yes, more or less. because able-bodied people are always willing to rig the system for themselves due to a sense of entitlement. this is why i said i’d reserve judgment on the disability itself, per se, but was definitely willing to side eye her usage of ‘worst ever.’ because, as so many people both with my disorder and without have pointed out: it’s not about who has it worse. disabled people, generally speaking, overwhelmingly understand that.

a friend sent me the whole disney theme parks fiasco about allowing disabled people to use the fast lanes to board, for example, but able-bodied folks would go so far as to ‘rent’ disabled people for a day just to avoid having to stand in lines and abused it so badly that it ended up being discontinued.

another example is service animals v. fake service animals and the ‘let’s take charge’ legislation to do away with the latter. it’s good in theory and utterly rubbish in practice, because in america you cannot ask someone in depth about their service animal. therefore you really have no way to prove anything -- thus making the legislation ceremonial at best -- lest we overhaul the system to allow for disabled people to show that yes, their animal is legit. which is something most disabled people are, sadly, in favor of. myself included. as i’ve had my family’s legitimate service animals be accosted and abused in the public for not being taken as legitimate enough.

so while jumping hoops for accommodation and recognition is ass at its utter best? this is what we’ve been forced to do because able-bodied folks are willing to game the system for their own benefit. and it happens all the bloody fucking time. if you want to see a very extreme example of this, look at what gypsy rose blanchard’s mother did, even if that doesn’t excuse the eventual outcome. but gypsy was literally being abused and malnourished and shopped around so her mother could live on the pity that anyone was willing to toss her for having a disabled daughter.

it’s out there and it’s real and it’s unfortunate when people do this. it reflects awfully on us when we had nothing to do with it and just want to get by as best as we can. so i don’t want to have to treat anyone’s coming out with a disability with skepticism if they tell me they have something, but there are times where sincerely feel i have to. but i truly don’t. that’s something i do want to stress. but i am glad that everyone who follows me who has a same or similar diagnosis came and said ‘wow, that doesn’t seem right at all for this condition.’ because it’s not, at least not when it’s ‘severe.’ mild, yes, but not severe. and i’m gonna to be skeptical because if you are lying, you’re exactly the fucking reason why it takes a median age of ten years for this condition to be diagnosed. because we are written off time and time again unless we are literally at death’s door with the most severe symptoms on display.
