Some anons have been saying that they don't like your personality or whatnot but I actually really admire how you so easily and aggressively(affectionate) defend your boundaries? You seem unapologetic about who you are and ready to defend what you believe in and as someone who tends to be, despite my best efforts, a pushover/people-pleaser and easily shaken by stuff like anon hate, it's actually pretty inspiring. I'm curious if you have any advice as to how you managed to be that confident or if it's just natural/experience? Been loving your art as well

Man. I feel I could ramble on this for awhile but I'll start with something very important When people on the internet hate you for whatever reason just remember

They do not know you

They hate their idea of who you are The version of you that exists in their head is not real. It is not you.

People can only gather small snippets of a person, especially if its only via text posts, and they stitch together these fragmented pieces expecting it to be an entire personality.

These people will never meet you. They are not important. YOU are important. Your friends who truly understand you are important. Your health is important. You cant please everyone but if you know that you are not hurting anyone then you have nothing to be sorry for. You could legitimately be the nicest, most docile, most people pleasing human ever and someone, somewhere will hate you for it. No single being can be universally loved. But you can love yourself unconditionally. Despite your faults, your cracks, your future mistakes. Youre the person who will be with you for the rest of your life. So love who you are. Youre the only you in this world.

intaglio prints i did of my oc Dave for a class assignment like a year ago! a bit about Dave's feelings being a friendly but eternal, undying, and interdimensional sort of guy. being a little outside of the rest of the world's phase of reality, wanting to connect but knowing it can never last etc etc. was very fun!

#art #traditional art #printmaking #intaglio #done with like a vaguely photogravue-esque method: putting transparent film with drawings on a plate that has a photosensitive film over to #transferring the image via a uv light partial cure - removing the less cured parts (where the drawings lines were) #and then fully curing the film so its hard and can be used as a very low profile intaglio! #its very fun and fast - and thats why the drawings look so drawing-ly LOL they were pen drawings photocopied onto transparent paper #these were supposed to be like a sequential storytelling thing for the assignment where each plate was supposed to stand alone well #but i lost the plot half way through and made mine too intended to be layered so i understandably got docked a few marks for that LOL #BUT thats okay i learned a lot (1. remember the assignment instructions) and i still like these! #i should do more intaglio. i thought i hated it but then i realized the method for inking i was taught first was overkill #(i was taught to put way more ink than is needed and it took FOREVER to polish) but now that ive figured out easier methods #its really fun! and works well for someone like me who loves their sketchy lines

so wait, since i was just reminded of the recorder thing donna talked about in the giggle, i now have a question for uk ppl: do yall learn the recorder in school? like in a music class? and like how much do yall have music class over there?

#this is a very interesting topic for me as a music educator from the us #ik a guy from ireland and he said there was no music class in schools for him and like not the same country BUT same island #(as northern ireland. not the others in the uk but still) #and its so wild and fascinating music education is a fascinating field and the way we do it in the us seems to be largely vvv unique to us #for clarification on how things are different so ppl have a better idea on how to answer my question lol: #in the us music class is standard in elementary schools and most places have general music until abt 5th/6th grade (year 6/7) #(general music = basics- music games learn recorder SOME notation-reading; often classroom instruments eg boomwhackers claves maracas #orff instruments if you're lucky/from a school district that isnt poor. also some world music) #its less standardized after that and not every school will have music after middle school but concert bands and choirs are both huge here #choirs start right on the heels of general music classes (sometimes start earlier + students elect to be in choir instead of general music) #bands USUALLY start in 4th grade (year 5) but sometimes can be later 5th/6th (year 6/7) or even 7th (year 8) (WAY less common) #depends on the state generally 4th is most common i think (choirs start at around the same time i think so probs 4th but choir isnt my area #orchestras are weird bc theyre a lot less common but can commonly start younger bc of one of the big approaches to music ed (suzuki method) #so like maybe 3rd grade (year 4) maybe 4th w/ band (year 5) but i have a friend who teaches at a private school #& said they have 1st/2nd graders (year 2/3)!! orchestra is also not my area though #also marching bands: vv common! usually just in hs (starting 9th grade / year 10) bc it supports the football team at games #but starting in 8th grade (year 9) is also common (sometimes even 7th / year 8) #theres two different styles: collegiate/show band and competition. former is very rah rah pop music etc; competition is more abstract #show bands are clearly designed to entertain whereas competition is designed to be more impressive and tell a story #so more impact moments abstract shapes/lines on the field and has movements - opener ballad closer (fast-slow-fast)

Trans people, please don't rely on other people to tell you if your experiences or identity is valid.

It is a very human thing to seek understanding and validation (humans are social creatures and whatnot), but seeking people to tell you that who you are is valid places a ton of power in others. What happens when somebody tells you that they don't think you're valid?

And at the end of the day, it doesn't matter if your identity is "valid" or not to other people. What matters is if your identity suits you. You aren't a robot who lives at the behest of others, who can change the core of your being at the drop of a hat. You will continue to exist as you are with or without validation and with or without permission.

If you’re not black, it’s always best to look up terms and listen to what black people say to begin with, that’s the most important thing and if you’ve seen black people talk about a specific term that you might recognize as being aave, simply let your friends know that they shouldn’t really be using such terms in the first place since at this point, viewed as antiblack and micro aggressive because Black people have grown tired of having to talk about this same problem over and over again. Especially when they use such terms directed at Black people. If they continue to use the terms despite being told not to, then you already know what they are.

finally repainted this portrait of my hawke that i've been meaning to do for a while. i did this all in one sitting maybe like 2-2.5 hours? the last time i painted this was in 2020. mainly posting for tracking progress reasons, the originals are below the cut!

#ough. the originals... whew #honestly the stylization of the 2018 one still kinda gets me. like i kinda like it. but the 2020 one..... lol #i like repainting this one because i find this angle really difficult #so i know it will take Some effort. i think i did a decent job #i think the contrast could be better #and hair and lips are still clearly my weak points.... :/ #also i definitely made her eyelashes way too luscious. i got carried away #at least i finally learned how to draw a nose. LOL #anyways i wanted to see how fast i could do this compared to the others which is why i only spent like 2hrs on it #i dont remember the 2018 one but i know for sure the 2020 one i spent a few days on so that's cool to see #that i've improved visually and like.
