The DetCo Episode One OVA...
I don't know where to start from to talk about it. Honestly, I really really liked it!
Like, even though I haven't read the first manga chapter, I'm pretty sure I figured out which scenes were additional material for kicks and giggles to give context to an audience that might be seeing the series for the first time, but also a nod or even fanservise for the long-time fans. Although, some of these cameos were a bit on the nose for me since I knew who the characters were and what role they play in the overall franchise.
I admit, I kinda teared up from hearing the very first opening in the beginning (and having scenes from that same opening during the ending was such a ridiculous nostalgia trip) and I have been going through the series only for a whole year now.
I mean, it was another OVA with almost a movie budget and animation quality like The Two Worst Days in History one. Ran's karate tournament fight was seriously INTENSE! The animators had a lot of fun with it, by the looks of it lol.
But man, I didn't wanna get depressed again over Ran's and Shinichi's relationship. This OVA hammered in the definition of tragic irony, considering I, the audience, knew what was coming after this date. It hurt seeing them pining for each other and being all cute together, only for the plot to happen 😭 I have to say though, it was a bit funny how Shinichi was the one who had the delusional fantasies this time around. They are such dorks *screams into a pillow*
Another thing I found interesting was how Shinichi's voice changed into Conan's voice in his thoughts after the police had taken him to the health center but before he truly saw his reflection in the mirror. Like yeah, the actors probably had to switch anyways, and the fact the original English dub had kept Shinichi's VA narrating Conan's thoughts is the one thing I find cool about that localized dub. But it's fascinating to consider that, in-universe, Shinichi had been hearing his childlike voice as Conan for several hours at least. Maybe that made his inner voice change as he got used to the idea he had shrunk, like some sort of subconscious acceptance of the situation. (another case of me focusing on the most random things it seems) 🤔
At this point, I still don't know how to feel about the BO scenes. Like you have them being all threatening, obviously dangerous and bloodthirsty and then there is that part with Korn and Chianti about the ferry's wheel lmao. Shiho was beautiful as always though, no contest 😊

This year’s movie is 7/10.
Should’ve named it Detective Conan: Tracking device tag (I’m corny)
Spoilers ahead in the cut ⬇️ And I mean a crazy amount of spoilers. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK
Set in Hakodate, Hokkaido prefecture with the theme of the entire movie about swords and the lost treasure no one can find after they hid it.
Half Japanese rich guy (with a crazy band of mercenaries) goes around and tries to steal them for himself after KID steals the two he had in his possession.
There’s just so much lore and deductions in this movie that action scenes are halved compared to recent movies.
And the amount of tracking devices the characters used. Conan, the half Japanese guy, KID, the actual murderer, even Hattori!! I can understand most but Hattori??
Let’s not forget the love story between Heiji and Kazuha. At least it progressed, but figures the ending would end up like a joke as usual and Heiji’s screaming internally.
Momiji was in the movie but she was playing “Where in Hokkaido is Hattori Heiji?” And went all over Hokkaido looking for him (Her role was basically Hokkaido PR for the viewers. She helped with the puzzle solving but the rest of the time, she’s in her helicopter finding Hattori)
Aoko makes an appearance in the movie because her father gets shot protecting a suspect. Ran and Aoko don’t meet but KID’s pretty much keeping watch over them, hoping Nakamori will wake up. KID is blaming himself for not being able to stop the shooting in time. And that scene is burned into my memory because that is one powerful moment to realize KID never wants any harm to come to Nakamori, even if KID himself is getting shot at.
Kudo Yusaku and Yukiko also show up but if you weren’t in the loop about the frenzy that happened on Twitter, to put it short, Yusaku and Kuroba Toichi are twins. Yusaku is the older, Toichi is the younger. Which makes Kaito and Shinichi first cousins.
They’ve touched on this 18 years ago in files 570-573. Toichi told young Shinichi that he’s his younger brother (in reference to Yusaku). But it isn’t exactly direct and a very odd statement to make at the beginning of the case. Yusaku was also the one to name him KID because of Toichi’s handwriting of 1412 looks like KID.
But besides that case, they don’t touch it until the movie (which is also not canon btw, including all movie OVAs and episode tie ins). If Gosho adds it to his manga, then we can consider the fact canon (so 570-573 brother fact is canon for 18 years but people are deciding to scream about it now)
This whole movie revolves around the age old question, “Are Kaito and Shinichi related?”
