Bonus Special! - Interlude - 11:10PM
In the wake of the slamming door, an uncomfortable silence reigned. As usual, it was Aimee Witch who eventually broke it.
“Well,” she said, scratching her chin with a long magenta nail. “That went down like a lead balloon.”
Cruella Unusual snorted. “You don’t fuckin’ say. Can we go after him, please?” She was already by the door, foot tapping and expression stormy. She gestured impatiently at the exit through which Dee Loveless had so recently stormed out. “He won’t be out of the club yet. We can still catch him.”
“Hm,” said Aimee noncommittally. There was a patch of blood on her dress, dark against the sequins. Dee had been sprawled across her torso for several long minutes and Aimee could still feel the lingering warmth of his presence.
“We are going after him, yeah?” Cruella pressed. She narrowed her eyes at Aimee, a disapproving squint in a haze of smokey eye shadow.
“The fate of the whole world does sort of depend on it,” Vesper chimed in. They, too, had risen to their feet. “If he leaves Hex and Annelisse’s lot find him again–”
“I know.” The words came out more curtly than Aimee intended and she gave her head a little shake. Dee hadn’t been what she’d expected. Now that she thought about it, she wasn’t sure what that expectation had even been. Up until the moment the paper airplane had collided with his head, Dee Loveless had just been a notion. A hypothetical. The faceless, nameless sacrifice Annelisse’s ritual had always called for. Just another ingredient in a dark magic spell.
Then he’d walked into that room and become a person.
A hand appearing in her field of vision stirred Aimee from her thoughts. Frosti was offering her help up. Though the channeller didn’t look as angry as Cruella, her lips were pursed and the tug she gave to pull Aimee to her feet was rather more forceful than necessary.
“We shouldn’t have tried to trick him,” Frosti said, tone for once suiting her stage name.
“It seemed like a good idea at the time,” Aimee replied. It was as close as she was willing to get to admitting that Frosti was right. Spelling Dee to sleep had felt like the best option when they’d been setting up the portal and awaiting his arrival. That way they could hide him here without a struggle, safe behind Hex’s wards, until morning came and the ritual was well and truly ruined. Aimee had assumed it would be easy. An exhausted, injured sacrifice would hardly be able to resist a Sleep spell, especially if he was unfamiliar with magic. But Dee had surprised her. He had been exhausted and injured, but he’d also been inquisitive and perceptive and more than a little bit angry. Aimee had forgotten, in all of her planning, to consider that the sacrifice might be smart.
Smart, but scared. She’d seen that in his eyes when he’d gotten up to leave. Intelligence wasn’t driving his choices right now. That was all fear.
“Cruella’s right,” Aimee admitted reluctantly. She hated when Cruella was right. “We should catch up to him.” She caught Frosti’s eye and added, “And yeah, explain to him properly why he needs to stay here.” Frosti nodded in approval.
“Great idea,” Victoire said. She tossed a long lock of silvery hair over her shoulder. “Especially since Cruella, Ben and Ves have already all gone to find him.” She pointed at the now open doorway and distinct lack of annoyed drag queens standing by it.
Aimee made a noise that was half-laugh, half-huff. “It’s herding bloody cats with you lot!” Still, she couldn’t be too angry at their impatience. Vesper had been right: a lot was riding on this. Aimee knew she shouldn’t have let Dee walk out in the first place. The look on his face when he’d gotten up had stung her into inaction, however. Dee had looked down at her with such hurt and weary anger shining in his eyes that even now, thinking back on it, she felt guilt twist in her chest. He’d looked at her like she was as bad as Annelisse and her lot.
Tumblr media
That had hurt.
“Should we go join them?” Frosti asked, once more pulling Aimee back into the present. The channeller was the newest and youngest member of the coven, and this was her first run in with dark magic. Aimee could practically feel the nerves radiating off of her. She gave her a pat on the shoulder, secretly glad that Frosti’s anger seemed to have faded. It was so unusual to see her cross that it had been a little off-putting.
“Nah, they’ll find him. Probably best we don’t all descend on him like a pack of hyenas. He’s skittish enough as it is.” Still, too bad it hadn’t been Frosti who’d gone after him instead of Cruella. Dee had seemed to respond better to a friendly face.
“Ben and Ves will keep Cruella from doing anything too drastic,” Victoire said, seemingly reading Aimee’s thoughts. Her painted brows creased into a frown. “Seriously though, Aim… Why’d you let him leave in the first place?”
Defensiveness made it tempting to point out that anyone in the room could have stopped Dee, but Aimee bit down on that retort. They’d been following her lead. Instead, she shrugged. “Caught me by surprise, I guess. Didn’t think he’d resist the Sleep spell.” And with Dee staring down at her like she was some sort of kidnapper, she hadn’t wanted to act like one. She hadn’t wanted to be the villain he saw her as. Saying that last bit aloud felt silly, though.
