That Ranchers oneshot, in a perfect world, would’ve been smth of a visual novel / rpg horror (but that’s the whole au tbh). Where SYNOPSIS picture this:

It’s week 5 into the apocalypse — you’re Tango Tek, alone, driving along the beaten road in your friends’ ute. You (as Tango) spot this stranger, also alone, who by mysterious means is walking on the side of it.

He begs you to take him with you (when I mean begging he is grovelling crying you think he threw up at one point) so you do. And now you, and this stranger, together in your friends’ ute, on route to the Nether Lands — because by gods, it takes two if you’re going to retrieve everything your idiot of a team member dropped when he turned.

google how to not be sosososo anxious all the time. its not even like stress that motivates me to get things done it's just like. i make a mistake and misunderstood instructions in class and my teacher is like "you were supposed to figure out precisely where 180 was before taping the draft and punching your marks" when i like an idiot guesstimated it and after a moment of me going "oh..." bc its something i can't fix bc i've already punched in all the holes on the part he's like "i think you'll be okay" and goes back to what he's doing and then for three hours im like he's so annoyed with me i bring things to him too much and ask him too many questions and make the stupidest mistakes every day he hates me. i ask a friend something and they don't respond because they're busy or forget about it or don't see it or any number of other reasons and then a couple weeks later i send them something else and they don't respond for a few hours and its enough time for me to convince myself i said something a while ago that they took offense to without realizing and they're ignoring me and i send another message saying "are you mad at me did i do something can you tell me what i did so we can work it out" and he's like "what?". a friend posts about people treating them badly in a way that's clear they're talking about a specific phenomenon or person and im always like omg are they talking about me did i do something bad and not realize it... and its someone i talk to so infrequently and casually it obviously would not be a concern or someone i've known for so many years that they would obviously come to me if there was any conflict that arose. help

I was just innocently listening to a (non-D20) ttrpg, having a grand old time, when I found myself saying,

“We’ll, that’s absolutely not how bonus actions work”

And it made me want to steal my own lunch money.

…anyway, as you can imagine, I’m preparing a class action law suit as we speak. If you or a loved one have been forced to learn the rules of Dungeons and Dragons against your will, you may be entitled to compensation.

Watched the DnD movie today, and i am trying to figure out why it was so dang wonderful (it was wonderful!!!!)

And I think a lot of it is that it very much wasn't a story about rolling dice and playing a game with friends- dice were not mentioned once, very few jokes about mechanics or gameplay, no fourth wall breaking... but that it WAS a story in the style of the stories we make together while we play!!!

The moments for backstory and character bonding, the shenanigans and problem solving, the cliched tropes played sincerely for the joy of it, the badass moments in combat... These stories are powerful as we create them, and they matched that tone so compellingly!!!

What a refreshingly sincere and lovely movie, I enjoyed it a lot!!!

just had my first (in person) dnd session and it was soooooo awesome!!! shout out to my best boy Yonathan, a cleric turned mage turned BACK to cleric, who got cast out of his faith for breaking a vow of celibacy but then got his groove back when he turned down a "u up?" call from a different god while looting said god's corpse.

my first session was so cool, but i gotta say, watching other people on actual play roll a nat1/roll low is gut-wrecking, but watching it happen IN REAL TIME, ON YOUR PARTY????????? worse. SO much worse. 3 out of 6 people in our party died (the cleric got its head smashed in by a stone guard, one sacrificed himself heroically to grab the mcguffin the party was after, and one died a ridiculous death there was a lake full of snakes, dm said the snakes were venomous, player went 'yeah but not all of them right?' even though we kept saying YES ALL OF THEM and then he stuck his foot in the lake and immediately got bitten and died.). Yonathan, the dwarf and the elf managed to get away, though. lived to fight another day

#the session was perfectttt except one of the boys was really Not That Into It so he was barely paying attention (hence why his cleric died) #one negative thing is that there was the moment the dm asked me to describe how Yohn would use detect magic #and i started talking about how he was a cleric and how he was forsaken by his god and etc etc etc and the ASSHOLE #sitting next to me was like 'hurry up he just wants to know how you use your spell' like???? sir. SIR. this is a ROLE-PLAYING game!!!! #but the dm clocked it though because then he gave me that sweet sweet scene between yonathan and the other god. which basically #got yohn his religion back/switched him from magic user to cleric #and also the guy who sacrificed himself (or rather the thief would rolled a NAT1 in the worst moment imaginable) agreed with me

I have a question that you can perhaps answer. Where does this idea of Jin being a crybaby in the past comes from? Is it because of how it's told in the game he acted after the death of his mother? What his father says about him in Iki Island? Or is there something else I forgot about? I know there were early fics by manic intent with that kind of portrayal but what is this based on in the game?

(I'm not asking to offend you or anything I just always wondered about it and can't figure it out, maybe I'm just inattentive idk)

afaik, i believe most people’s idea of him being a crybaby does come from kazumasa’s comments about jin in the iki expansion, and also jin’s stories of his mother at the animal sanctuaries portray him to be a bit pouty and such

i’m not sure how much others root it in his reaction to chiyoko’s death (which i think was understandable, they were very close and he was only 7-8)

but as for other things that imply it, i don’t believe there’s much outside of what you mentioned! i guess it’s more so a popular impression that people take away from those things? rather than like firm firm canon

HOWEVER, with the manic intent fics i’m not sure what they based their idea of it on because they stopped writing rj before iki even came out. (i hadn’t played got before iki was released, so i’m not familiar with the fandom from back then) but yk i must be real, i feel like manic intent’s fics have a very heavy influence on everyone’s characterizations of jin and ryuzo
