Norsery Rhymes from A to Z Folla - Goddess of Full Abundance
Well here we are on another ThorsDay with another quick 20 min sketch of a Norse (and Germanic, sometimes Celtic) mythological characters.  This week it’s a version of Folla / Fulla / Volla.
Her name has been translated to mean 'full', or 'abundant', or 'bountiful' from the proto-germanic 'fullōn'. She's also know as "The Wise Confidante", and the "Goddess of Service".
She is an maiden attendant and confidante of Frigg. And attested as her sister on some old German charms. She would look after, and even guard, Friggs things and household, including her most precious treasure in her Ash box. While also attending Friggs needs while she went about her duties.
She;s depicted as beautiful and wise, giving the best counsel.
She was prayed and made offerings too for bountiful harvests.
Her other notable feature is the gold ribbon she wears around her head.

Ratatoskr, the mischievous little rodent scurrying about on the world tree bringing news from all the realms. But most importantly, he is a messenger between the great dragon Nidhoggr, that gnaws on the roots of Yggdrasil, and the eagles, perched on top of the World Tree. He may seem insignificant in the great scheme of things, but words travel fast and far, and rumors can have the power to change the world.
Ratatoskr, the squirrel of the ash,
With agile feet and a sharp-tongued lash,
A messenger of gossip and strife,
Whose words bring trouble and twists the knife.
From the roots of Yggdrasil, the tree of fate,
He scurries up and down, with great haste,
Carrying tales between the eagle and the snake,
Fueling their feud for the world's sake.
With a voice like a whisper, and a heart of a liar,
He spreads rumors, and climbs even higher,
But his mischief comes with a price,
One that may lead to his own demise.
Though small and unassuming, his power is great,
For he controls the lives of gods and fate,
With his words, he can bring about war,
Or bring peace to the nine realms once more.
So let us not underestimate this rodent,
For his role in the world is indeed potent,
For he is Ratatoskr, the squirrel of the ash,
Whose words shape the fate of the world, and will last.

I am norse Pagan!
I also like APH Norway a lot. So why not give him (and his 2P) some mythological background~ (background is not by me. I only slightly edited it).
Some of my headcanons for them:
- Their names are Lukas and Loki Bondevik
- Lukas and Loki each represent Niflheim and Muspellheim (it corresponds on which side of Yggdrasil they are. Loki being left and Lukas right)
- Lukas has a strong connection to Odin and worships him a lot
- Lukas is also blind and sees through the eyes of two ravens (which is again inspired by Odin's ravens Munnin and Huginn) who are called Trygve and Troels.

Happy Freya's Day everyone! Did you know that the name "Friday" comes from the Norse Vanir goddess Freyja, who was associated with love, fertility, war, and magic?  According to mythology, Freyja rode a chariot pulled by two cats  and was said to have a particular fondness for these feline creatures.

Abandoned Roman Villas (Part II)
As the Roman Empire faced its decline in the 5th century, it left not only political and cultural imprints but also its stately villas, which were gradually reclaimed by nature. These abandoned monuments caught the interest of the Norse and Germanic peoples as they moved through their new territories.
For the Norse peoples, who lived in a world shaped by nature where belief and myth were closely intertwined, the abandoned Roman estates must have appeared mystical and almost surreal. The magnificent buildings, standing amid wildly overgrown gardens and crumbling walls, were like windows to another world—a world left behind by the Romans, whose way of life was fundamentally different from that of the Germanic and Norse peoples.
The ruins were likely seen as places of great power and magic. Norse legends and traditions that deal with decayed structures often speak of "enchanted places" where the spirits of the past are still palpable. The villas might have been regarded by the Norse as magical sites inhabited by the spirits of the Roman nobility who once populated these halls.
Reports from this era are sparse, but it is likely that the Norse interpreted the Roman statues and artworks they found as representations of Roman gods and mythological scenes that were foreign to them. These artifacts may have been treated with reverence or even seen as potential relics or talismans that could offer power or protection.
The rapid reclamation of the villas by nature could also have been seen as symbolic of the victory of the 'wild' natural order over the 'civilized' Roman one. This fits well with the Norse view of nature as a central, life-giving, and sometimes destructive force.
While there are no concrete historical records of the Norse peoples' thoughts on the specific villas, we can speculate that these places were viewed as magical, eerie, and inhabited by spirits. The abandoned Roman villas were not only silent witnesses to past glory but also canvases for the mythologies and cultural expressions of the new 'owners' of these lands.
Overall, the ruins of the Roman villas provided the Norse and Germanic peoples with plenty of reasons for awe and speculation and were likely regarded as significant cultural and spiritual sites where the past and present mysteriously converged. These encounters with the remnants of Roman civilization may have contributed to a rich layer of myths and legends that shaped the Norse culture and its relationship with the past.
