April 26: All 13 IATSE Locals Have Reached Tentative Agreements with the AMPTP; now IATSE will restart general negotiations.
After over a month of negotiating, all 13 of IATSE’s West Coast Locals have reached tentative deals with the AMPTP, IATSE announced today. Now the real fight can begin.
On Thursday, April 25, the last of the remaining 13 locals, Affiliated Property Craftspersons Local 44, reached a tentative agreement with the studios, and Studio Teachers, IATSE Local 884, reached a deal on April 19, opening the door for IATSE’s national negotiating committee to restart negotiations on the Basic Agreement. Those talks are scheduled to kick off on April 29 and continue through May 16.
“Our locals’ craft-specific issues required the employers’ attention, and at the table we’re seeing improved engagement and dialogue,” IATSE’s International vice president Mike Miller said in a statement. “That indicates the studios’ negotiators have different marching orders this contract cycle. This approach will be helpful as we continue our negotiations over the next few weeks.”

Each of the 13 locals (44, 80, 600, 695, 700, 705, 706, 728, 729, 800, 871, 884, and 892) were negotiating issues specific to their own crafts and union members, with two locals talking with the studios at a time. They reached tentative deals largely without any hiccups. A few of the locals, including Local 44 representing set decorators and propmakers, did not reach a deal in their allotted three days of scheduled bargaining and bled into the following week, but there were no delays in the overall schedule, and IATSE even scheduled a week of caucusing to account for such a scenario if things ran long.
The locals haven’t had a chance to negotiate a new contract for the last six years, with Covid interrupting what would’ve been the prior round of negotiations. And it’s also unprecedented that each of the 13 locals got several days of individual time scheduled in advance in order to work through their contracts. Not all of the locals has always had the time afforded to them to come to the negotiating table.
Terms of the tentative deals with each of the locals have not been revealed to members just yet, and they won’t be put up for ratification until after IATSE has reached a tentative deal on the Basic Agreement. IATSE recently flopped the order of its bargaining schedule, intending to negotiate the Basic Agreement followed by the Area Standards Agreement, which covers craftspeople working outside of Los Angeles. Negotiations for the ASA will start on May 20 and run through May 31.
The real battle now begins with the studios over issues wage increases, pension and health contributions, quality of life conditions such as lengths of workdays, meal penalties, and turnaround times, job security, residuals, and the big elephant in the room, AI.
IATSE already got the ball rolling on talks related to health plan terms and pension benefits back on March 4, and they teamed up with the Teamsters and Hollywood Basic Crafts to speed along the process. Teamsters and Basic Crafts won’t begin their individual talks until sometime in June.

Strike's over—what now?
Tumblr media
[ID: SAG-AFTRA picket sign with the logo of a person with a raised fist and the text, "SAG-AFTRA ON STRIKE!" The picture was taken near the Sony building and "Sony Pictures" and "Sony Music Publishing" can be seen on a sign to the right. end ID]
On November 8, SAG-AFTRA reached a tentative deal with the AMPTP to end the strike. What can we as fans & audiences do to continue supporting the unions?
DONATE TO STRIKE FUNDS!
The devastating effects of both strikes on every entertainment worker AND those not in entertainment, but affected by the work stoppages, are going to continue to be felt for months, even years, down the line. PLEASE don't let up your financial support just because the strikes are over! Please keep boosting posts about how to support the unions! Tip: schedule the posts for a week or a month down the line so they keep circulating.
Entertainment Community Fund
Green Envelope Grocery Aid
VOCALLY SUPPORT THE UNIONS MOVING FORWARD!
WGA and SAG-AFTRA have won, but you know who still needs a deal? The Animation Guild will have negotiations next year. IATSE, aka International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, which represents technicians and craftspeople, is going to enter into negotiations next year. Teamsters (unionized drivers, including the ones essential to Hollywood sets!) are going into negotiations next year. It is essential that we show up for other unions like we showed up for WGA/SAG-AFTRA. And if you haven't yet... have YOU considered joining a union?
CORRECT MISINFORMATION AND BIASED NARRATIVES!
Lots of people—both in the immediate future and a few years down the line—are going to think they've drawn correct conclusions from the strike that are absolutely false. False ideas like WGA/SAG-AFTRA were the ones that dragged out the strikes, that it was unnecessary to put such a strain on the economy, and so on.
Prove them wrong—and cite your sources! WGA/SAG-AFTRA's Twitter updates and website articles updated during the strikes are a good resource, as are eyewitness accounts from those of us who were active participants in fandoms supporting the unions. Don't let the narrative get turned around. Unions are essential, strikes work, and it was the solidarity between varied workers and their audiences that forced the AMPTP back to the table.

