Hello, love! I hope you’re doing well❤️
You know I love the way you express yourself when it comes to talk about music. It’s always so satisfying to read how passionate you are for the bands and songs you love so I wanted to ask you a few questions.
I’d like to name this section…Let’s talk about The Who!! (I’m sorry, I’m sorry HAHAHA) All right, let’s get started with the questions:
- How did you find out about The Who? What made you fall in love with the band?
- What’s your favourite album? And your favourite song?
- Have you seen all of their movies? (Tommy, Quadrophenia, The kids are alright…) What are your thoughts on their movies? (I haven’t seen any of them but I’m looking forward to seeing Tommy cause it’s my favourite The Who album)
- Why is Keith Moon your favourite? (I know you love drummers😏 but I’d like to know what makes you love Keith so much)
- Some people like to compare The Who with Led Zeppelin to the point they say The Who is way much better than Led Zeppelin. I’ve heard they say that Who’s Next is better than Led Zeppelin IV. I think they’re both good bands with great musicians but I don’t think I’ve heard The Who enough to form a solid opinion on who’s the better band so I’d like to know your opinion since you listen to both bands.
- And for the last question: If you could go back in time, which The Who concert would you like to attend and why.
If you want to add some more information about them such as fun facts or things you’ve recently discovered/learnt about them, please do it.😂 Thank you so much for taking your time answering my silly questions. I’m getting my revenge for pushing me into Def Leppard (Just Kidding, I love you Mel❤️)
Hello! I'm kinda fine, thank you <3
Uuuu, I like the sound of that! Let's start then, shall we? :3 I'll tag you additionally if something breaks @jimmysdragonsuit13
How did you find out about The Who? What made you fall in love with the band?
How did I find out about them…Oh God, we gotta go back toooooooooooo… 2008 actually. Tiny me walked into the living room when mom was watching CSI: Las Vegas and you know. I knew mom loved watching tv series with murders and what not so I stood in the hall, looking at the tv, curiously and then came the intro, short version of "Who Are You". I heard them for the first time that evening and tiny me was blown away. Mom eventually noticed me, because I walked in the living room and asked her if I can watch with her, silently hoping this intro will play again and I was blown away again by the instrumental at the very end.
I've watched all three series with her - I actually need to give them a good watch sometime soon - and I know one day I've asked her about the intros. She didn't remember the band's name, but all she told me was this: "Those songs are long and kind of weird. This band was weird, let's begin with this. Crazy, destroying everything, but how they were called again?" and she didn't recalled sadly and I wasn't interested to the point of searching by myself - mind you, I was at primary school, had it really stressful, was bullied, searching for a band and get into them, especially if they were old was the last thing on my mind back then. So I gave it up, just enjoying the intros.
Now, let's skip to me being in high school. I think to 2016, it was probably this year that I started get into music with mom's and dad's help mostly, but also the guy I really liked. This was my Metallica phase, strongest one, and the second one out of three, and Japanese music phase, but anyway. I know that while mom searched for music to download we stumbled upon The Who - I remember the fragment which was played and it was that moment from the tv program, where Keith blew up his drum kit. It was short, so I didn't get to listen to them well, but mom somehow recalled my question about CSI intros and she told me, it was them XD But she cut my curiosity short by saying that they aren't very good, dad agreeing with her. I was very susceptible to their opinions back then so I gave up on them again.
Just to rediscover them in the last year at May or June. TV Station randomly played "My Generation" and while dad was complaining - he hates them - I just listened. First time without any breaks and like, I was "Okay, they're fine" for most part. Enter the drumming instrumental break tho and from "Okay, they're fine" I just sat there, listening, saying to myself: "THAT guy is GOOD", but I couldn't see him properly back then. Skip to July, when I started using Instagram again, and the app was like: "You know? You forgot about someone" showing me Keith Moon. It was this photo:
Tumblr media
So the usual, totally wasted Moon <3 But you know, I didn't connect that he was the guy I considered this good. Skip ahead a few weeks and tumblr showed me gifs with him - and I think it was YOU who reblogged this gifset - when he was totally elegant and I was like: "That's… That's Moon?!" reading in the tags what band he was in. And like from this day I just wanted to find an opportunity to listen to The Who, but dad came in with "I will show you Deep Purple now" and I skipped a few chances on getting "Who's Next" album at the record store, actually feeling that I should get it, but I somehow didn't for some weird reason.
I was fucking hesitant. Like, I remember finding this album, staring at the cover, thinking to myself: "That's Moon's band, the one he was in…" and you know, I almost reached for it, but I didn't for some reason - later regretting it big time, but like, skip a little bit more (this is a span of a MONTH I think) and Spotify randomly played "Love Ain't For Keeping" from this very album, actually throwing me so off guard, because I always heard their more chaotic songs and this one just entered, with the drumming, the good guitar, Roger started singing, the lyrics flowed SO WELL. I was blown away for the fourth time in my life by them XD
And I think that I only waited two days to listen to the entire album and once I did, fifth time being blown away has to enter the stage. With this, we can go to the second question of this part of the "Let’s talk about The Who!!" (I love the name!).
So, what made me fall in love with the band. …I gotta start from this… The thing that made me blink and stare at the tv when I was 10, literally hypnotized, the one that made me actually consider giving them a try is the fucking drumming! I MEAN, DID YOU FUCKING HEARD THAT?! I know you did, that was rhetorical XD Just the way Keith plays it's like… It's the ideal way of playing drums to me. There's literally nothing better for me than to hear the beating on the double bass drums from him, not to mention the constant fills, the way he just seems to use every single drum, even if his drum kit looked like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This guy was all over his instrument, actually making it sound like a freaking lead one, and you can't tell me, nobody can't tell me that The Who had other lead instrument than the drums. I mean, you only have to compare one song to 1978 and any other one after that year. I will never say that Kenney or Starkey are bad drummers, far from that, but the fucking emptiness in later songs after 1978 is unbearable for me. And not like I listened to only one song and said: "Nope, I'm sticking to the albums to 1978" and that's that, no. I actually listened to a few where Kenney played on the compilation album I got for myself and I just couldn't stand the shift. I can't shake the feeling that the songs after 1978 are a shell of what they could be, so for my own sanity I decided to stick to the albums to the 1978 and that's that and I'm happy. I'm a really happy lil Pole now <3
Second reason would be the lyrics. And now get this, I'm never, almost never paying attention to lyrics, especially when I listen to a song for the first time, but like… Pete is a genius at lyrics. Probably the most free to interpretations pieces of poetry/lyrics I have ever seen. It happened a few times that the meaning that Pete wanted to get through the lyrics was totally different to how I felt about the song, but like if both interpretations work for both sides, it's good. This is how you actually write good poetry and I tend to think of The Who's lyrics like that. Taking a fragment of "Who Are You" as an example, which is probably my most favorite fragment of any lyrics Pete wrote:
I know there's a place you walked Where love falls from the trees My heart is like a broken cup I only feel right on my knees
I spit out like a sewer hole Yet still receive your kiss How can I measure up to anyone now After such a love as this?
Such tiny details in lyrics, lovely ones are really scattered everywhere in the songs and they get me every time. "Love Is Coming Down" is entirely like this, the instrumental actually giving more than the lyrics, they being only as another instrument, at least I feel about them like that. Which also brings us to third reason and that being Roger's vocals.
I freaking love his voice. The way he can express emotions is like nothing else I heard before - not saying that Robert Plant is in any way worse, he isn't, but like their screams of emotions can't be compared. "Love Reign O'er Me" settled the bar too high for me, sorry Robert! But like, Roger also has that specific tone of voice that gets to me. I can't explain what is it, but it's just good to listen to you know - even when he speaks, it's just making me a bit tingly inside - also his laugh is adorable, not to mention his smile!
And like, John Entwistle can't be listed as fourth reason, but I actually like his playing, like a lot and I can't skip on him. I like all of them, I really can't skip on John XD He has such a nice style of bass playing and I'm definitely not a fan of this instrument XD John is such a big exception as Paul McCartney is. Making me like bass in songs is almost impossible, so this guy literally achieved the impossible.
All of THAT, would sum up the answer for your first two questions. Now, let's move to the next ones, shall we? :3
What’s your favourite album? And your favourite song?
Favorite album would be "Quadrophenia" and I doubt that will change, even if I finally listen to "The Who Sell Out". "Quadrophenia" is so much deeper than "Tommy", at least for me. You know, it's that kind of album that when I've listened to it for the first time, I knew it was my favorite from the get go, the one that spoke to me right away. It actually carries a somehow heavy story that can't be shown in any other way than through music.
Everything is put perfectly, from the first sounds of sea to the last sounds of insane drumming at the very end, but let me just state why I feel like that towards this album. There are literally no skips on this one for me, each song is unique, but it only makes sense if you listen to it with the rest. It's also the case where the lyrics got my attention. I have a weird case of not listening to lyrics, but here, when I've listened to it for the first time, I had to check out the lyrics to "Cut My Hair" because something just brought my attention to it. One listen was for the music, second listen for the lyrics and I got the grasp of the story that this one tries to tell, even seeing two acts in this one. I will part the album in two while talking about songs if you don't mind <3 First half being from "I Am The Sea" to "I've Had Enough" and second beginning from "5:15" and ending at "Love Reign O'er Me".
The shift that happens between "The Dirty Jobs" to "I've Had Enough", followed by the masterpiece that is "5:15" - the first song I've heard from this album, fun fact - which gives an amazing feel of traveling far away from everyone, just wanting to disappear is insanely good. I usually stick to the second part of the album, because like the first half is focused on showing Jimmy's (the poor sod that is the main protagonist of this story) everyday life, the second shows him actually losing everything bit by bit - I'm talking about this album for the third time, it should be my bachelor degree by now XD - and that is what makes this album shine for me.
Let me just sum up the songs of the second half real quick - mind you that I didn't read the lyrics and this is my interpretation from what I feel from the music, heard from lyrics, got emotionally and saw in the movie:
5:15 - a journey by a train to nowhere, just far away from the everyday routine after losing everything, literally everything (this is so well shown in the movie!)
Sea and Sand - actual feeling that can be described as calm after the storm, just calm loneliness, the urge to disappear from life, from existence
Drowned - wanting to come back to the sea, suicide attempt, failed, but it's still there, feeling of helplessness
Bell Boy - meeting the idol that is not who Jimmy imagined to be, feel of betrayal, the biggest one (you can even say that Jimmy's world crumbled at this point)
Doctor Jimmy - insanity, all of the personalities coming out, one or two always triggered after alcohol or drugs, the feeling of not caring about anything and anyone even about himself
The Rock - the grand final, giving up on life, struggling before doing so, regret of being born, everything that happened is just too much and here is the second suicide attempt
Love Reign O'er Me - an emotional ballad that sums up the feeling of the entire story, it doesn't give a conclusion, the conclusion if Jimmy died, riding off the cliff or not is up to you (I usually go with the conclusion that Jimmy drowned, but his body was washed ashore on an abandoned island and now his soul is stuck there, as he's too troubled to go to the afterlife, maybe meeting similar soul there, but like that is the ending I'm usually going with).
All of that, all of the second half of the album is the best piece of music I have ever heard. Not only the story but musically it's just… As a whole it's probably the best album of the 70s for me, but also, I think I kind of feel sorry for the poor sod that is named Jimmy, connecting to his "trying to fit in the world" a bit too personally. Like, seeing/hearing his struggle, his hesitation, just trying to find a place for himself in the world that certainly "is not for him" just got to me. Additionally there comes the open ending and like my conclusion is one of the many you can come up with really. And there's also the repeated theme that plays throughout the entire album, the main theme of Quadrophenia, it's just so good to listen to. Sad, melancholic with a bit of hope/calling for help. As of now, you should know I love sadness in music, so that was a given I would be attached to this album.
But now, going to my favorite song. I certainly have a lot, like: "My Generation", "A Legal Matter", "The Ox", "Cobwebs and Strange", "Happy Jack" (drumming, OMG, DRUMMING IN THIS ONE), "Overture", "1921", "Eyesight of the Blind (The Hawker)", "Underture", "Pinball Wizard", "Tommy's Holiday Camp", "We're Not Gonna Take It", "Love Ain't For Keeping", "The Song Is Over", "Getting In Tune", whole "Quadrophenia", "Slip Kid", "However Much I Booze", "Squeeze Box", "Trick Of The Light", "Love Is Coming Down", "Who Are You", BUT there is one that isn't listed here and was mentioned up above.
And that, my dear friend, is "Bell Boy". There are three reasons for that. First reason and the main one is the fact that Keith Moon is singing in this one. This is literally all it took to make me love this song and it happened immediately - just imagine me listening to this one for the first time, suddenly hearing Keith, I was NEVER this happy before XD Second being the opening of the song. It begins with Keith's drumming, what can I want more? XD Third reason, this song is absolutely catchy. I have no other reasons, they are pretty simple, but like, I can't help but love this song! Plus there's this part of the lyrics where Keith sings - with a very pretty voice of his:
