Inktober day 1. NÄKKI

"In Finnish mythology, Näkki is a shapeshifting water spirit who usually appears in human form, that resides in murky pools, wells, docks, piers and under bridges that cross rivers.

They are principally known for pulling young children into the depths, if they lean over bridge railings, docks or otherwise look into water surfaces to see their own reflection and touch the water. Näkki is a fine example of a spirit enlisted by parents to guide children away from unsafe practices"(source: wikipedia(sorry.))

Ilmatar By Wilhelm Ekman (1860)  Ilmatar was the creator goddess in the Finnish epic Kalevala. While pregnant she laid down in the sea but could not give birth. A bird laid seven eggs on her knees, which eventually broke and formed the world. Ilmarinen struck fire, Väinämöinen sparked flashes, With three feathers of Kokko.

My mystery sticker design made for Tracon 2023! Thank you all who participated in the sticker rally! I hope you all had fun and enjoyed your prizes and collecting! My leftover stickers will be available in my sh0p and upcoming events later.

The artist team decided to make sticker designs based on the theme of the event, which was forces of nature. I chose thunder and ended up with this design. I originally wanted it to be cohesive with the Blessings of the Old Gods, but I think I found something new here, something I really like and want to explore more.

Inktober day 2. MAAHINEN

Basically maahinen translates to gnome in english, but since there aren't many similar descriptions about gnomes, the two are not really linked. In Finnish mythology maahinen is a certain type of elf. They are usually friendly, live underground, most of the time appear invisible to human eye and may play tricks on men. Usually maahinens are described to be smaller than a human, occasionally very beautiful but sometimes similar to trolls, only smaller in size.

The most known stories regarding maahinens are the changeling-stories. A maahinen enters a bedroom, changing a human baby for their kind, either elderly maahinen or a baby-one. It's told that a changeling kid from maahinen would often grow up crooked or mad. Old folks am i right...
