (shipping glasses on, though, well, he did stick his hand in Mista's pants) whereas Mista's actions are friendly.
Even though he wasn't romantically interested at first, I think Mista has always really liked and appreciated Giorno. To me, Mista would initially like Giorno (platonically or otherwise) because he's determined, resolved, ambitious...he shines bright like the sun, and Mista is in awe at its light. Following Giorno, being with Giorno, feels right to him. To Mista, Giorno is just super cool. That's why he followed him, and that's why he has some level of interest in him.
However, I like to think that Mista only truly began to fall for Giorno when he got to know him as a person. As the years go by, he spends more time with Giorno and sees beyond the composed, intelligent leader (a side he also adores) to realise that Giorno is a kind, gentle, sometimes playful, awkward but well-meaning person. There's a softness to him hidden beneath the cool exterior, and it's this side and the new understanding he has because of it that makes Mista begin to have feelings for Giorno. He wants to see more of this hidden side, to bring it out, because it's extremely endearing. Giorno's confidence, dreams and resolve dazzle Mista; Giorno's kind, gentle, playful and sweet interior charms him and draws him in. He loves both sides of Giorno; he loves all of Giorno, and will tell him exactly why if Giorno ever expresses confusion as to why Mista likes him.
In addition, Giorno is very accepting of Mista. Many people find Mista weird or question his outlook on life, but Giorno just accepts it as Mista being Mista. Mista is Mista, and he doesn't want to change that. He is careful about and respects Mista's 4 phobia, he doesn't understand but comes to accept how Mista operates based on gut feelings and whims. Giorno probably finds this somewhat annoying and frustrating at times, but he also seems a bit fond of it and is refreshed by it, and he relies on Mista's confidence and draws strength from it as well. As Mista is probably used to his way of life and outlook being questioned, Giorno's accommodation of him would be welcome and touching.
Mista probably is also the type to laugh things off and not take things too seriously, but sometimes he probably should actually take things seriously, which is when Giorno comes in. Giorno, because he knows Mista very well, would try and encourage Mista to deal with whatever he has to deal with, which Mista would find very touching.
I think Mista would take a while to realise he loves Giorno. He probably dates a couple of women, but he just never clicks with them in the way he does with Giorno. Mista eventually begins to feel as though settling down with a woman feels like a betrayal of Giorno for some reason; he reasons that this is because he's so deep in mafia life that it's hard to have a relationship outside of it, but eventually he figures out that he's actually in love with Giorno. His bi awakening probably happens when someone (Fugo, probably) tells him that he talks about Giorno as if he has a thing for him, at which point Mista realises he likes men and that he wants Giorno, specifically. After this, never one to miss his shot, Mista probably asks Giorno out, which is how they get together.
c. Their relationship
So, I think they would have some early bumps in the road because they might have communication problems (this isn't anywhere I have gone in my writing, nor do I think I will anytime soon, but I have thought about this at length). Namely, Giorno probably has some attachment issues and is dealing with confusing feelings that he isn't telling Mista about, and Mista doesn't really say what Giorno needs to hear concerning the very little that Giorno does tell him about since their love and his feelings are so simple to him (whereas to Giorno it is complicated, overwhelming and anxiety-inducing), so they have some problems.
Given his childhood, I think Giorno is very possibly an insecurely attached person. How exactly this would manifest / what that attachment style would be, I don't know, because I haven't really written this into any of my fics and don't feel entirely comfortable speculating / analysing in specific...but I do think he might be pretty overwhelmed and feel like he needs to run away from Mista, despite wanting to be close with him, yet be initially unwilling to actually communicate his feelings. I could see him feeling this way about their friendship generally, even though Mista feels like home to him and he generally feels safe and warm around him; this would explode when they get together and he now has to deal with added closeness (emotional and physical) as well as boyfriend expectations. I also think he might be confused as to why Mista is interested, because he didn't see it coming and Mista suddenly coming out as bi blindsided him. A part of him might think it's too good to be true, and it's just a whim.
Eventually, I think Giorno would build up anxiety, fear and resentment and might begin actually avoiding Mista, leading to them arguing about it one day and hashing it all out. They'd work through it, though, and learn how to communicate better (and Giorno would probably eventually be inspired to read up about his issues and, in his typical determined way, try very very hard to find strategies to work with them). Ultimately, at the core of this relationship is the immense trust and respect they have for one another, and I think the bedrock is strong enough such that they can eventually figure things out, as both of them care about each other deeply and would be willing to try.
