Late A Day In My Life | Easter Sunday Edition
5:15pm - Plan for Next Week (Monday - Saturday) With midterms out of the way and only two weeks left in class, planning for next week is my first task of this study session. I do all of my planning using iCalendar and Google Calendar. I do this because of the reminders I'm able to set for my MacBook and my phone.
Tumblr media
5:25 - Begin Taking Notes for Next Week For the next 20 minutes, I will be taking notes to prep for next week. I take my notes digitally using Microsoft Word and always love how they turn out.
I didn't get much done in the 20 minutes, but I did get a good start. When originally writing my notes, I never pay attention to grammar as they are meant to be quick. At the end of the topic (week) I go back and rewrite anything necessary and improve any grammar or spelling issues. By mainly, if I can read them and can get through the week with them, that's all that matters.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5:45 - 15 Minute Break While some may question why I take a break after 30 minutes of work, it's to refresh my mind and allow my eyes a break from the computer screens I work in front of. During this time, I usually read my Bible or another book I've been reading. Today, I'm reading my Bible - especially scripture surrounding Jesus Christ's rebirth from the dead.
6:00 - Bible Study and Journaling Considering I read from the Bible during my break, I start to deep dive into my Bible study and journaling for the week.
I read Luke 24:1-12, the scripture for which we get the Christian traditions of the Easter holiday during this session. After reading the scripture, I wrote down anything that stuck with me in my journal.
6:30 - Long Break from Work to Watch Hop An Easter tradition my girlfriend started me on a few years ago is to watch the movie Hop. Thus, to wind down a bit, she suggested watching the movie. I agreed.
8:10 - Return to Bible Journaling My next session includes reading Esther Chapter 1 (Esther 1:1-22). Just like with Luke 24:1-12, after reading, I took notes on what stuck with me.
8:30pm - Wind Down for Bed After completing my Bible journaling, I decided to curl up in bed and wind down with a book before falling asleep.
Today was very productive and I'm happy to say that I'm proud of myself for what I achieved and accomplished. While I did take a ton of breaks and did get started late, I still got a lot done - especially considering I didn't have anything that needed turned in.

As soon as you get out of your last class of the day, your phone rings.
You answer it, wedging the phone between your ear and shoulder as you fish in your bag for a couple of bills. You're already walking to the train station.
"Hi, snookie bear," you say into the phone, slightly delirious with hunger and sleep deprivation.
Jason snorts on the other end. "That's a new one. Hey, baby. Y'heading home?"
"Indeed I am."
"Need a ride?"
You wait and listen. Eventually, you hear the sounds of hitting and grunting in the background. You roll your eyes—only Jason would be in the middle of a fight and then ask if you need a ride home.
"No, I'm okay. It's not dark yet. Plus you sound busy."
"I'm never too busy for you," he says immediately. "And it's gonna get dark in an hour. Are you sure—"
"Yes, Jay," you say gently. "I'm sure. Don't worry about me. I'm going straight home."
You're already at the station. There's a good amount of people, students and workers alike. The university is in a relatively okay part of town, especially during the day. You're not worried. It's not like you traipse through Crime Alley on your downtime.
"Okay." Jason takes a deep breath. "Just—just be careful. Text me when you get home."
You note the hint of worry in his tone. Maybe this week has been particularly saturated with crime. Jason tends to get a little overbearing about your safety when he's had a tough week. You know he had go down to Blüdhaven and help his brother—with what specifically, you don't know.
Most of the time, you're sure you don't want to know.
"I always do," you say. The train pulls up to the station. "Ooh, train's here! I'll talk to you later. I'm thinking of ordering takeout. Too tired to cook."
"Okay, sweetheart. Be safe. Love you. Lock your door."
You roll your eyes fondly. "Yes, Jay. Love you too. Bye."
You hang up as you step onto the train. You pull your headphones out of your bag and shut your brain off during the ride. By the time you get off the train, you've lost hope that you'll be doing any work tonight. You're absolutely wiped out after three back-to-back classes.
It's still light when you get home. You lock the door after you get in, the habit ingrained into you, and dump your bag onto the couch.
Takeout is a no-go. You're hungry now and about thirty seconds away from passing out on the couch.
You change into your home clothes, eat a granola bar, and call it a day. You'll eat more later.
You turn off your phone to bar any annoying notifications and fall into bed, eyes closing immediately.
****
The sound of your deadbolt being teared off its chain wakes you up. You flinch and jump awake, trying to blink through sleep. Your mouth is dry from how hard you slept, and your eyesight is slightly blurry from the sudden flood of moisture.
Your bedroom door swings open, and suddenly you're pulled into warm, heavily muscled arms. You hug back on instinct; you'd know the feel of your boyfriend anywhere.
"Jay, h—"
"You didn't text," he says, voice shaking. "You said you would. I was—I thought you were—"
You tense, guilt knocking into you.
"Shit. Jason, I'm so sorry. I meant to, I was just so tired..."
Jason pulls back to look at you, hands still on your shoulders. His expression is stern.
"I'm gonna pick you up from now on. When are your late days?"
