Mosquito Bites - short scene

a small scene that’s probably going to be put into a larger series i’m still thinking about... let me know your thoughts.

Turning your head from side to side you examined yourself carefully in the bathroom mirror. Wine stained blossoms were creeping from your collar bone to below your jaw. You sighed, touching them gently.

“It’s a damn good thing my mother isn’t here Billy Hargrove...” you huffed drying your hair and leaving the room to look for a shirt.

“And why’s that?” he mused, flicking his cigarette out the open bedroom window.

Rummaging around in your drawers you found the top you wanted slipping your arms into it.

“Because there’s not a chance in hell I’d slip past her looking like this.”

He licked his lips thoughtfully looking you over, lounging among your pillows.

“–––let alone smelling like you.” You added.

He grinned wickedly.

“Mommy’s good little girl isn’t so sneaky, hm?”

He quickly rose from the bed, pulling your t-shirt from your arms and tossing it aside.

“Don’t start.... I just showered...” you whined pathetically.

The space between you two was closing quickly and soon your options for escape would be nonexistent.

About to turn and run, he caged you in his arms looking positively smug.

You looked up at him with the biggest doe eyes you could muster.

Your final plea.

“Billy... school is in thirty minutes.”

“Fuck’em.”

“But....”

His lips were on yours.

Game over.

He was drawing you in, biting your bottom lip harshly, a low rumble in his chest egging you on.

You clasped your hands desperately to his biceps, you were fading fast already.

“Billy....” you whimpered.

The day was going to be shot.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK!

“Hey kiddo, it’s me! Just checkin’ in! Got some grub!”

Billy looked at you quizzically.

“Hopper” you manage to puff out.

You grabbed his wrist shoving him into your closet.

“Quiet.”

You quickly got dressed and answered the door.

“Hey...” you said meekly looking up at the adult.

“How’s it going kiddo?” He stepped inside and placed a brown paper sac on the kitchenette counter.

“Good. Settling in.”

He nodded, his eyes scanning the small apartment in approval.

“Glad to hear.”

He started walking towards the bedroom.

“So... Hopper —!” you croaked loudly, blocking the bedroom doorway.

He stared over your shoulder curiously at the messy layout.

“Is there any reason you came by... or can I just see you at the station later? School starts soon.”

He crossed his arms, running his hand over his mustache in thought.

“Yuh, I s’pose. Nothin’ big is happening. I need you to come in a bit earlier to run the phones. Flo is out this week.... her daughter just had a baby.”

You nodded. “No problemo.”

He looked at you suddenly worried. His chest bulging. “What are those?”

“What?” you asked dumbly.

“Those....” he pointed to your neck.

“Mosquito bites” you said, slapping a hand over them.

“Mosquito bites” he repeated in disbelief... “In April.”

You laughed nervously, “yeah I’m like candy... to ‘em. Can’t get enough of me.”

The clothing hangers in your closet shifted.

Hopper craned his neck into your room, “what you got in there?”

You started shoving him back towards the front door.

“That? The top shelf is unstable, falls out sometimes... no biggie.”

He looked over his shoulder at you.

“I could fix that for you...”

“Nah I’ll have the super do it. Hopper I have to get to school!”

“Right.”

He grabbed his keys off the counter as you wrenched open the front door.

“I’ll see you this afternoon.”

You hastily waved and slammed the door.

“Mosquitoes huh?” Billy mused.

You jumped.

“Shut it...” you grumbled, a blush settling across your cheeks.

“Like caaaaandy...” he drawled grasping at you.

Before he could grab you, you pinned the bag of breakfast sandwiches to his chest.

“School. Now....”

The rest of the day went by without incident.

That was until after school.

You were waiting with Billy. Max wasn’t out for another couple minutes.

“You’ve caused me so much trouble today...” you looked over at him as he lit up, arm hanging out the driver’s window.

He lolled his head over to look at you, a small smirk pricking his lips.

“Not such a good girl after all....”

You inhaled sharply, looking away.

Thank God. Max!

“Hey Max! How’s it hanging?” you said with immense relief.

“Hey!” she tossed her skateboard in and climbed into the backseat.

You smiled happily.

Max gasped audibly. “What the hell happened to you?”

