a/n: they were adorable as children and I love this idea!! I haven't read Career Suicide yet, so some of these may be inaccurate, but again most are just headcanons that I don't have much to back up on besides their personalities

1996-2000

• you became friends with Bill and Tom when you were seven years old and bill had the biggest crush on you. he thought you were so cool and was even more happy when he found out you played guitar so he asked you to join Black Question Mark. you obviously said yes and you had so much fun rehearsing and hanging out with them

• one day at school bill asked you what your favorite cookie was and he practically begged his mom to help him bake those cookies for you. when he brought them in the next day he was so happy when you got excited for them.

• as you guys got a little bit older, you and tom would protect bill from bullies even if you got bullied too. but before you guys knew about what they were doing to bill, you would always clean up his cuts and kiss his bruises. after that, you would always walk with him, holding onto his hand tightly and try not to pay any attention to them.

• bill would pick flowers for you on valentines day because him and tom would pick them for his mom, and now that you were around, he'd get you some too

• when tom and bill looked more alike, you'd help them switch places in class and then act all surprised and be like "What do you mean? That's tom, Frau Schiller."

• they were little menaces, so when you were brought into the mix, they teachers all hated you. but they couldn't actually prove you were doing anything, which made it 10x more fun

• you and tom would always laugh about getting better grades in singing classes than bill and bill would just sit there like "🙄".

• you and bill had skipped class together (its like 4th grade, yall are like doing 4x8 idk why yall so lazy 🙄, but anyways), you guys did Stein, Schere, Papier (rock, paper, scissors) and Tom lost so he had to stay in class and pretend to be bill 💀. you and Bill were just walking around the halls when bill got the brilliant idea to pull the fire alarm. you two almost got caught but you were quick enough to run outside and get in line with the rest of your class.

• you and their mom are like best friends so you bake recipes with her all the time. like Puddingbrezel, Apfelstrudel, Apfelkuchen, Käsekuchen, Pfefferneusse, etc.

• you and tom tagged a couple buildings with spray paint

• you, tom and bill have sleepovers all the time and you guys would make a pillow fort and watch tons of movies.

• bills a very cuddly person, so he'd always end up wrapping his arms around you after you guys fell asleep in the fort

• you guys went CD shopping all the time and get tons of cds for your collection

• you would take nail polish from your moms collection and help bill paint his nails

• you moved to Magdeburg just around the time Bill and Tom's dad moved out. Bill wasn't as upset as tom was, but you still comforted the both of them. if your parents were divorced to, you'd also be able to empathize with them

• Bill and Tome step dad would invite you to go fishing with them on a boat on the lake whenever they went. you were basically apart of the family because you hung around so much so he didn't want to leave you out

• you and bill would play with his mom's makeup all the time and give eachother makeovers

• you, tom and bill once got caught trying to sneak a beer can out of the fridge and you guys all had to sit in time out. honestly, that just helped you guys be more sneaky about getting it

• if you have long hair, bill begs his mom to teach him how to braid hair so he can braid yours. he did this in the first place because you laughed at tom for not knowing how to braid hair and you were all like "you know how to braid hair, right bill?" and he was just like "😃😄😃 yeah."

• you three all used to have bonfires in the backyard. you guys would throw in paper and wood and all that shit and then go steal a lighter from the house. then you'd all grab some marshmallows and roast them

• when you guys were eleven years old, you walked in on him jerking off and you had literally no idea what he was doing at first so you just opened the door and stood there like "wtf 😀"

• you stole some cigarettes from your dad and you, tom and bill all smoked them outside of school for the first time. you were all coughing your asses off because you guys have never smoked before

• you three would all go to weddings together and play music for them.

• you and bill would play dress up all the time and you'd scream at anybody who said something to him about wearing a dress

• at nine years old, you and bill had a wedding and after that, he would always call you his wife and he was your husband. like if a teacher didn't partner you two up together he'd be like "but she's my wife!"

