ok but tell me why Flipper looks so damn sick all the time, he is just a poor victorian boy who has a bad immune system okay

On a roll today with Bumswiftery thoughts
So obviously no one can be a newsie forever. You get too old, you can't stay in the lodge anymore no matter how many blind eyes Kloppman is turning to anyone.
So you need some idea what you want to do, and Bumlets has had it ever since Flipper has been coughing more and more, looking sick almost all the time. Maybe living in the countryside isn't a perfect solution, but he's sure it would help at least a bit and promises the kid they'd get out eventually, leave the city, live near the coast. (As coughs wrack the frail boy with no real explanation once more, deep in the night. "I promise we'll get out there, Phillip. You'll feel better.")
It becomes even more real as he gets closer to Skittery, sees his episodes first hand. He becomes paranoid, thinks he's being watched and everyone is looking at him, no matter how unlikely. After one of those nights where Swifty had to hold him down so he wouldn't hurt himself - or others - or even run and Bumlets gently talked him down it's the same promise he makes ("Somewhere clean and green and pretty like Jack always says." "You can't tell me you believe in Santa Fe-" "Never said New Mexico. Something closer. Just somewhere with less people, with more freedom to be ourselves. Don't you think it could help?")
And it takes a while, even Tumbler and Flipper are almost aged out when Bumlets, Skittery and Swifty find the money from their new jobs to scrape enough together to make it, but they do.
A while later they find a mostly broken little farmhouse in Pennsylvania, they can afford it, if barely, and start living as self-sufficient as they can. Eventually there are chickens, sheep, a vegetable garden and fields, though Swifty finds out he's allergic to hay and mostly keeps to the garden and herding the sheep. And, eventually, hunting. He has a steady hand and there was a day where he noticed that he's sitting at home, sewing, fixing clothes, tending to the garden, while the others are on the field and he wanted to feel more useful less like a housewife and went out. (Sometimes the comments from the townspeople, jokes about how one of them needs to do all the woman's chores get to him more than he lets on)
They don't go to the market often, but when they do they try to stick together. Skittery's paranoia is better, most days, now that there are less people, but one can never be sure. They get a cat (on Tumbler's insistence, he names her Skittles, you'll never guess who she reminded him of) and a dog, as per Flipper's request, for herding the sheep.
Most days it is great, most days they are happy, sometimes get visits from Kit and Kat (who missed Flipper and Tumbler), sometimes Spot comes with them to make sure they aren't any trouble (and if he's already there why not bring Race). But there are always bad days, no matter how well your intentions are.
It starts with Skittery more closed off than usual, clearly agitated by something. At a tiny argument about where to store some milk he snaps that they never truly love him and that they would eventually get tired or pretending to take care of him out of pity. Of playing house with him when they clearly hate him.
The glass breaks and Bumlets, probably more harsh than he should have says. ("Vincent, clean that, I-" But he doesn't get farther as Swifty snaps as well. "I'm not your housewife. Ask me normally or do it yourself. I'm tired of... maybe Michael is right, maybe this is all just us playing something.")
They both storm off, Swifty in his sewing room - Bumlets can hear things breaking - and Skittery somewhere outside. Wondering for a second what he'd done, he runs outside, first seeing Flipper and Tumbler on the stairs, snapping at them to go to their room, then seeing Skittery go into the woods. He has to go after him, it's dangerous, it is getting dark but-
He halts near the barn, suddenly overwhelmed. He sinks to the ground, breath getting erratic.
Bumlets is tired of chasing after them, keeping everything together. He's exhausted.
But he loves them, punching the ground in frustration before collapsing even further, sobs wracking his body.
What if he only brought them pain, what if his great idea only hurt all of them in the end?
(Flipper later comes out to try and calm him down while Tumbler goes into the woods to find his brother. Bumlets goes, with Flipper, back into the house and first talks to Swifty, then they set out into the woods to find Skittery afterwards)
Whoops, more Angst

Newsie: Flipper
Actor: Brian Friedman
Flipper is a young Newsie who goes by many names.
He wears oversized clothing that are in mostly greys and purple. He has red suspenders under his vest.