Another interesting aspect is whether Mista would come before or after Giorno's dream. I have written a fic about the latter, but I also planned a fic where the former happened and Giorno basically almost caused the downfall of Passione because he made a failed risky gamble to save Mista's life when an enemy threatened to kill him (Mista lived. Many members of Passione died). Currently, I think I'm leaning towards Giorno's dream always coming first. It would be a point of contention at first, but I think they would come to accept it, even though they aren't entirely comfortable with it. After all, Giorno's dedication to his dream is part of why Mista admires him, and Giorno became the Don knowing that Mista might have to die for his dream if it came to it. The day will come when this will be a non factor, and they are both waiting for that day.
Otherwise, I think Giorno and Mista would be a pretty harmonious couple. Giorno seems like he'd be a bit of an overthinker who's prone to stress, and Mista's easygoing nature and confidence in Giorno's abilities would soothe him. On the other hand, Giorno's drive and ambition would spur Mista forward, inspiring him and bringing him great joy. They would get annoyed and frustrated with each other on occasion, but I don't think they are the type of couple who would have nasty, terrible fights. Mista would snap at Giorno and Giorno would become cold, but it wouldn't escalate terribly.
Ultimately, they would both just love each other very, very much. Mista would probably cheerfully tell Giorno this very often, but Giorno might take longer, not because he doesn't but because the words would catch in his throat and it'd be hard to say, as words alone fail to express how deeply and intensely he feels for Mista. They'd probably be in a secret relationship because, well, mafia, but Fugo and Trish would know they're dating. I won't call it a 'happily ever after' for them, as relationships take more effort than the term suggests, but I think they'd be happy together.
4) Conclusion
I just really like this ship, okay?? ^^ All GioMis is good GioMis, of course—I like this ship platonically, romantically, functional, dysfunctional, heck I adore it unrequited (on Giorno's side)—but my favourite GioMis is post-canon timeskip GioMis. That just feels like the natural progression of their relationship, of this duo that grew closer and closer until life became unimaginable without one another.
I don't know how well this post will do lmao but I may do another one of these (it will probably be BruAbba as I have a lot of thoughts on that ship...I made some tweets that got surprisingly popular considering my tiny account). I may also make a list of allllll the GioMis moments in canon (albeit through my shipping goggles) if anyone is interested. If you read all of my rambling, thank you LOL and I hope you enjoyed my GioMis brainrot.

hi
english is not my native language, sorry for mistakes in text, i tried my best <3
so,
in the last week I've been attacked in dm by people I don't know. I saw their profiles for the first time in my life. they're told me to kms, insulted and sent pics of dead bodies in blood, dead heads of animals and etc because of my art with giomis. I blocked these accounts and wrote to tumblr support. but it was still weird af.
with this post, I wanna to ask people not search for my account or content that they dont like and then bully someone. I don't see a problem with giomis as long as it's platonic and as long as it's a relationship between guys in the same age group.
I don't draw anything weird or nsfw with them, I just love their dynamic.
and I dont wanna people telling me to k*ll myself.
Once again: its creepy. I dont want to close my dm because nice and cute guys also contact me.
ty for reading, love yall!

AIGHT SO- These r my Headcanons for the Buccigang and their gender identities/sexualities. In no way do I believe everyone should agree with these or anything. These r just my opinions and everyone has their own Headcanons!
Bruno: MLM/Gay, He/Him
Abbacchio: Gay, Demiandrogyne, He/Him
Mista: Bisexual, He/Him
Narancia: Pansexual, Nonbinary, Demiboy, He/They
Fugo: MLM/Polyromantic (Males & Masc Nonbinary), Demisexual, He/Him
Giorno: MLM/Gay, Transgender (ftm), Androgyny, Neopronouns, He/Him/Luck/Lucky's
Trish: Lesbian/Sapphic, She/Her
REASONING;
Bruno: I mean, I dunno, man just gives me gay man vibes. But gay as in he's attracted to any male identifying individuals or male-aligned individuals (so y'know like a non-binary person that partially identifies as a male) I just don't see him having a relationship with a woman unless it's platonic/a friendship. He's definitely the type of gay to make women fall head over heels for him (obviously not on purpose) then the women become severely disappointed when they find out he's gay- He's the gay that has to deal with those awkward interactions-
-
Abba: Kinda the same for Abba. He just doesn't rub me as the type to like women or other genders- He's a simple man. A simple man that loves men- But he's also demi-androgynous. Since I feel like you could confuse him for a woman for obvious reasons- And in general I feel like he could partially relate/feel connected to women, however, he doesn't actually identity as a woman.
