ive always been confused as to why people ship edxling, it feels so random. nothing against it, it just feels like one of those ships with no basis in canon and is just people wanting to ship two dudes because its gay. also i noticed edxling shippers basically ignore winry and lan fan's existence. so i wanted to ask you, since you seem to really like the ship but also are knowledgeable on fma beyond just shipping, why exactly do people ship edxling and why is it more popular than lingxlanfan?

okk so i DO NAUT know if i'm really the BEST person to answer this cuz i'm rly into a specific niche of ling/ed and not much interested in them as a couple during canonverse (post-canon boys ofc, as i'm known for ^_^)!!!! but i'll like... try to answer why i THINK people like it (′︿‵｡)

○ PART 1. - HOW THEY INTERACT IN CANON

ed and ling have a (relatively) strong basis in canon! they actually often interact from the time they meet, getting more screen-time or time to be around each other in canon than some other characters we see associated with them. and i think the widest appeal most people get from them is that they're boys in the same rough situation around the same age so they can relate to each other, so just the main concept behind their interactions as characters?

i also think a big thing with the interest in them is interpretation. a lot of people kind of feed off of crumbs in canon and view them a certain way which wasn't originally intended but is nice (and entertaining!) to view in a romantic light lol

i personally know that ofc, my main interest with them as a PAIRING isn't in canon but more post-canon starting with ling as emperor and ed ambiguous where there's more interpretation for how they turn out, how they would interact with each other; since they're essentially a blank slate if i wanted to fiddle with a few things whereas with other pairings in fma i can't really do that with because their roles are definitely set and i have to jump over hoops unless i just want to make something not resembling the epilogue in that regard which, if i'm not very interested, makes things difficult for me to really care for a couple which is a big appeal for me imo for them (but i'll stop rambling about that because it's hyperspecific as a writer and getting to analyze the characters and tear them down). so most of why i care for them is really just my interpretation of them and that's why i can't really speak much for why other people are into the pairing

another part of it is tropes..... i think tropes are a BIG one for a lot of people :-) you've got a makeshift and universally accepted sun and moon dynamic with the canon yin and yang colour scheme, you have idiots/idiots, royalty/commoner (who defies the regular trope just by being an asshole and ling not really giving a shit about the royalty thing beyond the principal of him being born into it alone so it isn't tacky ya novel tropey), tall/small, foodie x foodie, battle couple, and just them being a generally normal couple beyond their lives being a gd trainwreck with their positions and shared traumas because the dudes are just kind of chilling out personality-wise with how they act towards each other. they're The Buds Of All Time In Canon If You're Into A More BROTP SItuation™.

there's opportunity for pretty much any genre with them as well in regards to the most simplest categories of angst and fluff because they're both dorks and, as is fma, have Loads Of Baggage and can butt heads if you so wanted to set that situation up :o) they're very flexible characters when it comes to a dynamic!

○ PART 2. - I MEAN YEAH THEY'RE GAY I GUESS

yeah they gay keep scrolling :o))) i don't really have much to say about this one beyond personal takes because i see a lot of people going "people are just shipping this because it's gay!" about literally any m/m or w/w pairing ever and like....... as a gay man i just.... like seeing characters be gay, i don't see issues with that unless it's people fetishizing my identity. i don't want to go too deep into this one because it's more just my personal feelings as a gay man when i hear this sort of thing whereas i usually don't care unless asked out of someone's morbid curiosity

it's one of those things where i think most of the fandom just likes seeing themselves represented and i think worrying about people ONLY liking them from them being a male/male ship isn't an issue at all that you need to really worry about tbf

again it's just one of those things where i think if a person's reasoning for it is "it's gay i like it" is because they identify with the identity they assign to the characters in some way, just like giving an interpretation, so i could care less really........... most of the appeal i'd feel is them looking at ed and ling both and going wow they're both boys and they can relate to each other and they've been through a lot together in the span of canon, and they're (maybe) my favourite characters! i wonder what they'd be like as a couple?

