Hiya. Hope you're doing well and having a nice January. Really hope this question isn't too annoying to reply to but lately I've been trying to create references for my OCs so that I can finally share my art with other people. Thing is, I'm completely struggling with creating reference sheets! When I start one, I end up just not knowing what I should add and I either get this feeling that there's not enough or that there is too much unnecessary drawings that are just there to fill space. Sure there's no real right or wrong with these but they never look appealing. I was wondering how that process of creating references is for you, what is it that you think about adding that is important in yours, especially when making one to share with other people. Things you think should be there, basically.

So what I always make sure to have for my references (especially my comic ones!) is a front/quarter view, side view, and back view!

For example:

Sabrinia here has really wild hair, and from different angles it doesn’t look the same. I made sure to include how her hair looks in the back, and I made it a little transparent to you can see what her outfit looks like behind. (Also obligatory BALD mention lol)

Now, the way I decide what and what not to add to my references is kinda on a whim. As for comic specifically, since I know how to draw these guys from muscle memory I tend to keep it simple.

But, for characters that have a more complicated design, I like to add little footnotes and images showing what I couldn’t show on my turnaround sheet. (I sometimes do this for my comic guys too!)

Another example, I just finished this yesterday actually haha! I redesigned her, and this is what I had to work with:

I sketched out her design and picked colors (I make sure to put them on the side so it’s easier to color pick and see values!)

Then after I liked what I had, I put that sketch on this reference canvas (based on IDW wonderful Sonic ones). I drew lines to matchup her main features/main guidelines, and sketched it out from there.

As I was drawing the side view I realized I needed to have two different back views since her design isn’t totally symmetrical!

I like to add silly expressions to fit the characters vibe in the top for fun! I haven’t done this with my comic ocs yet, just cause I’ve already drawn some expressions in the comic itself so I just go back and cross reference if I need to!

As for all the extra stuff at the bottom…

Looking at her turnarounds I thought the spikes on her wrist cuffs weren’t well seen so I made a quick drawing of those.

When sketching her shoes, I drew the open part with a weird shape and I wanted to include it since the gems covered them up!

Also made sure to have a good ref for her weapon somewhere too. Same with a harness for it!

Didn’t have any expressions of her mouth open, so I wanted to point out her weird teeth! And her eyes are shaped different, so I made sure to also point that out!

Overall, what helps me make references and figure out what and what not to put there is to think about what is important to the design itself. What id do is definitely be sure to have a front (or 3/4 view), side, and back view! If that’s too much just a front and back view are dandy!

For details, if there’s something in the design that sticks out, make sure to have that in the spotlight somewhere!

Media I Loved Last Week + Progress Report

My favorite thing I listened to is You Only Love Me by Rita Ora. Not me like

trying to hear if that's Taika's voice or not. And if it is... And if the song is about him... That's some pretty huge Fleetwood Mac Rumors energy. Like, that is a hard throbbing 9 inches of Fleetwood Mac Rumors energy. The thing is while I would like that for the #drama (and the Fleetwood Mac Rumors energy), I would hate that so much more because :'( I want them to be happy. So if it is Taika I hope it's either about some other guy and she just used his voice or they already Worked It Out previous to recording (or post I guess, that's fine too. during?). Anyway. 9/10 for the. fucking song itself. Someone who can hear sounds good c'mere and help me be an actual crazy person.

ETA: I listened to the song 8 more times while writing this post, and that is definitely Taika's voice. BTW. "Reetz, it's me." REETZ. Reetz!!! "This how I am, and this is how you are." I'm going to dig to China with my teeth.

My favorite thing I watched last week is Hustlers. To be more accurate my favorite thing I watched last week is Marry Me, but since I think I've already said that I decided to list the one I hadn't seen before. I love women. Don't know what else to tell you folks. I love women. 9/10

My favorite thing I read last week is sure as the sun come up from the south by cardinal_sin. To be totally honest I was not particularly thrilled with anything I read last week, but out of the available options this one is the best. It's pretty hot, but I didn't like the Wants A Good Grade In Therapy dialogue or the semi-frequent kink immersion breaking Izzy (POV character) did. As in, it's a blushing bride roleplay, and Izzy spent half of it thinking about how they're not really married, he's not really a girl, he's not really a virgin, he can't really get knocked up, etc. What did I say? 8? It's probably more like a 7/10.

I wrote 18 words total last week lol RIP. That was just a braindump note for an idea for a dark fantasy horromance to potentially write after I finish everything the fuck else on the docket. Still no additional progress on Curse The Messenger, but I'm planning to re-draft it this coming week to Get Back Into It. Wish me luck. (Also this heart is a different shade of pink on paper, but doesn't look that way on camera.)

outfits subject to change but for now thats what it is...

okay SO! the next thing to finish obv the beta trolls line up. honestly its not that difficult bc the line art isnt actually my reg line art im jus cleaning it up then coloring

AFTER THAT!! i decided what im gonna do for this project and thats make a game. its gonna b done in rpg maker an its for myself rather than anyone else so idc if its not super polished.