Some nights I still sleep on the beach Remember when stars were in reach Then I wander in early to work Spend my day licking boots for my perks
And I kind of tend to imagine him sitting on that beach at night, looking at stars, everything silent, only the sound of sea heard. …Just a calm image that is appearing in my mind each time I hear him start singing this verse, but that is a detail. Moving on!
Have you seen all of their movies? (Tommy, Quadrophenia, The Kids are alright...) What are your thought on their movies? (I haven't seen any of them but I'm looking forward to seeing Tommy cause it's my favourite The Who Album)
Not at all, but I saw "Tommy" and "Quadrophenia". I'm slowly getting to watch "The Kids Are Alright", but I'm a bit hesitant about this one. Dunno why, I just am - something is telling me to wait with it XD
My general thought about those two is that they are okay, like really okay, but like, they could be better, especially "Quadrophenia" and so I will go with this one first!
So, as you know it's my favorite album and I have to say that the movie shows the entire plot very well. It's rough, actually being very similar to the photos that were done for this album specifically and it gives away the vibe of 1965 (I think) very damn well, comparing it to the photos. Actors are okay - the one who plays Jimmy stole my heart, I can't help but have a crush on this poor sod, all the reasons you've already read, so I won't repeat myself, but I do have a few things that itches me about this movie.
The order of the songs and that some of them were cut out of it. Don't get me wrong, I know there had to be changes made, some songs are replaced by the actual acting and that's cool, but mixing the order of the songs is totally different. I'm talking specifically about the moment they've played "Love Reign O'er Me". It threw me so off guard at first, it was just not sitting well with me. This is a freaking conclusion song and they threw it right before "Bell Boy" started to play, before the scene where Jimmy sees his idol working at a hotel as a bell boy. The song playing in the background saved me from a rant when I was watching it with a friend, but ya know, it was just the worst moment to play it, like come the fuck on XD
And I have a very big BUT to Sting being in this movie. Like, this guy is a brick, he can't fucking act, he has a poker face the entire freaking time, like move a muscle on your face! XD But there also was that motif in the album that each band member had his song, "Bell Boy" being Keith's song, making the character Ace Face his character and Sting does not do well in that character. I mean, after listening to the album, knowing about it, knowing how Keith was it just doesn't add up at all. It would probably, or most definitely, look different if Keith was still alive at that time, because Pete clearly stated in one interview (if I remember correctly) that there were plans in 1978 to make the "Quadrophenia" movie and for all members of the band to be in this one, so I think Keith would automatically play as Ace Face - just like it happened with Uncle Ernie in "Tommy", BUT THAT LATER - and the interpretation of the character would be accurate with the source material. This is what ticks me off personally a little bit, but like I have no right to blame anyone and I won't.
Overall the entire movie could be much worse, I'm kind of happy with what I saw. So now… Moving to "Tommy"…
I'll be honest with you, I've watched the movie first, then listened to the original album and while I like the original score much more, I can't say a bad word about the musical. It's sometimes weird, fucked up, scenes are very long, they made me uncomfortable due to the fact how Tommy is treated - I literally feel so sorry for him the entire time, I almost hate every character in this one - besides two, Tommy and one more, but that later, and God, how happy I was at the very end! This musical makes a nice loop actually and I won't spoil it for you, but like, remember the opening scene on a mountain when you'll watch it, just remember it <3
Some songs are changed, like very changed, I love some changes, I hate some, but like, all of them fit the artists in the musical, so that's good. I don't have to like everything, but like this musical did something. I actually told myself at the beginning of the last year when I've dropped out of anime and all the fictional worlds for good that I won't fall for a fictional character. I meant it only for animated guys, the ones in games - you know, a bunch of lines/pixels - but I didn't think about actors and characters they are playing. I started watching movies very recently, actually enjoying them more and more and this movie, this freaking musical made me break the promise. Uncle fucking Ernie stepped into my life and I was a goner! LET ME EXPLAIN!
I knew, I was aware that Keith plays in this movie. My freaking bestie send me some gifs of him from this musical on Discord and even then I was like "This is probably from "Tommy", I bet my ass it is" and I was right. I know what character Uncle Ernie is, but like my bestie said "You always liked the worst, it doesn't surprise me anymore" and that's kind of typical for me. But this had five stages actually.
First being the scene where he showed up for the first time in that small window of his. I leaned in the direction of the tv, this scene was pretty dark and it was a bright afternoon and I was like: "That's Keith, isn't it?" not being sure 100%, but I was excited. Second, then came the scene where "Fiddle About" is playing. And I swear it to you, I fucking swear it to you, I've never was laughing and feeling embarrassed to the point of blushing and curling on my bed ever in my entire life. Not gonna spoil this beauty, but this musical and Uncle Ernie destroyed the word "fiddle" for me XD Third being that one tiny scene where Tommy is famous already and Uncle Ernie has a cameo there. He is somehow changed, the outfit and general look, vibe totally the same, creepy older guy, but like… The fact that I thought: "Oh… You look good…" should be a big red flag for me, but I carried on. Bring in the fourth stage where "Tommy's Holiday Camp" plays. Uncle Ernie is totally changed in this one, probably trying to look friendly and that made me say out loud: "Oh fuck, now you look hot" and that just started a wave of things. Fifth stage being a few days after the movie, having a conversation with myself that went like this: "You remember Tommy, right?" "Yep" "Remember Uncle Ernie?" "How could I forget?" "You would let him fuck you, wouldn't you?" "…" "…" "Yes…" And that brought up this post, which is still a big state of my mind, ESPECIALLY during horny days and it also brought up a big au where I've made a self-insert in this musical, went for a uncle-niece trope and actually worked on it so hard to make everything work as I wanted, that I'm proud of this personal fuckery I've made. In conclusion, I love this fucker and that's that <3 (Hmhm, I will watch "Tommy" at my horny days with friends, this will end well)
Also, a fun fact! I vaguely remember that I've watched this movie when I was tiny, I could be 3 back then, but I remember two scenes from it. The one when it's shown how Nora is disgusted by Tommy when he's already famous and she's sitting in that white house of theirs, all rich. I remember this scene because it's just turns weirder and weirder, but no spoilers for you ;3 And the one where "Tommy's Holiday Camp" starts, Keith as Uncle Ernie having his second 5 seconds of glory. Just a random fact <3
Why is Keith Moon your favourite? (I know you love drummers😏 but I’d like to know what makes you love Keith so much)
…Oh My God, this will get emotional…
Okay, first of all! Keith is the guy who started my obsession with drumming. He set the ideal type of drumming style that I love, with those short intros to CSI. Sure, I could forget about him in those longer breaks between encountering The Who once in a while, but unconsciously I always knew what I was searching in drumming. That would actually explain why I was always bored when I heard the drums going in one rhythm, without any changes in songs. I just had a type, thanks to who I've discovered in the last year.
Second would be his personality. I still don't know a lot about him - still hunting for a book about him! - but from what I know, knowing what flaws he had, how he acted around people, just the tiny details I could catch here and there, watching documentaries, especially that one that made me hysterical at the very end… I don't know, I just got so attached to him in such a short span that it's insane. One week I was cautious about him, knowing how much he drunk, how much drugs he took. Second week I started getting attached, just to fall in love with him in the third week. Sure, that one documentary had a lot to do with it - it was talking mainly about his last day of life and talking about his life in short, but what was okay was the fact that his girlfriend was in it, talking about him as well - and you know, I learned a lot at that day, the fact how he died bringing the previously mentioned hysteria and I just… It was the day that started the rest of the reasons of why I like him so much. It just kicked everything in.
So third reason that appeared at the same day would be the fact that I saw a mirror image of my dad in him. And I'm not joking here. Mostly in the behavior and addictions. My dad's a tame version of Moon in those two aspects, except drugs luckily, but like, seeing how Keith died and knowing damn well that he and my dad had the same drinking addiction and knowing how bad it was with dad - alcohol was slowly killing him, it was slowly destroying my family - I saw in that moment that if not one accident that happened and if not my mom's constant fight for dad to stop drinking, my dad would end the fucking same as Keith. And like, I think my mind made that connection, caused a hysteria, understood the tragedy and I think I started to feel sorry for Keith to the point of the insanity that is now.
Which also brings us to the fact that I started seeing a handsome guy in him. No matter the age, I just see a handsome, exactly my type of a guy. And like I know I sound insane, but for the entire life I felt like I was searching for something. This feeling only getting stronger two years ago when I got interested in music, started listening to older bands and you know. I've jumped from The Doors to The Beatles, from The Beatles to Led Zeppelin, from Led Zeppelin to Deep Purple just to jump from Deep Purple to The Who, this day making the feeling of searching disappear. Like, I've found Keith, that's all I apparently wanted. Keith is a special guy to me and I can't help it but love him to the point that I decided if I don't have a boyfriend now, he'll get the entire love I can offer, even if it's only in form of fics or scenarios in my head.
And like, something else happened as well. I sometimes have strange dreams where I can see the dead ones and I had one like that with Keith. I can't tell you what exactly happened there, because I don't remember, but like, one fragment remains: I was sitting with him on a white floor (it's always a white space) across in close proximity. We were talking about something, dunno what, but Keith was so happy. He was actually beaming with happiness, making me laugh with something he said and from here I only know that he got closer to me, but what did he do? I have no idea, yet I felt tingly all over my body the entire day. I feel tingly when I think back to that dream, but like, that happiness of his was so real. And this dream happened a day after I heard "Love Ain't For Keeping", day before I've listened to "Who's Next". And funny thing, after I listened to the album, I heard in my mind: "Finally back at home". Just a thought crossing my mind randomly. I can't explain that as well.
But the attachment grew to the point of how it is now. I don't know, I just feel like at home with him around. Even if he's just in the music, he's still around and even the thought of that brings a smile on my face. Also a lot, and I mean A LOT of The Who's lyrics makes me think about him, bringing in the slight urge of taking care of him. "Love Is Coming Down" is probably the best example for that, but like the scattered fragments of beautiful poetry I've mentioned earlier… I was talking about the fragments that always makes me think of him. And sure, yeah, I ship myself with him just for fun, to make most of my loneliness go away, but like I do feel a strong connection to him. I don't know if it's a soulmate thing, if it's attachment, if it's just a simple human sympathy or if it's just a woman's lonely heart going insane, because it thinks that it found the second half, but like… Keith is special for me for all of those reasons and I think I could find many more, but those are the most important ones.
I feel like a piece of me that should be in the place finally got in and I'm happy with that <3
Some people like to compare The Who with Led Zeppelin to the point they say The Who is way much better than Led Zeppelin. I’ve heard they say that Who’s Next is better than Led Zeppelin IV. I think they’re both good bands with great musicians but I don’t think I’ve heard The Who enough to form a solid opinion on who’s the better band so I’d like to know your opinion since you listen to both bands.
Oh God, I've never compared them. I mean, okay, I did two times. Once because I wanted to decide who's got his ass on the first place of favorite drummers - this was a hell! - and second while answering on one of your questions, but now that I think about it…
It's still difficult to choose, because both are great bands and their style is completely different in everything: bass, drums, lyrics, vocals, guitar, everything. And I know that people love to compare, I don't do that, unless I have to decide on the ranking, but that's like personal thing.
I would say who is better depends on the music taste, because some will love The Who, hate Led Zeppelin and the other way around (my dad hates The Who, loves Led Zeppelin) and honestly if I was asked about that, like I am now, I would have to compare them depending on my taste, so I would have to do the same as I did a few months ago to make it clear who's on the first place on my long long LONG list of drummers. Album comparison doesn't make sense for me, because you can clearly hear that "Led Zeppelin IV" has a totally different vibe than "Who's Next", but then it's also a matter of music taste and if there's no skips on album.
But if it comes to solely my opinion, so coming back to the struggle on who's better, John Bonham or Keith Moon, I'm gonna say that Keith is slightly better than John and that makes The Who automatically be better than Led Zeppelin for me. But again, slightly. It's such a small difference that they could be both on the first place if I didn't want a clear answer.
Then again, it's a funny situation, the comparison of drummers. I remember saying at August that if I ever find a better drummer than John Bonham that'll be a miracle. I shouldn't have said that, you know? XD
And for the last question: If you could go back in time, which The Who concert would you like to attend and why
Ack, fuck, I only watched two of them XD But there are two, most definitely!
The one from Charlton from 1974, the last one I've watched and the second. It was a good concert really, Keith was incredible - and they played "Bell Boy", I would pay everything to be there and hear him sing!
And the one concert I didn't watch and just had to search where it was and what year it was, it's the one from Kilburn from 1977. I only saw one fragment of it, one song, but like, if Keith was acting like a bastard who wanted to piss everyone off the entire time, sign me the fuck up! Plus, it's the concert where he wears this costume - it's mainly purple and white, all sparkly!