It was Frosti’s turn to be annoyingly perceptive. “Don’t worry, Aimee. Dee will understand once we explain things better. This has gotta be a really weird scary night for him. But if he knows what’s at stake, I’m sure he’ll listen.” When performing, Frosti tended to adopt a chipper, girlish tone, but she didn’t bother off-stage, and her regular voice was warmly comforting.
“Aimee! Problem!”
Ben was back, the braids of her headpiece swinging around her ears like long pale ropes as she stuck her head through the doorway. She looked as if she’d been running. Aimee felt trepidation clench at her stomach. What had gone wrong now?
“You couldn’t find him?”
Ben shook her head. “No, but it’s not just that. Someone’s been tampering with the ward around Hex. There’s an opening. Right at the employee entrance at the back. And whoever broke it down there didn’t bother putting it back in place.”
Aimee’s forehead furrowed beneath the unmoving arches of her drawn-on brows. “Where are Hector and Perdita? I told them to keep watch on the ward once Dee came through the portal.”
Ben’s face was pinched in concern. “Can’t find them either. Do you think–”
“Aimee!” This time it was Cruella’s sharp voice that interrupted. If Ben looked ruffled, it was nothing on Cruella, who skidded to a stop in the doorway and had to brace against it to catch her breath, swaying slightly in her heels.
“What now?” Aimee demanded. Things were going pear-shaped quickly.
Cruella swiped a hand through her wig, pushing the hair back from her scowling face. “I spoke to the DJ. She’d just been out back for a smoke and passed someone matching Dee’s description stomping off toward the exit on her way back in. She thought it was weird ‘cuz she didn’t recognize him, but reckoned he might’ve been with one of us.” Despite the urgency of the moment, she took the time to roll her eyes.
“Then why didn’t you–”
But Cruella spoke over Aimee’s question. “I looked. He’s nowhere out back.”
“If he went that way, it must’ve been only a couple minutes ago,” Ben said. “Hang on, let me pull up the CCTV.” She wasted no time starting up a Hum, weaving magic in the air before her with practised motions. The air shimmered, then shifted into a slightly warped, semi-transparent image. Ben was projecting the rear security camera’s footage into the room.
“Rewind five minutes, then go from there,” Aimee said, squinting at the camera’s view. It showed the small parking lot behind the club, lit by a few streetlamps and currently occupied only by Vesper, who was looking around in obvious consternation. Ben changed the pitch of the incantation and the image blurred, reversing back to a few minutes prior.
Now the car park looked empty, save for a rat nibbling at litter and some moths fluttering in the lamplight. Then–
“There’s Dee,” Frosti said, pointing as a figure came into view. Dee’s shoulders were hunched and though they couldn’t see his face from the camera’s angle, it was clear that he was fuming. There was no sound, but he looked to be talking angrily to himself, gesticulating with his hands.
“Idiot,” muttered Cruella.
Tumblr media
“Oh fuck, look!” Victoire pointed this time, finger passing through the projected image as sudden movement in the parking lot made Dee look up. A shadow had fallen across him and then he was pushed violently back by a large figure. He’d been caught by surprise and the observing queens winced as they watched his head collide with the brick wall of the club. Dee stumbled and fell limp into the arms of his assailant, a brawny man whose face was mostly hidden beneath long curly hair and a bushy beard. A second figure hurried forward to help him.
“Dammit!” Aimee ground her teeth. “Arthur. And that squirrelly little channeller of his!” In the camera’s projection, the pair of cultists were already dragging Dee out of view. And this footage was already minutes old. They were long gone now. Probably through a portal. “Dammit!” she cursed again. “The ward wouldn’t have let them get that close if it hadn’t been broken. Where the hell are Hector and Perdita?”
“No time to worry about that now,” said Ben, ending the spell. The image vanished from the air in front of her. “If we want to have any chance of catching up to them, we have to act fast.”
“To do what?” asked Frosti. She was staring wide-eyed around at them, hands balled into fists. “If they’ve got him again, how can we find him?”
Ben paid her no mind. She was staring at Aimee. Or rather, at Aimee’s dress. Aimee followed her gaze down to the dark patch of Dee’s blood on her side. Hope sparked anew, tentative but persistent.
“It might just be enough,” she said slowly. Determination was setting in. “Cruella, go get Vesper. We have a Tracking spell to run.”

Pornography creators, law enforcement, parents and the public asked for views as government investigates impact of pornography
views to be collected on impact of emerging tech, such as AI and virtual reality, on pornography
results will inform independent Pornography Review that will cover harm caused to sexual relationships and violence against women in wider society
Law enforcers, pornography makers, parents and the public are being asked to help shape the future of pornography regulation in the UK from today (Thursday 11 January) as the government launches a wide-ranging call for evidence as part of its review of the pornography industry.