well actually im makin multiple games. theyll be like short chapters of certain events in the story. the first one im doin focuses on john summoning davesprite. i have it all planned out event-wise the only problem is idk how to end it. ihave some ideas so i jus need to think it out

honestly the most difficult part will b the fact i want to hand draw everything which is either gonna b super bad or super good. honestly even tho im not as good as i wanna be i find my style charming and i think drawing a bunch of objects and backgrounds will be good practice :) yea its a pretty big project but im not really doing anything else and ive begun to shift my life focus on: fuck it, just go ahead and do it

so far its been pretty good!

plus ill be planning out the houses / town layout / sprites for this one which will 100% be reused [or remade when i get better lol] in the future! and this will be good practice for learning rpg maker. i bought it a few years back on sale but never did anything with it

i rlly wanna get to drawing and figuring out how to do settings and things but im using my dads mac to hook up my drawing pad but i need an hdmi adapter :( ill have to wait a few days till the weekend to go get one. so in the meantime im gonna plan the story out and watch more tutorials

the main thing i have to remember is not to get too ambitious on my first try and also that this is for me rather than anyone else! i mean if others enjoy it id be glad but mainly its my story and im doing it to have fun :)

its a storyboard! im making a humanized version of a scene from the new G5 movie (though i wont say which scene)

i can show you the wip human designs ive made for the mane 5, though! (+info on some design choices under the cut, but remember that these are just wips)

i originally designed sunny with an orange sweatshirt and sneakers, but i decided to basically overhaul her outfit to look more breezy/summer friendly. its admittedly pretty plain (and i might change the colors on her shirt so that her sleeves dont blend in so much to her hair), but i wanted it to look like something someone would actually wear in hot weather. so. flipflops

izzys outfit is goth and glitter. the unicorns in the movie all have an emo thing going on, so i wanted izzys outfit to kind of look like she’d bought an outfit at the store and then modified it herself to have more glitter and bright colors. i know she says “im a bit too sparkly for bridlewood” in the movie, and that i wouldve been justified in just giving her an extremely girly-girl outfit with pinks and purples, but i just wanted to give her an outfit with an overall darker palette to contrast the other characters. i imagine she keeps sewing supplies, glitter, etc. in the little bags on her hip :) little girls like goth characters and they love excitable characters, so i think combining the two would make for a really cute fashion doll. sort of like a purple draculaura?

zipps outfit is probably going to be the one to change the most the more i draw her. the only notes i can give are that 1. i wanted it to be flowy and somewhat regal, and 2. i totally hit a wall designing it and it is just kinda ugly imo. sorry i did you dirty zipp, ill figure out what to do with your outfit later on lol

pipps outfit is my faaavorite. her dress is meant to mimic her hoof (pink fading to white, and then a layer of gold fabric to represent the gold of her hooves), and her shoe design is a reference to the leg accessories on her crystal adventure toy. i gave her a fluffy shawl instead of a feathery boa because iiiii like it

finally, hitchs outfit is just pretty basic. he is sheriff, he gets sheriff outfit. i wanted to give him something flashier, but these are designs for how the characters would look in their very first appearances, so this is all he gets. ideally, throughout the movie id want them to get different outfits (they all dress in more “gothic” fashion to help blend in with the unicorns, for example)

i dont have a real channel, since i only have two videos and theyre both just compilations. i would like to start making art related videos (probably just storyboards and things like that), but i have a bad habit of starting projects and then never finishing them, so thats a hurdle i have to get over first lol . but im gonna really try to finish this one!!!

what would your stand be?

literally have had this ask in my inbox forever because maN, despite my mAIn commission work being character design I couldn't fucking puzzle piece this design together for the life of me to the point that iv had a slight ongoing headache since I started it and I still dont know how much i like the design

ANYWAYS, two color palletes for the stand, because the user? easy peasy got that one out of the way right away. The stand??? Literally up till 1 am trying to figure out what I wanted to do with it and I still dont know. Purple design was from last nights go at it, second one was another attempt this morning and idk. I just dont know? i think i like the purple more?? mmm i just know Radio Star would be HUGE

but their named after the song I used to make my mom play in the car over and over and over as a kid on the way to school. I remember the way the song cut out at the end on the fade out I thought was my mom turning the song off before it was done, and id get SO accusey that she was doing some kinda secret car button trick to turn it off before it could finish.

I have no idea what power they would have thats like the 1 thing i 100% couldn't decide myself lol. but its whatever, good chance I wont draw them again after this post. But their stand user is some reckless hothead wrestler who talks big shit before picking fights and then doing some dumbshit that tends to get himself hurt. Maybe its dumb luck or he's actually more skilled than his antics let on, but he tends to win fairly often. Not a born stand user, I just knOW someone would see this dumbass and go, oh how could I NOT turn him into a stand user, I just KNOW it will be funny to watch.

Ojamajo classpects! (Explanations below! Spoiler warning for Ojamajo Doremi sharp)

-Doremi: Page of Heart! The page’s journey is especially slow and difficult, which is perfect for our favorite protagonist! Of course the Worlds-Unluckiest-Bishoujo™ is gonna have the most difficult journey. She’s a heart player because shes nice to everyone, and despite being a bit of a clutz, all of her friends love her and she’d make a cool leader! She keeps everyone working together and motivated, and is very important for the Ojamajo’s survival in Sburb. Also thought this classpect could represent how in Sharp, she wasnt always the best at raising Hana-chan at first, but eventually became very important to her :3

[more sprites to be added soon!]