"Jay, no, GCU is across town. You can't possibly pick me up three days a week. That's too much! What about patrol?"
"Somebody else is out at this time," he says stonily. "Crime Alley can wait an hour while I get you home."
His eyes blaze green, a side effect of the Pit. You can tell he's putting every effort into keeping a lid on the worry and fear and anger over your silence.
"Jason." You cup his face. "Honey, I'm safe. I'm sorry I didn't text you. I'm sorry I worried you. But your adrenaline is spiked right now, Jay. Everything feels magnified. I don't need to be picked up. I was perfectly safe coming home. Okay?"
He shakes his head, holding your wrists. "Anything could've happened. I was so—fuck, baby, I was so scared. I-I checked the station footage and the traffic cams, and I didn't see you after you cut through the park, and I thought—I was sure you'd—"
Jason pulls your arms around his neck and buries his face into your shoulder. He supports you by the backs of your thighs, tugging you into his lap. Then he clings tight.
"Oh, Jay," you murmur, petting his curls. "I'm alright. This end of Gotham isn't so bad. And I know you'd have found me even if something had happened. But nothing did."
"Can't lose you," he chokes out.
"You won't lose me, honey," you say. "You keep me safe."
He trembles in your embrace. You kiss the shell of his ear and continue to pet his hair.
"Let me pick you up tomorrow, at least," he pleads. "We'll get dumplings at that place you like. You barely ate anything when you came home."
"Okay, Jay," you say, because you know he needs that reassurance. He won't relax without it. "That sounds good."
You keep stroking his hair. "Y'wanna order in now?"
"In a minute."
Jason lays you both down on the bed. He throws a leg over yours and pulls you into his chest. It's now that you see just how much tension is locked in his shoulders. He's exhausted.
"Jus' wanna hold you for a bit," he says, lips resting on your shoulder.
He's drowsy, the adrenaline finally ebbing. You close your eyes and snuggle into his arms.
"You can hold me for as long as you want," you say, threading your fingers with his. "I'm not going anywhere."

Ghostlights as college roommates and maybe some identity shenanigans thrown in would be so fun! Maybe dannys doing a little vigilante work on the side as well to up the secret identity mayhem
Danny would like to say his college career is going well. Gotham isn’t where he was expecting to pursue higher education, but the engineering scholarship he got through the Wayne Educational Foundation was just too good to turn down. It even covered the cost of an apartment! Although, the apartment is shared with another student who got a Wayne scholarship.
Even with that, Danny lucked out and got a great roommate. Duke Thomas is chill, kind, respects Danny’s space and doesn’t throw wild parties or invite random people in at all hours of the day. He even joins Danny twice a week for study sessions!
Really, it would be the perfect college experience except for one thing: the ghosts.
Danny thought they’d stay in Amity Park. They had no reason to stray from the city where the portal was, and his parents are more than enough to keep most ghosts away. It took his friends, Jazz, and even Vlad to convince Danny that he wasn’t abandoning Amity Park and that the city wouldn’t fall while he took a few years to focus on himself.
He worried right up until he got to GCU and walked the campus for the first time. Then he decided to enjoy the four years he had on the scholarship to get his degree and live his own life like a normal person.
To say he’s pissed about the ghosts is an understatement.
The one thing he was looking forward to most is not being Phantom. Gotham is home to the Bats and they’re more than capable of handling everything in the city. It means there’s no need for him here and he can focus on school and enjoy going on invisible flights without worrying about being hunted down or having to fight a ghost.
“Are you fucking kidding me,” he mutters under his breath as he feels the familiar chill race up his throat, A cold mist wafts out of his mouth, curling around his words, and Danny quickly ducks his head and hides it from sight.
“Did you say something?” Duke asks, looking up from where he leans against the kitchen counter, squinting at a recipe on his phone.
“Nah,” Danny lies. “Just stressing.” He gestures to the papers he has spread out on the dining table, then stands up. “I’m gonna take a walk. Maybe that’ll get my brain to work correctly tonight.”
“Got your phone on you?”
Danny reflexively drops a hand to his pocket, checking that his phone is where it’s supposed to be. It’s what Duke asks every single time Danny mentions going out, worried about Danny being unprepared for Gotham. It’s nice of him, though Danny does wish he can say that he’s survived a lot worse than a few muggers.
“Got it.”
“Alright. I’ll try to work on dinner while you’re out.”
Danny nods and offers Duke a small wave before pulling his shoes on at the door. He grabs his keys and heads out, double checking that the door is locked behind him.
Then he glances around the hallway, checking that the coast is clear, and pulls up the chill of awareness in his chest. Slowly, he breathes out, watching the blue mist waft out and lead towards the stairwell.
“Wonder who it is this time,” he mutters to himself, going into the cold, concrete stairwell. It always feels a little off in there, as if he’s been removed from the rest of the world when the door closes behind him. His footsteps echo oddly in the space, so Danny chooses to fly instead, keeping his feet off the floor.