You turned in your seat, picking your brain for a believable answer.

“Well it’s a––”

“Mosquito bites...” Billy said cooly, starting the engine and peeling from the parking lot.

Your face flushed bright red as you sunk back into your seat.

“Gnarly...” Max replied.

Can you do a post about how Greta invited Carson on the date with the dude to chaperone and then Bev added Shirley to keep it “appropriately non-sexual” because she knew that Carson was not a non-sexual entity to Greta.

I’m also confused about Flo. Bev said there was an “attachment to a woman in town” as though if Jo wasn’t with Flo when she was caught then Jo wouldn’t have been traded?

Hmm ok, I have like *thoughts* on these but not entirely certain ones if you know what I mean?

So first with the Carson chaperoning thing, while yeah its funny to joke about Bev knowing they were a thing the entire time and making Shirley go along to chaperone them (I have literally made this exact joke lol), I'm not actually convinced of how accurate that is. I go back and forth on how much Bev is actually aware and that's mostly because Bev is so fucking good and hiding how she actually feels.

So like, the first thing to really remember here is that at the point when Greta goes on that date, she and Carson aren't actually even a thing yet. They had that one kiss in the closet of the bar. They have little gay moments in the second episode but nothing really suspicious to anyone that might be watching. When we get to the point were Bev actually tells Greta about the date, they didn't even have their little stargazing moment during secret practice yet (which Bev wouldn't know about anyway). Still, Bev's reaction when telling Greta about it is kinda interesting. After she says he was "a man with a shirt," she says this next line.

When she says this, she immediately looks at Carson (who had been making sad faces since the mention of Greta going on a date with some guy) and more or less says that its just for the sake of the team's publicity. Now, yes you can read into this and be like "oh she's telling this to Carson because she wants to reassure her because she knows about her and Greta" but Carson and Greta are not a thing yet. I cannot emphasize that enough. So at the very least, she assuring Carson (and Greta) that this is something just done to help the Peaches' image.

But....why would she reassure Carson? They aren't going to make Carson go on dates. She's married. So you can either read into it that she suspects something is going on, or you can conclude there's some other reason. Like, I don't know, I'd be kinda weirded out if I was on some sports team and my teammates were just being set up on dates they had to go to, regardless of whether or not I was dating said friends. It isn't unreasonable for Bev to just see Carson there and try to make the whole scenario less weird, regardless. But also, she might have picked up on some tension between them.

So when we get to the part where we see Greta about to go on her date and she's just finished getting ready, there's this fun little detail:

This room? The one that she's hanging out in before the date and acting like she's just finishing up at the dresser? That's Carson's room, not Greta's.

The nightstand has Shirley's humidifiers and is where the dented cans scene happens later on. I also might be obsessed enough to know the layout and door positions of the various rooms, but that' normal and not weird and also while you see Maybelle, Jo, and Shirley on Shirley's bed, you see Carson in the background putting away her clothes in her dresser.

It's not necessarily super weird for Greta and the other girls to be chilling in Carson's room before the date because 1) it's also Shirley's room and they seem to be hanging out with Shirley, and 2) Greta's room as an attaching door to Carson and Shirley's. But its stilll....something. And Bev doesn't seem all that curious about the fact that she found Greta in there getting ready for her date.

She does however offer an interesting excuse for getting out of the date:

I've seen this pointed out before, that it seems a bit strange for Bev to be getting a period still. If we assume she's the same age as her actor, then she'd be 60, which would put her well past the typical age of menopause. It isn't technically impossible for a 60 year old to still have a menstrual cycle, but its very unusual and I think its supposed to be. I mean, even the girls look a confused when she says this:

Regardless of what she has going on, I think this is a lie and I think that Bev at the very least doesn't want to go on the fucking date. I also think that there's a very good possibility that she was trying to give Greta an out here too. Because she says they're going to postpone the date, but more likely than not it'd just end up being canceled all together, or there could be some other reason not to go by then.

So Jo offers to go and Greta tells her no and volunteers Carson instead and there is WEIRD TENSION THERE. Now, I don't think that Bev would necessarily think "Oh they're definitely fucking" at this point, and I repeat myself by pointing out that she and Carson were not even actually together yet. However, there is some clear tension there. Carson doesn't want to go and seems bothered by this whole thing. Greta wants her to go and volunteers her for it and comes up with reasons why she'd be perfect. Carson is still visibly bothered by this and Greta clearly sees that.

