#flower game
Mixing it up a bit: what are some of the unique flower names, where only one character has been submitted with it?
I love your question. I picked the ones refering to real plants (and mushrooms they got a pass for this tournament) who were only used once (Ex : if 2 characters are named after the same plant, even if their names are different, none of them will be in this list - think Ran, Dendrobium and Orchid) because the list's already taking me forever
Disclaimer : I didn't include names such as Bulbasaur, Chloris, Myoudouin Itsuki (Cure Sunshine) and Ianthe/Iolanthe refering to non specific plants. Or imaginary plants for the matter (Mare, Elanor etc.)
Acerola, Shirona/Cynthia, Diantha, Gardenia, Grusha, Guzma, Hop, Kukui, Nemona, Plumeria, Elm, Magnolia, Sycamore from Pokémon
Aerith Gainsborough from Final Fantasy VII (justification by a submitter : Irit is Hebrew for asphodel flower and FF7 has Jewish related themes)
Althea from The Lightless Trilogy
Amanita Nightshade from Monster High (other submitted characters are named Nightshade but there's no other Amanita so far)
Aspen Leger from The Selection
Amaryllis "Rilla" of Exile from The Penumbra Podcast
Arsène Lupin III from Lupin III
Artemisia of Naimes from Vespertine
Asami Sato from Legend of Korra
Ashfur, Brackenfur, Gorse Fur from Warrior Cats
Black Dahlia from Skullgirls
Blackberry from Watership Down
Bluebear, Coco, Broccolo, Pecan, Tangy from Animal Crossing
Boa Hancock from One Piece
Cagney Carnation from Cuphead
Clementine from The Walking Dead
Cornflower from Redwall
Crocus from Greek Mythology
Cure Papaya and Cure Passion from Precure
Fennel Marlborough from Camp Here and There
Flox Pollimon from Fairy Oak
Foxglove from The Sandman
Fujiwara Zakuro from Tokyo Mew Mew
Geranium from I Was a Teenage Exocolonist
Goldenrod from The Mapmakers Trilogy
Hisagi Shuhei from Bleach
Hortensia from Fire Emblem
Ivy Muscade from Leif & Thorn
Jambu, Pineapple, Tamarin from Wings of Fire
Katniss from The Hunger Games
Kobayashi Matcha, Masaoka Azuki from Vocaloid

Prince Peasley from Super Mario
Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic) from Marvel's Fantastic Four
Natsume Ryuu from Paradox Live
Sash Lilac from Freedom Planet
Solanum from Outer Wilds
Sorrel from The Darkest Part of the Forest
Strelitzia from Kingdom Hearts
Tamar Kir-Bataar from the Grishaverse books
Tech-Acquisitor Scaevola from Warhammer 40,000 : Mechanicus
Thorn Estragon from Leif & Thorn
Honda Thoru from Fruits Basket
Twenty-Fifth Bam from Tower of God
Venus McFlytrap from Monster High
Viney from The Owl House
Yorigami Joon from Touhou Project
Zinnia from Pokemon (well now I have other Zinnias and probably a few other characters with the same names that the ones here but I nearly have 1400 submissions and it takes time to go through them and explanations for the ones I don't know the language of.
Ah and special mention to The Cabbage Man from Avatar : The Last Airbender. Look, I've never seen ATLA (I'm not into anime and not much into animation generally speaking) and neither has the submitter but I have to accept this one. I mean everyone knows this guy.

Pathologic classic and pathologic 2 are game of the year, decade and century.
On one hand, I'm now stress free (except for the fact that i also have to finish both Fear & Hunger titles, help).
On the other, how am I supposed to move on from all of this??? Not the first time a piece of media has left me a different person than i was before going through it, but it's the first time that, instead of touching my soul gently or shaking me by the shoulders a bit, it came into my house and beat the shit out of me with a baseball bat.
(good thing I'm playing Flower, Journey and a lot of Sky, to counterbalance.)
(also technically I'm also playing patho 2 again, after saying i wouldn't until the other two routes came out, bc i learned that the Russian plague voice is totally different and beautiful, and the American dub chickened out of it).

August was busy and very stressful. I'm in a transition period with a lot things in my life, and even though most of those changes are positive ones (for once), change is still hard for me to process. Add in a bit of family drama, and you get, well... stress. But this month was also full of video game favorites!
Mario Kart: Two new sets of tracks were finally added. Including some old favorites, like Waluigi Pinball and Mushroom Gorge! I haven't spent a huge amount of time with these tracks yet, as I've been busy with other games. But it's always great to have more track options!
Sims 2: I've been been busy with Sims again this month. But not so much with actually playing it? 😅 I've fallen into the rabbit hole of default replacements and just making my game look better and more consistent. As it often works with me, I started with what I thought would be a small project and it turned into a much bigger one. I'm giving my downloads folder a much needed complete revamp, after many, many years.
AI: Nirvana Initiative: My friend finished Nirvana Initiative, and I'm already missing watching him play. The game was maybe not quite as strong story-wise as the first, but it was still gripping and fascinating the whole way through. And the epilogue presented a very interesting premise for a potential third game.
PS5: Best (or most exciting) thing for last? I got a PS5! I'd been looking for one for months, but could only find expensive bundles until getting an invite from Amazon. I don't have many games for it yet; it was mostly an investment in my gaming future. 😆 But to my surprise, I was able to transfer all of my games and saves from my PS4. So, I've been trying out a lot of old favorites and games I'd never gotten around to playing. Spelunky 1&2, Rogue Legacy, Loco Roco, Flower, Abzu, and the beautiful Unravel - among others. The system transitions between games very smoothly, though I'm still getting used to the new UI.
Music Favs: Yours (Now, Now), Melt (SHAED), Lovers (Late Night Alumni), Under the Sheets (Ellie Goulding).