• his mom and your mom became friends too, since you guys spent so much time together and they'd be like "if those two don't get married one day, I'm losing faith in all love."

2000-2004

• you were up on stage, playing on the guitar with Tom and Bill on the night when Georg and Gustav came to see you guys. you were a bit hesitant at first, since you were used to only bill and tom, but you guys needed a bassist and drummer, so you agreed.

• after that, you guys all became a friend group pretty quick. even though at first the age difference was weird, you guys got past that and kind of forgot about it

• you five would go to the corner store all the time and would sneak candy in your clothes. even if you had enough money 💀

• movie nights 24/7, and you guys had to watch labyrinth. it was a must and bill would force you guys to watch it

• you and bill were already super close, but the older you got the more close you got and the more your relationship progressed.

• you had to be careful when walking around the house at first because you didn't know if you'd be fine, or you'd turn the corner and one of the four boys would be sitting there jerking off

• the more time passed, the more you got used to it and it got to a point where you'd just walk into a room looking for something and if one of them was jerking off you'd just walk right past them.

• they're literally saying the dirtiest, nastiest jokes all the time and you'll just be sitting there like "🙂 wtf man"

• you went to Star Search with Bill, his mutter and his Oma and was so excited to see him on stage. when he came out you were smiling and cheering and clapping your hands as loud as you can. his singing voice is amazing

• you held him for a long time after he got second place. he was really sad and bawling his eyes out because he promised you and his Oma that he'd win for you guys

• you made sure he knew it was okay, and that second place is still amazing. but he still moped for days once you guys got home.

• you and gustav would make food together too. like cookies and milkshakes. it was tons of fun baking with him

• when you first got your period, the boys were super confused because you were holding your hand in front of your intestines (and yes its actually where your intestines are, your stomach is way higher than you think 😨 but back to this) they didn't have any idea what was going on until Georg was like "she probably got her period."

• the rest of them all looked back at him like "wtf is that?" and georg was like "it's where girls bleed out of their vaginas." after that, tom and bill thought you were dying or something because georg did a terrible job explaining what a period was 💀

• once their mom got home and say they were freaking out and she asked what was wrong and they were like "Georg says Y/n is bleeding out her vagina! She's dying!" and their mom just started laughing her ass off and grabbed you a heating pad.

• tom and bill were mad at their mom for a bit before she explained what was actually happening because they thought she was just gonna let you die. but then she explained it happens to all women and its just shedding the lining of a woman's uterus. and that you were laying on the couch like that because periods cause awful cramps that can hurt as much as heart attacks.

• they were extremely nice to you after that

• bill went to the store and bought you some chocolate and then rubbed your back for you. his mom was just standing in the doorway of the living room as you two sat on the floor watching a TV show with a bunch of pillows and blankets as bill rubbed your shoulders.

• you guys got high on weed all the time and you'd be laughing your asses off while bill would just be sitting around, super fucking paranoid about everything

• you and tom were little assholes in school, especially in science class💀 you two would fuck things up on purpose when doing experiments and your teacher hated you guys so much

• you, bill and tom once started a fire at school and you all got grounded for 2 weeks and suspended from school for 3 days

• you and bill would get matching clothes together

Lucifur.... he ain't doing to well. Bros divorces and his daughter is meh about him no happy home life for him lol. At this point he realizes that hes madly in love with Adam but he hasnt had the opportunity to act on it or do anything about so the guy is just upset. But first ep plays out, he gives her his spot in the meeting with heaven and Charlie goes up. One way or another she bumps into Adam who is side eyeing her like crazy, her dad's twin and what is essentially her heaven twin go figure.