A few flights down is when he sees her: pale and translucent, a faint blue glow around her. She’s a familiar face. Emilia is one of the first of Gotham’s ghosts he’s met, leading to the rather unpleasant realization that ghosts don’t only come from the Infinite Realms. There’s a strange sort of magic in the very foundations of Gotham that makes it the way it is, creating ghosts that are different enough from what he’s used to that it leaves him off balance.
Gotham keeps her dead. Few get to pass on peacefully, and most have to wait until they grow weak and wither away, a second death, before they can be released from the living realm. The ghosts of Gotham are pale and weak, for the most part, and try to cling to him so grow stronger from his ectoplasm.
Most want him to help them pass on, or give them a way into the Infinite Realms. Some want him to bring justice to their killers. Others want to kill him and take his ectoplasm for their own so they can continue their reign of terror in Gotham, unable to be stopped even in death.
Emilia gives him warnings. It’s not always her, but she tends to be the one to draw him out of his apartment, pulling him into a vigilante lifestyle because he can’t bring himself to refuse anyone who asks for his help, and the dead in Gotham have no one else to ask.
“Danny,” she greets. “Nueve is out again. He’s going after the ghosts near Chantilly Street.”
“The sun isn’t even down yet,” Danny grumbles. Nueve, an old gang enforcer who died a few decades ago, cannibalizes other ghosts. It doesn’t destroy the other ghosts, not really, but it makes them feel pain when they shouldn’t be able to feel much at all. Taking their limited reserves of ectoplasm makes him momentarily stronger, and he uses that stolen strength to try to harm the living.
He’s been successful a few times. Danny makes sure to rip him apart as much as possible these days; he won’t be here forever, but he’s hoping that within his four years at GCU, he’ll be able to permanently stop Nueve.
Times like these, he misses having a Fenton Thermos with him. Though he’s not entirely sure it would work on Gotham’s ghosts with how different they are.
Emilia follows him down the stairwell to the ground floor. Once there, Danny shoves his hand into the floor, taking out the backpack he’s hidden in it. He’s done this change of clothes so often he can do it in just a minute now, hiding his face and pulling on gloves beneath a large hoodie with old ectoplasm stains along the sleeves and hem. A gas mask is pulled on as well, covering the bottom half of his face, a necessary addition to his Ghost Work Outfit™ after he almost got caught in some Fear Gas during Scarecrow’s last attack.
“Alright,” he says, “Lead the way.”
Emilia takes off through the wall and Danny hurries to follow, going invisible as he hits the streets.
It’s still early evening, the sun not yet fully set. Plenty of people walk along the sidewalks and cars pass by endlessly, honking at each other as they try to go twenty above the speed limit. Danny does his best to avoid running into everyone, deftly dodging the reaching hands of a few ghosts who spot him as he sprints by.
They only go a few blocks away from his apartment building, turning into a dead end alley where a group of teens (living, for once) are stuck with their backs to the wall, clinging to each other as they warily watch the man in front of them carelessly twirl a gun around his finger.
The man makes a strange clicking noise in the back of his throat, and it takes Danny a moment to realize that he’s trying to talk.
Still invisible, Danny sneaks around to stand in front of the teens, ready to bodily protect them. The man looks alive, and Danny see any ghosts around save for Emilia, standing at the mouth of the alley. There’s something strange about him; his movements seem just a little off, not quite as fluid as they should be. It’s not the movement of someone on drugs. It’s something that screams uncanny valley.
The gun’s handle drops solidly into the man’s palm. He makes another few clicks, then raising the gun to point at the teens.
“Bad idea, pal,” Danny says dropping his invisibility. The teens behind him startle, gasping and trying to press themselves further into the wall.
The man’s eyes flash weakly and the pieces click into place in Danny’s mind. Nueve must have gotten strong enough to possess someone. That is… alarming, to say the least.
He rips the gun out of the man’s hand and tosses it aside. Then he pushes away the man’s arm when Nueve makes a clumsy attempt to punch him. With his chest left wide open and undefended, Danny takes the chance to shove his hand into the man’s chest, feeling for the familiar chill of a ghost.
And then he wraps his fingers tight around it and pulls out Nueve, leaving the man to collapse.
The teens behind him scream and Danny winces.
Pulling out a faintly glowing human figure from someone’s physical body does not look good. It’s the best way to end a possession, but it does look alarmingly like he’s just ripped someone’s soul out of their body.
Keeping hold of Nueve’s ghost, Danny steps to the side. “You guys should go now. Take care.”
The teens don’t need any more prompting. They take off in a run, tripping over each other in their haste to get away.
Danny spares a glance to the man unconscious on the ground, but there’s nothing he can do with an angry ghost in his hands, so he has no choice but to leave him there as he flies up to a rooftop farther down the street.
“How many times do we need to do this, Nueve?” he asks tiredly, shaking the ghost.
“These streets should be mine!” Nueve howls, trying to break free of Danny’s grasp. But he’s quickly growing weak, his energy fading, and Danny’s holding back his own ectoplasm as tightly as he can. “They may have killed me, but that doesn’t mean I can’t still take what I’m owed!”
“Dude, you’re dead. There’s nothing here for you. Move on.”
