Elizabeth Lim wuchs in der Nähe von San Francisco auf und kam schon früh mit Märchen, Mythen und Liedern in Berührung. Nach ihrem Studium an der Juilliard School und am Harvard College arbeitete sie zunächst als Komponistin für Filme und Computerspiele, bevor sie mit dem Schreiben begann. Nachdem ihr nun die Rezension zu Band 1 erhalten habt, folgt jetzt der zweite Teil der Dilogie. Ehrlich gesagt, konnte mich das Buch nicht so sehr in den Bann ziehen, wie der erste Teil. Dennoch gab es hier eine interessante Fortsetzung. Bestand Band 1 aus dem Wettkampf und Maia ihrer Leidenschaft bzw. Traum als Schneiderin, so geht’s in Band 2 eher um den Fluch und einer neuen Aufgabe. Nachdem Maia in Band 1 ihr Können gezeigt hatte, musste sie dafür ja einen hohen Preis zahlen. Der Dämon Bandur hat Besitz über sie ergriffen und Maia möchte sich am liebsten ihrem Schicksal hingeben. Doch stimmt es wirklich das Maia den Fluch und damit Bandur loswird? Und wie steht es dabei um ihre Beziehung zu Edan? Das solltet ihr selbst lesen, denn den Ausgang des Buches möchte ich euch an dieser Stelle nicht verraten. Der Schreibstil der Autorin Elizabeth Lim war auch hier flüssig und leicht zu lesen. Dennoch fiel es mir schwer in die Geschichte anfangs vollkommen einzutauchen. Vermutlich lag es daran, dass der Kampf um Maia ihren Traum hier in den Hintergrund rückte. Dennoch wurden die Protagonisten wieder recht authentisch dargestellt. Nicht immer waren für mich die Entscheidungen von Maia direkt nachvollziehbar, aber mit dem weiteren lesen konnte man sie dann verstehen. Im letzten Drittel des Buches fieberte man richtig mit Maia mit, denn Bandur hatte fast vollständig Besitz von ihr genommen. Wie würde ihr Kampf ausgehen, eine Frage, die ich mir während des Lesens stellte. Ein Buch mit Schwächen gegenüber Band 1, dennoch ein würdiger Abschluss der Dilogie. Sofern ihr Band 1 gelesen habt, dann solltet ihr auch dieses Buch lesen um weiter Maia und ihre Geschichte zu verfolgen.

🐉RATING: 🔥🔥🔥🔥/5 ✨✨NEW RELEASE✨✨ The Dragon’s Promise, by Elizabeth Lim, continues immediately where Six Crimson Cranes left off and wastes no time launching Shiori into her new quest. The concluding book of this duology increases the action and danger as Shiori seeks to fulfill the promise she made to her stepmother. The narrative is broken up into subplots, each with their own conflict and resolution. Six Crimson Cranes did this in a similar manner but the divisions stand out more in The Dragon’s Promise. I think this is because the first book, while it has different settings, all takes place within the Kingdom of Kiata. The second book shifts between three different kingdoms - Ai’Long the dragon realm, Kiata, and the Tambu Isles. The story felt as if it was divided into distinct acts with dramatic set changes. I loved the time spent in the dragon kingdom. Lim impressively creates a new underwater fantasy world that is vivid and engrossing. Tambu is another new kingdom - lush, tropical, and full of magic. But Tambu isn’t as immersive a world as Ai’Long. The worldbuilding here is more superficial, as the focus is rightly placed on the climactic showdown. In the books quieter moments, Shiori wrestles with her destiny as Kiata’s “bloodsake.” Her bond with Takkan, her betrothed, also strengthens, but their romantic encounters don’t move beyond kissing. The Dragon’s Promise takes the first book and amps up the action - more dragons, more demons, gods and goddesses, murderous priestesses, and scheming politicians. Readers who enjoyed Six Crimson Cranes will not be disappointed with the sequel. ❓QOTD: Do you read YA books? 💫Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim. Book Review ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 💫 This story follows Princess Shiori who posses forbidden magic. When runs away from meeting her dreaded betrothed, this spirals into her discovering that her Step-Mother is a powerful sorceress. When Shiori's Step-Mother discovers Shiori's powers, she turn's Shiori's six brothers into cranes and curses Shiori, sending heraway from the palace with nothing but the clothes on her back and the condition that "For every word she speaks, one of her brothers will die". Now Shiori must work to find her brothers, break her Step-Mother's curse and thwart a newly discovered ploy for the throne, with the help of a dragon and the dreaded Betrothed. 