But the one thing everyone should be screaming about is Kuroba Toichi is alive in the movie. After being confirmed dead and come up at the very end of the movie to text Yusaku, this was a shocker. And wearing an all black version of KID’s outfit.
As for the 2025 trailer, we gonna get Kogoro in a forest. In the middle of a blizzard. Don’t ask 😂 I was just as lost

I tend to watch detective Conan in bursts. I'll go through periods where it's all I'll do all day and then I won't touch the show for months.
I want you to know that staying marginally ahead of you is my current motivation to keep watching the show. XD
Tumblr media
Omg! I’m taking that as a great compliment heheheh
You’re in luck I am SO haphazard about how I watch this show as well. I skip between different shows like it’s nobody’s business and now I’ve even started rewatching random detco episodes instead of moving forward with new ones??? Backtracking for movies and OVAs??? Also popping over to Magic Kaito sometimes??? Yeah I’m still working on that too
Either way, I am looking forward to competing against you to see who can catch up first 😈

Meet the Seiyuu: Lilia Vanrouge
Tumblr media
Lilia’s VA  Midorikawa has voiced many characters in iconic series such as SLAM DUNK’s Rukawa Kaede and Gundam Wing’s Heero Yuy (the performance that inspired Shimazaki Nobunaga—the VA of Lilia’s adopted son, Silver—to go into voice acting as well).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In interviews Midorikawa has explained that he first formed an interest in voice acting in elementary school after watching the anime “Mobile Suit Gundam” and as a child he decided to, one day, join the same agency as the VA of the main character after reading about the company in a voice acting magazine.
That is now his current agency, Aoni Production.
As the eldest son in his family he was originally intended to take over the family pharmacy, but he defied his parents in order to pursue his dream of voice acting.
Midorikawa made his voice acting debut in 1988 and has since had roles in over 300 anime series and OVA and 400 video games.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Where you know Midorikawa from will vary by generation, so here is a quick rundown of a fraction of the projects in which he has appeared: Flame of Recca, Weiß kreuz, Cowboy Bebop, GTO, Doraemon, Detective Conan, SHAMAN KING, s.CRY.ed, SAMURAI DEEPER KYO, Tokyo Mew Mew, Astro Boy, Saint Beast, Xenosaga THE ANIMATION, Naruto, Yu-Gi-Oh! (Season 0), Air Gear, CODE GEASS Lelouch of the Rebellion, Togainu no Chi...
Tumblr media
...BLEACH, Angel Beats!, Fate/Zero, Saint Seiya, DIABOLIK LOVERS, Dragonball Z, Fushigi Yugi, Granblue Fantasy, Fire Emblem, Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto, Persona 3, Danganronpa, ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept., My Hero Academia, ONE PUNCH MAN, SK∞ the Infinity, AIR, Slayers and Tales of Destiny 2.
Tumblr media
Midorikawa enjoys collecting merchandise that features characters he has voiced.
He appears as a guest in episode 5 of Twisted Radio Station, brings out a bag full of Twst-related merchandise (including a magical pen that he says he won in a raffle) and shows off his Diasomnia socks during the recording (much to Sebek's VA Ishiya Haruki's delight).

Hi~ if you're interested, here's a scenario for you:
While talking with an acquaintance, the conversation drifts into the topic of anime since they learn you've watched quite a few shows already. They ask you for recommendations and, when pressed for specifics, they say something along the lines of "I don't really have a specific preference." (This is, of course, untrue—everyone has their yays and nays, and maybe this person just doesn't know theirs. Since they're just an acquaintance, you probably wouldn't know either.)
So as you look into their gleaming curious eyes:
What will you consider before giving a recommendation(s)?
What show(s) would you recommend?
(Note: this is entirely for funsies so please feel free to opt out or to take your time! ☺)
Damn this is like my worst nightmare come true 😂 It's so hard to give recommandation because it depends on one's personal taste, but also a person's state of mind (if you don't want to watch a drama because you're not in the mood for it, you won't want to watch a show even if it's the greatest drama ever produced), openess to new experiences, and tolerance to bullshit such as 2nd hand embarrassment/fanservice/anime grunts/etc.
I'm basing this a lot on the weeb/ass/shit scale, which grades anime by the amount of anime/japanese culture knowledge needed to enjoy it, the amount of fanservice, and its overall quality. But within each tier, you could probably create subtiers (genre subtier, trope subtier, music subtier, etc,).
To note: a lot of the recs are series I watched recently or remember at the top of my mind, so there's this bias to consider.
