Writer Asks
I was tagged by the dearest of all dearhearts, @cassiopeiasara
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 53, but full disclosure, I haven't yet moved everything I've written to AO3 yet.
2. What’s your total AO3 word count? 885,181 (but honestly, OBaaT Georg is an outlier, and maybe shouldn't have been counted...)
3. What fandoms do you write for? Currently? Ever? Currently, it's SuperCat and, more recently, Guiding Light/Otalia. Stupid unfinished WIP that has haunted me for 15 years...
4. What are your top five fics by kudos? These are all SuperCat, btw. One Bridge at a Time, At the Pleasure of the Hotel de la Paix, Uncharted (part 11), At Sea, and (the shocker) Steel Blue.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Yes, as many as I can. I've been known to respond to some years after they were written. Comments are the lifeblood of my writing. One comment at the right time can inspire so much. Sometimes, even the completion of a lingering unfinished story...
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Easily, my tears ricochet (Mirandy). My wife (Lisof9) and I took a vow decades ago (pre-dating, even) that we would always write happy, hopeful endings where the couple is together.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Everything else? See above. That doesn't mean there isn't angst. My wife taught me everything I know about chasing characters up burning trees and then lobbing grenades and feral raccoons at them. She also taught me about cliffhangers.
8. Do you get hate on fic? Once. A long time ago on an ER fic, of all things. I didn't write a word for two years after that.
9. Do you write smut? Yes. I'm kinda known for that. It is sometimes even requested, meaning the prompt is given to me because it requires smut.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? Hmm... Not really? Let me explain. One of my SuperCat stories mentions Emily Carlton from The Devil Wears Prada, and one of my Guiding Light stories has a brief cameo from a character on Saving Grace. The only true crossover I've ever written was wacky. It was Star Trek: Voyager and CSI: Miami. Decide for yourself: Wackiness. It's short.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not sure I understand the question. You mean plagiarized.? There was a rash of that happening in the early 2000s, I think, but my readers always let me know.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? I'm not sure. Probably.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Oh, absolutely! My wife should be considered my co-writer in everything because I have been known to pick her brain when I'm stuck. I've also co-written in the Guiding Light/Otalia fandom and in the L&O: SVU Casey/Olivia fandom.
14. What’s your all-time favourite ship? Oh, lord love a duck. SuperCat is certainly my once-and-future obsession. I've been writing them for over seven years at this point and, at last count, have 10 WIPs in the works for them.
My OTP Prime, though, is B'Elanna/Seven from Star Trek: Voyager because that's how I met my wife.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but probably won’t? Hide Beside Me (Guiding Light/Otalia) has haunted me for 15 years, but remember when I said comments were the lifeblood of writing? Someone commented on it last week which revived my interest in finishing the story. I have a draft for chapter 32 in my WIPs folder right now because of that. I hope I finally get to check that one off my to-do list.
16. What are your writing strengths? Research, capturing character personalities, dialogue, and romance.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Fight scenes and the fact that I'm so slow as a writer.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? Actually, I have a plan to write an Astrid/Raphaelle story in French when I feel I'm up to snuff in French again. I can't wait. I love that ship.
19. First fandom you wrote for? Ever? Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. Buck/Wilma, on my handwriting practice pad from school. I was 10. Published in a 'zine? A Star Trek: The Next Generation Worf/Deanna story. Published online? Xena, Warrior Princess.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written? Currently, there are two:
Queen of Hearts, (ST:Voy, B/7), because it was a love letter to the woman who is now my amazing wife.
One Bridge at a Time, (Supergirl, SuperCat). I'm proudest of this one because it took me seven years to write, came in at 310+k words, and I finished it. I never gave up on it. It was always in my mind. And now I'm working on a sequel to it. :)
I tag anyone who would like to answer it. Although, I would be interested in reading the answers from @shaych03 and @fewthistle if they'd like to participate.