or they fall into the aforementioned trope thing, etc and i honestly don't think that's a big part of it it's just an "oh i like them" thing. it's like picking out barbies at the store like i couldn't really care less if that were the case and if that is a personal issue it's one that shouldn't really be an issue just in a "minding your own business" way

○ PART 3. - NOT CARING IS A WARCRIME

honestly in terms of ling/ed enjoyers "typically" not caring about winry and lan fan, i haven't seen that, like... much if at all but that might only be because i DO NOT interact with the edling enjoyers in this fandom outside of like two other people that aren't me, one of whose favourite characters jump between lan fan and winry when i actually like them a lot myself... because.... they're the girlies of all time

(also i suck at paying attention and i don't mean to it's just a Thing That I Do)

most people into them though that i've observed (at least recently which is kind of skewered since ling/ed content only happens every gd blue moon we are fighting for our gd lives out here it's usually only a few people actually consistently posting on social media beyond casual writers on ao3) usually like edwin and lingfan, put them in a polycule, stir until well mixed, or actually draw/write/like one or the other MORE than them because edling is one of those things where it's like most of us go "well cool! i'll do a thing for this and probably never again" which is COOL and amazing but it's mostly one of those things we look at collectively and go well theyre neat. anyways,

like i don't ONLY focus on ships or certain characters in fullmetal alchemist as a watching/reading experience while definitely having favourites and i usually don't pay attention to people who only do so that............... that might be my issue here.........! :o) give me the clown nose boys

also when it comes to 'ignoring' winry and lan fan i don't think there's much of a basis when it comes to ignoring them because some people might just not really care for them as characters and honestly that's their cup of tea, not much to really get curious or worried about; same with their respective ships

while i personally ADORE lingfan winfan and winpan and can talk about them for a while i don't really care for edwin much because i'm not into childhood friends to lovers and i don't much care for how they were written in canon. it's just a matter of preference really with anything, and on the topic of wondering why lingfan isn't as popular i simply think it's a matter of them being less popular characters and the reason they DO get as much content as they do at all is likely because they're implied to be canon in the same boat royai is

...because ed and roy are, ofc, the titular characters in the franchise :-)

edling/linged being more popular i feel is a case of "edward is the protag that most of the fanbase will cling to immediately therefore it's popular" and people attract to it because if into it they WILL usually want to headcanon him as bi or gay and have a ship catered to their interests to view him in that light

being cross-platform with twitter, ao3, and tumblr altogether i've seen more of people asking why people are into the pairing or saying people into the pairing are overbearing than literally any content or people actually talking abt the gd dudes because it's again.... it's.... it's literally just like six of us locked in this homosexual little room altogether, me included, speaking from experience because i have been Producing Content For Them Consistently For A Few Years Now! Most Of What You're Seeing Is Either Years Old Or Just Word Of Mouth, Goddammit

obviously i'm not gonna toot my own horn about being dramatic over being into a pairing and be like 'fullmetal alchemist fandom.... UNITE to create edling content!' because it isn't worth my time and i'm not THAT invested in them, especially not more than the series itself since it's far more intriguing and open for possibilities to me without romance at all, but like guys we r people just vibing we just think they're neat

○ PART 4. - CONCLUSION TO MY... THESIS

i actually have no idea how long this is or where i was going with this but i tried to address anything from the ask! yeah no i don't really care about debating these guys on the internet or anything about the fandom at all and i try to avoid it the best i can but this just seemed like a question so hopefully this sated ur curiosity anon :^) thank you for letting me rant about my blorbos and hopefully u don't think any part of this was meant to be condescending

obviously no one has to be into these guys but hopefully this helped u understand a bit from my experience :o)

TL;DR: i think people are into it mostly because of how they interact, wanting to project their own identities onto their favourite characters, tropes, and enjoying the character dynamics together! can't really talk about the lan fan and winry situation because i haven't noticed it and i don't think ling and lan fan being less popular is something to get worked up about, relatively

ACTUAL TL;DR: none of the points i've made are relevant to the ship in my personal opinion there is no reason for this post to even Exist. i just like them because i think they're cool. sometimes you don't need a reason u just like them. the pairing doesn't have to be interesting, can be Average or Mid™ just don't be a dick and don't be outwards about that sort of thing with your thoughts in that regard as is common courtesy

I can't get over this scene and image. Like already it HURT ME to watch, especially live, it hurts to watch again after the fact. Even when watching streamers react to it, I still cry.