Depending on how well I know my acquaintance and their tastes, I would go like this:
entry level. something which is easily accessed and understood by most people with minimal (to none) anime/Japan culture knowledge: most if not all Studio Ghibli movies, Cowboy Bebop, Fullmetal Alchemist, maybe Inuyasha (because of like cultural osmosis and its impact on the early 2000s anime scene), Raven of the Inner Palace, Akagami no Shirayukihime, slice of life or introspective shows (such as Sousou no Frieren's first cour, Spy x Family)
slightly above entry level. something which needs a bit of trope/cultural knowledge (like the importance of high school student councils or usual HS/romance/love triangle tropes), but could be appreciated even without because of solid writing/animation and minimal (to none) fanservice/2nd hand embarrassment: Mob Psycho 100, Akatsuki no Yona, Noragami, Skip to Loafer, Kimi ni Todoke, Sailor Moon, Neon Genesis Evangelion to an extent (with warning about the way the plot goes wild and the fanservice and innuendo between teens and adults), Kusuriya no Hitorigoto, Detective Conan
something which requires a good grasp/recognition of tropes as well as willing to engage and think because of the way the anime is tackling and deconstructing tropes: Princess Tutu, RGU (with a lot of content warnings)
classic shonen vibes (aka fanservice galore, tournament arc/powering up tropes, etc): Kimetsu no Yaiba, early Naruto or Bleach
mindfuck but good: Mononoke, NGE (to an extent)
good/entertaining but the fanservice is going to be a MAJOR turn off: Soul Eater, Ranma 1/2, Lupin III movies/OVAs
You might have noticed but most of the series I've listed are relatively short, about 12-24 episodes (except for Inuyasha, SM, FMA, DetCo, and Ranma which are >100 episodes), since I think recommending a long-running series might scare some people away. That (and/or the pretty important amount of fanservice), is also why I didn't include big 'staples' like Naruto, Bleach, YYH, HXH, etc. regardless of my personal enjoyment or taste.
Most of what I like are fantasy/romances (like SAFT, My Happy Marriage, KamiHaji) or niche shows like Cybersix. I wouldn't recommend these to an acquaintance because of how close these series can be to me and how I don't want to put them up for judgement. I can be a bit defensive of my taste ^^
Thank you for the ask! It wasn't an easy exercise, but one I've been unconsciously doing on my own for a while, so it's nice to finally have it in writing if the need ever occurs!

Detective Conan Rewatch Episodes 487-490 + OVA 8
Metropolitan police detective love story 8! Okay case is whatever, the victim kinda deserves it tho but the main point of the love stories is naturally Sato and Tagaki and I love them their romance is the funniest while remaining really sweet and can be really heartfelt too. In this case Sato's obliviousness is at max level but that's part of what makes it funny, girls gotta have a weak point somewhere XD and poor Tagaki is just confused. And Yumi meddler she is proves she can't be trusted to have your best interests at heart if your suffering is more entertaining for her XD
The devil at the TV station is... an odd choice for a special? But like the case is pretty good, the howdunnit instead of the whodunnit makes for a nice change when we get it every so often and the trick is a fun one to understand
Courtroom confrontation 3 is... well it's not bad and I like what they were going for definitely with the character arcs and stuff and like I wanna like Eri's court cases cause I like Eri and seeing her in EPs but the courtroom feels a bit bland compared to a deduction show :( Also that man ascended in the funniest way before falling which made it kinda hard to take seriously 😅
Deduction battle on the ski slope!!! It's everything I wanted out of that adaptation!!!! I love the Heiji cases and this one's top tier from the gorgeous animation (that snow!!!) And the case itself being fun, younger teens Heiji and Shiinichi at that interesting point in their lives were they're still learning to be detectives and not fully acknowledged as such by many others so striving to prove themselves (in a way that also (in)conveniently means they can't meet XD) it's really good up there with some of my favourite overall episodes of the whole series.
OVA 8 - casebook of high school detective Suzuki Sonoko. Honestly, I have no idea what to expect going into each OVA and I was honestly not expecting this one to be so funny! I was laughing so hard when the detective boys rescued E.T. it's a really funny, very enjoyable watch

I've been noticing your posts of Detective Conon (is that how it's spelled?) anyways I'd been noticing them and tbh I'd forgotten who it was and I'd been seeing the little boy wondering why he looked so familiar before I remembered where I'd seen him.