-
Mista: I mean- I don't think I gotta explain this one. This vibes r all there- Despite his croptop he thinks they make him look hot not feminine so he doesn't relate or feel connected to identifying as any other gender-
-
Nara: IT'S THE VIBES BRO- First off, man's color pallet is literally the non-binary flag- Second- Bc of the fact his gender is a bit all over the place he definitely feels attracted to ppl regardless of their gender, therefore, man's Pan. I'd also say he's a Demiboy, he doesn't always feel fully connected to being a guy nor does he always relate to it. Hence why he might appear feminine at times. But I don't think he'd identify as a female. Tbh idk why he gives me the vibes that he'd get mad if ppl assume he's a girl. He doesn't mind wearing feminine clothes but just like Abba, I feel he wouldn't like identifying as one. He'd rather identify without a gender or his assigned gender.
-
Fugo: MLM so y'know like Bruno a male that is attracted to other males or male-aligned individuals. For that same reason I think he'd also identify as Polyromantic meaning he's specifically romantically attracted to males or non-binary (specifically masc non-binary) ppl but not women or ppl who even partially identify as women. I also believe he'd be demisexual in terms and will only have a sexual relationship with his partner if he's been in a deep and serious relationship with them for years otherwise don't expect any sort of sexual relation from this dude-
-
Gio: Again, same as Fugo and Bruno mmmm m e n/m a l e a l i g n e d p p l. At this point I'm completely on board with the trans (FTM) hc of his- I mean- Araki practically wrote it himself- BUT he also identifies as Androgynous given the way he dresses and I'd say even acts at times- However, I don't think he'd identify as a female bc of that. He just like... Understands and relates to women for obvious reasons- and the Neopronouns r kinda funny haha thing for me- Tbh idk to take them serious myself or not 💀 But I liked the idea anyways bc of how Mista called him his "Lucky Boy" and I just liked the idea of at that moment Giorno thinking 'That's... A... Nice word to use a pronoun-' (IN NO WAY DO I MEAN THIS IS A GIOMIS WAY- He just genuinely liked the word as a pronoun 💀 (that's my HC anyways-))
-
Trish: MmmMM w o m e n- She's definitely and completely into girls/female-alinged individuals. After the shit she went through? Constantly being surrounded by men both protecting her but also severely endangering her? Yeah, she's had enough of dudes- /hj. Trish is definitely like... A girly girl when it comes to everything outside of fighting- I just feel like she'd definitely see/describe all males as "too rough and boyish" idk what that'd even mean but essentially she just would always find some sort of discomfort in guys so- A lesbian she is- And I'd definitely say she's someone that's happy and confident with her gender. She loves her body and her gender and wouldn't want to change it for any reason or identify as anything other than herself, which is a AFAB :)

1.) This is an account by a gay man for other gay men. Nothing fetishy and please no romantic pairings with women. Sorry ladies, but there are already so many ask blogs out there for you!
2.) I do take ship requests! As in you give a ship and I will write for them. Depending on what is requested and what is wanted, of course. HOWEVER I won’t do any incestuous ships or adult/minor pairings, as that should be obvious. GioMis is an grey area, so I will write for them however I won't do NSFW content of the pair.
3.) I might do NSWF content but I’m not great at it. So don’t get your hopes up haha!
4.) Do not harass me or a requester over a ship. You will immediately get banned.
5.) I will most likely write pairings or x readers where characters are trans or aromantic through personal writing. If you are uncomfortable with that, then you don’t belong on my blog.
6.) If you don’t know if something has been asked before, please do a search! I will tag everything appropriately!
7.) Transmeds, homo/trans/aphobes, rasicts, proshippers, and anyone alined with any of these things don't interact!

Chapter 2 We Keep on Running (Ice) Summary:
The chaos of the fight against White Album has just wound down, giving Giorno time to process everything that has just happened. But with such a tight timeframe to get to the Boss, he can’t really justify relaxing enough to spend time understanding his feelings. Things keep on coming, and they don’t have time to stop running long enough to rest at the moment.
Excerpt:
It’d been a long morning for the both of them. While Mista hadn’t been the one who’d driven through the early hours of the night, he’d been alert on watch, and he’d talked to Giorno to keep him from nodding off behind the wheel. Aside from that, Giorno knew how tiring it was to heal. His own arm was still healing, his sleeve torn where his flesh had been mangled. At least Mista wasn’t trying to wander around, the moment’s rest would give his wounds some time to finish closing up.
He glanced up to watch as the sunlight started to peek over the top of a building, illuminating Mista’s face in gentle golden light. His brow was sweaty, glittering in the sun. The blood on his skin shone gruesomely crimson in splattered patches that had yet to dry.
The sight unsettled him, making something in his stomach churn. The realization hit him, of just how concerned about Mista he was, and the strength of the feeling caught him off guard. Rationally, he knew Mista would be fine, as he’d just healed him personally. But he couldn’t seem to shake the feeling with logic alone.