Equity Updates Strike Advice Due To “Panic & Confusion” Among UK Publicists Over Actors’ Press Duties
Jake Kanter, July 25, 2023
DEADLINE
[Photo: Actors Andy Serkis, David Oyelowo, Hayley Atwell, Rob Delaney, Brian Cox, Simon Pegg, Jim Carter, and Imelda Staunton, attend a rally by UK performers' group Equity, in solidarity with striking US actor collective SAG-AFTRA, in London, UK, on Friday, July 21, 2023. They hold a large purple banner that says "Equity stands in solidarity with SAG-AFTRA."]
EXCLUSIVE: British actors union Equity will today update strike guidance for publicity agents amid confusion over how stars should manage their promotional duties during the SAG-AFTRA walkout.
The union, which has said it will enthusiastically support industrial action within UK laws, is expected to update its strike FAQs after getting calls from publicists requesting clarity.
Multiple publicists have told Deadline that there is uncertainty over how they should be preparing for press campaigns over the coming months.
“Everybody’s in a state of panic and downing tools because they don’t want to put their clients in a difficult position,” said one publicist. Another added: “It’s difficult to see where actors stand and there is a lot of confusion.”
Equity General Secretary Paul W Fleming encouraged publicists to check the contracts of their clients and plan campaigns accordingly.
He said actors on a SAG-AFTRA deal are likely to be told by the U.S. union that they are forbidden from doing promotional work. Those on an Equity agreement are not on strike and should fulfill their contractual duties.
“The contract is in dispute, not the union itself,” Fleming said. “American actors are still recording TV commercials. Americans are still recording audiobooks, including for struck companies … because the agreements that they’re recording on are not subject to the dispute.”
Deadline hears that British actors have voiced reservations about doing interviews and other publicity work during the strike, even when they are on Equity deals.
One publicist said contracts often include a vague provision for “reasonable publicity,” which could be open to interpretation in terms of the volume of promotional work an actor undertakes.
Fleming said members are welcome to contact Equity for specific advice if they are concerned that they are undermining a strike by going “above and beyond” their contractual duties.
“Do you have to carry on doing press and publicity as specified in your contract if you’re on an Equity agreement? Yes. If you’re contractually bound to do ‘reasonable press and publicity,’ what does that now mean? Well, that will depend on the circumstances,” Fleming said.
“What are you objecting to, in particular? Going on a chat show in these circumstances, for instance, maybe a more reasonable thing to object to, as opposed to having a photograph taken.”
The union would never actively advise members to renege on press duties to support the strikes because it could be seen as an inducement to take illegal industrial action.

My first thought when I read about the wga strike on tumblr was along the lines of 'that's happening in America, so none of my business.'
And i guess it is kinda true because I live like thousands of miles away and I cannot understand the people the emotions and goals of the people there.
But there is also the fact that it doesn't just affect the people there. I also love the shows that they're talking about, and so in a way it affects all of us. And besides, this isn't about the shows it is aboupt the people behind the show. It is about the people who work hard to create the things for us but are not even getting what they deserve for it.
What I'm trying to say is that just because the strike is in America doesn't mean we shouldn't show our support for it or consider it 'not our issue'

From CableTV .com Aug 29, 2023 AMC SHOWS WILL STREAM ON MAX: WHICH SHOWS AND FOR HOW LONG? By Alex Kerai
The CableTV.com Take
Seven shows from AMC Networks will start streaming on Max in September, adding over 200 episodes to the streamer’s content library.
The move comes as Max tries to boost its offerings with new content hubs to retain subscribers and bring cord-cutters into the fold.
We don’t know why the AMC shows are coming to Max, but it’s not the first time a studio has sent its content to a rival streaming service.
AMC Networks is sending seven original shows to Max in September. The shows will be part of the new AMC Plus pop-up collection on Max. The AMC Plus collection is the second content update Max is making in September; the streamer will also be adding a CNN On Max hub, including exclusive content and a 24/7 live news feed. Max is also making a play for live sports and plans to add a sports tier this fall. The streamer hopes to add MLB playoffs first, followed by NBA, NHL, and NCAA games. Dan McDermott, president of Entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks, said the partnership allows them to “serve up some of our most popular and critically acclaimed programming to millions of Max subscribers in the U.S. for two full months.”
Which shows are coming to Max?
Seven shows will be coming to Max starting September 1:
Fear the Walking Dead: Season 1–7
A Discovery of Witches: Seasons 1–3
Killing Eve: Seasons 1–4
Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire: Season 1
Gangs of London: Seasons 1 and 2
Dark Winds: Season 1
Ride with Norman Reedus: Seasons 1–5
The programming pop-up will add more than 200 episodes to Max’s content library, bringing recent AMC Networks programs to a broader audience in the U.S. The addition also comes during the joint WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which shut down productions worldwide and left networks scrambling for content. The AMC Plus hub will provide new content at a time when the streaming service’s original content pipeline is paused while writers and actors negotiate a fair deal from the studios.
Why are AMC shows coming to Max?
That’s a great question, and we don’t really know. For all we know, these shows could extend their limited run on Max, and the AMC Plus collection could continue. Neither AMC Networks nor Max reported the financial terms of the deal. AMC Networks aims to drive more viewers to the shows, hoping they’ll sign up for AMC+ and continue watching. “Subscribers turn to Max to find a deep and diverse selection of stories for the whole household,” said Meredith Gertler, executive VP, Global Content Strategy, Planning & Analysis. “The AMC Plus collection pop-up is an excellent example of how we can use innovative strategies to add value to our content offering.” This is not the first time a studio has sent shows to a rival streaming service. In fact, Warner Bros. Discovery subsidiary HBO sent five shows to Netflix in July, but this is the first time Max will receive content from another network.
How long will the AMC shows be on Max?
Not very long! The seven shows will arrive on Max on September 1 and leave at the end of October. That time frame only gives Max subscribers two months to watch AMC content before it disappears. Luckily, the shows will be easy to find! They’ll be available to all subscribers—ad-free and ad-supported tiers—as “AMC Plus Picks” on the app for no extra cost. And while the shows air on Max for the next two months, they will still be available on AMC+.