-Hadzuki: Maid of Light! The Light aspect represents knowledge and enlightenment, and the Maid class “keeps the order of their aspect.” I chose this because Hadzuki is smart and organized, and would definitely be able to help everyone understand whats going in in the game, and use her knowledge to help plan out their next move.

-Aiko: Rogue of Time! We needed a time player and thought Aiko could probably do a good job! I chose rogue because rogue sounds mischievous, and i thought she could be a lil mischievous :3 I also thought the “equivalent exchange” aspect and the ability to take someone else’s time could fit her character. Out of the Ojamajos, she’s the most likely to put someone in their place. None of the Ojamajos would be that big on actually fighting, but Aiko could atleast give someone what they deserve. I also feel she’s capable of doing all the work that comes with being the time player, being slightly more independent and hardworking because of her home life, and she’d do a good job in that role.

-Momoko: Heir of Space! I thought Momoko could make a good space player because shes silly goofy, and space players are always silly goofy :3 I chose heir because the heir of space was described as especially creative, and figures yea shes pretty silly goofy this sounds cool.

-Onpu: Seer of Void! I’m still deciding on this one tbh. I think heir of void could be cool, but we already have an heir. i also think the mind aspect could fit her well, but void is also really cool. (i also made some cool art of god tier onpu and i dont want it to go to waste lol) (plus she looks so cool in the seer outfit) we decided on void because it just sounds cool and seer sounds like it fits onpu well. but when i remember her whole mind-control thing she had going on at the end of season 1, and the fact that shes an actor, something like heir of mind sounds really cool! but she looks so cool in the seer outfit... plus id have to change Momoko to a mage or seer but that doesnt sound right... unless i change hadzuki to a understanding class and momoko to a creation class... but this is getting confusing so onpu is seer of void until further notice!

-Hana-chan: Bard of Doom! Alright, I know it sounds bad, but it actually works. I thought it would be really funny if one of the Ojamajos was a bard because bards are hilarious, and when i looked at bard of doom it actually fit pretty good! The ability to destroy doom itself is something that i feel works well for Hana-chan. [major spoilers for Sharp ending ahead] I also feel like the bard of doom having the possible ability of bringing someone back to life could call back to the ending of sharp where Hana-chan woke the Ojamajos from their 1000 year sleep, lifting the curse that doomed them to that fate. Of course giving her the hope aspect would be more straightforward and fit her color pallet more, but bards are really funny, there’s a difference between destroying doom and creating hope, and I feel Hana fits the former better (though I have not finished Dokkan, so I could be wrong)

bonus character: Pop! i thought it would be hilarious if everyone just prototyped their fairies and were talking about it together, but Doremi chimed in like “uhh... i actually didnt prototype my fairy...” and everyones like “ok what did you prototype?” “i prototyped Pop!” and everyones just like o_o (on a serious note though, she was most likely doomed to die since she isnt playing the game, so what they dont know is that this is the best option they had lol)

of course this is only the first prototype, eventually somethings gonna get added on and itll be really funny

1. Favorite drawing from this year

damn thats actually difficult to decide but it might be the screenshot style ones i did, i really like doing the backgrounds and stuff and trying to match the colors on the character to the lighting of the background

2. longest a drawing has taken to finish

that one would probably be this one, i had the dialogue and a few sketches saved in a folder for ages, and id come back to it every week or so and adjust it a little or change the wording, but i just didnt like how it was turning out. there was a point where i just scrapped everything and redid it in a storyboard style and changed all the speech to make it actually make sense lol ^^ im glad i did, i really liked how it turned out

although, this one might have taken the longest for a simple picture, i dont usually do lines that clean

17. favorite oc/sona drawing

i actually dont have a sona or reeaally any ocs, the only one is one i made up for the therapy cat au, bc i needed a captain for the ship macaque would take out to sea, she betrays maq to sell him to lbd but she was just doing what was best for her crew, trying to get on lbds good side. i came to quite like her but i never posted about her individually

i didnt post this before but heres her reference with a couple screenshots of the comic she was in! shes a lionfish demon, and can produce a toxin from her spines that she coats her hook weapon with!

Masks and Remaking Kandi Blah Blah

this is my THIRD time writing this post up

Soooo let's talk about that briefly. Why would you remake kandi?

Maybe the string is wearing thin. Maybe you don't like a color you used, or the type of beads or string you used. Regardless of, the general consensus is that remaking kandi you were traded for a reason beyond changing the string to renew it isn't a good idea. Obviously kandi is ever-changing, and this idea might change. Who knows?

Once you've decided you wanna go through with the remaking process, you've gotta disassemble it. I'd suggest starting from the bottom or top and just cutting the string, taking off the affected beads, and cut again. I'd advise going slow so you don't lose any beads. If you're also like me and have really bad vision-- hello y'all-- I'd suggest sorting apart colors you get confused. Otherwise you're gonna be shining a flashlight in your bag of beads for an hour wondering 'is this black? or dark blue?' Plot twist: it's neither and it's dark purple.

Today I'm gonna be using a modified version of this pattern by T3TR1S, with the old mask pictured below. Never too late to start on Halloween preperations, right?

Regardless of the pattern you decide to use, it's gonna look something like this when you enlargen it/click on it.

There's no numbers though, right? If you recall from one of my multi-stitch tutorials, this is because masks can be started from a few different places and can be finished in a couple of ways that're all similar. Having numbers would likely get confusing.