With all that had happened in the last two days, it wouldn’t be helpful for him to get overly attached. It would be altogether too easy for Mista to die during their confrontation with the boss, however that went down, given Mista’s propensity for being a bullet sponge.
Despite knowing all of that, he couldn’t help but hope that Mista would survive. They’d been an effective team so far, and it’d been a pleasant surprise that Mista had saved him after his miscalculation in the canal. That display of dedication and loyalty, as undeserving of it as Giorno was, had saved his life.

I'm not a big fan of Gio x mista but I'm curious so, can I have headcannons, please? :3
Hi there, darling! Let’s start to say that I see Giomis more as a broship than a really romantic ship. More a fluffy ship than a “nsfw” one! So I preferred to go with platonic/fluffy hcs, hope they’re fine!
Giomis general headcanons
Mista had been the first one who really accepted Giorno in the group -aside Bruno-, admiring the smartness and creativity he had shown to avoid Abbacchio’s prank. That boy was interesting! He would have been a good addition to the group, he thought.
As the mission went on, Mista found himself appreciating Giorno more and more. He was really a smart boy, almost as Fugo, but without his anger bursts, and had charisma. He had an overwhelming charisma, he knew how to ignite hope and determination in everyone’s heart. And Mista wanted to bask in that light and warmth.
When the final battle was finished, he and Giorno just had each other. Giorno was busy as hell as new Don and he desperately needed a right arm. Mista had been his first choice. He needed someone he could trust with his life, someone he knew well, someone who had endured the same pain as him: Trish was out of discussion, she wanted nothing more than having nothing to do with mafia again; Mista had always been with him. They had fought together, they had an affinity so deep that they could make their stands work in tandem. Mista was his first and right choice.
Spending together so much time -both in mission and in his office-, since Mista was his most trusted and loyal guard and executor, lead them to know better each other. Mista saw Giorno at his lowest, when the young Don was so stressed to break down, and Giorno had a friendly shoulder always ready to support him. Mista learnt how to calm him down, how to interpret every little expression on his Don’s face. Same for Giorno: a look was enough for him to understand what Mista wanted to say him, to know what he was going to do. After a while together, they didn’t need words anymore to speak to each other.
When Giorno became Don, they shared a house. It was simpler, like this: Giorno always had near his right arm and Mista could always have an eye on his Don. Still, as time passed, they found themselves falling in a quiet and relaxing routine. A coffee in the morning, if Giorno didn’t have meetings then they always went to their comrades and friends’ graves, a tea in the afternoon… even if Giorno told him to take a free day, Mista stayed by his side. Because it was where he wanted to stay.

mista for the ask game?
Hell yes my beloved guy
favorite thing about them: I love memeing about how funny it is that the personification of his soul is just six little guys, but also there's a lot of layers with his stand that I adore so so much. Like, the fact that he actually has to take care of the Pistols, combined with his sorta protective behavior regarding the rest of the gang (esp Narancia), is really sweet and kinda heartbreaking in hindsight. Also, I definitely read a lot of his superstitions as OCD-related (he's just like me woah), and the Pistols keep him on a comforting routine, so there's that angle, too. Also the thing from PHF that mentions stands in multiple parts/colonies being representative of something deeply sad or broken in the user... yeah :)
least favorite thing about them: I'm always torn about the opening scene from PHF because I love both Mista and Fugo dearly, and I can definitely see where they're both coming from (in fact, I'd say I sympathize with Mista a little more), but like. At the same time. Buddy. That's your friend. Chill out.
favorite line: Every single line he says in the dub plays in my brain on loop 24/7
brOTP: Oh I have SO many. I adore platonic Fugo + Mista and Torture Dance Trio obviously, but I also think (in an everyone lives AU where they don't hate each other post-VA lol) his friendship with Giorno is super funny. Just Local Disaster Man looks at Scarily Competent Maybe Evil Kid and is like "we are best friends now :) let's go to mcdonald's I'll get you a happy meal :)" He definitely tries to give Giorno life advice, and it's mostly terrible, but Giorno will sometimes take it seriously because there's a part of him that thinks of Mista as his cool big brother. Also, Mista and Trish are canon bffs, they hang out at the mall and paint their nails together
OTP: Good evening Naramis micronation <333 While they're sort of high-strung in their own ways, I like the concept of them being able to just be chill with each other, and just. Y'know. Do stupid things together, and find contentment in a way that their lives don't otherwise allow them to. They strike me as two people who just naturally work well together. Also, I love the dynamic of "chaotic dumbasses who probably spend their dates setting things on fire in a Target parking lot, but are somehow role models for a super well-adjusted and healthy couple"
nOTP: oh no fingers crossed I don't wanna start discourse I don't like Giomis tbh. Their platonic dynamic is fun (and their like. weird beef in PHF is super interesting), but I just cannot see them working romantically at all. Mista, especially, I can't picture ever developing feelings for Giorno, even in an AU where everyone turns out fine. Idk, it seems boring at best and toxic at worst.