He's from the Lupin III X Detective Conon special. That's when it clicked that you were posting Detective Conon. Bro I didn't realize it was him till I remembered this- 😭
[Warning: Rambling's of a fangirl Ahead]
Hai there! Hope you're having a great day!!
Yeah, The Conan (as in Arthur 'Conan' Doyle) X Lupin special was a thing, lol. The thing is that I'm just like you except I'm on the other side of the spectrum, I've only watched Detective Conan, but I haven't watched Lupin at all. I've watched the special as well, but it seems that it was more Lupin focused (I heard it was made for anniversary or something??), so I was kind of confused for some of the parts. There's a crossover movie as well, but after my reaction to the special, I figured that I'd watch both after I have consumed Lupin media. I still haven't watched it but that's because I'm too busy to watch anything at the moment now, but once I'm able to have more free time, I'd love to start watching Lupin since it seems like a lot of fun!!
I'm pretty sure the crossovers were made because both shows share the same animation studio. Detco's (short for detective Conan) mangaka, Gosho Aoyama is a huge fan of the series, even stating Fujiko is his ideal woman. There's even a character who's based off of Fujiko in detco as well!
As for Detective Conan, considering all the fandom I've seen you be a part of (You have great taste BTW), I feel like it would be a shame if you didn't check out the series because I feel it fits perfectly into your tastes. I myself started the series when I heard there were Urusei Yatsura references in the series:
Tumblr media
Couldn't find a clear anime counterpart of this so have the manga version instead. This is only just one of the references though.
And while looking up the reference, I came across a small plot summary and it intrigued me. Then I started the anime and I've been obsessed since. Like Ace Attorney, Detco is a mystery series with tons of lovable characters. It also has an overarching plot which keeps you intrigued at the same time. A series filled with Love, Thrill, Shock and Suspense to the brim. I would highly recommend it!!
You can experience the series by either manga or anime. I'd say for you anime might suit better since the manga is still ongoing, over 100 volumes, is officially licensed but it has localization (the names, 96% of the fandom uses the Japanese names), it is readable on the VIZ app for a small subscription, but the localization problem still exists. Of course, you can read fanscans without localization as well. Mangadex is good site for that.
As for the anime, it has over a 1000 episodes (+ movies and OVA and other stuff) but that's because it has tons of fillers. 65% of the series is canon to the manga. You can easily look up a filler list and watch which are canon according to that. There are good fillers, but you can watch those in your own time. There are movies as well, which even though not canon, I'd definitely still recommend.
I'd say if you're watching the TV series in the quickest time, it would take a few months. I think I took 5-6 months, but I also took a lot of breaks in between so it isn't all that relevant.
Anyways, even though watching Detco is time consuming it is still something I do not and will never regret because of story and characters this amazing (and memeable) and I'm pretty sure everyone else who have watched it feels the same.
Detco does have a sister series called Magic Kaito which is much shorter in case you've decided not to watch Detective Conan. It's a phantom thief focused series with 5 volumes and 25 something episodes. However, if you do watch Detco, you will come across Magic Kaito whether you like it or not..
In the end, the choice is up to you. Sorry for all the rambling, when I start talking about any my favorite things I just can't seem to calm down..
Tumblr media
If you have any queries, feel free to ask! I'm open to any discussion!!

Hello Friend! Please don't apologize for taking time to answer my asks, As I really don't mind + Life is a busy thing.
I appreciate you warning me about spoilers! though I'm actually far ahead of that episode. As I'm writing this ask i'm currently watching episode 951, and I've seen all the movies except scarlet bullet & Bride of Halloween. I've not watched any of the OVAs or magic Kaito stuff yet though.
I have to say your answer to my Favorite kid heist question was a surprise... because those three are my top three too, Though maybe in a different order. My favorite kid episode in general would probably be the gathering of detectives (Ep 219) but it's not really a heist so I'm not gonna count it, so Favorite Heist would have to be the Miraculous midair walk. There is just something about it that's very special to me. It's one of his cooler Tricks imo, It's the first time we see Jirokichi and Lupin, Conan almost blows kid up, And Jirokichi being mad at Conan for taking his spotlight in the newspaper will never be not hilarious to me.
Anyways, The Question I have for you this time is, How much of dcmk have you watched? In my head i've been assuming that you're caught up since you were ahead of me, But im curious to know how far along you actually are with the episodes, movies, etc.

