a big theme in marx/engels is the "socialisation of production" under capitalism; it comes up in capital, obviously, but also in a lot of shorter works, including eg socialism: utopian and scientific. it refers to the integration of formerly bespoke, domestic, individual productive labour into industrialised, public, mass production whose paradigm case is the industrial textile factory in contrast to women's household production of fabric goods. this is essential to capitalisms ability to reap the efficiency benefits of economies of scale, and to its formation of a large cohesive working class responsible for the tasks of production, while coming at the cost of making any given individual's level of contribution to overall output imprecise and illegible. it stands in contrast to medieval feudal production, in which it makes more sense to think of the labouring peasants as a large number of individualised workers whose productivity scales more or less linearly wrt man-hours of work

marx/engels dont see this process as essentially good per se; they clearly regard it as a very serious exacerbator of exploitation and class inequality. but it is for them bound up with the possibility of a communist transition: the efficiency and wide-scale social integration afforded by socialisation are an important part of what lays the groundwork for a transition to socialism/communism under an organised working class, and it is why socialism was hitherto at best a pious wish detached from economic reality. so in this sense capitalist socialisation is a (latently) revolutionary development, and opposition to it is reactionary

this marxist attachment to the socialisation of production goes hand in hand with a suspicion of peasants and small-scale artisans (both often falling under the reviled heading of "petite bourgeois"). theirs is a form of production incompatible with socialisation: insofar as they are peasants or small-scale artisans rather than proletarians, their way of life is inimical to mass, industrialised, divided labour, and thus is inherently reactionary. this was a source of major friction between marx/engels and other less "scientific" socialists of the time, such as proudhon, who saw in individual artisans a preferable alternative to industrial capitalist barons. and this why ppl talking about marx spinning in his grave over bespoke seamstress hobbyists getting paid poorly are being idiots: handwringing over the payment due to such small-scale, unsocialised producers is antithetical to his core revolutionary beliefs

Khan's eyes fell onto Scott who shook his head in disbelief, which made the smile on the man's face grew even wider.

"It hasn't been ten years! My time's not up yet!"

At that, the man in black just shook his head, chuckling coldly.

"Oh, but it is. On Kliruik IV exactly ten years have passed today."

The moment realization hit Scotty, his heart sank to his stomach. And his pulse started to race.

Scotty shook his head. It had only been three years of his life!

Both men looked at the doctor.

The Scotsman swallowed hardly. Tears formed in his eyes as a feeling of guilt and regret washed over his body.

"Scotty?"

Leonard looked at his fiancé expectantly, arms crossed.

"I... I'm so sorry, Leonard. I... I meant to tell ye, I really did, but..."

But what? Why had he never told his love about what he had done for him?

Maybe... because had been scared. And... because he had thought that he'd have time to find a way.

"What? What did you mean to tell me?" Leonard's eyes narrowed in confusion.

Khan vanished for a moment, only to reappear right behind Scott a moment later.

"Tell him, honey. Tell him the truth."

A cold whisper touched Scotty's ear and he trembled.

"Khan... is... is a demon. And I... made a deal with him."

For a moment, silence fell over the room. Scotty just stared at Leonard, some tears starting to fall.

And Leonard? He opened his mouth to say something, but no words came out.

"When... ye were sick back then on the mission and... and Christine said that ye'd die... I had no choice."

Carefully, Scotty took a few steps forward, grabbing both of his fiancé's hands.

"I... I didn't want to lose ye."

Leonard blinked a few times, before he shook his head.

"What... what does he mean by payment?"

The doctor glanced at the demon, before he looked back into his love's sad eyes.

"Oooo, now comes the best part."

Scotty heard Khan's gleeful voice behind him and he closed his eyes. It wasn't fair. It just wasn't fair!

"Scotty..."

When he heard Leonard's plead, he looked up again.

"My... soul."

It was not much more than a mere whisper leaving the Scotsman's mouth. It barely managed to pass the lump in his throat.

"You... sold your soul to a demon to save me?"

A nod was all he could manage, before he fell into Leonard's arms and hugged him tightly.

He had been just so selfish. He had only thought of his own feelings.

And now... Leonard would have to go through what he had been scared of.

He'd have to live without Scotty.

"This... this is impossible. There... there are no demons."

At Leonard's disbelieving murmurs, Khan laughed even more.

Khan snapped his fingers and Scotty was pulled away from Leonard by an invisible force.

"Time to take what's mine."

Leonard wanted to protest. Scotty could see it. But before his fiancé could make the mistake of selling his own soul, Khan already raised his hand.

An unbearable pain filled the Scotsman's body as his soul was torn out of it. It burned and ached and he knew that he'd be punished for all the guilt he felt.

His soul would be tormented for all eternity... and he'd never know if Leonard ever forgave him.

Mel hissed as Mari applied ointment on his injuries. A swollen cheek, cracked lips, several cuts and bruises all over, he even seemed to have sprained his ankle as well, though he wasn't certain of that, not when the only pain he can feel is from his other foot that had glass shards lodged into it earlier. It was quite an unfair fight, 5 people with some wielding weapons, a bat, brass knuckles, or whatever. Yet even with those advantages, they still lost, pathetically running with tails between their legs.

“Aight, ya got any excuse bout this?” Mari continued to tend to his wounds, one of her pals saw him and ran to get her. So here they are, in one of their hideouts closest to the area. There was a small frown on her face, he can't quite tell if she's mad at him or the people he fought.

He merely stayed silent, he didn't have to energy to explain anything to her nor does he have the energy to even talk at all. He just wanted to get to bed, to hell with his injuries, infection be damned, he didn't care about anything anymore, he just wanted to collapse somewhere and never wake up.