But... the implications of it that I don't see people talking about much.. is that this is the HEART of the facility. GL!Ranboo dies, at the center of Showfall Media. As the actual creator of Generation Loss, Ranboo themself is the literal heart of the show!! It's their story, their ideas, their SHOW!

And now, GL!Ranboo has died and become one with the heart of Showfall Media, become also a literal heart of the show. Possibly freed from the cycle, but still a major part of it.

Ranboo has said he wouldn't be the main protagonist or really acting in any future generations at this moment, as he more enjoys the writing aspect. And this moment? Well I think that it's showing that in a literal sense. Even if not intentionally.

GL!Ranboo's time as an actor for Showfall ended, the audience set him free through death. But.. physically they are one with the heart of Showfall forever, continuing to fuel the show in a sense. Which in canon is horrifying GL!Ranboo will forever be one with Showfall, maybe even becoming the power source or idea source for future shows. As a reflection to how the real Ranboo is the driving force behind Genloss and already has a bunch of ideas in store for the future generations.

Ranboo has also said they were going to use the box again potentially, to get their money's worth of course. Now that could be for stream bits or videos! But it most likely could be for other generations, showing maybe other characters getting their heads crushed.. the next generation is suppose to be more religious themed. As well the box seemed to be designed like it had been used before GL!Ranboo's head was crushed. But I think it could be used to show GL!Ranboo is still a part of Showfall as the heart of the company, still stuck to a wall. If they went that route of course.

...Oh god they literally got crucified, and got "resurrected" to become one with god/the show runners. Like ths probably wasn't the intentional take away from this scene, but OH GOD THE IMPLICATIONS!! Always think of the implications!!!!

Like do y’all think he sees these people trapped in their own bodies by the power he wields and he can hear them begging for release from this existence, to be put to rest, and has to pretend he doesn’t? When he tells Blade he can’t give him the burial he desires it’s in a mocking tone but do you think he knows he can’t because he’s tried with other Mara-struck? He’s shown to have a habit of helping others in little ways like helping the clowns out of the ditch or buying the book with the spoiler to tear out the page, do you think he’d help anonymously communicate a Mara-struck’s last words to their families if he can? Do you think that’s one of the reasons he wants to kill Yaoshi?

Descend to me, my Morning Star (Part 1)

A/N: This is basically an AU heavly inspired by the Luceafăr poem! I should be studying it for exams but it just reminds me so much of Lucifer that I had to write it..

Synopsis: MC is part of a royal family while Lucifer is the star they call on each night so they could be together. But one is mortal stuck to earth while the other belongs to the sky, how will they manage to make their relationship last? Especially when the royal magician keeps pursuing MC?

There was once upon a time

Like it was never before

Born from a powerful king and a beautiful queen

A human like no other.

They got both the power and the beauty of their parents and were beloved by others.

But even with all of that, they seemed oh so distant. Their eyes always looking at the sky, like they were waiting for someone to come.

This is the story of a royal heir that fell for an angel, a star. But could they transcend their human nature and live their happy ever after, or will they find their happiness in someone else and remain mortal?

MC shivered as the breeze of the night hit their skin. Their nightwear was thin, not ment to protect from the cold of the night. It was made so it wouldn't bother the young royal's sleep, something they should be doing at that hour.

But instead, they were staring expectedly, looking at the stars. Out of all of them, one was shining the brightest, the Morning star. From dawn to even past sunrise, if one looked at the sky they could see it, but only during the night, its light was the brightest.

It was often told, in human legends, passed through generations, that stars are actually the angels looking to protect humanity. Most would think those are only empty legends, stories to tell children and a subject for poets to write about. Few were those that knew how to call those angels down to earth, if only for a short time.