So let's analyze who the fuck Bev is saying what to!

In the first shot when she's telling them to take Shirley, she's looking sort of in the middle of the room. Addressing everyone really, which is how she speaks during most of this scene. When she adds the "safety in numbers" comment, she looks at Carson, who is off to one side of the room by herself. This might be an excuse to either reassure Carson about her discomfort with the situation or to have a reasonable explanation as to why Shirley should go too.

When she says specifically the words "appropriately non-sexual," Bev looks directly at Greta and ever so slightly smirks.

So I don't know for sure here that Bev knows what is going on with them, like specifically. But I am 100% convinced that before Bev walked into this room, she knew Greta was a bit fruity and she at least suspects that she's into Carson. Whether or not she suspects Carson is queer too or knows that they've already started to develop a relationship, I have no idea. At the very least, I think she sees Greta trying to take her little crush along on their publicity stunt, so she makes Shirley go along as a precaution.

Not because I think she suspects that Carson or Greta would like, do anything during the date necessarily, but mostly to be like "look you can bring your crush along if it makes you feel comfortable but don't get too distracted because this is a publicity move after all." Shirley is there to remind Greta that actually this isn't a date, this is just her charming a guy to make the Peaches look good.

Now about the Flo and Jo situation, I think one thing that a lot of people on here fail to really grasp is how much danger Jo is in if she stays in Rockford, regardless of Flo.

When Bev explains what happens, she does so to Carson, alone, and there seems to be some interesting double speak going on here.

So let's be absolutely clear what Bev is saying. Not only did she bribe the police not to publish Jo's name in the paper, but she also made sure that she charges were dropped and that the league has no idea about any of this. She didn't "save the league from humiliation," she saved Jo from being outright kicked out of the league which is absolutely what would have happened if anyone in charge found out about this. Because her name isn't in the paper and the charges were dropped, they have no way of finding out unless someone tells them and Bev straight up paid off the police not to do that. And she is absolutely risking her own neck here, because she would get sacked so fast if they found out she did this.

And she's just...telling all of this to Carson.

It could be because she's the coach, sure, but she's tried to hide information from Carson before. I definitely think there's more to it than that. I think that is an indication that she knows about Carson at this point. I think she also probably suspects some other things too because, in case you failed to notice this, Carson and Greta are still wearing the exact same clothes they were wearing last night.

And here they are the next morning when Jo gets brought in by the police:

I find Bev someone who tends to pick up on things rather well, even if she chooses to ignore them, and I don't think she would overlook the fact that on the same night Jo got arrested during a raid on a gay bar, Carson and Greta are creeping around the house late at night/early in the morning and haven't even changed their clothes to indicate that they slept at all. I also don't think she failed to notice that Lupe and Jess were missing too.

If she wasn't already aware of Carson at this point, I think this would have tipped her off completely, because she is somehow connected to Greta on the same night something seems to have happened to all of the known queer Peaches. I guess Esti is also gone too, but regardless, Bev would have had to known that something was going on at this point, because she had already bribed the police and arranged for Jo to be brought back and traded at this point, and it's apparently pretty early in the morning.

So let's look at the rest of what she tells Carson about Jo now.

Jo being connected to Flo, would put her at greater risk, yes. If people who knew Flo found out about this and didn't like it, they could come after Jo. But Jo wasn't gonna be safe in Rockford regardless. Because if she did, too many people still knew about her. The police knew and individual cops might target her or the Peaches in the future regardless of them as a whole being paid off. Not to mention anyone those cops might tell. People who saw the raid go down might know. In general, it just wouldn't have been safe for Jo in Rockford, because even if her name wasn't published or she wasn't charged, people still know she was there. Hell, someone who's name DID get published might reveal her. Gays don't have to be good people, especially if someone thought she got away with something because she's a celebrity

So why does Bev bring this up? Because she's warning Carson. She might know that Carson is with Greta specifically or she might just have picked up context clues to realize that Greta and Carson were at the bar too. They might not have been there as a couple though. They could have all just been fellow homos going to find local girls together. Regardless, she's telling Carson to be fucking careful about being attached to people in this town. Because its dangerous and if you get caught, you'll probably have to leave for your own safety. Surely you agree.