💫 I had tried to read this book before and couldn't get into. I was very disappointed and wasn't sure if the book itself was disappointing or if it just wasn't the right time for me read. Luckily!! I gave it another chance and I'm very glad I did. ⭐ This book was absolutely stunning, with such intriguing mythology as a backstory and truly immersive story telling. The vivid imagery was just food for my daydreaming. ⭐Shiori was a great MC with amazing determination. I loved seeing her grow and reading her thoughts as this happens. ⭐I am a sucker for romance and this book plus #Shielded by Kaylynn Flanders made me realise that I love the trope where the love interest starts to fall for the MC not knowing the MC is their betrothed ⭐Some of the reasons why this book wasn't a five star was because I wishedwe had seen Shiori use her magic more throughout the book. She only used her magic in the beginning before the curse and during the action scenes close to the end of the book. ⭐The twist was also a little iffy for me. While it wasn't a major plot hole, I think there were other ways to solve the earlier problem without those stakes. Hello everyone, hope you all had a lovely weekend, I’m back with another book haul 😍 The first book on the left is Maggie O’Farrell’s gorgeous new novel, The Marriage Portrait and this is the exclusive Waterstones edition which I’m glad I went for! I’ve recently finished reading this with booksta bestie @emmasbookishcorner so look out for my review coming in the next few weeks (I’m so behind! 😂) Anonymous Sex was sent to me by the lovely @llivsbooks and it’s one I’m reading at the moment. This is 27 different erotic stories from 27 individual authors but all of them are anonymised. I was too intrigued to pass on it when Liv offered to send it my way! Finally, I plumped for this gorgeous @waterstones edition of The Dragon’s Promise, the second book in the Six Crimson Cranes series which I’m also planning to read with Emma. Heut folgt wieder eine Rezension, zu einem Buch, das ich bereits vor einiger Zeit gelesen habe. Kennt ihr Maia aus dem Buch „Ein Kleid aus Seide und Sternen“ bereits? Nein? Wenn Fantasy etwas für euch ist und ihr vielleicht auch Mulan liebt, dann ist dieses Buch vielleicht etwas für euch. Ich muss sagen, ein ganz klein wenig erinnert mich die Geschichte an Mulan. Recht schnell lernen wir die Protagonistin Maia kennen und erfahren das sie sehr gerne Meisterschneiderin werden möchte. Doch dieser Traum bleibt ihr verwehrt, denn sie ist ein Mädel. Wie euch der Klappentext bereits verrät, kommt sie ihrem Traum sehr nah. Sie gibt sich als Junge aus und kann so an den Wettbewerb des Kaisers teilnehmen. Das es hier Hürden gibt, könnt ihr euch sicher vorstellen. Ich habe Maia aber auch den Magier Edan sehr gern hier gelesen. Die beiden konnten mich sehr gut unterhalten. Während Edan erst etwas zwiespältig rüber kam, merkte man das Maia mit der klassischen Rollenverteilung, zu der Zeit in dem die Geschichte spielte, nicht einverstanden war. Sie verstand nicht, warum sie als Mädchen/junge Frau nicht anerkannte Schneiderin werden kann. Warum soll das nur den männlichen Part zustehen. Ein Kleid aus Seide und Sternen wird aus der Perspektive von Maia erzählt und sehr gut von der Autorin umgesetzt. Die Story konnte mich packen und man wollte, mit jedem Abschnitt in der kleinen Leserunde, wissen wie es hier mit Maia und auch Edan weiter geht. Die Autorin selbst war mir bis zu dem Zeitpunkt nicht bekannt, ihr Schreibstil hatte mir hier aber gefallen. Das Buch ließ sich gut und leicht lesen. Eine Geschichte um eine junge Frau, die gerne Schneiderin werden möchte und ihren Wunsch nicht aufgibt. Durch das Setting denkt man ein klein wenig an Mulan.