He's been called Slider,
Blanket,
Crazy Legs (only acknowledged by the actor),
and Patrick.
But he's probably best known as Flipper because of his dramatic hair flips.
Flipper has three Newsie big bros looking out for him:
The first is Jake, who teaches him dance moves such as enthusiastic skipping and imaginary lassoing.
The second is Bumlets, who gives him hair styling and hair care advice.
And the third is Kid Blink, who always has a shoulder for him to lean on.
Bumlets shows the pecking order by pushing Flipper down a stair.
Flipper loses a sword fight to Les. The winner gets a head smoosh from Dave.
Round two goes on in the back. Who needs Dave, when you have three adoptive brothers of your own?
Without his three bros to guide him,
Flipper is picking fights,
getting dragged around by Crutchy,
climbing onto statues,
and passing out on the job from staying up past his bedtime reading the comics section of The World.
What do you call this Newsie? Personally I like Blanket the most, but I went with Flipper because it's the name he's commonly known as.

Melody’s Movie Reviews #1: Newsies (1992)
Hey guys. Welcome to the very first post of Melody’s Movie Reviews.
Today, I’m going to be reviewing Newsies (1992). Yes, the original movie version with Christian Bale. I watched for the first time at the beginning of the year and I enjoyed it. And then, I watched it again just four months ago
Here were my exact thoughts while watching Newsies (1992):
Hearing Max Casella’s voice at the opening really made me excited.
I felt so bad for all these little boys sleeping on top of the statue without any shoes on their feet. It was pretty heartbreaking.
Boots is literally me when I don’t want to get up. All the boys are basically a mood for anyone who isn’t a morning person.
Me and my mom were watching this, and she was disgusted at the fact that Snitch had his feet on Itey’s face, and they were both dirty.
Christian Bale is adorable in this scene.
And of course, Snipeshooter takes Racetrack’s cigars for no reason. Ugh! Snipeshooter always gets on my nerves. No wonder he’s my least favorite!
Carrying The Banner starts playing and I’m loving every second of it. The choreography and the chemistry with the boys. It’s so obvious that all the boys vibed together in real life off-set, and that’s one of the thing I love about this movie.
Oh, geez, it’s those Delancey brothers. And they go picking on Snipeshooter for no reason. Snipeshooter isn’t my favorite, but he still doesn’t deserve it.
Racetrack really said “only I'm allowed to pick on Snipeshooter.”
Jack’s play-fight with the Delanceys is very entertaining to see. A
In this scene, we’re introduced to Davey and Les. I can already tell that I’m going to like this.
I love how these boys mock Wiesel by calling him Weasel.I would do the same thing.
Les is sooo cute when he sits next to Jack! And their interactions are really sweet!
I like how David doesn’t want anything to do with Jack at first, but Les instantly connects with him. Also, the part where Jack squishes his face is so cute!
Instantly as the newsies sell their papers, Pulitzer comes on the scene.
Even Seitz has more common sense in his little finger than Pulitzer and his cronies combined.
Oh, No! Here comes big jerk Snyder the Spider. My mom didn’t know why he was chasing Jack, so I had to explain it to her halfway.
Ann-Margaret is amazing as Medda. And I loved her interaction with Les. It’s so adorable!
Here’s where we meet the Jacobs family. I love how everyone takes a liking to Jack. And I especially love how he takes a liking to Sarah from the very beginning. Les singing “Lovey-Dovey Baby” in his sleep is so funny!
This is where Jack and Davey become friends. And this is where Santa Fe starts playing. And let me tell you how excited I was when that song played. 92sies has the best version of Santa Fe. Christian Bale didn’t have to go so hard, but he did!
I will never forgive Kenny Ortega for cutting out the lasso scene, especially since Christian worked so hard on it.
This is where The World Will Know starts playing. It’s a great song, and 92sies’ version is the best one! Everyone did such an amazing job!
This where we meet Bryan Denton, and he has such chemistry with David. Also, David is so adorable in this scene when he’s blushing!
I knew that Jack and Les would be kicked out the doors, but Jack is a badass as always in this scene. So is Les!