I love it! I even specifically searched for this photo to get it on my facebook header - yes, Moonie is even there! - because I wanted this specific Keith, from this specific time and in this specific outfit! I just love him in this one. Fuck I need to watch this concert one day XD
And please, the only thing I've recently discovered was a fragment of an interview, when Keith was talking about how he destroyed every room below his one in a hotel by making the waterbed break, water destroying the floors and ceilings while he was sitting on in his chair, looking like: "Well, that happened" as if he didn't expect it would break XD I love this idiot so much, I can't fucking express it properly XD Oh come on, they weren't silly, I had a blast with them! Oh, your revenge you say… Well then mischievous grin Expect to receive something soonish ;3 (Love you too, take care! <3)

my server vs netflix
Long post for a few mutuals who asked about this 🏴‍☠️
Netflix (according to the geeks on server forums -- so this could be off a bit) has individual servers that hold about 100TB of data each, and Netflix claims they have around 18,000 servers worldwide.
Netflix has about 3000 movies and 1800 TV shows available in the United States at any given time. It varies in other countries, but is similar.
This is my server below (pen for size comparison and purple sticky note covering the super bright blue light that bores into my brain)
Tumblr media
It's got 5 drive bays, and right now I have 60TB of storage space in it (meaning it's just a little smaller than one of Netflix's servers), and only 37TB of which is currently used. I can easily expand with add-on bays once I fill up the 60TB.
I currently have 4470 movies and 862 TV series, all with closed captioning that I've curated and about 100 of the TV shows have bonus scenes and specials included.
My server cost me about $2700: $1200 for the 5-bay box and the rest was spent on hard drives over the course of 2 years -- 5 inside the server and 6 backup drives. I bought good drives when they were on sale.
I spent another $300 on a range extender for my house so mom and dad could watch in their bedrooms without interruption.
My home internet costs $50 a month and I'm able to serve friends and family in the US, Canada, Europe, and Australia. It's not always accessible (sorry Australia and your shitty internet), but it's up most of the time.
I never take movies/TV shows off of my server, and all the TV shows have their original DVD soundtracks, so nobody has to worry I'm going to remove their faves or ruin soundtracks.
I take requests from anyone, adding it when I find it with no judgement on content.
I don't charge anyone for using my server, and yet I'm paying less than I used to for internet and streaming services.
My payments for internet and streaming for my business and two family houses (Charlie's house and my house) used to be $900 A MONTH ($450 of it was the business internet because ISPs gouge businesses even though the internet usage at the shop is less than home).
Just before I quit Cox Internet, they were about to raise the cost and my new total would've been $1000 per month.
My monthly payments are now $220 for internet service and streaming services. So within just a few months, the server paid for itself.
I still have YouTube TV, Netflix x2 (one for each house), Hulu, and Discovery+.
I'm not saying the average person can set this up, but I want to make it clear that streaming services aren't the mysterious, unknowable magic that people think they are.
They're just servers (hard drives) with data on them and a good internet connection.
Anyone can set up a home server. You don't need a $1200 box like mine. Even an old computer/laptop or single hard drive will work.
A brand new 2TB good-quality hard drive that could hold about 1000 movies or 60-80 TV series would only cost $60 plus another $29 for a basic enclosure/case. (I bought mine from NewEgg for backups)
Tumblr media
I use Plex as my media server program. It has a free version and a paid version. I bought the lifetime pass on sale for $90. It goes on sale 2-3 times a year. There are other programs out there too, including Kodi, which has a Netflix skin so it looks like you're using Netflix.
Plex and other programs like it already have a huge library of metadata, so I didn't have to create my own cover art or fill in any other information other than title & year for movies or title + season + episode number for TV shows.
Careful naming of files and sorting in properly-named folders is all you need to have this:
Tumblr media
It took me about 3 months to download and organize most of the movies and TV shows in between working and taking care of my home/family. Now I update the server once a week and it takes about 2 hours a week to download/update new TV shows and movies.
I wasn't able to torrent when I had Cox Internet, but the new $50/month ISP doesn't give a shit. Even so, I use a VPN, which is $9 a month just in case they ever decide to get touchy about torrenting.
The server does regular maintenance on itself, and I have backups of everything.
I realize not everyone has the tech skills to set something like this up, but even if one tech person in the family or circle of friends has the ability, they could serve around 60 people.
The most I've had streaming at one time was 10 separate people watching different things, and my server handled it with no problem.
Others on the server forum claim they've maxed out around 25 people simultaneously watching, but 60 people is the number suggested because not everybody will watch at the same time.
Streaming, as it currently works, does NOT support anyone related to the creation of TV shows and movies.
Hopefully this will change, but even if it does, that doesn't change the fact that I can easily support creators myself by buying their DVDs, merch, going to cons, and donating to them or their projects directly.
Right now, pirating movies and TV shows doesn't hurt creators because streaming services and big studios are the main villains, and if all you did was donate $5 to your favorite TV show/movie, you'd be giving them more than if you streamed their content as many times as you wanted each month on a big streaming service.
I have movies and TV shows on my server that aren't even available from content creators anymore due to greedy CEOs and execs who dump their content for tax breaks.
If more people switched to using their own servers, MAYBE it would scare the greedy assholes into paying content creators what they deserve, but in the meantime it's a great way to enjoy content that was created to be shared and to support the creators.
EDIT: I need to add that streaming a TV show/movie as much as possible in the first few weeks of the release date DOES help the show get renewed and the movie execs are more likely to buy future movies, so please stream as much as possible then to help content creators. After that time is up and the streaming service moves on, then it's totally fine to pirate.

Get To Know Me
Tagged by @upatreewithoutaharness. thank you my angel, i love tumblr things like this :)
Tag (5) people you'd like to know better! I'm tagging @ivalician @offspring @scootil @softboypassing @psygull
Last song: At Giza by OM. i listened to it while stocking yogurt inside the cooler at work and it was great. i felt like i was in communion with all people who have lost themselves in the motions of a thoughtless and repetitive task. my coworker was on the other side facing the stuff as i was stocking it and she waved to me through the yogurt, which made me remember how we planned to hang out and watch conan the destroyer later in the week, and i thought about how we would order chinese food to eat while we watch the movie, how i was looking forward to that, and how cool it was of her to ask to come over and watch it. the whole experience made me very glad for my life which is a feeling that OM provokes in me a lot!
Currently reading: THE BOOK OF THE NEW SUN, endlessly... i am now early in Citadel of the Autarch. where will fate bring Severian next? i think much has yet to be fulfilled. it just keeps getting better and better. the book of the new sun is something that to me is so good it's almost impossible to talk about.
i pass in and out of reading a few other things also. two big ones for me have been the Penguin Classics selected writings of Meister Eckhart and The Heart of the Buddha's Teaching by Thich Nhat Hanh. i enjoy both but both leave me wanting something. i also have a kindle sample downloaded for Paul Takes the Form of a Mortal Girl, which a few friends were talking about reading together as part of a book club... although i have not looked at the sample yet!
Currently watching: last night i really wanted to watch Children of Men but i didn't want to pay the 4 dollars to rent it on any kind of service so i just watched clips on youtube from the movie until i felt like i remembered enough of the rest of it that it was "refreshed" in my mind and i didn't need to watch it again. remembering this makes me feel some regret. i should have just rented and watched the movie.
today i was thinking that i should watch some of the star trek shows from the 80s and 90s again. i loved them as a kid and there's this toy store near work that has tons of the old action figures of all the characters. one of my coworkers is super into star trek and he showed me his collection of like every deep space 9 figure. i have such a fond, warm place for those shows in my memory!
Current obsession: wintertime! i keep thinking about autumn and winter and how eager i am for them to come. i want to walk around in the frigid and misty winter night and go downtown and really feel like i am in the absolute center of some kind of cold, austere, hierarchical structure. then i go back to my apartment and the warm light and comfortable things. today my friend asked me if i was doing anything for christmas this year. like five months in advance! how cute! when i was a child for some reason i had a playmobil playset of the three wise kings from the nativity story. just the kings and their camel and their supplies, no other nativity stuff included. i had no awareness of any bible stories as a child except the nativity scene and i only knew about it because my dad explained who the three toy kings were. because of that i always associated christmas with a feeling of extreme ancient mystery as a kid