Hi again my lovely nonnie! Thank you for the reassurance. I'm actually VERY far behind you as of now, I've seen mostly everything up to the 700-mark of the anime and I've also seen a lot of spoilers and a couple of episodes up in the 800-mark?
I've seen a handful of the movies; the 1st, 3rd and 4th, 7th, 14th, 15th, 16th, and lastly the 18th. I think my favorite movies the 3rd; The Last Wizard Of The Century. I saw this movie as a little kid and the stunning visuals and saturated 90's palettes are something that I hold dear to me, it's such a lovely movie! What's your favorite movie(s)? I'd genuinely love to know!
I'm glad we share so many preferences! I love Kaitou KID's Miraculous Midar Walk and I'm so pleased to now know that you do to.
Thank you for the asks, I always appreciate them and I enjoy exchanging answers with you! ❤

Another pleasant surprise! It's good to see that even with a movie that was the follow up to The Raven Chaser, this one turned out to be an enjoyable watch!
Detective Conan Movie 14: The Lost Ship in the Sky is one I wasn't really expecting much out of. I didn't go into it thinking it'd be bad, I just didn't think it'd be as great as it was.
Perhaps I'm a little twisted in saying this, but I love when the stakes are raised, especially in the movies. This is kind of like what I wanted The Private Eyes' Requiem to be in a way. It didn't have all of the "fluff" and parts that made that movie sort of uneventful.
I feel like the writing team did a very good job at keeping the story going and keeping it entertaining through out which I've noticed seems like something that can be a tad difficult with the other movies.
But really, a movie about a terrorist group that is threatening to unleash a deadly virus is a very interesting turn to take for these sort of movies.
I will admit, I do think the terrorist group was written a tad flat since they feel more like the background antagonists while other events are happening, but it's really a small nitpick as far as I'm concerned.
Kaito Kid was very delightful in this movie. I admit, it's heavily making me want to watch the Magic Kaito series (even though I'd like to hold off until I get caught up on Detective Conan admittedly).
And me, forever being a Ran fangirl loved her involvement. Yeah, it wasn't anything as cool as previous movies, but you know, her being the first to figure out who Kaito Kid was, well, I just really enjoyed that angle.
And I loved even more that people were under the assumption that Shinichi is Kid. That was perhaps my favorite and a sort of gag I would've actually loved to have happened in the series. I really didn't want that to be cleared up anytime right away, but the movies are supposed to be non canon, so oh well. It was a funny scenario and I'm just glad the idea was played with in this movie since it's been stated before that Kid and Shinichi look alike.
Also, while a small part, I did enjoy Heiji and Kazuha's involvement in the movie. Satoshi, the little boy that's with Kazuha, is a welcome addition in my opinion. I like him. Too bad this seems to be his only appearance apart from an OVA that was released to go over the events after the movie.
Anyway, on to the rankings!
1.) The Raven Chaser (13th Movie)
2.) The Fourteenth Target (2nd Movie)
3.) The Lost Ship in the Sky (14th Movie)
4.) The Time Bombed Skyscraper (1st Movie)
5.) Magician of the Silver Sky (8th Movie)
6.) Captured in Her Eyes (4th Movie)
7.) Crossroad in the Ancient Capital (7th Movie)
8.) The Phantom of Baker Street (6th Movie)
9.) Countdown to Heaven (5th Movie)
10.) Strategy Above the Depths (9th Movie)
11.) The Private Eyes' Requiem (10th Movie)
12.) Full Score of Fear (12th Movie)
13.) The Wizard of the Last Century (3rd Movie)
14.) Jolly Roger in the Deep Azure (11th Movie)
I really feel like this movie deserves a high spot for its pacing alone. It felt like I was watching a movie the whole time instead of some series' special episodes.
Liked the plot and I liked the resolution. Overall, I'm happy to sing this movie's praises. It did very well and was an enjoyable watch.

I just remembered, I had one more thing to say about the DetCo Episode One OVA.
Do you think the Tropical Land guards ever filed a missing person's report for the weird elementary kid they found that day?
Like it's established that Conan has no official documents proving his existence anywhere. But it's a bit bizarre to me that no one bothered to search for him after he disappeared from Tropical Land. Shouldn't the fact an unidentified child appeared at the place where they supposedly killed Kudou Shinichi had tipped off the BO somehow? 🤔

Hello, I've been reading your posts about Kaishin moments in detective Conan movies/OVA and I wanted to ask something. I'm a Detective Conan reader only, never managed to be attracted to the anime (had a hard time with Conan voice). But I love all interactions between Kid and Conan, and now that I know there is so much content with them that is not in the manga, I was wondering if you could give me a list of those movies please ? If it isn't too much trouble ?