This is where we meet Spot Conlon for the first time. To be honest, I thought I was going to hate him, but then I instantly started to like him!
Les repeating “real hoity toity” is so freaking adorable. Matter of fact, everything he does in this movie is so adorable!
Seize the Day is just starting and I’m already pumped. David Moscow really went hard for this number! And he didn’t have any dance training at all!
The little newsies during Seize the Day are so cute! Especially Boots, Les, and Flipper!
Jack making faces at Weasel against the window never fails to make me laugh!
I was literally screaming when Crutchy got taken away to the Refuge.
I’ve only seen Ten-Pin for two seconds and I really don’t like him. The way he insulted ed Crutchy by calling him a g*mp is absolutely disgusting. Movie Jack didn’t take well to that! Musical Jack just called Crutchy a cr*p without any qualms!
Aaaannnnd here’s Big Jerk Snyder!
The boys singing during Seize The Day (Chorale) sound like a choir of angels, and I’m loving it. The choreography is absolutely amazing and it reminds me of Michael Jackson.
It’s so adorable how the little newsies made drums for this number.
Annnd here’s Spot Conlon and Brooklyn! I was clapping when they arrived!
I was cheering when they won and Denton took the picture!
This is when King of New York starts playing! The tap dancing is amazing, but I bet the costumers were thinking “Those kids are ruining the tables.”
I always skip this scene of the confrontation between Snyder and Crutchy because I can sence that something even worse is gonna happen.
Sarah and Jack didn’t even have that many scenes together, but they had more chemistry than musical Jack and Katherine did.
I really like Seitz. He knows that what Pulitzer is doing is wrong!
Ooh, the Rally scene (aka, the scene where everything gets real). And I was singing along during High Times, Hard Times. Also, seeing Medda with all the newsies was so entertaining to see! They’re just vibing!
Aaaand here comes Big Jerk Snyder, again. I can tell that things are gonna go wrong, again!
Seeing Racetrack being brutally attack made me so mad that I shouted out “NO! Leave Racetrack alone.” This scene pissed me off the first time I saw it!
Pulitzer and Snyder just piss me off already.
I can tell that Jack has been broken down during the Santa Fe reprise.
The scene where Jack scabs breaks my heart. Everyone is pissed off at Jack and Mush is more sad and heartbroken!
I really hate Weisel!
Jack kicking the Delanceys’ butts for messing with his girlfriend and his best friends made me root for him, even after he scabbed.
This version of Once and For All is a lot better and catchier, especially since there was no unnecessary electric guitar.
The way every working kid in New York came together, whether it be a chimney sweep, or a sweatshop kid, makes me very happy! It shows that child labor hurt everyone, not just the newsies.
That part where Jack nearly leaves for Santa Fe really got me!
And now Jack made Les cry!
Seeing Les cry was really heartbreaking! I would’ve hugged him and cupped his chubby cheeks!
Everyone’s just standing there waiting to get their papers and then suddenly, Jack comes back! And then he makes out with Sarah!
I love how Spot rode back to Brooklyn in a carriage!
Yeah, I love the movie version better than Broadwaysies and Livesies!

What do you think would be the full names of Skittery, Snipeshooter, Dutchy, Specs, Snoddy, Itey, Snitch, Snaps, Guttersnipe, Tumbler, Bumlets, Pie-Eater, Swifty the Rake, Sprinkles, Stick, and Flipper?
This is Sprinkles. @one-highfalutin-sonuva-gun and I named him!
And this is Stick, another newsie that @one-highfalutin-sonuva-gun and I both named!
Oh this is a great question, but I unfortunately don't have any thoughts about the names of the newsies. Snoddy is simply Snoddy, for example, and that's good enough for me haha. If my followers have any ideas tho, they're more than welcome to share them!

Help me!! Name this boy!!
Dramatic hair flip boy. He’s in a TON of scenes as a background character, and hangs out with Bumlets and Tumbler for most of his scenes. He even shows up to the strike before all the millions of kids do.
You’re like- the one who knows all the newsies. Please give this poor boy credit.