random headcanon: Oh I have so many and I think I've already shared a bunch, but I feel like talking about the "Hol Horse is Mista's dad" thing. I know it's like a popular joke theory because Guns, but I think it's also legitimately interesting if you draw parallels between Hol Horse/Dio and Mista/Giorno. Like, the PHF bonus chapter, to me, is really reminiscent of the scene from SDC where Hol Horse tries to shoot Dio, but ultimately backs down and is sort of manipulated into keeping his loyalty. Maybe someday I'll write an elaborate post or a fic about this or something.
unpopular opinion: He's not just stupid comic relief!! He's not just Generic Cardboard Cutout Horny Man to throw into spicy fanfics!! He's an interesting character and I love him dearly!!
song i associate with them: Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head by BJ Thomas. He just wanted to have a simple and pleasant life, smh canon.
favorite picture of them: I love the color palette in this scene so much it's so fucking sick

Title: Rest
Rating: Teen and Up
Fandom: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Vento Aureo
Pairing(s): GioMis, Background BruAbba; (Platonic) Bruno & Giorno, Abbacchio & Giorno, Bruno & Mista, Bruno & Abbacchio
Summary: “‘m sorry,” Giorno whispers after a moment, startling the two that had thought him asleep.
“Don’t be,” Bucciarati says gently, already heartbroken by the mere prospect of Giorno crying in the bathroom over something he can’t help.
Mista nods, “Yeah, what Bucci said. You didn’t mean to. ‘sides, I’ve done worse. I [got] Abba one time.”
Notes: I have no excuse for this other than that I was sick the other day. TW: past alcoholism (Leone), past child abuse (Giorno), and emeto/vomiting.
-
There’s no time between Giorno waking up and his stomach rolling violently. He tries to clamp a hand over his mouth and untangle himself from the blankets, but he’s too late. The blankets won’t budge, wrapped as they are around his legs from a night of restless sleep. His stomach heaves again, and all he can do is slap his other hand over his mouth and try to hold back the worst of it.
He fails spectacularly. The majority of it lands in his lap, but some of it ends up across the foot of the bed, too. The burning in his nose and mouth is nothing compared to the panic that begins to build the longer he stares at the mess. He needs to clean it up. Needs to hide the evidence of his mess before--
Giorno shakes his head, tries to clear his thoughts. He’s not being rational. He knows that, but acknowledging that and actually forcing his brain to clear are two entirely different things. He tries, again, to get out of bed, but his hands are shaking in the blankets. His entire torso feels weak, and his legs are telling him that he won’t make it to the bathroom on his own.
An attempt is made, despite himself. Giorno tries to roll the blanket up, but the sheets are clearly just as soiled. He tries to peel them off the bed by moving around the other side to unhook them from the edge of the mattress, but his knees buckle. He barely manages to catch himself, and he’s forced to sit back down on the bed. On the half that he hasn’t completely ruined.
As he sits there and tries to catch his breath, the anxiety continues to build. Everything is a mess. He’s running out of time, and he’ll be found soon enough. So much of his own clothes and skin are covered in sick, and he feels pathetic. (Helpless, useless, tiny-- he’s coming, he’s coming--)
“Giorno?”
The voice startles Giorno into letting out a whimper. He grasps the blankets again, trying to renew his earlier determination, but the nausea is beginning to build back up, rising higher and higher in his throat. He tries once more to cover his mouth, and that’s apparently enough to clue Mista in.
“Oh shit, hold on,” Mista practically dives for the en suite bathroom and comes back out with the trash bin just in time to shove it under Giorno’s nose. He takes a moment to catch his breath before he realizes that Giorno’s hair is loose. He barely bats an eye at the wetness he feels when he collects the blonde curls up into one hand. The Pistols scatter from him, but Giorno doesn’t seem to notice.
“You’re okay, just let it out,” Mista murmurs his gentle assurances. He uses his free hand to rub at Giorno’s back until the worst of it seems to pass and Giorno is gasping for air. Mista sets the bin down beside the bed, off to the side enough that it won’t be knocked away, but close enough that it can be grabbed in an emergency.
