Seeing some posts/fanart with "let the gays run away together!" that include Crowley alongside OFMD and other shows and... it rubs me the wrong way, honestly. I feel like it is saying Aziraphale should have run away with Crowley and that just... puts an emphasis on their relationship like its the most important part of the story. Like them running away would be the happy ending. When Crowley asks Aziraphale to run away with him, he's panicking. The end of the world is in hours, they've lost the Antichrist, Hell knows he fucked up (and Satan has promised him personal, eternal torture)... he basically sees no way out besides running for their lives and hoping that Heaven and Hell are too busy killing each other to notice them missing. And Aziraphale wants to go. You see on his face how badly he wants to go. But he's still clinging to the last, desperate hope that he can talk to God and stop the War. He's an angel, he has faith. He still wants to avoid the whole mess-- he doesn't just want to save themselves, he wants to save Earth and everything on it. So he tells Crowley no, and you see how it hurts him to do it. He can't let himself run away. He has to try. And the thing is, Aziraphale was right. No, he didn't get in touch with God. But his encounters with the Metatron and the Archangels are what finally push him to see that Heaven is just as bad as Hell. That they really are okay with destroying the planet and all of humanity. That if he wants to stop Armaggeddon, he (and Crowley) have to do it themselves. They get their happy ending, because Aziraphale was determined to stay and try until the very last. Because they didn't run away to be alive and miserable on an empty rock orbiting Alpha Centauri. Because Madam Tracy wouldn't let Aziraphale shoot Adam. Because Shadwell discorporated Aziraphale. Because all of them, in their own way, thought it was hopeless but stood up and decided to try anyway. And they won.

god I love reading good omens au fics. bc here’s the thing - aziraphale and crowley are immortal. they’ve seen countless civilizations rise and fall. they don’t have any close friends other than each other - they know some humans in an acquaintance-like way, but i mean. by necessity they don’t have a lot of connections on earth, bc then people will notice when they don’t age.
but in an AU where they’re meeting each other for the first time, they need other people to interact with and talk to about each other. So people generally go one of two routes (or occasionally both)
have other angels/demons be coworkers/family members/friends. this works well if they keep the relationship Strained like it is in canon, but it also means sometimes they’re really buddy-buddy with people who have tried to kill them, which is hilarious.
Anathema is suddenly incredibly important. other humans are usually included, generally Newt, Madame Tracy, and Adam, but because Anathema is the coolest and most fan-favorite of the human characters in the book and show, she always gets a starring role
the reason this is funny is because in canon their relationship is thus
From Anathema’s POV
two gay men hit her with a car (the headlights were off even though it was the middle of the night - how the fuck were they not crashing into things?)
temporarily pimped out her bike w/ new gears and a bike pump
drove her home
“stole” her book
showed up at the end of the world ready to fight satan
rules-lawyered another angel(?) and demon(?) into not declaring war on earth (???)
gave her her book back
drove away in a jeep
From Aziraphale & Crowley’s POV
random human biking in the dark in the forest crashes into them
after dropping her off, Aziraphale discovers that she left an ancient, impossible to find book of prophecy that is the holy grail for antique book-collectors everywhere, and specifically fits his special interest in books of prophecy.
he promptly disappears into it for multiple days. Crowley has no idea why, in neither the book nor the series does Aziraphale keep him updated on this.
the next interaction Crowley has with the book is digging it out of the ashes of the burned-down bookshop seconds after realizing that his only constant friend for 6000 years is dead and will not return.
in the book, Crowley immediately takes the book, reads through Aziraphale’s notes, and heads off to Tadfield. in the series it isn’t until Aziraphale appears to him that he realizes the book is of some importance and does the same.
in either scenario, he takes the book with him as he drives through a ring of hellfire, protecting it from the fiery explosion of the Bentley, until on the tarmac at the end of the world, he sees Book Girl and some other random human walk out of the military base, and tosses the book to her, as she accuses him of hitting her with his car (which he did).
the world doesn’t end
Book Girl and her boyfriend(?) leave with the other humans
like. i understand and approve of Anathema getting this sudden promotion (it’s what she deserves) and it does make for some fantastic fics. it’s also simply hilarious to me that she tends to get bumped up to ‘childhood friend’ or even ‘sister’ when its like. you hit me with a car and then were at the apocalypse.