“You don’t get to speak on this, outsider. You think a freak like you has an say over us? You can’t stop us. You don’t even know what’s coming.”
Danny squints at him. “What, are you planning a heist or something? With your gang of dead people too weak to lift a piece of paper?”
“We’re not all dead. We’ve got living folk helping us and we’ll be taking you out first when we hit the streets.”
“Good luck with that,” Danny says flatly, “Begone with you.”
Without giving Nueve a chance to say another word, he rips Nueve’s head off his body. His ghost wavers, then dissipates like smoke, fading away.
Another side effect of whatever it is Gotham does to her dead: their ghost forms are remarkably fragile and it takes only a bit of strength to tear them to shreds, giving him some peace before they reform again. It won’t stop Nueve from striking out again, gathering enough strength until he’s able to possess some other unfortunate soul, but Danny’s bought himself some time to figure out what the hell was he talking about?
There are living folk involved with whatever he’s planning. It’s probably another gang, maybe someone with magic who is able to see ghosts? Which is not great. Danny doesn’t know much about magic; even when facing ghosts who used magic or magical artifacts, his go to method of dealing with them is to start throwing hands like there’s no tomorrow.
Well.
It’s a problem for later.
For now, Danny needs to get back to his apartment and work on his calculus homework. Hopefully he can finish it before he gets frustrated enough that he gives up and lies face down on the floor until Duke manhandles him onto the couch, where he’s less of a tripping hazard.
He’s just about to get back to street level when his Fenton Luck strikes again and he hears someone land on the roof, just a few feet behind him.
“Hey there, stranger,” the Signal says. “You know, we run into each other so often it feels rude not to introduce ourselves. Why don’t you go first?”
Danny turns to face the daylight vigilante, standing with his arms crossed as if that would make him look any more approachable. He’s been popping up wherever Danny’s out dealing with ghosts, which is very not great for Danny’s plans to have a peaceful, normal college life.
Biting his tongue, Danny gives the Signal a quick two fingered salute, then goes intangible and drops down through the building. His invisibility sweeps over him and then he’s running through the streets, hoping it’s enough to keep the Signal from following him to his apartment.
He skids to a stop in the stairwell, dropping his intangibility just in time to crash into the wall. Panting, Danny waits for a tense minute to see if he’s been followed.
When the door to the stairwell remains closed, he lets out a slow breath, then pulls off all the pieces of his Ghost Work Outfit, shoving it back into his bag. He takes a moment to fix his hair, messy from the hood, then shoves the bag back into the floor, safely hidden from curious eyes.
Then he very casually walks up the stairs to the fifth floor and walks down the hallway to his apartment. His keys clang together when he opens the door, and Duke usually hears it when it does, but just in case, Danny calls out, “I’m back!”
He’s learned to announce himself after a few late night walks almost ended with him tackled to the floor when Duke thought someone was breaking in.
Duke doesn’t respond as he toes off his shoes. The stillness in the apartment feels off, as if the world is holding its breath. Cautiously, Danny walks in, trying to find his roommate.
He’s not in the kitchen. The living room is empty. Duke’s bedroom door is open and he’s not in there either.
Something cold lodges itself in his chest.
“Duke?” he tries again, looking over their apartment again for any sign of struggle, or something terrible happening, or even a mess that Duke needed more supplies to clean up.
There’s nothing. The apartment is as it’s always been, just with an empty space where Duke should be.
Worried, Danny stands in the middle of the hallway, trying to figure out what he should do next. It’s because he’s standing so still, surrounded by silence, that he hears it: a light thud outside the window.
Danny turns and he can swear he sees something large moving outside the window, disappearing from sight just as Danny takes a step into Duke’s room to check on it. He rushes to the window and pushes it open, looking down at the street, then side to side, and finally up to the last three floors of the building.
Nothing’s there.
Slowly, Danny pulls his head back inside, closing and locking the window. “Must be my imagination,” he says, trying to convince himself it’s not a big deal.
He leaves Duke’s room and begins pacing down the hall, anxiety building steadily in him.
His phones in his hand before he can think his actions through, Duke’s contact pulled up on the screen. He should call. He should make sure Duke is okay, but Danny hesitates. Is this something to be freaked out over? Would Duke thing he’s clingy and nervous and a bothersome roommate? He doesn’t want to risk Duke asking for a new roommate next year when the lease renews.
But he’s worried. It’s Gotham and Danny just dealt with a violent, murderous ghost threatening him. Duke can deal with a stressed out, worried Danny if it means he’s alive.
He hits the call button before he can talk himself out of it. It rings on and on and on until Danny starts to panic about having to find Duke’s ghost to avenge his murder.
The front door is thrown open so suddenly and so loudly, Danny jumps and his phone clatters to the floor.
“Danny! Hey!” Duke says with a bright smile, trying to catch his breath. He’s still holding onto the doorknob, slightly hunched over as he pants for breath. “I didn’t expect you back so soon.”
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah! Yeah, I’m totally fine.”
“Where were you?”
Duke straightens up and closes the door, kicking off his shoes. “Oh, just… out. Shopping. For dinner.”