First, you're gonna be chosing a place to start your mask. I personally like to pick somewhere around the middle of the pattern. You need to start your mask from one of the straight sides, and there has to be at least two beads to start off with. For instance, starting from the two beads at the bottom of the left side would work, but using the very last bead-- only one of them-- wouldn't. This is because of how brick stitch-- or more commonly called peyote stitch-- works, which will be explained shortly. AKA, right now.

First, you're gonna wanna grab some string. I suggest about two arm's length is good for now. Take that, and fold the two ends together like so--

This is why we need where we're starting to have two beads, because that's how we start peyote stitch! I'm not going to go too much into detail on that here, because I plan on writing something on peyote stitch anyway.

Follow your pattern across whatever row you chose. It should be a straight-shot across-- there shouldn't be any weird curving or anything yet. You're gonna put on those two beads, then the one bead depicted in the middle of those two. Like this--

This picture shows where I'm starting my mask-- the two beads on the end then the one bead. You're gonna put the two beads on the string-- one per end of string you're holding together-- then you're gonna put your strings together and put the one bead through BOTH of the strings.

For this, I'm gonna end my row with two beads-- great! You... might not though. I think that's possible? Regardless, it makes everything a bit harder. At the end of your row, I highly suggest taping an end of your string down after pulling it tight, and taking the other end of your string and beginning building. You'd start building by putting on an end bead (a bead above/below where you ended, respectively) and going through the next bead that's sticking up (or the last two beads you put on). I'd build that for a row or two, and then build with the OTHER string for a row or two. From there, you can just keep going til the points, which I'll show how to handle shortly.

If you're gonna end with two beads-- great! Finish up that row, putting on the next two beads, then the one bead, then the two beads. Follow the pattern you have on hand for color changes, and make sure to keep track of which string is the TOP part of your row, or the BOTTOM part. Otherwise, you might end up with colors in the wrong place.

When you're done with that row, if you have two beads, congrats! You can tie that off using some square knots. Welcome to the building of the actual mask! The entire way this works is through putting a bead on, and going through the next one sticking up... for now. There's weird ways to starting new rows that I'll unfortunately have to cover. Look at your pattern.

In this picture, I've shown my first row. The blue marks will be representing my next row, building upwards. Building downwards would be the same thing, just toward the bottom of the pattern. In other words, the next row is depicted as the next raised beads near your last row.

Here, I've taken the liberty of highlighting the third row for you! But once you get to the end of that third row, you're probably wondering how to put that end bead on. This is the unfortunate part...

There's a couple of different methods to this. This is Vicky's old tutorial on masks, which could be useful and worth it to follow instead of this if this doesn't make sense.

I learned using iHeartRaves' video. You know, the one with people complaining in the comments about this part in particular? I spent about an hour figuring out how to do this, but I think I have the hang of it by now. So, here we go.

You're gonna put a bead on your string, the bead should be in the color of the last bead on that third row. For me, in the original pattern, it'd be black. For my modified version, it'll be red.

You see that red bead to the side there? Below the light blue one? Stick your string through the top of that, like so.

If you pull tight (and you should!) the bead will move to the top of those side beads. You can use your fingers to move it and hold it in it's proper place.

Now, take your string and go through the bottom of that light blue bead, like so...

That part might be a bit hard. Don't be afraid to move stuff around to get it in there, you can tighten it up and put the new red bead back in place after you get it through. From there, you put your string through the top of the new red bead, like so!

From there, start row 4! Your new red bead should be secure now. Everytime you come back to this side, you'll need to do that. It'll always be the same process. Put new bead on string, put string through top of bead two beads down, put string through underside of bead one bead down, put string through top of new bead.

On the other side of your mask, you can just continue building by putting the end bead on, and going through the last bead you put on. Though I suggest pulling the string for the last bead really tight, this'll keep everything together better.

Keep following your pattern until you get to the spikes part around here--

There's a part of your pattern where it doesn't go straight up anymore. It drops off and starts to make a spike. Vicky explains what to do about this pretty well here. But, even then, here's some text instructions. When you finish that row, and there's no bead to put above it to start another row, just shove your string through the last bead you put on. This'll start the spike shape. You'll just keep doing that as you go through to carry the spike higher and higher.

As you go, the spike will break off into two smaller spikes. This is fine-- just focus on one spike, building on that until it's finished. After you put that last bead on, take your string and weave it towards the middle of your mask so you can start the other spike, tie it off tight a few times, and start on the other spike. I hope that makes sense-- I swear I'd have pictures if it wasn't for tumblr's image limit. (actually you might be better off watching Vicky's video from here, I'm not gonna lie. If you wanna learn to tie off the mask and tie together the spikes from her, here's a timestamp for that.)

If you're still here, I'm sorry lol. But let's keep going! Build until the spikes and complete those on the top, then build on the bottom and make those. When you're done, you should have a shape resembling the pattern you're following.

okay ive been here for, about 4 hours. ill be back tomorrow (but in one second for you :) )

it's the next day, let's talk about lacing up masks! You're gonna want a small piece of string, doesn't have to be that long at all. You're gonna thread that through the bead in the middle of the spikes. For me, on the top, it's the black bead above the top of the libra sign. Even it out so the two ends of string are together and they're mostly equal. Then, you're gonna take the string on the left and put it through the right bead that's one up. The left string goes through the right bead one up. Then you take the left one, go one up to the right. Left one goes one up to the right. Right string goes through the left point, left string goes through the right point.