Emily is way too soft so she and Charlie chat and and Chalie finds out who Adam and Mike are and then she goes back down. (Idk if would be her meeting them at the meeting or she fumbles around and just so happens to meet them up to you but in general she just gets to know them a bit, finds out and dips back down)

Charlie notices how close they are and then at some point tells her dad about Adam. He asks her in major detail and she goes off saying that Adam has this family now in heaven or she thinks he does anyways. He looked like he was with Micheal and Emily was their daughter or something and Lucifur is fuming having a that could have been me moment.

amangela: RIVALS TO LOVERS AGAINNNN i have talked about this one a Lot with baflegacy bc like. they are my roman empire. at least these two have met on multiple occasions and actually fought with each other - they keep meeting at gigs/in bars and bickering. angela "clearly abba is the best band ever" giarratana and amanda "WHAT about fleetwood mac you DUMB ASS" lehan-canto. like they meet a bunch and EVERY time they end up bickering. meanwhile angela keeps seeing thirst traps of amanda on tiktok and being like "why are all the lesbians obsessed with her she SUCKS" and chanse and arasha, who have heard this three million times, are like "yeah okay buddy whatever helps you sleep at night." meanwhile amanda is living her bliss <3 and then they realize they're both in battle of the bands and uh oh! things come to a head!

ask game: “and yet we persist” or “all i ever wanted was the world”? or for one that feels like a different tone “topsy-turvy”?

"and yet we persist" is stoic, long-suffering, and straightforward enough it makes me want to subvert it somehow, so therefore i posit: this is the fic of tim, steph, cass, and kon having to undergo a multi-day roadtrip, for some reason. (why can't kon just fly them wherever they need to go? idk but let's assume i came up with a reasonable justification. the point is they need to all be trapped in a car together, for several hours on end, for a few days.)

tim and steph are in their divorce era. kon and cass are their usual cozy "very affectionate friends who understand each other really well" selves. timkon and stephcass are both in their mutual pining/late-stage slow burn phases.

what this means: most of the roadtrip is tolerable! even when tim and steph are unhappy with each other, they know how to get along. most of the time. the exception is when one or the other says something unnecessarily bitchy, the other goes "oh are you fucking serious don't fucking start right now--", and then tim is bitching while driving and steph is furiously kicking the back of the drivers seat just because she knows it'll piss him off if she gets scuff marks on the leather. kon, shotgun, twists around to start talking to cass very pointedly about each song on his wendy/pierce playlist, because he's recently gotten her into wendy the werewolf stalker. tim and steph are bickering. and yet, kon and cass persist.

at one point the arguing starts at a gas station while tim is filling the tank. steph leans out the window and asks something. tim gets snippy, steph gets snippy back, and 15 minutes later when they're still at it, kon and cass have run out of interesting things to look at in the gas station mini mart. and yet... they persist...

they stop at a motel one night. tim meets steph at the vending machines when she's coming to get some ice and he's trying to get a zesti (and mad because apparently this far from gotham, they don't carry them?). they don't fight, they just kind of awkwardly nod to each other like sooo... are we good? yeah i guess. ok well you don't have to sound so put out about it. oh don't start this again. but they both freeze when cass opens the door for her and steph's room, crosses the hall, and knocks on tim and kon's door. kon lets her slip inside. she's dressed for bed already. tim and steph both freeze. did tim just get sexiled? fuck. of course steph will let him hang out in her room but this can't be happening. surely not. they're in dismay. and yet... they persist...

meanwhile kon and cass are happily snuggled up together watching season 3 of wendy. when tim doesn't come back they both kinda go "uhhh.... did he and steph... surely not." and decide not to think about it. it's fine.

it's a miserable roadtrip but it's funny as fuck. do you see my vision

So, my thoughts on the episode:

While I do love the angst, I feel like Suna is being OOC and inconsistent. She’s in her insane era fr. This is a girl who loves her sister Seyran and threw up even just thinking about being with Ferit.

There’s a scene in this episode wherein she coldly tells Kaya she empathizes with him and that’s why she married him—this clearly parallels the Episode 46 scene wherein Suna overhears Kaya telling his mom he pities her. Granted, Kaya said that to deal with his mom’s DID, but Suna doesn’t know that because Kaya isn’t communicating this, lol.