(And he sword fights with Les. At the beginning of Seize the Day. If that isn’t worthy of a name, I’ll eat my umbrella.)
Hey! Thank you for the accreditation. At first I thought you wanted to know if he had a name, which he very much does not. He doesn’t have a credited name, a Kenny-Ortega-made-this-official-later name, a he-had-a-name-in-the-formerly-known-as-Hard-Promises-script-draft-so-we’re-applying-that name, or even a common fan name! But today this changes.
I do believe that, after comparing some of the imdb photos of guys who were billed as Newsies Dancer, the actor’s name is Scott Caudill, if that’s what your looking for.
Otherwise, here is my process of thought for giving him a proper title:
They can’t call him Hair. That’s Bumlets’ thing.
Hair Flips is too much of a mouthful (though compared to Jake The Oyster it seems simple, I could not successfully see Jack Kelly ever calling someone that).
Flipz has a very 2009 ring to it.
Accounting for all of the above, I think we should dub him Flipper! Of course he’d end up getting called every form of that by the rest of the newsies, but I think it’s a suitable base name. What do you think?

STOP SCROLLING. READ THIS.

Imagine the Brooklyn boys, led by Spot Conlon, all shirtless and wearing flippers, high-step-rockin’ it down the docks like there’s no tomorrow as “Lay All Your Love On Me” from Mama Mia blasts in the background.

Keep scrolling.
Merry Christmas.

Imagine, the newsies put on a variety show :
(Are these all based on personal events? 100%)
Jack asks Medda if they can put on a variety/talent show in her theatre for fun with the reasoning "for the kids!". Medda agrees wholeheartedly and organises an evening for them all to preform.
Jack and the others continue to invite all of the adults who are either parental figures or are just vaguely nice to them, including Kloppman, Hannah, Seitz, the Bowery Beauties, Toby the Candy Butcher, Mr. Jacobi, Medda's stage hands, David's parents ect. Denton is entrusted with recording the show and takes his job very seriously. Racetrack even invited Wiesel as a joke and took bets to see if he came or not (he didn't but no one lost money on that)
Now for the acts :
• First up we have a rendition of Country Roads by John Denver led by Jack, featuring Kid Blink, Mush, Boots, Crutchie and Specs on several instruments (Mush borrowed Race's kazoo). They practiced until 3am the night before on their various instruments leading to Skittery dousing water on Jacks head the next day as revenge.
• Next, a play about the tellitubbies being murdered by their hoover, complete with ukulele music, starring the younger newsies aka Les (as the hoover) Ten Pin, Snipeshooter, Tumbler and Swifty. Sarah provided the ukulele music as the sun and Skittery played a tree in background because the younger newsies bullied him into it. (This is oddly specific for a reason lmao) Some adults were left with several questions afterwards.
• After that comes a very interesting rendition of "That's what makes you beautiful" by Bumlets, Itey, Dutchy, Snoddy and Snitch each preforming as a member of One Direction with name tags to signal who's who. (There was a very loud disagreement about who's be Harry last night. Let's just say Bumlets won)
• Now for David who kept saying he wouldn't participate but is reluctantly forced into it by Sarah, Jack and Les and continues to recite the Element Song flawlessly, surprising everyone. Didn't even need the lyrics, he's that good.
• Up next, a magic act starring Racetrack and Albert, as his lovely (begrudging) assistant! They weren't allowed to to saw Albert in half but did manage a pretty cool vanishing act, making all of the younger newsies ask for magic lessons and everyone else being equally astonished.
• After that comes Super Bass preformed by Smalls while Sniper plays Pachelbel's Cannon In D on the violin. (Smalls recited the clean version per Medda's request)
• Next up is Buttons doing a puppet act with puppets he made himself! His ventriloquist skills are pretty amazing, he even made a puppet of Pulitzer! (Katherine asked for a commissioned copy of him after the show, she couldn't get over how funny and well made it was)
• Now for the Brooklyn newsies. They do an ensemble performance featuring Spot, Long John, Hotshot, York, Myron, Bart, Rafaela, Joey and more. What they perform you may ask? Oh a little dance called "An Dreoilín". It's chaos. Race and Jack jump in towards the end (they also know the dance and song?) and soon everyone'd clapping along. If you haven't heard of it before, look it up on YouTube, the music is brilliant.
