Hello and time for my last art masterpost for September, for the Destiel serial killer AU "Ligaments"! Who doesn't love some murder and blood and mayhem along with your Dean/Cas romance and sexy times? ;) What drew me to the story was the road trip aspects and varied locations which can always be a lot of fun to paint. So I wanted to do pieces that included specific elements of where Dean & Cas went in their travels, from the mountains of Utah to the ocean views of Florida.

Thank you to @dwinchester1979 for being such an enthusiastic and encouraging partner throughout the bang! It was a delight working with you on this and I hope everyone enjoys the story. Go read it on AO3!

So, y'all know I don't really ship Destiel at all. But then I saw someone in the DOBB (@destielomegaversebigbang ) needed a pitch hitter artist, and I decided to look what the story had to offer. Despite the ship, the story was right up my alley. I decided to help out and met nIks, which is a very nice person to talk to.

I'm new to making art for Bangs, and I had some unplanned stuff happen that slowed me down, but I managed 😎😎😎

This was a Big Bang, which means I had to make two full pieces. Here they are

The first one depicts a scene from chapter 3 of the fic with Alastair and Dean. The scene is part of a bigger, extremely explicit and hard scene, so beware while reading.

The second one depicts Castiel and Emma, when in the hospital to have her checked.

My plan was to have the two pictures to depict and give completely different feelings - the first had to be sad, dark, possibly scary. The second had to light and hopeful.

Due to my laptop being sent to repair, I cannot look up the time I spent on each drawing. I do know I spent over 6 hours on the first one.

got some art for a round in the @destielomegaversebigbang. got to draw lots of new things with this fic which is always fun and partly why I started doing bangs at all

with the banner, I was actually given a color scheme by the author to try out, which is why everything is so...green and tan. I wanted to represent the uh weird chastity belt thing without actually showing it, so I designed a belt with fancy Celtic designs on both the belt buckle and the belt itself (which were made to look like 's's for Supernatural). the keys mirror the belt as Cas is the key to unlocking it in the fic, and the background with its dangerously off centered dots and wooden board sort of title are because Cas owns a hardware store in the fic. I definitely didn't overdo it on the symbolic silver color I continuously reused

I originally chose the fic due to this scene being described in the claims, where Dean and Cas bump into each other in a hardware store and all kinds of stuff spills around them on the ground. admittedly I didn't know Cas worked in the hardware store from the claims, but this did give me a great opportunity to draw all kinds of stuff I never have before (mostly in the background with all the tools and idk plates and stuff everywhere). I wanted to imply that Cas knows about hunting and monsters and such, so I not only have iron, silver, and salt bullets on display on the counter, but also added a devil's trap sticker on the cash register next to the cat one and the 'save <3 (bee) bees' one. everything is charged by the dollar instead of any of the $x.99 stuff due to a thought I had about Cas being too blunt to bother with making things seem cheaper (and if any of the prices are way off, that's because I have no clue how much any of this stuff would be ignore that)

I did originally have their faces turned a little less and Cas looking more...well, like Cas, but I like the vibe of the later version better since they seem more friendly instead of like strangers having their first ever mutually gay awakening moment. this one just looks kind of awkward. thank goodness I used references for the kneeling positions for once though 🎉 (I think Cas' was some lady gardening lol)

the art limit for the bang was actually brought down, but I did two pieces for the minibang fic anyway and added the scene of Dean lying on the couch and Cas with his weirdly long right arm (oops) cupping his face. when I read the scene, I just immediately pictured Cas owning an ugly floral grandma couch, which turns out to be the kind of disaster couch the author kind of pictured Cas as having as well. it's such an ugly couch I love it

(not that anyone probably noticed but I did draw this a while ago which is why Dean's hair isn't consistent with the new way I draw it. Cas' is about as messy as always though 👌)

I’ll be putting more information about each drawing below the “Keep Reading”, as well as the 3rd piece I drew for this fic!

Alright, welcome to the extra ramblings! So first and foremost... here’s the 3rd piece:

Aaaaaaaaah!! Not going to lie, I was really hesitant and shy at the idea of making something suggestive like this piece... but reading seasidemeow’s words during this part... the image REFUSED to leave my brain! So I took the plunge and decided to go for it! The lighting was a challenge to get just right, lots and lots of layers that ended up not being used... But I’m happy with how it turned out!

The next piece is the one with Dean facing down the two hellhounds. This was another scene that when I read it just stood out to me so much that I knew I really wanted to draw it! The pose on this drawing was the challenging part because it happened to be the classic “I can see it in my head so clearly, but I can’t translate it into paper!” XD I fortunately found just the right references to get this piece where I wanted it to be. (Two of which coming from Disney... the dead hellhound’s reference came from The Lion King (right when the wildebeest runs across the screen and we see Mufasa’s body under the tree), and the other came from Beauty and the Beast where Beast fights against the wolves). References are our friends to grow and become better, I promise. <3

The last piece, I think I have a slight obsession with night scenes, because when I read this part my brain was immediately like “MUST DRAW NOW!!” It was such a romantic scene and I wanted to do it justice as best I could! I took my time in making sure Dean and Cas lined up just right, that the colors all made sense, and that the lighting was just perfect! I am proud of each of my drawings... but this one might slightly be my favorite one. XD

When it comes to the banner, I wanted to be sure that I encompassed the message of the story and the title of the story itself. I had came up with a few other sketches like some that featured a forest with two paths, or Dean in the middle of a fork in the road... but after talking with my author, we settled on this concept. I came up with the idea of the pregnancy stick in one hand, and seasidemeow came up with the amazing idea of having Cas calling in be in his other hand. A fun easter egg for the banner... the background texture is the floor pattern of my own bathroom. So that’s fun!