I do think though the angst will still serve but I wish they would make her less OOC. Suna needs to realize her true destiny is Kaya. Also, the Fikriye fortune teller subplot is such a cop out—here’s a charlatan with vague words that can be interpreted in multiple ways, so the writers can manipulate the story however they see fit.

We are definitely getting good angst though, like KaySun we are so back. But we need a catalyst for Suna to realize her true feelings. Some ideas I have include Suna overhearing Kaya tell his mother he truly loves her, Suna finding out that the fortune teller is fake (because idk if Fikriye is in kahoots with İfakat or not), or Suna just getting jealous of Kaya with Pırıl. Maybe Kaya should get shot non-fatally for her to beg for him and realize she loves him? Contrary to popular opinion, I don’t want a divorce for KaySun unless it’s just talks of it (like for Suna to realize she does want Kaya, not for the divorce to actually happen—it should be stopped last minute, ya feel haha).

Ideally, with the reytings and lack of creativity of the writers, we are definitely getting this plot line dragged only to have it disintegrate last minute. In a perfect world, my ideal scenario is angst era for KaySun, Suna’s jealousy or overhearing something to have her realize she loves Kaya, and then them getting back together towards the end of the season and being #endgame—except the Pırıl sht pops out last minute, leaving us on a cliffhanger for the season finale. That way, there’s more to explore come Season 3.

My gripe is truly the lack of KaySun scenes and the inconsistency of Suna’s character. She’s not THAT insane. To echo what my good friend @academyofbrokenhearts said—they were able to give a male like Kaya a good reason for his Episode 46 “pity” scene, which is his mentally ill mother. But this show hates women so much, Suna’s only reasoning for the Fersht plot is a freaking fortune teller. Girls are not that dumb!

these ones! I don't think any of them would make it into like my top 20 all-timers but i enjoyed all of them:

Sagittarius by Natalia Ginzburg: for some reason I cried for about fifteen minutes after finishing this one and it drove me to buy like everything else she's ever written. idk I think this was the year I realised my parents were also fallible humans and so this book specifically hurt a lot

The Days of Abandonment by Elena Ferrante: Ferrante is another author where it's like I'll literally read whatever she puts out and I don't usually go in for divorce dramas but all the way through I was like damn this would make for a solid A24 movie

Pachinko by Min Jin Lee: v interesting generational epic on a part of history I knew very little about and also made me cry a bit :/

Penance by Eliza Clark: lol I posted a passage from this whilst I was reading, I think it's just a lot of fun, a solid satire of the true crime genre, and also the most convincing writing I've seen about growing up on tumblr era social media. I recced it to a friend who didn't grow up on tumblr but did grow up with me whilst I + our friends were and she was like this is bringing back VIVID memories. I liked Boy Parts as well (her debut novel) but it wasn't a fave this year

Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides: what can i say bruh I like generational epics. also as someone else with a big ass greek surname i can really relate to the protag (and Eugenides I suppose) being dialled up by the teacher to read aloud/play a part every time greek stuff was being covered in class

honourable mentions to The Marriage Portrait by Maggie O'Farrell (I liked it well but not as much as Hamnet), To the Friend Who Did Not Save My Life by Hervé Guibert (very moving but came at precisely the wrong time in my life LMAO), the other Natalia Ginzburg books I read, and obvs ASOIAF which i reread every year in the background of my usual pile lol.

Another year is over so it's time for a look back at what was happening on this blog! I haven't really been around, it was just my queue, and maybe that's one reason why I looked at my archive and went "huh" at everything. I don't remember much. The other reason why this year probably went poof in my head is because I was dealing with some mental health stuff lol. I say lol but it wasn't actually very lol but I'm doing better now and 2024...is looking promising for now.

So, let's talk more under the cut, shall we?