Pull that together! It should lace up into something a lot like this (photo by sarasunshine on KandiPatterns). See how her mask comes together at the top in a kinda point? That's what we're aiming for. Pull that tight and tie it off. Do the same to your bottom spikes.

We're at the final stretch! Specifically it's time for mask straps. This one is also hard to explain, so I'm gonna link you to the point in Vicky's video where she adds straps. In addition, she only laces her masks twice, while I do mine thrice. There isn't much different between the two, it depends on how you feel.

Straps. I'd highly suggest more stretchy fabric cord for this rather than clear elastic or something not so stretchy. I used all my fabric cord on this, so I'm gonna use this weird jelly glitter string I found? I genuinely have no idea where it came from. I do my straps in the same way Vicky does, and I think she can explain it better than I because she isn't limited to 10 images per post. Though, I will suggest you be careful, it's really easy to use too many beads, or to make the straps too tight or too loose. imo, i like to have a LOT of room on my string (seriously, i only used about 22 beads) because I move the beads around so they aren't on the back of my ears. by the time i'm done tying on my string, the straps are usually half string and half beads.

Just follow how Vicky does it, fiddle with it a bit, it's ultimately up to personal preference about how you'd like to do it.

Dukeceit Week Day 2: Green/Yellow

Fans of the YouTubers "Deceit" and Remus "The Duke" Sanders start to suspect that maybe, just maybe, the two of them are more than simple internet pals.

A notification ding cut Janus off mid-sentence.

“Wow, someone left their cell phone on, so professional,” he said, giving the camera a dramatic eye roll. That someone was him, of course, because he was the only one in the apartment- just him and the running livestream- but that was no excuse not to be a drama queen about it. He finished wiping flour off his hands and grabbed his phone to silence it; but the notification made him pause. He flicked his eyes up toward the camera and gave a slight smirk.

“My goodness, I’m famous,” he drawled. “The Duke himself has graced little old me with some fan art.”

Most of the comments in the chat wanted him to show it, so Janus opened up Twitter to see the full post he’d been tagged in. It was a watercolor painting of the coiled-snake chocolate sculpture- lovingly named Jake by his viewers- he’d made for his YouTube video last week; it was wearing an expression of such comedic horror that Janus had to stifle a laugh. He flicked his phone screen toward the close-up camera on his counter so his viewers could see.

“How kind of you, Remus,” he said. “All of you should go scold him for what he’s done to poor Jake here.”

Most of his viewers would know he was joking- after all, they were the ones to nickname him Deceit when he provided neither a real or fake name for his online persona. They knew full well what he was like by now.

The oven timer dinged. Janus silenced his phone and set it aside.

“And our first batch of cookies is done. You know, why don’t we show the Duke some appreciation?”

“You know, I have often been accused of actually being a little old lady, what with my fondness for knitted jumpers, rocking chairs, and incredibly fucked up murder mystery books. Today I am doing nothing to dispel this accusation, by making soup.”

The studio was dark and empty aside from Remus' workspace. Everyone else had left long ago, even his own brother, which meant that it was officially ass-o'clock in the morning (or, as most people called it, somewhere between 1 and 2 a.m.) But Remus was stuck in hyperfocus, honed in on putting the last touches on a commission that he'd been putting off for weeks. It's not that it was a tough painting- once he'd gotten started, it was actually a very creatively satisfying piece- but man, executive dysfunction could go suck a dick

“French onion soup, specifically. Because while I do like to pretend I am a classy bitch, I am also, regrettably, a lazy bitch with a distaste for anything that takes longer than one bottle of wine to make.”

Remus hated working in silence. It was stifling, almost suffocating. His brain needed noise like his lungs needed air. So when the studio had grown still and silent, Remus had flipped open his laptop and queued up some YouTube videos.

“So we have here three pounds of onions that we need to slice up, pole to pole. You’re going to cry no matter what, so if you have any memories you’ve been repressing since middle school, now is an excellent time to dredge those up.”

And if it happened to be 90% SerpenThyme videos, well. Sue him.

“Now the first rule of caramelizing onions: fast and sloppy is always better than slow and thorough… at least, that’s what every man I’ve ever slept with tells me.”

Remus choked and glanced over to his laptop screen just in time to catch Deceit's trademark smirk directed at the audience just for a moment. It was the deadpan delivery that always got him. Remus could barely hold onto a joke long enough to get through it without cackling mid-punchline, but this fucker could say the funniest shit like an off-hand comment.

He wiped his hands off on his jeans (what use were clothes if you couldn't use them as paint rags?) and pulled his laptop across the table. He typed out a quick comment, citing the timestamp of the joke, and after it was posted, he shut his laptop.

'Cause ass-o'clock was short for "get-your-ass-home-or-I’ll-kick-it" o'clock.

Janus plopped down on the couch with a slight groan. He didn’t need to stream today, but he really hated missing days. Besides… he was fine. Really.

He adjusted the camera until he was happy with the framing, and then checked the settings on his streaming software. Satisfied, he started the stream, and watched as his usual viewers rolled in.

“What do you mean I’m not in my kitchen?” Janus drawled, addressing the chat. He glanced around with an expression of faux-shock on his face. “My goodness, when did that happen?”