Hello! No, it is absolutely not too much trouble, because I am a nerd who loves lists and timelines so I actually do have a proper chronological list of all Kaitou KID content!
For all KaiShin interactions, we'll need the Detective Conan anime, the Magic Kaito anime from 2014, the Magic Kaito 1412 specials from 2010, the DC movies and OVAs which are not considered canon to DC continuity but they're amazing so I fit them in between where their release date put them in relation to the DC anime.
The specials and MK anime largely cover the same stories, but with changes - those vary from minor things like the hair color of their teacher to actually merging MK chapters together in different episodes. Personally, I prefer the specials to the anime in their animation quality so I orient my chronology primarily on the specials and secondarily on the manga chapters to sort where the additional MK episodes would take place.
You say KaiShin interactions, but seeing as neither the specials nor the anime are very long (there are 12 specials and 24 anime episodes), I'll list you the entire chronology of Kaito adaptations, setting the episodes that are not strictly relevant for KaiShin into italics and the ones featuring both Kaito and Shinichi bold. Putting them together when they cover the same story/case.
Special 1 | MK 1
Special 2 | MK 7
Special 4 | MK 5 & 8
Special 5 | MK 2
Special 6 | MK 13
MK 3
MK 12
Special 7 | MK 4
Special 8 | MK 22
Special 9
MK 17
DC 219, part 1 | MK 6
DC 76
DC 132, 133, 134
Movie 3
OVA 1
DC 219, part 2
Special 10 | MK 18 & 19
OVA 4 | Special 11 | MK 14
Special 12 | MK 20
DC 356 | MK 16
Movie 8
DC 294, 295, 296
OVA 6
Movie 10
DC 469 & 470
DC 472 & 473
DC 479
DC 515 | MK 21
DC 537
DC 538
OVA 10
Movie 14
MK 9, 10, 11 | DC 627 & 628
DC 701, 702, 703, 704
DC 724 & 725
DC 746 & 747
MK 23 & 24
Movie 19
DC 887 & 888
Movie 23
DC 983 & 984
In regard to positions 12 and 17, I'd like to note that I prefer a chronological order. 219 is a special one hour long episode that, for some inexplicable reason, glues two entirely unrelated Kaitou KID cases together and the case in the first half of this takes places moments before the events of episode 76 and make much more sense to be watched there.
Position 19 is a peculiar one, because the Crystal Mother case was adapted TRICE. But only one version, the OVA, actually features Conan.
And position 34 is slightly different in that the Ryoma treasure case from DC gets a prequel set-up in MK - episodes 9 and the first half of 10 feature how that came to be from Kaito's POV, while the second half of episode 10 and episode 11 cover the case itself. Just, to explain why the 9 is in italics.
But on the overall, if you like KID, I would really just recommend to watch the other specials and MK episodes too, because they're a lot of fun and it's not a huge load to watch.
Enjoy your KaiShin watch! ;) <3

Is it just me or Haibara and Conan's height are confusing that I don't which one is taller between them?
Checked in with people on the discord, and consensus seems to be:
Ai is taller than Conan (mostly noticeable in earlier episodes)
Shinichi is taller than Shiho (great places to see their height difference include "The Stranger from Ten Years Later" OVA [original video animation], part of the Secret Files and the second live action straight-to-TV movie "Detective Conan: Shinichi Kudo Returns! Showdown with the Black Organization")
Fun is it not?

About the Boueibu iceberg
@delphoxqueen asked me to explain about my list for the iceberg so here it is. I might update this from time to time with links and stuff if I stumble across the original posts. This is all from what I know so feel free to add new info. Also, spoiler warning for RobiHachi and the Boueibu manga and novels. (This is like a masterpost it’s very long)
1. There’s a theory in tumblr about which decade the series is set in, using data like the friday the 13th calendar in s2 ep11. In HK we got a second number for when the next monthly Pretty Boy Contest was happening and using the one from Love it was theorized that around a decade had passed since then, which ended up being true.
2. The stage play had a few original songs and characters exclusive to it so unless you watched the full performance, you probably weren’t able to witness all of them. One of the characters is called “Robato Deniro”, as romanized in the stage play booklet I own.
3. The nurse and the cafeteria staff from the s1 mobile game appear in the background in around the first half of s2 ep3.