But this was the first time in weeks that Barry had woken up feeling safe. So he was quite certain he’d made the right choice. And since it was officially too late to put a stop to this, that was likely a good sign.
From a ColdFlash WiP S1 AU where Barry figures out that Dr. Wells is either in league with the Reverse Flash or is the Reverse Flash and teams up with Snart and the Rogues to fake his death. It's part of a larger plot to defeat Eobard and Barry has a much better relationship with the Rogues than he did in canon. And Len is the leader of the Rogues (like he should have been *grumble grumble*) so it'll have Lisa, Mick, Axel, Hartley, and various others show up too. I haven't finalized the Rogue line up here, but it'll be fun to figure that out.
Might sneak in some Hartmon + Hartley~Lisa and Cisco~Lisa QPR too since I'm a sucker for that dynamic between the three of them.

What Stray Could Have Been
When I first saw the trailer for Stray in summer 2020, “That’s definitely a Casey game” was the general sentiment. I was stoked: Journey, Flower, and Abzu were among my favorite games, and this moody cyberpunk atmosphere that a cat could slink its way around seemed destined to be another of my all-time favorites.
But then it wasn’t.
Stray is a game where you play as a cat separated from its pack and thrust into an underground city devoid of humans. The simple cat-things that can happen (knocking things over, navigating obstacles and tight spaces with ease, and scratching for example) creates a unique perspective that drew massive amounts of hype leading up to the game’s release, but I was surprised to find how quickly the developers show their hand, even for a six-hour game.
Don’t get me wrong, Stray isn’t a bad game. I enjoyed it enough to start and finish the main story on release and go back a couple weeks later to finish the platinum. The upbeat music, gloomy but hopeful atmosphere, and mystery of the game and its world kept me playing. What took me out of the game all too often was the slog of dialogue boxes spoon-feeding me the lore and story. I felt myself rolling my eyes every time a random robot explained something inferred by the world itself. I almost felt disrespected as a player when the game decided the mystery of humanity’s downfall didn’t need to exist, and that dialogue was the best course of action.
My immediate comparison is Flower. Similar in runtime, Flower allows the music, atmosphere, and gameplay itself to convey the story of a changing environment and human impact. Stray toes the line between visual and not with significant sections conducted without dialogue. This is where the game shines the brightest. The impact several scenes and interactions could have been much greater without the tiny pest circling the feline protagonist. Doc’s library, where the dead robot sits hunched and covered in books, Zbaltazar’s character and the micro-story of what happens when the persuit of knowledge and preservation overcomes one’s humanity, and so much of Midtown that works as a comparison to coping with loss. There are so many small things that would have meant so much more if the player was allowed to just experience the game visually like Flower, and not be directly told of it’s metaphor. I wonder if the developers were so excited about their work in world building they thought they just NEEDED to explain it all, leaving no room for the player’s imagination to take what was given and run.
It was frustrating for me to play through this game knowing it could have been so much better. I wanted this game to be one of my favorites. But I couldn’t do it; Stray draws near perfection with it’s attention to detail in atmosphere, sound design, and playability, but the experience of the game is lost in the stream of annoying text boxes that, to me, indicate a lack of trust between developer and player.

For three flowers, there shall be three answers. :D
“I can't just do nothing when I see people suffering!”
“It was a tree!”
~ Yuri Lowell and Rita Mordio from the next fic in the Ripple Effect series
Yuri knows about the existence of Spirits, so he knows that the tree was more than just any tree or unusual blastia barrier - it's the home of the first naturally occurring Spirit in Terca Lumireis. But thanks to the timeline reset, Rita doesn't know that. (It's also possible that Estelle's power caused the Spirit to be born and thus Yuri mimicking that event in the new timeline caused the Spirit to be born in the new timeline. I'm still debating this.)
I'm think I know why I'm stuck on this fic, however, so I'm gonna scrap what I've got and start over. But these lines? I want to keep these lines.
Instead, Cisco was finally having the time to return to some of his pet projects. Which would have been nice, if Hartley hadn't decided that, with Harry gone, he should start showing up every day to invade Cisco's lab.
~ From a WiP intended as a more serious take on the body swap trope
I had the initial idea for this fic a while back when I wrote A Friday Flip. But I knew that a silly take on the prompt would be faster to write than a more serious view on it. This one won't be a short swap, but they'll be stuck in each other's bodies until they can track down the right meta to swap them back.
It hasn't gotten far yet; right now it's set post S2. But I might rework what I've got to set it post S4. I'm not sure if this'll be a long fic or a series of fics yet either. It's still percolating in my brain I guess.
But a few things I know for certain - Hartley already has feelings for Cisco already, which is why he's been turning up to annoy Cisco in person. Cisco does not cope well with Hartley's enhanced hearing at all. Hartley freaks out the first time he experiences one of Cisco's visions. Both of them have to exchange health information to ensure the continued good maintenance of their respective bodies.
"The timeline tends to be extra malleable around speedsters. Due to changes made by both the Reverse Flash and the Flash, your personal timeline has been altered quite drastically."
~ Legends of Tomorrow's Gideon from a WiP in The Legendary Hartley Rathaway series
Hartley was curious as to why Rip didn't know he was with Team Flash when Rip has access to all the info about the timeline the Time Masters could fit into a ship the Waverider's size and Gideon tells him. Barry actually classified Hartley's current timeline with the original Gideon, so all Gideon type AIs created from her - which are what the Time Masters' ships have installed - have hidden his timeline from the Time Masters.
This is basically the first hints of the chess game Barry's playing with the Time Masters where he's basically making Hartley the 'queen' on his side of the board.