I was tagged by @hovercraft79 (thank you!)
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 243
2. What’s your total AO3 word count? 742,300
3. What fandoms do you write for? I've written for a whole lot. Right now I'm rotating between 9-1-1, The Nanny and the School for Good and Evil but you never know when one of my old ones might pop up.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos? A Way to Ignite (SQ), How This Grace Thing Works (Kyalin), In the company of only us (Cartinelli), Broken Shoes and Loose Ends (Kyalin), Let Me Hand You My Love (Hackle)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Yes, I try to as much as possible because I'm here for engagement. I share fic because I want to talk to people and I appreciate knowing what works in what I share.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I guess Tell Me You Love Me (come back and haunt me) because it kept a canon death.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Most everything else? I tend toward happy endings.
8. Do you get hate on fic? I have before.
9. Do you write smut? Yep.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? Not really. I sometimes write scenarios I borrow from other stories/situations in other fandoms.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Once
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Yep.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? A few and it was a lovely experience every time.
14. What’s your all-time favourite ship? I don't know that I could pick really. I love them all for different reasons. I've written the most for Hackle.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but probably won’t? Sadly A Soft Place to Land possibly. But you never know, I could rewatch Voyager and change my mind.
16. What are your writing strengths? Fluff. I think I'm decent at humor too. Dialogue is also pretty strong.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Description. It is always such a slog for me even though I live for lush description in fiction.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? Not to be attempted without proper research and a native beta if possible.
19. First fandom you wrote for? Scarecrow and Mrs. King but you won't find it anywhere because I was 14 and have no idea what my ff.net password is.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written? Hmm it changes sometimes but today I'd say Let Loose Your Longing
I'll tag (but no pressure): @ellydash @chainofclovers @romanimp @dinovia-grant @blossom--of--snow @meridelclarke