The questionnaire, which closes on Thursday 7 March will collect evidence on the impact of pornographic content on relationships, sexual behaviours, mental health and people’s views of women and girls.
This exercise will provide independent Lead Reviewer Baroness Bertin with evidence that represents the views of those in the industry itself and the public, which will be used to develop recommendations for the government to undertake.
The substantial impact that new technologies have had on the pornography industry will also be covered, with respondents asked for their thoughts on how AI and virtual reality have changed how pornography is made, accessed and viewed, as well as how this impacts viewers and the industry.
Law enforcement and the criminal justice system will have an opportunity to raise what challenges face them in identifying and tackling these issues in pornography – as well as giving the industry an opportunity to set out what it is doing to tackle them more effectively.
Lead Reviewer Baroness Bertin said:
Throughout this review, it is essential we engage directly with those who are most involved in the pornography industry and accurately establish what the general public thinks of the current rules governing pornography. We want to hear from a wide range of views, whether it be a worried parent, those enforcing the laws to stop exploitation or someone directing or performing in pornography themselves, to speak up and support our review. Extreme pornography can have a damaging impact - we owe it to our children and indeed to the whole of society to put the guard rails back in place. This review will help us fully understand what we must now do to protect those most affected as well as future proofing the law to keep pace with an ever-evolving pornography industry.
Minister for Tech and the Digital Economy Saqib Bhatti said:
The Pornography Review will be key to informing what we do next to tackle any harmful impact the industry may have on those working within it, or society at large. The invaluable evidence the public, experts and industry provide will be integral to what Baroness Bertin recommends later this year.
Ian Critchley, QPM, National Police Chiefs’ Council lead for Child Abuse and Investigation said:
I very much welcome this government commissioned review led by Baroness Bertin. It is one that is essential in tackling harmful sexual behaviours. This is in addition to the whole scale use of smart devices by teenagers and now under 10s, which gives them increased access to harmful material including violent pornography and indecent images of children. The Online Safety Act is one of the most important pieces of legislation for a generation and it will help us to improve the safety of children and young people. In tandem with this review will provide a greater evidence base allowing us to better understand the impact violent pornography is having on the behaviour of young people and adults who continue to pose the greatest risk of harm to children. It will then ensure we can work together across agencies to prevent what has become normalised behaviour which is causing some of the greatest harm often with lifelong consequences.
The Pornography Review, announced last year, builds on the government’s work to take the long-term decisions for a better future for our children and grandchildren through the Online Safety Act, by stopping children from accessing pornography online by requiring services to establish the age of their users, including through age verification and age estimation tools.
Read the pornography regulation, legislation and enforcement call for evidence here.

Hey y’all! Been awhile since I’ve posted anything here, or talked about RvB or RT at all, but with the recent news I wanted to just sit and talk for a bit about what it means to me.
It’s surreal to hear that RT is officially finally going under, it’s extremely bittersweet to me. On one hand, RvB is something that got me through alot emotionally in my high school years! I have (mostly) fond memories of the community, and even some of the bizarre/negative ones I can look back on fondly. But then of course, there were so many issues with RT it’s impossible to know where to even start. And the there the fact it’s ghoulish how Warner Bros has shut down an entire company they just barely acquired with very little communication to seemingly anyone working there. My heart goes out to all the folks whose livelihoods are at risk because of all this.
RvB, and by extension RT, has been a huge part of my life, for better and for worse. So: Thank You! Thank you to the theorists, to the fan artists. To the people who I ran a server with, the people who listened to my rambles. To the people who adored RvB0 just as I did, to the people who couldn’t stand it. Y’all made this community something damn special! And I’m sure it’ll continue on just the same 💞
Oh and by the by, fellow RvB0 mutuals (if y’all are still out there), I’ll always be around to talk about our favorite rag tag group of misfits. My main is @hydinghoney! And I am currently running an ask blog for Quincey P. Morris (@qpm-gallantgentleman) so feel free to reach out and bother me! I hope y’all are well!
This blog isn’t going down, I may return to it properly at some point! After all, just because something is gone doesn’t mean folks should stop loving it and discussing it! But for now this blog is just a memory capsule, until maybe someday i decided to open it again. Ain’t that a bitch.

with / without roses
not sure exactly what to call this. yellow marriage? it's a flag for queerplatonic marriage, i.e. a qpr where the two(+) partners consider themselves to be married, platonically. using the yellow rose as a famous symbol of friendship and platonic love. a person in a qpm (queerplatonic marriage) may call their partner a qps/qpw/qph (queerplatonic spouse, wife, husband) or just a spouse, wife or husband