Danny looks over his empty hands doubtfully. “No luck finding what you needed?”
“Nope!”
“What did you need? Maybe I can go to a different store and get it for you.”
“You don’t need to!” Duke says. “I just needed… tomatoes?”
Danny blinks at him. “We have tomatoes. Did you not know we had tomatoes in the fridge?”
“Oh, do we? Good to know.”
There’s something very weird about this conversation, but Danny doesn’t pry. Duke is weird sometimes, but it’s fine because he kindly ignores some of Danny’s oddities that come from being a halfa and a semi-retired hero.
“Do you… maybe wanna sit down? Catch your breath? I can make dinner tonight if you want.”
Duke waves a hand in the air. “No, no, it’s fine. I got this. Anyways, how was your walk?”
He definitely shouldn’t talk about the cannibal ghost and his threats to take out Danny with his gang. “It was nice. Very quiet. You know, for Gotham.” He punctuates this with an awkward thumbs up and immediately regrets it, but it’s already done so he commits to it.
“Cool! Great. Just wondering, did you see anything weird?”
“Depends on what you’re asking about?”
“Just some guy wearing black with a hood covering his face. He’s been active in this neighborhood and I saw some people talk about him online. Apparently he just appears out of thin air.”
Danny tries not to wince. That’s him, alright. Gotham’s newest neighborhood menace. “I don’t think so, but there’s a lot of people in Gotham that were all black and walk around with their hood up.”
“True,” Duke concedes. “Well, just be careful when you go out, alright?”
“I always am.” He gives Duke the same two fingered salute he gave the Signal. Duke stares at him for a moment, eyes dark and almost dangerous, then he smiles and walks into the kitchen.
“Wanna make dinner with me? I think we can figure out this recipe together. Unless you need to do your homework.”
“It can wait!” Danny hurries to join Duke, grateful for an excuse to push off calculus a little longer. He understands what he’s doing in the class, there’s just… so much work. He doesn’t even want to think about the tests. The tests make everyone cry.
“Alright, let’s get to it, then!”
“You’re in charge, chef,” Danny says, laughingly, and bumps against Duke’s side. He expects a light shove in return, something Sam and Tucker always did, but Duke goes tense instead, letting out a sharp breath that Danny is all too familiar with. “Wait, why are you hurt? What happened?!”
He goes to lift up Duke’s shirt to inspect his shirt, see the damage for himself, but Duke smoothly moves out of the way, grabbing Danny’s wrists and stopping him in his tracks. “I’m fine, Danny. I just got hit. Lightly. Minor bruising, really.”
Danny looks at him doubtfully, then wrenches a wrist free to lift up his shirt before he can move again.
Minor bruising is not how Danny would describe the blues and purples that decorate Duke’s entire side. He can see the outline of Duke’s ribs through the bruising. “How is this being lightly bruised? What hit you?”
“A car?”
“A car?!”
Duke winces, then pulls his shirt down. “I’m fine, Danny, really. It was just from a car that didn’t want to stop at a red light. I stopped another person from being hit, but the car got me pretty solidly. You know how bad Gotham drivers are.”
“Sit down!” Danny says, pulling Duke out of the kitchen. “I don’t understand how you’re still standing. I’ll get some ice, and I’ll handle dinner. You just stay there and stop pushing yourself for no reason.”
“Playing nurse for me now?”
“If I have to.”
“Would you wear a nurse costume for me, too?” Duke jokes.
Danny looks him dead in the eye and says, “If I have to. Would that make you follow my instructions? A tight little nurse dress?”
Duke sputters, cheeks darkening, and looks away. Danny grins, victorious, and darts back to the kitchen to grab an ice pack from the fridge.
“Maybe I’ll wear one for you anyways, once you’re all healed up. Only if you’re good, though.”
“Danny, you’re killing me here.”
“Better me than a car.”
Duke laughs and takes the ice pack, pressing it against his side carefully. “Oh, for sure. Thanks, Danny.”
“Hey, what are roommates for?” Danny shares a warm smile with Duke, then pats his shoulder and heads back to the kitchen to start making a simple pasta dinner.
Life in Gotham is weird and stressful and full of ghosts and heroes who won’t leave him alone. But it’s not all that bad, really. He’s happy with how he’s doing in college, and he’s beyond lucky to have Duke as a roommate. So long as Duke never finds out about his halfa status, then he’s sure they’ll be able to last all four years rooming together.
He just needs to keep a secret.
Shouldn’t be too hard, right?

riddler design stuff for the insane gotham universe that lives in my head, more content below the cut!!!
Tumblr media
-Ed is a liguistics major at GCU, but they also have learned multiple languages as part of their upbringing.
-they took a particular interest in their professor Kristen Kringle, who is much more interested in their work and much kinder to them than both other professors and other students. They take any extra chance they can to be in her classroom or in her presence, even if they know she thinks of them as nothing more than a particularly bright student.
-Due to trying to save money to leave their tumultuous living situation, they work some odd jobs for Ms. Gertrude Kapelput, AKA the Penguin, and the owner of the Iceburg Lounge. They got the job per professor Kringles recommendation. Eds main tasks are hacking into chatlogs and private servers owned by penguins enemies and unscrambling whatever codewords or codes they use to communicate incognito. The job also sometimes involves translating things from other languages.