I’ve got a funny idea with damsel in distress role reversal. How about Jon’s a city boy who’s dad just died and the rest of the family cut him off from the money so he takes whatever chuck of $ he had to himself and buys a house in the woods. On the private dirt road to his house his fancy suv (that has no awd) gets stuck in the snow. And then up rolls Sansa (his new and only neighbor for miles) in a big truck with 4x4 wondering who’s driving down her road. She’s completely unimpressed with his brand new carhartt pants (did he iron them??) and name brand flannel that’s too thin but she takes him to her house and explains the house he bought is unlivable, the realtors had showed him a picture that was a decade old. Of course a blizzard happens and he has to stay for a week and learn how to rough it but he’s eager to learn and while a little sheltered not as shallow as she thought. Cupid hits them both. Happily ever after, tada!
a note about prompts in general: I have about 25 of them sitting in my inbox and I'm sorry I haven't done them yet! To be honest, a lot of them are for media I have never consumed, and so I need to at least read the synopses of the movies, TV shows & books. (I might try to watch the movies, but I know I won't watch the shows or read the books... I have a terrible attention span anymore)
a note about this prompt specifically: I always feel guilty when I get a fairly specific prompt and then write something that... well, isn't that. I took the basic premise of this and wrote what came into my head, so I'm sorry it's not the exact thing you asked for! But thank you for the prompt!!
...
read it on ao3 here
ephemera: chapter 26
...
Sansa hums along to the radio as she drives.
It's getting dark, and she's not the biggest fan of driving these back roads at night, but she's got Lady with her, so she isn't quite so worried. She'd gone over to Greywater to drop off some stuff for her dad, and the Reeds had invited her to stay for dinner, and now she's late getting back.
As she rounds a bend, she slows when she sees a car on the side of the road, it's hazards on, a man standing next to the vehicle, head bowed over a phone that she knows instantly won't have service. They're in the deepest part of the woods here, it's a dead zone.
It isn't tourist season, she thinks. That's what he has to be – no one ventures out this far unless they're a tourist, but usually they only come around in the autumn to ooh and aah at the changing leaves.
She slows down to a crawl and leans over to roll down her passenger side window, the night air sweeping in and making her shiver, even in her coat. It's technically spring, but up here, it still gets cold at night.
“Flat tire?” she calls to the man, who had looked up from his phone the moment he'd noticed her headlights.
“Seems like it,” he says, and she can't quite read the tone in his voice.
He's got tourist clothes on. Expensive looking pants that she thinks he's even ironed, and a flannel that's too thin for this weather. She's seen it before, the richer tourists all dress the same.
“You won't get service out here,” she nods down at his phone, and he sighs.
“Yeah, sort of figured that.” He doesn't put his phone away, though. He keeps it in his hand, clutching at it, and she guesses it's a comfort thing. Tourists like their phones.
Sansa has a phone, but she sometimes forgets about it because service is so spotty out here, it's sometimes useless. When it is working, though, she likes to see what's going on in the outside world. She even downloaded some app called TikTok and when the 5G is working, she likes to scroll through it at night and wonder what her life might be like if she lived somewhere that wasn't Winterfell.
“You got a spare?” she asks.
“I would assume,” he shrugs, and looks towards the trunk of the sedan.
If it weren't for Lady, Sansa would tell the man she'll go and find Jory to come help. The Cassels own a tow service and during tourist season, they troll these back roads looking for people exactly like this – city folk who bring their fancy sedans out here, only to find barely-paved roads and tons of potholes and deer.
But she does have Lady, and so instead, she backs her truck up, then pulls in behind the tourist's sedan so that her headlights illuminate it, and she keeps them on even after she shuts off the engine.
Lady is out first, and Sansa follows.
To his credit, the tourist doesn't flinch back from Lady, like most of them do. Lady's a big dog, and she's scary looking, even if Sansa knows she's got a gentle heart. Well, she has a gentle heart until someone threatens Sansa. Then Lady turns as feral as Shaggydog.
“You don't know if you have a spare?” she asks, trying to keep a tone out of her voice.
The man sighs and runs a hand through his hair, a mop of dark curls that look soft and inviting. That's another thing Sansa doesn't mind about the tourists – their hair always looks so shiny. Last year, she'd even gotten some recommendations from a few, and Sansa had gone online and ordered some products for herself, using her carefully saved money. An unnecessary expense, but every time she uses them, she spends the whole day touching and smelling her own hair, and it makes her happy.
“It's a rental,” the man explains. “So I assume there's a spare.”
“I'm guessing you don't know how to change it?” she asks, once again trying to keep that tone out of her voice, though it doesn't quite work. The tone that says, of course you don't know how. Look at you, pretty boy.
“I live in King's Landing,” the man shrugs again. If he hears the tone, he doesn't seem bothered by it. “I don't drive much.”
She nods, because that makes sense. She remembers visiting King's Landing once, with her parents. It had been a big deal, she'd been so excited to go, except she remembers getting there and everything was just so... much. So many people and the buildings rising like mountains around her and all the noise. And she remembers the Metro, how confusing it had been, how terrifying. She'd been a tourist there, she realizes - wide eyed and frightened and useless out of her element. He might not know how to change a tire, but she bets this man wouldn't blink twice at using the Metro.
“Open the trunk,” she instructs, and he follows her direction without question. Inside, she does find a spare tire, but no jack or tire iron. Useless.
Luckily, she has both in her truck, and so she goes back and retrieves them.
“Here,” she says, placing the jack under the jacking point. “Lift that?”
Again, he follows her direction without question, and it gives her pause. Sansa knows what she looks like, she knows most men don't take her very seriously. Not even in Winterfell, where they know her. She's always been the least useful of her siblings. The Stark who likes pretty things, always daydreaming, her head stuck in the clouds. But the tourist follows her instructions, no hesitation.
She may be the most useless of her siblings, but she does know things. And she certainly knows how to change a tire.
She watches him jack the car up, and that's when she notices the muscles in his arms, in his shoulders, through the thin material of his flimsy flannel, his forearms flexing where he's rolled up his sleeves. She decides to ignore that, and instead goes to haul the spare out of the trunk.
“Here, you use this to loosen the lug nuts,” she says, handing him the tire iron and pointing to where he needs to use them, and he does it. When the flat tire is off, she rolls him the spare and he puts it on, and she decides she doesn't mind this tourist. By now, most of them would be complaining, but he hasn't made a face, he hasn't let out a heavy sigh, he hasn't even frowned at her.
Not what she'd expect from someone with those shoes. Sansa may not be an expert, but she's spent enough time looking longingly at fashion magazines that some of the tourists leave behind (late at night, beneath her covers) to recognize the brand he's wearing. And now that he's rolled up his sleeves, she can see the watch on his wrist that she knows must cost more than anything she owns, or will ever own. He's lucky she's the one who found him. They're mostly good people out here, but there's a few bad seeds who would kill this man for his watch alone.
“This should get you to the next town, at least,” she says. She doesn't tell him the next town is her own home. “They can replace it there.” And then, because he keeps silent as he puts the lug nuts back on, she asks, “where are you headed, anyways?”
“Place called Winterfell,” he says, tightening the last of the lug nuts.
“What business you got in Winterfell?” she asks in surprise, caught off guard. It isn't tourist season, and no one ever has a reason to come to their small town otherwise.
“Oh,” he stands, slipping his flannel off and using it to wipe at his hands, the small bits of grease she can see spotting them. “I uh...” he starts, eyes on his hands as he keeps scrubbing at them, though the grease is long gone. “My mom's from there,” he says finally.
“Your mama?” Sansa asks, surprise making her blurt out another stupid question. “What's her name?”
The man looks up at her, studies her for a moment, before he says, “Lyanna Snow.”
“No way,” she breathes.
“You know her?” he asks, and something flares behind his eyes, something that looks almost... desperate?
“Oh, no, not personally,” she shakes her head. “But my daddy... he used to talk about her. They were friends. Said she ran off to the city, because-” Because she got pregnant by some tourist. Followed him to the city. “Daddy says they lost touch a long time ago, but he still talks about her,” she finishes lamely.
“Yeah,” the man says, shoulders deflating a little. “She died when I was young. I didn't even know she was from there, until I found her birth certificate a few months ago in dad's paperwork. Did some research and I thought... well, maybe I'd come check it out. See if I've still got family out here or something.”
Sansa wishes she hadn't stopped. She wishes she'd continued on and gotten Jory.
She could choose not to say anything. Let him continue on to Winterfell on his own, let him learn the truth that way. But the idea of it... no, she can't do that.
“You won't find much,” she says softly. “The Snows died a few years ago, and Lyanna was their only child. You might have some distant kin in the area, but nothing direct.”
“Oh.”
That's all he says, but it makes something deep in Sansa's chest ache.
“I didn't even catch your name,” she says, because she can't stand the silence, or the way his eyes go distant as he stares off into the dark woods.
“Jon,” he turns back to her, blinking slowly.
“I'm Sansa Stark,” she says, holding out her hand. “It's nice to meet you, Jon Snow.”
He winces as he takes her hand, “it's Targaryen, actually. Mom gave me my dad's last name. I've thought about changing it, but-” he cuts himself off, as if he's decided he's sharing too much information, and takes his hand back. “Will that spare get me back to King's Landing?” he asks, and she feels another pang in her chest, a twisting of her heart. He's going to go back to the city, because he's not going to find the family he was looking for out here.
“Probably shouldn't,” she says truthfully. “Not good for the car, you should stop as soon as you find the nearest shop.” Then, after a slight hesitation, “Winterfell's the closest, and the Cassels will give you a good deal on a new tire, I promise,” she says. “I'll call them up the minute they open and let them know you're comin'.” Before she can think it through, she continues, “the Lodge has vacancies.”
“The Lodge?”
She nods, feeling her face go a bit hot, and she's grateful for the darkness. “It's like a hotel. My family owns it. We've got plenty of openings since it isn't tourist season.”
He nods slowly, as though he isn't going to take her up on the offer, but he doesn't want to offend her.
“And I was thinkin', you know,” she keeps going, “my daddy might want to meet you. He could tell you all sorts of things about your mama.”
Hope flashes in his eyes again, rekindled, and that ache pangs in her chest.
“I don't want to impose,” he says, carefully, and she shakes her head.
“Don't you worry about that,” she says. “I'm sure daddy would love to meet you. He always wondered what happened to her.”
The man, Jon, nods, still cautiously, as if he's trying not to get his hopes up. But she can see the change in him – she knows he's not going back to the city. At least not tonight.
“You can follow me if you want,” she offers.
“Alright,” he agrees.
They get back into their vehicles and she pulls out first and drives slowly, making sure he keeps up, making sure another pothole doesn't waylay him again. He has no reason to trust her, but he still follows, and she might call him naive if she weren't just as stupid for telling a strange man on a dark road to follow her home.
Yet there's something in her that trusts him, that knows he's telling the truth.
She's leading Lyanna's boy home.