January

We're in Bridgeport and Sawyer is living his best life. You know, girlfriends, boyfriends, being turned into a vampire, giving birth to three little vampires, threatening to sell his enemies' organs on the black market...best life indeed.

February

Okay I am now seeing that "talking more" about every month will be impossible since I actually don't have much recollection of 2023 lmao

March

Sawyer and Erin are at the best point of their relationship, but we left them alone for a bit and went back to NSB. Pastel just moved to Strangerville and got a...rather strange roommate.

April

The rather strange roommate becomes Pastel's rather strange wife. I love these two so much. We also say hello to Moss -- and also to Ross, who returns from...god knows where. I mean yeah, there was the ts3 Ross, but technically they're two different people. Parallel universes and stuff.

May

Thea is born and strange wife Jesse gets even stranger. That whole "merging with the mother plant" thing was kinda weird but I really enjoyed it. Idk what I was on but it was fun. And then, before returning to the lepacy, I posted my Cottage Living screenshots! ...which were really just me going "uwu what does this do" on every possible Wicked Whims option.

June

...and I went from posting weird WW Ross stuff to posting wholesome Growing Together Ross stuff. If that gave you a whiplash, I am sorry, but imagine what it must be like for me. I'm locked with this guy in my head 24/7. He's the whiplash king. A blorbo to you, a curse to me. A beloved curse tho. Ok I'm getting weird. Back to the lepacy.

Lepacy time! Loved the soap opera Generations gen. Kinda wish I had sticked to some of the storylines instead of going "eh nvm I just wanna play". I'm not saying I regret not actually letting Saywer go on a killing spree but also...imagine if he went on a killing spree. You don't see that in lepacies often do ya

August

August was...welp 💀 I was at the grippy socks hospital for most of that month, 10/10 would recommend, but my queue ran out while I was there so I just reblogged some old stuff for a few weeks.

September

September is just lepacy month. Cornelia and Archer are happy, they get married, they get more children...yeah. Good wholesome Generations times all around. It's not like they're gonna get divorced later or anything.

October

The twins are kind of chaotic, one of them turns into a ghost, both then bring their cursed imaginary friends to life...and the final child of Archer and Cornelia is born.

November

I loved running into Sawyer at the grocery store all the time. Weird vampire alleged killer grandpa behavior suits him. Dorothea goes away to a boarding school, hates it there and instantly comes back. Relatable. Oh and midlife crisis hits Archer hard.

December

And we're in December! Dorothea enters her horsegirl era and finds herself a girlfriend...and we'll continue that in 2024!

What's in store for the new year besides the lepacy? Well, Not So Berry will be making a return (and HOPEFULLY we'll finally get to the end. we need to). There's a story I want to do in the NSB universe, if you know you know. Before we dive into the next lepacy generation, I'm thinking of another BC with the gen 7 heir...oh and Marika's Black Widow. Shoot and I'm starting an irl job in January. Yeah no we're not doing all this in 2024, don't count on it 💀 But I'll try.

okay full thoughts on the taylor cover band:

they sort of did eras but some of the choices were weird (like speak now had love story, ybwm and forever and always thrown in there, no separate fearless era?? forever and always was an interesting choice i think me and my friend were the only ones going feral for it.)

the lead singer was incredibly talented, and she did a lot of taylor's little mannerisms and dance moves without making it feel like an impersonation, if that makes sense. clearly a fan who cares a lot

the times i've seen taylor live, i'm always so focused on her and being in her presence, and when i'm able to focus more on the instrumentation/arrangement/rest of the performers, it's usually through a laggy livestream. this was a cool experience in that it just kept hitting me that her whole discography is just wall-to-wall really solid songs, even divorced from taylor's magnetism as a singer and performer. in some ways it was like hearing them all for the first time again

there were a lot of kids there, i'd say maybe 8-11 year olds were the biggest demo, and it filled my heart sooooo much. to see these little girls in their costumes and jumping around with their friends, trading friendship bracelets, idk it made me very emo. taylor, her music, and this community have been such an anchor for me over the past 15 years, and it was very touching to me to think that these little girls will get to have that, too

they closed the show with 22, which i initially thought was a really weird choice because rep was the last era they did (this girl did THAT NOTE in don't blame me it was sooooo good). but when i realized they were paying homage to eras 22, complete with a kick line and giving away the hat, it made total sense. so much joy in that room.