He chuckled, and then gestured to his surroundings. “Yes, we are in my living room today. If you must know, my closest and most trusted friend tried to murder me today- yes, Virgil, it was attempted murder and nothing less- and I survived with nary a scratch… and a broken foot, but that is beside the point. Anyway, I’m not allowed to stand for long periods of time, and I may or may not be somewhat inebriated by pain pills and couldn’t stand even if I wanted to. So we are cooking from my couch today.”

Janus paused for a few moments to read the chat messages as they popped up. A few get well soon’s, a few theories about the “attempted murder,” Virgil- who moderated his chat for him- vehemently denying the “attempted murder” but otherwise refusing to clarify the event, and a large volume of wtf why are you streaming today, take care of yourself comments, which made him smile. But one particular comment caught his eye, almost lost amid the torrent of an active chat: wait this kinda looks like the Duke’s living room?

“Oh, VampSuga,” he said, addressing that commenter in particular with a slight smirk. “I haven’t the faintest idea what you’re talking about. Anyway, since I can’t reach my oven from here, I thought some no-bake cookies were in order. For these you will need-”

"Hey guys, been a while since you've seen my face and not just whatever my hands are busy with, when it's within YouTube's terms and conditions I mean. They used to be way more lenient…" Remus trailed off for a moment, then shook his head sharply and plastered on a grin.

"Anyway! In June me and a few other creators did a fundraiser for the Trevor Project, and y'all smashed the goal, so I let you decide what video I'd make this month." He paused, and gestured to the mountain of clothes piled behind him on the bed. "And you had so many juicy ideas to choose from, but you decided to dress me up like a Barbie instead."

Remus paused to scroll through his phone for a few moments. "Ah, ok, here we go. Twitter user YoonIsMyCat- oh, BTS, nice- sent in this first outfit. Uh… future Remus, put up the post here somewhere." He gestured vaguely to his right. "Y'all went with either a fuckton more clothes or a fuckton less clothes, which I respect. Apparently this outfit is called…” He squinted at his phone. “Amish chic? I take it back, no respect at all.”

Remus cycled through the outfits his viewers sent in, which ranged from the aforementioned “Amish chic” to “2008 rave attire” to “ok now you guys are just fucking with me” (which consisted of one of those big puffy snow coats, lime green in color; booty shorts with the shrug text emoji across the ass; fuzzy pink boots; and a yellow cowboy hat to top off the whole thing. It was awful. Remus loved it.) The mountain of clothes on the bed gradually became a mess of clothes spread across the floor instead, until there was just one outfit left.

“Ok so Twitter user VampSuga sent me this outfit that I’m gonna call ‘sexy librarian.’ I couldn’t find this exact sweater online, but-” he paused for dramatic effect, before brandishing a sweater toward the camera like a bullfighter. “My boyfriend had something that was close enough.”

Remus hopped up from the bed and switched off the camera so he could change.

“They’re going to lose their minds,” a voice drawled from the doorway. Remus threw his shirt at him.

“Shoo, I’m getting naked.”

Pick Your Poison

This is my first CYOA that I’m posting. I hope you all like it. I would like to thank @queensynderella for the awesome banner on this page and for her help on how to set this thing up lol and i want to thank my twinny, even though she doesn’t have a tumblr, for the awesome banners for each result. Enjoy.

These stories take place in a VIllain AU and the events occur after all the characters have turned 21.

Warnings: Swearing, Alcohol consumption

Club Inferno was the hottest new club and you had been dying to go but no one would agree to go with you. So what if it’s on the more villainous side of the city, you think to yourself.

“It’s not like it’s some exclusively villain club.” You say to the emptiness of your apartment. “I need new friends.” You scoff. “Fuck I need a new life.” You think out loud.

You were bored with your mundane job and your boring friends who were happy with the same old thing, the same routine every day. Maybe they were more cautious because they were quirkless. Maybe you were more adventurous because you did have a quirk. Who knows? You think. Regardless, you were tired of it. You weren’t even sure how you had ended up here. You weren’t interested in becoming a hero but you wanted more than a boring office job and more than spending another Saturday night home alone.

“Fuck this. I’ll just go alone. I can take care of myself and besides maybe I can find a hot villain to call my own.” You proclaim to no one. Anything would be better than this, you think to yourself as you begin getting ready for your night out.

You finish securing your hair in an updo using the mirror before smoothing your short tight dress. You admire the way it hugs your curves just right and how it shows off your legs and cleavage. You check your makeup and wipe the small amount of lipstick from the corner of your mouth. “Ok let’s do this.” You say to yourself as you leave your room. You grab your keys, jacket, and small purse and head out into the pleasant night.

You take the train downtown and get off at the station across the street from the club. The outside entrance is bathed in red and orange lights. Club Inferno written in nice script with carved flames surrounding it. This place looks nice, the rumors about villains frequenting here were probably exaggerated, you think as enter through the large doors. Upon entering you are greeted by a large man. You hand him your ID and after scanning it, he hands it back to you and allows you to enter the club properly.

