i will forever defend eren with my life. i will forever defend HIM, eren, not his actions. i will forever defend eren !!

it was clear to us that the cycle of oppression would continue despite eren’s conclusion (committing genocide). when he lived in eldia, behind the walls, him and the rest of his comrades truly believed that humanity outside of the walls was pure, a goodness that none of them had ever experienced as they’d been fighting against humanoid giants that sat at the top of the food-chain, fighting EACH OTHER, even, in the underground, simply to live. in their eyes, the world beyond the walls was peace, a life full of freedom.

when it was revealed that there was a divide between the marleyans/rest of the world and the eldians, all hope had been lost. when it was revealed that the marleyans were the ones subjecting the islanders to be titan-food instead of saving them, reconciling with them, just because of something their ancestors had done that they had no recollection of, all hope had been disintegrated.

i will never understand the love for marley and the idea that both sides were as bad as each other. it’s stupid and dumb, and here’s why:

eldians were the ones that started it.

fine, agreed because king fritz was evil as fuck.

but by that logic, because eldians were the ones that started the war, years ago (might i add), shouldn’t the entire world be at war with EACH OTHER than with eldia?

the eldians that the marleyans were oppressing and abusing now had nothing to do with what their ancestors had done before.

so, using that logic that marleyans had the right to do what they’d done to the current eldians, shouldn’t south asians declare war against the current british for what they had done to their people BEFORE? shouldn’t the few native americans left declare war on the europeans because their ancestors had committed heinous crimes against their people? shouldn’t women from korea, china, vietnam, and more, punish current japanese men for what their ancestors had done to the past women of their countries in ww2?

see what i’m saying? why were marleyans punishing the current eldians for what their ancestors had done? something that they had no control over?

eren wanted a world where they didn’t have to fight for basic human rights. genocide is never the answer, but the scene where he grabs hange by her clothes and demands to know what other plan there is as a substitute proves his desperation: that he never wanted to kill so many people, that there was simply no other way. eldians would never be accepted in the outside world, no matter how hard they tried to convince them.

we also have to remember that he was up against the clock too. if they didn’t find a solution soon, he would have died anyway due to the 13 years he had to live. by the time his plan was set in stone, he only had 4 more years to live and the scouts didn’t really have a solid plan. they lived with the outside world, undercover, and never actually managed to find a solution that benefited everyone.

In the Menace timeline, I like the idea of Optimus playing dumb so he can get away with stuff. Like, if he's ever nice to an Eldian and a Marley tried to explain to him why he can't do that, he'd be all like, "But these are humans. What? Devils? What's a devil? Them? But they look and behave just like any other human. Their ancestors? But aren't humans born sinless and therefore have nothing to be ashamed of until a sin is actually committed? Hu. What a world this is." And it's not like anyone can really stop him from being friends with Eldians since he's a giant metal man from beyond the stars. Optimus would totally be, for now, at least, both a blessing and a curse.

Previous Episode of the Chaos Timeline

Marleyans: You can't just treat the Eldians like humans! They're devils.

Optimus: Well now I'm just going to treat them like humans even harder.

Literally, if anyone can get through to the brainwashed Eldians, it's Optimus.

So first indication of this alliance having a chance at working is Optimus talking to Willy, and they seem to hit it off after the first meeting when everyone else is at each other's throats. They do continue to talk and try to think of ways to come to a compromise, but Optimus quickly picks up on how the Eldians are treated by the Marleyans, both on his side and on their side. Optimus decides to ask Willy why the Eldians are treated horribly but he and Lara are treated with respect. He knows the answer, but wants to hear the answer from Willy to find out if he's lying. Willy explains what's been released to the public, that the Tyburs sided with Helos to end the Eldian Empire, which is why they're held in high regard. But Optimus is aware that Willy is hiding something but just doesn't answer on it.

Regardless, the treatment of the Eldians is not going to stand. Not while the Marleyans are on the island. So Optimus starts off small. Besides training the Warriors, He will do simple things like say hello to the Eldians, who quickly leave in fear and conditioning of the island devils. He'll offer to help them out with certain tasks, but they quickly say that they don't need it.

Optimus realizes that this will be more difficult than he thought. But he does come up with something that would beckon the ears of Marleyans and Eldians: himself and his stories. He's certain the Marleyans would want to know about him and his weaknesses. So as a offering for a break, he calls the Survey Corps over to tell them war stories, making sure that the Marleyans and Eldians hear about. Optimus gets the Survey Corps around a bonfire and tells them about his battles on Earth. And the Survey Corps are able to listen and forget their worries, even for a little while. And Optimus also notices the Eldians from Marley listening in, specifically the Warrior Cadets. Gabi thought that it would be a good idea to sneak around and gather intel to improve their standing with Marley, and the other three were dragged along for the ride.

Optimus still offers his help to the other Eldian soldiers whenever he can. However he can still hear the hushed whispers of Marleyans calling him a demon, wondering why the hell he was helping the Eldians, or something along the lines of "of course its a demon showing them compassion'. It's annoying to Optimus. But he now notices the Warrior Cadets following him around. He tries to say 'hello' but they quickly run off. The Survey Corps quickly notice how Optimus and start making bets on how quickly Optimus can win them over, because they need the support. It isn't until one of the Eldian soldiers is actually injured in an accident caused by a Marleyan that changes the Eldians' tune. Instead of the Marleyans helping and laughing at their misfortune, Optimus quickly rushes to their aid and take them to the infirmary, which stuns everyone on the side of the Marleyans, Eldians and Marleyans. Once Optimus is sure that the Eldian will make a full recovery, he's confronted by the Warrior Cadets, and they demand to know why he's been so nice to them.

"Do I need a particular reason?" Optimus asked.