okay, I finished reading Feet of Clay by Terry Pratchett, and i have some opinions on it, and about Clay Men in Fallen London. Shocker, I know. Irrigos? Having opinions? I'm only 80% opinions by volume!

This is really long and rambling, and I WOULD apologize for that, but, idk man you chose to read it.

anyway, I'm gonna preface this by saying that I am not Jewish. I've been pretty forthcoming about that on here, I think, given that every post I make somehow becomes about how I was raised Catholic.

so... the Clay Men are golems, yeah? I don't think I really need to argue that that's so, and even if I did, I'm not really sure how I would (or, rather, I don't know how someone would disagree, beyond "but they're not CALLED golems")

I've always thought the Clay Men were such an odd addition to Fallen London, because like... why are there golems here? In folklore, the golem was made to protect the Jewish people (in the most famous story, the golem was made by Rabbi Loew in 16th century Prague to protect the Jewish ghetto from pogroms and blood libel) but like... there's no imperiled Jewish community in Fallen London. I mean, I don't think there's been any mention of any Jewish community whatsoever. So why are there golems? What purpose do they serve?

I know in canon, they were created by the King with a Hundred Hearts. But I'm not really sure... why. The lore wiki says that the Clay Men come into existence when the King dreams (but also, the article on Clay Men on that wiki doesn't cite any sources, and has a big banner saying it doesn't meet their citation requirements and might contain theories and headcanons. So I can't verify where in the game it says that). I know the King's backstory and all, and I know why he's a city, but I just don't really see why that resulted in the creation of a race of golems. Not really sure how his divorce was aided by the presence of an entire race of swole mud dudes, but... well what do I know

Anyway, the reason that I read Feet of Clay is because it's all about golems, and also... it's kind of the only answer I can think of for why there are golems in this game? I mean, golems aren't really a staple of the Victorian era, like Jack the Ripper or Sherlock Holmes, and they're not a staple of the cosmic horror genre (that the game at least makes a lot of gestures towards), like squid people or uncaring cosmic entities. And it doesn't seem like any of the FL founders were Jewish, or had any particular attachment to the golem as a folkloric character, so like... why? This is just a theory, and I might be totally off-base, but the best reason I can think of is that the Discworld books are incredibly famous and iconic and (especially in the UK) ubiquitous, and... they have golems, I guess? I don't know, I'm grasping at straws here because I have NOTHING. I understand all the talking animals and the fish people and sentient cities from space, but the golems? The golems confound me.

Especially after reading Feet of Clay, I just wish Fallen London would actually DO something with the Clay Men. There's been a few stories focused on Clay Men, but... well I've made no secrets about the fact that they've been the ones I enjoyed least. I think The Clay Man's Arm is gross, I think Factory of Favours is boring, I think the Comtessa storyline is... idk uncomfortably racially coded? ("Rich young white woman is kidnapped and killed by someone that is less than human but still undeniably A Man who claims to be in love with her" is uh. literally a plot point in Birth of a Nation? That really famous 1915 movie about how awesome the KKK are?)

The golems in Discworld are such a rich thematic vein-- they function as allegory for Jews, for oppressed workers, for automation, for the power of words in general. What is the narrative purpose of the Clay Men? What do they add by being in the story? What would be different if any given Clay Man that shows up in a story was replaced by a human? In Feet of Clay, you couldn't replace the golems with humans, because the story would cease to function. If you replaced the Clay Men in the Comtessa story line or in Factory of Favours with a human, or a Rubbery, or literally any other being that exists in the Neath, what would really be different, narratively and thematically? In my opinion, not a whole hell of a lot! So why are they here???