Number 5 returns with a hair tie grasped in his hands. He passes it to Mista, who takes it gratefully and ties Giorno’s hair in a loose bun. There’s a knock at the door that alerts him to Bucciarati and Abbacchio’s presence.
“Wait, don’t--” Mista doesn’t have to finish his words before Bucciarati is taking in the scene and putting the pieces together. He turns on his heels, already moving to intercept the others. Giorno goes stiff, but no one else appears around the corner.
Abbacchio closes the door after he steps into the room. “Sick, huh?”
Giorno flinches, and Mista nods, “The Pistols woke me up for a snack. I was gone for like five minutes.”
“Yeah, alright,” Abbacchio rubs at one of his eyes absently, clearly still processing the world around him. His hair is a mess, despite the loose braid, and his eyes are dark around the edges. Both signs that he’s only been awake for a short few minutes. “Let’s get him cleaned up. Can you get him to the bathroom?”
“Yeah, I-” Mista doesn’t know how to explain that he’s hesitant to touch Giorno right now. Everything seems to make him more tense, and getting bunged up like that while he’s already sick can’t be doing him any good. Then again, sitting in his own puke can’t be any better. “I got him.”
“Good, I’ll get the bed.”
“No,” Giorno startles both of them with a voice that sounds pained and fearful, “I can- I’ll get it, let me-”
“No offense, Giogio, but I don’t think you’re in any condition to do that right now,” Mista says with a frown.
“But-”
“Let Mista take care of you, kid. You look like shit.”
Giorno curls tighter on himself, but he nods after a moment. Mista scoops him up, uncaring about the mess that gets on him. That’s what the shower’s for, and the only thing that matters right now is taking care of Giorno.
Mista can hear Abbacchio already moving, stripping the bed, while Bucciarati slips back into the room. The rest of the Pistols float around Bucciarati’s head, yammering away. They don’t seem to be bothering the man, but Mista recalls them anyway.
“Fugo suggested these for any potential fever or pain he’s feeling,” Bucciarati explains as he holds up a bottle of painkillers, “Though taking them on an empty stomach might not be in Giorno’s best interest. Trish is putting something light together. Narancia should be up in a minute with a change of sheets and a new duvet. He’s going to knock, but he’s just leaving them outside the door. Do you need help?”
Abbacchio shakes his head, “Nah, I got this. Been covered in a lot worse.” Never mind the number of times he’s woken up in his own vomit. It’s far more than he can count, and he’s suddenly grateful for the reminder that it hasn’t happened in a very, very long time. The sour smell does nothing good for his stomach, but it’s manageable.
The knock at the door comes before Bucciarati can respond. He cracks it open to find Narancia still standing there. A tinge of irritation spreads through him before Narancia speaks,
“Is he okay?”
Bucciarati’s expression softens, “He’ll be fine with a bit of rest.”
Narancia nods and passes Bucciarati the new bedding. On top of it is a plastic bag that Bucciarati raises an eyebrow at. “I thought- y’know, to put the old stuff in.”
“Ah,” Bucciarati gives a small smile, “Thank you, Narancia. That was very thoughtful. Would you mind checking on Trish?”
“You got it, B!” Narancia spins on his heels and heads off toward the stairs.
Bucciarati lets out a sigh and turns back to his partner. Between the two, they manage to get the soiled blankets into the garbage bag without too much hassle. The bedding can be washed later, but the priority is getting Giorno back in bed.
The water faucet in the bathroom turns off, cluing Abbacchio and Bucciarati into the fact that they’re out of time, so they quickly place the new sheets and Abbacchio slides out of the room with the excuse that he’s going to go start the laundry. Really, he doesn’t want to be there, making the situation worse, and Bucciarati isn’t about to fight him on it in this particular circumstance. Giorno’s already upset. One less set of eyes on him will ease some of that anxiety, and the two have an odd sort of relationship at times. Abbacchio can be a bit rough around the edges, and Giorno doesn’t always take that well.
“Booch, could you-?” Mista calls from the bathroom, breaking Bucciarati out of his thoughts. He’s moving before Mista can finish the request. He finds the two sitting on the edge of the tub. Giorno mostly leaned into Mista with his eyes closed. They’re red and puffy, and he can imagine what happened in the time he had been busy. He makes his way over to the two.
“Ready to get back in bed?” Bucciarati asks gently. He wants to offer more. To provide some kind of comfort, but he knows that Giorno isn’t always receptive to touch. Mista jerks his head to the side in a way that would be far from subtle if Giorno were more aware. It’s enough to tell Bucciarati what he needs to know, and he finds his fingers in Giorno’s hair, combing through the damp locks gently.