"Descend down here, my Morningstar, thou cast your light on me, and spend the night right here with me." Learned by heart, MC recited the charm that was thought to them by the star himself.

As the words left their mouth, the light in the room started to waver, a figure slowly appearing. At first it was only multiple pair of wings, shifting into one another. Their mind could never comprehend this form of his at this stage, that's why he always took the form of a human, more or less.

"Lucifer, you're finally here." MC ran and hugged him tightly, burying their face into the crook of his neck. At first glance he appeared human, but his cold red eye, his pale skin that seemed to radiate a soft light and his six wings were a dead give away.

"Why wouldn't I be here, my love, after all you were the one to call me." He returned their hug and wrapped all six of his wings around them, shielding them from the cold of the night.

For how intimidating his wings looks, they were extremely soft and warm to touch. Looking around Lucifer observed how they have already prepared tea and something to eat for his visit. Sighing, he kisses their head and goes to pour himself some tea. "You didn't have to prepare all of this for me, your body is already starting to feel the effects of losing sleep. You really shouldn't push yourself like that, you're only human after all."

MC rolled their eyes but couldn't help the smile on their face at his worry. "You worry too much. At this rate I might have to start calling you the Anxiety star instead of Morning star." Lucifer shook his head at their attempt of a joke but if MC looked closer, they would see the corner of his mouth twitch up.

"You're just as reckless and with no regards of the rules as my younger brothers, you truly would get along with them.." At the mention of his brothers, MC's ears perked up. Lucifer rarely spoke of his home. At most, he would tell some stories about his brothers or complain about work passed on by Michael, but even then, he was sure to keep things vague.

Most of their nights were focused on MC and how he could make them feel good. All his attention was on them. Most of the time, his touch was more than welcomed, his embrace always made them feel safe. But there were some times were his touch would serve as a reminder that he was not mortal. MC couldn't always describe this feeling, after all, humans didn't have it in their vocabulary to describe the touch of beings beyond their comprehension.

As much as they have both tried, the disconnection that came from being fundamaetally different, would make its presence known at the worst time at possible.

"Say, Lucifer, what are your brothers like? You always talk with so much fondness about them, it's clear as day that they mean a lot to you." Seeing the pleading look on MC face, he couldn't bring himself to refuse them. It was an innocent enough request and it was natural that they were curious about his family.

"Where should I begin...all of them can be quite the headache to deal with, always running around doing whatever they want." Just thinking about all the trouble his younger brother can cause make his head hurt. "But they can also be nice, when they try..."

Hours passed, as he shared stories of his brothers. MC didn't really intervene outside of a few questions and jokes. As much as he claimed that his brothers were trouble makers, he did love them dearly. He would have probably went to talk about them even more if it weren't for MC nearly collapsing for exhaustion.

Despite their protest of not being tired he gently led them to their. "I've told you to take better care of yourself. You're body can only last with so many hours of sleep being lost." MC was too tired to actually argue and deep down, they knew he was right, so they complied with his request to go to sleep.

"Please stay with me a little more, until I fall asleep. I don't want to be alone just yet." MC grabbed the sleeve of his shirt and tried to tug him into bed with them. Giving a kiss on their forehead, he made himself comfortable into their bed. "I will be here to hold you until you drift off to sleep, so now hurry up and do it. You need all the sleep you can get."

MC mumbled some things he couldn't quite catch on as they fell asleep. Despite being so close to his loved one he couldn't relax. These meetings they keep on having can't go on. While to Lucifer it's not that hard to keep coming down on earth for their call, MC's body couldn't keep on going with sleepless nights and day dreams throughout the day.

They deserve to have an actual relationship, where they can be together as much as they want and not only on borrowed time. They both deserve that. To not have to hide and keep this whole affair a secret. At least on MC's part. All of Lucifer's brothers knew what was going on after one night they have decided to spy on him. His Father was also aware of his frequent visits to a certain human.

He was so caught up in his thoughts about how to resolve the situation, that he didn't realize that the night has passed and the sun's light was illuminating the room. Casting one last glance at his lover, he disappeared into the sky again, where he could think of a way to make their relationship be an actual thing, that didn't need to be hidden.

