you just entered the game. youve got a bottle of momslime. your modus was literally built to hold ectobiologized goo. youve been feeling the weight of destiny on your shoulders -- YOU ARE GOING TO MEET HER. she might be dead but you are going to meet her.

and you get to your sprite,

and theres just

a fucking

CLOWN

and two corpses that he throws into the kernel.

(the first homestuck fic i ever read, Conference Call, has a version of the erisolsprite prototyping. they fought gamzee and got their fuckin asses kicked. its great.)

and then youre left with just. Some Alien Bitch. and its like the universe is teasing you, because she's partially the DIRECT DESCENDANT of the fishwitch what killed your mom, and also a cat???? you are so sick to death of cats. you have been up to your fucking ass in cats. its just too much

and then she just. talks to you

and you slowly start to listen

you hear about her lives on alternia. what it was like being a princess, what it was like being the pauper. how they weren't even really friends, before -- they ran in different circles.

but they're one person, now. one person dedicated to *helping you.*

we never find out how roxy quit drinking, or who helped her through it

and fefeta *loves* you. she listens to you talk about boys. you talk about your mom. fefeta never really spoke to her... but her nepeta half *knows what happened to your kitty frigglish* after he died. and frigglish said that your mom was okay.

that everything was going to be okay

and it's just. jane had her shit. jake was up in his shit. dirk had fucked off with his shit. and roxy really only had fefeta!!!!!!!!

and i think they were moirails and i think they loved each other so much. frankly. tbf.

roxy is a trans woman, fefeta is newly plural. they have a lot in common. tbqh. its like. its very beautiful. in my eyes. in my vision.

and then

she dies

and this is like. this is a really big fucking deal honestly?

fefeta's death is like. a huge thing. its one of the only things she tells john about when summarizing the entirety of her session.

and this isnt something she magically gets back in the post-retcon timeline, either

like... when fefeta dies, there isnt a post-retcon fefeta. (we'll GET TO YOU JASPROSE.) it's just roxy who remembers fefeta's existence at all -- her friends dont have any connection to her. *nobody alive in all of reality* remembers her.

fefeta isnt just dead, dude, shes Fucking GONE. shes the goner ever. shes fuckin erased.

but honestly

on a level? good for her.

we've seen what being in homestuck does to people. it warps them, reshapes them. (see the new hsbc upd8 for some cool imagery about it.) fefetasprite was never a real part of the story. she got away with being silent -- her words are hidden from us. she was never in LE's clutches.

and why would LE even want to clutch her

she's the sword that's going to kill him, after all

i call fefetasprite the "cat fish witch" for a very important reason. a) its cute BUT B). if you look at caledfwlch, dave's sword, and just sorta. squint at the word. it looks like cat fish witch. that's fefeta. she Iss the cat fish witch.

so what does her death mean?

well it's not like dave used an UNBROKEN sword to fight LE.

feferi is the part of the sword still left in the stone. the part we forgot and left behind.

which leaves Nepeta, the other half of this broken sword, of the Cat Fish Witch

I love seeing the asks and tags that people are leaving you! Here's my Survivor story: after finishing the game and sobbing my eyes out, I told my therapist that experience was incredibly cathartic...and *that* lead me to finally go to grief therapy. Something I should have done years ago.

It never ceases to amaze me just how much this game touches people in such profound ways.

Good stories are so important in helping us understand the world and ourselves. Really glad to hear Survivor could be a catalyst for your own healing. Hope you're doing well 💛

I was laid off three months before the game came out, and a mix of health issues and inconsistent gig work left me drained and uncertain about the future. Watching Cal navigate the lows, highs, and even more lows within Survivor - trying to determine the "right" decision in the midst of pain and grief - hit super close to home. Somehow Star Wars was the thing that carried me through most of last year and hey, I'll take it :)

How do you feel about the portrayal of plurality in Homestuck? Because it’s not good.

Cherubs are “supposed” to predominate over their other personality. With Calliope being portrayed as naive for trying to co exist.