4. S2 had an unfinished manga that was only available online and was never released on physical format; it was centered around the defense club and sometimes the conquest club and Beppu brothers. All that’s left from what I know are the scans linked on magicalgirlsandcerulean’s blog.
5. This isn’t that obscure because it’s talked about in the anime, but I’m mentioning it because I think many people dropped it before the ova, where right at the beginning it is revealed that the alien that resucitated Mr. Tawarayama twice was, as described by Io, a “mulberry-colored naked mole rat-looking thing”, and was nicknamed “Moley-san” by Yumoto. At least in the anime, we had never heard before of who this was and it never appeared on screen nor was mentioned again.
6. In HK ep8, Karurusu promises the knights to grant a wish if they show him how earthlings spend summer. Kyoutarou reveals at the end of the episode that he wished that summer lasted one more day so he could spend it doing nothing, which prompts Ichiro to theorize that it’s the 32nd of august, and the next day is the second 1st of september.
7. The stage play was was held from march 10th to 13rd, of which the latter is Ryuu’s birthday. There’s an additional recording of a small celebration with cake focused on Ryuu and Io.
8. Atsushi mentions his older sister in the flashback at the beginning of s1 ep4, but she never appears or is mentioned again.
9. There’s a few posts on tumblr theorizing about what happened to the Hakone parents since Yumoto only says in s2 ep3 that according to Gora, “they are busy with their hot springs tour”. En mentions that it’s a bit suspicious, but it’s all the information we have from the anime. Posts talk about the parents perhaps passing away from an accident or an illness, thus the reason why Gora was so worried about Yumoto’s cold in s1 ep10, but from another post I think it’s implied in the second novel that they actually left their home when Yumoto was still a toddler.
10. It’s no secret that the surnames of the characters are all real onsens in Japan that even the seiyuus have visited, but apparently the Arima onsen has two different kinds of water, “kinsen (gold hot spring)” and “ginsen (silver hot spring)”, with different properties each, and the Kusatsu onsen water also has certain properties, both that were used to build the characters. Additionally, Ryuu’s favorite food are Sato Nishiki cherries, which are grown in the same prefecture, Yamagata, as his onsen, Zaou.
11. The press club lose relevance after s1, with only Kinosaki and Tazawa reappearing briefly in s2 ep2 to interview the Beppu twins after they arrive at the school. Tazawa doesn’t even have lines. Hireashi is mentioned by Zundar in ep11.
12. What the heck
Tumblr media Tumblr media
13. Exclusively in the manga we see that Arima met Kinshiro and Atsushi when they were little and they were good friends, but when they met again as adults, Kinshiro seemingly didn’t remember Arima. Atsushi, however, stated that Kinshiro’s talent is remembering people’s faces and names, so Arima wonders if he’s just trying to distance himself from him. He also explains to Akoya that he follows Kinshiro and obeys him because as a child, he was fascinated by his radiant smile. This is never talked about in the anime.
14. Like the previous point, the anime never shows Akoya being bullied, at most just a slight dislike of his full name, but the manga shows that he was made fun of for it and how he actually hates his surname, to the point of introducing himself formally to the president and vicepresident of the student council as “Holy Angel Akoya”.
15, 16, 17, 19. Batonama lives were the livestreams done through the franchise by the defense club seiyuus on youtube and niconico. They’re all on youtube, without any kind of translation.
Love-ko is a girl with a shell bikini drawn on a piece of cardboard that was used as a girlfriend in the Batonama Love! lives, acted by the seiyuus themselves.
RobiHachi has one episode full of official Boueibu artwork and a parody of the series too, a Love-ko doll appears, and Wombat appears as well, named “The Don”. It received an english dub, so for a bit, people were excited that Wombat was going to speak in english too. Also, various mechas appear in both Boueibu and RobiHachi.
18. The director of Fairy Ranmaru (Masakazu Hishida if I’m not wrong) revealed in an interview that he was inspired by Boueibu and aimed to make a show like that.
20, 21. The website super-groupies.com has results for defense and conquest club lingerie sets, dc and VEPPer tote bags, the Beppus’ scarf rings, dc bath sets and the pumps magicalgirlsandcerulean mentioned. I’ve found the s1 Loveracelets and Caerula Adamas’ ring on different sites, the True Loveracelets on TheChara’s twitter and the Happybraces (apparently called “Hapibure”) on broccoli.co.jp but I’m not sure where exactly they were all announced and sold, so I’ll just drop that.