If you hate Homucifer so much, then why are you talking about her anyways?
Because I'm a critic (an amateurish one, but still a critic nonetheless). And being a critic involves me giving opinions on everything, even on what I dislike.
Plus, I don't hate Homucifer as a concept; like, the idea of a Magical Girl willingly becoming a villain sounds so interesting in paper and carries a gigatonic amount of potential for some fresh storytelling!
Usually when a Magical Girl turns to the dark side, she's always brainwashed and/or coherced into doing it, like Sailor Moon's Black Lady and Mistress 9, for example. It always happened against the heroine's will.
But not in Homura's case. She knew what she was doing, so much so that she embraced her title as a villain. And I won't lie, that idea sounds so goddamn interesting on paper! So fresh! So new! The possibilities are endless!
But some people unfortunately have their brains permanently stuck in the 2010's, so they lack the nuance to discuss such a polarizing ending and keep on babying Madame Satan just because she's gay and traumatized, and have reduced her character entirely on the fact that she's gay and traumatized.
Trust me, many of the plot points that happen in OG Madoka have aged like milk. I'm not saying that you shouldn't stop loving the series, no; by all means, keep on doing it! Keep on buying merch, drawing fanarts, writing fanfiction, doing cosplays... it's honestly endearing to see people showing their passion for something!
But sometimes, people should recieve intervention so this passion of theirs doesn't negatively affect their lives; I mean, there are people out there that are SO out of touch with reality, that they simp for IRL SERIAL KILLERS. How fucked up is that?!
Plus, if you want queer rep, you gotta come to the realization that not every queer person has good intentions. You gotta balance the good with the bad and acknowledge it, but NEVER sugarcoat it, or else you'll be reaching into some gross fetishistic territory with it.
Long Story Short: In my honest opinion, Homura's Joker Arc could've been much more interesting to dissect if the annoying stans didn't pavloved me into hating her with their constant cries of "Homura Did Nothing Wrong!"