Hellsite Nostalgia Tour 2023 Day 11
"Asylum"
Would I Survive the First Five Minutes??: Yes. I simply would not go into a place I knew was horrifically haunted. That's what Shane Madej and Ryan Bergara are for. I also simply would not marry a cop. 8/10
I like that we are getting a continuation of the "finding dad" storyline for the second episode in a row, even if it's causing tension between the boys
(eeeeeeuuuuuuuggggghhhhhhhhh. back on my todobros au bullshit. dean is exactly what touya would be like if endeavor had been a different kind of neglectful of his eldest kid. and shoto/sam begging him to look beyond what their dad wants)
Sam trying to lie while also trying to not lie to this therapist is phenomenal. "been on a road trip with my brother. met a lot of...interesting people. did a lot of...interesting things" yes, girl, give him nothing
STOP GOING TO HAUNTED PLACES. GIRL, DUMP HIM IMMEDIATELY. YOU WERE PROMISED A MOVIE.
Dean spitting facts "when someone says a place is haunted, don't go in!" Thank you, Dean
$20 says that's not actually Dean on the phone. DO kind of love that the teenage girl is the one who can fire a shotgun and her lameass boyfriend can't #feminism (/j...at the tag. i am actually glad she's the one with the shotgun...for now, at least. i don't trust the writers) also, good for her for saying she's breaking up with him if they make it out alive
Knew it. Wasn't Dean on the phone. Was it Dr Ellicot? Probably.
WELL DAMN. Oh god...I'm really, really emotionally compromised watching them fight like this. Like, that was some REALLY HURTFUL SHIT. Dean giving Sam the pistol and Sam pulling the trigger while aiming at Dean???? Like, yeah, it wasn't loaded, and yeah, Sam was not fully himself at the time, but FUCK, man!
Seeing Dean throw the zippo lighter to salt and burn the bones is reminding me of the post about how many zippo lighters the Winchesters just waste over the course of the series
"Been On My Mind...": (Half way through and the bulk of the extra cast has been a middle aged therapist and a teenage girl...I'm gonna guess no) I was right.
"Dalek"
HERE. WE. GOOOOOOOOO!!! In a complete 180 of how I felt about the last adversaries the Doctor faced, I fucking LOVE the Daleks.
I was really hoping this episode took place just a LITTLE closer to our current time, but to have it set in 2012 is also very good
Man, I remember watching this episode for the first time and not knowing anything about ANYTHING. Like, NOW I recognize the cyberman head for what it is, but at the time? Could have been just some random robot head.
Ugh. This guy is insufferable. Thankfully, I think we just have to deal with him for one episode.
Man...the Dalek reveal happens MUCH earlier than I recalled it. I also think this is the rawest interaction between the Doctor and a Dalek we get in the series (at least as far as I remember). GODDDDDDDD two sworn enemies, mortal (and yet also immortal) enemies, coming to realize or being reminded that they are the last of their kind in the whole universe. The seething hatred between them, and yet...they have this one thing in common that no one else can possibly understand. It's GORGEOUS.
This poor kid...believes and believes and believes, and Rose just knows and won't tell. I mean, she has no reason to tell him, but still.
Why are they just standing there if hey were just told the Dalek could get out so easily?? Just. Run.
...okay but now I'm just curious about what if this episode DID take place closer to this year. The Dalek downloaded the entire internet, and they just asserted that it now knows everything. But like...that was 2005's thoughts on what they believed 2012's internet would be like...if it were closer to now, the Dalek has extensive knowledge of omegaverse and all of homestuck and every qanon conspiracy theory. I WANT TO SEE WHAT PSYCHIC DAMAGE 2023 INTERNET WOULD GIVE A DALEK (i swear i do love them, but it's just...this is so interesting)
"YOU. WOULD. MAKE. A. GOOD. DALEK." is such a banger line. Absolute mic drop of an insult.
Nah, I'm with the Dalek. That guy should die.
Watching the inner, squishy Dalek alien feel the sunlight after being trapped 53 floors below the ground and tortured has me feeling very "but what if I gave it a hug?" post. It's a good thing I grabbed my Dalek plushie before I started the episode. You know, to hug at this moment.

@thefreelanceangel smacked me with this thing, and I happen to be sitting here, looking at it, right at the moment when I'm both restless and bored and can't think of anything to read or do, so... yeah, okay, why not? Been a bit since I've done one of these things.
1. Are you named after anyone?
 Kinda.
So, the original plan was to name me after my father, but it turns out there was another guy in town with his name, and Dad, like... he hated that guy, and the thought that people might meet little baby me and think that I was that guy's kid just grated on him, so they named me after his best friend, but gave me Dad's middle name.
2. When was the last time you cried?
I don't remember the last time I did a whole-ass, full-on cry, but I probably furrowed my brow and tried to stoically choke down a swell of tearful emotion while watching fucking Ted Lasso yesterday.
Same thing with Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 the other day.
It used to be that like, I'd get fairly emotional about real life stuff, but not so much with media. Sure, it would have an effect on me, but that effect just didn't, like... go anywhere, if that makes sense. These days though, if I'm being honest? I will almost cry at the drop of a hat.
3. Do you have kids?
Nah. The cats are enough.
4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?
I think I use, like, a normal amount of sarcasm, whatever that is.
I really appreciate sarcasm, especially well-crafted sarcasm. It doesn't take much to just, I dunno, meanly say the opposite of how you actually feel about something, but good sarcasm can be an absolute delight.
When I was younger, I did an awful lot of the former, all the while confusing it for the latter. I won't say I always get it right now, but I try to do it less as a knee-jerk reaction, especially around people who might not know me as well... But I can't help it, and sometimes I show my ass.
If anything, I'm more likely to lapse into bathos than sarcasm.
5. What sports do you play/have you played?
Tee ball and coach pitch when I was a little, tiny kid. I was really bad at it, but Dad wanted me to do it, and it meant I got to hang out with him, even if I was terrified the entire time I was out there.
That's it, unless you want to count a few summers during/right after high school where my friends and I got really into Ultimate frisbee and started a league with teams and shirts and everything.
I, uh... I for one would rather not count that, if that's alright.
6. What is the first thing you notice about other people?
Honestly, it really just depends on how I meet them, you know? Is it an online thing? An in-person thing? A party? A concert? A convention? Work?
I guess I could say that I get a pretty strong gut reaction to people right off the bat, no matter the context. I'm pretty good about giving myself room to adjust how I feel, but there's definitely a quiet, ongoing vibe check that I notice first thing, if that counts.
7. Scary movies or happy endings?
This feels like a false dichotomy.
For years, I thought I didn't like horror, but then I realized that I had just been convinced that I didn't like horror. Turns out, I really like it, I'm just kind of specific about it.
I like happy endings, but sometimes I'm put off when things are just a little too pat, you know?
So, uh, yeah. I like both. This doesn't feel like an either/or for me.
8. Any special talents?
I kinda wanna say 'no,' but that's not really a fun answer, is it?
So, okay. Here's a fun one: One day when I was like, 17 or 18, I was sitting at my grandparents' computer, waiting on something to download for a class project, I saw one of those... Oh, I don't know what they're called, like... one those, uh, letter spikes? You know, it's a spike that sits upright on a desk and you impale letters on it?
Yeah. One of those.
Anyway, I saw it there, and I still don't know why I did this—chalk it up to that ADHD impulsiveness, I suppose—but I took the thing and just, like, slid it into my nostril. I expected resistance, but didn't really find any, so I just kinda, you know, kept going.
I slid the thing in—straight back, mind you! Not up!—until I felt it touch the back of my sinus cavity. It wasn't long before I was showing this off to anyone I could, using progressively more impressive-looking nails. I started keeping a nose nail handy just so I could do the impromptu human blockhead thing on demand at parties and stuff.
Uh, does that count?
9. Where were you born?
Nowhere good, I tell you what.
10. Do you have any hobbies?
I do a lot of tabletop RPG stuff. I'm coming up on session 8 of an Exalted game, which is a lot of fun. I ran tons of it back in the day, but I haven't touched it since like, '11, but it feels good to be running it again. Feels kinda like home.
I play some video games, too. I find that the interest is always there, but the actual doing of it waxes and wanes, and boy, is there a lot of waxing right now. Just... a lot of fun stuff coming out. Lots I want to play.
I, uh... should probably log into FFXIV sometime soon. Get caught up. Take screenshots. Roleplay. Sort inventory. Manage retainers. Anything, really.
Honestly though, I really love making terrariums. I always thought it was kind of neat, but I started watching terrarium videos on YouTube as kind of a Bob-Ross-Moment-of-Zen-Unwind-and-Destress kind of thing while I was working a super-stressful job, and then it just kind of turned into my pandemic hobby. I love it, but I haven't made anything in a while, since I'm low on a few supplies. This is a good reminder to change that, though!
11. Do you have any pets?
I do! Two cats and a leopard gecko. The cats are 17 and 11. The leopard gecko is... at least 16, but could be years older than that, as he was kind of a rescue situation. He's slowing down a lot and getting really fussy, so I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit worried about him, but I reckon he's had a good run.
12. How tall are you?
5'10? 5'11? Depends on my posture, I guess.
13. Favorite Subject in School:
Depends on what kind of school we're talking about.
In grade school, it was usually science, sometimes social studies.
In high school, I took whatever *-as-literature classes I could, but my favorite classes were probably actually World Cultures and Sociology.
In college, I double majored in Anthropology and Linguistics. My favorite class was probably Sociolinguistics, but I was pretty good at Phonetics and the Anthropology of Science Fiction course I took as an undergrad was a ton of fun.
Okay, I guess it doesn't actually depend. Most of that can be boiled down to "I like people, and I like words, and I like what people do with words."
14. Dream job?
As much as I'd love to be pithy and say something like "I don't dream of labor," Baldwin said it better than I could ever hope to.
I don't think I have a dream job. I just kinda wanna do stuff and then have time to, like, not do stuff, you know?
That said, as I get older, I do find myself daydreaming about all kinds of things that feel like they'd be fulfilling now, but didn't even cross my mind when I was in a better position to do something about it more easily.
For all the time I spent staring at the architectural mock-ups in the halls at college, I could have at least taken an intro class, right?
I spent a large chunk of my life thinking I had no interest in making things or putting things together before realizing how much I loved the thin line between frustration and cursing, and elation and satisfaction that comes with repairing something, just because I was told that wasn't the kind of thing guys like me did. Also, uh... Having a half—or even quarter!—decent set of tools (rather than whatever you can find around the house) really, really helps.
So, yeah. I dunno. I'm getting older and still figuring out what I want to do, which is kind of a pain in the ass for an old guy that's long past all the college and "What do you wanna do when you grow up?" part, but I guess that's alright.
Wait. No. I wanna be a garden hermit. Surely, that's still a thing somewhere, right?
15. Eye Color?
Blue.
I'm not tagging anyone because... I dunno, I don't wanna. But hey, feel free to steal this and do it and tag me back so I can see it. That sounds like fun.
I've got an OOC blog over at @justlikethefish. In theory, that's where I talk about stuff like this. In practice, it's mostly like, cats and memes, and the occasional two-sentence post about whatever tabletop game I'm running, or whatever. Oh, and just about every Calvin & Hobbes post I come across.

...When Paramount+ updated last night, I was hoping it was fixing the bugs. GUESS NOT.
Granted, my Dad has all the movies on disk so if I want or need, I can just borrow them from him. In fact, we just watched "Wrath of Khan", sans app, Friday night at his house. But this is fucking stupid. Paramount+, you are a buggy pain in the ass. I downloaded you for "As Told By Ginger." I put up with you for "Star Trek" (though I'm also getting into "Twin Peaks"). Frankly, that you would cut off almost every movie from one of your flagship franchises just boggles. What is the thinking here? "Now that they can't watch 'The Voyage Home', they'll have no choice but to tune in to 'The Good Fight!' BRILLIANT!!!"
Eat a nuclear wessel.