The three stay like that a bit longer before Giorno mumbles a quiet, ‘Bed?’
“Of course,” Bucciarati says without missing a beat. He extracts his fingers and moves to help Mista get Giorno to his feet. It’s a slow trek, but they get there in the end. Giorno crawls into bed shakily, and Mista carefully pulls the towels out from under the covers once Giorno is covered by the duvet.
“‘m sorry,” Giorno whispers after a moment, startling the two that had thought him asleep.
“Don’t be,” Bucciarati says gently, already heartbroken by the mere prospect of Giorno crying in the bathroom over something he can’t help.
Mista nods, “Yeah, what Bucci said. You didn’t mean to. ‘sides, I’ve done worse. I puked on Abba one time.”
Giorno’s eyes widen slightly at that, and he asks, in a small voice, “Really?”
Bucciarati fails to bite back his laugh at the memory, “He really did.”
Giorno seems to take that in and eventually accepts it as the reassurance that it is. His eyes slide shut again, and he mutters a soft, ‘thank you’. The other two don’t know if it’s for the physical or verbal comfort, but they share a look of relief among each other.
“Bucciarati, Trish is at the door,” Number Seven cuts through their thoughts.
(“Didn’t I recall you?” Mista asks as) Bucciarati goes to answer the door, finding a worried Trish with a thermos in hand. “I wasn’t sure if he would actually be up to eating right now, so I went ahead and put it in this. That way it stays warm for a while, and I got some juice,” she holds up a bottle, “Vitamin C is supposed to be good when you’re sick.”
“Thank you, Trish,” Bucciarati says with warmth in his tone. He can tell she’s rambling. Nervous for their Don, no doubt. Keeping everyone else out is sending alarm bells off in their heads, but there’s no helping it. He respects Giorno’s privacy, and they’ll all just have to take Bucciarati at his word that Giorno will be fine.
“Of course! I can- anything else? That I can do, I mean?”
“No, I don’t think so. I’m going to head back to bed in a bit, myself. You should get some rest, too.”
“Okay, sure,” Trish hesitates a moment, but she turns to leave without saying anything else.
Bruno deposits both thermos and bottle on the night table next to the bed. Mista’s sat on the edge of the mattress, fingers carding through Giorno’s hair. He looks tense. Lips drawn in a frown and shoulders tight. Drawn up too high.
“Mista,” Bucciarati says the name quiet, yet firm. It’s enough to draw the gunslinger’s attention upward. “You did a good job. He’s going to be fine.”
“I know. It’s-” Mista huffs and runs one of his hands through his own hair, “It’s not that.”
Bucciarati stays quiet, waiting. He suspects he already knows what this is about, but he can see the gears turning in Mista’s head. Can see the debate before,
“He thought- he thought we were going to be mad. About the mess.”
“I know,” Bucciarati says after a moment. He ignores the ache in his chest at the thought. At the implication. “Given how pink he is, he likely has a fever, which means he isn’t thinking very clearly. Old memories-”
“I know that!” Mista winces at the way his own voice sounds. It’s too loud, and he doesn’t want to reawaken Giorno. “Sorry.”
Bucciarati waves a dismissive hand. “No need to be. I understand it can be hard.”
“Just sucks.”
There’s a huff of a laugh from Bucciarati then, “Succinct way of putting it.”
Mista shrugs at him, either because he doesn’t understand or because he does and has nothing else to say.
“See if you can’t get him to take two of these,” Bucciarati reaches for the bottle he set down earlier. “If he falls back to sleep immediately, he can take them on an empty stomach. I don’t think much more is coming up at this point. Then you should try to get some sleep.”
“Yeah, alright,” Mista sighs.
“And let me know if you need anything.”
“Will do,” Mista gives a mock salute, and Bucciarati takes his leave, trusting that the younger will call for him if need be.
Once the door closes behind Bucciarati, Mista climbs back into bed. He shucks his own towel along the way and leaves it on the floor. It’s something that can be cleaned up later. Right now, all he cares about is Giorno.
He reaches for the bottle of pills and the juice left behind by Trish and Bucciarati. “Giogio,” he calls gently, hating to wake him up so soon after he had drifted off, but the pink in his cheeks and the anxiety for a man that Giorno hasn’t seen in years are worrying. They need to bring his fever down, so he prods at Giorno until he groans and cracks his eyes open.
“You can go back to sleep once you take these,” Mista explains as he digs out two pills and places them in Giorno’s palm. He’s about to hand him the juice when Giorno pops the pills in his mouth and swallows them dry. “Okay, that’s- that works.”
Giorno’s eyes slide shut again, and he seems halfway to unconsciousness by the time Mista curls up beside him.