• After that comes Bill and Darcy and their own duet of the song "I am the Very Model of a Modern Major General" which they perform frighteningly well. Let's be honest, they sort of are Gilbert and Sullivan and have been waiting for ages to show this party trick off.
• Next up, Jingle Bell Rock but it's the Mean Girls version made even more interesting by Romeo, Jojo, Elmer and Finch. (Do I need to even say who's Regina?) We even have Medda dancing along pretending to be the "cool mom" and Jojo kicking the boom box over, meaning everyone starts singing along. It's the perfect recreation.
• Now for Jake and Pie-Eater doing impressions! Characters included : Jake impersonating Jack with a cheap sparkly cowboy hat (bought an hour before performing), muttering about Santa Fe for 3 minutes straight. Next was Pie-Eater pretending to be Kloppman and Jake as Skittery in the mornings having their banter. They took on requests such as the Delancey Brothers, Wiesel and even Spot (requested by Race. Pie-Eater had trained for this moment and did not disappoint) Jake and Pie-Eater spoke with the right cadences in their voices and perfect body language. Scary impressive stuff.
• Katherine next. She deadpan gets up and switches on her background music ; "We didn't start the fire" and sings it by memory. She makes sure to point at Spot and the rest of the Booklyn newsies when singing "Brooklyn's got a winning team" during the 7th verse. Absolutely deadly.
• Last but not least we have Henry, Mike, Ike, Tommy Boy, Splasher, Coffee Bean and Barney Peanuts performing a rousing version of "Lay all your love on me" from Mamma Mia, matching flippers and everything. Soon everyone's joined in and they all finish with singing "Dancing Queen" with Jack putting a little too much emphasis on the lyrics "only 17".
All in all, a successful evening with the promise from Denton they'll all get a copy of the show sent to them after he makes a few edits (I told you he took this seriously)
Did I do it? Did I mention all the newsies? Seriously, this was an exercise in how many characters I could remember.

The Slippery Slope: An Izzy Stradlin Fanfiction
Chapter 1: Penguin on a Leash
MASTERLIST
Story Summary: 6 Chapter mini series about Izzy meeting a biologists who works at the zoo. Takes place after his time with Guns an’ Roses
Izzy watched the penguins swim around in their habitat trying to understand what all the hype was about. Lafayette had fliers and banners advertising the new baby penguins that were born at the zoo only a couple of weeks before he moved back to his hometown. After quickly realizing that he had fallen into a rut since leaving Guns N’ Roses, he decided to mix things up and visit the zoo to see these overhyped penguins and alleged peaceful gardens that were pictured in half the advertisements he saw.
It was around 2 pm, and Poppy felt relief that there were no children tours on Fridays. Since it was slow she was granted the permission to take one of the injured penguins on a walk. This was without a doubt one of those moments when she was glad that she went to college.
“Yeah Phil, that’s where you will live once your flipper gets a little better,” Izzy’s attention was pulled from watching the penguins swim about when he heart the soft voice followed by some form of squawking and giggles.
“Yeah, and then once you are fully healed, you get to go back to Chile!” Izzy found the soft voice to be a girl, probably only a few years younger than him, talking to one of the penguins who she had on a leash. Maybe it would have been considered weird, but after touring with Guns, the bar for what was actually weird was high. Girl dressed in full wetsuit while walking around a penguin on a leash just wasn’t weird enough.
“What’s wrong with his flipper?” Poppy’s attention was pulled from her penguin when Izzy spoke. She sent a soft smile towards Izzy, just another zoo patron. She felt a sigh escape her as she quickly looked around to make sure they were alone.
“Poor thing was found cut up on a beach. We’re guessing that he got cut up by a piece of steel, but he is healing really well, such a trooper. I will be sad to see him go,” Izzy held onto every word as she spoke. It was clear that she loved her penguin friend. With her soaked hair and wetsuit, he wondered if she recent went swimming with the penguin.