A Beautiful Chaos

Pairing: Florence Pugh X Fem! Reader.

Summary: You & Florence are in the planning stages of your wedding, with the help of Flo’s family, it can’t be that hard…right?

“I like the Chocolate Raspberry Truffle!” Toby expressed his interest. “The Caramel Apple is too good to pass though!” said Raffie. “Ooo but that Southern Hazelnut Praline is to die for!” Arabella smiled before pinching another tester. “Guys, we only need 1 cake so I guess we need a vote out of the 3” Florence spoke standing at the head of the table. “Mum, Dad, what’re your thoughts?” she asked.

“Choc raspberry is wining it for me,” Clinton said, placing his teaspoon on the small plate. “I have to do with the hazelnut” Debra added on. “Well then, I guess that just leaves us babe” you smiled at Florence. You both tried the 5 cake samples you’d brought home. All tasted so good but as Florence said, you only needed 1 cake for your wedding. Personally, you liked the chocolate raspberry truffle, maybe because you were secretly a chocoholic or maybe because raspberry was one of your favourite fruits. You waited for Florence to finish taste testing before saying anything. “I’m torn between the caramel apple or the chocolate raspberry” she groaned, looking at the cakes and thinking further about her choice. “Well, I’m all for the choc raspberry” you spoke. “Well, that’s settled!” Raffie jumped up from her seat, “I guess it is” Florence smiled, “Chocolate Raspberry it is!” she added.

Choosing your cake was just 1 of the many things that needed to be done before the wedding. Florence still hasn’t picked out a dress so most of her day was spent with Raffie, Arabella & her mum dress shopping while you’d already picked out your dress (or suit). You wanted this day to be as perfect as possible. You could marry her at a gas station and it would still be perfect in your eyes but she deserved the whole package.

“Have you guys looked at the menu ideas I gave you?” Raffie asked, looking at the pair of you. “We did!” Flo walked over to the kitchen countertop, “We wrote down the ones we would like” she added, placing the notepad in the centre of the table. Florence loved the idea of her whole family being involved in the wedding. Her dad gave you the details of a few chefs that would be available, Toby requested that he’d perform a few songs for you guys, Raffie and Arabella were bridesmaids, Raffie had already called shotgun on this when she and Flo were younger. While Debra and Clinton wanted to watch the big event from the front row. Your family and close friends joining them.

“You guys want a Waffle table?! I love that!” Raffie laughed as she read the notepad, Florence turned to you, confused, “A waffle table? Really babe?” she smirked. “What?! I like waffles” you smiled raising an eyebrow. “I’ll give this to David,” Clinton said as Raffie handed him the notepad. David is the chef you guys decided on.

Months of planning turned into weeks, everything being slightly stressful. Flowers still haven’t been ordered, Florence still couldn’t decide on a dress, guests were calling every few hours to RSVP, the venue was booked and the honeymoon was still being planned.

“What if we put this table here and that table there?” Toby suggested as you all sat at the table working out the venue layout. “Yeah but then there’s no room for the kid section” Raffie added. It was often rare that you and Florence were sharing your thoughts during debates. Both of you sat back watching the mini arguments unfold before Florence would spend in. “Do you think if we snuck upstairs they’d notice we left?” you whispered to Florence who was watching Toby and Raffie re-drawing layouts on scrap paper. “I don’t even think they’d notice if we didn’t show up to the wedding” Florence sarcastically said with a laugh.

“What’s funny now?” Raffie’s eyeshot up at you and Florence. “Nothing” you smiled. Florence grabbed some scrap paper and draw a layout that she thought would work well. “Flo, if we put the gift table there we lose dance floor space” you rolled your eyes sarcastically as Toby and Raffie looked at Flo’s drawing. “This actually makes sense” Toby sat back in his chair. Florence laughed lightly before getting up and walking into the kitchen.