Mista wraps one arm around Giorno loosely and nuzzles his nose against Giorno’s skin. It takes him a while before he feels certain that Giorno won’t be sick again, and it’s then, and only then, that he finally allows himself to drift off.

A long thread on Giorno’s and Mista’s relationship (platonic or not)
I like the GioMis duo dynamics, mostly because of Mista’s flexibility and friendliness. I’ve written a bunch of posts when the anime was airing, and I’ll try to summarize some of those points here as well.
Ship or not, the GioMis dynamics is one of the few actual cooperations we see in JoJo. Prosciutto and Pesci are another example, but their dynamics is doomed to fail because Prosciutto wants to have full control, and needs to prove he’s macho 24/7.
By cooperation, I don’t just mean characters trying to defeat the bad guy. When Polnareff hit Dio with the street sign to prevent Jotaro’s death, it was different characters doing what they can to fight the enemy. Cooperation means balanced interaction+complimentary contributions.
During the Ghiaccio fight, we see Mista come up with creative ways to use Golden Experience. That shows he understands the pros and limitations of his companion’s stands, and can use it to compliment his own ideas.
If the temperature is very low, grass is fine. Mista isn’t trapped, and Giorno has to put his faith in Mista that, once Mista crosses the channel, he won’t abandon Giorno. On their own neither Mista or Giorno can survive.
But if they trust each other & combine their skills, they can be something greater than the separate parts. Mista’s stand is meant to kill while Giorno’s gives life. Mista also has to trust once his blood splatters all over Ghiaccio’s vision, Giorno will be there to treat wounds.
Their dynamics works mostly thanks to Mista who’s a very chill guy. When Giorno was a newbie, Mista trusts Giorno’s idea, because seniority should not matter in evaluating how good an idea is (Zucchero’s fight).
During Ghiaccio’s fight, Mista is the one to initiate the cooperation, and because Mista is complimentary to, but not against Giorno’s grand scheme of things, Giorno admires Mista’s resolve.
(Abbacchio was giving good advice, but it was against Giorno’s core ideas, so Giorno just didn’t care to listen). Bullets having some sentience and autonomy also helps. During Cioccolata’s fight, number 5 cooperates with Giorno, since Mista is unconscious.
In some ways, Mista’s stand is inconvenient (imagine running out of bullets?). However, being highly autonomous, it can also fight when the stand user is down. Or ask for help.
Overall I have only good words to say about Mista. I think he’s smarter than fans take him for. He just doesn’t want unnecessary trouble, when life can be simple.
Giorno is trickier, because admiration is different from caring. Would Giorno sacrifice Mista? Possibly, because to Giorno ideals matter more than people. If he will put himself on the line, everyone else is fair game too.
Does he like Mista because Mista is easygoing, and thus easier to bend to his will? Mista is moved by feelings, as opposed to logic (that doesn’t mean he’s dumb; it just means some things are worth putting logic aside).
Someone like Fugo would be more problematic, because they go by logic. Fugo would make a great strategist, but maybe not the most trusted bodyguard, because he won’t take your ideals at face value.
(I have some ideas about exploring Giorno’s darker side that I won't disclose yet)
Going by a rumor if Mista was intended to be a girl Giorno rushing to catch him each time Mista falls makes so much sense shonen-wise.
Unfortunately, girls are seen as more delicate and worth protecting in Shonen, as compared to boys. In Gintama, even though Gintoki loves both Kagura and Shinpachi dearly, he’s kinder and more protective of Kagura.
Which is funny, since Kagura is part of the strongest race in the universe, and Shinpachi is just human. There have been times Shinpachi had to toughen up, while Gintoki would run to hold Kagura when she’s falling, or protect her with his body.
So if Mista were a girl, by Shonen rules, you bet Giorno will run to save the only girl, and have her land safely in his arms.
And there's Araki saying he wanted Giorno to be a girl and the entire damsel in distress trope is flipped then.

Chapters 11 & 12 are now posted!
An excerpt from chapter 11:
“Giorno seemed to understand, and they rode in silence. Mista’s absence hung like a wet blanket over the car. Fugo didn’t know if Giorno had considered that Mista may be gravely injured, or worse, dead, but he wasn’t about to broach the topic now. Even if he had considered it, it wasn’t as though those things had stopped Giorno in the past.”
An excerpt from chapter 12:
“The air was musty, carrying the scent of rotting and rodents. Not that she didn’t like rodents, they were survivors, like her. But the mildew scent assaulted her nose, and the place smelled like decay. The air had a tinge of blood too, pungent and fresh. It was this scent she followed, like a hunting dog set upon a target to where the game bird had fallen.”