Will the system collapse?

Every other day I look at Bitcoin and I'm wondering if it's existence means the system would one day collapse. Since it's inception, it wasn't known to be an asset. It was just a form of digital payment, but the narrative has changed it to becoming a digital asset.

These days I don't even know what I'm suppose to be doing at the moment. I'm working on my side business but if Bitcoin does continue to go up in the long-term, then I don't really have to anything to produce income for myself. It hasn't gotten there yet because the asset hasn't matured. I'm sure once it reaches in the millions, I'm pretty certain the government is going to try to ban it.

There's a lot of people who don't understand Bitcoin and it's a speculation for now. It's still a speculation. If it does succeed and take over the financial industry then it means the creator was right that the dollar is eroding away in value and society will adapt to this virtual currency or asset. But I can also imagine it to create chaos too, because what does that mean for people who work a regular 9-5 job, and their worth is dependent on a currency that has no value? That would be a huge waste of time. It would be better to just buy Bitcoin in the end as it increases in value over time.

Satoshi Nakamoto is the creator of Bitcoin, and if he's correct, then people have exchanged 10-40 years of their life slaving away for an employer and their net value is 0. Yeah, that's a scary idea, but as long as the government continues to print money. Rent can go up forever, food prices can increase, but what doesn't increase is people's wages. There's some indication that the dollar is decreasing in value over time. It's a useful invention to combat and potentially solve problems like this, but the problem hasn't arrived yet. That's why it's a speculative asset for now.

People have a hard time understanding Bitcoin because I think they haven't seen that type of alternative reality. For most of our lives, we are told to work hard, study hard, and work hard at a job for money, but most people don't really question the social construct imposed on them is making them more poorer. Most people just accept the social construct imposed on them and don't question it. Bitcoin has a complex philosophy. It's not that I fully understand Bitcoin or anything. There some parts I'm also grasping too because it's a complex technology. But I do see the possibility that there could be events where the system may collapse.

The most important part is, is Satoshi right all along? I don't know. I hope he isn't. Like I don't want to just spend time trying to save up money only to discover that it's devaluing over time. Then why am I working so hard to earn money in the first place? Why are we going to school? Why are we waking up everyday, going to our 9-5 jobs? It's a psychological and philosophical question. I think it's something society hasn't asked themselves or adapted to this new change. Since it's very novel, I think a lot of people view Bitcoin as a potential threat to the very core of their values. In actuality, it may save people from poverty.

Time will tell, but in the meantime, in my personal life, nothing much has changed. I'm still working. I still use money to pay for things. I do keep Bitcoin, because I can see that possibility and how it solves those problems as a potential solution, but I'm also treating it as a theory for now.

..."A New York judge ordered Trump and his companies Friday to pay $355 million in fines, plus interest, after ruling that he had manipulated his net worth in financial statements.

The stiff penalty comes just weeks after Trump was ordered to pay $83.3 million to the writer E. Jean Carroll for damaging her reputation after she accused him of sexual assault. A separate jury last year awarded Carroll $5 million from Trump for sexual abuse and defamation.

Add interest payments on top of that and the judgments could deal a staggering blow to the personal fortune that remains core to Trump’s political appeal. He has adamantly denied wrongdoing and pledged to appeal, a process that could take months or even years.

In the meantime, here’s what we know about what Trump owes, whether he’ll have to pay up, and what comes next:

How much money does Trump owe now?

The verdict in the civil fraud trial requires Trump to pay interest on some of the deal profits he has been ordered to give up. New York Attorney General Letitia James, who brought the case, said the interest payments totaled $99 million and would “continue to increase every single day until it is paid.”

Between Friday’s ruling and the two judgments in Carroll’s case, Trump would be on the hook for about $542 million in legal judgments.

Trump owes another $110,000 for refusing to comply with a subpoena in the civil fraud case and $15,000 for repeatedly disparaging the judge’s law clerk in violation of a gag order. As part of Friday’s ruling, the judge also ordered both of Trump’s sons to pay $4 million apiece.

Trump’s court-ordered debts don’t end there. Last month, he was ordered to pay nearly $400,000 in legal fees to The New York Times after suing the newspaper unsuccessfully. He is currently appealing a judgment of $938,000 against him and his attorney for filing what a judge described as a “frivolous” lawsuit against Hillary Clinton.

Can he get any of these judgments reduced?

It’s not uncommon for the size of judgments, particularly high-dollar amounts, to be reduced on appeals.

The appeal in Trump’s civil fraud case will go before an intermediate-level court first. If it returns an unfavorable ruling, Trump could try to get the case taken up by New York’s top appellate court, though legal experts say that is unlikely.

How quickly does Trump have to pay?

Trump has already deposited $5 million owed to Carroll for the first defamation case into a court-controlled account, along with an additional $500,000 in interest required by New York law. Carroll will not have access to the funds until the appeals process plays out.

He may soon be forced to do the same for the $83.3 million judgment in the second Carroll verdict. Alternatively, he could secure a bond and pay only a portion up front — though that option would come with interest and fees and likely require some form of collateral. Trump would have to find a financial institution willing to front him the money.

In the civil fraud case, it will be up to the courts to decide how much Trump must put up as he mounts his appeal. And he may be required to pay the full sum immediately after the appellate court rules, which could come as soon as this summer, according to University of Michigan law professor Will Thomas.

“New York’s judicial system has shown a willingness to move quickly on some of these Trump issues,” Thomas said. “When we hear from the first appellate court, that’s a point where money is almost certainly going to change hands.”