Soon enough, weeks tuned into a single digital count down. You and Florence stood in the kitchen, behind the large island, watching as her family argued over small things, things you and Florence no longer worried about. “I can’t believe in 6 long days, I can finally call you my wife” Florence spoke as you placed your left arm around her waist. “Mrs Y/l/n-Pugh” as a great ring to it” you replied, kissing her cheek. “God, I hope they aren’t this crazy when we decide to have kids” she added, “Hey, let’s just deal with one beautiful chaos at a time,” you said watching a small form on her lips.

Hello hello! Heres just a lil teeny Idea I had to spice up this years December. How about we do some Advent Prompts? first week of 2023 update: thinking i dont have the energy to make a 2022 wrapped and now, im trying to look back at what the past year has brought me and im realizing, things didn’t really went as I had planned? but:

▪︎ we have a baby 👶🏻 on the way!

im gonna be honest: having a baby on our first year wasn’t the initial plan. to me, it’s a huge responsibility financially and physically because you have to be available and mentally aware all time and i thought i still wasn’t ready for that. our plan for 2022 is to enjoy our time together and travel given that we weren’t able to do that for the 11 long years we dated because I have extremely strict parents who were very much concerned about us having our time alone. i was only 16 when joshua and i met so I understand where they’re coming from but they didn’t ease up until im 27 😂 so we just complied. until May of 2022, after already being married for few months and after my Zambales trip with friends, we got curious and tried some baby-making ways we read on blogs. the next thing I know, I was already pregnant! although it wasn’t what we planned at all, the fact that we didn’t struggle on this aspect is a huge deal for us (!!) because we know a lot of married couple who finds it hard to conceive

▪︎ our little space now's looking more homey than when the year started

we got married on November of 2021, started living together in a small condo-like space by totally revamping an apartment rental to our liking; a space their family had already owned because we didn’t want to rent and we feel like paying a rent for years just equates to revamping the whole unit in a different layout. revamping took a lot of our money from the tiles we used, to ventilation, etc. so on our first month, we moved into an empty space with an old bed from when Joshua was still a binata, a small fridge passed on to us by his elder brother who moved out and a semi-working fan.

ᵒⁿ ᵗʰᵉ ˢᵃᵐᵉ ᵐᵒⁿᵗʰ ᵒᵘʳ ᵈᵒᵍ ᴺᵃⁿᵃ ʰᵃᵈ ᵗᵒ ᵘⁿᵈᵉʳᵍᵒ ᵃ ˢᵘʳᵍᵉʳʸ ˢᵒ ᵗʰᵃᵗ ᵏᶦⁿᵈᵃ ˢʷᶦᵗᶜʰᵉᵈ ᵒᵘʳ ᵖʳᶦᵒʳᶦᵗᶦᵉˢ

▪︎ we've survived our 1st year being married

Joshua and I dated for 11 years but there’s still a lot I learned when we started living together. the first months were fun but also chaotic because we both had to adjust to each others norms

▪︎ and lastly, we only have 7 months left credit dues to pay

from the wedding, to putting up together a small space of our own, to now, preparing for our little flo, the expenses were no joke as someone who resides in the Philippines. we have saved up an amount for the wedding but later on learned we will be needing more so we had to take up a loan and use some credit to finish our home project before we move in. this is probably the first time im in debt. i had no experience handling an entire household money before because before all these, i used to live with my parents and have never tried living alone. also, im quite festive and i like to celebrate wins but we really had to simplify few events and stick to a plain lifestyle by the end of the year to hit our saving goals. so it's a 🤝 for me to be able to survive this year financially while at the same time, being extra for our coming baby

ᵒᵘʳ ᵈᵉᶜᵉᵐᵇᵉʳ ²⁵ ˢᶜᵉⁿᵉ ⁹ᵃᵐ ᵃⁿᵈ ˢᵗᶦˡˡ ˢˡᵉᵉᵖᶦⁿᵍ

pangalawang pasko namin, december 2022, sa mahigit isang taong pagsasama sa isang bahay. tahimik, malamig at naghihintay ng batang malinggit na aming lalaruin sa huling dalawang buwan ng pagbubuntis ko

ang labas ng bahay, walang aborloloy o kahit anong palatandaang naghanda kami para sa pasko. sa loob, mayroon lamang maaabutang maliit na christmas tree na may kaunting regalo sa mga inaanak na tila nagsasabing, “ito lang muna” dahil hindi man lamang ang mga ito umukupa ng malaking espasyo