Horuss is mocked for being a system. But I’d say it was a king fun of people who pretend to be mentally Ill on social media for clicks.

okay. so

homestuck is one of the best pieces of media of all time for plurality and i fuckin mean it. no shot do not pass go i have NEVER seen anything that is more built from the ground up to Support plural reads. like, to the point where it feels impossible to read homestuck without it.

as a work dealing with two huge primary themes of a) finding yourself/identity/growing up, and b) ideas coming to life, plurality is pretty much the Perfect intersection between the two of them. like.

take rose for example.

rose is plural and it's great.

when the doomed timeline evaporates, future dream rose does not actually "cease to exist." she ceases to exist as her own person -- her memories, experiences, personality, thoughts (or, as shorthand, her selfstuff) all flows back into rose prime. and that experience is just something rose has to roll with. one becomes two -- that other rose is still in her mind.

jade's plural and it's great.

when her dream self awakens as jadesprite, jade has a horrific argument with her. if you're plural i'm sure you understand. fighting with an age-regressed version of you, stuck in a traumatic past, who WONT FUCKING LISTEN -- we've all . been there.

she has involuntary barks, she can't stop seeing images of fire, she wants to go back to nonexistence but she doesnt want to die and it's torture,

and then in cascade, jade fuses with her.

dream jade is still in there. that part of her she has to grapple with is still real. her dog who she loves is in there, too -- but, yknow. woof

then grimbark gets forcefully introjected into her. i've seen a few fics play with the idea that the grimbark personality is still residually there (read ygtpoasu), but it's not a huge thing that's explored in the text. more backgrounded. but still! her crisis of identity is in there.

wanna know what's NOT backgrounded

tavros's plurality is like, a pretty big factor in his character!!!! it's one of the bigger points vriska uses to bully him with (because she's projecting because she's projecting because she's projecting, because she's also plural and kins mindfang), it's like. a big thing that he has to cope with and figure out.

kanaya suggested tavros treat his self-confidence as his own brain guy, like, completely sincerely. she genuinely thought it would help, and it sorta did!!!!!

and like

it is FAR from the only positive example of plurality in the comic.

like. look at sollux and aradia defending "alternate reality copies" of characters -- which can be pretty easily extrapolated to them talking about fictives

i dunno, man. i think that homestuck is a DEEPLY plural story. you should read mtm and kgtac for more exploration of these themes. read detective pony too while you're at it. like.

hi! re: your post about koto and yusuke in a soulmate fic. Do they know instantly that they're soulmates or is it a gradual realization?

thank you so much for the ask! and for giving me the chance to ramble about my soulmate idea lol

so in my soulmate au, i wanted to do things a little differently. instead of the more popular tropes, like names or first words, words only appear at certain times. like "the" time. a person's soulmate isn't exactly predetermined, it can rarely happen instantly but usually happens after a gradual amount of time. soulmates can be platonic or romantic, and a person can have multiple soulmates.

the words appear when the person's soulmate says them. so a bit of a spoiler alert but it is mentioned in the summary, koto gets yusuke's words on her. it's after they've been friends for years, but it's still a surprise. yusuke does not get koto's words at the same time, and he has no idea that his words have appeared on her. he gets her words much later on, and she only knows because her words appear on an uncovered part of him.

there is another couple who get their words instantly, which is a rare case. the first time person a speaks, person b gets their words on a thankfully very hidden part of their body. person b also refuses to speak to person a, because they absolutely do not want a soulmate.

other fun cases are platonic soulmates. i won't say when it happens, but yusuke and kuwabara are platonic soulmates. they have each other's words, but they both know it's not in a romantic sense.

it's also possible to have multiple romantic soulmates. either simultaneously or at different times. like atsuko, who is very much involved in this fic. she has yusuke's father's words, but they obviously didn't stay together. much later on in the story, she gets someone else's words as well.

now, i don't have all the specific words figured out. i'm mostly going with the idea that it'll come to me in the moment, much like the words work in this soulmate au. the only words i know for sure are for yusuke and koto, as well as one other pairing that will remain a mystery for now.

the main take away is that the words appear once a bond has been informed. they have to be said at the right time by the right person, and the words are not binding. there are people who choose not to be with their soulmates romantically, or even platonically. there are even cases where the words are between people who are against each other. the words mostly just indicate that the person is important to you.

I'm putting in a premise that I don't really remember what happens in my dreams, mostly just details and vibes. From what I do remember though, I was in a monastery somewhere and had avoided the plague because it was in a pretty remote place, and then one of the monks suddenly died from it and it slowly took over the entire monastery until I found out I had symptoms and woke up