-Ms. Kapelput, despite being a hardass, actually quite likes Ed, and sees a lot of potential in how he can help her run the underworld. Ed is still very bright-eyed and naive, but is still very troubled. After all, hes still willing to decode what she needs without blinking an eye at the horrifying shit they have to read, and tend to just be enthusiastic about getting to solve a puzzle. Kapelput has an interest in using that to her advantage to get Ed as her right hand man.
-Because penguin both likes and trusts Ed, she often calls them to her personal residence to help with whatever important information just came in. Ed doesn't like going to her home when her son, Oswald is around, though.
-Oswald graduated high school a couple years after Ed, and has just been generally freeloading and getting into debauchery since. He and Ed don't quite get along, but its almost exclusively Oswald bothering Ed from their work and trying to get them in trouble for kicks.

DC COMICS VERSE. ― SUMMARY. Thomas Michael Shelby is a cutthroat politician, Founder & CEO of a successful import/export company known as Shelby Company International, & the leader of a well-known gang called the Peaky Blinders: a vicious, razor-wielding group of extremely loyal members that own and run the Coventry Dock in Gotham, controlling all of the ports associated with it as well as the import & export of illegal goods & the flow of money in & out of the city. They have politicians, police, & doctors in their pockets. There is not a single soul within a ten-mile radius of Coventry Dock that doesn't recognize the name Shelby.
Terrifying rumors circulate through the city about how the Blinders are led by a dead man who sold his soul & was resurrected in exchange for the power & intelligence required to take down the heroes of Gotham City ― especially Batman.

DC COMICS VERSE. ― FULL. THOMAS SHELBY IS DEAD. That is what all of the official documents say. According to city records, Tommy Shelby, having been awarded a full-ride scholarship to Gotham City University ( GCU ), began attending school at 18. His grades were stellar & despite his social class & lower economic status, he proved himself to be as worthy of an Ivy League degree as even the richest of students. During his Junior year he met and fell in love with someone, but the relationship did not work out, & Tommy found himself in a severe depressive state. After several unsuccessful attempts by his counselor to offer him treatment solutions, he was sent to the nearby Arkham Asylum for a 72-hour suicide watch.
He'd been released from Arkham following this 72-hour hold, having been declared to no longer be a danger to himself or others. According to official records, Thomas Shelby proceeded to walk out of the front doors of the psychiatric hospital & promptly jump in front of a bus & end his own life at the tender age of 21. According to the coroner, the body was far too mutilated for an "open casket" funeral, & they cremated it, not taking into account the fact that Tommy & his family do not practice Christian burials  ―  they burn their dead.
The Shelby family burns a wagon with an empty bed inside; a wagon filled with Tommy's possessions & memories. They mourn him. They let him go. They get over it.
Meanwhile, Tommy spends almost two years rotting away in the underbelly of Arkham Asylum ― experimented on, manipulated, murdered. The boy that had gone in for a mental health crisis had never come back out again. At the time that Thomas was attending GCU, Arkham Asylum was in the habit of testing new psychiatric medications on otherwise healthy individuals in order to document their side effects.
Of course, testing on people is illegal. They only tested on lab mice, rats, a select number of orangutans &, undocumented human patients that they assumed would not be missed.
Some of the trial medications did nothing. Some of them caused horrible physical symptoms like liver and kidney damage. The worst ones, though, were the ones that made him hallucinate wildly; the ones that put him at the mercy of his own brain & made him stop trusting his own senses. Things he heard or saw or felt or smelled had an equal chance of being fake as they did of being real.
Most of it is nothing but a vague, hazy memory. He remembers pain. He remembers fear. He remembers the names & faces of the doctors & nurses in whose charge he stayed. The thing he remembers most, though, is the other patients. The way they all prayed for the Batman to come save them, the shrines they erected in honor of their blessed heroes. & he remembers that those heroes never came. They existed merely to give false hope to the needy, & to bring those they deemed insane here, to be fed upon by the parasitic social structure. This observation planted a seed in his soul, which he diligently watered & nursed into full-blown hatred.
It didn't take long for Tommy to gain enough trust of an insecure doctor to pick their pocket & take their keycard. It took him a little longer to start learning the layout of the building; he'd leave for a few minutes each night, going a little farther each time, returning to his cell to mark the locations of guards & cameras & exits. He had no intention of breaking himself out; he just needed to find an office with a phone that dialed the outside world, then find someone who knew the passcode to do so. Altogether the process took a little over a year.
Once he'd contacted his family & relayed the plan to them, however, Tommy only had to wait for thirteen more days before a pipe bomb freed him & a number of other patients housed near him.
Upon his release, Thomas Shelby built quite the name for himself. With patience, skill, & strategy, he was able to take over the Coventry dock & all of its ports; the Peaky Blinders control all of the imports & exports & all of their respective profits. They have plenty of prominent cops, detectives, politicians, & doctors on their payroll. The name Thomas Shelby swiftly became synonymous with ruthless tactics, cunning plans, bold fearlessness, & razor blades.