Writer Asks
I was tagged by my old friend and Casey/Olivia shenanigans buddy, @dinovia-grant
1. How many works do you have on AO3? A big, fat goose egg, sadly. Somewhere, out there, I have an old site I haven't updated in years. And fic on other sites, but I never migrated them all to AO3. One day, maybe... My ancient website, broken graphics links and all, can be found here: http://xenafiction.net/shaylynnrose/playground.htm Other fics and such that I've written can be found on Passion and Perfection: http://www.ralst.com/
2. What’s your total AO3 word count? unless my comments count, zero.
3. What fandoms do you write for? When I do write, Xena/Gabrielle, Casey/Olivia, Sam/Janet, Janeway/Seven, Emily/JJ, BtVS: Willow/Tara, Willow/Kennedy, Buffy/Amy, Buffy/Faith, Faith/Cordelia, Kate/Elizabeth, Kerry/Kim, as well as my own original characters.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos? Never gotten any kudos, but I think I had the most engagement from Resurrection is for the Unbelievers, simply because I posted it in regular parts back in the LiveJournal days. I know i had a lot of good feedback on the various things I had written, but they were personal emails, which I cherish and look back upon with strong fondness. It makes me happy that something about my stories touched others.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? I almost always responded to comments, good or bad, just because it meant something to me that my work had inspired someone to say something about it.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Possibly a Xena fic, one that was quite short, called Solitude. It was set during the Bitter Suite era, which overall, was quite angsty.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? There's an old movie, The Pirate Movie, that I latched onto as a kid, because of the song, "Happy Ending" and so...uh, I'm pretty sure everything I write has at least the glimmer of a happy ending, if not a total rainbows and puppy dogs ending...even if the characters had to slog through heck and squishy toast to get there.
8. Do you get hate on fic? Ages and ages ago, I got one of the most confusing emails I've ever seen. It was so badly written that I'd accuse it of being spewed out by an AI, except this was literally in the 90s, so I don't know if AI was a thing then...it might have been hate, or it might have been someone's drunken ramblings, I'm not terribly sure. I think the worst I've truly gotten was comments about how atrocious my grammar or editing was, and I don't consider that hate, just good criticism.
9. Do you write smut? Yes and No. Most of my published fanfic is fairly tame. Even my currently published original fiction is fairly tame...things I've been working on and dabbling with that are still unfinished and may or may not ever see the light? Definitely not tame.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? Yes. Absolutely. Resurrection is for the Unbelievers is a mega crossover between Angel: The Series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a Dracula movie, and eventually, Criminal Minds. This is probably my craziest in terms of seriously different fandoms.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Many moons ago, back before even LiveJournal was a thing, someone posted one of my Xena fics to their site without asking. I asked them to remove it, and after some discussion, they did. They'd credited me, but I hadn't given them permission to post it.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Actually, yes. A long time ago, I had someone ask to translate a couple of my pieces and I said yes. I...really don't remember which ones, though. I've slept many, many times since then. I hope they're still out there, though.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Several times. I'm currently co-writing with a friend. Nothing to publish as yet, but it's a lovely way to get better at many things.
14. What’s your all-time favourite ship? Of what I've written? I'd have to see Kate/Elizabeth simply because I invented it in terms of looking a two characters from different media and said, "They'd really make a great couple". Outside of that, I'd have to proffer the OG, Xena and Gabrielle...they're the ones who got me writing, who got me interacting with internet fandom as a whole, and made me a lot of friends...many of whom I still know, and one of which has been one of my closet friends since 1996.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but probably won’t? I have too many to name, but I'll through out the name of an unpublished piece called The Broken. It's a marvelous monstrosity that I worked on for over ten years with a friend...and we abandoned it because it had gotten too convoluted and silly and really, just completely lost its way. But I learned so, so much while writing it. I'll forever be grateful for its existence.
16. What are your writing strengths? Dialog, world building, emotive descriptions, romance, and I'd say I'm not too bad with action sequences if I put my mind to it.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? I'm too wordy and I suck at grammar. And I love adverbs and will die on the hill that they are a necessary part of dialog...but I do overuse them, especially when writing a first draft. I don't like doing a ton of research, either. I'd rather make it up unless I really need to know something. Good thing I generally write fantasy LOL.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I don't write well in any other languages...I've had 2 years of high school French, but that was over 30 years ago.
19. First fandom you wrote for? On the page, that people could read? Xena: Warrior Princess, but I was making up stories about Charlie's Angels and other TV shows I loved for years. In the sixth grade, a friend of mine and I had a Wonder Woman (TV series) fanclub where we all spun around and pretended to be amazons out to save the day...so what if it was me and two boys who were telling each other these stories. We were having fun and extending the mythos of a show we loved.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written? Resurrection is for the Unbelievers is probably closest to my heart because of the work I put into it, but I love all my story children, even the ones whose existence has slipped to the back of my mind. They were all words that had to get out and show themselves off to the world.
(small disclaimer, all of the above was written while veeery tired, so if there are typos, I'm sorry.)
I tag whoever wants to have at this thing and have fun telling the world about your work. No specific callouts because frankly, I bet most of y'all have already answered this thing.

Fair warning my WIP folder is mostly stuff that will never see the light of day, and some of it is borderline incoherent, so ask at your own peril. I also had to go through and pick out the ones that were just blank because I am the most chaotic about this.
Rules: Post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them, and then post a little snippet or tell them something about it! and then tag as many people as you have WIPs.
Five times Una and La’an weren’t as subtle as they thought they were
Five times La’an got gross and messy and Una did not (+1 time karma caught up)
Shuttle crash bullshit
Coffee Shop AU (Derogatory)
Domaystic 2024: Driver, Teacher, Mechanic, KonMari, Me/Us Time, & Building Renovations (pick your poison)
Christine/T’Pring
Christine/Neera: Part 1?, Part 2, Untitled (all of these are variations on the same thing and all of them are probably getting scrapped, but they technically still have WIP status right now)
I’m only tagging @dinovia-grant because everyone else I know has been tagged already. We haven’t shared a fandom in like fifteen years but let’s go