Recentering the story on Albert really changes the whole thing on a fundamental level I don't think I understood the first time I watched Gankutsuou. Because it's not about Edmond and Edmond's vengeance anymore. It's about the Count doing to Albert what was done to him.

I hated the duel the first time I watched it, because it's one of my favorite scenes in the book and they change everything and make it worse. But it's because the story is about Albert, so the character that dies to change the trajectory of the story can't be Édouard anymore, it has to be someone Albert cares about. And changing the duel is one of the easiest ways to get this to happen.

It still tears down everything I loved about the original, but I get it.

ten (almost eleven now) pm rambling about my fic 'the things you can't live without' because I am going insane and need to talk about a specific thing about it or I'll explode.

When Ford was dying in Stan's arms, I didn't make him visibly angry about being brought back home. Except for like a brief moment where he touches on the risk of bringing him back, but not yelling or belittling him directly for it. Even thanking Stan for letting him see him once more before giving up the ghost.

Maybe it's completely obvious to everyone else why I did that, but it was because Ford knew he was going to die and he was too weak and tired to gather the energy needed for anger. And... I think seeing how distressed Stan was while trying to save him would've actually made an actively dying Ford not want his last moments spent on dumb grudges, to not force Stan to remember the moment as one filled with anger. So his last words were his earnest attempt at keeping everything okay between them for Stan's sake, since Ford wasn't long for the world anyway. And at that moment, he really meant the words more than anything, regardless of what he would've been angry about had he not been gravely injured. regardless of any pretense.

idk, Ford doesn't seem to me like he would be so angry that he would die in Stan's arms while loudly hating him. maybe I'm silly and presumptuous, but I like to think he'd push aside his grudge in the moment of dying in that instance. just knowing the grudge wasn't worth it while facing his very real mortality, and feeling any attempts at anger wash away as he's cradled in Stan's arms and hearing his panicked words and realizing how much he was loved and deciding to genuinely reciprocate because this was his twin who loved him and every bit of anger didn't matter anymore because he's now home and seeing his twin after thirty painfully long years he didn't know he was missing him for due to bitterness.

ugh and how his final 'i love you' was broken by his death, the last word only airily whispered in the last breath... just making me insane man. this whole fic is making me insane. and it's mine so what's my excuse?

anyway, rambling done. twas nice to release the feelings I'm having about Ford while he's dying in Stan's arms in my fic.

what's your wackiest, craziest, most "out there" w359 headcanon?

... i've been really trying to think of something, but i don't know if i have one! what makes headcanons fun for me is in applying what we already know about them to other situations, like, extrapolating their quirks and habits and preferences and opinions on things. even when i talk about stuff the show doesn't explore, i try to keep that grounded in existing characterization and themes, so... i don't know! if i thought something was really out there, that'd mean i don't see the basis for it, so it wouldn't be a headcanon for me? if that makes sense. i wish i had more of an answer!

Hinata is actually good at English.

However, Karasuno at the time did not have enough resources -- it taught English through textbooks and focused on grammar and reading, and it could not afford an English-speaker to practice speaking with the students.

Hinata learns best by speaking with natives, and worst by memorizing endless formulas and knowledge in books, obviously as he struggled in other subjects. Things were so bad he had to ask Yachi for tutoring and help him memorize English's arbitrary grammar rules. He thought he could not learn English.

Until he went to Brazil. He was scared, since he could not learn English - the language of the world - well. Until he met Oikawa, who is fluent in Spanish, Portuguese, and English, who spoke English, Portuguese and Spanish with him for Hinata to learn the language. Hinata was surprised he could learn these languages so easily, and realized that he was bad at English because of the school's way of teaching him, and that he needed to use English in practice often to master it.

how is ayato treated as the more important sibling when hes the regular butt of everyone's joke daily? ayaka gets wayyy better treatment than him

Ayato is the more common fan favorite of a sibling - regardless if he's the butt of any jokes, EVERYTHING in the Inazuman archon quests were of Ayaka's doing yet I constantly see her side stepped and Ayato treated as if he holds far more power than her being the technical head of the household, despite both of them being important political figures both with their own influences. Every other character in this game is the butt of some sort of joke but the bottom line was that I see immense dick riding and glorification of his existence, when his story quest was boiled down to being about everybody but him and he had genuine zero purpose in the general story aside from being the leader of the Shuumatsuban, which is a role Ayaka just as well could fufil. The point is I see far more Ayato fans and glorification, when the most I see of Ayaka nine times out of ten is either gross Aether harem content, or forehead jokes.