I also decided to come up with a chapter divider for the story which can be seen here:

Honestly, working with seasidemeow was such an honor and privilege! Not only was she a fantastic person to collaborate with and to get wonderful feedback from, but her writing is just breath taking. If you have read the story, then you know just how serious and deep the story gets. And I think she did such an incredible job with writing it! There was so much care and thought put into it and I feel so incredibly honored to work with her on this. This story feels so so important to me, and after what happened back during the summer, it feels even more important now to have this story. Again, I feel so honored to have been a part of it.

Thank you so much to the mods for running this event! Especially for letting me jump in as an artist a bit later in the game!

Saddened by the historical revisionist nature in which non-supernatural fans credit supernatural for fandom tropes and phenomenons.

Like... for 5 seasons what built the supernatural fandom was wincest and CWRPF (which was a community closely tied to supernatural fandom but had its own distinct lore and subculture, as show-focused RPF fandom goes). And then destiel got big and henceforth everyone equivocate the supernatural fandom to destiel. People are like "supernatural fandom started omegaverse" and everyone who wasn't there just assume it's destiel but NO. IT'S AN OFFSHOOT OF THE SUPERNATURAL FANDOM. It's the CWRPF fandom! It was a fic featuring jensen and jared and altho the fic isn't incest it'd not have existed out of the context of the incest enthusiastic fandom!

Similar with early history of Big Bangs.

I wasn't even in the supernatural fandom I just followed all the fandom lore as it developed cause my friend was into it.

Currently Stranger Things, but I do have some Fargo s5 fic in the works. Back in the day it was a lot of Supernatural, Doctor Who, Check Please!, Schitt’s Creek, (regrettably) The Big Bang Theory, Marvel, The Mortal Instruments, and The Infernal Devices

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Familiar to Me (Supernatural), Intervention (Supernatural), felled by you (Stranger Things), Avenging Barbarian (Stranger Things), and A Truth Universally Acknowledged (Stranger Things)

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I do! Mainly because I like the interaction (especially when readers have predictions/ world-building thoughts). I also screenshot my favorite ones for when I need motivation or a pick me up.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Probably Happy Springtime Cas (Supernatural) because it’s Main Character Death

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

This Ken Has a Boyfriend! (Stranger Things) because it is pure crack and delight ❤️

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not so much hate, but I could always tell when someone hasn’t seen You’ve Got Mail based on how critical they are of Cas in A Truth Universally Acknowledged. Which, at that point, please discuss it with your friends and not me. I decided to follow the plot of You’ve Got Mail pretty close, and for some people it was too much that Dean lost his store like Kathleen. (And I only cried about it twice, which is a win for me).

9. Do you write smut?

yes, primarily omegaverse and kink. oh if 15 year old sweetpea could see me now skdlfjsdjf

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Gonna show my age here, but for my 100th fanfic on FF.net I wrote a SuperWhoLock fic. I’ve also written a Supernatural/Check Please! crossover, and I’m in the middle of writing a Fargo/Stranger things crossover (Gator with older Steve/Eddie, anyone?).

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

No, thank god!

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes! Birthday Wish (Stranger Things) was translated by Azalea_Violetta

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I’m currently working on a co-written fic for a ST Femslash Server I’m in (not sure how much I can say publicly!). But I’ve been apart of many multi-voice podfic (podfic voiced with a whole cast instead of one person).

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

Currently gripped by Steddie.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

The bio-bdsm destiel fic. I might get back to it some day, but my Stranger Things fascination gripped me about the same time I was noodling with it. Also, I’m so bad about finishing long fics 🤦‍♀️

Description, sentence fragments as poetic license

Plot v. cool scene, anxiety editing

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I’d like to apologize for 16 year old me for slapping Google Translate lines in fic. I’m sure there were many cringy translations. Otherwise, I don’t think too hard when I see them in fic.

pinkie swear (Stranger Things). It was my last fill for Stobin Month and it was so cathartic and enjoyable to write. I just love Steve and Robin’s friendship ❤️

If I have any specific art goals for 2023, it’s to hopefully have the chance to work on some more different characters within the SPN ‘verse. I also want to find the time to do some more pieces in my trueform series and character portraits - probably for MomentoCon and wherever else I might see some of the actors I haven’t had the chance to see at a convention yet.  I’ve been working on updating my Teepublic shop with more of my art, so you can get prints, bags, cases, mugs, and of course t-shirts with a lot of these pieces there. I may be opening a redbubble shop soon as well for some of the merch they offer that Teepublic doesn’t (as much as I love Teepublic’s quality and pricing.)