Rules: List your “top 10” (or up to 10 if you haven’t written that many) fics ranked by kudos on AO3. Are you surprised by what’s most popular to your readers? Then, under a cut, provide your ranking of your personal top 10 fics (with explanations if you want!), and then tag a few fellow writers!
So, I’ve just got 10 stories posted to AO3 so here they are. Some are for rare-pairings and older tv shows or films, so most don’t have many kudos at all, so if you happen to be keen to read them & like them, drop a kudos & a comment. I’ve put my personal rankings in front of the stories.

Cartinelli + medevac of Peggy after a mission + “This is exactly what this looks like.”
OH MAN this ship is vintage but im willing to try *cracks knuckles*
Peggy is in and out of consciousness by the time they make it back to Triskelion. The medic has been talking to her non stop and honestly, she’s getting really annoyed of his voice by now.
The bleeding has stopped, the pain has subsided, so can she get some goddamn rest.
“Director, you need to stay awake,” there’s even a tremble in his voice.
Peggy musters up some strength and waves her hand for the medic to come closer. He does obediently only to feel the strong tug of Peggy’s hand at his collar. “Tell me that one more time and you won’t be able to tell me anymore.”
The medic audibly gulps and nods before Peggy shoves him aside.
“We are two minutes out, Peg!” Steve yells to her from piloting.
Peggy smiles and shuts her eyes. Just a quick meditation to reorient herself would be helpful.
That is until she hears a rampant frustrated New Yorker, “Are ya kiddin’ me? What on earth happened? I leave you for two days and I come back and you’re getting medevac back to HQ? What’s wrong with ya brain, English?”
Peggy is roused from her meditation and opens her eyes to blinding lights. It takes her a moment before the fogginess becomes clear and she sees the bulbs in the ceiling. She looks around the room, the vague softness under her back relaxes her.
Her eyes dart to her side and she sees Angie sitting up on the bed beside her. “Wha–”
“Care to explain yourself?” Angie crosses her arms without moving.
Peggy laughs to herself, still feeling lightheaded, and says up to the ceiling. “This is exactly what it looks like.”
“Don’t be so glib now!”
Peggy opens her eyes and hangs her head toward Angie, glancing down at her wrapped ankle propped up on a pillow. “You’re one to talk. You’re just as bad as I am.”
Angie huffs loudly before throwing a pillow at Peggy.

Supercat, rain turning into sunshine, first hints of Spring - since you asked for prompts. ;)
As the rain drizzles down for the third straight day in arow, Cat notices the drag in Kara’s step. Her once peppy assistant hastransitioned into a morose editor-in-chief, and she is quite positive she hatesevery ounce of Kara’s melancholy. Out loud, she’d never express her love forKara’s optimism and smile, but inwardly, she feels like a flower wilting from alack of Sunny Danvers’s warmth.
It’s this thought that sparks her realization. She’s not theonly one wilting. She ought to have figured this out sooner before the damagehad been done—but she can only move forward from here. There are no setbacks, only detours to a better product, and she’s heading toward a brilliantdestination. A few clicks on her computer, an extra twenty dollars for one-daydelivery, and a phone call down to the mail room result in a satisfied smile.
The next morning, she receives confirmation from the mail roomthat her special delivery has arrived and deposited at its final destination.Feeling awfully smug, she heads to her office and sets about her work. She’sutterly sure that she’ll receive a visit from Kara by the end of the day. She’snot wrong, either; around two in the afternoon, Kara bypasses Eve and entersthe office with a shy smile.
“Ms. Grant?”
“We’re alone, Kara.”
“Cat, then.”
“Yes, dear?”
“It was you, wasn’t it?” Kara’s smile softens into somethingmuch more natural and appreciative. Cat can’t resist smiling back, although shetamps down on her reaction quickly. The glass office means anyone can lookinside, and she has to at least pretend to be the solid, serious boss sheportrays most always.
“I have no idea what you’re implying.”
“The sun lamp.” Kara strides closer, her grin widening.
Cat knows Kara can hear the uptick in her heart rate anddoesn’t bother to try and calm herself down. “The what?”
“Stop playing dumb, Cat.” Kara’s voice dips down, and shesounds downright sultry. Very quietly, she adds, “You know I love how smart youare.”
“You caught me.” Cat lifts her hands in defeat.
“Thank you so much, Cat. I didn’t even realize I missed thesun that badly.”
“I know the lamp is a poor substitute—“
“No. You don’t get to downplay your gesture. Cat, I love it,and I love you.”
Kara crosses the space and invades her personal space for ahug, which she allows despite the setting. She even lets herself place a kisson Kara’s cheek. Spring is on the horizon, thankfully, but until then, she’llhave her Sunshine.
“Yes, well.” Cat tilts her head up and settles her posture.