Good Omens
By Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman
A little note beforehand:
@neil-gaiman has been my favorite author since I read The Graveyard Book as a kid. Reading Good Omens as an adult really made the whole experience feel like it was coming full circle. Twice now, he has inspired my reading hyper-fixation. So, thank you for giving your work to the world.
I finished this book before I started this blog, but I felt it deserves to be here. I almost immediately let my coworker borrow it so I can’t give direct quotes and page numbers.
Onto the review!
⚠️Warning! Contains spoilers for Season One of the show and the book! ⚠️
Overall this book is amazing! There were so many times I found myself smiling like an idiot in the airport reading this story. Reading lines in the book at are used verbatim in the show made me feel like I was in on some little secret. I’m gonna get into more detail, separated by the three storylines.
Adam Young & Them
So in the book, there is a long running joke that Elvis Presley isn’t dead and works at a little burger joint in Des Moines. Death even says during his run in the trivia game that he never touched Elvis. I found this absolutely hilarious and sometimes wished the line was in the show. It made me kinda happy to read about a fat Elvis just lovin’ life flippin’ burgers.
Now Greasy Johnson isn’t in the show at all. He’s apparently the extra baby from the Chattering Order that was adopted (Which was kinda relieving). So in the book Johnson is the leader of the rival gang of children to The Them. I loved this motif in the book, comparing the childhood scuffles between the two groups of kids to the war of heaven and hell. It gave a level of pettiness to the armageddon debacle. Having Adam explain to his friends the never ending struggle between Them and Greasy Johnson in equivalence to the literal world-ending war that is heaven and hell was kinda brilliant. I understand this part of the story not being in the show, but at the same time I think the added complexity of the rival gang would’ve been interesting to see on screen.
Ok in the book, we get a lot more of Dog’s thoughts, and they’re kinda adorable. Dog just loves being a dog! And I love reading about it. By the time armageddon is at their doorstep, he doesn’t want it either. Dog’s whole journey kinda added this extra layer of charm to the story.
The Witchfinder & The Witch
I love the descriptions for this storyline. Pulsfier and Anathema have such wonderful and dare I say accurate descriptions of their characters in the book. If you read this book in 1990 when it came out, you could picture these two perfectly.
During the scene where Anathema meets Crowley and Aziraphale via car crash Anathema has the best thought. She’s at fist kinda wary of these two strange men in the dark, but when Crowley calls Aziraphale “angel” she’s immediately like “oh! They’re gay!🏳️‍🌈”. Of course this book did come out in the 90’s so she didn’t say that explicitly.
An added difference between the show and the book that was for the better, was changing Madam Tracy’s spirit guide. In the book her spirit guide is Geronimo, an indigenous American man. I definitely think Geronimo was written with some stereotypes but I can’t comment too much on that. Colleen (the spirit guide in Good Omens the show), was definitely a better addition for the series.
Crowley & Aziraphale
They’re so in love, and no one can tell me otherwise. Just reading it without the context of the show, they so love each other.
In the show, we get a scene of Crowley pushing Aziraphale into a wall at the old Satanic Nunnery. That little moment doesn’t happen in the book.
A lot of the ending in the season was much more bulked out. For example, the series adds the entire Crowley and Aziraphale swapping bodies to trick their respective bosses. I actually love this addition though. This ending made their story arc feel so much more complete.
I think that’s all I’ve got for now! Please recommend more books!

Just a pair of ineffable werewolves out on the town :3 Inspired by this video; Aziraphale is based on an Alaskan Malamute, Crowley is based on the extremely leggy Maned Wolf.

Ok since everybody is extremely excited about pirates at the moment, I want to take a sec to recommend the podcast Campaign: Skyjacks, which is about SKY PIRATES.
It's set in the original world of Speir, where God died about 200 years prior, the stars fell, and the ocean is now extremely haunted. Fortunately people discovered a material called Featherweave which is lighter than air when heated, and allowed for sailing ships to be remade as Skyships.
Did I mention this world also has giant rideable birds? It does, they're awesome.
The story focuses on the crew of the Uhuru, a feared pirate ship under the command of Captain Orimar Vale. Unfortunately, when the story starts, Orimar has been killed while on an away mission. Fortunately (?) the ship's doctor is also a necromancer. So our characters decide to just... raise Orimar as a zombie and Weekend at Bernie's him so the rest of the crew doesn't know! Obviously a foolproof plan.
Our main cast is Travis, a changeling rogue; Gable, a 7ft tall fallen angel; Jonnet, a 14 year old kid with a Destiny and a third eye; and Dref, the doctor/necromancer.
It's a great show and while it can deal with some surprisingly heavy topics there are extensive CWs on episodes. Note that there are consistently a lot of crass/sex jokes as running gags.
If you'd prefer to avoid the heavier themes and dirty jokes, there is a spinoff called Skyjacks: Courier's Call, which follows three teens working on a skyship for the mail service. It's a much lighter series but still full of the same cool fantasy worldbuilding.

Absolutely not surprised the Touch Grass Fanfic post got the #1 spot, it's gotten more notes than I've ever had on anything else. Still kind of annoyed it turned into a whole discourse on lawns, though. It was meant to be a way to share a funny post I saw about taking fanfiction too seriously... and then people took it too seriously, about entirely the wrong topic. Very happy people liked my werewoofs and wing art, though, and hopefully made some new Skyjacks fans!