“Did you two just come from a swim?”
Izzy felt a small smile grow on his face as she giggled at his question.
“No. Before this walk I was checking up on a Dolphin and Edward startled me causing me to fall into the water....I swear sometimes dolphins can be really rude,” Poppy fwlt small butterflies begin to flap their wings in her stomach. The nerves were beginning to soar.
Poppy smiled as Izzy listened to her go on and on about how their little zoo volunteered to help Phil the penguin get better. He was her pride and joy, and there was no doubt that she would be crying when he went back to the wild. They would be happy tears, but tears none the less.
Poppy was shocked when Izzy hadn’t started to show disinterest half way through her rambling. Little did she know that not only was Izzy actually interested, but he was also used to someone rambling about animals. The penguins were a good change from snakes.
“Do you only work with penguins?”
“No, I work with most of the water creatures here. I stay away from the reptile house, those snakes creep me out. I don’t trust them,” Poppy felt a shiver travel through her as she thought of the snakes, or danger noodles as she called them behind closed doors. It wasn’t professional for someone who had a doctorate in zoology to call snakes danger noodles...even if that’s what they were.
“I’m Poppy by the way,” she sent a warm smile Izzy’s way after silence filled the air in between them.
“Izzy,” Izzy reached out his hand and quickly shook Poppy’s wet hand. He was almost shocked she hadn’t recognized him.
“Is this your first time here in the zoo?” Poppy asked hoping to keep the conversation alive. He was definitely the quiet type, but she liked that. She also liked that he was incredibly hot.
“I haven’t been here for at least 15 years....” Izzy watched the penguin Poppy was walking look at the photos of penguins that hung on the wall for decoration. Izzy decided it was strange seeing a penguin outside of its inclosure, but he figured it was strange seeing a rockstar in a zoo.
“Well I have only been here for one year, but a lot has changed. I’m already giving Phil, my penguin buddy here, a tour...would you like to join us? It would help me look more normal because I would be talking to an actual human instead of just a penguin. All that I ask would be for you to help keep your eyes out for any zoo patrons. I’m supposed to be avoiding visitors,” she hoped, no prayed that Izzy would join her. It was clear that he wasn’t from around here by the way he dressed, and she wanted to know what type of cowboy wore a floppy hat like the ones they worse in the musical Newsies.
After a quick chuckle, Izzy replied. “Well you haven’t been very good about staying away from zoo visitors, so I think you could use the help.” Truth be told, Izzy almost said no, but there was something about her silver eyes that caught his attention.
Poppy spent the next couple of hours giving Izzy the most in depth tour she could. She wouldn’t admit it, but she was definitely showing off. She couldn’t remember the last time someone had listened to her ramble this much, and she was going to take full advantage of it. She could hear her mother in the back of her head lecturing her on how she was boring the poor boy to death, but whenever he asked a question or sent a small smile her way she pushed that thought to the back of her head.
Izzy quickly learned that he could listen to her talk about her animals all day. Her silver eyes appeared a little greener whenever she talked about them. Her cheeks would blush and the tips of her ears would turn a little red whenever she apologizes for rambling, but Izzy would always reassure her that it was fine. This only made her cheeks go redder. He had to admit, it was pretty cute.
“That ones name is Edward. He is the one who startled me this morning resulting in me falling into the water,” Poppy pointed at one of the larger dolphins in the far right corner.
“He is defiantly my favorite then,” Izzy teased while looking the aquatic beast up and down.
“Edward doesn’t seem like a dolphin name,” he added walking over towards the dolphin she pointed out. He took another sip of the water that she had given him earlier in the tour. With all of their walking she didn’t want him to get dehydrated.
“That’s why I call him Axl,” this caught Izzy off guard causing him to choke on his water. After a couple of coughs he was able to regain his composure.
“Axl?”
“Yeah of Guns N’ Roses...he’s the lead singer, and according to the tabloids he is horny dick. Edward here shares a similar personality. I heard in a interview not too long ago that Axl is apparently from Lafayette, so I thought it was perfect,” she shrugged before she went back to watching the penguin who was clearly interested in his dolphin ‘friends’.