"Well you're a devil! You're not supposed to be kind!" Gabi pointed at Optimus.

"Gabi!" Udo exclaimed.

"Well then, if a devil is not supposed to be kind, and I am being kind to you, does that really mean that I am a devil?" Optimus challenged her.

Causes Gabi to quickly shut up.

But after that particular incident there's been a particular change in tune with the Eldians relationship with Optimus. The Eldians have become more responsive to Optimus' interactions. It's more positive. The Marleyans don't like it and quickly try to remind the Eldians of their place. They're too scared to confront Optimus about it because he's a giant metal titan, so they take their anger and fear out on the next best thing. Optimus sees this, has enough, confronts Magath and Willy about it, and then exposes the truth about Karl Fritz because he figured it out during his spare time.

And because Optimus exposes them, it creates a divide within the Marleyan army and many Eldians seek out Optimus' protection because he's the only one that they can trust. Then Calvi tries to pull his stunt and that's a whole other thing going on. But Optimus' kindness is able to win the Eldians over.

Idc if LeviMika antis think the ship is gross. Technically, all Eldians are related to each other due to being descendants of Ymir the Founder. If Levi Ackerman and Mikasa Ackerman are "related" because of the same last name, then so are celebrities like Shaquille and Tatum for having the last name O'Neal. Besides, Levi and Mikasa have never referred to each as cousins or siblings. Nobody in the series has ever said that, or called them father/daughter or uncle/neice. Besides I like the ship because Mikasa doesn't suck up and gush over how strong Levi is like other characters do, and they're the only ones who can have sex with each other without shattering the other person's pelvis.

More musings on AoT Canon Verse

This time focusing on geopolitical interactions, immigration and such. Basically been thinking about this for the fic I've been dreaming of and the hyperfocus is deep y'all 😩 Pleeeease feel free to leave corrections or thoughts in comments, my dms/asks or reblog with commentary.

Concepts and thoughts on my Reader's potential background:

Reader's mom is from outside the Eldian/Marley empire and holds political power of her own through the ties of her father who is possibly a leading ambassador? Really want this version but with how it seems patriarchy is so pervasive in Marleyan society that if her mom was to marry into it somehow to put her in Marley long enough to form connections with the Warrior Candidates it just doesn't seem conceivable?

So her dad being Marleyan could be a potential still, but he'd have to be super progressive thinking. Or an implant spy like Kruger? Thought that's a shit ton of trauma and shit I don't know if I have the space to explore lmao

More likely her dad will be someone either military/diplomat from outside the Marley/Eldian reach of things, but for some reason does trade or work with Marley? Perhaps they're more a neutral country like Switzerland/Wakanda 👀 Cause reader's gonna have a smart mouth and progressive thoughts about the shit that's going on, so she'll need to be up in a family environment that will value that. Even if they're impressing upon her to not go talkin like that in public. Working from the inside to subvert things (sure know how that feels 🙃) — I think this would most likely lead to her mother being Marleyan? Cause like Marley folks seem xenophobic as heck/especially high gov officials so I feel like to walk around freely and not constantly be accosted she's gonna have to at least be part Marleyan. :/

I think this would also help her possibly relate to both Rei and Porco. One of her parents would have grown up in the Marley propaganda machine–even if somehow they avoided being completely indoctrinated and finding companionship and love with someone outside it to start a family.

One other thought is from the vague memory that other countries treat Eldians more like actual people and citizens than Marley. So perhaps her mom is Eldian, but escaped Marley via being a refugee or something else. This way she also, in some regard understands the Warriors on the terms of being oppressed. Which I feel like would be easier for me to hold mind space for and portray accurately.

With this I have to figure out a reason that her mother/parent would risk being found out and returning to Marley to give Reader opportunity to grow up with the Warriors :/

My other thoughts surrounding this is the culture of Reader's Nation being accepting of naturalizing refugees and such (what a utopia 😌/but also sheesh hard to comprehend given life) So once they arrive and go through a process they are now citizens of that country and maintain those legal rights when traveling. Even within Marley. Which would be a sticking point cause can't imagine they'd be ok with that. And they'd know this about this Nation's government to it would be difficult to just sneak in ya know? I'm sure there's other countries in verse with "white"/[cause we know this is an our world concept] folks but like what we mainly know are Eldians and Marleyan so if you can't walk the walk and talk the talk and have identifying papers of being Marleyan, then it ain't gonna fly living there.

There could be avenues of getting papers forged and falsifying connections to Marleyan family lines that are sympathetic to the cause? It's hinted that the doctor that helped Kruger falsify blood work was sympathetic so precedence for that. Also that reminds me that obviously they do blood tests! aiyiyi

Okay so prior to season four of aot I always had a name for the girl I would ship with Levi and ironically, her name was Marley.

But after season four came out I thought about a really cool fic idea.

Marley came over to Paradis way before any other Marlian did. She stayed there for a long time, joining the scouts, climbing up to Lieutenant position, and eventually falling in love with Levi.

She was sent away for a few years and was to return to Marley when she had enough information about the “devils”. She never knew Reiner, Bertholdt, or Annie were Marlians since she never met them back at home. She, like Bertholdt, realizes that she enjoys being around the scouts and “devils”.

But all came crumbling down when they discovered that there were people trying to kill them from a country called “Marley”.

So in my mythology class we’re studying Norse mythology at the moment and now I know what Attack on Titan was based on. So in Norse mythology the first giant was called Ymir. Giants are basically titans and all the Eldians are referred to as children of Ymir and are the only ones who can turn into titans. Then back to Norse mythology when Ymir is killed by Odin they made a Great Wall with his body to protect humanity. There’s the wall in Attack on Titan that is there to protect humanity and ALSO MADE OUT OF TITANS AKA THE GIANT YMIR