Anyway, I'm hoping that Mask of the Rose has more meat on this particular narrative bone. I know FBG has mentioned several times how much research they're putting into representing Jewish characters in MotR, and I know there's going to be a Clay Man lodging in Horatia's, too, and if David and Rachel don't have something to say about the fact that golems are real, I'm gonna riot.

Also, I couldn't think of a good way to work it into this post, but I really like this Jacob Geller video about the golem.

hiiiiiii m! read s2 ep2 and i LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!!!! <3 i actually am so relieved that steve reader friend divorce era is over......idk why but friendship breakups make me sadder than actual romantic breakups, partly because friendships themselves are so selfless and sort of by design the least selfish, or self interested you can be, with the benefit just being "we get to hang out!". i'm fascinated that steve forgave her so quickly as well, maybe because he's in a vulnerable spot right now (???), but i really did enjoy that reader was willing to make amends instead of sort of just digging an emotional hole for herself and exaccerbating the problem. i'm excited to see if she'll be as proactive down the line when things get more serious between them.

the way you handle nancy is interesting. i'm glad you don't shy away from reader being jealous of nancy and the attention of johnathan and steve and being pretty and rich, which omg, can drive full grown adults crazy, so why wouldn't a teen girl feel it, but also see nancy as like a full person? i also really appreciate your/reader's willingness to see both sides of the conflict, at least so far. a lot of people, from what i've seen, seem to view that night as a very traumatic night for steve where he got his heart broken, and that's true! it is! but it's also a night where nancy got blackout drunk from survivor's guilt that everyone around her told her to ignore in favour of just forgetting everything she experienced. that would make anyone upset! she probably does feel like her relationship is bs if it's main priority is not allowing her best friend's parents to find peace and move on! anyways, what i'm saying is that it's nice to have a realistic yet emotionally mature main character, and one who is so because they themselves are emotional and very in tune and self aware of them and others, instead of for just like, the plot vaguely, or because of modern sensibilities, no it's just an established and consistent part of her character, which is hard to do and it's so cool that you do it so well near constantly!

but i really was cheesing a lot like it just felt like a classic early 2000s CW show which is the high i'm constantly chasing. one tree hill season 1 episode i think 13 college party was very much the vibe i was getting. i should have been wearing cheetah print and leather and listening to the strokes as my friends convinced me that local basketball player was really the only guy who ~gets~ me. "i'll be" by edwin mccain plays in the background as we make eyecontact from across the room. you set the vibe, is what i'm trying to say.

billy was weirdo and creep and i'm happy he was acknowledged as such!!! not kidding when he came up to the reader i was also uncomfortable and it just had that very deeply horrible frat guy energy that makes every person subjected to it feel very objectified, and i think it's even more interesting that this is, from what i remember, one of the first time someone's shown outright interest in her, so i can imagine that that makes it even worse. i also sort of like the set up of johnathan defending her and steve holding him back, feels very much a great physical example of their position so far, with both johnathan playing a larger role in her life, as well as maybe signalling that johnathan's role as her protector, friend, confidant, all that is now passing onto steve's "hands", as steve's quite literally holding him. idk if that's too much i just had fun! and steve's final thoughts. my god. what an oblivious young man. the immediate jealousy and awe he feels.....his willingness to forgive....her promise to him as he confesses........both very moving and also amazed he hasn't realised his own feelings yet and excited that it will take him longer to do so. them making the promise together especially was so good, and such a good parallel to the one she and johnathan made in s1, and i'm excited to see if steve and r are able to uphold it better than johnathan was and how it'll serve to highlight the differences in their relationship.

