This is a book I would like to add to my cookbook library and hope to do so in the future even though living where I do would mean not having access to all of the ingredients that would be more common in the West.

hello, just popping in. haven’t been on much because this is pretty much what my days have consisted of lately. wake up, run or do yoga, go to class, do homework in between said classes, go to work, come home, make dinner, relax with my dude. repeat! (sometimes out of that order)
ah, i know i’ll look back years down the line and reminisce on my student years. and man, i do love being a student and learning, but it’s dang hard. just feeling like the work never ends! especially with deciding to do dietetics and tacking on an extra year of undergrad (and not to mention dietetic internship and masters). i am sooo excited to become a RDN but it feels so far away. i can’t help but see people on social media living their dream lives and i just envy to be in that position where i’m doing my passion every single day!!! but i know this is my current situation and all i can do is embrace it, so i’m making the most of it. here’s to being a student!! (also, i will be able to cheers to this extra soon as a 21 year old hehe) happy studying to all my student pals out there, we got it!

As we gear up for a season of feasting that debuts next week, Kylee Van Horn, RDN with TAC Fitness and Wellness Center, helpfully breaks down diet myths and facts, just in time for turkey. Kylee tells us that while you don’t have to all together give up the foods that taste good, you do have to think about what is good for you. With some moderation and a healthy approach to your diet, you can take a well-deserved seat at the Thanksgiving table this year.

Myth: Gluten free is a healthier way of eating Fact:  For the large majority of the population, gluten is perfectly fine and avoiding will not offer any health benefits. In fact, you may wind up not getting all the vitamins and minerals you need! Gluten itself is a set of proteins that is found in grains, specifically wheat, barley, rye, triticale, and oats.  Only a small percentage of people have true celiac disease, which is an autoimmune reaction to gluten.  Others may have something called non-celiac gluten sensitivity, and eliminating gluten from their diet makes them feel better.
Myth: Eating at Night will Make You Fat Fact: There is no conclusive evidence that eating at night will cause weight gain. However, people that eat very close to bedtime tend to overeat high calorie foods, often resulting in indigestion and an interrupted sleep pattern.  
Myth: To lose weight, you have to give up all your favorite foods Fact:  This is simply untrue.  You can have all your favorite foods, but in smaller portions. Restriction or elimination of foods you enjoy can set you up for binge eating those foods, and development of unhealthy eating behaviors in the future.  
Myth: Grains like bread and pasta are fattening and you have to remove them to lose weight. Fact: Grains themselves are not fattening or unhealthy, though choosing whole grains over refined grains can give you more nutrients and fiber that will keep you fuller.  Some good sources of whole grains include: whole wheat products, brown rice, and oatmeal.