You look around taking in your surroundings. There’s a large wraparound bar to one side adorned with intricately carved flames and illuminated with an effect that makes them appear to dance like real ones. Similarly the bottles of liquor are backlit by the same dancing flame effect. Across from the bar is a large crowded dancefloor with a DJ station at the end. Lights flash and move as the colors change bathing the dancing masses in their light. Flanking the dancefloor on either side are roped off areas where some people are sitting on comfortable looking couches drinking. Must be the VIP sections, you think, I wonder if there are any villains in there.

So far, you’ve only seen what appears to be normal fun loving club goers enjoying a good time. You frown a bit. I knew the rumors were just exaggerations, you think to yourself. You should feel relieved that you wouldn’t have to worry about any potential danger but instead you just felt a little disappointed.

Maybe you were more of a thrill seeker than you thought. What had you been expecting anyway? Some sexy villain showing up, sweeping you off your feet, and fucking you senseless? Not very realistic. You realized that you were hoping for that though. You shake your head as you decide to do a lap around the club to check people out. As you approach the VIP areas, you try to see who might be in there but the lighting and angle does not allow you to see much.

Little did you know that as you made your way around, you had garnered the attention of a certain someone whose eyes now followed your every movement.

Those eyes watched you walk, admiring the fit of your dress. They watched you dance, observing the sensual way you would move your body to the music. The man whom these eyes belonged to delighted in your every curve and movement. Soon he let his mind wander. How would you move those sexy curves in response to his touch, to his kiss, to his bite? How would you writhe beneath him when he was buried deep inside you? What delightful song would tumble from your lips as he had his way with you? As soon as he saw you take a seat at the bar he knew it was time to make his move. He wanted you and he always got what he wanted, he thought as a devious smirk came to his lips.

You take a seat at the bar to rest and order yourself a drink. You scan the room as you wait for the bartender to come over. Ok so maybe you were there alone and maybe there weren’t any villains like you had originally hoped but you were still having fun and that was what mattered. You laugh to yourself as you turn back towards the bar. It’s probably a good thing that there were no villains there. What would you actually do if one approached you? I wonder. You think as you shake your head.

The bartender comes over to you and places a drink in front of you. You furrow your brow. “I didn’t order anything yet.” You say. “No, but it would appear that you have an admirer. He sent this over.” The bartender tells you. “Wait. Who sent it over?” You ask. The man just gives you a little smile and walks away. You look at the drink and then look around the room trying to figure out who could have sent it to you. Confused but excited at the prospect of an admirer and a free drink, you grab the glass. As you raise it to your lips, an unbidden thought jumps to your mind:

Yurtle's 2021 Writing Projects

COSMIC: Will Byers x Reader - MALE READER + NON BINARY READER VERSIONS -> plot, dialogue, and love interest will remain the same, but I will finally be fulfilling a promise I made after far too long of making two more copies of this series that will allow readers of he/him pronouns to hopefully feel more represented, as well as readers who prefer they/them pronouns. You deserve an escape just as much as anyone else and im truly sorry its taken me this long. These versions are already in development as I type this out. This will include all seasons, and is something I am working out for Scars That Heal, and all my other stories as well.

AN UNFORTUNATE REWRITE: ASOUE x Reader - Love Interest Change -> Previously Klaus Baudelaire x Reader will now be a Violet Baudelaire x Reader. I asked you guys about this a while ago and I was met with a lot of enthusiasm. And honestly I'm getting worried about my lack of enthusiasm for this series and I don't want to give up on it, not when I've barely given the series a try. And truthfully, exploring Violet as an LI intrigues me more than Klaus. And the deciding factor in all this was Klaus Baudelaire has a small handful of x readers available whereas Violet doesn't have any. Not that I've found. I'm very sorry if this upsets you, but this is a decision I've thought a lot about for months actually and I think it will help get me through to the next season which is where Reader's backstory really starts to kick in. Thank you guys for understanding and I'd be more than happy to talk about it with you guys more if you'd like 💞

I AM NOT IN LOVE WITH HER: IANOWT x Reader -> okay. So this one has really been eating at me all year. I wanna write this one SO BAD. but I just... don't have any ideas. So, if you don't mind, I'd love to brainstorm with you guys if any of you have time. I really really want to make it a Syd x Reader or a Dina x Reader. I love both with all my heart. Don't get me wrong, I love Stanley Barber with all I am, but I just. I can't do a rewrite with him. I'm sorry. All I've got so far for ideas is Syd being in love with Dina as it is in the show and Reader being in love with Syd. I'm thinking Reader has a little brother or sister that is Goob's age that is best friends with Goob, and that this is how Syd and Reader know one another but everything I try to go over the plot in my head I can't find a way to bring them together? I really thought I'd get more ideas with even a hint of what they had planned for season 2 but 😤😡 yeah. Now I have to smush it all together and wrap it up in a bow, or at least I feel pressured to. Anyways, what I'm trying to say is, those are my only solid ideas, and I am ALWAYS open to literally whatever ideas you have and more than happy to hear them, whether they're half baked ideas that came to you from some random shit post or some fully fleshed out power point presentation 😂 all my ideas are one or the other anyway, no in between lol. Point is, help is always appreciated as I do NOT want to give up on this beautiful, well crafted story and its wonderful characters 🥰💞

THE STOLEN UMBRELLA: Diego Hargreeves x Reader -> As I've mentioned before, season one has left the planning stage and is now currently ready to be written. All I need to do is finish planning season 2. Currently, I am on episode 3, The Swedish Job. There's not much I can tell you about this series that I haven't already shared but I can say what makes this rewrite an AU [if it wasn't already clear]; Vanya Hargreeves was never lied to and grew up as the seventh Umbrella Academy member. And yet, her siblings have still shut her out leaving them all with the same dynamic from the show... This book will feature my very first OC! I will explain more later, but the "faceclaim" is none other than the talented Ewan McGregor. I am very much excited for you guys to meet G.R.E.G.O.R.Y. 😇

And finally...