I just finished the Senki Block which includes:
1)Saber Special Chapter:OT4 vibes this ep were great, quite large.
Then there's whatever the hell was happenning beteeen Touma and Zox.
My favorite bit:
"Have you gone insane?"
"Yes, we have"
Also Orihime!Touma x Hikoboshi!Kento.
2)Zenkaiger episode 20:the Shindais really mesh better with the Zenkaiger cast.
They work better as the Comically Serious rather than whatever the hell sorta roll they had in Saber since Ryoga's introduction.
Reika/Magine FTW.
3)SUPER HEROOOOOOOO SENNKIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!:It was a much better watch this time, because I downloaded it rather than watching on Kissasian, where it was uploaded with the audio of the aid for the blind version.
I did not enjoy that it ignored the Special Chapter and Zenkai Ep 20, acting like the Riders didn't meet Zox and the Shindais didn't meet the Zenkaigers.
Kento should have worked alongside Red Racer in the Final battle, to show he did interact with the Carrangers when he was sucked into their book.
Sayonara, Onodera Shotaro-Sensei.
May the Riders always look to you for Guidance.
It was good to see the Zenkaigers again.
I've missed them, so even if this was something from the past that I've already seen for them, it was nice.
I'll only see them next in DonBrothers VS Zenkaiger.
4)Kamen Rider Revice:The Movie(prologue):not a bad watch.
It helped me Believe that I would enjoy Revice once I'm done with Saber.
Now, Onward to the last 9 episodes of Saber!
1- Special Chapter was a hoot from start to finish. The shenanigans was sublime XD It was also some much needed comedy right before shit went down in the Saber main plot.
Also, Rintaro being Kento's inflatable cow...
KenTouma was probably the best part of the episode... or was it ShuichiRyo? Sometimes I can't tell anymore. One of them posted a video on Tiktok where they were in costume but not on set, and they were... uh, very affectionate.
There were also these videos on Toei's YT for the tie-in with Superhero Senki where the Saber cast were competing against each other in a laser tag-type game. Ryo Aoki captained one of the teams and when he named Shuichiro for his first pick, Shuichiro squealed and ran at him to glomp him. It was wonderfully gay of them.
Tumblr media
2- Yeah, the Shindai sibs were definitely way better in the Zenkaiger crossover in their own show. Ken Shonozaki clearly had a lot fun playing off of the Zenkai cast's shenanigans, and Angela Mei's enthusiasm for Magine was self-evident.
3- Well, the Special Chapter and the Zenkaiger episode were always meant to be their own thing, not really tying into Senki. Most of the Spring crossover specials, back when they were a thing, were like that too- none of them really tied in to the Taisen films.
Yeah, it was a little disappointing that they didn't show what happened to Kento after he got sucked into the Carranger book... though that already had some other stories mixed in as well- Drive and Black, iirc. I'd like to think he was actually in that other world where he, Luna and Touma all grew up together, and where his dad was alive- which would explain his resistance to Touma returning things to the "normal" world. (Also, Ryo was so damned handsome in that sequence... I was simping the whole time)
Tbf, it also wasn't shown what happened to the other Zenkaigers aside from Kaito after they disappeared either. And Zox just shows up out of nowhere, lmao.
Honestly them including Ishinomori-senshu in this movie was kind of a brilliant move, and seeing his interactions with Touma and Hongou-san made me cry a little, ngl.
Also. Saber roll call scene. Fuck me, why don't they do this in Rider more often. It was amazing.
4- I didn't actually watch the Revice short movie, but from what I gathered it's not canon to the show because it and the first episode contradict each other in terms of how Ikki got his powers.

it's really telling what superheroes you grew up with according to your personality, i've realised.
just for example i'll use me and some friends of mine
I grew up with Batman and Spider-Man coz i had all the animated series on dvd or like, actually most of them were illegally downloaded onto this massive hard-drive. But anyways, i'm snarky and good with comebacks, but i also have depression, CPTSD, and major daddy issues- like out the wazoo. I fuckin hate my dad, you can quote me on that. Mummy issues are definitely there too, but i still love my mum so idk.
My best friend grew up the Flash, he obsessed with the dude. And my guy speaks a hundred miles a minute, he talks a LOT and so fast sometimes i have to get him to rewind. He just has so much to say and so much energy, and he's also the mother of the group so it's funny. he's super kind and understanding and like idk, he just feels safe, but also he drains my social battery real quick sometimes. Also he yells at me when i don't take my meds.
Another friend of mine, he grew up with Iron Man, and like all those MCU movies. and i'm not gonna lie here, this man is so full of himself, needs to be the centre of attention. but also he is SO loyal, and he loves his family. yes, he can be an asshole sometimes.. most of the time, but if you mean something to him he'll go out of his way for you. He also really doesn't like DC which, is understandable considering he was Team Iron Man during the war.
Another another friend of mine grew up with Super Man, her dad was obsessed so she ended up really getting into it too, she also grew up with that Green Lantern TV series too. She is SCARILY optimistic. at all times. She mostly keeps to herself but when she opens up she just talks and talks. And she's always that friend checking in on everyone's day just because. but also, don't piss her off. she's hard to piss off but once she's there it's like her eyes glare straight through you and she might murder someone.
My other friend grew up watching the Teen Titans (not teen titans go), like that really dark and edgy Teen Titans. and she was like, obsessed with Raven. probably still is actually. anyways she practices a lot of Wicca now and probably dies her hair even more than i do- which should be an achievement of sorts. She also buys a new book, or three, about true crime whenever the two of us spend our monthly pay at varying bookshops. in short, she is probably my favourite but she also really scares me sometimes.

Yo, if you have spare time, I'd love to hear about Twilight!
I tried reading the first book, but as I was in my Percy Jackson hyperfixation, my brain rejected any new thing that I threw at it, so I never finished it.
I have however seen almost all of the movies; New Moon is my favorite thing to watch when I'm sick. (I have no idea why)
I'm also curious, is it like most things that were made into movies, are the books better and would you recommend that I do try picking it up again?
(I don't really care about spoilers, I just love hearing people talk about things they're interested in, so this can be as long or short as you'd like it to! If you feel overwhelmed in the slightest about the amount of asks in your inbox, wait as long as you need.)
luckily for you, nonsie, I simply love to talk about Twilight. it's like a morbid fascination. is it good? no clue. do I know nearly everything about it and regularly reread them? yea.
it's fair that you didn't finish it!! I'm honestly surprised that I did and ended up as fascinated with the story as I am. It's definitely not the kind of book people would expect me to read, and then once I got started it was like well shit now i gotta go all out. My mom and sister watched all the movies with me, but my dad refused and just sat by the fire (like a campfire in the backyard. there aren't just random fires around) and I remember being vaguely annoyed at the time but now I don't think I'd let anyone watch with me!! it's simply an experience I'd prefer to have alone--also because I'm horrible to watch movies/shows/anything with because I won't stop talking and critiquing things
As much as I love the series, I don't watch the movies very frequently! Movies are very hard to watch just in general, even my favorite movies like Pan's Labyrinth (i've seen it like three times total). So it's very likely you've seen them more than me!! If I had to pick one though...breaking dawn part 2 perhaps?? I do love inhuman creatures so that's maybe why. But overall I really don't have a ranking for the movies
oh also they weren't available on netflix or any streaming site I have access to so the extra steps it would take for me to find them other ways wasn't worth it to me. But there was a period of time where I had the first movie downloaded to my google drive. it might still be there honestly.
I think I do personally prefer the books!! I prefer the way Bella and Edward's relationship and interactions are portrayed in them over that of the movie. Bella's a lot less...compliant? Might be the right word but who knows. It's been a while since I saw the movies, but I remember her really being that doe-eyed helpless girl who was just so in love with Edward nothing else really mattered. In the books she has a lot more attitude and argues with him a lot more. She expresses herself and has opinions!! She wants what she wants and she doesn't sell herself short--aside from being human and sad about it.
The book is older and smeyer definitely isn't the best person so there are a few phrases and ways things are worded that kinda snap me out of it when I'm reading and make me a little uncomfortable, so if you would want to read it I'd advise caution in that regard. The one that immediately comes to mind is in the very first book where Bella accused/asked Edward "Do you have a multiple personality disorder or something?" when she's mad at him and he's apparently acting like two different people. That line always stuck out for some reason as a bit off, but I can't remember the other ones right now.
as for whether I would recommend it...that's a complicated question. twilight is one of those series (for me at least) where you don't really encourage people to get into it or engage with it. If people happen to, good for them!! Glad you got into something about it on your own!! But it's more of a "if you know, you know" kind of situation where I don't actively recommend the story to anyone but it me talking about it leads to them reading it and they want to talk about it, I'm more than happy to!
I think when people ask for recommendations they're more looking for enjoyment or quality, like they're asking for a good story or one that has a certain quality. But when it comes to Twilight, you don't read it because you think the story is good or because the characters are well developed or the arcs are satisfying or anything like that. You don't read it for the reasons you usually read a book. It's more like you read it for the experience, to be a part of the group of people who saw this demonized media and went "I'm going to find a way to love this anyways" if that makes sense. At least that's how it is for me.
So it's up to you whether you want to try again! It's not for everyone and that's perfectly okay. But if you want the experience of reading the Twilight Saga, then go for it! And if you want to talk about it then I'm more than happy to. The choice is up to you!!
(and thank you! I don't think I really included spoilers in my response, but nice to know I can talk about any aspect! I talked more about the experience behind twilight than the actual context, so hope that's cool! and again this is just my personal feelings surrounding the saga, not everyone's.)
I hope some of that made sense. your ask reminded me that I need to rewatch the movies!! It's been far to long, so if I have spare time when I get home definitely gotta do that!!

