I don't tend to use a lot of orange or yellow unless they're part of a colour wheel, but wanted something fire-inspired for this. It's another big one, about 43cm (17") across. Blackwork embroidery on 14-count Aida cloth.

As a commissioner, I love seeing how artists interpret and stylize my characters, but as an artist, I often agonize over if I should try to match the style of the provided reference or lean into my own style.

#flame polls #sometimes people specifically say which style they want which is super helpful #sometimes people don't know which is when i usually stick closer to the reference style. idk if that's for the best tho. like- #im being commissioned because they like how i draw right? so i should draw in the way i usually do? but that doesn't always seem to #be the case idk #i don't wanna bash people for having preferences tho. this isn't meant to be judgemental one way or the other #i was just contemplating how i approach various commissions depending on how the client asks for what they want #and also because im doing some design exploration right now so i'm pushing at certain aspects of my style. makes me think!

I planned the colors for the Heart Flame Diki Spirit first. I wasn’t sure how close I could get to the sketch but I was able to translate it really well. This room guardian features fluorescent colors that glow under a black light. The fur along the back of the neck and tail was made from dozens of strips of meticulously layered furs and feathers to achieve the dynamic color and luxurious texture. Every color change in the fur along the front of the body was quilted together by hand. The neck and tail have a fully posable ball and socket armature inside that will not wear out over time. The arms have a wire armature that bends at the shoulder and elbow. The wrists and ears are ball jointed and can pivot on their sockets. The head, ears, and arms are all cast in durable resin. The paws are individually sculpted from slightly flexible clay.

In August of 2021 I finished reading the mega-hit series: A Court of Thorns and Roses. I love these books, so of course I wanted to stay in Prythian a while longer. I designed a gown for each of the courts and did a little designer world building to go with them. This was a fun project, and I keep meaning to go back and create designs for the men and other key looks.