dinovia-grant replied to your post “I BROKE MY D&D GAME AND IT ENDED AN HOUR EARLY BECAUSE I DID SOMETHING...”
What did you do???
So, we found this “behind the scenes” area and we figured out that we’re basically in the D&D equivalent of a reality show. We get through this building and find a wall and the DM said “there’s a wall there and you can tell that this is a dead end and you’re not supposed to go further. So my ranger ass said ‘fuck that’ and climbed a tree to look over the wall. I see some stuff, get attacked, jumped to the wall, overshot the wall, and got saved by this mysterious guy who keeps showing up to help. I am now currently danging off a 20 foot wall surrounded by some high level bad guys and I’m probably going to die next game.
The DM did not plan at all for anyone to get over that wall. I broke the fucking game.

Queen of Hearts by @dinovia-grant M 63.5k
Seven of Nine asks B'Elanna Torres for personal assistance. Never knowing the perfect Borg to need assistance of any kind, B'Elanna is intrigued and agrees. What she discovers changes everything she thought she knew--about Seven, about herself, and about life.
ive attempted to draw so many different covers for this fic since i first read it and finally was able to create one i truly loved 😖 this is most certainly my favorite b7 fic ever

B/7. Their ninth kiss wasn't quite what Seven was expecting.
Until then, every kiss happened behind closed doors, after work shifts or stolen moments in B'Elanna’s quarters. It wasn’t until this moment that Seven realized it made her feel like what they had was something to be hidden away. B'Elanna ducked her head a little as she seemed to finally realize she’d kissed Seven in the Mess Hall during the lunch rush hour in front of half the crew.
“Guess the cat’s out of the bag.”
Seven tilted her head. “The cat?”
B'Elanna rolled her eyes as she grabbed Seven’s hand and led her out into the hallway. “Sorry, I didn’t even ask if you wanted everyone to know yet. It’s just that problem has been bugging me all morning and you solved it in like two seconds and I-”
Seven interrupted her with the soft press of her lips against B'Elanna’s. Their ninth kiss may not have been what Seven was expecting but their tenth left B'Elanna in such a state of confusion that the amusement Seven gained from it carried her through the rest of the day.
Leave the first sentence of a fic in my ask and I’ll write the next five

Creator Spotlights?
dinovia-grant replied to your post “4, 13, and 14 for Supergirl please?”
Poppy! What a beautiful and completely humbling compliment! I literally don't know what to say...you've rendered me speechless. Thank you for such kind words. Truly.
<3 <3 <3 <3 You’re great and I love you.
Also, those three that I pointed out aren’t the only ones who’ve influenced my writing, obviously. But I’d be name dropping all day if I listed them out.
I’ve been thinking about writing up little blurbs on all the amazing creators I’ve met here. I think I will. Perhaps it’ll be weekly. I dunno, we’ll see.
(Also, @rtarara , bless your soul, Xkit is incredible.)