22, 33. Boueibu was originally pretty much a copy of Sailor Moon, I think they were all going to be called “Lackluster Moon” and that stuff and be literally Sailor Moon genderbent. They were all different from color palettes to physical features (except Yumoto’s), and Ryuu was a shota, even smaller than Yumoto. Their names were also very reminiscent of the five Sailor Senshis’. Even if they made it more original, the show is still clearly inspired by Sailor Moon (just look at Caerula Adamas lol) and Pretty Cure. It has also referenced, very blatantly, animes like Doraemon, Detective Conan, Aikatsu and even Vocaloid, when Kyoutarou tries to guess what Karurusu is saying with ““Just Google It, Asshole”?” in ep1.
23. Wombat’s real name and the name of his planet sound like gibberish to the earthlings and ends up being named after the Earth animal, but Zundar, Dadacha, Karurusu and Furanui all have original names. And I think Hireashi means “goldfish”?
24. If you google “zundar technology”, it’s actually a company in Shanghai, China. Aren’t Wombat and Zundar always talking about “advanced alien technology”?
25. Zundar and Dadacha are siblings, so are Karurusu and Furanui, and so are their father King Kamopapa and their uncle minister Wao, but neither are the same species and, except the first two, not even the same color. But they are supposedly related because they share birthmarks or something like that...
26. Everyone who’s in this fandom knows about the pixel blur and voice pitch censor from s1, but I’ve added it anyway because it’s so rare for mahou shoujo and shounen animes to explain why the heroes aren’t recognized when transformed.
27. A good while of s2 ep11 is spent discussing Zundar’s ex-wife and his problems to give child support. Naturally, he gets mad at this.
28. “Money doesn’t betray” (s1 ep6) and “The despair hidden behind your smile that comes from not being understood” (s3 ep11) are sentences that came out of nowhere and implied that the people they were said by (Io) or about (Taiju) respectively had some kind of angst going on but were never explained at all. They’re famous for just that.
29. The Beppu twins’ house in Andromeda shown in flashbacks had strange green circles that apparently are from another anime I don’t know but honestly I didn’t get it very well... It was revealed on a tweet from Takamatsu.
30. Alien language mostly appeared in s2 due to the many flashbacks of Aki and Haru in Andromeda, but in Boueibu s1, it appears on the Zundar Needle before it is shot on the human. It appears a lot through RobiHachi as well, due to being a story about travelling through space. There might be an alphabetical chart somewhere, but I can’t assure it exists, I might even have dreamed it.
31. Hikaru Midorikawa as the melon monster, Kousuke Toriumi as the bishounen monster, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as the kotatsu and panda monsters and Takuya Eguchi as the remote controller monster in s1 and 2, before going on to voice the main cast in HK. Keisuke Koumoto voiced Hatchi Kita in RobiHachi as well as Akihiko in Boueibu, and the characters look similar.
A new addition is that so far Boueibu is the only anime I’ve seen where children weren’t voiced by female seiyuus, but by actual children. Personally, it’s charming and makes it so much more realistic, specifically since no women appear in the franchise at all either (not counting Protag-chan in the game).
32. Speaking of seiyuus, Can I Destroy The Earth? had a dub shown in ep11/12 (?) that made Gora the villain that wanted Earth to stay the same and not progress, against the monsters that supposedly wanted to bring good things to earthlings. Aki and Haru quickly dismissed this dub as fake. (I made a mistake in the title in the previous post btw)
34. As seen in the glossary in the Boueibu Mook (I think, but might not be the mook), Caerula Adamas’ speeches are based on an old japanese detergent commercial that went “Gold, silver, pearl, gift”.
35. In the manga there’s a short parody of the first chapter of Sailor Moon with “Pretty Boy Guardian Gakuran Akoya”. The conquest club manga was released before the anime, so I remember reading somewhere that a fake website appeared for the Gakuran Akoya manga, before turning into the conquest club manga website in the day of its release.
36. Cgi was used a few times in the anime: s2 ep10 for a short sequence of the defense club on a rollercoaster and the carousel monster, ep11 for a cenital shot of the Battle Lovers singing, and HK ep12 for the Honyalaland soldiers and the Wao mecha.
37. The toothbrush incident in s1 ep7. (It’s definitely well-known but it’s so weird lol)
38. “We hope we can see each other again someday!” Something along those lines was the last text to appear in the last episode of HK, implying a s2. We all know how that went.