I fixed my transcription software! And the WGA meeting with the AMPTP went poorly, so here are screenshots of this fantastic post made by @fans4wga, reproduced under the cut because the OP was a coward.
Top image untranscribed because fuck her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Transcription of the important stuff:
[images above are screenshots of actor Stephen Amell's apology for recent anti-strike comments; his apology in full is posted on Instagram, and you can read his post here] Stephen Amell has already walked back his statements, because he realized he's in the wrong. We suggest you consider researching the strikes and doing the same. TVLine Article What you said: "Striking is not going to do shit. Studios don't care." -> The reality: Writers and actors have forced work stoppages, which will affect hundreds if not thousands of TV shows and movies. The content pipeline for shows and films coming out in the fall and later will dry up. This will absolutely affect the studio's bottom line, which will force them back to the negotiating table. Strikes have always been effective at forcing companies to listen because of how dramatically it affects profits. What you said: "They wanted to negotiate but refused because of their own ego." -> The reality: WGA and SAG-AFTRA understand that the writing and acting professions will cease to exist in the future as a result of exploitative studio practices unless they are stopped in the new contract agreement NOW. If you care to actually learn about the unions' very reasonable demands and the studio's outrageous counterproposals, you can read the WGA's here and SAG-AFTRA's here. What you said: "Now movies and shows are getting delayed because of this stupid strike ... Just fucking negotiate and meet in the middle" -> The reality: That's a blatant regurgitation of studio propaganda. In one phrase you've managed to align yourself with millionaire/billionaire CEOs who make $50+ million a year and also literally intend to force writers into homelessness, and verbally attacked the largely working-class, paycheck-to-paycheck labor force that is striking against abusive, exploitative studio practices and just wants to be compensated fairly! Please educate yourself on the truth: that the vast majority of actors/writers are not in fact rich celebrities, but struggling to even make a living wage. Did you know that the earnings cutoff for SAG-AFTRA to qualify for health insurance is about $26,000 a year and 87% of the union does not qualify? Did you also know that the writers and actors have been willing to return to negotiations from the beginning to get a deal made, and it is the STUDIOS who are declining the offer to return to the table? Are you as a self-described fan seriously unwilling to wait a few extra months for a movie while the very future of the acting and writing professions is on the line? Will you step up and value the work of the writers and actors who create and embody the characters you love? Or would you rather align yourself with millionaire CEOs who value profits over human wellbeing? Reconsider and do better.
Oh, and just to be petty:

NBC Universal is pulling shady shit. Please consider signing the petition and helping them picket at Universal:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Image ID: A tweet threat from Katherine DiSavino from July 15th that reads in it's entirety:
I’m a WGA strike captain & lot coordinator at NBC Universal. On the 2nd week of our strike, Universal began construction on the sidewalks we were picketing on. On day 74 of our strike, they have fenced in and demolished every sidewalk surrounding Gates 1, 2, 4, and 5. (1/3)
(this tweet includes an image that reads: NBC Universal risks Picket and Public Safety. Sign the petition to demand the construction of a pedestrian lane!)
It has made picketing at Universal a challenge, and our incredible Captains and picketers have risen to that challenge every day. But enough is enough. Universal MUST install what the City, County and LAPD Labor Relations have deemed necessary: a protected pedestrian lane. (2/3)
Please sign the petition. Please share it. And please come picket with us at Universal so we can continue to make it clear that the WGA will hold this picket line no matter what. (3/3)
Click this sentence to go to the Google docs petition.
You don’t have to be WGA to sign. If you like sidewalks and walking safely, consider signing!

Tagging people I think might be willing to boost this under the cut:

EDIT: I have been informed that there is no call for boycotting movies during the strike! Thank you @fans4wga for letting me know. I’m keeping the post up with this additional link given by user above: click here
The only reason I haven’t deleted this is bc reblogs don’t disappear when the OG post is deleted and some with the original missinformation are already out there. Hopefully some ppl who see those also see this version
There are plenty of shows/movies you already own or have been made in the past by complying companies. Your entertainment is not more important than ppl making a livable wage

So I know tumblr promoting One Piece is not super cool, but isn’t ofmd also doing that by promoting? I’m not sure if their production is different or not. Can someone who knows more about this pls clarify?
EDIT: it was brought to my attention that I was misunderstanding the term “crossing the picket line”. Tumblr promoting one piece is not crossing a picket line. I did not understand exactly how the strike requests were supposed to work. I’ve tried to correct my original post to reflect this. Im really sorry for misusing terms and I will try to be more accurate in the future. Also @fans4wga has lots of good info on this!
