There used to be empty lots, two of them connected, right down the road from the house I grew up in. When I was in my late teens, my dad spotted this absolutely beautiful Japanese maple. He loved it so much he went through the process of finding the owner of the land and reaching out to him to tell him he wanted that tree. The guy was like "yeah sure give me 100 grand for it" and obviously dad was like, "...no". Well, the lots sat empty for years, but he eventually sold the land to a developer, and last year a house was built on the property.... sparing the lone Japanese maple. I'd drive by there as the house was being built and I was worried the tree had been killed in the construction, but up until today, it remained.... and now it's gone. Whoever bought the house ripped it out.

It felt kind of like a stab in the heart. This tree that my dad loved, that the previous owner obviously loved, that I had come to love... had been protected for so long, only to get ripped out in the end.

I’m so fucking salty right now, that post about what kinda suck-suck a peashooter could do led to the dark gods of Eros to strike me with inspiration, so I started writing a one-shot. Then the dark gods of the machine decided that I was committing a sin against common decency and decided to crash my notepad app without any warning, so I lost the, oh, 4k words of effort I’d put in.

But I’m still inspired! But anything I’ve tried writing since that first attempt’s been shit compared to what I had the first time through! Truly I’m in hell.