S:Probably, when this episode goes on air, it won't be the case anymore but
K: Uh huh
S: But recently, I've had quite many spiritual experiences recently
K: Oh i was scared right there
S: ?
K: I thought you were quitting or something
S: No no no no, why would i do something like that?
K: That scared me, thought you were going to say, 'when this goes on air, i won't be here anymore'
S: Hhahahaha that blew up
K: I was so shocked
S: That's funny, but you know, I often say I see feathers, right? I still see them now and then, but recently, I'm not kidding, crickets keep coming to me. When i'm watching TV at night... well I'm not watching TV but
K: What are you talking about?
S: You know like, my TV is like...that...
K: You are just watching the screen
S: Ah yesyes, that's scary! It's like I'm a psychopath or something!
K: So Soma san you were just watching screen when..
S: When I watch movies at night, there would be the tapping sound on my window, there would be nothing, and after a while i would hear it again.
K: Uh huh
S: And when i open the window, the crickets would be like, 'Let me in!'
K: That's so dramatic
S: I think there is a huge tree near my window, and so there would be tons of them there growing.
K: Ahhh, they would fall nicely at a 45 degree angle
S: And it's easy for them to come in but not go out. I realised that recently, they are not really coming anymore. I was wondering why, and it has been hot recently, so I've not been going into the veranda much. When I went out, I realised that the tree, wasnt there
K: Ehhhhh!??
S: It was totally trimmed, I guess there were tons of complaints coming from other residents about crickets coming into their houses too
K: Would they trim it because of complaints?!
S: It has a very clean haircut now.
K: I don't know if I should probe into it this much but is that tree within the estate?
S: Yes yes , it is, so it comes under their management. And actually I dont miss them at all and, i feel lucky in fact
K: And also it's nothing spiritual at all, just that the bugs are gone
S: Ahahahahaa
----
~About year end times and visiting their parents'~
S: It's hard for me to move around, like my hometown is in Yamanashi
K: Actually my parents home was in tokyo but they have moved to kanagawa actually, so they're like telling me, not to come back
S: Ahahahaa
K: And they got a cat, when I'm allergic to cats. And also since they're in Kanagawa, they might have some resistance to come to Tokyo. So, I can't go back!
S: Are you in contact with them?
K: Ahhh well yes
S: So that was when they told you that, they were getting a cat and stuff, and therefore
K: Telling me not to come back
S: I don't think that's what they think wwww
It's a tough time huh
K: Yes it's a tough family situation
S: Ahahahaaa what's that
K: Why are they going further away though...
S: I actually talked on the phone for 2 hours with my parents, after a long time, they seemed really happy i think. After that I think i heard from my sister that my parents told her about how i called them
K: Ahh
S: I'm usually the kind that doesnt contact people. So i guess this situation sort of makes us try to keep in contact. So not all's bad
K: I see, when i go back home, I'm like doing a radio show alone for 2 hours
S: Ahahahaaha
K: When i go home, I talk non stop, for like 1 hour and we laugh and laugh and then I'll be, 'Okay, I'm off'
S: Ahahahaa you're providing them one slot of entertainment
K: I'd be like, 'wasn't it fun?' , 'bye bye'
S: Does your style of talking take after any of your family members?
K: Nope
S: Ah
K: Totally no one. I'm the only one who talks this much
S: Ah, so they're rather quiet, all of them
K: My dad would talk when he's excited but is usually the listener. I don't really understand what my mum says at all
S: wwwww what does that mean?
K: Maybe we're similar?
S: Ahahahhaa
K: My younger sister doesn't ever come out of her room
S: Stop that
K: My elder brother keeps bullying others
S: wwwwww ok but
K: Maybe it's a hybrid, I'm all of those things at times
S: Well but you're nice on the inside
K: Yes I am! So is my family! Hahahaha
S: Haahahha
~~
Q. There are not many events nowadays but it seems like there are many recordings and filmings these days?
K: No?
S: wwwww well in general for voice actors, probably all the recordings that were halted have resumed  maybe
K: By recording, what kind of recording do you mean?
S: wwwww what do you mean by what kind?
K: Well there's after recording
S: Ah ah ah, Ok then count it in
K: Ah, okat then Yes, it has increased
S: Ahahahaa
K: Yes, it's great. I don't really have recording for like songs
S: I think ive gotten more reading jobs nowadays, and I've always said i liked reading, but i had one where i had to read out everything myself, it was, really difficult
K: I guess you have to create and ups and downs right, that's tough right
S: And i think, it's not too good if you create too many ups and downs
K: Ahhh, it's difficult to decide when to hold back
S: Yesyesyes. And usually i would read books for leisure and books for work differently.
K: I see
S: And recently I end up thinking a lot when reading, like how should I make it more interesting
K: Ahhh that doesn't sound fun
S: Totally
K: When I have fun doing YouTube, versus when I use some editing methods because I feel it's good for my videos
S: And it goes on for hours, well it happens for radio as well, like 3-4 hours, to be immersed in one story for rhat long, we don't have it that much
K: Uh huh
S: Like... i want to improve my concentrating ability
K: Ahhh that...
S: Well....Kaito kun are there any types of jobs that you have more now
K: Not really... anything... it has been the same
S: So it has really gotten back to normal
K: Yes. I think I've had more free talk sort of gigs now
S: wwwwww
K: So, what do they see me as?
S: Well but you know you are able to do freetalk for 2 hours at your parent's house
K: No no no but well the freetalk at do at my parent's house goes like, 'this and this happened at work, haha, my partner for radio is this sort of person, he's really irritating
S: Wait wait, stop stop, can i rewind?
K: Ok ok ok, so like what i say at my parent's house goes like, 'my partner for radio is really irritating' something like that
S: wwwwwww
K: Hahahaha, just a little
S: You simplified it huh, from just now
K: I don't even remember what i said
S: But Kaito kun is someone who can just talk about something interesting when the time needs to be dragged a little
K: Really?
S: Isn't that so?
K: Freetalk is like... if there's nothing interesting that happened in your daily life, there's nothing to talk about so
S: Yes, that's true
K: So, i only say what comes to mind at that point
S: Yeah yeah
K: So, sometimes i read comments like, 'Kaito kun said this and this some time ago but now he's saying this and this'
S: Uh huh
K: But what i say is different at different times. So, recently I felt the need to accumulate things to talk about
S: Yes, that's also what you thought of due to this increase in free talk related gigs
K: Yes yes
S: And so you're actually
K: I wanted to note down stuff so, use my secret twitter account that I use for ego searching
S: Wait wait, why, why? Just use a notebook or something
K: Well but, I feel like tweeting them
S: Ahahahhaaa I don't get it! Your ego searching account
K: It has 0 followers, is unlocked, and has no interaction with anyone
S: I see I see
K: And I would tweet photos of my animal crossing game for my own keepsake
S: Ahahahaha huh? That's kinda scary
K: So I'm using it in place of a notebook now. My recent note was 'Human nails degenerate too fast, don't they?' They break all the time and it's painful and bloody', and I don't even remember what that was about
S: Oh my god
K: Scary right?
S: Totally scary, Posting animal crossing photos and leading to this is also scary. What's that about human nails?!
K: The fact that it's scary... already becomes a topic
S: I see I see, you noting down things and don't remember anything about it
K: And the fact that the first tweet was something really scary
S: Ahahahhaahaa
K: Hahahaa
S: But it's an account you would like to keep lowkey
K: If it gets circulated due to a bug or something that would be real bad
S: Please be careful!

You and Jay finally had a day off and you guys were at Jay's. You guys were supposed to be watching a movie that Jay rented, but you guys were to concentrate on making fun of each other to pay attention to it. You both were on the sofa, your legs over his. "Says the guy who is obviously attempting to impress me all the time,"
Jay gives you the side eyed. "When?"
"Every time we have to chase down a suspect, you go and do extreme efforts,"
"Sorry to break it to you baby girl, I've done that before you even arrived here,"
"Oh, I know, but it's gotten worse since I've joined. You do realize putting yourself in harm's way doesn't do you any justice and won't get you laid you know, right?"
He looked at you and mouths, oh and then pushed you off his legs, which makes you fall on the floor. You giggle and sat up thinking about a way to get him back. You smiled to yourself. You got up off the ground and straddled Jay's lap. His eyes were full of lust. You bit your lip, straining to hold back your lust for him. He moved his hand to touch your face, but you grabbed both of his hands and held them down. You moved down to kiss his lips and then slowly yoy moved down to his jaw and then you lightly graze my lips against his neck and he let out a small moan as you bit down on his neck. I forgot the reason, you was doing as you let my desire to get the best of him. Jay broke through my grip as he was much stronger than me. He quickly took my shirt off and started doing what you was doing to him but more aggressive.
Your phone started to ring, but you didn't care as you took Jay's shirt off. The voice message notification went off as Jay got your shirt off.
As you started to unbutton Jay's pants, his phone started to ring. You stopped doing what you did, looked at him knowing who was calling. You got off Jay's lap and let him grab his phone. He showed you the caller I.D and saw that it was Voight. He got his breath under control before he answered the phone while he answer the phone, you grabbed your phone and listened to the voicemail. You had a case that needed your help and Voight said the same thing to Jay. You put your shirt on and went to the bathroom and noticed that a couple of spots on your neck were red and started to bruise. "Shit,"
You quickly opened a drawer, saying a quick thanks for your forgetful ass, leaving some of your makeup here. You quickly applied it to your neck as Jay came in the bathroom. "Think you can do that for me too,"
You turned and saw that his neck was doing the same as yours.
----
You walked into the casino with Jay and Voight eyed you two for a second before addressing the team. "Trade Casino,"
Voight started walking towards the back and you looked at Jay and with a wink went. "Feeling lucky?"
Jay's lips twitched up for a few second before he forced himself to hide it. You walked into the back and see multiple D.O.As. Antonio was already in there and he sees you. "Over here. They killed the damn errand boy too,"
Your heart shattered when you saw the little boy. You guys saw walked over to where the security cameras were at it and watch them. Voight didn't take his eyes off the camera. "Surgical,"
Dawson saw the moment the little boy came in. "They were startled by the boy."
Jay saw the little details. "Weapons. Uniforms. Military, for sure. These guys are pros,"
Voight looked at Lane, "I wanna copy of this in the Intelligence office before we get back,"
---
We've been in intelligence for about an hour digging up anything your hands on. You put up a few different pictures on the board at the same Jay did. "All right, this is an illegal triad gambling den. It's one of the dozen that Vice think they operate in the area. Problem is they tend to shut down and pop up somewhere else quickly,"
     "Who's their competition?"
Jay pointed at a picture. "Cermak Crew,"
Antonio walked closer to the board, but leaned against your desk. "They got a lockdown on the illegal lotto in the neighborhood,"
Jay pointed towards Antiono but then moved his arms. "They take the nickels and dimes, and the triads take the bigger cash,"
Voight looked between you, Jay and Antonio. "This Cermark crew looking for a bigger piece?
   "They could be,"
Lane walked up the stairs and into where we all were. "Alright. I went back seven days and downloaded all in-progress, and service calls in close proximity to the Chinatown quad. WE got three calls on suspicious vehicles. I ran the plates. Legit, Legit, but the third came back ghost. I put that plate into our lookout database and just got a text back with its location. 236 West First. Right back in Chinatown,"
Jay walked back over to his desk and moved some paper around. "That's another trait gambling den. It looked like a karaoke bar from the outside, but they're playing pai Gow once you go in,"
    "Alright, let's go,"
Jay offered to go into the den alone. The longer he was in there, the longer you worried, but you knew Jay could handle himself. About maybe ten minutes come comes out talking about how there are cops in there and now you are back in intelligence. Voight walked up to Jay and threw a file on his desk. "They're cops? This the guy you saw?"
Jay picked up the file and looked through it. "Yeah, he had his gun in the traid's mouth,"
You all looked at the file. "You know him?"
Voight looked at you and nodded. "That's Jimmy Shi. We were partners when I first came up. Me and Jjimmy worked the gang unit with Alivin. Ivory tower recognized he'd be better served working undercover in Chinatown,"
Al stood up from his seat and walked over to where you guys were standing. "Yeah, perfect place for him,"
Voight reached for the file back and then addressed the team. "He's got his own vice squad now all Chinese cops."
Jay stood up from his desk and shrugged. "All I can tell you is he was dressed like the guys in the video, and he was looking awfully cranked,"
You walked over to your desk, leaned on it. "So why don't we put a tail on him, see what's what?"
Voight didn't even entertain that idea. "Causee it ain't him,"
You eyed him. "You sure on that?"
   "Yes, he's a cop,"
   "You're the boss,"
Voight shot down any mention of Shi being dirty and that he'll talk to him. The team had no other choice but to agree mainly because you all trusted Voight. You and the rest of the team were waiting at sis' place. You and your father in the same car. Voight wanted to talk to you which you thought it was about Justin. "You know this whole trusting someone cause he's a cop is gonna burn you someday,"
Voight just looked at you for a second before talking. "Well, I'll cross that bridge if needed,"
Voight turned and looked over towards where Jay and Ruzek were at in Jay's truck. "Are you sure there isn't anything between you and Jay?"
You rolled your eyes and looked at him. This protective dad is getting old. "Dad, I''ve told you, nothing is going on there and even if it was, it's none of your concern. I'm old enough to make my own decision and if I want to date someone, I will,"
"It is, if it'll affect the job,"
You were getting annoyed with this whole 'dating your partner will just cause problems' shit. You were done with that mindset. You can date someone and still be a badass and still do what it right. "It wouldn't. I know how to separate personal things from work things. Now, drop it,"
Voight was about to say something, but dropped it and looked out the car. "Shy,"
He tries to get out, but you held him back and watched him for a few second before opening your mouth. "We are already here, why don't just trail him and if it leads to nothing, then you can talk to him,"
Voight looked at you and thought about what you were saying and he finally agreed. "Fall back. We are gonna put a tail on Jimmy,"
We ended up following ship to a building and Antonio called in to Voight and told them that the rest of the vice team came in after we got there. We saw his team walking up to meet Shi and putting on masks. "We got 'em. Let them make an entry, "
It was about a few minutes after the call from Antonio when they finally make an entry. "Everyone move in,"
You grabbed your gun and your bullet proof vest and walked up to where Jay was still getting ready. You give me the 'be careful' look and he gives you one back. Voight fastening his vest and looked at all of us. "Antonio, you, Olinsky, and Atwater take the front. Me, Halstead, and Y/N will take the back,"
We all nodded. I was going to take the lead, but Voight made me go last.