As to Ayaka's characterization I cannot fucking comprehend how. Wrong, that feels? Never once does she say "why won't people be my friends :(" she says that she understands her position of power and idolization is an important one and an isolating one where she HAS relationships but she feels nothing can be a REAL friendship like any other person could have because it will ALWAYS boil down to her status as a political figure, and she desperately wanted to befriend the traveler because they were the one person as an outlander she could be a real friend with and not connect it back to her status. She understands why she cannot have many friends and it is a sorrow she internalizes and wishes to share with the ONE person who she can.

There's no male character that goes "w-w-w-w-w-why is nobody my friend :(" and neither is there a female one, because Ayaka does not ask why she has no friends, she's fucking lonely because she understands she cannot have many. I want to be really mean nonnie but I just. It feels a bit like you're proving the point of the whole post - which was Ayaka, along with these other two, being boiled down to underappreciated mischaracterizations when the men who play similar or lesser roles are far more glorified.

okay look I know I've talked about this at length already but I've seen a ton of people talk about how they don't like whiskey peak and how they think it wasn't necessary for zoro and luffy to fight like that or straight up think it was ooc of them, but then the same people will turn around and go "isn't it fascinating how zoro's the only one who can say no to luffy or nearly order him around or that luffy waits for the opinion of before acting for no apparent reason it must be because they are soulmates" and honestly for real I'm the first to subscribe to the zoro and luffy soulmates thought but the reason why zoro can do all that is whiskey peak. that is the moment zoro took a decision that benefited the whole crew without asking luffy first for the first time, and that is the moment luffy unjustly doubted him without implicitly trusting his judgement, and that is the moment luffy learned that actually sometimes zoro sees what's best for the crew before he does and that trusting him to always act with the crew's best interests in mind is something he should do. zoro had never opposed luffy or acted without his consent in any way before whiskey peak and luffy never doubts him and always turns to him ever since, there is direct correlation between the two zoro and luffy didn't learn to trust each other and respect each other through a magical soulbond connection their relationship is actually pretty damn well developed

I'd like to talk about AC2, more precisely how Giovanni traveled so much before the 29th. Google maps says the Travel times are as follows by bike (which I estimate is like a horse) Florence -> Milan 18.5hrs, Milan ->Venice 16hrs 10 min, Venice -> Florence 15hrs, Florence ->Rome 17hrs, and then back to Florence for another 17hrs. In total 83 hours and 40 minutes. That's not counting how long he was in each location. When did this guy eat or sleep in between all this? Fanfic research at the max.

Okay, so I was faced with a similar problem with the traveling Altaïr did in AC1 because he used a horse, sure, but AC1 happened from June to September and the whole hunt for the nine was around July to September so, yeah, nine targets (ten actually) in the span of 3 months is kinda questionable.

WARNING: This post mentions pushing a horse passed its limit and a disregard for the horse’s health. I will include a trigger for animal cruelty as well in the tags to cover all my basis. Again, this is all theoretical and I try not to be descriptive but, yeah, please prioritize your mental health and do not read this if you believe it will be detrimental to you or would make your day worse.

Moving on!

According to this website:

Walk: 6~ish km/hr.

Trot (from a different website): 12 km/hr (although there is a record of 30 km/hr, this is an outlier and will not be added to our guesstimate)

Canter: 16~27 km/hr which is around the ballpark of an average cyclist’s speed (23~29 km/hr)

Gallop: 40~48 km/hr. (which is just below a lot of speed limits)

However, we must also take into consideration the horse’s stamina.