u touched on something SO BIG and i loooove discussing it: steve forgave reader so easily. and YES it was a bit ??? but later itll make sense. overall weve seen that steve just so genuinely trusts readers intentions with him, he never doubts her honesty and hes been pulled towards her since day 1, so of course he immediately was like “oh yeah we can be bffs again <3”. HOWEVER ,,,, this will play a huuuge role later (next chapter i believe). we’ll get more insight and steves vulnerability that night also def helped

and nancy !!! yes !!! i had to rewatch her scene with steve in the library a million times and i just felt horrible for them both. they want to help each other, and as ive said before about jonathan and reader, steve and nancy take care of people in opposite ways and it makes them clash. nancy wants to be proactive, steve wants to be more on the down low and tend to those he has already. hes accepted and moved on, nancy has moved on but hasnt accepted.

and as for the jonathan n steve scene i originally had jonathan holding steve back, but honestly it didnt feel right. jonathan, as much as he sucks sometimes, will ALWAYS be the first to defend y/n. every time he will. steve will too, but jonathan has that spot rn and hed rather die than let her get hurt </3

as for billy ,,,, so incredibly excited to flesh out his dynamic with reader. it wont be romantic in the slightest, but reader will have some insight into billys homelife due to max, and u bet she’ll use it against billy.

Seriously though, now I can't stop thinking about an 1880s-1910s Lost Boys AU.

Specifically, again, where Max owns/operates the resort, and the Boys live in the caves and haunt the grounds.

And Lucy is maybe a widow? (I like it better than divorce for this era anyway...her dead husband can still be an unlikeable dick, as a treat) Anyways, she's a newly single woman, with two boys to care for all by herself. She's got what her husband left to them, but not much else. (Michael tries to help. She wishes he could continue his education, but they can't afford it. So he takes on some manual labor jobs to help support them.)

Maybe Lucy's dealing with the stress of losing her husband and her father in quick succession? Or maybe her father just sends her to the resort to recover from her loss and the stress of trying to support her boys. (Like he's got money that she wouldn't directly accept, or maybe he's influential in town and is able to get her in as a favor because this resort is swanky...and maybe he knows that the whole place is crawling with well-off bachelors and widowers, *wink wink*)

So here Lucy is, recovering from a Victorian-style nervous breakdown, living the high life in a gorgeous seaside resort, and then Max, the owner of all people, this suave mysterious man starts piling on the charm.

Then you've got Michael, who is still just as sullen and bullheaded, on the cusp of manhood. Probably had a girl he was courting back in Phoenix. But he's the "man of the house" now, and he's had to help support his mother and younger brother. He comes to Santa Carla to ensure his family arrives safe and sound, but Max invites him to stay as well. "Take a load off, son. You could use a break after working so hard to care for your mother." (Queue Lost Boys shenanigans)

But also, poor Sam, is devastated that he can't afford to wear the latest fashions, and at having to leave his books back in Phoenix or something. Maybe he meets the Frog brothers while they’re sneaking into the resort grounds, because they’re convinced that all of the nighttime parties are covers for vampire activity. (Make it the year 1897 or later and maybe this version of the boys’ “Vampires Everywhere!” is just Bram Stoker’s Dracula.)

But I don't know how I would want it to end. This story could go either way. Is it a Brady Bunch style happily ever after? I feel like I see so few fics where Max is the good guy, it would be interesting to explore…

Or does it end similar to the movie? Like is Max still the sinister manipulator? Are the Lost Boys still the villains?

What if Lucy doesn’t learn that Max is a vampire until after they are already married since that stuff would proceed so quickly back then. Kill the master vampire then inherit his swanky resort afterward and never have to marry again, lmao. (In this version, the quake doesn’t sink the hotel)

Or maybe this story is set in 1906, leading up to the quake, and instead of ending the story covered in Max ashes in Grandpa’s house, we end the story fallen into the caves covered in Max’s ashes, like, “now what?”

IDK, it sounds fun, but I wouldn’t even know where to begin writing in this era.