Yeah, I'm the one who can't separate personal from work.
You went to the front, and you have seen the others walk in and you went and busted into the main room of this place. "Chicago P.D,"
You walked pointed a gun at another suspect as the team did the same.
Voight pointed the gun at Shi. "Put down the gun,"
Shi wasn't listening. Put it down,"
After a few minutes of the suspect an intense staring contest and not listening he finally put down the gun and got on his knees. After he got on his knees, the rest of his team did too. While bringing them out of the buliding, Voight ripped of the mask and exposed Shi. "What the hell are you doing here, Voight?"
Voight didn't even looked at him. "We got you for this robbery and four others,"
"Robberies? We're here apart of a six-month operation to take down the leadership of the traid,"
"Yeah? Then why are you all skulled up, Jimmy?"
"I've been wokring this Chinatown detail for 11 years. They know my face. We were going to shake down the employees of that place to get the names on the traid. Now, at least put us in the cars, would you, please?"
You were now in the back of the precinct after taking Jimmy out of the car and Jay went up to Intelligence. "What are you now Voight, Interal Affairs?"
Voight looked at Shi. "We caught a robbery homicide case, and Intelliegnce prursed it. The gang in the video look a hell of a lot like you,"
     "I'm not dirty!"
    "Jimmy-"
Voight was going to say something but Jimmy. "We were partners. Partners! And did I ever look sidesides at you? At Alvin? Not Once not when they came asking about Brownin. Not ever,"
Jay comes back downstairs and into the back room. "There's been another robbery. They hit the pool hall Jimmy and Rick here stopped at eariler,"
You were at the pool hall and every single person that was alive when you were in not even an hour before, were shot and dead. You and Dawson walked back to the hall after talking to witnesses. "Four masked suspects with rifles,"
"Witnesses said that they could be gone and out without bloodshed but I guess thats not the style,"
Voight looked back at Shi. "We saw you and Rick come in by yourselves,"
"Yeah. We got a C.I inside here. He gave us the C.B.A address where you arrrested us He's the one that gots a new coin slot in his head,"
"When you came out, you radioed your crew?"
   "That's right,"
You talked before he could. "They're on your radio,"
-------
You were back in the lobby in Intelligence talking about the details about the case with Shi. Voight looked at the board that had all the details on it and then looked back towards the team. "So we got a four men crew impersonating Jimmy's vice unit, freelancers, probably ex milltary, listening in on their radio calls and hitting vulnerable casinos as soon as they know Jimmy's left,"
Dawson walked up next to Voight and looked at the team as well. "That's right so we should use that against them. Jimmy, why don't we have you and your team bait a fake count house with Olinsky and me acting as bankers? You guys radio amongst each other you got 200,000from some new den, and they're in the process of banding it. Once we're inside, we put out a fradulent 10-1 office-needs-assistance call, and you guys radio in, aboriting your surveilance to respond to the call and then we wait,"
Jimmy was silent until now. "Yeah, with a sticky net,"
"We tie this crew to the other robberies, we put 'em away forever,"
While Antonio went to the court house to get a court order, you were in the back room of the precinct with Jay restocking everything and making sure everything that you need is in the veichle. For the time being it was just you and Jay doing it. "You know what we started this morning isn't over,"
You smiled. "Obiviously. I mean I started it and I intend to finish it,"
Jay winked at you and was about to kiss you when you heard footsteps coming down the stairs. You two quickly parted and you saw that it was Jimmy. "You look just like your mom,"
Just hearing him compare you to your mom, pissed you off. You might looked like her not that where the simarillties end. "Too bad, I never got to know that,"
You picked up a box and put it in the veichle and shut the door. You turned and saw he was looking at you funny. "Know what?"
     "You didn't know?"
Jimmy shook his head at you. "No?"
"She died a few months after she had me because she was too much of a drug addict who was always looking for the next fix instead of taking care of her kid,"
You didn't say anything else. You just walked back upstairs leaving a confused Shi in the back room.
------
You were now outside the fake count house with Voight, Rick, Burgess and Atwater while Jay, Antonio, Ruzek, and Al were inside the house. You didn't know what was being said as you didn't have a radio that had Rick and Jimmy had. After a few minutes of not knowing anything. Voight calls radios Al and you heard it. "Okay, Olinksy, call it in,"
You heard the radio click on and Al's voice come through. "Offier calling for help, multiple offenders on scene. 10-1,"
About ten minutes you saw a maroon SUV coming, you quickly got on the radio. "Here they come, A crown vic and a maroon SUV,"
Voight was the next one to come over the radio. "Remember, we got to let them breach if we want to pin this one them,"
    "Roger that,"
They got out the car and up to the door and before we could get a heads up to the team, they threw a flashbang inside the house. You and your team quickly jumped out of the car and ran over to the house. You drew your gun and started shooting as they started shooting at you. You dodge behind a park car and saw that there was a suspect running. You quckly grabbed your radio. "Suspect is on foot. I'm in pursuit,"
You quickly dodge between cars until you were out of the line of fire and then went full sprint. You had saw him turn into an alley, you quickly turned and saw him trying to climb up a high fence. You run up to him and pulled his ass off the fence and onto the ground and quickly put your gun on him. You heard the radio turn on and it was Jay. "Y/N? Location,"
You removed one hand off the gun to talk answer Jay. "Half way down the street in an alleyway,"
A few moments later, Jay appeared and walked up to you two and put handcuffs on the suspect. "Now whose the one playing superhero?"
You put your gun away and laughed.
------
You knocked on Jay's door about an hour after you left work today. Jay opened the door and instantly grabbed you and pulled you into the house egar to finish what you started that morning.

To be honest, I wasn't originally interested in the film either, but my parents really wanted to watch it for some reason and we usually watch films together (old habit from the time when they'd come home at like 7 pm and I was a kid so I needed to go to sleep at 9, so we used those 2 hours we had together to watch a film), and again I was kinda surprised that I liked it at least to some extent. Especially considering that the people behind it made Hereditary, and not to hand an L to myself but I don't like that film either.
I do think that the scene may have just been disorienting even in context. Possibly on purpose. The approximate layout of some parts of thee cult can be seen in a few scenes, I believe, but I'm unsure if the building where the rape happens was shown before.
Also, Les Affamés sucks ? That's a real shame because I literally have it sitting in my Downloads folder, just waiting for the right evening to watch it. I thought it'd slap because the premise sounded interesting, I love French horror movies (there's just something about them. A certain je ne sais quoi.), and I love zombie flicks. I'm kinda disappointed to hear that nothing happens in the film lol.
thank you, yeah it could be a conscious choice to make it somewhat disorientating, it would fit with the themes if it was.
yeah I hated Les Affamés - iirc it's not French, it's Canadian (it's in French because Canada, but it's not from France). I love a good zombie film, but I shit you not for a fuck tonne of the film there's no talking, no background music, no action, nothing, just sad looks between people. the zombies barely play any role. the mousetrap scene is eery, but otherwise it was just dad jokes, dull conversations, silence, and this sense that it was trying to be poignant but it hadn't put in any of the work to actually say anything. it was the film equivalent of a man walking up to you in the pub and drunkenly whispering "I'm actually really deep and clever if you give me a chance" then silently staring you dead in the eyes until you start to wonder if he died of alcohol poisoning and you're staring at a corpse, until he whispers "see?" and you're like please go away now. it's like 1am and I'm sleepy, otherwise I'd recommend some zombie films that actually are deep and clever, the only one that springs to mind right now is La Nuit A Dévoré Le Monde/The Night Eats The World (which is actually French) and is really good, it's also slow paced but it earns its tension, gives you goosebumps, and is also enjoyable to watch. if you want something with a bit more action, Sweet Home is a Korean show about people turning into monsters not zombies, but it's the same vibe and it's very good.

That was definitely supposed to be censor. I swear I know the difference!
As long as it's for scientific purposes, I don't see the problem.
I don't think I could do a proper Xena yell. Plus, I wouldn't want to alarm anyone.
Shadow Haven! I downloaded it immediately when it was done. But I'm now the proud owner of the Kindle version. I actually haven't read your HP stuff because I don't go there at all. Sometimes, when the writing is good enough (and it definitely is with you), I'm tempted to read the stuff for other fandoms, but I never actually have.
Recognizing that you're being played is half the battle. Any regrets about teaching her yet? :] I'd be on the same boat. I am a sucker for a good pout. Luckily, my nephews have outgrown pouting and forgotten how effective it was on me.
I've heard of the second half of those games. So I'm not too out of touch (unless we both are, but I doubt that's the case). I played some zombie game for like an hour with some guy last month, and found I am terrible at games now. I used to not suck, at least.
Do you enjoy real fishing, too?
My day's been good; got a few things done, and did eat a chicken wrap. I only work weekends when there's some major event or emergency. Usually just a weekend out of the month.
How's your weekend going so far? Also, I like watching awful movies. Got any recommendations?
Good morning! (Just in time. It’s no longer morning in 13 minutes. But I was up super late so it was a good excuse to sorta sleep in.) Thank you for your purchase :P and I wouldn’t read my HP stuff. I deleted one story and the other isn’t finished, so not worth it! But if you ever want to venture out into another fandom I definitely do have good recs you absolutely should read.  And no, no regrets teaching my niece. I love her so much. She’s a handful and she’s about to turn thirteen. I’m scared! She’s getting really attitude-y. But my mom often reminds me that I was exactly the same at that age and she’s not wrong. Now if I can only make her stop playing Among Us when she’s facetiming with me while “she’s” doing her homework. But I figured that game out really quickly and I no longer freely provide her with answers :P I think the last time I went fishing was when I still went on holiday with my dad on the boat. So I must have been about eleven/twelve. That was a long time ago, lord. I do like it, though. I had my own rod and everything. I think I caught a fish once. I remember where it was and that the fish was really tiny and it was kind of a let down. And after that my little brother was born and I think he was more fun to take care of than the fish lol.  Zombie game? Dead by Daylight? I do not like zombies. Or scary games. Although Destiny 2 sometimes gives me a heart attack. Oh oh and Lara Croft games. Holy shit. The jump scares. Specially in the last game. I had to jump on a call with friends and I think I’ve screamed at them a lot. And I bet you’re not terrible, just takes some practice to get back into it. But also being good at it isn’t super important. Having fun is more important. But boy do I ever get wanting to be really good at gaming -.- Hm bad movies. I need more information. What genre? What genre to avoid at all costs? And when you say bad movies, do you mean Twilight bad or like The Last Airbender / Avatar bad?