According to this website, a horse can cover the following distance:

Walk: 51 km without break.

Trot: 32~64 km without break.

Canter: 11 km without break.

Gallop: 3~4 km without break.

So if we take these into consideration, you’d get the following before being forced to make the horse take a break.

Walk: 51 km in 8.5 hours before needing a break.

Trot: We will use the average of 32~64 which is 48 km in 4 hours before needing a break.

Canter: For canter, we will use the average of 16 to 27 km/hr in our calculations which is 21.5 km/hr so 11 km in 0.5 hr (30 minutes) before needing a break.

Gallop: We will use 4 for the approximate 3~4 km and the average of 40~48 km/hr which will give us 44km/hr to give Gallop a chance. So 4 km in 0.09 hr (approximately 5ish minutes) before needing a break.

According to this website, the best way to keep the horse moving without tiring it too quickly is to switch between 2 gaits so let’s try and find the ‘best’ combination.

Okay, now, I can’t find a website that can tell me how many hours or minutes a horse needs before changing back to a more exhausting gait so let’s say Giovanni makes his horse switch gaits at a similar time period as the max of the highest speed we’ll have in the combination. Feel free to correct me on this one (actually, feel free to correct me on any of these, I only sat on a horse once and I was a kid so I don’t even remember it all that well).

We will always start with the lower speed to give the horse a chance to ease into the higher speed and calculate the distance they cover in 1 hr.

Walk + Trot: (6 × 4) + (12 × 4) = 24 + 48 = 72 km per 8 hr = 9 km/hr

Walk + Canter: 3 + 11 = 14 km/hr

Walk (0.1 km per min) + Gallop: 0.5 + 4 = 4.5 km per 5 min = 0.9 per min = 0.9 × 60 = 54 km/hr

Trot + Canter: 6 + 11 = 17 km/hr

Trot (0.2 km per min) + Gallop: 1 + 4 = 5 km per 5 min = 1 km/min = 60 km/hr

Canter (0.36 km per min) + Gallop: 1.8 + 4 = 5.8 km per 5 min = 1.6 km/min = 69.6 (nice) km/hr

(I am soooo regretting doing all these calculations. Pretty sure I fucked some of the calculations up so just think of these as guesstimates)

In conclusion:

Canter + Gallop will give an average of 69 km/hr.

A possible more reasonable choice: Trot + Gallop will give an average of 60 km/hr.

We will go pick Trot + Gallop to give the horse a break (sorta). Walk + Gallop is not accepted because, while 54 km/hr is not a bad number, it will be hard on the horse to change to super fast and then walk every 5 minutes.

Now then, before we continue, we would need to specify the distance Giovanni took. Now, it should be noted that the landscape we have today is not the same landscape they would have had during the 15th century. Not to mention, using Google Map’s bike/car directions makes you use roads that may or may not have existed during that time.

So let’s say that Giovanni is hurrying and doesn’t give a shit about the actual roads (or, he’s like me who sees a road and go “nah, we’re crossing this fucking wheat field, sorry NPCs, should have planted rice!”), this would cut down some km on his travel.

To do this in Google Map, you have to right-click on your starting point and click ‘Measure Distance’ instead of clicking ‘Directions’.

Now, using this feature, we have a rough estimate of the distance he traveled if he traveled straight. (Again, this is highly questionable but we’re giving Giovanni the advantage on this one just to give the lore a chance to make sense because Ubisoft certainly ain’t gonna do it)

Florence to Milan: approximately 237 km.

Milan to Venice: approximately 244 km.

Venice to Florence: approximately 128 km.

Using Trot + Gallop’s 60 km/hr would give us:

Florence to Milan: 3.95 hrs travel time.

Milan to Venice: 4 hrs travel time.

Venice to Florence: 2 hrs travel time.

In total: approximately 9.95 hrs travel time for Florence → Milan → Venice.

With these travel times, it can be argued that the horse did not need to take a break the entire time it was traveling (but this would be heavily advisable). If you wish to make the horse take a break (you should), add 1 hr for each.

