November 11, 2023—Hospitals in Gaza have been under relentless bombardment over the past 24 hours. Al-Shifa Hospital complex, the biggest health facility where staff for Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontiéres (MSF) are still working, has been hit several times, including the maternity and outpatient departments, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries.

The hostilities around the hospital have not stopped. MSF teams and hundreds of patients are still inside Al-Shifa Hospital. MSF urgently reiterates its calls to stop the attacks against hospitals, for an immediate ceasefire, and for the protection of medical facilities, medical staff, and patients.

“We are being killed here, please do something," texted one of MSF's nurses from the basement of Al-Shifa Hospital this morning, where he and his family were sheltering from the incessant bombing. “Four or five families are sheltering now in the basement, the shelling is so close, my kids are crying and screaming in fear.”

"The situation in Al-Shifa is truly catastrophic," said Ann Taylor, MSF's Head of Mission in Palestine. "We call on the Israeli government to cease this unrelenting assault on Gaza’s health system. Our staff and patients are inside Al-Shifa Hospital, where the heavy bombing has not stopped since yesterday.” [...]

MSF denounces this death warrant on civilians currently trapped in Al-Shifa Hospital signed by the Israeli military. There needs to be an urgent and unconditional ceasefire between all warring parties; humanitarian aid must be supplied to the entirety of Gaza now.

At Al-Quds Hospital, MSF has lost contact with a surgeon who is working and sheltering there with his family. Other health facilities, including Al Rantisi Hospital, which MSF has also supported in the past, were reportedly surrounded by Israeli tanks.

I mean, yes, the universe is huge and full of so many people and animals and plants and things. And yes, many people believe that, in the grand scheme of things, everything is meaningless and insignificant. But SO WHAT?! I'm here telling you that, even if it's true that nothing really matters, YOU STILL DO!! You have value and worth and meaning to others, to me, and maybe even to yourself, and THAT MATTERS! That is important! What you do with your short time on this little planet, no matter how big or small, is meaningful. Your existence matters. Whether or not you think you do, you have an effect on this world and the people in it!! Your thoughts, your actions, your words, the work you do, the art you make, the love others have for you, the love you have for them, IT ALL MEANS SOMETHING!!

I know the world can be so dark and so depressing and so painful... But it can also be so extraordinary and beautiful and breathtaking. It's full of your loved ones, your favorite movies and TV shows, good food, gorgeous places to be and see, music, colors, love, light, and more!! Isn't that worth something? Isn't that worth fighting for?

I know life can get so hard... so very, very hard. But you have to get back up when it kicks you down, every time. You have to fight. Because the beings who love you want you here. Because your life has meaning. Because you deserve safety, security, and happiness. Because, even if you don't love yourself right now, you are always worth fighting for. No matter what you think or what anyone says or anything else, you are worth it. You are loved, you are worthy, and you are important. Please don't ever let anyone diminish your value in this world. this year my challenge for everyone is to unlearn the association between love and morality. love is not something that is inherently morally good, and the absence of love is not something that is inherently bad. sex without love isn't morally bankrupt, it's just an action. people without love aren't less kind or less good, they're just people. when we can get past this false (and often unnoticed) dichotomy of good love/evil lovelessness then i think we are going to be able to take leaps and bounds in sex positivity, aro advocacy, certain discussions of mental health...

#and also. not the direct focus. but love doesn't make things good. you can be in love and do terrible terrible things. #people do bad things in the name of love and in despite of love all the time. #but!! imagine a world where people could exist as people and not be demonized. #sex positivity means being cool about All sex. reexamine your internal systems of moral judgement. #this goes for sex workers. for aroallo people. especially aroallo men. for aro people in general who might enjoy sex. #and frankly i think it can easily bleed into discussions about mental health disorders around 'not feeling' certain things #especially demonizing ppl who don't feel as much empathy. i think there's definitely a correlation between that and the emphasis on love. #our support needs to go out to Everybody and i think these things are all structured together in one way or another!! #it might not be immediately obvious but when i tell you it all leads back to amatonormativity..... little bit wild.... large bit wild.... #anyway. horror movie psychopath 'oh he can't feel emotions or love' damn alright. well. let's take a closer look at that. #silly that there's an association between lack of love and Murdering. feel like that might affect some stuff. #love is just an emotion/a feeling it doesn't mean anything about you one way or another #same with empathy. you can feel it all you want but it doesn't inherently change the actions you choose to take #anyway. thesis statement. there is a socially constructed link between love and morality. unlearn that. #kiss kiss (<— lovelessly) #aromantic #aromanticism #arospec #talking #aroace #aspec #sex positivity

my secret confession is i think a lot of current art in comics is pretty but sometimes way too glossy and lifeless... it kinda feels like a sticker sheet where they just swap out generic stock poses that they have on hand for that character rather than the art being reflective of the actual story and moment the character is currently in

#does this make sense #like its generic 'heres this character with a hand on their hip. this is their idle position. their arms are stiffly raised now to talk. #theyre back to their idle pose (2nd version). heres them suddenly springing to life (aka arms over head as they fly abruptly and stiffly). #they land the exact same way everytime regardless of where theyre at (fist clenched by their sides)' #like it feels like different poses you can alternate between in a dress up game rather than being present in the story #wheres the expressions! the body language! the moment! the way they differently carry themselves! #i know im biased for older styles but :// idk it sometimes feels lifeless in a sense #but im not an artist so. cant complain too much. gorgeous art but it's like you can see where capitalism and demand to be sellable #kills any creative input or fun twist that makes that artist or that arc remarkable and rememberable #but whatever.... 70s and 80s comics save me..... #ransom note