Next, Tommy had become increasingly more involved in the local community, carefully curating a reputation for being dependable & altruistic. He made himself seen around town, greasing the right palms, remembering the right names & faces & small details they mentioned. People now know his name. They remember his face. Local business owners respect him for his willingness to assist them in small tasks & for his consistent patronage. Soon, Thomas was elected onto the boards of a few prominent businesses: hospitals, schools, non-profit organizations. He garnered notoriety for his strong leadership skills & successfully gained the reverence of the lower-class citizens among whom he dwells. Tommy is now considered a pillar of the community, genuinely respected & said to be reliable, intelligent, & philanthropic.
Once he's able to finance his campaign he begins to involve himself in the muddy world of politics. His face becomes commonplace in most homes as he begins to film & produce campaign ads, participate in interviews for newspapers & magazines & television shows, explaining that his agenda is to give a voice to those who have been silenced, to stand a fight for those whom Gotham has tried to quietly dispose of. He openly criticizes the platforms of other mainstream politicians and their methods, often using ruthless blackmail to manipulate his competitors behind the scenes.
After establishing his empire, many things become clear about his time spent in Arkham. He walks with stiff joints and uses a mobility aid more often than not ( he favors a cane ). His bones ache, especially in the cold. Most mornings he has a limp. His face is gaunt & hollow, his eyes haunted & filled with the kind of coldness that can only be earned, not faked. The severe claustrophobia is the worst of it all.
There are other things, too; much less explainable things.
He never loses a coin toss. His aim is consistently deadly. He has uncanny intuition ; sometimes he's even able to tell what someone is thinking, down to the very word. He has prophetic dreams. Polly calls it Luck Magic. Tommy thinks he can reasonably guess which chemical compound they'd shot into his veins had been the one to do it ; but he can never be sure. & anyway, it doesn't matter.
Either way, he's going to kill the Batman.

º ✧ 。 shaye don't be lazy, write up all the verses you have !
NO, i think i'd rather pull my hair out by the roots and stuff myself into a meat grinder 🥰 but i WILL give you a brief summary of each, just so you all know your options when deciding to interact with mj ! some of these are SHIP LOCKED - aka she is always in those relationships with that specific version of the character when i write in those verses. but the others are wide open for shipping if that's your thing :)
Tumblr media
insomniac verse - mj's MAIN/DEFAULT verse !
threads based before, during, and after the events of marvel's spider-man (and soon to be the sequel!). mj is an associate editor at the daily bugle, focused on the "city beat" aka crime and politics. she is dating peter, unless otherwise specified ahead of time, and lives in a one bedroom apartment in greenwich. she was childhood best friends with harry osborn and serves as a sort of big sister to miles as he steps into his own as a spider-man
tasm verse - ship locked with @labwebs !
this verse draws heavy inspiration from insomniac but there are some key differences/details - in this verse mj was one of gwen's BEST friends, though they ran in such different social circles that she never met peter while they were dating. this mj is also much more comfortable with the concept of the multiverse because of her boyfriend and has traveled to different universes herself.
actress verse -
fresh out of ESU, a once in a lifetime audition brokered by her favorite professor skyrocketed mj into fame. she landed the role of kinsley james, a young lawyer with a temper as fiery as her hair, on hbo's latest juggernaut eros (think scandal written by the succession writers). nominated for an emmy for supporting actress after the first season, mj's star continued to rise after it was announced that she would be playing the lead role of rebecca in the long past dawn book series movie adaptations. she splits her time between new york and LA, depending on where she's currently filming.
ITSV verse -
mj is the wife and partner of peter b, not to mention the mother to his perfect child, mayday. she has taken a break from her acting career to focus on their daughter, and occasionally volunteers at the F.E.A.S.T. center in the free time she gets when Peter takes their daughter places he shouldn't.
noir verse - ship locked with @surpriseattack !
ohhhh wow look ANOTHER reporter!mj. yes, yes it is and you'll LIKE it. mj works side by side with noir on his various cases as his partner, even if the title is unofficial. she had dreams of becoming a model or an actress when she was in school, and frankly still does if you ask her. but when the depression hit and she saw the DEVASTATION around her, the injustices flattening entire neighborhoods while fat cats only grew uptown, she turned her gift with words into a more impactful career.
college era verse -
mj is in her junior or senior year studying journalism at either ESU or GCU (for those who know lol rip). she's heavily involved with both the student newspaper and also the theater department, starring in several shows a year. a known party girl, mj never says no to a night out and rarely ever comes home alone.
top gun verse - ship locked with @brdshwed !
this is the only verse that i actually DID write up; you can find the details here

Now a report from the Georgia Star News confirms that a state investigation has confirmed there’s no proof of any wrongdoing by the school.
So the federal agencies decided to continue their agenda against the Christian organization anyway.
The report revealed a review from the state auditor, through the Arizona State Approving Agency, found that risks identified by Biden’s allegations “could not be substantiated, which means the private nonprofit’s students can still use GI bill funding to pay tuition.”