Izzy smirked as he watched dolphin Axl swim around. He wondered if she was a fan of Guns N’ Roses or just heard of the music. It was almost impossible to avoid hearing about the band. He had been trying to avoid the band entirely for weeks now. Bottom line, he appreciated that she didn’t know who he was. What he was or used to be.
“Looks like Axl is taking a liking to you,” she giggled as she pointed towards the dolphin that was clearly staring at him. Poppy giggled as Izzy moved left and right trying to test to see if the dolphin was actually looking at him. He felt like a fool, but her laugh was worth him making a fool of himself.
“If you ever want to go swimming with your new buddy, let me know. Usually Axl doesn’t like guys, but he seems like he wouldn’t be against swimming with you,” he turned to see the girl smiling from ear to ear.
“No, I’m good. I don’t feel like dealing with a horny Axl,” this earned a giggle from Poppy. It was true though, he had dealt enough with his Axl’s bull shit for years, and he didn’t need to meet the dolphin version.
“Well.....if you ever change your mind,” Poppy walked over towards a small table filled with fliers and grabbed one. She quickly flipped to the page that had her picture on it and wrote her phone number on it.
“This is my personal number, feel free to call it to go swimming....or...if you want to talk about other things. I’m sure you have heard enough about sea creatures to last you a while,” Poppy felt her cheeks flash red as she turned her focus towards the penguin, too intimidated to look Izzy in the eyes.
“Sure,” he said before she waved goodbye and headed behind a staff only door, penguin right behind her.
He opened the brochure and looked at the about our staff page she had written her number on. She looked very different in that photo. Her wetsuit was replaced by a white lab coat where the red hair that framed her face caused her freckles to stand out even more.
Doctor Poppy Thomas is our second aquatic specialist. As a proud Indiana Alumni, Dr Poppy earned her masters and PHD at Purdue University with a focus on animal rehabilitation and psychology. Poppy joined us during the Summer of 1990, and has become a quick favorite amongst the penguins.
Poppy couldn’t help the smile that was plastered on her face as she brought Philip back to the rehab room. She couldn’t believe that she had actually given someone her phone number. She was so proud of herself. Was it professional? No.
Did she do it anyway? Yes.
Plus if anyone asked she could just give a little while lie and say that he was writing a paper and needed to get a hold of her.
“Someone is in a good mood,” Poppy looked over towards Dr Elliot who was reading some academic journal.
“Went on a walk with Philip, he is moving his arm a lot better. He appears to almost have full range. Don’t ya buddy?” Poppy looked at the penguin who was minding his own business.
“Ohh good to hear Poppy!” Sally, one of their technicians, cheered while helping Poppy take off the harness.
“So who was the guy you were showing around? Was he someone who donated a lot of money or something?” Sally asked the moment Dr Elliot left the room.
Despite only being a vet technician, she had more experience with how their Zoo worked than Poppy. Sally had worked at the Zoo for over 10 years, and no one gets a tour unless they are someone special. Now if they were special to Poppy or to the Zoo was a totally different question.
“No, just a visiting paying patron of the zoo,” Poppy shrugged back.
Sally smirked as she saw the red hues fill Poppy’s cheeks. Did someone have a small crush?
“A cute paying patron?”
“I...uhhh...I didn’t notice,” this only earned a laugh from Sally.
“Ohh honey...one of the volunteers asked me why you were giving a tour to a cute guy who looked to be about you age ,” Sally smirked the entire time she was talking.
Poppy just brushed off her comment and went to change out of her wetsuit. Sally was married with two children, so she lived through Poppy. It was something Poppy had grown used to. Whether it was Sally telling her to go out to a bar or to see some concert, Sally would make the recommendations. Her recommendations would also include guys to date, her very unwanted recommendations.
Poppy then spent the rest of the day checking up on the other animals, Izzy never slipping her mind. She then drove home, trying to get her mind off of the boy she gave a tour to. She sang along to songs on the radio all while feeling bad for anyone nearby who heard her poor vocal skills. Once she got home, she walked into her cozy one bedroom apartment and immediately walked over towards her kitchen and began to cook. The entire time she never took her eyes off of the phone.