Now, if we were being nice to the horse and don’t think Giovanni is a ‘some sacrifices must be made in the interest of time’ kind of asshole, we’ll use Trot + Canter’s 17 km/hr which will give us:

Florence to Milan: 13.9 hrs travel time.

Milan to Venice: 14.3 hrs travel time.

Venice to Florence: 7.5 hrs travel time.

In total: approximately 35.7 hrs travel time for Florence → Milan → Venice.

The horses need a break for all of these so I would suggest adding 1 or 2 hrs for each.

Ending Remarks:

Ubisoft made Giovanni Auditore a bad owner of horses to make him a cool Assassin. Also, horses go fast and should be treated with care and respect.

Things to consider:

It’s possible that it would have been faster to take a boat from Venice to Forli then travel to Florence like the reverse route Ezio used in AC2.

Giovanni can cut down his time even further by just letting the horse gallop the entire way and changing horses whenever he can. Of course, this doesn’t take into consideration the health and safety of the horses and the possibility that Giovanni will get a ‘bad’ horse when he changes horses.

I've been rereading hxh and I come to chapter 210 where Biscuit says this:

And it just clicks me. Maybe I'm late to realize (I'm definitely late), whose words are similar to Biscuit's?

Illumi.

I mean, yes okay, unlike Illumi, Biscuit doesn't exactly say Killua will kill Gon. But that's how it's gonna work on Killua's brain, I think. From someone who knows him well even though he's on the 'antagonist' side (Illumi) to someone from his side who might not know him very well (Biscuit), both of them tell him that staying beside Gon will only leave one option: Gon dies.

I just realized it because, I used to not really understand why Killua believes Biscuit that much. Killua respects Biscuit, sure, but just in a "she's a nen master" way, I don't think Killua respects Biscuit in a way he would listen to her friendship advice. The parallel between Biscuit's words and Illumi's words explains so much.

It also doesn't help to Killua how both of them tell him what he should do next:

To not see Gon again.

I understand where Biscuit's coming from. She's trying to help him break Illumi's spells from him, but she also doesn't know Illumi's words. She doesn't know she's saying very similar words to Killua. She doesn't know how deep the effect of her words is.

But her words are triggering him(and I don't really blame her—she doesn't know. Illumi and Silva are at fault), and that's probably one of (among many other) reasons why he was so shaken up in this arc from start to finish. And I probably should finish CA arc & Election arc first before saying anything else, but maybe, maybe Killua finds some comfort in having to take care of Alluka because he finally has another, more acceptable reason to part ways with Gon.

There’s a certain kind of common post on this website that goes *yes, [story premise that is common and popular and might reasonably support a full plot] but what about [consequences of story premise that really only has vibes]*

And usually the OP is kind enough to expand on this thought, about what the consequences might be (but not always), but I come away from those posts thinking, “okay, and what else?”

And in my experience there isn’t an answer, the described ‘consequences ’ premise doesn’t get much farther than that text post. There’s no more meat on those bones. When I try to think of how one might make a full movie or novel out of that concept… it can be done, but it would take a great deal of skill to keep it engaging and not start to lag, because if you’re plot is entirely *long form dealing with aftermath of the far more kinetic thing* you’ve gotta be damn good to not bore people and make them want to see that way more interesting concept instead

Probably why this is such a common fandom thing, and less so in original work. Easy for 800 word one shot about pre existing plot and characters to grapple with feelings only, a lot harder with an original story and original characters to revolve only around ‘far more interesting story happening in the next room over’ (again, can be done, there’s a boom for this very thing is isekai rn, but to be done successfully? Harder.)

Which is why when you do see original media focusing on ‘the emotions and consequences of it all’ the premise is always DEEPLY mundane. Death. Abuse. Depression. War fits in here somewhere, but only partway. Original media would much rather talk about the fantastical time loop though- how can you make a story about the consequences of a time loop when you don’t know what the loop looked like?

And if you’re going to make a sequel… you better put that motherfucker back in a time loop

But anyway something something fandom something something the One-Shots something something the modern desire to experience catharsis over experiencing new things