The report said University President Brian Mueller told KSTAR, “They said, ‘Zero findings. Not a single one. Not one.'”
School spokesman Bob Romantic said in an interview with The College Fix that the audit covered all three allegations charged by the Biden regulators.
But he said the school still is being “targeted” by “systemic attacks … against GCU that we believe are retaliation for filing our lawsuit against the DOE.”
The school sued after the Department of Education brought out a list of its complaints and announced that $37.7 million fine.
Then the FTC sued, claiming telemarketing and marketing violations, concerns that now have been addressed by the state investigation.
Mueller suggested Biden is “maliciously targeting” the school, the report explained.

Grand Canyon University
I feel like GCU is like a family, family does not have to be blood but can be those even not related to you. Family should be people who cheer you on, tell you they are proud of you and be there even when things feel complicated. I was unsure of my purpose or if I even had one not sure where life would take me. The word counselor kept echoing like a song on repeat so as I was already looking at schools I kept going back to GCU and I didn't expect to find what felt like a home. Although I am an online student I never expected to get random calls just to tell me good job. Richard Williams is one of those wonderful faculty working for GCU along with my student services counselor who is beyond helpful she is wonderful Markita is like a godsend. And most of my teachers with prayer forums and being there even if you just need someone to talk to they will be an ear to listen. Also teachers leaving positive feedback telling you they are proud of you or even great job those things even if they seem like little things mean the most and have encouraged me to keep going and work hard to achieve good grades. I feel like with GCU I not only found my purpose when I didn't believe there was hope for any future for me but I found kindness, compassion and people who believe in me when no one else seems to care. I've never really had people in my life tell me they are proud of me in my grandma's last few years of life we talked more than we ever had and in that time she told me her famous words she always told me that I can do anything I set my mind to even if I didn't believe it myself. She believed in me even when I didn't and in my writing but I have always blogged, written stories, poems and always put them free hoping to help or inspire someone to know or feel less alone. So I set out on my journey with GCU to become a counselor one of my aunts even told me how proud my grandmother would be. I never really had anyone who I felt really cared about me growing up as one aunt even told me to end my life at only 14 years old I carried that with me for so many years and never forgot how cruel she has been toward me even in my adult life, knowing people can do that to others is heartbreaking to make someone feel so low that they are not worth anything. Well I learned to cut ties and not put my heart, time and effort into those who just want to step on it. As a counselor I hope to show those struggling in any kind of addiction that it is not who they are, take off the labels because their life has meaning and purpose, just as my professors believe I can do something good I want to show those struggling that they to have meaning, they are not alone and that I believe in them even when they forget to believe in themselves. Because just as GCU believed in purpose I took believe everyone's life has meaning and the potential to achieve great things and want to encourage others to not give up on their purpose but to keep walking in faith. God didn't lead you here to leave you here.

FTC Sues Grand Canyon University Over Deceptive Practices
Tumblr media
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has taken legal action against Grand Canyon University (GCU), filing a lawsuit in federal court against the institution, its marketer Grand Canyon Education, Inc., and CEO Brian Mueller. The suit alleges deceptive advertising and illegal telemarketing practices.
Deceptive Advertising Allegations
The FTC’s complaint contends that the Arizona-based university misled prospective doctoral students about the duration of its accelerated program. It further accuses GCU of presenting itself as a nonprofit institution, despite being for-profit, and unlawfully contacting prospective students who requested not to be contacted after submitting their information on the school’s website.
Samuel Levine, director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “Grand Canyon University deceived students by holding itself out as a non-profit institution and misrepresenting the costs and number of courses required to earn doctoral degrees.”
Legal Action and Alleged Violations
The complaint, invoking violations of the FTC Act and Telemarketing Sale Rules, seeks compensation for consumers affected by these alleged infractions. The FTC is pressing the U.S. District Court in Arizona to mandate restitution for consumers and to bar the university from committing further violations.
GCU’s Response and Previous Actions
In response to the lawsuit, GCU did not immediately provide a comment. However, Mueller previously highlighted his belief that the Biden administration had orchestrated a concerted assault on the university through various federal agencies.
The Department of Education (DOE) also imposed a hefty fine of $37.7 million on Grand Canyon University, alleging the institution had provided misleading information regarding the costs of its doctoral programs to thousands of former and current students. The DOE asserted that GCU had falsely advertised lower costs, resulting in approximately 98% of students paying more than the advertised expenses.
GCU’s Stand and Future Plans
Mueller, contesting the federal investigations, tied them to the DOE’s rejection of GCU’s bid to transition into a nonprofit entity in 2018. He pledged GCU’s intention to appeal the DOE’s substantial fine, asserting the university’s commitment to student transparency and denial of any deceptive practices.
Legal Battles and the University’s Stand
The escalating legal confrontations between regulatory bodies and Grand Canyon University underscore the complexity surrounding the allegations of deceptive practices and misrepresentation. As the legal battles unfold, GCU remains resolute in its stance against the accusations, signaling an intent to challenge the imposed penalties and maintain its reputation as an educational institution committed to ethical practices.