She grew impatient as dinner turned into watching a show which turned into showering and heading to bed. All hope of Izzy calling her diminished as she curled up under the covers.
Almost in parallel Izzy sat on his couch, silence filling the air. He had debated back and forth on whether or not to call her. He could hear his band mates...ex-bandmates in the back of his head giving him their unwanted advice. Axl was saying to move on, he was a rockstar and she was nothing. Slash was saying something about how she would be a good fuck because doctors know the human anatomy best. Steven and Duff were saying to go for it because she was cute. He let a groan escape him as he plopped down on the couch. Chicks were so much easier when he was in a band.
Izzy soon found himself digging through his bag that was filled with sheet music and other crap, eventually finding the flier with her number. He then found his phone and dialed the number, hoping it wasn’t too late. He turned towards the large black clock that hung on the wall. He cussed to himself as he noticed it was 3 in the morning.
He had almost lost hope when the phone continued to ring, but he felt a smile cross his face when he heard a groggy hello from the other end.
“Hey, Poppy? This is Izzy.”

Hi friend :D
Care to share any AUs that you have ideas for, but haven’t gotten to write yet?
I in fact would love to share some of them! Most aren't thought out completely story-wise but I think they would be cute :)
First a medieval au that is mostly concentrating on Bumswiftery (yes I know I am a bit hyperfocused right now) where Skittery is the prince (his father, the King, is kind of evil but he doesn't yet know), Swifty is a knight and they are tasked to find the Witch/Mage living in the woods because the Queen is ill. That Mage is in fact Bumlets and somehow the stories about 'evil forest witches' are very wrong as he's just living there in peace with his apprentice Flipper (some townsfolk thought an 'offering' to the forest witch would be a good idea and Bumlets didn't want to let the kid go back to them and instead teaches him magic.)
Of course the King is at fault here and just wants to get his hands on the Mage to use those powers for himself, because what else. And then Skittery and Swifty go to safe Bumlets :)
Ok next has a bit less thoughts but Restaurant AU where Jack and Davey have some american style diner but it is still a restaurant with a bar too and almost open 24/7. Of course most newsies work there, for example Spot is a bartender (and no of course he didn't threaten David so he and Race always have the same shift nooo), Race a cook, Skittery and Bumlets are servers (and Swifty is definitely not coming there just for them). Also I thought it would be funny for Dutchy to work at the local hospital and after night shifts to go there and then have half a very tired panic because the bartender (Specs) is very cute and he has a night shift behind him and looks like shit. Just all cute shenanigans in modern you know?
Thennn a bit about the boarding school au maybe? It isn't as focused on the school as it sounds, but this one is focused on Specs/Dutchy and probably set in the 70s/80s because it feels most boarding school things are around that time. Dutchy is known to be gay and people tend to avoid him but Specs, the new kid, gets partnered with him for a project and they find out they both enjoy the paranormal and ghost hunting. Of course they sneak out at night to search for ghosts somewhere in the older parts of the school. Also a fun part would be if Specs is in a kinda Addams Family style family? Meaning he has definitely already seen ghosts before but Dutchy's enthusiasm is amusing. Also Sarah is there as Specs friend from home and she is dressing very goth which I think would suit her a lot actually.
Last but not least Masquerade which is kind of just a fairytale AU focusing on Snitch/Itey where Pulitzer (even though no one knows at first) is turning the people on the Masquerade ball to stone and then is intending to get a high reward to fix things or smth it isn't completely thought out. Of course of the couples some are only partly turned to stone as some were out in the halls (or for Sprace they didn't notice much of it at all as they had snuck out into the gardens to make out). And then Snitch, Bumlets and someone else I forgot were hired to go to the ball and steal things and act as scapegoats but Snitch really wants to help the prince (Itey) especially as he notices Pulitzer is actually the one behind everything. We mostly did this AU to choose fancy clothes for everyone which was really great.
So yeah those were both mine and @thatoneandlonelyemo2005 's AUs because we talk about them a looooot and we have so many more that are more or less good to talk about in public. Thanks for the ask! 🩵