[working title] Not What You Expected: Hermione Granger x Fem!Reader -> This was the big one. For me at least. Doing a Harry Potter rewrite is a big commitment but I honestly just snapped when I didn't see any Hermione x Readers. My goal, the whole vibe im gonna shoot for is wholesome 90s wlw [witches loving witches lol I'm sorry I couldn't resist]. Reader would be adopted by Hagrid as an infant and will have been raised on the grounds by Hagrid cause I'm sorry but he's just SUCH A mum DAD. Another little twist? Veela are supposed to be strictly blonde with "moon bright skin" well since id be the author id say FUCK THAT and bend canon and say anyone of any ethnicity can be Veela, cause yall are beautiful in all shapes, sizes and colors 😍 so basically Reader will be half Veela and just casually charm the pants off of everybody with her veela magic ESPECIALLY Hermione 😉😊. Like im sorry can you just imagine Reader all covered in dirt from helping her dad on the grounds and seeing Hermione and Hermione just 😳 *gay gulp* and then reader opening her mouth an then greeting her with the heavy west country accent and oh no Hermione didn't realize how pretty girls were and for heavens sake, surely this girl knew she had a bowtruckle on her shoulder clinging to her ear and wait. She's ALSO memorized all of Hogwarts a History and- oh no... Like, im sorry but I have NO self control and I just have to write this. Bonus, Harry Potter may or may not but definitely will be Reader's Designated Himbo Friend™ and yes this is what I was asking you guys on your input for earlier. I totally understand and respect putting reader in Gryffindor and Slytherin, both are wonderful choices for story paths for reader. But im gonna do my best to bring as much representation to the table as I can and use the most underrepresented house cause everyone deserves to feel represented as much as they possibly can ☺ i sincerely hope you guys are as excited for this as I am, please let me know what you think about this one as I was pretty nervous to share this idea with you guys. [EDIT: I have a title!! MUDBLOODS & HALF-BREEDS !!]

Thank you guys so much for reading, I know I word vomit a lot 😄 I do promise you my current WIPs have not been neglected and I actually have been working on them a fairly equal amount. Scars That Heal has actually been written for a while but needs to be tied up and I need to find a satisfying way to wrap up the chapter. But anyways, I hope you guys are as excited about these announcements as I am and I can't wait to share them with you! Love you all! 🥰

Just finished this art of my OC, Jira! He’s my main OC and sort of serves as my persona in many cases, so I’m super excited to be able to share this drawing. Since this is my first time posting him on this blog, I’m going to talk about his history and share a *bunch* of drawings under the cut (as well as WIP images from this drawing).

Text on his shorts says เสือทอง, or “golden tiger”, and he’s carrying bagged soymilk with tapioca, which is a common way to get soymilk in thailand!

The idea for this drawing is one I’ve had in my head for a few months, but wasn’t sure I’d be able to pull off since I don’t have a lot of practice with perspective shots. I sort of wanted to give him a “casually defiant” look, as well as taking the opportunity to design a fun outfit based around colorful muay thai shorts. Unlike myself, I envision Jira as someone who primarily wears shorts (often with an incongruous top like a long coat), so I love designing his outfits because of the unique balance shorts give.

(^ I like his face in this sketch better than the final, lol…) I’m super happy with how this drawing turned out, especially the coloring and shading. I normally have the instinct to put my shading and highlights on another layer (borne from years of drawing art for petsites…), but I painted all the colors and shading on one layer and I’m really happy with how it turned out. I also added some sort of clip studio filter which gave everything a slight amount of color variance, which looks really cool!

Now, about the character himself: I made this guy back in about 2016 when I was getting back into Animal Crossing for the second time. I needed a secondary character for storage, so I invented Jira (who at the time was named 6480 since that was the username I was starting to switch over to), and gave him a connection to my then-main character (plum/Clove, who I’ll post about later) by way of a sort of flirty friendship. I thought it would be cool if they were like, friends who had houses on opposite sides of the same river and waved to each other and ate breakfast together and held hands and like….. yeah 🥺

Jira is super important to me for a ton of reasons, mostly because he developed as I grew up and the transition I made towards using him as my persona instead of Clove represented a lot of changes in my life and my personality. As he developed and I needed to name him, I decided to make him Thai (he started out inadvertently white cause there was only one skintone in ACNL… cringe), which marked a point in time where I became more invested in my cultural background. When I made him a trans man, it represented that I had become more comfortable and proud of my transness. His personality, which was more casual and open than Clove’s, marked the change in my own personality and growth in confidence. And I was able to explore my own ideals of relationships through the one he had with Clove.

Now, it’s 2020 and my new Animal Crossing game has him as my main character and Clove (as well as a couple others) as my alternate! I’m super glad to be able to look back on this and mark the ways I’ve changed over the years, and it’s really interesting that both of my personas since 2014 have been because of the AC franchise.
